Making a proper intro post

Rules (and other mildly important stuff)

-Minors do not interact. This account has 18+ content and I often use swears in casual talking. Here. Even if you stay you are warned.

-I am not very online, so asks/rbs/replies can wait for even weeks, but I’ll get to them as soon as I can, promise.

-I’m not exactly comfortable with chatting/getting personal DMs from people I don’t follow/don’t know due to an experience I went through before, so if you have anything to ask about me just send it through the ask box.

-I have respect for all shippers as long as it’s not minor x adult both physically and mentally, relative x relative, abusive etc. If you ship anything like this GO AWAY.

-I do have some ships I hate, and I may speak of them bad or mock them in the account, but I still don’t mind if you ship them. You do you and I do mine.

-I do not want controversies unless they're directly tied to me. Other than that please do not drag me into them unless it's actually needed.

-Okay, so just adding this cause this is my pinned post, but Turkey is currently closing a lot of apps to access cause of reasons I don’t know. If one day I go completely offline, know that I can’t access Tumblr.

Already answered, but I'll just say that I really like late spring because it's not hot, but not too chilly either. Plus at least I can wear my favorite jackets.

23: Do you believe in aliens?

Yes, I believe in aliens in 100%. I absolutely don't think we're the ONLY life in the entire possibly infinite universe. I love anything what's related to space and astrophysics, so I also believe in "little green men". I also love The X Files and so I'm just like Fox Mulder lmao.

What houses do you see Ash and Hazel being sorted into?

What personality traits of Jack and Sage might they inherit?

I’m thinking Ravenclaw for Asher, Gryffindor for Hazel, and maybe they have a third kid (I’m thinking another boy; named: Ian? Hugo? Hugh?; although a girl would be fine too; named: Molly? Shannon? Eleonora?) in Slytherin.

Their kids are all intelligent.

Hazel inherits a bit of Jack’s impulsivity and recklessness, but she never takes it to the degree that Jack did. She’s more capable of thinking things through and doesn’t have the same issues that made Jack act the way he did. Asher inherits Jack’s sociableness. He likes to talk to people and enjoys making friends.

Hazel inherits Sage’s wit. She’s got a really quick wit, which when combined with her impulsivity and recklessness is not a good combination. Asher inherits some of Sage’s perfectionist tendencies. He likes things to be a specific way and needs things to be as close to perfect as he can get it.

Post Craig’s Good Ending. Smashley accepts an invite to a cul-de-sac get together, eager to finally meet the person who’s taken her vacated spot in Craig’s heart. Craig x Dadsona ft. Hugo x Damien. ~2k.

A/N: The mildest of spoilers for Craig’s route. Entirely inspired by @mythicalmodernity‘s theories about college!Craig-MC-Ashley.

D/N = Dadsona’s Name

Joseph’s yard was already bustling by the time Ashley pulled up at the end of the drive. As soon as she climbed out of the car Briar and Hazel came bounding up to her; each was gabbling over the other as they jumped into her arms and she tried not to drop them.

“Woah woah, girls! Come on, you know I’m not your father, I can’t bench press you both.”

They let go, and she knelt down to pull them into a bear hug. It had barely been two weeks since she’d seen them last, but they were still in that stage where they were growing almost before her eyes.

“Now girls, mom’s had a long drive and needs to take advantage of Mr. Christansen’s excellent grillmanship, but after that you gotta catch me up on all the gossip, yeah?”

“Ernest’s dad and Lucien’s dad have been going on dates!” Hazel burst out. Clearly she’d been waiting a long time to break that news to someone new.

Briar hit her sister on the arm, “Shhh, we’re not supposed to know about that!”

“But they’re so obvious about it!” Hazel said indignantly. Ashley scanned the crowd and spotted Hugo and Damien by the food table. They were, indeed, cosied up rather more intimately than she was used to seeing from them.

She grinned and ruffled Hazel’s hair, “If they tell me I’ll act surprised. Maybe you should too, huh? Now where’s your dad and your sister? I should say hi before I dive into the snacks.”

Briar pointed over the opposite side of the yard where Craig was deep in conversation with another man. They were laughing about something, but even from a distance Ashley could see something in Craig’s smile that went deeper than some funny joke.

She pulled her girls in close, “So is that him? Your dad’s new friend?”

“He’s his boyfriend,” said Hazel.

“Not yet he isn’t. They’re just hanging out together,” Briar said.

Hazel scoffed, “Yeah. That’s what dad says.“

"Ah, you know girls,” Ashley said, “You’ll find when you get older sometimes the difference between friend and boyfriend isn’t as obvious as you once thought.”

“Amanda says she saw them kissing,” Hazel offered.

Briar wrinkled her nose, “Eeeewww!”

Ashley laughed and stood back up, “Go on girls; run along and we can talk properly later.”

They twins dashed off across the yard and Ashley made a beeline for Craig, saying hellos and exchanging pleasantries as she went. It had been almost two decades since she’d last seen D/N. God, where had the time gone? It felt like not even last year she’d been running rings around frat boys and watching her boyfriend eat his body-weight in tacos. Now here they all were – responsible adults and parents.

Craig spotted her as she drew closer and waved her over with a grin. D/N turned to her with a slightly less confident smile.

“Smashley! How you doing?” Craig pulled her in for a one-armed hug and she felt herself squish against his rock-solid chest. She’d never gone for the jock types back in college but man, Craig worked it.

“I’m good bro. And how’s my little darling?” She reached out and took River from Craig’s other arm. River gurgled happily. “Oh, you just get bigger ever day don’t you? Your gonna take after your daddy and be huge when you grow up!”

River giggled. God, she could stare at this kid for hours. “You’re not allowed to grow up, you hear me? I couldn’t stop your sisters, but your going to stay my little bean forever. Deal?” She took Rivers tiny hand and shook it. There – no take backs.

Craig cleared his throat, “So Ashley, you uh… you remember D/N right?”

Ashley finally turned her attention away from River. “Course I do. It’s been too long, man, how’ve you been?” She landed a friendly punch on his arm. He held his ground, but he had the look of a hedgehog caught in an unexpected blast of noise. She bit back a smile. Poor kid had never been great with people.

“I’ve been good,” he smiled, recovering slightly, “what about you? I hear the business is really taking off.”

“We were talking about signing D/N on as a model for us,” Craig told her, “Figure we’d pull in more customers if we went down the dad bod angle.”

Ashley barked a laugh, “You gonna let him insult you like that, bro?”

D/N chuckled, “I mean he’s not wrong.”

“See?” Craig said, “Self-awareness. Something you always sucked at.”

“Nothing wrong with a little bit of healthy denial, my dude.”

“Yeah, denial. Not delusion.” Craig reached out to poke her belly and she swatted his hand away. “How do you think I got custody of the girls? Who knows what you’d fill their heads with.”

Ashley looked at D/N, “Hope he’s not this rude to you.”

D/N’s look of bewildered panic was starting to creep back in. She decided to take pity on him, and handed River back to Craig with a kiss to her forehead, “Go check on the girls for me?”

Craig nodded and left, and Ashley took D/N’s elbow. “Walk with me dude.”

They walked around the side of the house and through the passage to the back garden. Everyone was still socializing out front so they had the Christiansen’s beautifully tended flowerbeds to themselves.

Ashley was the first to break the silence. “Do you think they hire a gardener or is this their handiwork?”

“It’s the kind of thing Joseph would be good at,” D/N said, “doesn’t seem Mary’s style. But… well, she’s surprised me before.”

“She pull the drunken floozy act on you too, huh?”

D/N looked at her in surprise, “You too?”

“Believe it bro.”

“When?”

“Couple of years back, when Craig and the girls first moved here. Poor woman, she seems to have a lot going on.”

“Hmm.” D/N fell silent. Ashley couldn’t tell if it was the silence of someone with nothing to say, or someone who didn’t know how to start. She observed him out of the corner of her eye: he was older (weren’t they all?) but she could still see the guy who had impulsively stolen a goldfish for Craig when they were teenagers.

He cleared his throat, “So… how are… things? With you?”

She stopped walking, and turned him round to fully face her, “D/N, things don’t need to be weird between us ‘cause you’re dating my ex-husband.”

His brow furrowed, “Really? Seems like that’s exactly the kind of thing two people who haven’t seen each other since college would wanna be weird about.”

“If things were different with me and Craig, maybe. What’s he told you about our situation?”

“He’s used the word copacetic,” D/N said.

Ashley chuckled, “He’s a smart boy these days.”

“No kidding.”

“He wasn’t lying to make you fell better or anything like that. We really are fine.”

“Are you sure?” The frown is back, “Craig said you only divorced last year.”

“Officially,” Ashley said, “but it was one of those, you know? Relationship was over way before the marriage. Honestly no one was more surprised than us when we had River.”

D/N smiled wryly, “Last throws of a dying relationship, huh?”

"Pretty much. But in the end it’s all about the girls, isn’t it? River’s too young to remember any of this, but Hazel and Briar… They’re the priority.”

“Of course. They’re lucky to have two such loving parents.”

Ashley felt herself blush. “Thanks. We do our best. And hey, the more the merrier, right?”

She clapped D/N on the back and he squeaked in surprise.

“Uh,” he stammered, “we’re, we’re not really – I mean – It… it’s only been a few weeks. And Craig’s been trying to focus more on himself for once.”

Ashley nodded thoughtfully, “I thought he looked more relaxed. Good for him. And you, though I dunno how you talked him into it. Lord knows I never could.” To tell the truth she hadn’t been much better when they were married. The girls came before everything, but occasionally work had come before Craig.

D/N said, “I think a missing sleeping bag played a part somehow.”

Ashley roared with laughter. “That sly little shit. Don’t tell me, he hikes you out into the middle of nowhere and then it’s all 'woah looks like you forgot your sleeping bag bro! Guess we’ll have to snuggle for warmth bro! Oh gosh bro, is that my tongue in your mouth?’”

“He do that to you too?” D/N sounded scandalized, but amusement was tugging at the corners of his mouth.

“Nah, but it is one of the oldest in the book.” She carried on laughing. “Our boy’s never been great at just saying how he feels, has he? Took him months to work up the guts to ask me out.”

“It is pretty obvious in hindsight.” He allowed himself a small, fond smile.

“He ever totally accidentally spill water on himself, forcing him to take his shirt off in front of you?”

“No. I’ll be on my guard for it.”

“Good man.”

They both calmed themselves as they wandered round the far end of the garden. Ashley coughed and looked over at D/N.

“Seriously, man. I’ve spoken to Craig a couple of times over the past few weeks. He’s happier than I’ve seen him in a long time. Briar and Hazel have noticed it too. The two of you might not be serious yet, but… If Craig has any say in it then you will be.”

D/N blushed and smiled. “Obviously Craig is his own person, but… I’m sure the Smashley Seal of Approval would mean a lot to him.”

“Well you got it. It’s been a long time man, but you were a great friend to Craig back in the day. I’ve not forgotten that. All I ask is you be good to him like that again. And you be good to the girls.”

“Oh, I think the girls are more than a match for me.”

“Damn straight. I raise 'em hardy, you know.”

D/N laughed, then became serious. “I… I like Craig a lot. I just want him to be happy. Whatever he needs to find that.”

“Then you and me are gonna be just fine.” Ashley held out her fist. D/N hesitated, then reached out and returned the fistbump with a grin.

Up the other end of the garden the other guests were milling in from the yard and forming a loose scrum around the grill. The smell of cooking meat tinged with lighter fluid reached them, and Ashley’s stomach rumbled as if abruptly remembering the long drive.

Craig came into view chatting to a small ginger child, River on one hip. He glanced over and spotted them, and a second later a radiant smile was spilling across his face as he beckoned D/N over. Something almost like wistfulness curled in Ashley’s chest. He’d never looked at her quite like that – which, on reflection, should perhaps have been their first clue.

“Come on,” she looped an arm around D/N, “let’s go get our burger on. Oh, and I meant to ask, how’s Amanda? She settling in to college alright?”

“She and a group of friends crashed a fancy art event,” D/N said, “they ate a whole bunch of food and tried to pass themselves off as critics before getting kicked out.”

“She takes after her father then?”

“Yes, which unfortunately means I have no authority to tell her off for anything she might do.”

“Could you tell her off for anything anyway? That’s not my experience of teenagers.”

He’s shrugged in acknowledgment, “I can at least say that for a while I tried.”

“Ha! Whatever makes you happy. So aside from being a public nuisance how’s she doing? Craig said she was a photography major?”

D/N told her all about Amanda’s college exploits as they headed back up the garden. Talking about his daughter seemed to light something up in him – the last of his awkwardness was smothered by his evident pride, and Ashley smiled to herself. Her family was in good hands. He might not even need the 'hurt them and I’ll kill you’ talk, though she was sure that once she had a few whiskeys in her he’d be getting it anyway.

They reached the others, and she let D/N peel off and rejoin Craig while she helped herself to a burger and tracked down Briar and Hazel. She found them on the grass with Mat’s kid (Carmensita? Or something? Man, she really needed to get all these names straight) and sat with them.

“So, girls, mom’s ready to hear all the gossip. And then I wanna know about school and softball and everything else, yeah?”

“Is D/N dad’s boyfriend then?” asked Hazel.

“Oh, it’s ’D/N’ is it? Whatever happened to 'Amanda’s Dad’?”

“He’s told us to call him that,” Briar insisted. Hazel nodded.

“Does he tell all the kids to call him that?”

They both hesitated. Then Briar nodded reluctantly.

“He’s doesn’t kiss the other dads though.”

Ashley stifled a laugh, “I certainly hope not. Well, listen girls, you certainly didn’t hear it from me, but I think dad would very much like D/N to be his boyfriend.”

“I knew it!” Briar exclaimed.

“Shut up, Bri, we all knew it.”

“Now now, girls. Are you going to fill me in on the gossip or not?”

That distracted them sufficiently, and Ashley allowed herself to turn all her focus to her daughters.

D/N would be part of the family in no time.

Life is Good chapter 8

So I realized that i posted chapter 9 without posting this one first. So here’s chapter 8.

The day finally came that all young children of the United States look forward to for the entire month of October: Halloween. Craig and Andrew went to work early a couple days in advance so they could leave early that day, pick the kids up from school, cook an early dinner and help them get their costumes ready for trick-or-treating. The entire neighborhood was decked out in Halloween decorations. Even Robert had some Jack-o’-lanterns on the steps leading up to his house and glowing ghosts hanging in his windows.

For Andrew, it had been years since Amanda had gone trick-or-treating, though that hadn’t stopped her from stealing candy from the people who just left their candy out on the front step. He didn’t mind. In his book, if you didn’t want to participate in the fun of Halloween, you shouldn’t leave candy out for anyone to take. He was excited to go out with Craig and his girls and experience the fun and spooky wonder of the holiday.

Right now though, he was trying to get Hazel to stay still so he could apply some green face paint for her Frankenstein’s monster costume. Ever since the night Damien first watched them, Hazel and Briar had been in a horror book phase. They had borrowed all the Goosebumps books from the local and school libraries.

“Hazel, if you want to be Frankenstein’s monster you have to stop squirming every time I put on the face paint,” he said.

“You’re not even painting my face,” she cried. “My hands aren’t my face!”

“Just be grateful we aren’t in Florida,” he said. “We’d have to apply more to account for the sweat. And you’d be wearing short sleeves instead of long ones, so we’d need even more.”

“Florida sounds terrible,” she said. “I’m glad we live in Maine.”

Andrew chuckled and got another dollop of green face paint to apply to her other hand. “Me too, kiddo. Me too.”

Craig popped in, apparently finished with Briar’s costume. He was dressed as Thor (the Chris Hemsworth version, anyway), complete with the long, red cape, a blond wig, and a plastic hammer. Andrew was trying to behave, but it was difficult when he firmly believed in taking every available opportunity to admire his bro’s muscles. He had nice muscles.

“You two ready to go?” he asked.

“Yeah, just gotta get this stuff off my hands and I’ll be ready,” Andrew said.

“What are you going as, dad?” Hazel asked.

Craig gestured at his suit. “I’m Thor, the superhero,” he said.

Hazel shook her head. “Not you, dad. The other one.”

Andrew and Craig exchanged a glance. “I guess I’m the other one,” he said, smiling.

Craig chuckled and rubbed his neck. “Yeah, we’re gonna have to find a different name for you,” he replied. “How do you feel about ‘Pops’ or ‘Papa’?”

Andrew thought for a moment. “Well, Amanda has called me ‘Pops’ for years now, it seems special between us,” he mused. “I think I’d like to be called ‘Papa.’”

Craig turned to his daughter. “Here that? From now on, I’m Dad and he’s Papa.”

Hazel nodded. “Okay, but can Papa get dressed? I’m ready to get candy,” she whined.

Craig laughed and picked up his daughter and carried out of the room. “Don’t sass your Papa, now,” he said.

I can get used to this, Andrew thought. But maybe after we’re done trick-or-treating. He started getting dressed in his Hawkeye costume. Andrew decided that if his bro’s twins were going to be matching, then he could go along with whatever theme Craig decided to go as. Thankfully, there were no shortages of Marvel Cinematic Universe costumes to be found on the Internet and the one he got in the mail last week fit.

Life is good, he thought.

The neighborhood was packed with trick-or-treaters. Andrew had a funny feeling that it was due in part to the fact that Damien’s house looked like something from the Addams family, and so perpetually observing Halloween. As they made their way around the neighborhood, Mary was drinking wine and actually looked to be enjoying herself. She actually smiled as she asked the kids who they were and put whole Snickers bars in their Jack-o’-lantern buckets. Andrew was a bit surprised that the candy wasn’t wrapped in Bible verses, but he was still getting used to a youth pastor who wasn’t a Bible thumper, though he made a mental note to come back around after they were done. Anyone who gave out whole candy bars was worth a return trip.

Hugo was having fun jumping out and scaring kids in a luchador outfit, complete with a mask and everything after Ernest gave them candy. Though he spared Craig’s kids. Andrew grinned at his trivia partner.

“Having fun getting revenge?” he asked.

Hugo laughed. “Serves some of the little rascals right,” he declared. “And my son is having a blast, too. He hasn’t blown up one trash can or lit one dumpster on fire… yet.”

Craig laughed. “Good luck, dude, and try not to have too much fun!”

Hugo pulled his mask back down over his face and walked back in the house to take his place for the next victi—kids, rather. Kids. Not victims. “I think I’ll manage somehow,” he called after them.

Next up was Brian, who had a bob for apples station in the front yard and was dressed as a police officer. And wrapped candy apples for the kids who couldn’t quite manage to get one. Andrew resisted the urge to talk about past Halloween accomplishments that may or may not have actually occurred. But as soon as he saw the bob for apples station he looked at Craig. He didn’t even have to say anything.

“Bro, I’ve got this,” he boasted. “Hold River.” He unstrapped River from his chest (there was something really domestically hot about Craig dressed as Thor with River on his chest like always). She was dressed as a, what had Amanda called the costume she sent? A… Pikachu? Yeah that was it. It was cute, whatever it was. They made sure to get a picture for Amanda. She cooed as she played with Arnold.

He approached the metal bin and set his wig down beside him. He braced himself on the edge of the bin, took a deep breath, and plunged his head beneath the surface. A moment later he emerged with a golden apple in his mouth and the bystanders cheered. Brian held out a towel for him to dry his hair off on and shouted. “Folks we have a winner!” His prize, apparently, was a huge, two by four Hershey’s chocolate bar, which Craig looked at in amazement, and a little bit of horror. Andrew, Briar, and Hazel cheered wildly at the beautiful sight of the magnificent chocolate bar.

Craig walked back over to his family only to be attacked by his twins hugging his legs. “You did it, daddy! You did it!” they chorused.

“Bro,” he said as they walked away with their treasure. “how are we gonna eat all this chocolate?”

Andrew laughed, “Oh you of little faith.”

They walked back to the house and dropped off the chocolate bar (which was heavier than it looked) and continued with their trick or treating. Next up was Mat, who was playing spooky music on the front lawn and handing out packs of chocolate covered espresso beans. A treat for the kids, a trick for the parents all in one. Pablo and some other teens were dancing to Thriller in the yard. Pablo broke formation long enough to wave at Andrew before getting back to it.

Robert had his candy out on his front porch. Hell yeah, extras, Andrew thought. “Kids, make sure to grab extra candy from this one.”

Craig frowned. “Uuh, bro… I don’t think that’s a good idea.”

“Relax bro,” he replied. “What’s the worst that could happen?”

At that very moment a huge hairy creature jumped out of the bushes near the candy. Briar and Hazel screamed. Andrew might have too, he wasn’t sure. The three of them hid behind Craig (and River). Craig grinned and pointed his hammer at the monster. “Hey dude,” he said in his best Thor voice, “not cool.”

The beast laughed and removed his head. It was Robert. Of course it was.

“Good job, Papa,” Hazel said.

“What’d I do?” Andrew demanded.

“Mr. Small always scares people who try to take extra candy,” Briar said glaring pointedly at Andrew.

“It’s true,” Robert said. “Gotta make sure the youngsters toe the line, follow the rules.”

“You hate rules,” Andrew retorted safely from behind Craig.

“Yeah, gotta stick it to the establishment,” Robert replied. “But I don’t want kids ending up like me.”

“Fair enough.”

Robert walked over to them and knelt down in front of the girls and held up a couple candy bars. “Here, sorry for scaring you. You’re good kids.” he said. He put his mask back on and got back in the bushes.

“What do you say to Mr. Small, girls?” Craig asked.

“Thank you!”

He turned to his boyfriend and smirked. “He got you good, didn’t he?”

Andrew huffed. “I have no idea what you’re talking about. It was all part of the act.”

“Uh-huh. Sure, bro,” Craig said. “Don’t worry, I’ll protect you. Brotect you!”

“My hero.”

Last up was Damien, who was sitting out on his front porch with a crystal ball and a deck of tarot cards. The house was, more or less, unchanged but there were ghostly decorations and a large bowl of candy. As they approached the Victorian house, the house that might have given some kids the creeps, the twins ran up fearlessly.

“Trick-or-treat!” they cried.

“Oh dear! Dr. Frankenstein and his monster!” Damien replied in mock fright, “Please don’t hurt this humble fortuneteller!” He held out the bowl of candy to appease the monsters in front of him.

“Thank you!” they chorused.

“Mr. Bloodmarch,” Briar said, “are we near the end of the story?”

“Almost,” he replied, gazing into his crystal ball. “I see that we shall soon arrive at the long awaited conclusion of our thrilling tale of the modern Prometheus. Prepare yourselves.” The twins gasped, smiles spreading over their faces with the prospect of hearing how the story would end.

“I guess that means that we’ll be going on a date, soon,” Andrew smiled. “Not that I mind.”

Craig leaned in. “Who says we have to go out?” he asked. “We could always stay in. With some wine, some chocolate. Just you and me, bro. And the bed.”

Andrew moaned quietly. “Bro, never mind, that sounds wonderful.”

The rest of the night passed more or less uneventfully. They left the neighborhood and went trick-or-treating in the area around their neighborhood. Eventually Andrew and Craig ended up carrying the buckets that finally became too heavy for the twins. They finally ended up heading back to the house when Briar was tired and Andrew picked her up and set her on his shoulders. When they got back they deposited Briar in the twins’ bedroom and got Hazel into the shower so she could wash off the green body paint on her face and hands.

Andrew and Craig inspected the girls’ candy and deeming it all safe, put it on the top shelf of the pantry so they wouldn’t be able to eat the whole thing at once. They went to the living room and turned the tv on. The Addams Family was playing, a perfect, not scary Halloween movie. Andrew thought about the evening he had with his family, how they were calling him Papa now, the family they formed in the past few months. It was so good. He couldn’t remember being so happy since his husband had died. He took Craig’s hand and leaned back against his chest. They stayed that way until they both drifted off to sleep.

Author’s Note: Thank you for requesting this fic! I’ve seen way too many Joker movies, so I might’ve messed up his personality a teeny tiny bit. Anyway, hope you enjoy it!

The night is very, very silent. Nothing could be heard, not even the flowing of the wind. All of the best criminal minds have either gone missing, been arrested or have been killed. Gotham has never been this quiet in years, if not decades. Both Harley and Joker were sitting on the couch. With no one to distract them from their dastardly deeds what more could they do?

J was sitting pensively, thinking of any plan or people that would shake up the city and start a new wave of crime that would return the old chaotic feeling back, the true state of Gotham. He had a list of papers he had “borrowed” from a police station many years ago. It had a list of every evildoer in the city and where they were. This wasn’t a small piece of handiwork either. It was piles on top of piles of paperwork, and, like mentioned beforehand, these “gentlemen” couldn’t be contacted in any way, shape or form. He sighed loudly while looking at the ceiling and slowly started moving his hazel-nut eyes into Harley’s general direction. She was bored out of her mind – an extroverted maniac not being able to release her pent up insanity is psychologically degrading. If he had to be honest, he didn’t know how he had handled her for so long. She is uncontrollable and unpredictable and, although he liked that, he was starting to see her true face after being stuck inside for so long. They could always go into hiding but she refused to, she didn’t want to give up her life of crime, she didn’t want to be normal again, or “boring”, as she’d say. He’d rather not think about that now, it’ll only make him even more anxious, knowing that the world wasn’t in the palm of his hands and all because of her, no less.

Harley was wildly swinging her comically large mallet from side to side. It had dried blood on both ends and it thirsted for more. Unfortunately, however, she couldn’t satisfy its quench. Her hair had regained milky blond color and her face was the same silky white as the day she was born. J’s accessories had also degraded over time, his suit was growing a duller shade of purple and his hair was growing brown again.

- Jaaaaaaaaaay, I’m boooooooored, let’s do something fun!

- I know, Q, I know. It’s just been very uh… hard this past couple of months, you see? – He said exhaled profusely and dropped his paper on his desk. – We can’t really do anything, if you uh… think about it. All of our former allies are gone and the bat’s been missing for a really long while now. I wouldn’t be surprised if he had uh… died of old age at this point.

- Oh, oh, I know! Let’s give those pesky billionaires a real handful, at least then we’d have more money to buy more things! Maybe even some associates? – She excitedly said, with a glimmer in her eye. That glimmer had been missing for a long time. Perhaps if he could maybe keep that tiny glint of hope in her she would come up with an actual plan in the meanwhile.

- No, no, that’d be too easy. C’mon, Q, I know you’re better than that. – If he had to be honest he didn’t have much hope left, either. But you miss one hundred percent of the shots you don’t take.

- Uhhh, how abooooout we go up north? I heard there were some odd looking fellows up in Philly!

- Wait, really? – He said while his eyes grew wider, he was genuinely surprised. He had been searching through papers for days and he only heard about it now. He wondered what else she could be hiding from him, so he tried to push her a little further.

- Oh, I’m sorry, I must’ve forgotten. – She giggled for a bit – They say that man with a weird looking beard is prophesizing that Bruce Wayne and Batman are the same person, but we know the truth, don’t we?

- Wait, do you mean Hugo Strange? That guy’s uh… older than I am.

- Yeah! That one! – She said, enthusiastically, while kicking her feet on the couch like an overexcited child – He wanted to come over and visit us, it was supposed to be a suprise! – She started twirling her hair and rolling her big eyes – Maybe he could help us? I don’t know…

- He will, don’t worry. He’s, uh… a little old friend of mine.

- He hasn’t said anything for a long time, though… Maybe we should pay him a visit!

- Yeah, I’d love that. – He briefly paused while looking at his papers. Out of all the criminals, why did he escape in particular? He’d guess the reason for his survival was his normal appearance and job, even though he lost his mind trying to fulfill his vendetta.

- C’mon J! We don’t have all day, get ready to rock!

She was finally happy again, after being at a standstill for so long. Her mallet gained new life as well. It was swinging recklessly, anticipating action weeks in advance. Being stuck at home does change people, unfortunately, for better or for worse. She went into the bathroom so she could ready herself up for tomorrow. After all, the makeup wasn’t going to put itself on. J also had to get some preparations ready. Before leaving, he had to gather up some goons who’d accept and follow his almost messianic reawakening. Hugo Strange was not a force to be reckoned with, even though their unpredictability was an advantage. So, knowing this, J thought he needed strength in numbers and, considering the state which things were in, these low-level scums would suffice.

As soon as the sun poked its head out of the horizon they both decided to tread silently through Gotham. They didn’t know if Batman was alive and they didn’t want to find that out, either. So, as tranquil as the night, they left the city as fast as they could just so they could pay an old friend a visit. This was, undoubtedly, going to be an interesting reunion.

What do I have here? An excuse to rant and rave (and fangirl a little) about books I love, for an unprecedented amount of time? Sign me up lads.

First thing’s first – I am physically incapable of choosing one favourite book. Rather, I will list several favourites, along with the pile of books on my TBR, categorising by genre (because I am a nerd). Lets do this!

Young Adult Contemporary Fiction

- Looking For Alibrandi, by Melina Marchetta: (A YA Contemporary written by the Aussie queen herself, Melina Marchetta. Following Italian-Australian Josie’s coming of age story as she grapples with family, identity, and home, this novel will forever be a favourite.)

- Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, by Benjamin Alire Saenz: (This is Ari and Dante’s beautiful, lyrically written story of love, family and identity. It is one that I have found myself rereading time and time again.)

- I’ll Give You The Sun, by Jandy Nelson: (We follow the perspectives of twins Noah and Jude over two different timelines. It is not only about their journeys of self-discovery, but also about the family tragedy that tore them apart.)

Young Adult/New Adult/Adult Fantasy

- The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue, by Mackenzi Lee: (A YA Fantasy Historical Fiction full of romance, magic, adventure, pirates, witty banter, near death situations and 18th Century fabulousness!)

- The Diviners, by Libba Bray: (A ghost murder mystery following a cast of psychic characters set in 1920s New York City … it is a big yes from me.)

- Pachinko, by Min Jin Lee: (A historical family saga through four generations of a Korean family who seek a better home, watch the home they left become divided and unrecognisable, live through the struggle of war and the political turmoil of Japanese colonisation. This novel is both a fictional and true story. It was fascinating and heart wrenching and powerful – definitely one that stands out as a favourite.)

- The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, by Annie Barrows and Mary Ann Shaffer: (Exploring both the hardships of war and the power of literature, this novel follows an English author as she finds herself post WW2 on the Guernsey Channel Islands amidst the one-of-a-kind Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society – aka the coolest book club in town.)

- The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, by Taylor Jenkins Reid: (An intricate, enthralling, eye-opening novel with constant cliff-hangers that led to me sacrificing many hours of sleep for answers.)
