By the time he’s finished his food and paid his bill there’s still plenty of daylight remaining. Plenty of time to find Evan and hopefully enjoy a brief reunion before Eddie has to go. Memories, and the ever present invisible tug, guide him back to the neighborhood near the beach house. Tourist season is over, leaving the streets mostly empty except for a few permanent residents, and homeowners winterizing their properties until the area comes back to life for rentals.

He parks in an hourly lot close to the pier, finally bracing himself for the task of calling Shannon. He could put it off even longer until he’s settled at the end of the pier, waiting for Evan. It feels wrong to mix the two worlds together, though. They’re already dangerously close.

It’s not that he doesn’t want Shannon to know, he plans on telling her, always has, but the timing is never quite right. Between getting to know each other and skipping to the babies and marriage phase, bringing up a childhood friend — who just happens to be a merperson — hasn’t managed to come up. He doesn’t think now is that time either.

With a heavy sigh Eddie dials the number and prepares to lie to his wife. Well, not lie exactly, but it won’t be the whole truth. And he’s going to tell her, so it’s fine. That’s what he keeps telling himself anyway.

“Eddie?! Where the hell are you?”

And, yeah, he deserves that greeting. “I’m, um, I’m in LA actually. Needed to take care of something before Monday.”

There’s a heavy silence before Shannon responds.

“Days before you leave, you suddenly have to take care of ‘something’,” she deadpans. “Care to elaborate?”

The only way out is through at this point, so he pushes on with the closest version of the truth he can give. “I have a friend out here, Evan, and, I don’t know how exactly to explain it, Shan. I’ve known him since we were kids and it’s been a while and I just got this weird feeling that I needed to see him. Listen, I know how weird this probably sounds, but I promise I’ll be back in the morning, and make it up to you and-”

“Eddie.” Shannon interrupts, softer this time. “It’s okay. This can’t- I’m sure it’s not easy for you. I know it’s not for me, and I’m not the one going anywhere.”

“You’re not mad?” He asks lamely.

“No, I’m not mad.” His relief is short-lived. “I’m pissed and we are having a big talk about this when you get back. But at least now I know where you are and that you’re coming home.”

“Baby, I was always-”

“Drive safe. Okay, Eddie?”

He nods, even though she can’t see him. “Yeah, okay. I will. I love you.”

“I love you, too.”

So I was thinking about the whole elves-being-naturally-prettier-than-humans thing because that was always sort of weird to me when I FINALLY think I figured it out.

Humans used to know about the elves, and there are some things they still remember—hence myths about Atlantis and such. Reality is, humans and elves resembled each other in a lot of ways, but elves put themselves on a pedestal as better than every other species (that’s, like, canon, and better be addressed more fully at some point?) and that’s probably a part of the reasons humans “betrayed” the elves—they got sick of hearing that elves were better.

But it was just sort of implanted in their minds, though they weren’t fans of the idea, and elves didn’t go to great lengths to erase that idea from their minds. So humans remember myths and some things about elves, and Atlantis being the underwater city………and beauty standards.

It’s not that elves are naturally prettier than humans. It’s that human beauty standards are shaped around the natural looks of elves.

I feel like I'm the only one that thinks the Lost Cities wouldn't be homophobic

Like I absolutely understand that the matchmaking system is built upon genetics and having children and so it seems logical that elves would only like hetero couples

but 1. As humans we have technically already figured out a way for two women to reproduce with each other so there's a very good chance elves have too

2. Shannon emphasizes constantly that the Lost Cities have different prejudices from the Forbidden Cities and the reason they think of themselves as so much better than humans is because they don't have all the issues that humans do so to add homophobia would take away from that entire message

3. Because of immortality many elves never get married or even apply to the match the only thing in the Lost Cities that is seen as scandalous is marrying and having children with someone who's not on your match list

4. the fact that many elves don't have children or get married (and as far as I'm aware aren't judged for it) I don't think the having children aspect is actually as important as some people think it is

5. all these same things apply to trans people I think there's a very good chance that when an elf is trans they just tell their parents and transition literally right after they come out (which could be right after their out of the womb considering they can talk immediately) because gender has no standing on what ability an elf will manifest

Bonus, I also think the elves being pro-life because of inception dates (I've only seen this a couple times but still) is also not something that would actually happen I think the elves almost definitely have 100% affective contraceptive so they literally don't have children until they want to and they most likely count by inception date 1. because they can easily tell what day it is because of the weird belly button thing and 2. because elvin biology and/or development is clearly different from humans considering they talk from birth and so it's more accurate to count from the inception date

On that point I want to once again emphasize that elves don't have the same norms and culture that humans do they have entirely different ways of living and don't have the same discrimination or prejudices that humans do and it defeats the point to say they do

Honestly I think the main reason there aren't any queer people in kotlc is because Shannon just like hasn't thought to add them

Reading The Storybook of Legends.

Paragraph is spent with Cerise existing, the Three Little Pigs (who are unnamed) bumping into her, screaming and locking themselves in a classroom. Ducking down so their little faces aren't seen. And like...one, that's hilarious to me as the reader.

But in-universe? Anxiety-inducing for everyone involved. The pigs I'll explain below.

Cerise because she has to hide the fact she's part wolf. And imagine doing everything you can including sleeping with your hood on because your roommate is someone who CANNOT lie. Even by omission. Even if they wanted and desperately wished they could.

But there's at least three students who keep revealing exactly that by running away instinctively every time they notice you.

Literally every time Cerise and The Three Little Pigs share the same space, they reveal exactly who her father is. Now to the pigs: Do the pigs know that is what their instincts are telling them? Or do they think they just have this really weird and niche phobia and every time afterwards, they're like damn, what the fuck. We need to get this under control lads/gals. This is embarrassing.

The pigs in therapy* trying to overcome this stupidly embarrassing phobia they have because omg, they need to stop. It's Cerise Hood. They have zero reasons to be scared of her**.

*ignore the fact that EAH world most likely does not have therapy.

**Totally HCing that the one pig that agreed to be Apple White's Evil Queen for that one webisode is the one that realises it's not a phobia because it's completely rational for a pig to be afraid of a wolf. Also I'm HCing that that pig is the one that gets his house blown down first.

Rewatched Eddie Begins yesterday and at the start his mom is talking about how Ramon was out of town for each of the kids, and how Adriana had been an emergency C-section. In the retirement party episode the story about little Eddie crashing the truck when his mom went into labor was also Adriana. So Eddie was alone and scared and his mom was in emergency surgery and when his dad finally showed up he needed comfort and got yelled at instead.....
