Was practicing for a painting I have to do for school, also just how massive the Red death was is a pretty cool thing

To be honest my hopes about this live action were never high in the first place but with each trailer they release I only get more disappointed.

The red death.... why is she like that? 😭😭😭 Especially from the front view, her face looks so oddly shaped. She somehow looks less intimidating than the original.

Also, Toothless's facial expressions in each trailer look very awkward, like hes trying to emote but he can't because his facial muscles are so bulky. He looks constipated.

So far the dragon designs are not leaving a good impression on me and I hope the actors can make up for it. 🥲😔

so I have come to an important revelation about httyd while working on fanfic (again) -

when hiccup is standing on the docks at the end of the first movie, watching all the ships leave, he's obviously devastated. he's lost toothless and stoick, his best friend and father, all in... an hour or two? those are good reasons to be devastated.

but I bet he's also upset because he knows what the red death can do - and he thinks his whole village is going to die fighting it. because ordinary vikings can't stand a chance against something like that. and everyone very nearly did die - if hiccup & the riders hadn't shown up, or had come just a few minutes later, stoick & everyone else would have been dead.

Fun fact, your art is what made me realize the Red Death is a female

...I didn't she was a male or anything, I just don't think I ever really questioned her gender, I just knew she was dead, idk 🧍‍♂️

Fair enough lmao. It was always just an assumption that she was female to me cuz of the whole hive mind dynamic she had going on with the dragons in httyd1, but from what I’ve read she is a female :)

Potential Feud? (HTTYD 1 Theory)

You know, when I rewatched the first film again and came to this scene, it kinda gave me pause and wondered if there was something more to this than meets the eye.

For instance, here, when we see Stoick's expression after he sees a practical incarnation of Jormangandur, it's like he's awakened an ancestral memory, and remembers the old stories his forefathers told him about this beast. Perhaps this exact creature came to their ancestral home and burned them out, forcing them to flee to Berk. And this was almost a repeat from that time.

What do you guys think? Think it's possible that something similar happened to them in the past? Or am I looking too much into this?

why is the red death called the red death. isn’t she blue

Okay some toys got revealed and we got a better look at the new Red death.

Obviously, with it being a toy, it's not a perfect reflection of the design will see in the movie but at least give us an idea of what to expect.

Overall, the design doesn't deviate too far from the original. bulky build, chunky tail, and a row of spikes with a couple of broken ones. A difference I noticed is that it's a lot more compact than the animated one with a larger head in proportion to its body, my guess is that they took inspiration from ceratopsian dinosaurs since that the closest thing to a real life counterpart you can get to this dragon

Now onto the head, which has changed dramatically, instead of a boxy head with a strong underbite, smaller nose horn, large teeth, and a coral like head frill. The one in the remake has a head that ends with a beak like shape, a strong brow ridge that sits above the eyes, longer nose horn, a frill that looks more like tree bark that has a second layer and most surprisingly rows of teeth kinda like a shark.

When it comes to colors, it seems that the live action will be alot more drab than it's blueish gray counterpart but will sport a red head crest that seems to trail a bit more down the dragons back and on the tip of the wings. Additionally instead of light blue eyes, the eyes will green.

Quick little sidenote, they referred to it as Titan Red Death, not sure if that just to market the toy or if the movie will confirm that the red death is a titan wing
