Out of all of the people The Ghost King Phantom expected to relate to, it definitely wasn’t the scrawny red headed photographer of the Daily Planet. Jimmy Olsen has gotten so many temporary superpowers over his time being Superman’s friend. Hell, he once gained a 4th dimensional being’s reality warping abilities when he was given said dimensional being’s powers during a fight. Sure there’s a dozen or so heroes with the same amount of powers he has, but none as suddenly granted to them as a all powerful god that can relate to a teenager.

Even if Trobed isn't romantically canon (and it won't be im 99.9% sure) we can all agree that they've most likely had a conversation between seasons 1-4 where Troy was like "you know, if you were a girl, i would date you" and the only reason i dont include season 5 is because if they had that conversation right before troy left it would be less jokey and more "help me find a reason to stay" and I wouldn't be abls to handle it emotionally. the biggest problem with how people on this site, and in general, talk about abuse is that not only is there the unspoken but heavily implicit sentiment that an 'abuser' is a type of person who abuses rather than a term referring to a person that has engaged in abuse, there's also a tendency toward the dehumanisation of those who belong to this type primarily via appealing to the stigma around personality disorders.

the end result is that people convince themselves that they do not belong to the category of abuser and are thus incapable of engaging in harm or abuse, refuse to acknowledge the fact they are abusive, and anyone who has exhibited abusive behaviour is ostracised on the basis of their belonging to the category of abuser rather than their behaviour. this ostracisation typically comes loaded with some very charged language, too: uncaring and/or manipulative is rendered sociopathic, self-centred becomes narcissistic, and abusive behaviour is viewed as being the product of a diagnosable and intrinsic character fault rather than being rooted in a wider context that normalises or 'justifies' it; he's not misogynistic, he's a psycho—an exception to the rule of sanity and normality. we could never be like them because we don't have something wrong with us.

by refusing to recognise that we are each capable of harm and abuse, that abusive behaviour takes place within a greater societal context, and the fact someone can be abusive without having something 'wrong' with them i don't think there can ever be much in the way of productive conversation concerning abuse. by viewing abuser as being an ontological category only some belong to, victims are led to believe that abuse is only objectionable by virtue of its perpetrators character rather than the act; by viewing a victim as being incapable of harm or abuse you simplify them as an individual, reducing them to their victimhood; by viewing an abuser as only abusing others due to a character fault, you erase the context that allowed them to justify and carry out abuse of another, and exceptionalise their behaviour. have you ever considered that a lack of ability to feel guilt and remorse doesn't imply an inability to do good, much the same as having an abundance of empathy doesn't grant you the ability to navigate every conflict without hurting others?

you shouldn't be convinced of your harmlessness, especially if it's on the basis that you are not one of those people. you can abuse others too.

The belief of "if you like [insert ship] then you dont understand the characters" is baffling to me.

Because that's not what shipping is about.

I don't want to see these characters making out on screen, I don't want them to be made canon, I have no interest in the main story being changed just for a relationship to work. What I DO want to see is the what-if scenarios of how these people would end up together.

That's what shipping is, the what-ifs, the possibilities, the understanding that of course this is never gonna happen but what would it take for them to cross the line? What needs to happen to make him say that, y'know?

You can understand a character perfectly, can know them more than you're own brain and have never once strayed from their canon and still find the possible dynamic of them and a character interesting.

You can still imagine scenarios of 'what if he said this instead?' 'what if this went differently?' 'what would it take for them to mesh just right?' and you can do it ENTIRELY in character.

People explore ships and enjoy ships because they are a way to mess with different dynamics and ideas, not because it's what they want to see on screen, and not because they think it makes complete or perfect sense. They simply find the dynamic and 'what if they kissed' ideas enticing. That's all it is.

Fandom is for having fun, it's for relaxing and playing with digital dolls and writing fanfiction about if the dolls had trauma, and this weird elitism of 'well you don't get them like I do so therefore YOUR interpretation is wrong' is just. . . mean?

Trust me, I get not liking certain ships or HCs, I do that all the time but I also know that I don't live in that person's head. I don't know the dynamic they see, doesn't matter if they're 'in-character' or not. There are plenty of ships I have seen and haven't liked at first but then after seeing a person's AU or fic, I change my mind based on that interpretation.

Making the claim that 'you don't really understand these characters or the story' based on someone having fun with the source material is so strange to me. Not everything has to be serious 100% of the time. People will see things differently than you, and saying that they're 'fake fans' or 'don't get it' because of that feels so silly to me.

No one is lesser of a fan because they ship something.

I am so sorry for such a long post, I am just very passionate about this subject.

TLDR; people are still on their 'real fans vs fake fans' trip and I'm tired of it.

UGH just thinking abt Kaz having a son named Jordan

Kaz being thrust into touching skin once again because he has to; of course he tries to use the lace gloves he’d used in his early twenties with Inej when they were both still untouchable but sometimes they’re not reachable; Kaz having to confront any lingering trauma upfront because he has a son now dammit, he’s not going to let his past keep him from this; Inej waking up from a nap one day to see Kaz gently holding Jordan’s little hand, breathing carefully as the baby sleeps, touching every inch of skin possible to memorize how it feels, how alive it feels; Kaz using a little water bowl to dip his fingers in so he can touch his son with wet hands, working his way up to gently giving the baby a cloth bath so that he never accidentally grabs at him with a wet hand and goes comatose
