I just wanted to say the other night I had a dream where I asked you to write a fic where the bad batch where a rock band instead😭 and instead of you writing it you took me to one of their concerts😭 it was a very weird but fun dream lol
😅😂 Sounds like something I would actually do! If I could, that is.
A rock band, huh? A short look into this, shall we?
The Bad Batch As A Rock Band - HC's
Wrecker is definitely on the drums! Not only because he has enormous stamina and can pound the drum set for an eternity, but because he actually has a first-class sense of rhythm. But not when he has to dance or sing.
Tech is at the keyboard, one of those with multiple tiers to make multiple sound combinations at once. He always comes up with new ideas for melodies and sounds. (Although Tech is much prettier, I still had to think of Rammstein's keyboard guy here. And yes, I like Rammstein.)
Crosshair is the melancholy, gloomy looking guy on the bass. He doesn't like to be in the focus on stage, but he knows exactly, his contribution is not to be omitted at all in this kind of music. Without him, something very essential in this combination would be missing.
Hunter is responsible for the vocals and hits the strings of the electric guitar. His voice is supported by Tech's slightly higher pitch in the background.
Echo is the organizational brain behind every gig. Apart from making sure that the conditions for his brothers are always fair and safe, he makes sure that the guys don't let themselves go too much, and he has written some of their best and most profound songs. One of them is an acoustic version sung by himself and accompanied by Hunter and Crosshair on acoustic guitars.
Omega is mascot, motivator and voice of reason at Echo's side. She often helps her big brother to keep the rest of the gang on the ground. She can also play the violin and does it pretty well, one or the other song has already been spiced up and refined by it.

Au and Characters by: @JKnerd
Description by: Theywhoshallnotbenamedthings
Basic Description: These girls are basically Embrose’s Right hand women. Loyal to him to a fault ever since he found them in the ghost zone, taking them under his wing. Their names are Lunera(Green hair)…Briar(Pink hair) and Dawn(Smol one).
They were once in the land of the living, trying to make it big in the world by becoming a band…A damn shame they died due to poor stage prep. Til this day they don’t realize it was done purposely, Someone was jealous…Someone wanted them DEAD. All they know is that their lives were cut short…and that pissed them off enough to become spirits…with a bond so unbreakable that if you tried to separate them, there would be hell to pay.
Lunera:
Title:..Leader…
Age:..Appears 19
Likes: Music, Calm atmospheres, Her ‘Sisters’,Embrose, Playing the bass, and Singing
Dislikes: Dawn and Briar causing chaos,Unnecessary situations,Danni(to a certain extent), Authority,Rabid fans
Friends/ Allies: Embrose,Lunera,Dawn,Jenny 13, Kit,Shelley and Dove
Enemies: Danni Phantom(sometimes) Ghost hunters, Walker
Description:..True to her title she takes care of her girls and her Boss. She’s a no nonsense individual who takes things a bit too seriously at times. That being said she’s a secret softie when it comes to her friends. She especially worries about Embrose’s feelings toward Danni,a feeling of disdain occurs when the Halfa rejects him.And much to her annoyance she often has to keep her ‘sisters’ from causing too much trouble along with her boss. She plays the bass guitar.
Briar:
Title: Second in Command
Age: Appears 19
Likes: Music, , Her ‘Sisters’,Embrose, Playing the Keyboard , Dove, Pranks, and Singing
Dislikes: Danni(to a certain extent), Authority, Rabid Fans
Friends/ Allies: Embrose,Lunera,Dawn,Jenny 13, Kit,Shelley and Dove(crush/Love interest)
Enemies: Danni Phantom(sometimes) Ghost hunters, Walker
Description: She is said to be the quietest of the group, rarely uttering any words unless she deems a situation important. But believe it or not she is quite the prankster getting into all sorts of mischief with Dawn, much to Briar’s annoyance. She is quite confident as well but that confidence disappears when a certain Dove crosses her path. Another thing is she too does not appreciate when Danni disregards Embrose’s feelings. She plays the keyboard.
Dawn:
Title:Designated Troublemaker
Age: Appears 17
Likes: Music, CHAOS, Her ‘Sisters’,Embrose, Playing the Drums, and Singing, Pranks,Manipulation
Dislikes: ,Danni(to a certain extent), Authority
Friends/ Allies: Embrose,Briar,Lunera,Jenny 13, Kit,Shelley and Dove
Enemies: Danni Phantom(sometimes) Ghost hunters, Walker
Description: She’s the baby of the group and the peacemaker when things go awry. A natural born chaotic individual who doesn’t give a damn about authority, she often can be seen roping Briar into her so called ‘pranks’,which consist of some individuals be traumatized or injured beyond mortal comprehension. That being said she is rather bubbly and always attempts to help her ‘Boss’ gain the affections of Danni, those attempts either hit the mark or fail entirely. She plays the drums.
All together the girls often act as Background vocalists as
well due to them having almost siren like voices like Embrose.

What about high spirit
Okay so it's basically a story set in a world in which long ago magic was everywhere, but over time it faded, until one of the last magic endowed people, a High Spirit, created many instruments and enchanted them with the last remaining magic, sealed them away across the land, and then passed away.
Nowadays, society is this weird mix of different sort of styles in different lands, so, for instance, there's this big desert with a steampunk sort of ab aesthetic.
Now, there is exactly one magic user left, a High Spirit who was cast out for her greed, and cursed with immortality so that she could watch everyone around her perish while she lived on forever.
Sick of living in the shadows, she claims the enchanted violin, puts the last of her own magic into it, making it far stronger, and goes on to take a huge bit of land from one of the kingdoms.
She puts the people of this land under a form of mind control with the violin, forcing them to do her bidding.
Now, nearby, a wedding is being held, when all this happens.
One of the musicians playing for the occasional has an ordinary instrument, but also the pair of magic drumsticks, although the magic part is unknown to him. This is Missy Andrews.
When the Outcast High Spirit, who I haven't named yet, plays her music, everyone at the wedding is caught under the spell, except for Missy as he holds and is connected to the drumsticks, which keep him from being affected.
He runs as far as he can, then hitch hikes back to his home town, where he meets with some old friends from school: Shannon Meek (she/it) and Mannie Pauler (she/her).
He tells them what happened, and they get understandably really worried. That is when Mannie, who is the one with the magic guitar, points out that Missy was at the wedding but wasn't mind controlled like everyone else, and if someone did that, they might just come after him to ensure no witnesses.
Shannon, who has the magic mic, suggests that the three of them bunker down in its father's place, as the guy is one of them Apocalypse Preps or whatever they're called, and Missy and Mannie agree.
(Also, side note, Shannon and Mannie are aware of their instruments magic, but neither knows about the other's instrument's magic, if that makes sense??)
So meanwhile the Outcast High Spirit is absolutely furious, because despite her violin's power, she knows a band of magic instrument wielders could absolutely ruin her plan.
After plotting for a small moment, she decides to hire one of the best bounty hunters in the land, this being Aster Gaer, who, unbeknownst to the Outcast High Spirit, has the magic bass guitar.
The plan is to promise to pay him wisely, because she doesn't know squat about bounty hunting so controlling him and telling him what to do with the violin is out of the question, but she does know that you can just buy the services of people in that line of work, and most of the ones she's heard of will do anything for the right price.
The thing is. She isn't actually going to pay him. When he either eliminates the threat or brings the threat back to her to deal with, she plans to take him under control.
So he sets out after Missy.
However, a very long way away, in one of the largest and richest kingdoms, the only child of the king and heir to the throne discovers a hidden cavern, with the magic piano/keyboard within. This heir is Spot Allain (they/them) who will, like Aster, join Missy, Shannon, and Mannie very soon.

OC Questionnaire
I was tagged by @actualanxiousswampwitch and not so much tagged as challenged by @queen-scribbles :P
I am tagging/challenging you both back if you have more OCs you want to talk about, plus anyone else who has an OC you want to talk about! really, I want to know about your muses, please share them with me <3
I decided to go with Lexi from Mind Blind because she’s currently my most vocal muse, as well as Ari because I realized I’ve never done one of these for her? not sure how that happened
Lexi Wiseman
GENERAL
name: Alexandria Jane Wiseman
alias(es): Lexi, Lex, Button, Cadet Wiseman
gender: cis female
age: 20
place of birth: Chicago, Illinois
spoken languages: English, sarcasm, probably some coding language? took Spanish and German in high school, but really only remembers how to count to ten and ask where the library is
sexual orientation: bi bi bi
occupation: student at Unity’s Aeon Academy
APPEARANCE
eye colour: hazel
hair colour: brown
height: 5′8”
scars: not any major ones? She scars really easy, so even little things like paper cuts leave a scar, but except for things like that and old scars from scraped knees and elbows as a kid, Lexi doesn’t really have any scars worth mentioning. (or as Lex would say, “my scars are all mental ;)”)
burns: not really many burn scars either. a small and perfectly circular one on the inside of her right ring finger (accidentally bumped into the lit end of a cigarette), a faded line on her right calf from grazing the exhaust pipe of a motorcycle, but that’s really it
overweight: No
underweight: No
FAVOURITE
colour: green, especially darker ones like hunter green or forest green
music genre: loves music, all kinds. most of the covers she does are older pop songs, the songs that have made it into the collective consciousness, but she will listen to or sing anything :)
movie genre: action. loves a superhero movie and not afraid to admit it.
tv show: don’t think she’s much of a tv person. more likely listens to podcasts or watches twitch streams/youtube shows. I feel like she’d be a big Buzzfeed Unsolved fan. occasionally enjoys a cooking competition show like Chopped or Iron Chef, something you can enjoy without having to commit to it. Watches them with Nick because his commentary is the best part.
pastime: music (plays guitar and piano/keyboard, and knows her way around a sampler/MIDI controller), video games (especially fps, co-op or team-based online games preferred)
food: anything Nick cooks, but especially cinnamon pumpkin cookies
drink: cherry coke, sweet iced tea, iced white mocha
book: she’s not a really big reader (not that she doesn’t enjoy it, she just has other ways she’d rather spend her time), but she’ll read just about anything on the occasion she has time to. adventure, romance, mystery, poetry, whatever. really enjoys sci-fi especially, and comic books!
HAVE THEY
passed university: she didn’t go to college per se, since Aeon isn’t technically a college so much as a very particular and multi-year job training course, but she took a few courses at the local community college. Computer programming, music theory, whatever struck her fancy. Probably found something weird that she’ll never need in real life just for the hell of it.
had sex: no
had sex in public: no
gotten pregnant: no
kissed a boy: yes
kissed a girl: yes
gotten tattoos: no, but she wants one. eventually. once she settles on a design
had a broken heart: sure, in lots of different ways. the situation with her mom could certainly be considered heart-breaking...
been in love: she would deny it if you asked her, but yes. Very yes.
stayed up for longer than 24 hours: sure, yeah, why not? sleep is overrated anyway
ARE THEY
a virgin: yes. look, when you live with your brother who is a mind-reader and you have literally no way to stop loudly projecting your thoughts, sex is a tricky and awkward situation. better to just avoid it until someone comes along that’s worth it.
a cuddler: yes, very much so. Maybe a little touch-starved, despite Nick and Sally’s efforts. Someone please give her a hug.
a kisser: sometimes
scared easily: startles easily, but doesn’t actually frighten easily
jealous easily: not really. envy, on the other hand...
trustworthy: yes, but she’ll be the first to tell you not to tell her any secrets. She can’t promise what people can hear from her thoughts
dominant: not really. Can be assertive, but prefers to kind of go with the flow
submissive: not really submissive either, though maybe leans more toward it than toward dominant
in love: with her brother’s best friend. Has been for years now, expects she will be for the foreseeable future. She accepts that she will spend her life pining from afar. It’s not like Gray could ever feel the same, right?
single: yep
RANDOM QUESTIONS
have they harmed themselves: nope
thought of suicide: I don’t think so
attempted suicide: no
Wanted to kill someone: no
rode a horse: nope
have / had a job: her situation makes it a little difficult to work normal jobs. I would imagine she makes money through patreon with her music, and she will eventually have a job at Unity as a MIV, once she finishes at Aeon
have any fears: loss of control (again), not being good enough, abandonment, rejection (specifically being rejected for things she can’t change; she’s fine if people don’t like her for her personality, some people just have bad taste)
FAMILY
sibling(s): older brother Nick, relationship status: besties against all odds
Parents: John and Hope Wiseman, relationship status: fucking complicated
children: none, she is baby
pets: none
---
Aurienne the Sparrow
GENERAL
name: Aurienne the Sparrow. She had a last name once, but she doesn’t remember it.
alias(es): Ari, Little Bird, The Sparrow Queen
gender: nonbinary female/demigirl
age: 23
place of birth: Andoran, she assumes. It’s the first place she remembers living, at the very least.
spoken languages: Common, Elvish, a little Celestial thanks to her sister
sexual orientation: bisexual
occupation: Queen of the Stolen Lands, somehow
APPEARANCE
eye colour: light gray
hair colour: black
height: 5′10”
scars: a thin but deep and ragged scar across her throat that she normally keeps covered by a scarf or choker or high collar; arrow puncture in her left shoulder; long line on her inner right thigh from a greatsword that almost cut her leg off entirely; a few other minor ones
burns: a few on her fingertips from accidents with her flaming crossbow
overweight: No
underweight: No
FAVOURITE

music genre: punk and all its subgenres :)
movie genre: she loves a musical, all musicals
tv show: dramas and monster of the week shows. wants a tv show that’ll make her cry

food: samosas, lemon macarons
drink: matcha latte with white chocolate syrup
book: has a deep and unending love of poetry
HAVE THEY
passed university: nope, didn’t go to school
had sex: yes
had sex in public: …...perhaps
gotten pregnant: nope
kissed a boy: yes
kissed a girl: yes

had a broken heart: yes
been in love: yes
stayed up for longer than 24 hours: yes, but rarely
ARE THEY
a virgin: nope
a cuddler: sort of? I think she wants to be, but is scared to let herself be vulnerable like that. Will happily cuddle with anyone who initiates, though
a kisser: not really, unless she’s in a mood
scared easily: yes, but hides it well
jealous easily: nope
trustworthy: very
dominant: not really. Prefers to let others take the reins (probably not the best trait for a queen, but as she is quick to tell people, being in charge was never her idea)
submissive: most of the time. Probably a big part of why she and Tristian took so long to get together...
in love: yes, with a literal angel
single: she’s not sure??? like, they haven’t really made anything official yet, but no one would ever look at the two of them together and not think they’re a couple. they should probably have a talk about that soon
RANDOM QUESTIONS
have they harmed themselves: no
thought of suicide: yes
attempted suicide: no
Wanted to kill someone: yes
rode a horse: yes
have / had a job: former mercenary/adventurer, former baroness, currently queen of the Stolen Lands? She’s still not entirely sure how that happened
have any fears: helplessness, losing those she loves, being silenced (again)
FAMILY
sibling(s): twin sister, Auriel the Dove
parents: both deceased (I should probably name them at some point…)
children: none. Maybe someday...
pets: an owlcat named Headchomper, a red panda named Ember, an orange tabby cat named Tiger, a giant black wolf named Baron who is technically her sister’s animal companion and also technically her nephew
#lexi wiseman#aurienne the sparrow#anytime I make lexi in a picrew I put a jacket or overshirt or hoodie on her that she definitely stole#and ari is just black tank top + scarf every time#almost gave lexi a cat but I'm not entirely sure if she and nick are cat people. but like? it's in my head now. it has a name and everything#we'll see

Nomad of Nowhere Modern+Twins AU Notes/Ideas
Can y’all tell I got bored and can’t stop thinking about this sort of AU? Prepare for some serious bullshit. (Putting this under a cut because I’m merciful)
((El Rey is gonna be called Adrian in this AU, as I saw someone on Tumblr (emery-night) suggest it as a possible name awhile back, and since one of my brother's middle names is Adrian, I had to.))
Benjamin, Annabeth, and Adrian are all polyam, but they're not exactly the most “picture perfect” polyam relationship; they all tend to argue quite a bit, but at the end of the day, they all still care very deeply for each other.
Ben and Adrian went to college together, and were roommates through all four years they went; they started dating/hooking up about halfway through freshman year.
Annabeth: Oh my god, they were roommates.
After their fourth year of college ended, Adrian had to go back home to run his father's business, which meant he couldn't date Ben anymore, as his dad was extremely homophobic. Ben was heartbroken, but understood that Adrian didn't want to end things either, so he accepted it and moved on with his life, making sure to keep in touch with Adrian through social media and by calling/texting him every so often.
About two years later, Benjamin ran into Annabeth for the first time. Anna was working on her family's farm at the time, but once she fell for the city boy, she packed her bags and ran off to start a new life with him.
They had the twins within their first year of marriage, which was… chaotic, to say the fucking least. Thankfully they managed well enough, but it was still somewhat of an ordeal to get through together. ((Thankfully in this AU, Ben isn’t running from any bounty hunters/his ex, so he doesn’t ever lash out at Anna and lose her.))
Nearly five years after the twins were born, Adrian just kinda… showed up on their doorstep, looking frazzled and freaked the fuck out. They of course let him come inside, and after finding out that he had been cut off upon his father discovering he was gay, the couple let him stay with them from then on.
Pretty soon, the trio was officially polyam, both Adrian and Anna dating Ben, but not each other. They’re both really good friends, though! Ben loves his husband and wife so fucking much.
Since he grew up in such a privileged environment, Adrian really struggles with getting used to living like his partners (they aren’t necessarily poor, but they aren’t rich either), but he settles soon enough into working at an office building, where he constantly is climbing the corporate ladder and becoming quite the businessman.
Annabeth settled really quickly into her job as an architect, and works on designing houses in an office building about an hour away from the family house (which she and Ben built together right before they got married, adding another floor after Adrian moved in with them).
Benjamin, surprisingly enough, is a stay at home dad, and after all the kids reach school age, he starts doing part-time handyman jobs around town. Primarily though, he's still mostly a stay at home dad, and does a lot of the housework.
Adrian can't cook for S H I T. He set the oven in his and Ben's dorm on fire no less than three times, and also accidentally blew up the microwave at one point. After he moves in, Ben is quick to ban him from any sort of cooking; Adrian doesn't even bother arguing with him over it.
Anna can cook a little. She's usually pretty tuckered out after work, so she rarely cooks dinner, but when she does it's a stew that's fucking incredible.
Ben is a monster in the kitchen, having learned how to cook at a very young age, and he takes great pride in cooking nice meals for the family almost every night.
Both Ben and Anna were really worried the twins wouldn’t like Adrian, but he gets along with them really well, especially since he came into their lives so really early on; when they’re about seven, Skout asks who Adrian is to her parents, and after being told he’s in love with Pappy and best friends with Mama, she starts referring to Adrian as Daddy/Dad, Hunter doing the same through sign language/writing note to him. Adrian cries from happiness.
Also, because I love her, and because I honestly think Ben would never obey the “have as few kids as possible” rule most wizard's follow in the Twins AU, when the twins are about six or seven, their parents have another kid; a little girl they name Melinda.
(Truth be told, Ben and El Rey aren't 100% certain who fathered her, but they always say it was the other guy who did it. Anna doesn't really care, so long as they both treat her youngest daughter well, which they of course do!)
Melinda is a bit of a terror as a young child, and is constantly pestering her older siblings. Skout and her get along better once Skout hits high school age (before then, they argue constantly), but before that Hunter and Melinda are super close. After Melinda hits 13-14 though, they don’t quite have a “falling out”, but she gets her own friends at school and doesn’t want to hang out with Hunter as much anymore; this devastates Hunter, but he’s so freaking glad she has friends that he’s never going to tell her that.
Okay, onto the twins:
Hunter and Skout are practically glued to the fucking hip all throughout their early childhood; Hunter follows his sister around because no one wants to try communicating with the mute kid, and Skout loves hanging out with her brother despite other kids being weirded out by him.
Skout used to be a total tomboy/rebel as a preteen. Seriously, she was constantly in and out of the principal's office, mainly because she got into fights protecting her bro.
By the time Toth moves to town at the very start of 9th grade and meets her, Skout is almost a completely different person by then, having gotten more invested in reading/school than getting into fights.
The first time Toth sees some ex-bullies from Skout's middle school run for their lives upon seeing who Toth thought was just a sweet, innocent redhead who loves reading, Toth knows she's in love.
Toth does NOT like Hunter at first, mostly because the first time she met him, he refused to let her borrow a pencil and she took that to mean he was an asshole; truth is, he only had the one, but had trouble communicating that to her at the time, resulting in her not quite “bullying” him, but… okay, she bullied him, but after getting with Skout, she lays off and even apologizes to him for being so mean.
Toth and Hunter eventually start getting along after Toth and Skout get together, but Hunter definitely teases/messes with her on occasion because he thinks it's funny. Toth is mostly neutral to this and figures it's justified payback for how she used to treat him.
Where Skout has Toth as a friend at school (and I guess that total asshole “Red Manuel” or whatever the fuck he’s calling himself who constantly pesters them both), Hunter is friends with a trio of kids nicknamed “The Three Amigos.”
The three amigos (Null, Santi, and Jethro) have all known each other since kindergarten. Null got to go to school early due to his intelligence (the kid is insanely fucking smart), while Jethro and Santi are the same age, and they all became friends because their moms all know each other and made them hang out a lot as young kids.
The school's mascot is the “Dandy Lion” and Red Manuel is the dumbass who agreed to wear the suit for school events. He thinks it makes him a celebrity; it definitely doesn't.
Omg, I almost fucking forgot about Don Paragon.
Don Paragon considers himself to be a theatre star of some kind, because he literally only got the lead part once in a middle school play, and he has yet to stop bragging about it.
Don's also a huge fucking bully, and has been harassing both Hunter and Skout since elementary school; he's actually one of the people Skout beat the crap out of back when she didn’t care about holding back, so he low-key fears her, but he'll pick on Hunter whenever he can catch him alone; luckily, Hunter doesn't end up alone very often, thanks to the three amigos, as well as Toth shadowing him when Skout asks her to keep an eye on Hunter in order to keep him safe.
(On another note, about halfway through high school, Don Paragon challenges Hunter to a fight after school, and of course everyone comes out to see this shit. Don shows up first with a switchblade, and everyone’s scared he’s gonna fuck Hunter up, but then Hunter shows up with a fucking pitchfork. Needless to say, Don backed down and Hunter was now known as “the guy who brought a pitchfork to a knife fight” instead of just being the mute kid.)
Hunter and the three amigos are considered to be outcast's at school, but none of them are particularly bothered by this; they all can often be found chilling together during lunch, passing around a notebook so Hunter can talk to them easier. By senior year, the three amigos have all fully learned sign language, which they use not only to talk with Hunter, but get away with joking around in class with each other.
Before then though, Null was the only one who knew sign language, and became friends with Hunter first. Through this, Null invited Hunter to their friend group, but despite them all obviously being friends, other kids at school still mostly referred to them as “The Three Amigos + Hunter”; this annoys Null to no end, but Hunter swears he doesn't mind (he does, but he’ll never admit it).
The four of them eventually form a band that plays primarily at school dances and weekend parties. The band was almost called The Three Amigos, but Null insisted they name themselves something else in order to include Hunter. Santi came up with calling themselves “The Nomads of Nowhere”, which sticks. Hunter plays guitar (Adrian taught him how), Jethro plays keyboard, Santi plays drums, and Null sings.
Hunter is constantly being followed by animals of some kind, so instead of creating Critters, he attracts animals to himself (mainly stray cats, which he feeds daily).
The family has a few pets of their own: a black cat named Nomad (Hunter's therapy cat), a brown tabby cat named Critter (Ben found it as a kitten and gave it to Skout when Hunter got his cat), and a black Labrador named El Rey (Adrian's dog that he's had since he was a young teenager… no one knows how it's still alive, not even Adrian).
Post-high school headcanons for everyone:
After the twins graduate, Skout goes to a university in their state with Toth, who she's still dating. Hunter, in the meantime, goes to community college for awhile, and still lives at home, later moving out to live with the three amigos.
Toth proposes to Skout during their sophomore year, but they don't officially get married until after they both graduate. Everyone in Skout’s family sobs (Melinda’s her maid of honor) and Toth’s family is also cheering like mad. The after party is more or less a fucking rave, and the cops almost get called because they’re all so goddamn loud.
Skout becomes a biologist, but still constantly visits the library she worked at in college. Her specialty lies in forest preservation, and later on she starts working in a national park.
Toth becomes a historian, specializing in old weapons and war strategy. She also has a degree in psychology, but she doesn’t really do much with it tbh (other than mess with Red, who after getting his act together, becomes one of her closest friends).
Hunter becomes a musician, and as a side gig works as a sort of “cat whisperer” to make extra money and tell people they’re dumbasses who shouldn’t own cats.
The Nomads of Nowhere actually stick together for a long time after high school, and become a semi-popular indie band. After a few years though, they disband so Jethro and Santi can do their own things, so Hunter and Null form a two-man band called “The Dreaded Nomads.” After that, their music gets a lot more popular, but they’re still considered indie.
Oh yeah, almost forgot; Hunter and Null started dating in secret early on in high school. They mostly kept it a secret because they were both self-conscious about being judged by their peers, but they came out by going to their junior homecoming dance together. Everyone (except Skout and Melinda, who Hunter had already told) were surprised, but of course Hunter’s parents were all supportive. Null’s folks were… not, but at least he then got the chance to live with Santi’s family!
After high school, Hunter and Null are still going strong, and while neither of them are really comfortable with getting officially married for personal reasons, they plan on staying together for the rest of their lives. Also after high school, Null’s still no contact with his family for the most part (save for his mom), but Hunter’s family accepts him with open arms!
Santi and Jethro were dating since fucking middle school, and literally no one is surprised when they get hitched the day after graduation; if they have a kid and they’re a boy, they’re naming him Null Jr and Null will be secretly touched but act mad.
That’s all I’ve got for now! I might add more later, but feel free to add your own headcanons/ideas if you’d like to!

This Week’s Playlist (2/14)
Not sure how I got hooked on this idea- but this week I’ll be focusing entirely on 70s songs (and next week I’ll do 80s). Disclaimer: I’m not saying these are my favorite songs of the 70s (believe me that would be WAYYY too hard to narrow down), I’m just filling this week’s list strictly with songs released in the 70s.
I’ve also created a spotify playlist made up of all the songs I’ve used on playlists! I’ll update it every week (before I even post the playlist, so if you check at the right time the songs will be there!)
1.) London Calling- The Clash (1979) I like to define this song as the song that started my descent into classic rock. When I was in 7th grade I had this music teacher who would always play pop music of the late 20th century for class. This song was one of the first songs she showed us, and it became a trademark of the class. We used to get this song played at dances and stuff- so there’s a lot of middle school memory there. Guess we all wanted to be punks- and this is a great boppy song just for that.
2.) All Right Now- Free (1970) Am I being typical for picking this song...? Perhaps (because honestly, at least where I’m from, this is the only Free song anyone knows... yikes. It’s overused in media sometimes imo). But that doesn’t meant it’s not great! It’s got everything! An epic guitar riff that frames the lyrics, a sick beat, funny rhymes, a killer musical interlude with bangin piano and a guitar solo- all while being undeniably CHILL. This one of those chill summer songs to me; the kind you listen to on a hot, quiet, and sunny car ride through the country with the windows down while wearing sunglasses. That’s just the aesthetic I’ve always associated with this song.
3.) Rock’n Me- Steve Miller Band (1976) Just try not to bop. I dare you. This is a real dance-a-little-in-your-seat song with a GREAT, smooth flow to it. Killer rhymes and a fast, subtle beat you can’t avoid even if you try. Steve Miller Band is one of my favorite groups of the 70s and I wish they got more appreciation in general. I could’ve picked so many of their songs already for these playlists, but this one stood out to me this week because I feel like it’s very recognizable (I always heard this song as a kid and I feel like maybe some people on here did too). It’s so damn catchy that it’ll just stick with you, so listen and get ready for an earworm. Also a great road trip song.
4.) Once Bitten, Twice Shy- Ian Hunter (1975) No, this isn’t Great White!! This is the song we all know and love but this one’s the original! I feel like I need to educate anyone who’ll listen about this! *scoff* god, now I can see why Joe Elliott’s always shoving Ian Hunter in everyone’s faces- because he’s worth it! Maybe I’m a little biased, but I personally prefer this version over Great White’s for a bunch of different reasons. For one thing, I think this version focuses more on telling the story rather than trying to make the music over the top. The instrumentals of this one ROCK, but the way it’s constructed with the lyrics makes the story more understandable- essentially, it’s just more raw, and I like the raw sound to it, but that’s just me. You all probably know how the song goes at this point, but after listening to this version you’ll see just how much of it Great White changed. You take it upon yourself to decipher the meaning of the lyrics ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) I think we all know what “rock and roll” means at this point...
5.) Lovin’, Touchin’, Squeezin’- Journey (1979) I don’t like to acknowledge Valentine’s Day, nor was I going to mention it in any way on this playlist- but let me tell you a story: last year on VD, I was driving home from school, and this song came on the radio. Then it hit me- I had completely forgotten about ANTI-Valentine’s Day songs! This is a PERFECT example of one. It tells of an unfaithful someone who gets bitten in the ass by someone else’s unfaithfulness. Talk about a SICK burn! This has gotta be my favorite Journey song as well. It’s like a flash-fiction song; telling a huge story while barely saying anything at all. My favorite part of this song by far is how each instrument has a crystal clear part, and you can very easily pick out each one. The intro of this song is just excellent. You can clearly hear the bass, drums, guitars, and piano all introduced in different ways. It’s just a gorgeous song through and through, and those 189 “na”s at the end just tie it all together (and yes, I counted). You’ll have all the words down before you know it.
6.) You’re All I’ve Got Tonight- The Cars (1978) Like I said last week, The Cars are one of the perfect combos of rock and pop. If you think about it, this one can be another anti-Valentine’s Day song. The lyrics have a sloppy and desperate feel to them- kinda like the speaker is drunk and throwing themselves at someone because they’re that desperate. “I don’t care if you hurt me some more, I don’t care if you even the score”- like oof man, you just sound desperate. This song is a banger in every way and let’s face it- the keyboard at the chorus is just the absolute best part. Strong points for these guys are always keyboards and guitars. It’s got this rock hard chill 80s vibe to it (despite it being a 70s song- new wave, you know), you’ll feel that you need to be doing something cool while listening to it.
7.) Rock and Roll- Led Zeppelin (1971) It’s so cliche of me to use this I know I know I KNOW- but can you blame me? On Sunday in a record booth at the market I found an original Zeppelin IV and I feel like this song has been following me all week because of it. This is unarguably one the most recognizable and famous rock songs of all time- because it was so expertly crafted in every way imaginable- just like everything else Zeppelin’s ever done. It’s ALWAYS the drums that do it for me in this song. l That filler at the end is- without question- the best part of the whole song. Bonzo just KILLS it. Overall, it’s a short-ish song that uses its time extremely well; it’s like all four of them went “let’s maximize every single element that goes into a bop, and make a song like that”. In some ways, this song is objectively perfect. If you want pure rock and roll in all its glory- what better song to choose than Rock and Roll itself?
8.) Keep Yourself Alive- Queen (1973) Another objectively perfect rock and roll song with a killer drum solo. I’m super biased towards Queen- but I cannot believe I never heard of this song until I was prepping my brain to see Bohemian Rhapsody! Honestly, who thinks it’s okay to keep this hidden? It’s the leading song off of their very first album- so this is almost like the song that INVENTED Queen fans! It’s a Brian May baby- and hell yeah does it show. I think everyone needs to know this song for artistic and historical reasons. It’s pure, power rock Queen through and through- despite being one of the earliest of their songs.
9.) Cum On Feel the Noize- Slade (1973) NO, it’s not Quiet Riot!! This is the song we all know and love but this one’s the original!! Again, I feel like I need to educate anyone who’ll listen about this! I get so angry sometimes that Quiet Riot gets all the credit for songs like this one and Mama Weer All Crazee now. Slade was super popular in England in the 70s- ahead of their time for sure but definitely one with the glam rock movement- but not as big in America. I never knew these guys existed until about five years ago and damn I felt like I had to be blind before learning that. Just listen to this song and then I think the sound of it’ll make a lot more sense, like “oh yeah- Quiet Riot’s version kinda DOES sound like it could be a glam rock song from the early 70s!” Just goes to show what geniuses these guys were, because their songs can be both glam rock AND heavy metal and work either way. Once you hear this version, though, I believe there’s no going back.
10.) Roll With the Changes- REO Speedwagon (1978) This was my favorite song for a few months when I was 16- it’s absolutely EPIC. The speaker is bursting at the seams with accepting a new found moral understanding of how they feel about trying to please or win over an apparent lover. They come to the conclusion that the other person just needs to keep on “rolling with the changes” and that they’ll be there for them whenever they decide to accept that perspective. The KEYBOARD is to D I E F O R GUYS. Neal Doughty is a motherfucking SAINT- and SO IS GARY RICHRATH. This song sounds like it’s the finale of a musical or something! Possibly the biggest bop REO has ever created. It’s a groovy, extremely poetic, fast, theatrical, very slightly operatic rock and roll song and I’d highly recommend this to any person on the planet I love it that much. It’s lovable in every possible way.

concept: hxh band au
the hunter association is this universe’s version of the worldwide independent network. all hunters are involved in music to some capacity, though their role varies. but not all people involved in music are hunters.
anyone who uses nen in the series proper has musical talent in this.
leorio and melody are co-managers. leorio takes care of scheduling, venues, costs, et cetera. melody helps out with the music. she makes sure everything is perfect but she’s so nice about it that no one can get frustrated with her.
they may or may not join in on songs occasionally. melody of course plays a lovely flute and leorio makes a surprisingly good backup vocalist.
gon plays the drums and he gets really twitchy during parts where he’s not playing. audiences think he’s adorable.
killua is on guitar. acoustic? electric? doesn’t matter. killua’s on it.
alluka and nanika are twins. alluka is on keyboard and nanika uses a synthesizer.
kurapika’s the vocalist. he claims that there’s nothing he can’t do with his voice as long as he has a certain pair of red earrings that he always wears. from what he’s demonstrated in performances, he’s right.
people who have been fans for a while say that he used to have a matching necklace. no one knows where that is though.
they perform hyori ittai. nanika gets really pumped up about it and focuses really hard on that one note between the first verse and the chorus. she wants it to be exactly on time. it is. she beams. the crowd goes wild.
kalluto gets roped into playing violin. they’re very nervous about it, especially during the bits where they’re the only one playing, but they do wonderfully and everyone loves them. after that they’re an official member of the band.
the zoldycks are another band; killua dropped out a while back because their music was too dark for him and he wanted to play things that were more fun. they mostly specialize in songs that are either really violent or very obsessive sounding. illumi is their main vocalist and talks sadly about how much he misses his little brother at every. single. performance.
killua gets a lot of hate mail from rabid fangirls.
alluka and nanika wanted to play music but ‘spoiled the image’ so they couldn’t. therefore when killua quit they eagerly went with him and were happily welcomed.
kalluto originally played with the rest of the zoldycks but missed killua and the twins so when killua asked if they wanted to come help out they jumped at the chance.
hisoka runs an independent record label. he works closely with the zoldycks but claims he’s always on the lookout for new talent. he’s been issued a restraining order.
neon nostrade has declared herself kurapika’s biggest fan and plays the role of typical rabid fangirl perfectly. she hasn’t been issued a restraining order but she’s damn close.
bisky, hanzo, and basho serve as security guards.
the phantom troupe is yet another band. kurapika is determined to get enough influence in the music world to wipe them off the map for good.
chrollo has attacked kurapika in the past. namely, he attempted to crush kurapika’s larynx.
he failed, but in the struggle, kurapika’s necklace broke.
it belonged to his mother. chrollo stole the pendant(in what kurapika assumes was an attempt to demoralize him), so kurapika couldn’t have it repaired.
that more than anything else was what made him hate the troupe so much; he won’t be satisfied no matter how popular he is until he’s influential enough to make sure they never get another performance.
he also wants to get that pendant back from chrollo.
the chimera ants are up-and-coming and somewhat unconventional performers. they’re known in particular for amazing costumes and effects and are quickly becoming very popular.
shaiapouf, of course, plays the violin. his signature style includes lots of colors and anything that sparkles. he’s the most popular with teenage girls.
neferpitou plays a trumpet. they’re the most active of the group and get really into choreography.
menthuthuyoupi plays the keyboard; people say he must have more than just two hands in order to pull off the things he does.
meruem is the vocalist.
komugi is their biggest fan. she brings flowers to every performance. she can’t see any of it of course but she says meruem’s voice is the best she’s ever heard.
no one is sure where she keeps getting backstage passes from.
but any time someone brings it up, meruem just smiles and says that it doesn’t matter.

East of the Sun: STS9 Live at The Eastern (rescheduled NYE celebration)!
If you have followed my column over the years, you might be familiar with the band, STS9. If not, STS9 is an instrumental band that has been uplifting lives since 1998 with their blend of funk, jazz, drum and bass, hip-hop, electronic, psychedelic music. The band began its musical journey back in 1998 when they started playing in the Atlanta/Athens area. I remember first going to see a band playing downtown Augusta called Sound Tribe Sector 9 because some of my friends were going. Figured why not? I had no clue about this band and well personally I was not into this type of music at the time. After seeing them perform this night, I knew that I was going to see them again sometime down the road.
Now fast forward to present day, I cannot count how many sets/performances that I have witnessed by STS9 at either a festival or just while they toured. But I can safely say that each time I have seen them, it has been a wonderful journey through their music. The band consists of Hunter Brown (guitars/keyboards), Zach Velmer (drums/electronic percussion/programming), Alana Rocklin (bass), Jeffree Lerner (percussion/keyboards/programming), and David Phipps (keyboards/synthesizers/programming). They have released seventeen (17) LPs and four (4) video/DVDs.
This time around, I was fortunate enough to attend nights two (2) and three (3) of STS9’s East of the Sun four (4) night-stand at The Eastern for their rescheduled New Year’s run. The opening support went accordingly: 06/03 - an all-improv Wave Spell set from STS9 and 06/04 - No Stress aka Paul Horton.
Night two (2) was destined to go down in the annals of STS9’s history as they embarked on a sonic journey that many fans alike drool over- an all-improv Wave Spell set from STS9! This is a chance for the entire band to showcase their individual talents throughout the entire improv set.
Check out the set list for Night 2 below:
Set I: “You Don’t Say” > “T.W.E.L.V.E.”, “Lo Swaga”, “Looking Back on Earth”, “Squares & Cubes” > “Monkey Music”
Set II: “Oil & Water” > “The Spectacle”, “Poseidon”, “Golden Gate”, “Wave Spell”, “Menacer” > “Four Year Puma”
Set III: Improv
Opening for STS9 on night three (3) was No Stress aka Paul Horton who was born in Athens, Alabama and he may look familiar to some. He plays keyboards with none other than the Alabama Shakes and also tours with Brittany Howard (Alabama Shakes lead vocalists/guitars) on her solo career. His latest release is entitled Prelude No. 1 (released March 2nd, 2021) which “presents the fruits of a cleared psyche that blends everything from hip-hop and jazz to glitch and transcendental ambience”. No wonder STS9 asked No Stress to join them on tour, this LP is fantastic from start to finish! No Stress also has released (February 4th, 2022) an EP entitled No Stress + Coupler: Reinvention No. 1 that deserves a listen. Head over to the Official Spotify page for No Stress today to check out some tunes! Or check No Stress out at their Official Bandcamp if that is more your style.
STS9 did not waste any time during the opening for Night 3 bringing some heaters that included “March”, “Move My Peeps”, and “Worry No More” during the first set. As much as I personally love when STS9 does an all-improv Wave Spell set, I really feel Saturday was better in my opinion. Nothing against the fire that was made on Friday for Night 2, but Night 3 was something special!
Check out the Set list for Night 3 below:
Set I: “Really What?”, “March”, “Move My Peeps” > “Tap-In”, “Worry No More” > “Enceladus” > “Worry No More”
Set II: “Big Basin”, “Peoples”, “Dusk” > “Bussin” > “Elevators*, “Like I Do”, “What is Love?”, “Circus”
Encore: “ABCees”, “Firewall”
Show Notes: * First time played since 2019 12.30 (Ravespell)

Starter for @vulptexvenator:
John struts out on stage for yet another performance of the greatest hits of Mucous Membrane. This time they’re in Manchester, and it’s a seedy club with sticky floors and watered down vodka. The stage can barely be called that, it’s just a slightly raised area where all the plugs are for the electric guitars and keyboards. The walls are painted completely black, and the place reeks of stale alcohol, old cigarettes and the body odour of the gig goers who have turned out to see them. John is always slightly surprised that anyone turns up, because he knows how bad they are. He’s not so self absorbed that he doesn’t realise that they’re basically only surviving because the Punk revival is so hot that some fans will listen to anything.
John lives for the adulation though and the screaming fans who want more at the end of every song, just because they’re up there on the stage. He loves the fact that he can forget everything when he’s up on stage and just yell out the lyrics. Then, afterwards he’ll go and get drunk to continue that forgetfulness, whilst the rest of the band probably hook up with a few carefully chosen members of their adoring fan club. John’s not above that either, but he’s less into it that he thought he’d be. It’s all kind of been getting tedious lately.
“Hey up!” he shouts out to the crowd, and gets a mumbled reply in return. He tries again. “Call that a shout? I said ‘hey up’.”
This time he receives a better response and they launch straight into their first number “Hit with a Brick”. It goes pretty well, Muppet manages to keep in time and Gaz doesn’t screw up the chord change. John’s reasonably pleased.
He launches into a diatribe on the evils of capitalist society, the one he always does that leads nicely into “Money to Burn”, and looks out across the crowd. The words die on his lips, because there, near the back of the sparse throng of fans is Rip Hunter. John is momentarily confused. Rip’s back home, for sure. Rip hates leaving home, but he’s here, and John is kind of pleased to see him, in fact maybe a bit more than that. John is unbelievably happy that he’s here.
John’s eyes meet Rip’s across a crowded club, and he is so surprised he forgets what he usually says next. Muppet pokes him with a drumstick from behind, and the spell is broken. So he drops the usual spiel and moves, not seamlessly, but with the practiced ease of a blagger, onto a new topic.
“So my old mate’s come to see me tonight! All the way from home! Give him a cheer everyone! Make him welcome! He’s at the back, and his name is Rip!”
He points a finger straight out at Rip, grinning from ear to ear, because he knows Rip hates attention. The crowd roars out something like “hi Rip!”. John waits for the noise to die down, his eyes never leaving the back of the room.
“This one’s for you, mate! This song is dedicated to my mate, Rip!”
He’s so goddamn happy that he belts out the next song with extra vigor. He wants to make Rip proud.

I renovated my home office last year. I’m sure OSHA would have been horrified with the previous layout as nothing about it was ergonomically correct. I was using a high, narrow sideboard painted a beautiful sage green. Through the years the wood had worn down in a few visible locations and was mottled with stains that no amount of effort could remove in others. The doors on either side were always ajar. They could only be closed with extreme effort and precise jiggling. I sometimes attempted to close them but not often.
We had pushed it against one wall which sadly removed any possible view of the lake but it was the only place it fit. We used it as a desk even though it was definitely the wrong height for the keyboard. It was awkward. The rest of the room was a jumble of mismatched, run-down furniture and an overly extensive collection of craft supplies, some more useful than others, and all of it bringing me dangerously close to hoarder territory.
When we finished updating the room, I fell in love with the results. It was everything I had dreamed it could be and a perfect space for a work at home person like myself.
Well, almost everything. I still had to corral some of the craft supplies that I wanted to keep. I’m a paper crafter at heart so my collection of small trinkets and embellishments is overwhelming and not easily stored.
I knew the exact location and style of the storage piece that would work and I wanted it to be vintage to counter balance the shiny, new pieces that filled up most of the space. And so, the search began. It would end up taking almost a year to find the perfect piece but the search is my happy place. I love the hunt. The hybrid antique piece that we eventually found had bright vintage teal paint and a reclaimed wooden top and bottom that bookended the rows of small metal drawers. It was exactly what I wanted.
Antiquing and the journey to find that perfect treasure is not for everyone. My husband breaks out in a sweat if he gets too close to a flea market. It makes him psychically anxious to be surrounded by the clutter often found in these type of places. It is the opposite of his happy place, although he certainly appreciates the items that I bring into our home. He just doesn’t want to be part of the search.
For me, it’s in my blood. My Dad is an especially adept antique hunter and a regular on the yard sale circuit. I’m sure it helps that he’s also handy and great at fixing things up, so those pieces that need a little extra repair don’t deter him.
Where do you find that perfect one of a kind treasure? Below is a list of five of my favorite places to go antiquing in Southern Maine:
Portland Architectural Salvage. This is a great place to poke around for treasures both big and small. Many of the items have an industrial flair.
Portland Flea for All. This consignment spot has a rotating collection of vintage and artisan items. I’ve blogged about one of the vendors that sells jewelry here in a previous a to z challenge post, S is for Stringin’ Along with ME | Giving new life to old guitar strings.
Goodwill. There are three locations within 12 miles of my house, making this a weekly destination for me. I never have anything specific in mind and just enjoy poking around. There’s always something new. Lately, I’ve found some great Calphalon® cookware pieces.
Maine Antiques Festival. No summer is complete without a visit to an antiques fair. One of the first and best takes place every August in Union, Maine. I don’t get to it every year but always enjoy the experience when I do.
Maine Antique Trail. Coastal Route 1 in Southern Maine. If you’re looking for a relaxed, casual pace then this trail is for you. It can be slow going in the summer with all the tourist traffic but it’s worth the wait. There are a number of antique stores and artisan stops along the way.
I’ve also blogged about yard sales in the past, which is another great place to seek out that unique item that you just can’t find in a chain store. See Going to Yard Sales this Weekend? Here are some helpful tips.
Some antiques are already in our lives and don’t require any searching. Another piece balancing out the newness of my office is a globe that I’ve had since childhood. It’s long since outdated but I don’t use it for accuracy. I have it on display for the memories it triggers. It makes me smile.
I also have an antique doctor’s scale in my bathroom. Honestly, I’m not sure I could use any other scale. I’m too attached to this one. I’ve had it since college. A gift from my father. He took it apart and spray painted it red so it would be a little more young and fun for a college freshman. It dominated my dorm room and was a frequent stopping spot for the lacrosse players living in the dorm next to mine. I’m not sure that was my Dad’s intention.
While my house has a modern vibe, sprinkled throughout the more streamlined pieces are items from the past. Some found on my antiquing journeys, others handed down, but all displayed with love.
Why does this bring me bliss? Like most things in life it’s the journey, not the destination. It’s all about the search. I think you either have the antiquing gene or you don’t. I definitely have it. That moment when you find the perfect item is pure bliss.
Do you like to go antiquing? What is your favorite antique or vintage item that you own?

Battle #19
The Firm: Mean Business (this side)
Vs.
The Stipjes: Out To Lunch (Side 2)
The Firm: Mean Business (this side)
The Firm were a British rock supergroup formed in 1984, featuring singer Paul Rodgers (Free and Bad Company), guitarist Jimmy Page (The Yardbirds and Led Zeppelin), drummer Chris Slade (Manfred Mann's Earth Band, Uriah Heep and AC/DC) and bass player Tony Franklin. The new songs from this amalgam of legends were heavily infused with a soulful and commercially accessible sound. Mostly courtesy of Franklin's fretless bass guitar underpinning an understated song structure. The band refused to play back catalog of any of their collective former bands. Despite refusing to play old material, the last track from The Firm, "Midnight Moonlight", was originally an unreleased Led Zeppelin song entitled "Swan Song". This caused critics to believe that Page had begun to run out of ideas, though he frequently stated the band never had any intention to last more than a few albums. So we have established the family tree, and the timeline. Now let’s establish the motive. British royalty meets hard line rock and roll, so you know it’s not bad. The problem though is it’s not 100% good either or we would be talking about the world’s most famous band most likely. We’ll just settle in the middle with it’s a decent listen. “Fortune Hunter” is the first cut and it’s a very riff-centric rocker. It has great production with almost Sammy Hagar-esque vocals. Wait, IS Sammy in the band!? No, a quick check of the liners reveals a hard “no”. Catchy enough for the radio but still (Robert) PLANTed (#seewhatididthere) enough on the ground. It is a very Zep and blues influence but goes all presto chango at the end. “Cadillac” follows and I am expecting richness on this. The tempo is a slow one...like molasses slow. Beefy though, and ripe with studio effects. They go wah crazy with distortion and such. I am not a guitarist but it’s undoubtedly noise that isn’t totally necessary. Meh. Spacier than Kevin (#seewhatididthere). “All The King’s Horses” introduces an element of keyboard presence. I was hoping it might be a cover of the Naz tune, but nah. Full on Van Halen levels of Pana-maniac (#seewhatididthere). Did Boston guest on this? This is actually a pretty intuitive, intertwined, and informed tune. It’s downright raining keyboards. “Live in Peace” is the last song and it’s pretty much another slow jam with big power chord payouts. I don’t know how to give it a proper explanation other than copies of the former greatness. It’s not groundbreaking but not uncool either. Good but not great. It IS wank from all sides though. Piano, guitar, vocals and percussion. Definitely deeply rooted in the hard rock sounds they originated from (how could they not be though, really.). All songs are a minimum of 4 plus minutes. It is difficult not to imagine they got together just to jam and came up with some useable pieces and ideas and fleshed them out and came to the label with product in hand. The label certainly didn’t do much promo on the album. The art itself or to hype up who compromised its members. Minimal inserts as well. Just mediocre rock for rocks sake.
The Stipjes: Out To Lunch (Side 2)
Go ahead. Just try to find out anything about De Stipies. Good luck... I’ll give you a little insight. They were a Punk band from Groningen, Netherlands, active around 1995-1996. They put out this album and a 7” single on the infamous garage rock based label Rip-Off Records. I don’t speak Dutch (right? Dutch? See I am so America I don’t even know what they speak in The Netherlands...but I’m pretty sure it’s Dutch.) Anyhow, as I was saying, I don’t speak Dutch but I believe the rough translation would be The Stiffies. That’s just a guess. Well, even though I don’t speak their language, they have a pretty good grasp on English. “My Brain is Dead” let’s you know that immediately. It’s the first track, and self billed “smash hit”and it’s very lo-fi trash rock. Very 3 chord punk and very rip offs (both the band and label). The thing with this genre is the rawness. The complete imperfections (of which there are many) are part of it. It’s just the band recorded live on a tape deck basically. You certainly get the energy, but you lose the nuances. I suppose garage rock hounds just don’t care about the frills anyhow. “Party Time” follows and is equally Garage band but with a 4 on the floor beat. It’s party time after all! Have a beer! I’m sure the band did (or a case) while recording. “Knock You Out” has a Supercharger vibe. For the money, I dig this one a lot. I would have listed IT as the smash hit. It’s got the buzzsaw guitars, start and stop action. Oh yeah, and the gang choruses! All in under two minutes! But wait, there’s more! “Pretty Baby” is good, but has one note from the complaint department. The solo is ear piercing and takes over everything. Move the tape deck away from the amp! No really, like EVERYTHING is cut out. “I Don’t Wanna Work” is the next in line, with a sloppy start, but quick recovery. Who really DOES want to work though? Certainly not me. Shout alongside to the same three chords, literally for both verses riff and choruses. I guess they didn’t want to work at this song (#seewhatididthere). All I can say is someone’s been listening to Teengenerate. They just seem like a band of 20 somethings that may or may not really know how to play. Like they would show up at a gig unprepared and want to borrow equipment. This thought is actually validated in the liner notes denoted by half of the list being devoted to them thanking people whom they borrowed bass amps from. I can only imagine that to people who don’t listen to punk this that this is what it all sounds like. Even the bags over their faces and sunglasses are an homage to The Rip Offs whom they must idolize. Perhaps a Euro-American love affair.
So The Firm took a stance and mean business. They burned 140 calories over 4 songs and 20 minutes. The average burned per song was 35 calories and 7.0 calories per minute. The Stipjes were out to lunch, but still managed to rock and roll us a little over their 11 minutes. 90 calories burned in that time and over 5 songs is pretty impressive. They averaged 18.0 calories burned per song and 8.18 calories burned per minute. Looks like The Netherlands know how to produce a hi-quality lo-fi tidal wave! The Stipjes win!

Be Mine (J-Hope, OC)
because we need more Hoseok with a bucket hat
Prompt #22: Hunter Hayes - Somebody’s Heartbreak
Word count: probably real close the 4k word limit (3.630 to be exact)
Genre: romance
Main characters: of course Jung Hoseok and Katrina Ricarte
A/N: Hey guys! This is an entry for Switch It Up Week: Love Song Series edition, which is an event happening over at @exoticarmy127 aka Kaye’s blog! Yes, I’m back at it again with another #Kobi scenario for you, nothing out of the usual haha For more information about SIUW, click here! Try participating before it’s too late!! Kaye decided to extend the time frame until the end of this weekend so you better get started fast! If not, fear not, she’s going to be holding another event later this year :) I hope everyone who participates has fun with the prompts! Without further ado, let’s get to the main story~
"Are you going out there again?" Matt asked as he sat on the first few steps of the houses' main staircase, watching his sister put her shoes on.
"You know me," she replied, slinging her backpack over her shoulder. "Where else would I go?"
"To the library maybe," he replied, raising an eyebrow. "You know mom doesn't like it when you do this."
"I'll be fine," she replied. "You know mom always gets over this," she threw back.
"Still," he insisted. "If you land yourself another YouTube video, you'll be grounded for two weeks instead of one. Unlike last time."
"That was once like three months ago, alright?" She said offended when he replied by waving her off.
"Alright, it’s noted. All social media but YouTube," she said jokingly as she ruffled his hair. "Now go do your homework and pretend you never saw me leave. If not you're the one who's going to be in trouble. Tell Pam not to say anything either, if ever she asks."
"She said she'd be home late because she wanted to stay in the art room for a bit but sure, I'll pass the message on to her whenever she comes home. Stay safe," he said as he climbed the stairs, heading back towards his unfinished homework.
"Always," she replied as she closed the door behind her.
She walked down the few steps that led to the street and breathed in a lungful of fresh air. Being outside and giving your pores fresh air after a day of class sure felt good.
The walk to the Nothing But Treble shop wasn't long, and in fifteen minutes, the bell over the door rang, announcing her presence.
"I'll be there in a minute," she heard from the back of the store. "Feel free to look around while waiting!"
She took her usual place on the stool in front of the counter, taking in the familiar interior. Guitars and keyboards lined the poster-filled walls and rows of CDs and vinyls formed six alleyways. On a few scattered shelves stood a few signed pictures of celebrities, but she knew the owner's most prized pictures were tucked away safely under the counter's glass display, near the cash register.
"Why hello there miss Ricarte," Mr. Gerald greeted with a little curtsy as he walked out into the main store. "How have you been?"
"I've been well, but my days are always better when I get to see you," she replied with a curtsy of her own and a smile he mirrored, his eyes turning into crescents and his smile lines appearing.
"School is ending in a few weeks and I'm hoping to snatch a job across the street when I'll be off," she said, fiddling with the small metallic treble by the register. She wasn't sure when it had gained its place on the counter, but it somehow added to the charm of the shop.
"I'll make sure to slip Mrs. Choi a word about you," he said with a wink.
Yoona Choi was the one who owned the bookstore two streets behind Nothing But Treble and was a good friend of Mr. Gerald's. Katrina thought she remembered hearing something about them having been to the same high school, but she wasn't sure.
"I'd appreciate it," she replied sincerely."But how about you? Have you been feeling better? Does your back still hurt?"
"Slipped discs are quite the pain, but my back is feeling much better, thank you," he said with a kind smile that translated to: I'm okay. "My children have been real angels and have been dropping by home to help my wife around the house a lot, so you don't need to worry too much about this old man's health, dear."
"That's great to hear," she said, her heart becoming lighter after hearing the news.
She had grown fond of the owner of this little music store at the intersection of the two crowded streets in front of Spring park the first time she had set foot in his shop. She had grown fond of the way he talked with his hands, of the way his eyes sparkled every time he greeted a customer, of the way he smiled like the sun every time she passed by the counter, of the way he talked so passionately about the instruments of his shop.
Gerald Lee, no older than her father, had owned this store for decades and she hoped he still would in the many years to come. He had been the one to sell (and make) her her first guitar and teach her her first chords. He had been her first audience and her pillar ever since she had gotten into music (her parents, although praising her voice, thought she should spend less time on the streets and more in her books), so she held his health at heart as if she was his daughter and was eternally grateful to his actual children for being so helpful when she couldn't be. She had only seen them in pictures under the glass display seeing as they didn't live at their parents' house anymore, but she had heard a whole lot about them: about their childhood, about the presents they had made for him (that he had showed off), about the pictures they sent home when they could, about the stories they had relayed from work.
His daughter was currently undergoing her second year of residency and fellowship training as part of the general hospital's surgery branch. She had sped through undergraduate and medical school with flying colors and Mr. Gerald took great pride in that. From what her father was saying about her, she was aiming to specialize in critical care surgery and be part of the ICU unit.
His son, on the other hand, had been to art school in graphic design and had graduated with a hefty portfolio that had garnered him the attention of many companies. He was currently creating character designs he hoped would make the cut for the next game release. She had a hunch he would.
"I'll go get the real reason you're here," Mr. Gerald said with a smile as he turned around and headed for the storage room, leaving her seated at the counter.
---
"She's here," Jungkook said, nudging him as he got up from stretching, almost sending him tumbling on the asphalt. "Just like she is every Friday at 3:26 on the dot."
"Who?" Hoseok replied dumbly, looking around as he put on his bucket hat.
"Your angel," Jimin said, grinning as he saw her greet the florist and the baker as she passed them, making her way to her usual spot under her usual tree.
"Oh," Hoseok said as he looked at her take out her guitar and sit on its case, plucking a few strings and strumming a few chords to make sure it was tuned.
She had tied her favourite flannel shirt around her waist, the elder noticed. It was red and white and he knew it was her favourite, because she wore it almost every time he saw her. Today, she had coupled it with a white blouse and short jeans dungarees. That meant she would be performing new songs today and tomorrow.
Somehow, over the few months of seeing her perform a few feet away from him, he had learned to decipher her subconscious dress code.
As her voice rang out over the noise of shoes slapping the pavement, the trio, along with a few curious pedestrians, made their way to where she stood.
flashback
She stood under the shade of the blooming king cherry tree, the setting sun behind her making her look like an angel.
He waited for her as she finished bowing to her diminishing audience, thanking them for listening, her hair swaying every time she bowed.
He waited for her as she told passersby to come listen to her again if they had the time to spare, the sun rays blazing around her figure.
He waited for her as she asked them to please leave money in the school bag if they could afford to or if they had liked her performance, her eyes shining every time somebody dropped something in her bag.
He waited for her when she said, once again, that she was very thankful to all of them for listening to her performances, a smile gracing her lips.
"Hi," he said tentatively, approaching her once everyone had left.
"Hi," she echoed as she closed her guitar case, stood up and shouldered her bagpack. "What's up?" She asked, used to having small-talk with curious onlookers.
"What song was that?" He asked awkwardly, almost as if he had rehearsed it a few times before saying it.
"Which one," she said with soft laugh. "I played quite a few today."
"The last one," he said, uselessly gesturing to the space around them. "The newest one."
"Lost Stars by Adam Levine," she said with a small smile, flattered someone had pointed out the newest addition to her repertoire. It felt good to know someone had noticed.
"It sounded really good," he said. "Not that your other songs weren't good," he hurried to add. "Your songs are aways good."
She laughed at that and he couldn't suppress the smile that made its way to his lips. Who wouldn't smile after hearing angels sing?
"Don't worry, I know what you meant," she said, a grin now plastered on her face, though she didn't know whether it was there because of his clumsiness with words or because of how contagious he smile was.
"You're the dancer, right?" She asked when he made no move to leave or ask further questions.
He looked at her, eyes as big as saucers, clearly caught off guard. He pointed a finger at his chest. "Me?"
"No, the ghost behind you," she joked. "Yes you. You're one of the guys who dances in front of the pastry shop, aren't you? The one who occasionally beat-boxes."
"Uh, yeah, that's me," he said, still looking like a deer caught in headlights.
"I won't bite your head off you know," she said chuckling at the frightened look he sported. "I just wanted to tell you your hoodie friend is a really talented dancer. I liked today's dance break. It's a new choreography, right?"
"Yes," he said eagerly, this topic definitely in his comfort zone. "It's a new dance routine Jungkook has been practicing He's really passionate about learning different genres. He didn't choreograph that one, but he's really passionate about making dance routines too. He’s really talented when it comes to dancing."
"It was different from the style you and your snapback friend usually dance," she said. "It was refreshing. He flowed with the song and merged with the rhythm. It was a sight to see. You and your snapback friend are really good dancers too though, don't take it personal."
"It's a compliment for a compliment, alright?" She said when he remained in a daze, absentmindedly nodding in agreement. She wondered what was weighing on his mind.
"Well, I'll be off," she said as she checked the watch on her wrist.
She had performed until pretty late today and, if she stayed out any longer than this, she would probably get scolded by her mom, not that she wouldn't be scolded by the latter if ever she found out her daughter was performing on the streets again.
The sun hadn't set yet considering it was the beginning of March, but she knew her mom would be getting dinner ready soon and that she absolutely had to get home before that happened, unless she wanted to come up with an excuse as to why she was late.
"Burgers," he said suddenly, as if only now realising she had started walking away. "How does getting hamburgers sound?"
She turned around with a raised eyebrow, amused by his invitation. "Right now?"
"Now is as good as any other time," he replied, eyes shining.
"I know a really good burger shop down Central Avenue," he said, pointing to a street behind him. "Want to go with me?"
"My treat," he said when he saw her weighing her options. "For being such a good singer."
"Fine," she said, caving in, her stomach grumbling. "Not because you're paying but because of the compliment, alright?" Pointing a finger at him before he could say anything. He raised his hands in surrender.
"Does that mean I can exchange compliments for lunch tickets?" He asked cheekily.
"Who knows," she said, the ghost of a smile on her lips, forgetting all about the fact she'd have to come up with yet another pretext for not being home on time.
"I guess that means I'll have to start complimenting you more then," he replied as they started walking to Mr. Gerald's shop to drop off her guitar before heading out to eat burgers.

---
"Ice cream delivery!"
Hoseok looked up to see Katrina standing in front of him, holding four ice cream cones, two in each hand.
"Cookie dough for Jungkook, strawberry for Jimin, double Dutch for me, and vanilla for you," she said as they each grabbed their cones.
"Thank you," they chorused as they all started eating. The cold treat was greatly welcomed in the blazing heat of late spring. Summer was just around the corner and the weather definitely reflected that.
"You're not staying?" Jimin asked as he took a bite of his ice cream, noticing she was making a move to leave.
"I gotta bounce," she said, hooking a thumb over her shoulder. "It's my sister's birthday today, so I don't want to stay out too long. I need to buy her acrylics and a new notebook on the way home and I need to help prepare the house while she's out with friends."
"Alright then," Jungkook said, a mouthful of ice cream stuffed in his cheeks. "Family first. We'll see you tomorrow then?"
"Of course," she replied with a smile.
"Wish her happy birthday from us," Hoseok said as she waved them goodbye and nodded, meaning she'd relay the message.
---
Katrina stuck her head past the door frame of her room, checking no one was in her vicinity before soundlessly heading towards the stairs.
"Be home before dinner," her younger sister very loudly reminded her from their shared her room. She rushed back, hurriedly hushing her sister, hoping their mother hadn't heard that.
"I'll be back before mom even sets the table," Kat replied. "So don't get me busted before I even get to leave. Use the gifts I bought you yesterday and pretend I never left."
"Sometimes I really wonder who's the youngest between you and me," her sister told her, shaking her head as her older sister left their room once again.
Katrina quietly tip-toed down the stairs, shoes in hand, sneaking a peek at the living room in which her mother was before heading for the door. The latter was talking on the phone, sometimes glancing at the kitchen for what Kat assumed was lunch being made. She swiftly left, silently closing the door behind her.
She reached Mr. Gerald's shop a little after 10, passing by to greet him and pick up her guitar.
What's going on, she thought as the open road in front of the park came to view. A crowd had already built up under her usual pink-flowered tree, but she wasn't the cause of it. Yet she was sure that was her usual performing spot.
She walked towards the source of music, intent on discovering who had stolen her spot. When she saw two familiar heads bobbing their heads to a familiar song, she cocked her head, confused.
"What's going on?" She asked a boy on her left as she merged with the back of the crowd.
"They passed out flyers yesterday afternoon saying they'd do a special performance today," he replied over the beat, his eyes not once leaving the two dancing figures. She spotted Hoseok near the audio system. "I've seen them perform a few times with my friends before so I came to check it out. Their moves are sick."
She agreed with a nod that went unnoticed and squeezed her way to the sidelines, watching as the boys finished a choreography she recognized as Own It. They took a quick water break, pushing their hair under snapbacks before a new beat made its way to her ears. The change of beat from calm to heavy made the crowd go wild as Jimin took the center, Jungkook and Hoseok hurrying to put on masks before joining in, the screams getting louder as Jimin flipped (she herself letting out exclamations in awe) and reaching their peak as the beat dropped.
It was when the music came to a stop and applause rang out into the morning air that Jungkook finally noticed her. He nudged Hoseok. The latter cleared his throat.
"Hello everyone," he said, clapping his hands as the the two youngest busied themselves preparing the stage. She noticed them grabbing some guitar cases leaning against the wall. "As promised yesterday, we'll be holding a special performance today."
He waited for the cheers to quiet down before speaking again. "As some of you may have noticed, that last dance was a new choreography. It is part of the special performance, but that isn't the main event. Actually, we'll be showing you a different kind of performance today. Jungkook?"
"I know you guys are used to seeing us dance," the younger said, guitar slung around his neck and plugged into the amplifier as he took Hoseok's place, the older getting ready behind him. "But our performance isn't going to be about dancing. As you may have guessed from our props, we'll actually be covering a song."
"This is a song for a special someone," Jimin followed up. "You know who you are, so please step up."
He had made eye contact with her so she knew. She knew she was the one Jimin was walking about. She knew yet she couldn’t move.
"Come on," he said, reaching into the crowd for her hand, pulling her towards the middle of the front row.
"We've been preparing this for quite a while now, so please enjoy," Jungkook said as they started strumming the first chords, a sweet melody making it's way to her ears.
flashback
"What are you thinking about like that?" Hoseok asked as they sat on the bench overlooking the river.
"Nothing much," she replied. Just you.
"Liar," he said. "You don't even know what you're reading right now."
"I do to," she said, looking at him.
"Oh yeah? Since when have you started reading your books upside down?" He replied with a cocked eyebrow, pointing to the book in her hands.
She hurriedly shut it closed, embarrassed. "Since when have you been so observant?"
"Since when have you been so distracted?" He replied.
"Since when have you been so distracting?" She shot back before realizing what she had just said.
By the time she noticed, she had also noticed how close they were, leaning towards each other. She cleared her throat and straightened her back, putting distance between them.
"You think I'm distracting?" Hoseok replied and, although his voice sounded confident, she could see the blush rising under his cheekbones.
"Will Herondale is more distracting than you are," she said, trying to control her urges of taking a glance at his lips.
"Oh yeah?" He asked, folding his arms over his chest. "What's so great about the guy? His ego?"
"Well, for starters, his looks are deadly," Katrina said as she threw herself into a detailed reasoning as to why the perfectly skilled fighter with deep blue eyes you could drown in and an intellect that made your knees weak was oh so perfect.
Over the course of the few weeks that had followed the hamburger encounter, she and Hoseok had grown closer. Now on an official name basis (which was better than knowing each other a Guitar Girl and Beatbox Boy), they often chatted each other up to discuss movies or celebrity gossip and how class had been, even occasionally going on walks with Shammy, her dog, together.
The day after burger night, she had noticed he and his friends, Jimin (his snapback friend) and Jungkook (his hoodie friend), came to see her perform every time they took dance breaks and their crowd dissolved, so she had started heading to their performance spot during her own breaks.
When they had common breaks they would talk over lunch she got the habit to make for them, and on the occasions when they both wrapped up at the same time, they'd either go their separate ways or they'd raid a corner store for food and either crash at someone's place.
Katrina found herself going over to Hoseok's place often, having even become good friends with his older sister, Dawon. His parents were happy to see her every time they dropped by, eager to hold conversations she would add English literature knowledge to, or eager to hear a snippet of a song they were sure Jungkook knew the chords to.
But most of all, they were eager to observe the shy glances that passed between Hoseok and her, the unnoticed looks of longing, the peach blush that settled on their cheeks.
end of flashback
If you're gonna be somebody's heartbreak If you're gonna be somebody's mistake If you're gonna be somebody's last time, or their first time Baby be mine
As Katrina stood there, watching this Gwangju boy sing his heart out in the soft daylight of late spring, she knew exactly what three lettered word she would answer to his question.
-The End-
And it’s a wrap! I hope you’ve enjoyed reading this far! Please go read the other submissions for SIUW if you have the time to: I’m sure everyone’s stories are great! I’ll also try to make it in time for the next SIUW, so hopefully see you soon~
Jungkook’s dance break I mentioned was his Save Your Goodbye dance cover (which I absolutely love)
Do you know how rude he looks with a guitar??
Also Jimin’s “usual solo dance” that I mentioned would be his Bait dance cover throwback to fetus snapback Jimin which I chose over his krump practice, but go check it out too!
Also, their group choreography would refer to their really cool dance break practice video I still can’t over Jimin’s acrobatics
I also debated whether to put Jimin and Jungkook’s Brian Pupos’ Own It cover video and I ended up caving in so there you have it.
(hmu if you can know where that GIF came from. I want to give credit where it’s due but I can’t find the source to this GIF I had saved)
Can we also talk about how Brian Puspos actually acknowledged their dance cover and that he’s a dancer Jungkook really looks up to?? I was so proud when I saw this tweet
originally posted by semhope
Throwback to the fetus trio from their Graduation Song omg (found this while looking through OT3 pictures to put with this story)
Okay but imagine, after you guys have been dating for a while, Hoseok seeing you in the crowd and beckoning you over so he can dance to you singing watch that tongue boy
Also, can we talk about Hoseok in sleeveless shirts??
I mean?? Look how good he looks in them??
also hmu if you know who originally posted those GIFs of Hoseok
Okay, this A/N is getting long enough as it is, so I’ll stop here haha I really hope you guys enjoyed reading through this! Although the deadline kind of stressed me out (barely made it to the original deadline: I insist on posting it for the original deadline okay even if I’m like 5 minutes before midnight in my timezone it still counts as being before the deadline alright) I’m glad I was able to post this on time! Please go read my other works on my blog @sleeplesswritersaito . It would mean a lot to me!! I know I’m not the most frequent updater out there, but please give me a chance. I do my best to write when I can with the workload I have OTL Also, when I wrote “another Kobi scenario”, for those of you that don’t know, I wrote a Kobi scenario for Kaye as a one-month-early birthday present, so you can go read it here if you want to! Anyways, thank you for reading this far!

WET PICNIC :: Balls Up ~ 8.4 | GARY HARRISON :: To the Night ~ 5.3
Unicorn | UNIC 9504
Unicorn | UNIC 9505
The Unicorn label is probably best known for being involved in the distribution fiasco for the Black Flag album Damaged, but they also released an impressively wide range of music. I found these albums in two separate cheapo bins. It turns out they were released next to each other in 1982 (judging from the catalog numbers), but they couldn't be more different musically. From the muted guitar chords that open "Cocktailed Sky," the first cut of Wet Picnic’s Balls Up, the energy immediately jumps off the record. Tight and tense, the track is about kicking booze and turning over a new leaf by joining the vice squad. You may have guessed that this platter is not an overly serious affair. "She Don't Care" seems very self-aware to me, as if the band discussed crafting the perfect power-pop song...and they did pretty well! Containing some poptastic chord changes, carnival organ, and soaring harmonies, the song describes the end of a rather empty relationship. It's calculated but pretty irresistible. Addressing apocalyptic paranoia, "Are You in Touch" goes for an intense punk sprint. With the vocal sounding like "are you in dodge," it could have been the perfect jingle for the Chrysler K-car, which rolled off the assembly line in ‘81. The album takes another hard turn with "He Believes," which opens with a vibrato-heavy keyboard part that sounds like a theremin singing opera. Quiet and meticulously crafted, its lyrics are about a randy young lad who seeks to consummate his imaginary relationship with a gorgeous movie starlet. It could have been a Bette Midler torch song with more palatable lyrics (unlike "chances are she'll tell him to shove it"). The mini-album (or extended EP, if you prefer) ends with "Tension," which may be about the line between sexual anxiety and work pressure blurring, but its lyric "who knows what this is all about" seems fitting. The stylistic variation of Balls Up is a benefit instead of a failed attempt to demonstrate virtuosity. It's the rarity of being painfully hip but also genuinely great.
Examining the stark cover art of To the Night, one might suspect an edgy singer-songwriter effort, but Gary Harrison is a teddy bear. The style of the album is early '80s pop-country with ear-pleasing hooks and the occasional out-of-place-but-cool-at-the-time synth. The record would be a classic for the ages if everything was as great as its opener "Arms of Saturday Night." It's either a straight-faced tribute or a sneaky parody of Springsteen, with a melody that wouldn't be out of place on Born to Run, its seemingly intentional cruising/racing clichés, and hilarious lyrical references to bulging crotches (courtesy of Connie, the counterpart to Springsteen's Wendy), running red lights, endless nights, and so on. Whatever the intent, make no mistake: it's a fantastic little ditty. Elsewhere, the lyrics are sometimes clumsy ("she's just someone I used to love...every night, for a year or so"), sometimes dull, but usually passable in a "professional" sense. What sadly sinks the album is its overabundance of ballads. Slow dances such as "Everything That I've Got" are pleasant enough, but half of the album is made up of similarly schmaltzy tunes. The record needs more tracks like the bopping toe-tapper "Foolin'.” Although the slow numbers are generally indistinguishable, "He's a Boy" is a diamond in the rough. It's a gentle, touching love song in which Harrison describes his newborn son's constant discovery of the world around him and imagines all the wonderful things he wants for his son when he grows up. To the Night does contain some strong material, but it would have worked much better as a mini-album (like the five-track Balls Up). Imagine a label (even an indie) releasing albums like this back-to-back today. Kudos to the short-lived Unicorn for promoting musical diversity in their catalog and keeping life interesting for vinyl hunters like me.
