So, a little while ago, I set out to find a new dating sim/otome game to play and my results weren't very fruitful.

After I read through several lists and found nothing new or anything that didn't have a currency cap, I’ve decided to make a concept for a otome/husbando collector game to make the game I'd want to play.

Taking several different games into account, I think I’ve made a decent concept that I would love to see actualized.

Despite my enthusiasm, I already know making a game isn’t a walk in the park and it’s certainly not as easy as picking up some game maker, putting assets together and selling it for ten dollars. It takes other concept writers, illustrators, developers, a whole damn team; but I’d still wanna share this in case it piques anyone’s interest or anyone's with me here.

Most games targeted towards those of us who like men are boring af. There’s only a few games that can even be considered interesting and even they have their flaws, most these games die off after a year or two.

I don’t like that.

I want to be able to see ads of objectively attractive men or I want to NOT see big boobs shoved in my face every time I get an ad for some new mobile wifu game.

The concept is simple:

A Husbando collector that’s not ‘press A to win’ or ‘pay to play’

My idea was rather simple when I first thought of it and I figured Obey Me! Would be good enough to cure my desperation for a game like this.

Despite that, Obey Me has its flaws that anyone who plays it presently is mostly aware of:

Simple and formulated events

Too many events

A huge focus on certain characters over others (which they seem to be aware of now)

P2P elements that have almost turned into the whole game at this point.

Other Otome games have much worse issues including:

A lack of actual gameplay

Terrible level curve

P2W/Paywalls

No story/uninteresting story

A lack of characters (usually there’s only four)

I could go on, but we get the point.

So, as someone who absolutely loves a good story, I also just want to have fun and look at some attractive guys. I wanted to see if I could make something that would work on both the gamer aspect and the husbando aspect.

Here’s my idea.

I’m running off an old idea I had as a kid where the player is rescued by a ninja who takes you back to your kingdom’s castle. From there, you’re pursued by the various occupants of the castle.

As for adding more characters without ignoring the old ones, I considered having various kingdoms all with their own "new character" you live through.

Once one storyline has ended—aka I’ve exhausted all ideas for that group of characters—I’d move onto another kingdom with a different problem/issue.

The default kingdom would probably be the one I made up as a kid where a prince is forced to become a king after his father dies, but he’s only 19 or so and his trusty knight does anything in his power to assist him.

Some of the other residents who come to reside in the castle are unique characters including the ninja who saved you and brought you to the castle and a young mage who hides himself in the castle’s dungeon so he can improve his skill.

Of course, this is just some half baked idea so don't take this as the end all be all.

In order to progress through the story you need two things:

Money and a high skill level.

Money

And no, I don’t mean money as in irl money, I mean those currencies these games frequently hold over our head and hide behind a wall of our paychecks (I’ll just refer to it as gold or G for now).

Gold could be earned in several ways:

Completing daily tasks

Sending some to a friend

Farming progression points (or battles)

Or, if you don’t wanna do any of that, you could just pay for it.

Gold is needed to buy certain items needed to complete a level

2. Skill Level

Levels would be requiring a specific set of items to progress through the enemy. However, there’s not a singular set at any one level that can win the battle, experiment with your well developed sets and find something that works for you!

*If I'm running off the medieval theme, these sets of items would be something like potions, spell books, knights, armor, etc… I could go into more detail, but that would extend this post even more.

Real quick, the characters would be able to use said items and gain an attribute based on whatever the item is. So say, our prince boy would benefit from fire items of any type and would gain an increase in his attack or skill based on the item he's given.

Now, here’s where I get to have a little fun with a demonstration!

I’ll be using a character from the anime Dream Festival as visual aids (it’s a pretty good anime, I would recommend it).

It’ll still be a gacha game, but without the motto of “put money in for your favorite boi.” You cannot pull from the gacha unless you’ve gotten to a certain level (I was thinking the tenth or so level). By that point, you should have enough in-game resources to pull at least ten times, if not more.

The odds for the pulls are going to be hokey in my explanation because I'm very bad at math, don't know shit about statistics, odds and rates. I'll just apologize if this makes no sense mathematically.

With the characters I have, I also wanted to give each of them a version of the different rarities. So, for four characters, that would be twelve cards for just a simple event.

Doing my backyard math, I figured if there's 12 cards and you have a chance of getting all of those cards repeatedly (12 as a cap) then the obtain rate should be higher since there's more for you to collect.

So👏 let’s say you pull a SR card. This one perhaps of Keigo.

Once you pull this card, you’re given a task to complete. The task/job/objective would be some menial task of a varying difficulty:

SR: Complete all (0/10 instead of 5/10) of your daily tasks

SSR: Get three stars, five times in any level

UR: Complete three levels at the highest difficulty with three stars.

Once these are completed, the card is yours and you’re able to use it in your regular sets adding to your overall skill level.

Of course, there would be some kinks I’d have to work out, but this is a basic concept just to explain what I would want to see.

Pretty much, I don’t like the idea of P2W games at all as I feel they suck the fun out of playing a game, which is to get better and learn the mechanics of the game, but if I can just pay for it, then what’s the point?

I do understand some people don’t want to work to get better at a game and would prefer to pay and move on, but that shouldn't be the foundation of the game.

Some of my many ideas for this game are purely based in thirst trapping, which I am a-ok falling into as long as the game is meant to be this way and is not doing this for female characters as there are plenty of wifu simulators and wifu collectors.

Those of us who like men wanna have fun too.

1st note

Something I desperately want in a game like this is an actual interesting story that integrates all the characters involved in the story. For any characters added, it'd almost be like League of Legends, Fortnite, Overwatch, Valorant, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Tekken, BIG etc… where after a story has come to an end, we have a new “season” with all new characters and their own story line.

The previous character’s story wouldn’t be abandoned until it’s actually concluded. I feel a “season” would be nearly two years worth of content with around five or so characters (give or take, I’m no developer).

2nd note

Another thing is the ability to have more than one interest. One problem I have with Obey Me is their fixation on a few characters. I often feel totally left out when Levi isn’t in an event because if I waste any amount of my resources on a card of Diavolo's, for example, I just can’t get a card for Levi unless I put real money in.

That’s not very fun and it also gets old quick.

3rd note

Events wouldn’t be just random dress up scenarios, but it would be a full fledged story (most likely lasting for a half a month or a full month) and give each of the characters three sets of SR, SSR, and UR cards, as I said before.

Usually Otome games assign characters to each level of card, but I would like to see the different rarities on all the characters, if possible. It would give me more reason to play the game rather than just getting my boi’s UR and dipping.

Okay, now onward to little things that don't really matter in the grand scheme of things. I also finally figured out the genre of game this would be and that's a social game.

I'll start with:

Cosmetics/Character customization

So, I'll start first with general cosmetics. I have a very strong itch to play a game where I can customize both my character and the house/room/plot of land they reside in without the game being either farm based, purely fashion based, typical gacha "wait 30 years or watch an ad", or just "anime" style with no other designs. Because of this, one of the first things I thought of was creating a separate mode where the players could customize a character to their liking, with their pronouns, and more than just "generic anime" hairstyles. There would obviously be generic anime hair styles, but there'd also be afro styles and other poc styles (I'd have to do some research on any other group outside of African though).

In the main mode, you wouldn't be able to chance the MC outside of her name. Her appearance would be locked kind of like Link or the Persona protags. Once you've played through a story and completed it with the MC, you'd be able to replay it as your customized character in the freeplay mode.

There would also be a place for the players to design their own apartment/house/plot of land (depending on what makes the most sense) and through the game's various mini-games, you'd be able to unlock items. Some items would be harder to get and would require playing a mini-game or going through some sequence properly to unlock something. We're going for replayability＼(＾▽＾)／

Since I was thinking for this game to be FtP, I had to come up with something to still make money, but make it accessible for everyone to get everything in the game. So, it made sense to have the paid options be simply to speed things up or get extra of something in case someone is lazy as hell and doesn't want to replay something. However, the option to play it normally isn't a slog either, it's just like playing any game normally vs. cheesing the the area.

Also, I wanted to add this little note but I didn't know where, but I also really wanted this game to be interesting for gaymers as well. I do have family who happen to fall under that category so I have a little--just a tiny bit--of knowledge when it comes to that.

In this case, the game wouldn't be to catered to physical things at all. Obey Me! does a pretty good job keeping the MC gender neutral, but it has its limits and I'm going to push them as hard as I can! (pause) Being who I am, I don't really fit into any category very well as I don't like most traditionally girl things and I'm uninterested in most guy things, so almost all the time my characters interact romantically in a way that you could use any pronoun and it would work. I don't like the term handsome and most certainly do not think the words "pretty" "cute" or "beautiful" only describe women. Usually, my descriptors are general and describe the way someone's appearance makes you feel (ex. if someone has pretty eyes I'll usually just say their eyes are captivating or they're easy to get lost in.)

Events

I wasn't exactly sure what this would be considering I don't want to become an Obey Me! with bi-weekly events that drain your resources, but I also didn't want to make events that had items locked behind their event period and once they were gone, they were gone. I also know apart of the fun with events is working really hard to get something special, so if it's available all the time it wouldn't be very much fun. So, my fix for this was to dog tag a page from Obey Me!

They have it where after six months(?) events come back and the players have free access to participate again for four days so long as they have a consumable. I still don't want it to be exactly like that, so the easiest solution is just to have events rollback when their original date passes (ex. if there's an event during April, then April the next year, the events returns for the same amount of time). Simple and effective.

As for the events themselves. I actually tend to write a holiday special for the bois every year so the usual New Year's, Christmas, Valentine's, Halloween, and Thanksgiving would be celebrated, but I've always wanted to incorporate many celebrations from various places. Things like Mardi Gras which is a celebration that's pretty centralized in one place. Obviously, that would mean some research, but I already have most of the characters having different backgrounds (Brayleigh is French, Jessica is half Japanese/French, Ankara has Pacific Islander in him, Terumichi is Korean, Amai is half Black/Japanese, and Shugi is whatever I need him to be lol) so it'd be pretty easy to use their backgrounds and try and incorporate some festivals, holidays, and other special occasions in here!

And of course, the events would have special outfits for the boys to be dressed in, don't worry. You have no idea that a kimono Aki, demon Akuma, beach Koto, and casual Ankara live rent free in my head.

CGs/character art

I say this a lot, but I'll say it again, I can't draw; however, if I ever did find someone to work with, I'd have a lot of character CGs and just so things can stay as inclusive as possible, their character art would be anywhere between just solo art of the character in question or art with a character insert (maybe like a hand or something)

side note: the only reason I'm not too into having a character insert is because it feels generic and like it's almost impossible to account of every position with a certain hair style or skin tone. I know some games have done it, but they more or less prove my point. In this case, I think less is more.

The CGs more looked like just beautiful art of the character from a scene or of them in a stylized outfit. Being able to have a gallery full of each one would be a dream~

Other/Misc.

There's not a lot more I wanted to add, but some small things would be to have a challenge mode for each of the mini-games and achievements for random things.

This is just a off the cuff thought, but it'd be cute to have the overworld city somehow have online multiplayer where people could chat with other people in the city or play solo (since I am more of a solo player anyways).

Competitions kind of rub me the wrong way, but it'd be nice to have some rankings for the mini-games

I guess I'll add this part to the first reblog: I didn't want the game to have bad endings because they usually just making the player feel like shit for having an opinion, so it made more sense to have it like Phoenix Wright where you're playing the story as the MC and to have a separate freeplay mode where character's choice would matter. It might be too ambitious, but having the freeplay mode have different endings sounds interesting.

A small ex. would be in one of the short stories, Cassie is sick and Akihiko comes over to take care of her. The players would then have the option to reject him and see a different route play out, almost like a what-if scenario.

But, for now, that's all the ideas I feel I can share. If I come up with anything else I'll add it, but like always...

Here again after my usual hiatus this time though it was because of real world shit, aka setting appointments to get my teeth removed yay but I wanted to post something.

So, just today (or yesterday it's 2am for me) I finished a page on my website about an idea I got about a game idea. This is pretty common for me, but I wanted to share it here in case anyone was interested :D

I was also considering making proofs of concepts about some of the mini-games I talked about and other collectables, but who know if I'll get around to that with all the other ideas I have in my head.

Genshin Impact Reverse Harem

A.N: I had seen this husbando ranking someone did as if they were in an Ancient Chinese harem. And that sparked something so THIS time, this is a Reverse Harem, SAGAU fanfic!!

You had come from different world where the game of Genshin Impact existed. You were also a Husbando collector, or rather you tried to be. As a complete F2P, you did have to budget, so you technically didn’t own all the husbando characters. 

But that didn’t mean they didn’t own your heart or that in your heart you considered them yours. 

Then you one day, you went to bed, normal as could be. When you next woke up, you were not in your own bed. You were in a plush bed, surrounded by the softest pillows you’d ever known, in silk sheets even (you’d realize this later). 

It decidedly was NOT your bed. 

But that wasn’t what held your attention at that moment. 

“You’re awake!! You’ve finally came to us!” 

You had awoken in Teyvat, surrounded by the very husbandos that owned your heart in your world. 

“We had been waiting for you!” 

You had your own Serenitea Teapot where you lived if you weren’t traveling Teyvat. But if that wasn’t surprising enough, you woke up to discover that the husbandos were, in fact, your very own harem. 

The harem is broken into sections. Rank in the harem was largely determined on who your heart connected with most. The higher the rank, the more of a connection you had with that husbando. 

And why this one and less of a connection with that one, you may ask? 

Who knows?.... 

1st Husband/Emperor 

Zhongli was the one that held the most connection to your heart. It made sense to your way of thinking.  He was the first 5 star that you got. The one that you spent all of your time trying to get. He was a rock, both in your party and in your heart. You spent hours listening to his voice: 

Why is it that, once you finally get a break, rather than taking a rest, you instead come to me? Is it that you want to hear one of my stories?

He was the first one that you saw when you woke up. Shock was an understatement. You thought maybe this was an elaborate prank and/or that he was very, VERY good at cosplay. 

He took your shock in stride, ushering out the others: “You will see her again later, but for now, you must give her some breathing room.”

Your eyes were wide as the group grumbled but filed out, promising to return later when you were feeling better. 

Zhongli returned to your side, cupping your cheek. His hand was warm to the touch. You jumped back at first, startled by having a grown man suddenly show such affections. 

“My apologies. I should heed my own advice and not rush you.” 

It took you a minute (ie several hours before you even felt safe enough to get out of bed much less come downstairs). And it took you several days longer to realize, this was real. You had fallen into Teyvat and you actually had a harem of husbandos. 

This was a legit fanfic come to life!! 

But you eventually settled in. You spent quite a great deal of time with Zhongli. Listening to his stories in person had a whole other effect. If you weren’t listening to his stories, you could sit quietly with him, drinking tea as you watched nature go by. 

Ahh, yes, your 1st husband made your heart quite calm. 

2nd Husband/Noble Consort

How long will this require, exactly?

Alhaitham was more surprised than you that, he was ranked so. He preferred not to socialize and not to invite any kind of extra trouble into his life. 

Based on my observations, many people inflict trouble upon themselves. Life already has enough hardships — no need to add to them.

You were exactly like this too. You loved that he wasn’t so noisy all the time. Both of you could be found sequestered away, either reading together or doing your own separate things. 

But the silence was not oppressive. 

Perhaps that’s why he became quite commendable to your company. When you did speak to each other, it was with a purpose. Neither of you liked small talk, and if you both had something to say to the other, then you said it. 

But the moment there was nothing to be said, then didn’t. Quite simple. 

Sometimes, one of the others would interrupt the silence between the two of you.  Your twin glares were enough to freeze a boar.  Thankfully, that didn’t happen very much. If either of you were needed, usually Zhongli could interject in a way that did not have him running for the hills. 

Although, he was technically head of the Consorts, he rarely interacted with the rest of them unless he needed to. 

Alhaitham guessed it wasn’t so bad. He was allowed his own quarters away from the general Consort area, but could usually be found in the library. 

On rare occasions you, Alhaitham and Zhongli could be found sharing the silence. And extremely rare times did the voices of Alhaitham and Zhongli carry a conversation that, whose combined voices often had the power to lull you to sleep. 

Even if you weren’t sleepy… 

Consorts 

Most of the husbandos fell into this category

Xiao was technically a consort, but he rarely lived among the consort area either. Even now, he was scared of his karma poisoning those around him. He was scared of poisoning you and generally preferred to maintaining a little bit of distance. However, he still expected you to call if him ran into any trouble. 

If you awake to a knife at your throat, if monsters dig their claws into you, if death comes knocking at your door, call out my name. Adeptus Xiao. I will be here when you call.

Most of the time, Xiao still preferred to act as a bodyguard to Zhongli. Not that he needed to, as the man could bring a mountain on someone’s head. But if Zhongli was around, look for a shadow and Xiao would probably be there. 

If there was a “leader” among the Consorts, it would be Cyno. He acted as a barometer of justice and would shut down any kind of tomfoolery. 

I'm Cyno, General Mahamatra of the Akademiya. It's my duty to uphold the rules, and punish wrongdoing. I will protect you on your journey.

He frequently had to monitor the Concubines, just because there were quite a bit of ruckus in that court. You did not appoint him so, but he took it upon himself. His stern constance was enough to make most come on the correct. 

Not that Tighnari or Diluc needed it. They were quite capable of monitoring themselves and acting accordingly. Tighnari managed a garden in your teapot, while Diluc could be found training. If for some reason Cyno’s constance wasn’t enough, with the combined force of Diluc and Cyno, not even the crystal flies would dare to flutter their wings loudly. 

Despite being a barometer of justice, Cyno was a big child when he was with you and those he trusted, namely Tighnari. The three of you would play TCG. 

Tighnari would blame you for Cyno’s jokes getting worse. Most of the time you laughed, not because the joke was funny but because Cyno was being so serious or more often than not the reactions he gets from those involved, namely Tighnari. 

You had to break up friendly fights between Tighnari and Cyno because of that. 

Kaeya and Venti were a bit more rambunctious of the Consorts. Both were ecstatic to see you, usually wanting to break out the wine. 

Um, only you didn’t like alcohol, just like Diluc. 

Kaeya only pouted: 

I can't believe that some people actually drink grape juice... If they had a little more patience, they would find that it ferments into the most exquisite wine. Hmph. So unromantic.

Yeah, you found remaining sober to be the height of romance, but whatever. Both you and Diluc could be found drinking grape juice. Sometimes you like to drink Almond Milk, if you wanted to be extra. 

Sure, I'll play you another tune, but it'll cost you an apple.

Venti was always bringing delicious apples to share with his Windblume. But you found him to be sneaky because in order to get him to play a tune on his lyre, he would want an apple as the cost.  At this point, you were sure, he was doing this on purpose. 

But on days, when you felt a little down, he could quietly pull out his lyre and strum a calming tune. Those days, mentions of apples were nowhere to be found. 

Most of the problem children were found in the Concubines court, but that didn’t mean that no one else had ever been punished from the Consort court. 

Both Kaeya and Venti’s drinking sometimes landed themselves punished, usually resorting to being locked in the Cold Palace for a period of time. There was this time when both of them with Kazuha….

Wait, we are getting ahead of ourselves… 

Concubines  

You were going to be honest, half of the concubines gave you a headache….. They had the least connection with your heart but wasn’t totally disconnected, landing themselves in this court. 

Problem Child #1- Saramouche/Wanderer:  His problem was the lack of trust in you. He was 95% attitude on a good day and would eye you as if he was going to betray him. On his bad days, he’s rant and rave about how he is the new god and that you should serve him, and not the other way around. 

To be fair, you didn't consider any of your husbandos to in “servitude” to you. No one was bound to do anything they didn't want to. Your hubandos frequently came and went from your Teapot when they got good and ready. 

But at those times, Scaramouche could not be reasoned with and usually landed himself in the Cold Palace because of that. However, most of the time Scaramouche didn’t visit as much as the others to begin with, so that might account for why he wasn’t practically living in the Cold Palace by now. 

But then he eventually became the Wanderer. As technically a Descender, since you were not of this world, you were the only one that remembered the fact that he was Scaramouche along with the Traveler. 

Wanderer wasn’t sure how he felt about that. He unexpectedly softened, but only for a brief moment before he returned to his usual snarky self. As Wanderer, he found himself visiting your Teapot quite a bit more than when he was Scaramouche, which annoyed him to no end. (His words, not yours.) 

As Scaramouche he was Concubine status, but perhaps, he would quickly rise to Consort status as Wanderer? Only time would tell. 

Problem Child #2- Childe: You admitted he could be charming….when he didn’t flip a switch and suddenly want to fight everyone. This habit of his landed him in the Cold Palace more often than not.  You sometimes wondered if it was a way to get your attention. 

There was one time he stormed the Consort court, looking for a fight. Cyno gave it to him and threw him in the Cold Palace. You only heard about it after the fact. 

At some point you wondered if that was considered a punishment because he would just use that time to train. 

Problem Child #3-Itto: You admitted he had a heart, but there were marbles missing from his jar and he had a stubbornness that often landed him in trouble. Once Childe wanted to fight, Itto was easy to goad into fighting him. They were pitting their strength against each other, going all out.  

Cyno was not having it! 

Itto usually got sent to the Cold Palace as punishment for not learning to stay out of things. But once in the Cold Palace, he’d laugh it off and began training as well. 

You weren’t sure if Childe or Itto would ever keep themselves off of punishment at this point. 

The good children of the Concubine Court were as follows: 

Thoma could cook his way into your heart and frequently cooked for everyone. Ayato impressed you with his grace and brains. Kazuha was soft-spoken, often greeting you with haikus when you saw each other. The three of them barely gave the harem any trouble. 

But there was that time that Kaeya and Venti got Kazuha drunk. After getting drunk, Kazhua somehow managed to find you and cling to you just before he fell asleep. Kaeya and Venti were punished with time in the Cold Palace (after they sobered up–they needed to realize they were on punishment) and while you were willing to let Kazhua slid…..

Kazuha would not let himself off the hook. He was so embarrassed by his conduct that he couldn’t look you in the eyes for weeks. He locked his own self up in the Cold Palace to reflect on his mistakes. 

But despite the range in personalities, you quite enjoyed spending time with everyone. 

You still thought this was a fanfic come to life though…
