So this is a really difficult question for me to ask because I have a lot of shame around it, but I wanted to know if you (or your followers) had advice or resources for a woman trying to unlearn kink. I've had a preoccupation with a certain disciplinary act ever since suffering through child abuse in a fundamentalist home. When I was a young woman I was in an abusive disciplinary relationship and people in the community always condemn that, but it gets so confusing when I also see them fetishizing relationships that look just like it. It's hard to make sense of because sometimes the dynamic seems harmless and even helpful, but also it doesn't seem healthy to want to be punished even if said punishment is not that bad. Like, that is kind of a form of self harm, isn't it? I am sorry. This is so uncomfortable, but I can't talk to anyone in the kink community, and a lot of the feminist angles are about men choosing to harm women, but that doesn't help me because I don't usually engage with men, and it's not like hardcore BDSM with sex involved. (To be clear, there's never sex.) Jillian Keenan is a really prominent voice in this specific community and always calls out abuse, but she still takes the choice feminism angle of empowerment is what makes you feel good. I am questioning everything about my preferences and wondering if I've never dealt with the abuse properly. Your relationship to your sexuality is something that’s unique and so many factors are at play: the individual’s sexual history, motivations, mindset, lingering feelings. The act you’re referring to might be harmless to some people, but if it specifically stems from abuse, and feeds on shame and trauma, then there is a problem.

A big reason why radical feminists critique kink is that pain is a big factor in what makes kink, kink. And looking at the patterns shows that women are the primary receivers of pain in bdsm communities, by an overwhelming majority. We can also look at csa statistics and see that women are an overwhelming majority as well, more than 80% of victims being female. Going through any form of abuse while you are developing makes it hard to separate pain and pleasure… but it’s imperative to your healing journey to do so, in my opinion.

Recovery from a traumatic event has a goal, which is to move on and heal. It can’t be left in the past and fade away if it’s continuously brought up again and again in the bedroom. Retriggering yourself is still retriggering yourself, even for the purpose of pleasure. I also personally don’t think it’s a good idea to pit your libido against your recovery: if you reinforce that attaining a sexual climax relying on retriggering past abuse and mixing pain and pleasure, then it’s doing so many things. It’s placing your climax on one side and moving on and healing on the other, and the animal part of your brain will always choose the climax. What makes kink, kink, is both the pain and pleasure being present. So if sex isn’t involved in your situation, I’m thinking there must be some form of pleasure still, so a form of sexuality at least is present.

Sexuality relying on pain and self harm also enshrouds the unhealthy behavior with this air of taboo, which makes it even more difficult to let go of. Kind of like fast food, indulging in unhealthy sexual behaviors starts to feel like how a junk food cheat day seems to taste better than a regular, home cooked meal. It’s not better for you, and often doesn’t even taste better, but knowing how bad it is compensates that. That’s why so many food addicts find it hard to not quit fad diets… the more restrictions, the more your psychology makes it tantalizing.

So that’s why I think continuing is harmful, but just telling yourself no isn’t the way to go. But rather redirecting yourself, trying new things, talking about it, introspection free from shame… all of these helps cultivate and grow a healthier relationship to your sexuality. Instead of restricting bad behaviors, trying out new things and having your sexuality grow in a different direction is a better move. I used to not be able to enjoy sex, for example, without drinking alcohol. Instead of cutting myself off, I worked with myself and analyzed where my behaviors came from, while slowly trying out things that weren’t so overwhelming that made me run grab a drink first. It’s a process, developing a healthy sexuality and learning what you personally prefer and enjoy… but just being honest with yourself, and exercising love and acceptance of yourself is already a huge step in progressing forward. ❤️

anyway so. obesity. is bad. it is bad for your health. if you are obese, you are not healthy. that said, i am not going to tell you to lose weight. no one should tell you to lose weight except for your doctor and maybe your immediate family, and that should be from a place of “you are not living your best life and i care about you.” i, an internet stranger, along with pretty much everyone you know, does not get to tell you about how terrible your life is and what a horrible person you are for existing, because you are not a bad person for being overweight. you do not deserve discrimination or mistreatment. even if you’re not actively trying to lose weight. it doesn’t matter. you are a human being like any other and i will fight like hell for you.

i’m not planning on going heavy into eating disorders because a) that’s a triggering topic for me and b) it’s going to muddle the point i’m getting, but since it is a large part of the arguments re. haes, it’s certainly going to come up, so i’d like to list the officially recognized eating disorders.

Anorexia Nervosa (AN)

Bulimia Nervosa (BN)

Binge Eating Disorder (BED)

Other Specified Feeding and Eating Disorder (OSFED)

Pica

Rumination Disorder

Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID)

Other (aka “we are considering making this its own category but for matthew’s purposes it fits into AFRID or UFED well enough because the details aren’t important”)

so yeah. we’ll circle back to this.

section one: haes

haes initially stood for heatlh at every size. that doesn’t really matter anymore because people say healthy at every size now, however, the distinction is important. because.

okay. when i say being obese makes you inherently unhealthy, i am not saying you are having health problems for being overweight. i am saying you have a chronic illness. i have asthma. that makes me inherently unhealthy. i don’t necessarily have an health problems because i am asthmatic, but i have a chronic illness and it certainly would, say, make me more likely to die from covid. that is a fact. saying healthy at every lung functionality would not change that.

but you know, i can still be active and like smell plants and interact in the world like anyone else. i just try to keep my inhaler near by.

so similarly, if you are overweight/obese (i’ve been saying only obese because its less letters so i’m sticking with that), you can, like, live ur best life and take care of your health. you can feel good about your body and eat good food and move and again, i really don’t want anyone reading this to feel that i think everyone who’s obese needs to lose that weight because adults can do whatever they want.

what i’m angry about is that a good thing (encouraging people to make good choices no matter what so they can feel good in their bodies) got turned into a bad thing (telling people they don’t need to change what they’re doing because they’re perfectly healthy).

section two: but what about...?

see my third disclaimer. but as a fast rundown of things i probably won’t talk about in detail later:

the obesity paradox is a specific thing about a specific type of illness in the elderly. it’s also not about obesity, it’s about being slightly overweight. it’s a complicated thing, but it’s not true most of the time

sumo wrestlers have major health problems as soon as they stop exercising like crazy.

did you know there are countries where girls are force fed to become overweight? diet culture goes both ways

if you want to say healthy at every size, you have to mean that every. that means you are not allowed to say shit about underweight people. i’m sorry, is someone you care about wasting away? are they 5′10 and weigh  90 pounds and their hair is falling out because they aren’t eating? i’m sorry, you said people are healthy at every size. you can’t make fun of skinny people. you have to suck it up because you can’t have your cake and eat it too.

section three: self care

a hypothetical that is blindingly obvious to where i’m going: if a small child wants to play with a knife, are you caring for them by giving into it? what if they want to drink some vodka? what if they want to run away from home to live with a stranger in a white van?

i really really hope all those answers are “no, you’re neglecting that child, and also possibly actively harming it.”

so my point is pretty obvious: giving yourself something because you want it does not mean you are caring for yourself.

you know what i want  to do all the time? sleep and rewatch twilight every day. but that makes me feel worse. so even though it’s terrible and i hate it, i have to take care of myself (because there is only one of me that i ever get) and go outside and talk to people and eat something that isn’t popcorn because you need protein to live.

(sorry i tried to keep nutrition out of that but i have to actively seek out sufficient salt and protein due to my campus doing a lot of low sodium food, which is bad when u actually need to eat a good amount of salt to keep ur body working, and also i’m vegetarian. so i’m constantly making myself seek it out.)

that doesn’t mean self care is always supposed to be work, but i mean. i’ve always not really gotten into it. i think because i’m hella depressed and i’ve been depressed long enough i can recognize it as this separate entity when it comes to a lot of the mental stuff. like, why do i feel like everything is meaningless? that’s just the depression.

but i digress, this isn’t about me. [proceeds to talk about me again]

one phrase i like a lot for myself is “bad food makes me feel bad.” now, i’m not a fan of putting moral judgements to food. but this works for me, personally. sure, eating a bunch of ice cream right now is good, but it’s going to suck when my stomach flips the fuck out because of all the sugar. and so it seems quite obvious to me that eating that ice cream is not, in fact, caring for my body.

and i think we’d collectively be a bit better served if we could learn to distinguish between self-care and self-kindness. ask anyone who does caregiving (childcare, nurses, etc): it is hard, often thankless (at least for children they’re devils who don’t realize that their toys will get wrecked if they don’t pick them up) work. you care for them not by doing what they want, but what is best for them.

section four: diet culture

as i’ve already played my hand up above with underweight vs haes, i think it’s kind of obvious that i have strong feelings about underweight not being healthy also. so i just want to take stock of what is and isn’t diet culture, and what i think about it. this is probably the most subjective part of this essay.

things i think are diet culture

people trying ridiculous diets. obviously diet culture in the purest sense. it’s real dumb. you need all the food groups to live. sometimes it’s okay, like cutting out sugar, but i’d say its a net negative

not trying to do lifestyle changes. that’s the sustainable way to lose weight. so. yeah.

weight cycling. actually still up for debate if this is bad. this paper says no, along with a lot of others, but i’m not sitting down and reading through all of them, and all of the ones that say its bad, to offer my opinion. i’m leaning towards “it’s better than nothing,” but we’ll see

a lot of other stuff i’m doing this off the top of my head and trying to avoid issues w eating disorders so.

things i think aren’t diet culture

women being pressured to look a certain way. that’s been going on for a long time. being skinny used to be bad. it’s a fact of the patriarchy.

most things? idk i have this impression that like, anyone exercising or eating healthy is a part of diet culture, when in reality, people just have different lifestyles. (also, again, if you’re going with haes, as in HealthyAES (hyaes?) you can’t call it unhealthy or you’re not respecting that damn E)

in conclusion: diet culture has issues, but the correct response to them is not “fuck you, i’m eating fourteen pounds of sugar.” eat fourteen pounds of sugar because you want to. (also it should be fat because if you really want to stick it to the man you should be eating fat, big sugar is responsible for a huge amount of todays dietary problems, both on the under/overweight side)

section five: discrimination

yeah no fuck people who discriminate about fat people. that’s all i’m just moving along to a transition since i was drifting away from my point about health.

section six: weight stigma

...is not responsible for your health issues. being obese is. accept the consequences of your lifestyle.

well. okay. that’s a little unfair. accept the consequences of not treating your chronic illness. and i feel i’ve probably lost people for calling obesity an illness but that’s the whole point of my post.

just like carrying externally heavy objects hurts your joints, so does carrying a lot of weight inside. fat does not cushion your organs, it kills them. getting rid of weight stigma will not make these issues go away.

the treatment for obesity is eating the number of calories you need to sustain a healthy weight at your current exercise levels. (*please consult with your doctor this is more complicated when you have to lose a lot of weight.)

section seven: cico. or, why your metabolism is fine

your body does not break the laws of thermodynamics. it cannot magically create more energy out of a given amount of calories.

there are issues with calorie counting, yes. i think it’s usually done in an unsustainable way that isn’t teaching people to make decisions, just to do math. it can be hard to get an accurate count.

but you are not a miracle of science. you have not discovered how to create and destroy energy. i’m sorry to be the one to break if to you.

if you don’t believe me, if you’re really sure your metabolism is different, go on and get it tested. tell your doctors. because it’s a major problem if it’s not working right.

similarly, i’m sorry, but if someone is the same height as you and a (very, like, +- 50 pounds) different weight, and neither of you have exisitng health conditions, you are not eating the same things/doing the same exercise. you have not broken the laws of physics.

possibly, one of you have untreated celiacs or something of the ilk meaning your body is actually malfunctioning. but if that’s true, i excluded you already, so shoo. get out of here and play in the sun with the other kids.

if you don’t believe this, there’s not much i can do to convince you. but i encourage you to count your calories for a month. find some tdee calculators. weigh yourself. make sure you count everything, it all goes down. check the math. (you can do any amount of time but a month is what you need for weight to be meaningful imo otherwise you’re just proving weight fluctuates a lot).

section eight: cico. or, why counting calories is not disordered eating

it can sure be a symptom of disordered eating, and it can certainly make disordered eating worse, but it isn’t an eating disorder.

also, assuming you’re not trying to verify the laws of thermodynamics, i don’t think counting every calorie is necessary. i have approximate values (500/meal, and around 300 in snacks), which i try not to go over or under.

yeah. i actually use calorie counting to make sure i’m eating enough in one sitting. some of my medication screws with my apetite and then i only eat like 300 calories and suddenly its like 11 and i need to go to bed but i’m hungry but eating before bed makes me feel terrible and it sucks.

but hey, according to some people, avoiding that is unhealthy.

okay i’m moving on before i get salty because the next section is touchy

section nine: eating disorders.

the three main eating disorders are listed way up there. they’re the first three. AN, BN, BED.

oh, yeah, binge eating? that’s actually disordered eating too. it’s not normal.

i’m not going to elaborate on the point because i absolutely know i can’t do it without getting really fucking angry that people call calorie counting disordered eating, like i haven’t watched a fifth grader eat one meal a day because she’s scared she’s overweight. like i haven’t watched a sixth grader cram food into his mouth until he’s sick because he’s worried he’s not bulky enough for sports. like i haven’t watched an eleventh grader tell me he hasn’t eaten anything since lunch yesterday, but it’s fine, he doesn’t want his mac and cheese anyway, since he needs to lose weight.

you think someone keeping track of some numbers is an eating disorder? then either you’re lucky enough to never have to deal with eating disorders on a personal level, and i’m very happy for you, or you have, and you should maybe reevaluate that.

alright i’m cutting myself off now whoop.

section ten: intuitive eating

you know, much like haes, i want to like this. it fits in with my bad-food-makes-me-feel-bad mentality. i’m angry and tired and hungry because i ate like, a late breakfast/early lunch and now i need to eat again because if i don’t eat every six to eight hours i have a medical condition that makes me feel like shit (an aside: unless you’ve been told by a doctor, you don’t need to eat every 2-3 hours. unless you’re a child or have an applicable medical condition, you can probably eat one meal a day and be firne.)

but much like haes, it now has a meaning i can’t in good consience endorse. i can’t stand for a movement that tells people who acknowledge weight makes their joints hurt that they just need to keep eating until they feel better.

section eleven: conclusion

i have a lot more thoughts but again i’m hungry. i meant to talk more about IE and my problems with it but maybe that will be its own post.

i won’t say i’m happy to talk about this because i can’t promise i am (see: eating disorder issues.), but i will most likely respond to constructive discussion if someone sees this and wants to. i can also provide sources. i hate going, “sources available on request” but i tried to provide some stuff for some of the heavily disputed/i already had a source for it and didn’t have to dig through google scholar to find information that’s been peer reviewed.

and i do sincerely wish everyone, at any size, that they fracture the disconnect between them and their bodies (oop didn’t talk about that either another time then) & that they find peace with who they are, and that they get to live happy & fulfilling lives.

I saw it when I was lurking earlier ! I think it's an interesting discussion. - I'll put it under a cut for length.

I like Sniff. Don't watch them very often (I say that only as a disclaimer), but generally have had positive opinions and interactions with them from my place on the internet. I don't really like the backbone jokes people make about them either - in the sense that not every amendment is indicative of a weak will. I think as long as their decision to double back/apologize/whatever is truly them, they should be allowed to without it being portrayed as "giving in." I know that we give mcyttwt a lot of shit - I do it more than most in some aspects - but it's not good to have the mentality that they're always wrong (even if it is a sort of boy-who-cried-wolf situation).

I also relate to them. I kept drafting apologies yesterday because I felt like I'd said something wrong - in their conversation with Jawsh I can't confidently say I wouldn't have done the same thing and I definitely have under different circumstances. I feel for Sniff there.

That being said, a couple things about their comment stood out to me:

That makes sense. It's what I've been saying about mcyttwt for months now - there are very few people seriously at fault for the situation and a great many who perpetuate the cycle on accident and end up feeding off of each other. Another thread, cancelled creator, neg trend. They all want to be a part of it because it's what's in front of them and the positive reinforcement they receive validates them and keeps them going.

I just don't understand what "reinforcement" they're referring to here. Like, I do, they're talking about the backbone jokes, but that's such a small subset of what's going on and it's far from the culture they appear to be immersed in (unless I'm misreading the situation). I don't think anyone should be cruel and if those jokes are hurtful then they're not very good jokes and people should stop, but I don't get the correlation between negative feedback and inability to escape.

The performative activism, the blatant misogyny and people's disregard for it. The actual, no-joke hate mobs that I hate because they make all of us look so fucking shitty, but exist anyway. I don't want to compromise with that and I'm - frankly - not going to. I'm not gonna find a middle-ground with someone who put Eret on their DNI because they're not okay with questions being asked about issues in the queer community. When someone tells me that mistakes aren't to be forgiven - that no one is allowed to grow and change with a straight fucking face - I'm gonna fight them on that with everything because that mindset is a problem. And I know I probably sound exaggerated but I promise that these come from real people I've seen and spoken to; actual events that have gone on.

TLDR: I'm sorry that Sniff's dealt with that kind of backlash for her actions and I hope people are kinder going forward. I do however feel like she's quite deeply immersed in Twitter culture and caught in the push-and-pull between stans. I know that it comes from a place of kindness - wanting to help marginalized communities is extremely commendable - but sometimes, especially on Twitter, they're lying to you. They don't want your help, they just want to drag you around.

That's just my perspective and I could be entirely wrong. I don't mean to judge her decisions as they are obviously hers to make.

Originally, Taehyung had bought you per his father’s request to keep pests such as mice away from the house and the barn. However, you proved to be a less than effective method- your feline instincts didn’t seem to translate, and you preferred staying away from the rodents. Taehyung didn’t seem to mind.

Early mornings were usually filled with a nice breakfast while watching the rising sun accompanied with scampering behind Taehyung as he went on his way to feed the various animals.

Your favorites had always been the cows, enjoying how their big eyes would look at you innocently. Often, you would sneak in extra snacks for the spotted animals, trying to act inconspicuous even though Taehyung knew what you were doing.

Taehyung pouted at that, assuming that you’d spent much longer sleeping than you usually did. You’d never exhibited such behavior, and he made a mental note to call the vet when you were eating your lunch.

“That’s okay, kitty. Let’s go feed those hungry animals.” He said, ready to get a start on his day. You smiled at the proposition, happy to see all of the animals you were affectionate towards.

“She might not feel like it, but she’s perfectly okay. I’d expect her to give birth to her babies within the next week or so.” His words caused you to perk up in interest, hopping over to him and the cow and kneeling down next to him, hovering over the cow’s body. Your eyes sparkled with amazement, petting the cow’s belly.

“Can I stay here with her?” You asked, and Taehyung couldn’t find a reason to argue. He loved seeing you take interest in anything he loved, and he taught you how to make sure animals were comfortable to avoid any harmful interactions, so he saw no reason to deny your request.

“Sure, sweetheart. I’m going to go feed the chickens and get started on lunch, just make sure you’re back in time to eat.” Taehyung told you and you nodded excitedly. For the remainder of your time outside, you sat next to the cow, cooing at the large animal and patting her tummy in comforting circles.

“Did you have fun with the mama?” Taehyung asked as you made your way inside the farm house as you nodded in agreement. 

“It was super fun!” You said cheerfully, thanking him as he handed you a plate of food on your way to the small dining table. It was next to a patio, the sun shining through the glass and illuminating everything beautifully. Taehyung took his usual spot right across from you, smiling thoughtfully.

“What’s got you so interested in her?” Taehyung asked curiously. Due to living on a farm his entire life, things like animals giving birth was a walk in the park. It always made him happy, but he’d long since grown used to such occasions.

You seemed to grow flustered at his question, shaking your head. “I-it’s just cool, you know?” You improvised, Taehyung’s sly smile telling you he didn’t believe your words. However, he let it be, opting to introduce a new topic of conversation.

You woke up the next morning feeling even worse than the day before. You’d politely denied Taehyung when he asked you if you’d wanted to come down for breakfast for a second day in a row, feeling your heart break a bit when you heard him dejectedly respond.

“It’s feeding time, kitty.” Taehyung had come into your room instead of yelling from downstairs, partly out of concern and party out of desire to see your face. Being left alone to your own thoughts, you thought back to the cow and Taehyung. You liked Taehyung.

Before Taehyung, you lived your life in a shelter. A shelter with nice food and people, but a shelter nonetheless. You’d always hoped that whenever you got adopted, you would like your owner. But now, as you sat in your bed, you wondered if you liked Taehyung more than hybrids were supposed to like their owners.

I did this for The Umbrella Academy, so it was about time that I did this for Sanders Sides.

Logan - ESTJ

I know you’re probably confused. I mean, he’s literally the embodiment of logic, how could he not be xNTx? Well, it all goes down to cognitive functions. 

Logan is quite obviously a Te dominant. I can understand Ti, but I believe that his thinking function leans more to the extroverted side (lol, get it? Side?). 

I’ll copy and paste something I found about Te that I found on the MBTI subreddit that was posted by u/GodSteph:

“Te users believe in facts, data, and information they gather from Outside sources. They believe in survey results, in graphs, numbers that represent people's decisions and ideas. They feed their mind with information validated outside of their heads. For them, if results of different surveys or information seem accurate to lots of people, these results are accurate too. They don't stop and internally process if the information seems reasonable inside their heads. They dont validate it internally. They just accept it.”

Seems like Logan, right?

Now, you’re probably wondering why auxiliary Si rather than Ni.

Dominant and auxiliary Si users (xSxJ) are suckers for the rules. They don’t really think much about questions, theories, and things like that. That also makes sense for Logan. Every time he gets into an argument with Roman, it’s always about Rules vs. Innovation. Sure, Logan does veer off from your typical sensor when he references famous philosophers, but that’s probably because of his well-developed tertiary Ne.

So, yeah. Logan is an ESTJ.

Patton - ESFJ

Patton definitely leads with Fe. Fe focuses on the emotions around them and people who use it tend to be good at recognising the emotions of the people around them. Unhealthy Fe can be used to manipulate others and/or cause the person to care about what others think about them too much.

Patton has been shown to use healthy Fe by making sure that everyone else is happy and taking care of their needs like the dad he is. But unhealthy Fe does show up every now and then.

Unsympathetic!Patton is a classic example of using Fe to manipulate others. I won’t go into it too much because I know people aren’t really comfortable with thinking about Patton like that.

Unhealthy Fe that keeps seeking approval from others shows up every now and then as well. He feels like he needs to keep up the act of being happy all the time so the other Sides don’t worry about him. So yeah, Fe dominant for Patton.

Now, what about auxiliary Si? Well, like I said, Si users are suckers for the rules. Patton never wants to step out of line and is desperate to always stay morally right. Si users also tend to be very nostalgic, I’m pretty sure, and I don’t even have to explain that if you’ve seen the Moving On episodes.

So, yeah. Patton is an ESFJ.

Roman - ENFP

Do I even need to explain dominant Ne? Ne is literally the cognitive function that describes Roman.

I can see why someone might type Roman as an ENTP stuck in a Ne-Fe loop, but I think he uses Fi, not Fe. Fi is one of the hardest functions to explain, so this might be a little tricky. Fi has a lot to do with strong beliefs and morals. Fi also has a lot to do with authenticity, which is something that matters a lot to Roman since he’s always pushing himself to be completely original, and well, authentic.

So, yeah. Roman is an ENFP.

Virgil - INTP

Virgil is stuck in a Ti-Si loop.

“The Ti-Si loop traps the INTP in their introverted functions and causes them to neglect their extraverted functions. Instead of looking at possibilities and thinking of the future, the INTP becomes very caught up in analyzing the past for answers using Ti (Introverted Thinking) and Si (Introverted Sensing). The last bit really applies to Virgil. Roman and Logan have both slipped up and nearly pointed out that Virgil is paranoid. Also, “If someone exhibits behaviors similar to another person the INTP once knew, they will often judge them based on this.” really reminds me of the theory that Virgil was mistrusting of Roman before because he reminded Virge about Remus too much.

Deceit - INTJ

I AM SO SICK OF PEOPLE SAYING THAT DECEIT IS AN ENTJ. HE’S NOT. EVEN IF WE’RE TYPING BY DICHOTOMIES, HE’S AN INTJ.

First, my weakest point: if we’re typing by dichotomies, he’s an introvert. He looks down on social engagements (”Well, the bar for skipping an important occasion should be higher than a...social engagement.”), already indicating that he’s an introvert. Also, he absolutely loses it when he’s around others for too long. Look at how Deceit behaves near the end of SvS. He’s absolutely done with the others.

Next, my second weakest and second strongest point which will be copied and pasted from a point I made on Personality Database:

“An ENTJ would enlist the help of the people around him to reach their goals. Deceit does that with going to Remus in DWIT, but it's in a last-ditch effort to get Thomas to understand that Deceit is not trying to harm him. Originally, Deceit planned on solving his problem independently, just like an INTJ would. The only reason he got Remus to help him was that there were no other options. If there were, I can guarantee that Deceit would leave the other Dark Sides out of all of this.”

Finally, my last and strongest argument. He leads with Ni, not Te. His Ni is SO HECKING APPARENT, HOW COULD YOU NOT SEE IT? In all of the episodes where he made an important appearance (that one point in Why Do We Get Out of Bed in the Morning and the end-card for The Nightmare Instead of Christmas don’t count), he referenced numerous philosophers like Kant, Sterner, and Plato.

He’s also very vision-oriented rather than goal-oriented, which is more INTJ rather than ENTJ.

Besides, Deceit’s entire character’s vibe screams “wE lIvE iN a sOcIeTy”, and I can’t think of anything more INTJ than that.

So, yeah. Deceit is an INTJ.

Remus - ENTP

Just like his brother, Remus is obviously an Ne user. Some people think he leads with Se and I just don’t see it. Se users are in touch with reality and that’s just not Remus. His mind is always somewhere else, thinking about kidnapping a goose and waterboarding it until it honks out the truth about the Illuminati, then planning on roasting the goose to death and force-feeding it’s body to Roman who’s begging his brother for freedom (not based off of a true story).

So, why Ti rather than Fi? Well, if you stop and think for a moment, Remus is actually kind of smart. He’s constantly throwing around random facts (”Did you know that dork means whale *redacted*?”, *insert some forbidden knowledge about Jeffery Dahmer here*, *some stuff that he knows about religion for some reason*) which is peak Ti user behaviour. 

Remus also fits into a lot of ENTP stereotypes. His humour is either a) dirty, or b) dark. He loves mental sparring, or at least messing with other people’s heads. He’s extremely blunt and is not afraid to express his opinions on topics (”Have you forgotten about the part where I’m your creativity? Obviously I have opinions on the matter.”)

I can also see him being stuck in an Ne-Fe loop. I’m pretty sure that it was confirmed in a livestream that the only thing Remus wants is attention, which seems a lot like unhealthy Fe like I mentioned in Patton’s section. He also shows a lot of similarities with another ENTP character who’s stuck in a loop, Klaus Hargreeves.

So, yeah. Remus is an ENTP.

drafted an fb post abt transmisogyny, partly prompted by jk rowling being more blatant about it (so sick of seeing ppl advocating transmisogynistic politics oh my god... at least w/ nina paley i found out abt this before getting to her films on my watch list). anyway. it’s not the first time i’ve talked abt transmisogyny on fb, but this post would definitely talk abt it at more length compared to previous ones.

in case any trans women / transfems would like to look at it & let me know if u think there’s something in there that’s unhelpful or would be better written differently, or if there’s sth u think would be good to add, the draft is beneath the cut. (will probably post it at some point later today.)

When people appeal to “[cisgender and/or transmisogyny-exempt] women’s safety” while, explicitly or implicitly, positioning trans women’s presence (e.g. in women’s shelters, restrooms, etc.) as something threatening... they might as well be claiming that we need to protect rich women from poor women. This would be no more divorced from actual power dynamics. (Certainly, trans women as a demographic experience significantly more risk around poverty when compared to cis women, due to factors of employment discrimination, familial abuse or ejection, etc.)

When someone who’s doing this is a feminist, they might as well be insisting that feminism desperately needs to center the needs of rich women. Of course, there is a long, unfortunate history of feminists prioritizing the needs of comparatively well-off women while harming women who face increased oppression along lines of race, class, etc. But due to differences with regard to how transmisogyny is reproduced and legitimized by cissexist language use, you’re far less likely to see self-identified feminists explicitly saying “listen to rich women” than you are to see reactionaries type-screaming “LISTEN TO [CIS AND TME] WOMEN.”

The trans-women’s-presence-as-threat narrative feeds into violence against our trans sisters; it is simultaneously used to justify and whitewash this violence.

Women who don’t experience transmisogyny are major enactors of this violence (physical, sexual, verbal, etc.)—transmisogynistic violence is in no way something we should predominantly only understand as committed by men. Certainly, male perpetrators are fully culpable. Further, their behavior should be met with far more condemnation and resistance than it currently receives. At the same time, men’s violence is often not ignored/excused using the same means that tme (transmisogyny-exempt) women’s is; this is one of the reasons I’m particularly talking about tme women in this post (an exception to this would be that this kind of denial/justification may also be seen in response to violence enacted by trans men, as a result of people more-or-less misgendering them). As you might have guessed, J.K. Rowling’s recent, more explicit reiteration of her transmisogyny on twitter was one of the things that prompted me to write this post now. I feel my being a part of the demographic of tme women comes with a responsibility to speak about the violence we both perpetuate and turn a blind eye to.

Disturbingly, one can easily find instances of tme women rationalizing the sexual violence our demographic does to trans women. The two cis women who groped a trans woman in a North Carolina women’s restroom (pinknews.co.uk/2019/01/10/two-women-detained-groping-trans-woman) represent just one example, one more publicized than the majority of what falls into this category of violence. My demographic also enacts transmisogynistic sexual violence and coercion within the context of intimate relationships; this too should not only be understood as involving male perpetrators.

Then, of course, there is terf harassment, involving transmisogynistic hate speech often heavily interwoven with sexual harassment. It’s fucking evil that this is such a regular experience for trans women—or, and this is even more evil, trans girls. It’s fucking evil that transfem people have to deal with this.

At one point I technically received said harassment in my pms before going for the block function; some terf had assumed me to be a trans woman after I pointed out a blogger’s transmisogyny. Of course, I wasn’t victimized as an individual. I knew I wasn’t the intended target, and that this was not a reflection of people’s hatred of my demographic. The words did no direct violence to me. What I felt was disgust at people’s cruelty, and later, an awful sense of powerlessness to stop them from hurting people.

But “powerlessness” isn’t the most helpful or productive framing, especially when there are many ways I am afforded power compared to others. I can’t control other people’s actions. But I have a responsibility to do what I can, when I can.

Anyway, I’m not saying anything new here. Many trans women have talked about these issues; my limited knowledge of these topics comes from witnessing trans women who I share some form of online community with discuss their experiences. As always, one should listen to oppressed groups about their own experiences moreso than to others—like me in this instance—who talk about those experiences. But I do think it’s important that the rest of us talk about these things. I don’t wish to merely be a bystander to oppression.

It’s not as scary or edgy as you think it is and it is 100% of the time more of a stressor for the person who has the condition than for anyone else. 

People who are most often stigmatized with the “““batshit crazy”““ label don’t want to harm others and experience significantly higher rates of violence directed towards than the general population because of stereotypes like these! Staring off into the distance and “acting weird” aren’t villainous traits. They’re just how people are sometimes. The “crazy genius” is a strung out trope that’s just shorthand so you can get away with not writing character motivation! We’re gonna dissect your girl like a frog specimen and take out her tender Character Traits to build her back better. Bionic frog. 

So to give you a stronger starting base here: If you want a troll to be a bad person, make them a bad person. It’s so much more interesting than them being randomly “crazy” and wacky. Make them malicious, and not because they’re ~not all there~. We’re gonna call New “Bionic Frog” Erenyx a bastard because she thinks she’s better than other people. She was born with strong psionics and she thinks that means she’s a cut above the rest, she thinks they should respect her and like her, and that’s why she wants to control others. 

(Cosigned as another mod with psychotic symptoms like… it’s not a great look. Also: Everyone on Alternia is terrible for the most part. It was DESIGNED that way in-universe. It’s a planet of hormonal teenagers who are encouraged to murder their friends and neighbors for kicks. You don’t need a “batshit crazy” smokescreen to just write a terrible fantroll. Vriska already exists, and she doesn’t have anything like that.)

Goals: Due to her, let’s say, interesting personality, Erenyx has no friends. So, she reasons, why not hypnotize lowbloods to become her friends? (I thiiiiink you misread my section on Goals: These are for you and us, not your fantroll’s ambitions (though nice information to have). I’m going to do this as a general review in lieu of anything specific.)

Strife Specibus: Yoyokind. It’s got a swirly pattern and spikes, naturally.

Fetch Modus: I never bother to think these up, it’s more trouble than it’s worth honestly. (Lowkey agree with you there- I’m horrendous with these. I do think something to help flesh out this spiral motif might be fun? Impressionism, maybe? Some late-Picasso looking art and she’s gotta find the items in it?)

She could also have to solve a maze or labyrinth to get out. Or you could go with something that plays on the Cobra angle and do a snake charmer joke with her playing a pungi.

Symbol: Actually, I haven’t decided yet. I don’t know why, I just never get round to it.

You could probably rip a symmetric chunk for a pattern like this and have a pretty good gold symbol on your hands.

If she loves to seem purposefully confusing, you could mix up her words. Organize her sentences in a way that people usually don’t. The best example I can think of this is… I used to follow this RP blog a while back, amusedmuralist, and the way sentences are structured here is what I’m thinking. “Waste your lowly selves not the time allotted you.” 

A generally ‘better than thou’ attitude and insults/put downs can go a long way, too. 

Special Abilities: Various methods of hypnosis, most of which aren’t very good.

Lusus/Guardian: Cobra Lusus

I do like this a Lot but what about . Kaa. She could face the common troll problem of having a lusus that needs to eat other trolls, and she needs to trap them to feed her snakemom before her snakemom gets hungry and turns on her! 

Personality: As stated above, she’s not exactly the most sane troll on the block. Likes to dish out weird threats to innocent passerby and giggle to herself for no reason. Likes spirals. (This is barely even window dressing on a personality- you’ve made her theoretical, stereotypical mental illness her whole character. You’re overcommitting to a pretty bad gimmick, to be frank.) (To quote the EZ Gold Signs: “Gold Signs are interested in a wide variety of topics, so they tend to be Jacks-of-all-trade, and can have trouble dedicating themselves to just a single hobby or career. They have a tendency to be high-energy, and can stress people out, including themselves.” This may be a good place to start for a character like this.)

And as I’ve said above, she believes she’s a cut above the rest. She could be a little on the cruel or at least inconsiderate side, a better-than-you type. She could look down on other blood colors and the like. Another gold fact from the EZ is that golds love The Hustle, they like making bank. You could play on a manipulation and control angle and instead of relying on a bad mental illness stereotype, make her an extortionist playing mental health professional? Come to her Hypnosis Clinic, she’ll definitely help you get a good night’s sleep/work through your trauma/cut that chalk eating habit! [Fails to brainwash you] 

Interests: Hypnosis, obviously, and other methods of controlling people. Spirals, swirls, other similar things. (You say Spirals and my first thought is early game Uzumaki. Maybe she has an interest in strange art? Really underground, indie shit that the Highbloods would NEVER see as equal to their epic sculptures and Clowns and stuff.)

Actually, I want to step a layer deeper here. What are spirals traditionally associated with in homestuck? C h e r u b s. And what is there evidence of on Alternia? Giant Snake (Cherub) Corpses. And given that the purples worship the merciful messiahs, I’d be unsurprised if spirals actually featured rather heavily in Clown Church Religion. Erenyx could have an interest in art history on top of an interest in modern perplexing imagery. She could be interested in finding the deeper meanings. She could think that she, in all her GENIUS WISDOM, understands this art and the meaning behind it better than anyone else and that she’s unlocked some hidden truth that means she deserves to be in charge. 

It could also be a sparking point for her interest in hypnosis- maybe her psionics don’t actually lend themselves well to mindcontrol, but she’s trying to jack into whatever force allows purplebloods to Chucklevoodoo.

Title: See lunar sway. (I think if hypnosis is her game, she’s probably a Heart/Mind inversion player. Actively messing with people’s brains, passively messing with their souls and identities.)

Yeah, cheesy as it is, I’d rule her as thief of mind. Or witch. One of those. 

And design corner time: 

Hair: I cannot believe you gave me a spiral character and didn’t give her SWIRLS. I had to just embiggen the hair a little more. Big hair on alternia is associated with the Condesce and thus power, so having a big spirally mess of it? Screams Better Than You. 

Face: I adjusted her mouth’s position mildly and changed the glasses to cherub colors as a reference to that cherub comment I made up there, but you could change them out for any appropriate themeatic colors- she didn’t have any Accents before! 

Outfit: I changed her outline and sweater color to go for something lighter, so the hair would stand out from it better. I added a conceptual symbol for her! Golds don’t wear patterns, so her socks are solid yellow now. I also fixed up her shoes by bringing in tavros’ sandals to edit. You don’t need to draw out individual toes on a sprite form wearing shoes, or else the area gets visually complicated! 

Other than that I love this design a lot.

Sorry to disappoint you, but shipping Ilia with Sun or Jaune really isn’t the best thing to do now that she’s a confirmed lesbian. (I’m actually really not sorry.)

Why? Why is this such an issue? It’s just shipping, just an idea. It’s not like doing this suddenly means Illa turns straight or anyone is actually saying that. So why is this an issue?

Shipping straight dudes to make them gay doesn’t take away from straight representation. Media is incredibly heteronormative and queer people rarely see themselves represented. Even when we are we’re mostly just side characters, often badly written. Additionally male gay characters are way more represented in media and fandoms and queer women are often overlooked (not to even talk about all the other identities). 

... Okay, what you just described is a zero sum game, in which something can only be gained by taking away from another. Thus nothing is added. And honestly, it’s stupid to think this way about fictional concepts. Shipping is NOT real and it does NOT take away from canon. Just as well: SHIPPING IS NOT ACTIVISM. You do not get moral credit for shipping gay ships or lose it for shipping straight ships.  None of this belogs in shipping.

Yeah, Media is incredibly heteronormative...so is the human race. Washinting post says that 96% of people are heterosexual in the US, which is one of the most liberal countries in the world. The thing about most gay characters being poorly written...so are most straight characters. Sturgeon’s law: 99% of media is crap. It is an issue for gay characters but it’s not SOLELY their issue as well. As for the gay woman thing: Source please.

Good lesbian representation is incredibly rare. Shipping the only confirmed lesbian character on the show with a dude just because some other people ship Johnlock or whatever is just ignorant. Shipping two straight characters of the same gender doesn’t take away from straight representation because straight people just don’t have the issue of their sexual or gender identity being represented enough in media. Full stop. 

You know, if you keep referring to representation as a zero sum game: I DEMAND you go all the way on it and call out people who do ship two straight characters because in the context of a zero sum game: it actually IS taking away from straight representation and for you to not look like a massive hypocrite, you NEED to call them out. ... Or just let people ship whatever they ship because people will ship two or more characters for any numbers reasons and not just representation and not everything is about representation. But really, considering what else you’ve pulled that might be asking for too much.

Ilia is a lesbian and lesbians often face the struggle of their identity not being taken seriously, especially by men who want to get into their pants. Shipping Ilia with men now that she is a confirmed lesbian plays into that stereotype. Of course there is a difference between “in this AU Ilia is bi because I really like her with Jaune, but I know she’s a lesbian in canon and accept that” and “she shouldn’t be a lesbian, canon is wrong, she should date Jaune in canon, I will write long posts about why they will end up together”. The latter especially feeds that stereotype and it’s probably what most people see when they talk about why shipping Ilia with a man is bad.

... What stereotype are you talking about? You never referenced a stereotype, just something that happens in realm life that is only tangently connected.

And as for the two choices thing: you’re wrong. It can be anything from “I ship these two for political reasons” (you and your strawman) to “I ship these two because they look cute together” to “I ship these two because I like the story ideas” to “I ship these two due to how healthy I perceive the relationship to be” to so many more reasons I can’t name. Shippers don’t all ship for political reasons. ALMOST ALL shippers don't ship for political reasons. And I have NEVER seen someone write posts like that about Illa X Jaune so that doesn’t even make sense.

Also: Your last part basically says “Shipping Illa with a man is bad because Lesbians are fragile flowers that need to be coddled.” And that’s just stupid to me. I now you don’t mean it like that but that's what it basically boils down to.

Comparing the experience of queer people not being represented in media to straight people seeing some 14 year old draw Johnlock fanart is incredibly ignorant and maybe you should educate yourself a bit more about these issues before you start invalidating the serious concerns some queer people who face these issues every day of their life have. 

And this is the part that really ticks me. “If you don’t think like me, you’re ignorant and stupid!” That is what you said, RWBY-Analysis. That is what you said and that’s disgusting. Just as well: What if that 14 year old drew some IllaXJaune fanart, totally oblivious to all these politics and just because they think the couple is nice? Are they being wrong then? And comparing the actual persecution and harm done to LGBT people and fucking shipping is so...WRONG that I refuse to acknowledge that.

This definitely is a thing we should talk more about, but not by making stupid statements like you just did.

Listen, when it comes to sexual orientations everyone is entitled to their own headcanons. Right now there is only one character whose sexuality has been confirmed by canon, and that is Ilia. For everyone else it’s all pretty much up in the open, so there is no real reason to discuss that. I personally headcanon Weiss as super duper gay, but people who headcanon her as straight are just as valid. You do you. I won’t even discuss that with you because both headcanons can happily coexist. 

Notice what she is saying: HEADCANONS/ AKA FANDOM. Not Canon, FANON. Meaning that no matter how many people ship Straight Illa, it does not change the FACT that Illa is gay. So there should be nothing else, right?

But when it comes to valid concerns members of the LGBTQ+ community have regarding how the fandom treats certain characters, especially when it comes to Ilia, the only confirmed lesbian, then that’s probably not the right moment to play the “straight people have it just as bad nowadays” card.

No, they are NOt valid concerns. Those people-YOU are not entitled to having the fandom revolve around you and bend to your will. People are allowed to do what they want in a fandom so long as it is not hurting anyone and shipping Illa X Jaune is NOT hurting anyone. It CANNOT hurt anyone but people who shouldn’t BE on the internet in the first place.

Also: Way to go ignoring how society is treating being straight and cis as a bad thing and how all straight and cis people hated all LGBT people.

I am always willing to answer questions anyone has regarding these topics, but as the question so the answer. Don’t come into my askbox complaining about concerns queer people have voiced because that doesn’t really scream “I am willing to learn about this topic and have a constructive discussion about it”, to me it just comes off as if you want to vent, and my askbox is not the right place for that. A:     I have so many ideas for Rchimedes and his magic that I should be working on but i’m so lazy and he’s so complicated it’d take a lot of thinking but to me, since he’s the origin of magic and demons (even with the help of Elf) he would know a lot of spells actually, leaning more towards the original elements excluding a few misc kind of powers he made for himself just so he could be ‘cool’.

Even though he knows a lot of spells, he can be pretty biased towards a few specific powers.

Like!! Fire magic (Example: Death Flare when he fought against Samejima and when Alba kinda burst into flames). He wouldn’t use it very much unless he’s attacking a wide area because once it touches something, it can spread easily and he most likely used a lot of fire magic back when he was in control of the Demon World and would murder and destroy villages.

Air would be a really useful magic actually. In my opinion, where he was fighting against Samejima was a kind of air magic because he kinda sliced his fucking arm off. I also think he’d use it to slowly choke people… Like!! Tightening the air pressure around someone so they can’t breathe and making them suffer a slow and painful death or nearly killing them as punishment for being defiant when he’s the Demon Lord and you don’t just fucking defy your god.

He’s used a lot of Earth based magic while creating the Demon World since… Well, for obvious reasons. Not to mention he started off his magic using science and earthy materials with the help of Crea before everything went to shit and Natural shit is usually the origin of a lot of things. Also there’s his flower magic which also comes from there, so the thing that started it all is also what makes his flower magic work in the end. Going into detail about it, of course he’d probably be able to manipulate his surroundings? Making vines do what he wants, trees falling, creating boulders are just some things that can come to mind… Also like, making solid ground turn into quick sand or something of that nature.

Uhm I don’t have many ideas for water related magic… Because if anything it’d be something he’d play with like the childish person he is. Like if he took a bath he’d make little orbs and pop then. Then again, there’s also using the water molecules in the air. I can see him creating ice spears or really sharp things out of ice in general to stab people haha… Especially in the winter time. Assuming the Demon World has winter, but he’d still do that in the human world as well knowing him. There’s also yanno the fact that there’s water in the human body, and one could only imagine what he’d do with that.

Those are just the main elements but there’s also Space magic because he would of needed to have that kind of magic to create the Demon World because it’s separate from the human world an Dimensional rift. He moved Originia and the mountain first with the space magic in my opinion, and he build the demon world using that as a base. Gates are also in the space magic category because it manipulates the space around him to create a portal to another place (or should i say space lol). It can be far away or close by and closing it abruptly cuts off the connection of two separate locations. (Example: Shion getting his arm fucking cut off.) I also think he’d be able to take one thing and move to another place with just the snap of a finger but that’s kind of expected and nearly a common assumption I’m sure?

Then there’s time magic as well, but that isn’t something he’s as skilled in because time is a really touchy thing to deal with, let alone experiment with freely to learn how it works without there being repercussions. He’s played around enough to go back a max of about five hours and forward and slowing down time as well, but that’s all. If he knew how to use it completely, he would’ve already went back to save Cecily and Lake after all so there are limitations and he can’t go changing a bunch of fucking shit yanno, because who knows what might happen. (Stares at Elf and Alf.)

ASIDE FROM THAT, I think a magic he’d create solely for himself to be cool would be electricity based magic. Conjuring blue electricity in the palm of his hand and being able to to use it for various attacks and whatnot, and it can get really dangerous if he’s close when he uses these attacks compared to far away— But it’d still hurt like a bitch. It’d be especially useful towards heroes I’m sure because of the metal of their weapons that attracts it. NOT ONLY THAT, but there’s also the fact that you know electricity can be used in a way relating to bringing people back to life and whatnot… I’m sure a part of him thought he could use this mixed with some other magic to ‘bring back Cecily and Lake’ since he assumed they were dead and stuff and not just sent into the future.

On the topic of mixing magic, He’d probably mix magic of two different elements into one single attack! Take Alba’s situation in the final battle as an example— His body burst into flames, but he was also sent to the Dimensional Rift! So that’d be a mixture of fire magic and space magic, you know? He could manipulate two elements that are advantage together to make an attack all the more devastating and harmful and that’s precisely why he’s someone to be feared. (And he WAS, of course, as you can see from the fear he brings to the human world and all he did to his creations in the Demon World.)

In addition to magic relating to elements, there’s also Ma which is Rchimedes’ profession because he’s the one that started everything with the power of Ma and negative power. I forgot to put it in that post but I will after I talk about it here— But anyway I’d like to think that he can manipulate negative feelings in others to a certain degree. Just like how Ma looks in its true form, he can sometimes see a blue lining or aura or just a general feeling in general only he can feel towards people with brooding hate because of his relation to his strength and Ma, so he can agitate the growing hatred and drive others into lashing out on said emotions which in turn only adds oil to the fire and feeds into his own power.

But Rchimedes is someone who’s always creating and thinking so he’d constantly be doing more things with his magic to use them in different ways and create new magic!! The list would slowly be surely growing the more he studies his magic capabilities and experimenting.

He wasn’t complete trash, he had a wife and probably treated her like a queen.So 2nd would be really polite to her because that’s technically his mama (✿´‿`)
