oooHHHHHH okay wait. Petra as a cast-away spy/captive still loyal to her Queen but sort of banished, like she was pre-House of Wolves in the Tower. And Variks as a, heh, 'loyal' scribe to... I guess Skolas? But he's Variks, so he's shifty and has his own agenda, and I have this really clear image in my head of Petra in some boiler room under rusted pipes and Variks being her warden/overseer. I suppose the timeline would be the Reef Wars, Skolas wanting to use Petra's knowledge against the Awoken, but she ends up plotting with Variks how to betray him because Variks himself isn't very pleased with Skolas and you know, would love to see him twice docked and cast through an airlock. Nem stop giving me ideas for multi-chaptered fics!!!!!!

so we’re playing in Adventures in Middle Earth, which is. supposedly a Tolkienverse-specific 5e mod but frankly it’s robust enough to fully count as its own system if you ask me. like it has its own guidebooks, character sheets, premade adventures, and features mechanics that 5e just straight up doesn’t have. it’s like if 5e were actually good. anyway. may i present to you:

so what, exactly, happened in the intervening years between the events of the Hobbit and LOTR? we did, BAYBEEEEEE!!

we are:

Murdoc, a hobbitish warden (adventures in middle earth’s version of a bard), played by yours truly!! raised in the shire and eventually moved out to the middle of mirkwood by an eccentric uncle who idolizes bilbo baggins, murdoc is the heir apparent to the brandybuck family inn. unfortunately for murdoc, he has developed extremely nasty prophetic dreams and is now burdened with the ability to see the future! a skill that has definitely left him with a very normal relationship to his new day job of Being An Adventurer!! i am unhinged and have uh. Talked About Him A LOT If You Care To Read This, but he is full of murderous rage and also tea and loves his friends very much. he also, more recently, surrendered himself as bait to the great werewolf plaguing mirkwood, trusting completely that his friends would come and save him. he was right. they did. and he lost his right hand in the process. :)

Ríros, an elven warrior (aime version of a fighter), played by @jaz-the-bard. tall, buff, sunshiny, and an absolute himbo. ALSO loves his friends VERY much and this is KEY. unfortunately for ríros, he is a redhead, and that does cause problems in a world where maedhros feänorion once existed. (stranger, i am so sorry if you are not one of my silmarillion regulars and did not know what you were getting into by asking me, a silmarillion blog, to tell you about my d&d campaign, and now have no idea who or what the fuck i am talking about). ríros is notably not maedhros though! he isn't even noldorin!! maedhros is a ghost who lives in his sword (and who is also played by jaz)! and who also maybe kind of accidentally possessed him one time, if you wanna read this here for a better explanation of ríros mostly but also all of the above.

The Bearer, a human slayer (aime barbarian), played by @thymo-leonta. grumpy old man. unwilling father to all these young and stupid adventurers he’s been stuck with. are they all adults? yeah sure. they’re still Children. we are making him go grey. also full of murderous rage. looks like he's running from his perfectly normal, happy, loving family. is actually acutely aware of the fact that he has been doomed to die. killed the werewolf that took murdoc's hand. as a consequence, became the werewolf that took murdoc's hand. has two dogs, both named Dog <3

Déorwyn, a human wanderer (aime ranger), played by @shadowkat2000. resident party Horse Girl. a fellow sufferer of The Bad Prophetic Dreams^TM. because this is not quite unfortunate enough for her, déorwyn Hears Dead People. apparently our GM gives her extra secret bonus ghosts that the rest of us do not hear or know about! this being the source of her foresight makes her pretty distinct from murdoc, despite them both seemingly suffering from the same thing, in ways that i have LOTS of emotions about. her horse is named windrider and Their Bond Is Unbreakable uwu

That's actually my worst nightmare, no cap. I wanna see them getting together in excruciating detail. If the show just skips ahead to them together, I would be seriously annoyed. You can't have the slowburn potential the 2 of them have and not give us a payoff that's worth the build up. They have the potential to be THE slowburn romance of television and if they go there, they need to do it right. We've been waiting for too long for them to just go "and then they kissed".

OH ALSO as a fun little side project. ive been making a big google doc full of different artistic techniques by tearing apart clip studio paint’s settings to find niche opportunities and going on an odyssey through Youtube Search “Art Tutorial/Coloring Tutorial/How to Draw People/How to Draw Hair/How t”

It’s a passion project of mine, to make a collection of different methods of drawing because I realize a big plateau for artists is when they keep thinking “what do I want to draw” instead of “how do i want to draw.” 

Honestly, it’s been pretty interesting so far! A couple tips that I’ve learned so far:

For watercolor (in clip studio paint), don’t rely on the brush’s watercolor edge. Seriously, you’ll get the edge every single time you make a brush stroke. INSTEAD go to layer settings -> border -> watercolor border so you can make a block of watercolor color and then adjust the border from there. You get much more control and can adjust blurriness, opacity, darkness, etc.

Holographic textures. I’m still looking into different ways of doing this, but gradient maps seem to be very popular. For those who dont know, gradient maps take a set greyscale tone and assign it a color (this color’s tone does not need to be equal to the grey tone).

Actually, on the topic of gradient maps. I only learned a few months ago that people color greyscale paintings using gradient maps, and that’s one of the methods used to make it not look god awfully muddy.

So I found this tutorial on Youtube about someone who shades by progressively making the shading change to a contrasting color and I. Am fascinated by that. Will get back to yall when I experiment with that. COLOR JITTER. there are so many possibilities with this one. One thing I was doing back around artfight was selecting areas of light and using a HEAVILY color jittered brush to color it in. Then, select the shaded areas and do the same. Afterwards, I’d turn off the color jitter and just start rendering using whatever color I wanted. Usually, indigo/blue/purple colors would be used moreso for the darkest spots because they have a darker tone by default, and yellow/pink would be used for the lightest colors.

Because I’ve talked about color tone a few times, I feel like I need to include this Youtube tutorial, “HOW TO HYPERPOP (draw with saturated colors)”: https://youtu.be/NKV2VWWleBk It’s what originally inspired me to make this google doc, and absolutely exploits the tone-color relationship do make some REAL interesting art. It’s fairly popular on tumblr but i don’t care it’s a very rad tutorial by @ratpunksdraw (found here https://www.tumblr.com/ratpunksdraw/689762046030577664/tutorial-under-cut-paper-textures-brushes?source=share ) which details how they make a quick frankly very good looking paper texture on their artwork + has image resources and i’ve tried this before for an artfight attack and it was fun as hell and not hard at all i would recommend this
