fuuuuck. i’ll be honest, i was never a ryan gosling fan. like when everyone was freaking out over him in like the 2010s and oh he’s so hot blah blah blah i really didn’t get it. but idk man. something has changed for me since the barbie movie. i didn’t know what i was missing, and i’ve been enlightened. i’m like kind of obsessed with him. i watched the nice guys a while ago and loved it. and now i just watched the fall guy tonight, and oh my fucking god. he was sooooo cool. like okay obviously it’s the character he plays that’s cool but like. fuck! his stupid messy blond hair and his stupid handsome face and he’s so stinkin cuuuute!! i love him. a lot. he’s really cool but he also has this babygirl sopping wet meow meow energy that i’m just really digging fr fr.

I am so endlessly obsessed with the idea of the tragedy of the dead girl idolized but never understood. It’s the cruelest form of objectification, putting a romanticized & totally fictional version of someone on a pedestal after they die. And it’s not always angelic. Sometimes we’re afraid of the ghost of the person we loved who says the cruel things they’d never say but we always feared. I like this trope because it doesn’t just play on the fears of dying & being misrepresented, but on being left behind & misremembering. Can we even trust our own memories? Our own idea of the person we’re grieving? When all that’s left are our memories & memories are always biased? There’s so many levels to the tragedy of a person who dies & leaves behind a monumental image that overshadows the real flawed complex person that existed.

So I've just gone to post a Rhaenyra one-shot (request), which came into my inbox a while ago, and the person who sent the request has blocked me, and I can only assume it's because I didn't answer quick enough.

I'm currently working on my miniseries while catching up with requests, so please don't take it personal if it takes me a while to respond. If for whatever reason I have an issue with writing it, I will message you privately and say way 🤷‍♀️

Oh Jeez, I knew this episode was gonna be divisive since we finally got an answer to the question: What happened between Day and Night? Full disclosure, I got pretty emotional about it too! I've calmed down now and after some reflection, I've ultimately concluded that whichever brother you find yourself sympathizing with more, neither of them is undeserving of criticism.

This situation isn't black and white. There are no heroes or villains here. Neither Day nor Night are at fault for what happened, it was an accident and the resulting situation is complicated. Between unhealthy family dynamics and the individual characters flaws, there are A LOT of factors here making the conflict actively worse (not to mention they both suck at communication). It can't be resolved so simply by deciding which one of them is right or wrong.

It’s fine to feel a bit defensive over them —Day and Night are both good characters— but please don’t equate criticizing either of them with dismissing the characters feelings. Those are not the same thing nor are they mutually exclusive. I am not condemning Day for feeling what he feels and acting out because of it, but I am pointing out that how he’s choosing to react to his feelings is not healthy and is ultimately hurting both his brother and himself. Someone else would not be condemning Night for saying that him not explaining himself better is exacerbating Day's pain, they would simply be pointing out that his lack of communication skills is contributing to the problem and he needs to work on it. Criticism does not equal dismissal of the underlying reasons for why they act the way they do.

Analyzing these behaviours and criticizing them isn’t disrespectful, it’s a process that teaches us how to identify these behaviours in real people and in ourselves. That’s the entire point of stories, the author is trying to convey a message— to teach a lesson. Hopefully one you can take with you once the story is over and apply to your real life.

I don’t want Night OR Day to be stuck hurting each other forever. I like both these characters. I want them to get a happy ending. I hope we can all agree on that much, at least.

most of the time I just keep it moving, it’s true. but when something has 500+ notes of people validating it as Great Meta… and it’s being served up into my feed by someone I follow who seemingly temporarily forgot how to fucking read even in 2024… then yeah I do indeed get a little frustrated by how people in fandom will act like media illiteracy is somehow a form of enlightenment if it sounds good enough instead of approaching it critically and/or realizing it’s perpetuating biphobia (which is why it matters btw). and I do indeed get a little frustrated by how people will act like I’m just trying to create drama if I re-indicate I give any kind of a shit about it no matter my approach
