so you know how zeff says to sanji “you can walk right back into the ocean for all i care” after sanji threatens to walk? yeah i think about that line a lot and specifically the way zeff says back. he doesn’t just say sanji can walk into the ocean, he says he can walk back into the ocean. it’s such a simple distinction but it holds so much meaning because, for all intents and purposes, sanji came from the ocean, from that storm and that rock. that single word signifies that whatever happened before, whatever sanjis life was before, doesn’t matter to zeff and it never will because well, why would it? zeff doesn’t give a damn about his past, for all he cares this kid and responsibility for him was chucked at him by the waves of that storm 9 years ago and that was that. and as for sanji? yeah it’s even more meaningful. in his own words: “13 years ago, vinsmoke sanji escaped the kingdom of germa and died at sea”. vinsmoke sanji died and the person he is now, the one who was shaped by zeffs guidance was born. the sanji we see really did come from the ocean, from a random part of the east blue that carried the ship that took him away from germa. it was because of that ocean and that ship that he was able to live the life he deserved and be the man he was supposed to be.

I recently read a fic that unlocked a previously undiscovered interest of mine, and i cant seem to find any other fics like it, so you guys get to watch me spiral (again)
This came from the Talia al-Ghul is Jason Todd's adopted mom pipeline, and the fic was a very short blurb where someone offered Jason the Joker's death as a courting gift, as according to the League of Assassin's tradition had to ask for Ra's blessing as the head of his family, and Damian tranqued Batman to let this happen, because 'this has nothing to do with you, Father, this is al-Ghul family business' and aaaaaa
Just, the League having its own culture, traditions.
I know its Ra's assassins club, but he is old as fuck. There have probably been families that are part of the League for generations. This amounts to not inly courting traditions, but customs, manners, holidays, all with a different twist that came with time in this isolated society, and i just want to see more fics that explore this.
Damian being cut out of his culture completely, no idea why no one responds the way he expects, not because of trauma and 'why is no one punishing or praising me', but genuine 'i told Drake i could demonstrate my skills with a blade for him, and why didnt he offer to show me how he fights with his staff??? He didnt even say he already knew how to use blades, is he implying that i am not sufficiently trained to be capable of teaching him? Does he think i am not worthy of being in this family, and thats why he refuses to train with me??'
(Meanwhile Tim firmly believes he just got threatened to be shish-kebabed by a 10 yo and is shook. Of course, Damian just wanted to spend quality time with his new family member the way he knows how to, but tim doesnt know that, and Damian doesn't know thats how tim understood it either)
And Jason being a part of the al-Ghul household, too, is very interesting. I love the concept of Talia sending him on his way to Gotham as Red Hood partialy to make the city safer for when Damian went over, Hood putting the fear of god into criminals so that the Demon Prince could walk through the city of his father with less fear and apprehension. Jason and Damian celebrating League holidays and traditions together (of course, jason only does it so the little guy can have this confor of home and family, he did promise T that he would take care of him, its not like he enjoys quality time with a family member he never tried to kill, or that he misses the conforts of the league and dinners with the al-Ghuls, of couse not).
Anyways, thank you for listening to my ted talk

I so desperately wanna know what lee sookyung and persephone's relationship is like. they share a son, I have GOT to know how lsk feels about that. is there grief that her son allowed himself to be adopted by another set of parents, when he struggles to connect with her? is she relieved that he has someone at all? does she try to tell persephone stories about his childhood, only to find there's only a small pool of stories she can tell, the rest of them colored by suffering and her absence? did they mourn him together?

Thinking about Mato and crying
He was the weakest of the brothers but the most excited and determined to become a nail master.
He looked up to Sheo so much, he is still thinking about him and hoping that he thinks of him and Oro in turn.
Sheo left them at some point to pursue another path and Oro betrayed and left Mato probably not long after.
Despite Mato's grudge against Oro the evidence that he still cares for him very much is there. specifically in the god home, where he jumps in to defend Oro when he is knocked down.
His dream nail dialogue in the fight is "Brothers always fight together!" And "Don't leave me behind!"
Clearly he feels he was abandoned by his brothers.
He thinks that he is unworthy of even being in the presence of the nail sage. His own father.
Mato is so enthusiastic and kind and so so lonely!!
He feels he is abandoned and unwanted, and he so desperately wants to be wanted!
and the thing that really gets me is just how much effort he puts into making it especially clear how loved and wanted his own pupil is!
If you choose not to be taught by him, he assumes you believe you are unworthy and quickly assures you that isn't true.
He gives you grand compliments, and tells you that "you honor him beyond words."
Even when he begins rambling about Oro after learning that you had met him, he quickly catches himself and says "I'm sorry. I shouldn't bother you with such things. I'm happy you were able to train under another nailmaster and grow stronger."
He so readily sets aside his grudge, and expresses his happiness for you !!
He genuinely wants his pupil to be proud of themself. He doesn't want them to ever feel the way he did.
He is so loving and so lonely..
When you come to visit him again for the first time, he is genuinely surprised and says it is "an honor he scarcely deserves"
This man needs a family!! This is a family man he shouldn't be alone!!!!

So I've been obsessed lately with httyd and got into reading all the fanfics out there and there was something that bothered me; every single fic depicted the red death as a violent monster that gets killed in each fic! And I just wanted something wholesome for her. So, this is long but hear me out!!
Let's make it a world where Hiccup kinda time travelled to the past, like to the moment he caught Toothless in the first movie.
After befriending Toothless again and giving him his ability to fly back, he starts to consider alternatives to do things in a new way than the future, to protect Berk, to protect his father, to never be forced to give up on the dragons and have them go into hiding, and say goodbye to Toothless.
He starts by thinking of killing off the red death first, to free the dragons and end the war.
So he goes to the nest, without Astrid this time, and same as the scene in the movie, the red death is recieving the food the dragons brought and as she raises to eat the gronckle that had spat a tiny fish, Hiccup shoots the stalactites of the cave to save it, that makes the ceiling collapse on the queen dragon while she's open mouthed, while other dragons flee
Hiccup keeps flying around the Collapsed mountain waiting for the red death to come out so he can defeat it, but she never emerges.
So he and Toothless venture inside to look for her, and find her body after searching for a while. He thinks that it really got killed by the collapse and that this is a miracle. Only to have her wake up.
And then the scene goes like this:
The cavern reeked of smoke, charred bones, and something deep and ancient, like the breath of the earth itself. Hiccup stood frozen, a single speck of human insignificance in the massive, molten chamber. His knees wobbled as a gust of hot air blasted from the darkness ahead, rattling his thin frame like a leaf in a storm.
enormous eyes, glowing like molten gold, cracked open.
Hiccup gulped. “Oh... Thor’s left sock.”
The Red Death loomed over him, her body shifting as she rose. Cracked scales, the color of lava-streaked stone, gleamed in the firelight. She was big—no, impossibly big. A mountain with wings. Her cavernous mouth split open in a snarl, exposing fangs the size of houses.
Toothless growled, his body tensed like a drawn bowstring. He stepped in front of Hiccup, wings spread wide, a tiny but fierce shield against a dragon the size of an island.
But the Red Death didn’t strike.
Instead, she stared at him.
A deep, unsettling rumble vibrated through the ground. Hiccup felt it in his ribs, in his teeth, in his very bones.
She was sniffing him.
His heart hammered. This was it. He was about to be eaten—bitten in half like a stale biscuit. Any second now, she’d—
She recoiled. Like she just felt something she hadn't felt ever in her life.
The giant dragon jerked back slightly, her head tilting. A sound escaped her throat—not a roar, not a growl, but something almost... confused. She sniffed again, nostrils flaring. Her wings twitched.
Toothless let out a warning snarl. The Red Death’s gaze flickered to him, then back to Hiccup. She lowered her head closer—too close—and the heat of her breath made Hiccup’s hair stand on end.
“Uh…” Hiccup raised both hands, the universal sign of please don’t eat me, you wouldn't know what to do with all of ....this.
The Red Death… paused.
For the first time, Hiccup noticed the tiredness in her eyes. The way her massive frame shifted as though uncomfortable. The faint groan in her throat—not a growl, but something else.
Something old.
And in that moment, something strange happened.
A pulse, deep and wordless, hummed through Hiccup’s chest. Like standing too close to a dragon’s wings as it took off, but inside him. It wasn’t fear. It wasn’t pain. It was... acknowledgment.
Does The Red Death telepathy reache humans?
The Red Death let out a long, slow breath, her massive shoulders slumping slightly. The fire in her chest dimmed, embers instead of an inferno.
Hiccup’s mouth went dry. She wasn’t going to kill him.
He exhaled shakily. “Okay. Well, uh… that’s new.”
Toothless grumbled, giving Hiccup a sharp look, as if to say, What are you doing, you tiny reckless idiot? She’s literally a natural disaster with teeth.
Hiccup, against all logical thought, stepped forward.
The Red Death’s pupils constricted, focusing on him sharply.
“Easy,” Hiccup murmured, lifting a hand. “You’re not… bad, are you?”
The giant dragon huffed. A gust of wind nearly knocked him over, but he swore it wasn’t aggressive—it felt almost tired.
Hiccup frowned. His mind spun. “You’re hungry.”
Toothless snorted. Obviously.
“No, I mean really hungry,” Hiccup insisted, eyes narrowing. He looked around—the bones, the scraps, the lingering scent of burnt everything. Dragons had been feeding her for who knows how long. But why? Why did she keep eating, devouring even her own kind?
He turned back to the Red Death, whose massive gaze had not left him.
“You don’t even know what you’re supposed to eat, do you?”
A deep, irritated growl rumbled from her throat.
Hiccup hesitated, dots connected in his brain, The Red Death confusion, like she's feeling something new, the scene of moments ago replaying in his mind. The huge dragon rising mouth wide open while rocks rained down from the collapsing cave.
He reached down. He grabbed a rock from the cavern floor—just an ordinary hunk of cooled lava—and hesitated.
Then, slowly, he tossed it toward her.
The Red Death’s pupils widened.
For a long, tense moment, she did nothing. Then, with an almost reluctant movement, she snapped it up.
The crunch of stone echoed through the cavern.
Hiccup held his breath. Toothless held his breath. The entire world seemed to hold its breath.
And then…
The Red Death rumbled.
Not a growl. Not a roar. Something deeper.
A pleased sound.
Hiccup gawked. “Oh, you have got to be kidding me.”
Toothless screeched.
The Red Death ate rocks.
Hiccup turned slowly back to her, his expression somewhere between hysterical laughter and absolute disbelief. “You mean to tell me… that if we had just thrown some rocks at you, this entire war wouldn’t have happened?!”
The Red Death made a low, grumpy sound.
Hiccup ran a hand down his face. “Oh, this must be some kind of a universal joke.”
Toothless smacked him with his tail.
Then, before Hiccup could fully process what was happening, the Red Death lowered her head. Closer. Closer still. Until her forehead nearly touched him.
Hiccup went still.
Something unspoken passed between them.
The weight in his chest—that feeling—grew stronger.
And suddenly, it clicked.
She wasn’t looking at him like prey.
She wasn’t looking at him like a threat.
She was looking at him like…
An heir.
Hiccup barely had time to open his mouth before Toothless body-slammed him.
The Night Fury let out a furious series of grumbles, nudging Hiccup away from the massive dragon with a very clear absolutely not, you tiny idiot, do NOT adopt the giant murder monster. Or get adopted by it.
Hiccup really doesn't know where this is going but it's his life right now, he has to figure it out eventually.

Silver doesn't need another father. He's already got one of those, technically, but the man turned out to be a weak, cowardly bastard who couldn't face his own problems let alone raise a child. The way he sees it, there's no need to set himself for more disappointment. He's got a roof over his head and food to eat, and that's far more than he could ever depend on in the last... however many years he'd been living on the streets. Lance and Clair are annoying as hell, but while he's training in the Dragon Den, he doesn't exactly have much room to complain. Not out loud, anyways.
Lance doesn't particularly want to be a dad either. He's already got too much responsibility on his plate as Champion, and this kid clearly needs so much more emotional support than he feels like he can provide. Simply convincing him to move into his guest room was enough of a struggle, and it only really worked because Lance had promised Silver he could "earn" his keep. What the hell is up with that, anyways? He's not sure what Silver's past looks like, and he's not about to go prying, but the bare minimum he can do is make sure he doesn't have to rough it out in the woods anymore. At least Clair seems to be having fun training him...
Clair is more than ready to be an aunt. The other two refuse to admit to caring for each other, but unlike them, she's not afraid of something as stupid as her emotions. The brat's slowly but surely been mellowing out during his training, and her idiot cousin has actually been taking care of himself for once in order to be a "good example." Silver has even caught on to calling Lance "old man" like she does, on account of those ugly-ass reading glasses the all-mighty Champion has to wear, and she couldn't be prouder. Best part is, she doesn't have to spend a dime except to treat the kid every so often! That's a win in her book if ever there was one.
#pokemon#pokemon hgss#hgss#rival silver#champion lance#gym leader clair#warning! lots of rambling in the tags >_>#love me some Father Figure Lance(TM) but the way i characterize him and silver doesn’t completely allow for it#they end up caring about each other deeply but as mentioned neither of them would feel comfortable labeling their dynamic as father/son#doesn't mean lance can't be silver's “old man” and silver can't be lance's “kid”#clair meanwhile is just delighted to have someone else to beat up on /affectionate. she's a big fan of tough love#she understands silver's not looking for a family and accepts it just fine but she's still going to adopt him in her head#the three of them are family now. he can't escape. he's going to be welcomed and taken care of So Help Her Arceus.#part of her likes to spoil silver in a way she never really got as a child#(though that doesn't mean she's ever going to go easy on him during training. if anything it makes her push him that much harder)#(this definitely doesn't make silver think she hates him or anything until lance explains she's Just Kinda Like That)#(she's actually much nicer to silver than most people---she's extremely assertive and has a very strong sense of justice)#(which makes her seem a bit bitchy to others at times (and they wouldn't necessarily be wrong))#((this is making me realize i need to just write a breakdown of my characterization for her tbh))#meanwhile lance tries to give him more freedom and space to breathe since that's what he always lacked growing up#he's still going to be there if silver ever asks but he also recognizes that trying to get too close too quickly will just scare him off#anyways#*vibrating in place with the intensity of a million suns* i am so normal about them. i love them a perfectly acceptable amount.
