arthur (prince of camelot) still has to study under a tutor bc yknow uther wants him to be very intelligent before becoming king or something bc its super important idk idc anyways merlin is doing chores in his chambers while arthur is squinting at a book and merlin eventually caves and asks him what he’s reading and arthur gruffly explains that its a collection of stories from greece that make absolutely no sense so merlin asks him to read them outloud to him. arthur of course teases him and calls him an idiot and asks how he could possibly help but does as he’s asked and reads the stories to merlin as he does his chores. merlin (being crushed under the weight of destiny and tormented by the prophecies that kilgharrah spews) understands the stories almost immediately and gets all excited and starts rambling about them with arthur. arthur is glad to have someone who understands so he can give something that reflects a hint of understanding to his tutor who accepts it and moves onto the next unit of education.
the thing is, arthur finds more stories in camelot’s library and brings them up to his room to read them aloud to merlin under the guise of completing his studies but really he just wants to watch as merlin’s eyes gleam when he understands whats happening and listen to him ramble on and on about them bc he’s gay. the stories stick with merlin though and he realizes that they’re cautionary tales, that the heroes who were told too much of their future doomed themself to fulfill them - that them fighting the prophecies led to their completion. merlin takes it to heart and gives a big “fuck you” to kilgharrah before forging his own fate and helping morgana with her magic and handing out an olive branch to mordred and now everyone can live happily and peacefully in an albion teeming with magic.
#merlin and arthur are of course at each others side in the end#merlin is curled up with arthur in their bed and says a silent thank you to his king for saving him#arthur returns the sentiment wholeheartedly#bbc merlin#merlin emrys#arthur pendragon#merthur#fic idea#fanfic#fanfiction#headcanon#hc#head canon#merthur prompt#i have my own hc of fate vs destiny in bbc merlin and i like to incorporate that into everything i write#but then i realize that not everyone thinks that way lmao#i like to think that destiny is unavoidable. merlin and arthur are destined to form albion and lead it together#i think fate is like a fragile version of destiny#i think most people are tied to fate and will follow what they are fated to do unless those who arent tied down by fate change course#like i hc that seers are able to see the potential future of what is to happen should they not interfere#and the goddess leaves it up to them to choose. so like seers arent tied down by fate and can change the course of history#since merlin is literally magic incarnate i also think he isnt tied down by fate and can act to change things#kilgharrah told merlin the prophecy that would result in the dragon getting free and ending the pendragon line#and since merlin never got close w like any druids or magic users. no one told him the inner workings of fate vs destiny#so he listened to the dragons warnings dooming him to fulfill the prophecy that brought about one of the worst possible futures#bc the dragon was salty about his whole species being eradicated by uther and vowed to destroy the pendragon line#omg im ranting okay post over thank you and good night

I love that small little nod Arthur does when he's like "hey guys, this is gonna be dangerous, I understand if no one wants to join me <3" and then everyone joins him anyway
It's like he doesn't expect it, but he also expects it, so the nod is like yes, this is the bond between people
#bbc merlin#merlin#arthur pendragon#they also tend to play the same sorta music during it#music which i cant findddd in the soundtrack - annoyingly#the best version of it is just before the ride out for the dragon and yet i cant seem to find it sighs#i think the only variation they have of it is like in a longer piece which i love#just not the cool version i like :P

@merlinmylove 's recent chapter of "Of Mice and Kings," had me thinking of what if Arthur found out about Merlin's magic and then Uther somehow finds out too. He does the whole, "he's to be burned!" "magic is evil" yada yada yada; but as we know, Uther's a fucking hypocrite. So, what if Arthur, knowing this, somehow convinces Uther to keep Merlin alive because he's so loyal to Arthur.
Uther: He's to be burned like all of those who practice magic!
Arthur: Mhm, but have you considered?
Arthur: Merlin is my Gaius?
Uther:
Uther: I suppose that's fine then
Like I know Uther very much had favorites, and Arthur is not one of them, buttttt, Merlin has somewhat endeared himself to Uther, and I guess from Uther's perspective, seems to have the same mentality as Gaius, where he'll practice magic but (in front of the King) seems to be "an asset to the fight against magic," or whatever he said.
Alternatively, I also see Arthur still not knowing about Merlin's magic, Uther still finds out, but he likes his son and his silly little manservant enough to overlook it because Merlin seems to be the one to always take care of magical threats: like if he finds out before the Mordred episode, when the druid boy can't be found, maybe he thinks Merlin "took care of it" (aka killed him). With this version, I also definitely see Uther trying to make merthur happen, lol
[Edit] omg, I was so out of my mind when reading the end notes, cause I understood "check out my tumblr," and not "check out this fanart someone made of my fic"

I kinda want a version of Merlin where “Emrys” is more of actual character/deity rather than just a name.
Kinda like Raava, from atla. Merlin is emrys, when he chooses to be. Emrys isn’t a ghost but rather resides with Merlin’s magic and can be called into help. (Kinda of like a cleric). Merlin is still powerful and born with magic, not because of Emrys but that is why Emrys chooses to stick around Merlin.
Like Emrys is some vague deity/god who sees Merlin being born and thinks “whelp this kid is going to have a hard time” and immediately loves him. So he resides in Merlin’s magic, and tries to teacher him.
He also tries to help Merlin flirt with Arthur - that’s still a work in progress though.
He also dislikes that “over grown lizard”
So because of this things go a lot smoother and Morgana doesn’t turn evil, and Arthur doesn’t die and very happy ending.
This also increases Merlin’s cryptic behaviour by a thousand.
God-like figure who loves his son and can’t say no to him 🤝 a young adult with untold powers with no conception of royalty = chaos

My Last Faerie King Theories
SPOILERS FOR THE LATEST SNIPPET
As an old shadowhunter veteran, I will propose some ideas and debunk theories I have seen.
First, I highly recommend reading The Wicked Powers Wiki page, which already has a list of released details and snippets from Cassie.
https://shadowhunters.fandom.com/wiki/The_Wicked_Powers
I have seen some guesses that the landscape in Kit's Nightmare is Thule, but I don't think so.
First, Thule!Livvy told Emma and Julian that Thule!Ty was killed, and she then burned his body. I think the details of burning his body are very significant and purposeful to confirm in no way that version of Thule!Ty can come back or influence Our Ty.
So, who is this long-haired and emo looking Ty? I think it's just a nightmare, but somewhat prophetic as we've seen many of Clary's dreams.
Cassie has said this trilogy will be loosely based on Arthurian legends. As a literature major who has read many medieval works (no, I am not white, but I am autistic!), my best guess Cassie will mostly use Syr Thomas Malory's version (Le) Morte d'Arthur (probably the most famous version of most Arthurian legends which any modern media bases their lore on like the show Merlin).
Theories and Ideas Related to the Arthurian:
The Wastelands and Fisher King
Firstly, the landscape described in Ty's dream sounded like The Wastelands, where the Fisher King lives and rules. This is the legend with the Holy Grail. The Fisher King holds the Holy Chalice, and his land is barren, dead. He can only be healed by a bleeding lance, like Ty's weapon in this dream (which has Christian symbolism, blah blah), so the Knights of the Round Table, aka our gang of troublemakers, are sent to retrieve it. Kit's nightmare could be showing that he and Ty will be separated in this journey and since time works unusual in other dimensions (including Faerie), Ty may have to face part of this journey alone which creates this scarred Ty we see who was alone in a dead land may have become someone darker.
Cassie mentioned KitTy would be going on a road trip, so they may have to retrieve the Seelie Queen's missing crown in another dimension or, more likely, in the Unseelie Land. Even if this quest is unrelated to her crown, they could be doing a major side quest for a powerful item to save someone like Jaime who went missing in Faerie (or something idk cause I didn't care enough about him to remember that subplot).
Invisibility is used in the Fisher King story to travel through the Wastelands.
If I remember correctly, Arawn (the dead Unseelie King and Kieran's baddie daddy) had an invisibility cloak. Each (Un)Seelie monarch has an item of magic as a symbol to rule their land, and I believe his was a cloak which was also missing if I remember right.
They could also use the Eternidad (Rosales Faerie teleporter thing), which hides the user in Faerie. Kit's faerie powers may activate it and make it a weapon (or his sonic screwdriver). Dru and Jaime might go with KitTy with the Eternidad in another version of this theory.
The Fisher King could be Kit's mother or another powerful being or important figure to Kit. It won't matter much because when the hero heals the king's wound, the land flourishes and the king doesn't really stick around. After all, the king isn't a character but a personification of the land; he is like a memory or a spirit.
Arthurian Characters and Parallels.
In this theory:
Kit is Arthur.
Ash is Mordred.
Janus is Agravain
Now, in Malory's version, Mordred is Arthur's bastard half-brother son, but my guess is Ash is supposed to reflect the more popular version of Mordred, where he is Arthur's nephew. Evil nephew (Ash) has the same right to the (Seelie) throne as his uncle(ish) since Kit is distantly related to Seelie Queen.
I believe Janus is Agravain, who helps Mordred destroy the knights and allies of the Round Table from within and kills Lancelot (may try to kill someone important by pretending to be Jace).
Morgan Le Fay/Morgause might be Kit's mother or the Seelie Queen because Morgan was originally a benevolent figure until Malory's time, when she is evil or morally questionable but sometimes good. Morgause is the mother of Mordred and sister to Morgan, but she usually isn't evil, so it could be a toss-up.
However, Livvy will be very problematic, so she could be like Malory's version of Morgan and be the evil sorceress.
I do think Livvy will become an evil influence on Ty because GOTSM shows her thinking about possessing Mina. I think Livvy will make a deal with a powerful demon or get an idea to get a corporeal body by telling Ty she found a way to bring her back and telling him to do this task that appears no biggie but is, in fact, a big evil biggie that will involve a decrease in his autonomy, like I don't know, getting possessed by a princely demon.
I think the Ty we see in Kit's nightmare might be him possessed or heavily influenced by Livvy.
Another version of this theory:
Ash is Arthur.
Janus is Agravain.
Ty is Mordred.
Kit is Merlin.
Seelie Queen is Morgan.
Here is why this may be a greater possibility.
Merlin's powers are of a seer, warlock, and shapeshifter. This could be one of Kit's undiscovered faerie powers that we may see. He is already getting dreams and has shown powers.
Ash is the heir to the throne and will undergo character development, realizing his uncle(figure) is not a great guy. Now, Ty, being Mordred, is primarily because of another influence or possession and he may help Janus destroy the world. Depending on which legend, Morgan is a bad influence on Mordred and Arthur, but will show mercy (or weakness) when Arthur dies.
I have more theories on the alternate dimensions but I will make another post on those.
These are my thoughts. Thanks for reading.

I had an idea for a Post canon merthur AU!!
I don't know if you have seen Sakura Card Captor? Well, there is a character called Yukito that has double personality/two alter egos. One that is a regular human being with sunshine personality called Yukito and the other that is a literal Angel/powerful creature that is cold and merciless called Yue. The interesting thing about this character is that, while Yue is aware that Yukito exists and can access to Yukito's memories, Yukito doesn't have the same privilege. Yukito, as far as he knows, he is just a regular teen student that sometimes has mental gaps.
So I wondered, what if Merlin, due to all the trauma he went through or maybe through a spell he did to himself, splited his personality in two so he could handle the long wait for Arthur's return better? One would be Emrys, the most powerful sorcerer that ever lived that also incarnates the worst aspects of him, basically Dark Merlin in all his glory, and the other one would be a Merlin without his memories, ergo, without all his traumas, his personality would be series 1 innocent Merlin, but this Merlin doesn't have magic (or rather he has it, but is blocked) and he thinks he is a common mortal man.
So one night Arthur finally returns and it's Merlin who finds him when he comes out of the lake (Emrys made sure Merlin always lived close to the lake). Of course, he's startled an somewhat scared but a feeling inside him urges him to help this stranger. The man is wearing a knight armor and talks old english for some reason. (Merlin never thought his extra studies in old english that he took for fun would actually come on handy). The man only says nonesense as he helps him out of the lake and takes him to his home thought. Apparently the stranger firmly believes he is King Arthur and that he is Merlin the wizard. He has to repeat him several times that he isn't, but they do share the name though.
Merlin: (gives Arthur a change of clothes and says in old english) Here. These are the biggest clothes I have. They might fit you and I put some blankets on the couch for you to sleep.
Arthur: (doesn't take the clothes and just stares at him)...
Merlin: (thinking he didn't speak the language correctly) I said-
Arthur: (heartbroken) You really don't remember me, do you?
Merlin: (sighs) No. I don't know you. I'm sorry.
Arthur: (almost desperate) You do! I don't know what they did to you or what happened to this place, but I'm going to figure it out. I promise!
Merlin: (smiles) Sure you will. (Thinks) He must have some mental affliction, poor man. (Says as he leaves the clothes on the couch) I'll get you some hot chocolate. (Makes a move to go to the kitchen, but has a sudden headache and faints)
Arthur: Merlin! (Runs and catches him before he hits the floor, worried) Merlin, are you alright? Please, wake up! Merlin (shakes him)
Emrys: (opens his eyes that are glowing gold) My king (his eyes water) You are back. (Craddles Arthur's face)
So Emrys explains his condition to Arthur and also that 1500 years have passed and there's probably a catastrophy coming their way since Arthur is now back and all. Obviously, it's a lot to process for Arthur and he doesn't take it all well at first, but he calms down and accepts everything eventually. Arthur can't help but notice this version of Merlin, despite crying for him at the beginning, seems void of emotion most of the time.
Emrys does a spell on Arthur so he can speak modern english and tells him he will switch back to being Merlin soon.
Emrys: (serious) You can tell him you were delirious due to almost drowning or that you had some mental affliction. He already believes that anyways.
Arthur: I'm not going to lie to him, Merlin.
Emrys: I'm not Merlin. He IS Merlin and he's not going to believe you are King Arthur.
Arthur: Why can't you stay like this?
Emrys: I'm too dangerous when I'm in control for too long. Merlin is harmless and can actually be your friend.
Arthur: You are my friend!
Emrys: (coldly) No, Arthur. I'm your weapon, your protector at best, but nothing more.
Arthur: I don't believe that!
Merlin: Believe what you want. (Turns his back to Arthur)
Arthur: And I won't lie to him either!
Merlin: Tell him what you want (Eyes glowing, about to switch)
Arthur: Mer-I mean Emrys! (Stops him by holding his arm and Enrys turns to him) When will I see you again?
Emrys: When I'm needed or when you call me. Don't abuse though. Merlin might get suspicious if he has too many mental gaps. (Switchs back to Merlin and faints again)
Arthur: (catches him before he hits the floor) This better not become an habit.
Time goes by. Merlin still believes Arthur is crazy, but at least he speaks english now. Merlin does find strange the Arthur has no document, nor he is register in the sistem apparently. Merlin doesn't have the heart to get this "King Arthur" out of his house though, since he clearly has no where to go so Merlin lets him stay. Not for free of course, he makes Arthur help with the cleaning and stuff and doesn't stand for prat behavior when Arthur acts all kingly.
Arthur gets why Emrys told him this Merlin was his Merlin despite him not having his memories or his magic. He is clumsy, he jokes, he smiles, calls him out when he's being mean, but also is there for him when he needs him. Is the Merlin he knew but more... happy. Without burdens of destiny or traumas of the past.
Meanwhile Emrys just appears when they are investigating or when there is danger coming their way, like a magical creature attack or a car Arthur failed to see when he crossed the street. Emrys never smiles or small talks, he just goes to the point and gets the job done. He is dark, but overall he is... broken.
Arthur heart eaches when he realises... he is the one who took Merlin's light. He was the one who broke him.
And that's all I have for now. I don't know how merthur would get together in this AU. What do you think?

could you please elaborate on how anachronisms are a feature not a bug? It's probably an issue of "kill the cop in your head" but despite knowing others have done it I find it difficult to accept *I* can mix elements from 1200s france and 600s england (for example).
The Arthurian literary tradition has never been Historical Fiction. Ever. And for many, it's not a detriment, but part of the appeal!
Sure, there are some Arthurian books that set out to be Historical Fiction, that is, pinpoint the era during which their story takes place and sticking to it. They may include historical figures to help immerse the story in that era. That's all well and good. But those stories contain anachronisms. Arthurian Legend has always "mixed elements" of the author's current era with their limited understanding of the past, it has always contained magic, it has always contained characters firmly cemented in mythos that were never considered to have really existed. It's a literary tradition built upon the stories which came before, not a transcription of factual events because we frankly don't even know squat about who Arthur "really was," if he existed at all.
I understand your perspective, I really do. I briefly had an editor who suggested female knights weren't Historically accurate so I should write them out. Gromer and Merlin both perform magic in the prologue, the events pertaining to the Green Knight are mentioned, but gender-neutral language when referring to knights (who this editor insisted should all be cis men) was a step too far. Around the same time, I had a sensitivity reader suggest that Gawain wasn't racist enough to Ragnelle (a Persian woman) and he should call her, his future wife, in my queer romance book, "a savage." Hand to my heart Anon that's a quote I had to read on my manuscript with my own two eyes. And I say to these people, "Are you lost?" Because even though I disclosed the nature of my books before letting these people read it, clearly it wasn't a good match. Literally kill the cop in your head and protect yourself from anyone who makes it more difficult by insinuating the Historical accuracies should be upheld, especially as it pertains to misogyny or racism. Excuse my French, fuck them and fuck that.
This hesitation to write "mixed elements" can come from the false idea a "true" or "objective" way to write within a Historical Era exists. There simply isn't. Unless you have a time machine, you will inevitably rely on anachronisms to bridge gaps both narratively and because the information simply doesn't exist.
Let's use your example to talk about narrative anachronisms first. Say you're writing in 600s Britain (since England didn't exist yet) but you want your character to stand in the stirrups. Ah nuts, they didn't have stirrups yet! That's okay. We're gonna borrow the stirrups from 1200s French version of the stories so your character can do what they need to do. Persia Woolley did this exact thing in her first book Child of the Northern Spring; she wrote Palomides into the story as a means for the Round Table to receive stirrups from the East and this upgrade is something which gave Arthur's knights an edge over others. Another instance could be women riding sidesaddle. Generally speaking, it was meant to keep women's knees together for the sake of modesty, but it also made sense from a practical standpoint as riding astride with ankle-length skirts was cumbersome and simply never done... or was it?
My good friend Alisoun from The Wife of Bath rides astride! Geoffrey Chaucer you madlad!! So while the general Historical fact, that women rode sidesaddle, still stands, they did so except when they didn't! Is this used to mark Alisoun, a fictional woman, as unconventional? Yeah, duh. So it would still be Historically accurate to have the majority of women riding sidesaddle. Alisoun can do things real women of this era weren't allowed to. But the point is this illumination casts doubt on the idea such a thing was unheard of. A woman riding astride wasn't automatically descended upon by a mob that stoned her to death. You can write her riding astride and no misogyny happens. The same could be said for female or transmasc knights, as I explained here. So you can write in a reason why this specific anachronism is present in your story, (Palomides brought the stirrups, Alisoun is a bad bitch who does what she wants, Marine and Silence are proof of GNC knights, etc). It might put you at ease about including it.
But you simply cannot do it for everything. You would spend more time reassuring the reader you're aware of the inaccuracies than you would be telling your story. Every Historical Fiction author in the world can corroborate this.
Even the most serious and intensely research heavy Historical Fiction will contain anachronisms. It's literally impossible to be 100% accurate. Let's say you scour contemporary sources like letters or writings, you're still forced to interpret those either through the inevitably biased author and/or whoever translated it (their word choice, what passages they omitted, etc). (I had to navigate this myself while researching Iranian Zoroastrians through Arabic-written sources, ie, the conquerors' interpretation of the people they sought to eradicate. On top of that, the text is then translated into English for me to read it. The document I end up researching from becomes many steps removed from authenticity, and yet it's all there is; the Avestan or Persian language texts with first hand accounts are scant to none, and also translated into English.)
Best case scenario: you have an artifact, in hand. You can still only glean so much from something that's degraded over many years, something that may be an outlier in and of itself, the authenticity of which could only be corroborated through the help of an expert, someone who is, just like you, living in the present and must make educated guesses with the resources available (carbon dating, context clues, chemical testing of materials, etc).
So sure, you could read in the documentation that this Historical figure had a mustache. A comb alleged to be used for facial grooming was found, which may lend weight to the supposed accuracy of the writings. But unless the documentation also says what color the mustache was, and the length, and the style, and during what point in this person's life they wore the mustache, and whether they also had side burns and beard, your interpretation is based on an inference and likely anachronistic. Even if you have a really detailed text, that's one source. That Medieval author could be a big liar! Maybe they got carried away embellishing their favorite king! Or they cut out the parts which made their favorite king look bad! Or they slanderously depicted their enemy king as depraved to make their favorite look even better by comparison! Every writer has their own agendas. We have no way of knowing the extent of it!
Now I want to circle back to anachronisms that aren't tied to a story element but perhaps something as simple as bridging cultural gaps or practical means in the story itself. By that I mean you cannot know every detail of their lives. What exactly did their Church services look like? How exactly did the nobles' spirituality differ from the lower class? We cannot know for certain and will inevitably fill in the blanks with what we understand of Christianity today. You will more than likely include foods they didn't eat out of necessity because the resources are so scarce or limited or for your own sanity. In book 2, I wrote Agravaine describing something to Ragnelle as "the color of a carrot." Well. They didn't have carrots back in 6th century Britain. They were imported through trade with the East which was a long time coming yet when Agravaine said this. Early Medieval people had other root vegetables, but what were they called? What color were they? Certainly not neon orange carrots thick as the hilt of a sword like we have today. But I left this in anyway because it's a single line. It's so brief as to be insignificant, it's meant to quickly call to mind a color the reader can identify easily. It works on a subtextual level as well since Ragnelle, a Persian woman, would know what a carrot is in the 6th century. So it's only half anachronistic. To me.
On the other hand, in book 1, Gawain and co are in Persia. There Owain and Gaheris eat peaches for the first time. They call them "stone fruit," as they've encountered other fruits with pits, but not these. Gromer, a native, explains they're called "peaches" and they come from China (a place he has personally visited, so he knows). None of these words would've been in Medieval dialogue, but the History of that fruit, which we now call a "peach," is sound. Because it's a moment of cultural connection, and Owain is shown carving peach pits for the rest of the book, and still doing so in book 2, grounding this in as close to Historically sound facts as I could was important.
Now if Owain wanted to bring that peach pit back to Britain and grow a peach tree for his wife Laudine, could that happen? Well, Britain's weather conditions are not at all appropriate for it and the soil probably isn't right and he's not exactly known to have a green thumb. But anachronisms are a feature, not a bug. It's not an "inaccuracy" to write this successful endeavor because I did it on purpose! It is "accurate" to my story! Not an oversight, but a creative choice made with intention. Now I've extended the use of the "prop" and maintained that cultural connection I went out of my way to include. Perhaps later, once Ragnelle has settled at Camelot, she would enjoy a piece of fruit from her homeland as a gift from Laudine. Now the whole thing has come full circle and become enmeshed with the story in such a way the readers won't say "Hey! How does Laudine have a functioning green house in 6th century Britain? That's absurd!" Yeah, well, not any more absurd than Owain's pet lion or his battle with a dragon.
I think this is perfectly okay to do even if you don't have the magical elements. Nothing in the exchange about carrots relies on fantasy. The peaches don't either, not until there's suddenly a functioning greenhouse made of perfect panes of glass. People did travel great distances even in that era. You're not obligated to point to a specific instance of this thing happening Historically for it to be valid in your story. Arthurian authors have literally never been concerned with that. More importantly, neither have the readers! But there are exceptions to many of the "rules" or preconceived notions Historically which can help support your narrative choices if you desire to seek them some of the time. You have a few Modern Arthurian authors writing Historical Fiction, but Bernard Cornwell also included magic and a ton of characters from the Mabinogion, Edward Frankland did the same with Gwalchmai and Olwen, and Henry Treece wrote Cuneglas so strong he could T-pose with two grown men standing on each arm as a display of his strength. Push those boundaries, everyone is! It's fun!
Reading more will help. You'll be able to see what your boundary of anachronisms are. What irks you while reading? What did you notice as inaccurate and not care about? What anachronisms did you enjoy best? Researching a lot will also help. Get a very thorough understanding of the era and location you intend to write in. Then you'll better understand where the gaps in knowledge lies and what you'll have to add anachronistically to fill them. I assure you no one is going to be angry if you write Gringolet as a big beautiful stallion instead of a more Historically accurate little fluffy pony. You'll drive yourself crazy if you get hung up on every detail.
That's all I got. Arthurian Legend frees you from this "Historically accurate" headache. If you're still having trouble, perhaps ask yourself if you what you actually want to be writing is Historical Fiction instead. That's totally cool too! But nobody who enjoys Arthurian Legend is concerned whatsoever with Historical accuracy and you shouldn't be either. So write whatever pleases you! Take care, I hope that helps clear things up a little. :^)

Hi! I just wanted to let you know that I've been reading your work lately, and I really love it.
They manage to bring tears and laughter to my eyes at the right times. Really cute when they're right and they're definitely my shot of happiness for the day.
So, I don't know, but I got to thinking, because I think you might be one of the people who can elaborate more on the idea I had in mind.
Idea:
Basically… Mordred meets Merlin before canon - Mordred for this story is younger, almost 3 years old -, and decides to simply self-adopt. Because he's a determined toodler.
Only because the druids who were taking care of him, after telling him high praises about Emrys and such, fell asleep. Leaving a little baby Modred completely fascinated and literally wishing to always be with Emrys.
That, without counting that he had heard from other druids that the boy Merlin of Camelot was the young man of the prophecies.
It wasn't much science, he put the pieces together and knew where he had to go… he just had to close his eyes, the magic basically spat him out in the castle courtyard.
Literally.
One day, out of nowhere, he came out from somewhere in the castle with his sleeping blanket, he kindly asked one of the servants to take him to his father Merlin, and he didn't stop insisting until someone took him to Merlin. Who was attending to Arthur.
Merlin, who literally doesn't know when he had a child, because he definitely knows that he was never with anyone, but that child looks so determined that he even begins to doubt his virginity.
"Can babies be created by magic? Gaius!!! Stop laughing at that!!"
The fact that Mordred is a half-breed version of Merlin physically speaking doesn't help much either. Everyone in the castle really takes it as a reality, even more so after the innkeeper came to the castle to collect some bills and publicly said that Merlin had never set foot in his establishment.
He was even surprised to see him saying that he had never seen him in his life.
So, that confession, the physical resemblance and a completely determined baby were enough for everyone in the palace, including Uther, to put two and two together and create the crazy idea that Merlin's escapades were to be with the baby's mother.
Now Merlin, who doesn't know when, finds himself in the need to take care of a baby who is his complete shadow. Who looks at him with such adoration that he follows him everywhere, and it seems that he has magic because strange things happen when Mordred is around.
I love the image of little baby Mordred deciding that he's Merlin's son now and no one can stop him! This prompt has a lot of crack humor energy, but what might make it angsty was if Mordred, after being accepted as Merlin's son for several years, suddenly had his magic revealed. Now Arthur is faced with the decision between his father's laws or his best friend's son, and that would force Arthur to think critically and ask "wait, if no one taught him magic (because who on earth be stupid enough to do that in Camelot?), then how can this little boy do magic?" This could lead to Arthur realizing that magic isn't always a choice, forcing him to reevaluate the magic ban.
I also absolutely loved Merlin's own doubt of "well maybe he is my son, I have no clue how my own magic works!" 🤣

You know what would have been more interesting to see in Wizards?
● Merlin regrets how he supported Arthur and ignored all the terrible things that he did and now realizes how much damage Arthur did to the magical world and how so many died at his hands
● Merlin's final breaking point and rejecting Arthur is finding out from Doxuie that after Merlin went to sleep for nine hundred years shortly after Arthur and the other knights tried to kill his son and Douxie just barely escaped coming full circle of Morgana saying "how long until he comes for us"
● Morgana kinda being an anti hero or like very very dark grey. evil but still some redeemable qualities but no redemption arc because she holds no regrets about her actions cause she is a badb****. Also because she most likely killed ALOT of people.
● Merlin calling Douxie son more often
● Douxie calling Merlin dad
● Jim imparting the training he has gotten onto Deya and getting a mentor relationship with Deya
● Deyas Backstory and her trauma at the hands of the knights
● The knights hurting and abusing Jim cause he's a troll
● Steve actually being useful (i really like him but dam he can get annoying at times)
● Us getting to know Merlin more as in Trollhunters we only saw a very hard and tired version I wanted to see the version that Douxie sees. The eccentric and kind version. The one he knows is there and while he is still very strict and hard he loves Douxie as his son.
● Morgana actually being evil. Yes, she did not want Arthur and the other knights to kill all magical creatures and tried to protect them but that came under her overall plan of being in control of everything and her big bad guy plan.
● Morgana having an unrequited love for Gwen
● Galahan after so many years filled with guilt and regret and how in his solitude of guarding the castle realises how much of a monster he became while following Arthur.
● Bellroc, Skreal, and Nari being actual siblings. and while Bellroc loves Nari they hate and despise humanity after so many years
● Morgana actually survives and teaming up with the guardians mainly Claire to stop the arcane order and keep Nari safe. It is VERY an uncomfortable relationship with everyone (cause u know) but enemy of my enemy and all that

I remember reading a fic a long time ago where a bunch of wackos tried to sacrifice Merlin as an offering to summon Emrys, without knowing Merlin WAS Emrys. (I am so sorry I can never remember the fics I am inspired by).
I just have had that fic bouncing around in my head, with my version of the concept being through the "sacrifice", Merlin kinda loses consciousness and his magic goes haywire, going somewhat out of control (no violence, just think overgrowth of nature), and when Merlin comes to, Arthur and the knights are freaking out. They are acting like they are talking to The Lord Emrys, not realizing it is still Merlin. Shenanigans/Misunderstandings ensue where Arthur wants to get His Merlin back and Merlin doesn't know how to break the news that not only does he have magic, he is also Emrys.

Artie and Guinevere /Shrek Universe
I grew up watching and loving the Shrek franchise. From the movies to the specials, and of course the Puss in boots movie. Now growing up, Shrek the Third wasn’t entirely my favorite movie- BUT I will admit…I had a huge crush on Artie- and watching the movie now it grew on me and the third film became one of my favorites. And it made me realize I still have a big crush on Artie….
ANYWAYS- Guinevere was kind of a..Biatch in the film- Like gurl you missing out- and since the Shrek Universe has many versions of the same fairy tales ect, I made my own version of Guinevere who works as a servant in the kingdom of Far Far Away (Her design was inspired by Guinevere in the 2008 Merlin Series)
I wanted to draw the two of them having a moment when Arthur became king
I also have always wanted to design an o.c for Shrek but I lacked the art and writing skills. But now that I have improved I can share my ideas out!
Arthur and Guinevere first meeting in the Third Film

What do you think the ROs would do for their partner on Valentine's day?
Merlin: They're holding a wild party because everyone is still alive on Valentine's Day! Also sifting through all the knowledge they've since gained regarding the holiday to have an appropriate date time with their partner.
Adrian: He's wondering how the &(*^* he ended up here? Might be shell-shocked, partner may need to take the lead here, but here he already pillaged the entire aisle of V-Day candy?
Arthur: If he's been awake for awhile, then it'll depend upon his partner. Do they like romantic dinners? Walks in the woods? Fighting off random monsters? If he just woke up he'll be asking what the hell this whole Valentine's Day thing is.
Percy: *reenacting this scene*
4̸0̴4̸ ̵E̸r̴r̴o̷r̵ ̵N̸o̶t̴ ̸F̵o̶u̶n̵d̵: REALLY?
Cassandra: Uh yeah, the partner will be expected to be taking the lead in this whole Valentine's thing, but hey, at least she actually makes time for it this year!
Gwen: She has been waiting all year for this and already hit the stores for all the proper Valentine's paraphernalia and now *insert five paragraphs of preparations for her Valentine like from the other Valentine's Ask*
Vivian: The same thing she's doing every day! Trying to (not) drown her partner! But hey, all of you can do the slightly darker version of Percy's V-day scenario, right?
Lorelei: If she's not ranting about Valentine's Day being nothing but a commercial holiday to take advantage of overly hormonal people, then she likes you. Also bad V-Day memories here.
Broderick: Standard romantic candlelight dinner, flowers, candies, wondering what in the flippetty fuck all the other Harbingers are doing. (屮゚Д゚)屮
Merlin: I know not what has Broderick so incensed, I'm being perfectly normal here! Cassandra: Are we done now? Then I'm going back to work... Gwen: *comes bursting in with a 13-page V-Day plan* Arthur: Do lovers still bring back the heads of hunted game as trophies for their paramours in this age? Adrian: (」゚ロ゚)」NOOOooooo━
#Everyone being perfectly normal per usual#oks-asks#oks-ROs#interactive fiction#one knight stand#oneknightstand#Let's not go to Camelot tis a silly place

The winner of that poll I put up was the "Merlin" fic tentatively titled "Two Can Keep A Secret"! Which is a Canon Divergence AU in which Arthur learns about Merlin's magic at the end of S01E02 "Valiant". ✨
Currently, I'm building up my world building and character list document for "Merlin" by going through the episode transcripts. (The fandom wiki has all of them, which is very handy.) And also casually reading some Arthurian Romance (mostly English and French, though I do have a reading list of the Welsh stuff), mostly just to have a loose understanding of the world there and its vibes just in case. Know the "rules" to break them purposefully, yeah?
At the moment, I'm slowly reading through Thomas Malory's "Le Morte d'Arthur" and finding some of it (very gross in a "oh, hm, there's mythology-typical sexual assault in this" way, but some of the other stuff is) VERY funny. The humor in this reminds me a lot of reading Tolkien.
I did not know that (in this version) some of the lords and knights had Arthur pull the sword out of the stone repeatedly for MONTHS. They're just not suuuuure, you know? He's just some kid! He's not even nobility (as far as they know)! He should pull the sword out again at Candlemas after other people have had a go again. No, wait, after Easter! After Easter, then maaaaaybe- Until ultimately the "commons" are like, "Crown this guy already or we'll maul you," and these guys have to beg Arthur's forgiveness afterwards.

👸Princess and Magician🧙
YAY! I made some sketches on the author's AU @pluck-heartstrings
I liked this story so much that I have a little courage to imagine if my character was present in a similar AU. I imagine Bella as a magician-conjurer, like Merlin in King Arthur. She entertains children with tricks and handicrafts (Bella: create various trash that parents will not save) + small shows with the presence of other animatronics. Secret note: She has a hook on her lower back hidden by a bow

I stick to my version of the AU, where she was an employee of a pizzaplex and her soul accidentally got into this robot. On the plus side, her remnant charges the robot well, so she needs to charge often haha.
Since I am a fan of the Princess and the y/n, so Bella actively helps her and feeds her with coupons for almost free food and merch. She is not so afraid to steal a trinket for the reader from the warehouse, since a dead person has nothing to be afraid of.

+ my character is also a singer, but not so strong in opera, but the voice modules correct false (I don't think that perfect singing is so important to Faz Corp, it is important for the role of the Princess). Double opera hurray and more of an entertainment show in the style of King Arthur, his knights, Merlin and Morgana. The main bonus: jesters.

A little later I will make more sketches for the role of my character, but she plays more of a secondary role, where she sits in her fortune-telling tent and creates a plan to escape from the new plex to which she was brought. After all, the previous one burned down, and a month before this incident she was taken out of the building for a systems check. She is made by a private company, so FazCo owns 50 percent of the rights to the robot.
ACTIVELY WAITING FOR THE CONTINUATION OF THE STORY😭💕💕
