Did Astrid Inherit Stoick's Axe? (HTTYD 3 Theory)
Hello, everyone! Today we'll dive into another HTTYD 3 topic that's been on my mind for a while now.
It's after I saw this ax.
Tumblr media
Like, this seriously surprised me when I first watched this. I was already used to her usual ax, so I thought it'd just be her ax — a gift from Hiccup after losing her other one at the end of RTTE — that she normally fights with, like here. 👇🏻
Tumblr media
In the beginning, when the Riders go for one of their many raids to free dragons, we see Astrid fighting with her normal ax.
But in much of the film, we see her using the ax that suspiciously looks like Stoick's ax.
At first, I had thought she was using Hunter axes, but she's been using that ax throughout her fights with the remnants of Drago's minions.
Tumblr media
Another example is the scene down below, during their final battle against their foes, we see Astrid with that ax again.
Tumblr media
This is seriously making me think that this is Stoick's ax that she inherited, having switched her old ax for his! 👀 Which would be so cool and so touchingly wholesome. 😭
Of course, another option is that she just has another ax on standby made in likeness of Stoick's ax thanks to Gobber. 🤷‍♂️
But I actually really like the idea of Astrid inheriting the ax of her father-in-law. I think it's super wholesome. 🥰😭
What do you guys think? Do you find the theory plausible?
Long Live the Night!

The Medium of Animation💖 - a powerful way of Storytelling with Art
Animation is a beautiful way of Storytelling and Art. There is so much love and passion put in this works. Animating things is not easy, this why we have to give credit to the artist who created these magnificent movies with their creative hands. AI can’t do such beautiful works like the httyd-trilogy or Frozen. Animation is not only special because of its power of storytelling but also of its emphasis on Art. These Animator’s, who animated all these films and series are artists.
Because of these movies and the ones that will follow we have to defend the medium of animation and all his creators. Animation will be more respected in the future, if we appreciate it more and show it to other people. Maybe their is a chance that Animation will be in the coming future not only seen as a fun entertainment just for kids but as a medium were everyone can relate to. The Medium of Animation has so much to offer. Hope it will be seen.
Also fight me animated sequels have better quality than the LA ones, except for the Jurassic Park trilogy. Man JP3 was scary and funny and stupid but I loved it anyway.

Is the Light Fury Based on a Book Character(s)? (HTTYD 3)
Tumblr media
Warning: Spoilers for those who either haven't read the books or having read books 10-12.
Greetings and well met, my fellow Dragonmarkers!
Today is the start of ONE of my new article series that I promised to start working on for you guys!
Today's first topic will be diving into the possibility on whether or not the Light Fury is based loosely on a book character as well.
Now, as you guys know, my opinion of the Light Fury is a little on the low side since the trailer. Not only because I've seen Light Furies since the first film came out (thank you, fanfiction and fanart 2010 and up), but also because of the obvious sexual dimorphism that they've created between Toothless and the Light Fury that you never see in other dragon species — which, in my opinion, is a bit of an insult. And her feminine-like physicality and seemingly OP skills.
DreamWorks, be honest, you took this character from the fanbase, didn't you? 😒😑
Would it have killed them to give us another Night Fury? 😭
But, to save time and to prevent you from listening to old rants and explanations from previous articles, I'm moving on.
There's been several theories and headcanons that I've been voicing as to explain her appearance physically and canonly-speaking in the past, but most of them have been shot down by metaphorical bola-launchers manned by Hiccups in the form of Dreamworks. Thank you, Dreamworks! (Notice the sarcasm)
However, recently, I've been re-reading the books and I've noticed something peculiar that never struck me before.
What if the Light Fury isn't as random as I had thought? That she isn't just something that Dreamworks implemented from the fandom in order to please the fans or created for the sole purpose of being Toothless's mate? What if she was inspired — as many HTTYD characters are — from the books?
The reason why I suddenly was struck by this though was by what Dean DeBlois stated: "That we will be basing a lot of the third part of Hiccup's story on the last book of the series: Book 12," to paraphrase heavily here.
He said that they'll be basing the third film to be loyal to the twelfth and final book of the series: How to Fight a Dragon's Fury. (Which, by the way, wasn't really the case.)
So, if this is true, then is the Light Fury a possible nod to the books? That's what we're here to hopefully find out.
Two Possible Influences:
There are two dragon characters that the Light Fury could possibly be inspired by:
The Silver Phantom — a powerful dragon species that shows up in books 10-12 (as well as the Complete Book of Dragons)
And Luna, a Seadragonus Giganticus Maximus who's Furious's second-in-command and eventually Ruler of the dragons when a dying Furious names her as his successor and leaves for the Great Ocean (the author left it open-ended for the reader to decide whether he lives or not).
These two are not only female dragons, but dragons that are closest to what could've inspired the Light Fury that I could find.
I'm going to begin by discussing the Silver Phantom and the Light Fury and their similarities and differences. Then I'll do Luna and the Light Fury.
Now, please keep in mind that these upcoming reasons of the possibilities of the Light Fury sharing inspiration from one or both of these dragons are pure speculation, hypotheses, guesswork, and assumptions. So please take these words with a grain of salt.
If you think that I am wrong at any points or to improve any points, please let me know. I don't claim to have or know all the answers or that everything that comes out of my mouth is 110% accurate. I'm just making speculative reasonings and theories to try to better understand certain characters out of my love for this fandom.
So on to the Silver Phantom!
<><><><><><><><><><>
Similarities Between the Light Fury and the Silver Phantom:
Tumblr media
The Silver Phantom is first mentioned in Book 10: "How to Seize a Dragon's Jewel", where it's waiting for Hiccup and his dragons in ambush. We find out later that it's the Riding Dragon of Valhallarama, Hiccup's questing mother. It's nameless and doesn't talk (similar to Humungous Hotshot's dragon in book 5: "How to Twist a Dragon's Tale"), unlike other Riding Dragons. Though, I'm sure that's because of irrelevance to the plot of the story.
The stats on the picture say 7 for Size and 8 for Disobedience, though in the stats in the 10th book for the Silver Phantom, it says that all of its categories are a 10. I'm not sure how to account for this, on whether or not if this is a mistake. Or if it's dependent on gender. However, the 10th book was published in 2012, while The Complete Book of Dragons was published somewhere between 2013-2014, so I'm guessing that Cressida changed the stats a bit?
So here are some possible reasons as to why the Silver Phantom and the Light Fury might be similar and why the latter could be loosely-inspired by the former.
1) Both dragons seem to have similar colored scales.
Both dragons seem to have scales of a silvery-white hue, as both of them are sparkly and glowing.
In page 23 of Chapter 1 in Book 10, it says:
"Even though it was in the dead of night, every silver scale was lit up and shone brighter than was strictly possible in real life. The Silver Phantom seemed to give off its own light, like the moon.  "Its scream was so high and so loud that Hiccup felt as if it were setting fire to his ears. And as the dragon screamed, it poured out a jet of bright blue flames that blasted the trees in front of it, burning the leaves as bright as green stars before they dropped to the ground in powdery black smithereens."
The Light Fury seems to glow in a similar way, though her scales seem to be nonexistent and more reflective than the Silver Phantom's. Now, the Light Fury doesn't breathe blue/purple flame (the film seems to show that she breathes a regular plasma blast with the normal color of fire, not a bluish-white color), but Toothless does. So I believe that the Fury family could easily be based on this particular dragon, as they can fly in high altitudes, and (the Night Furies, at least) can breathe blue/purple flame, and are the fastest in the dragon world in the movie franchise.
2) Both dragons seem to be rare.
Tumblr media
It's described in page 1 of Chapter 1 as being "an Air Dragon of the purest silver — very, very rare and very, very dangerous."
In Book 10 and in The Complete Book of Dragons, Hiccup says that the Silver Phantom is a very rare dragon. However, in the latter book, it shows Hiccup the First, the second and third Hiccups' ancestor, riding on the back of a female Silver Phantom—which according to Hiccup the Third is very rare. So I'm not sure if Cressida is saying that the Silver Phantom as a species is very rare, or just the females. Or maybe because there are few females, that the Phantoms as a species can't reproduce as quickly and so their numbers were dwindling.
Or maybe during the previous two Hiccups' times, they weren't so rare, but they're rare now in Hiccup the Third's time?
Regardless of the reason, they're a rare species of dragon, and a Viking who has this dragon as its Riding Dragon would definitely be getting a big rise in social status. Valhallarama is the only known Viking in the series to ride a Silver Phantom as their riding dragon. There's also Hiccup the First, but it's not known whether the female Silver Phantom he's riding was allowing him to ride her for a temporary period, or if she was another riding dragon for him. There's no mention in the series of anyone having more than one Riding Dragon. Many Vikings are known to have more than one Hunting Dragon—or just more than one dragon in general—but there's no evidence of any Vikings having more than one Riding Dragon. Wodensfang said in Book 9 that he was Hiccup the First's blood brother and Riding Dragon. So, because of the lack of evidence of Vikings having more than one Riding Dragon, I'm assuming that's because you can only have one at a time, while you can have multiple Hunting Dragons.
Now, concerning the Light Fury, Dean DeBlois has said that "she is not the last of her kind," when talking about the Light Fury. However, you can take that with a grain of salt. For one thing, he says, "not the last of her kind." It doesn't say that they're not rare or endangered, nor does it say that female Light Furies aren't rare. However, I can't say with 110% certainty because neither the movie nor the behind-the-scenes vids have come out to prove this, nor is there any certainty of there being any concrete information in the film even if it does come out. Informative, and quite possibly visual, evidence on Light Furies and Night Furies will probably be scant if at all existent.
3) Both dragons seem to be super fast.
In pages 32-33, it speaks of the Silver Phantom's speed:
"Over the past year they had often eluded dragon pursuers by climbing up into the higher air, too high for the other dragons to follow. Most dragons prefer shallow air, the air nearest the ground. Very few can operate in the higher atmosphere. "Apart from the Silver Phantom. ". . . The Phantom was an Air Dragon. They were among the best flyers in the dragon world, and they flew the fastest and the highest."
In Page 307 of Chapter 27, the Phantom's speed is confirmed and the dragon is said to be "the fastest riding dragon in open skies."
Now, since she's part of the Fury family of Dragons, I'm assuming that she's really fast—as fast as Toothless if not more so (which might be the latter since he's encumbered with flight equipment, while she doesn't have such encumberments).
The Fury family of Dragons seem to be the fastest dragons in the dragon world, as Hiccup and Dreamworks have stated several times, and is mentioned in the book of dragons. Which makes me not help but wonder if the Night Furies weren't somewhat inspired by the Silver Phantom species.
Now, again, these are just speculative hypotheses at the moment, and probably won't ever be proven.
Now, on to Luna!
<><><><><><><><><><>
Similarities Between the Light Fury and Luna the Sea-Dragon:
Tumblr media
(Second_Only_To_The_Dragon_Furious_by_Grim1978)
.
Luna, Second-in-Command of Furious, King of the Dragons:
Now, this latter character is who I personally believe that the Light Fury is based on, in my opinion. I'll explain as I go along.
1) Both dragons are of the same species as their respective Toothlesses.
In the 12th Book: "How to Fight a Dragon's Fury", Luna is described in Page 76 of Chapter 4 as "a luminously beautiful Sea-Dragon slightly smaller than himself (Furious), known as Luna."
In the books, "Sea-Dragon" is a term often used to describe the Seadragonus Giganticus Maximus (due to the first part of their species' scientific name, I think), a massive Sea-Dragon species that are arguably the most dangerous dragons known in the dragon world. That, and they're also quite possibly the largest dragons in the dragon world—hence why Furious is King of the Dragons. Size and ferocity are very important for an Alpha, in a similar aspect to lions and wolves, etc.
Anyway, it's been revealed in Book 11: "How to Betray a Dragon's Hero", that Toothless is a Seadragonus Giganticus Maximus, and NOT a Common or Garden Dragon, making him akin to other SGMs such as Wodensfang, Furious, Luna, Merciless/Green Death, and Purple Death (Book 1).
Meanwhile, the Light Fury, while not a Night Fury, is of the same family as the latter and are very close cousins. And since both the Light Fury and Toothless are Furies, and Toothless is loosely inspired from the Book!Toothless, who is a Seadragonus Giganticus Maximus (or a Sea-Dragon) like Luna, it makes sense that the Light Fury might be based on Luna, however slightly.
2) Both dragons have glowing white scales.
In the same page and the same chapter, the narrator (Hiccup) further describes Luna as such: "She was so-called because she glowed with light like the moon. She lit up the dark storm clouds all around, and waves of heat pulsed out of her, so that the rain smoked and hissed when it landed on her shining body."
Now the Light Fury doesn't have glowing scales; her scales are more sparkly or glittery than anything. But in certain environments under certain exposure of light in a particular angle, it does look like that her scales are glowing in a sense. Unlike Luna, the Light Fury seems to copy the Deadly Shadow's and the Changewing's cloaking abilities, though in a smaller and more temporary sense, and having to use her plasma blasts to activate it.
3) Both dragons become rulers.
In Pages 415 and 421 on Chapter 26, Furious gives his Alpha-ship to Luna before he swims away into the Great Ocean, either awaiting death or even surviving the venomous injury he acquired from the Witch. And Luna then becomes the new Alpha of the Dragons and rules the Dragons for the rest of her days (which are very long indeed, even well past the end of the series.)
Now, here's my theory and headcanon for the third film concerning the Light Fury: That the Light Fury either 1) is Alpha of her own thunder (term for flock of dragons) as Toothless is when they find her and somehow got separated, 2) she'll become co-Alpha when she becomes Toothless's mate, or 3) Toothless, like Furious, ends up giving his Alpha-ship to another—namely the Light Fury—so that he can stay with Hiccup.
What do you guys think? Which do you think is plausible?
<><><><><><><><><><>
Conclusion:
So that's my thoughts about the Light Fury. What do you guys think? Think that any of this is plausible? Do you think that she might be inspired by the Silver Phantom or Luna or a little bit of both? Anything that I got wrong and needs correcting? What are your thoughts on this?
(Personally, I still think that the Light Fury is a fanbase add-on by DreamWorks.)
Again, this is just a theory since I can't prove any of this. So if you have any thoughts you'd like to give me to prove or disprove this or to add to this that I didn't think of, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks again for your time and for reading this, as well as any comments that you might post. I appreciate the feedback and support!
If you guys have anyone specific you'd like me to write an article about in this comparison series, let me know.

More httyd book conspiracy theories
Tumblr media
Been thinking about the prophecy. It says MY Roman shield, Not A Roman shield but MY Roman shield. However as far as we know Hiccup was just given a random roman shield I think.
Grimbeard had a past with the Romans where he stole a shield and they got it back and kept it for a century. (I mean, stealing something back from one of the greatest pirates to ever live is impressive)
It's literally just a random Roman shield and since the guardian was just feeling it with his hands (like the jewel) he made a mistake, and somewhere out there, a lost thing is still lost.
but I would love to hear other theories

like, Stoick's rule was depicted to be more democratic in nature than Hiccup's, more like in Athens or Novgorod. Hiccup on the other hand is shown to hold council only with those few chosen ones and then just announce everything to his subjects. yes, subjects, because here we can see an early form of monarchy. i don't know what motivated them to evolve their political status. maybe, the sheer amount of people and dragons, that would be nearly impossible to manage with the older form of government. who knows.
but just imagine what crisis is waiting for them. they still all dine in the main hall, as if they are still equal - but they're not. the chief is further and further away from the Hooligans, and they notice that, but he's still treated like equal - which he isn't. it's like witnessing a transition of Roman republic to Roman empire (a bit of a stretch, but you get my point)

The Rise of a King, Hiccup - Part 2
Summarizing part 1, Stoick is overprotective (in HTTYD 1) and that overprotectiveness has limited Hiccup from: Being able to connect well with other people in the village, which is important to any leader (future or current) Prevented the development of his already incredible aptitude for leadership and invention. (Potentially, this protectiveness could be the reason Hiccup has less muscle…

The Dragons from HTTYD were already trained!
(Just a theory...)
In the first movie, Gobber states that 'dragons will always go for the kill', which is debatable because of the bias against dragons, but also because we see the dragons in the training arena NOT go for the kill' several times.
1- Meatlug- while yes she was shooting lava blasts at the kids, but all of her shots hit their shields. Especially when Fishlegs raised his shield above his head, she could have definitely hit him if she wanted to. And finally when she had Hiccup pinned against the wall, she paused. Granted it could be the director making the moment dramatic, but the only in universe explanation would be that she didn't want to hit him, and could hear Gobber coming to Hiccup's rescue. And speaking of Gobber, you're going to tell me that she didn't even take a shot at the one person in the arena with no shield?
2- Stormfly- this girl honestly looks like she's having a good time. Again she's taking very close shots, but she also doesn't seem to be taking it seriously. She even takes a moment to laugh at Snotlout's bad throw.
3- Barf and Belch- these two (one?) didn't even attack with teeth or claws. They let out some gas and sparks, but never actually ignited it. The only aggression they showed was knocking the kids down and getting scared of the eel.
4- the terrible terror was just a menace, but hey, tiny is allowed to be angry.
Point is, none of these dragons 'went for the kill' but why? And how does this tie into them being already "trained"?
We don't know how long those 4 were held captive. Had they been there for years? Had they seen/heard what happens when a dragon does maul a teenager to death? Training to fight dragons is dangerous, but you can't expect a Viking parent just to let the dragon that killed their kid live.
So the dragons were subconsciously trained.
Fight, act aggressive, but don't kill or you will be killed. Give the kids enough practice and the rest of the time you'll be left alone.

HTTYD BOOK X EPIC THE MUSICAL CROSSOVER PROJECT THEORY
Your friendly neighbourhood conspiracy theorist is back with a more in depth update. I made an update talking more about my theory in my original post in the comments, but I have decided to make it into it’s own post with some amendments and new updates.
There are 6 main blogs I will be talking about which will be referred to by the numbers 1 through 6 (sorry if this makes it confusing) (I am also changing numbering from the og comment).
My investigation started with 1 (an account I’ve been following for a while that posts a lot of httyd book related content) reblogging a post from 2 on the the 21st stating "Hello there tumblr, this is a side blog for a …… project." Based on the comments and reblogs, I was able to confirm another blog (3) as a part of this, and a potential other blog (4). The connection between these four blogs has been further proven through likes, replies, and reblogging each other’s content.
I suspected blog 5 previously due to the following connections to the other blogs and when the blog was created, but it wasn’t confirmed (in my opinion) until this blog reblogged my post which trigged multiple of the others to like/reblog from there (I may get more into this later).
My theory that it has something to do with epic the musical started with blog 6, which posts epic the musical content. I know this blog is associated through reblogs from the others, particularly from 1 (more on this later). 1, 4, and 6 also all have tiktok accounts by the same username which are all connected, further building the connection.
The description of 2 also says, Making your dragons more EPIC since 2024, leading me to further believe that it has something to do with epic the musical. 3 has also been recently reblogging a lot of epic content, including tagging 6 in one of them.
One of the strongest pieces of evidence has come from 1 responding to one of 6’s posts with “One of my favourites is how Suffering is referenced throughout the Thunder Saga - starting with “I will take the suffering from you,” to the FURIOUS “we won’t take more suffering from you,” to the time in EXILE: “how much longer must I suffer now?” To “let me take the suffering from you,” as a different form of “siren song”.” Which for those of you who know httyd, will understand the references being made here, proving the connection between httyd and epic the musical.
In terms of what I think this project is going to be, there is not a lot of evidence towards what it actually is yet, but these are some guesses based on circumstantial evidence. There is probable potential for animatics, knowing that 1 (and 4 to some extent) is an artist, and animatics would be a fitting way to combine httyd and epic. This one is entirely speculation but there may be lyric rewrites to fit the characters in httyd (maybe record as wel idk), based on the mentions of music theory in some of the posts.
I know the people a part of this are watching everything I do. they. are. watching. I’m looking forward to the project ❤️

dear HTTYD fandom: if youre gonna complain about historical accuracy, get it right
TRIGGER WARNING: discussions of SA, slavery and white supremacy in a historical and sociocultural context
okay so i am going to get absolutely FLAMED for this and i already expect the slew of comments, but honestly… the uproar over nico’s race is genuinely so childish, i expected better from this fandom.
her skin tone is fair. she passes as white. shouldn’t yall be happy? does every actor need to submit a DNA sample now to prove that they are “pure” enough for yall to accept them?
nico is a fair skinned, QUARTER black woman. if the community didnt cause a huge uproar about her ethnic background, i genuinely would have assumed that she was just white with curly hair. like genuinely, when i went to look her up, i expected her to be around the same skin tone as halle bailey or even darker, and instead i found someone who is paler than my eastern european pasty HUWHITE self. like jesus christ, genuinely get a life.
as someone who is a norse pagan, and whose special interest is viking culture, dont even come at me with that whole “omg but vikings were whiteeee muh historical accuracy” because thats a HUGE misconception, the current homogeny that exists in scandinavia right now does not reflect how vikings were.
Vikings weren’t homogenous, they racemixed a LOT (vikings are like…. notorious for not keeping it in their pants lol) and exchanged cultural artefacts and traditions quite often.
sources for these claims:
https://theconversation.com/vikings-were-never-the-pure-bred-master-race-white-supremacists-like-to-portray-84455
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viking_expansion (“waaah wikipedia isnt a reliable source” this is the most concise collection of information there is on this, with graphics for clarity’s sake.)
https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2017/03/210206/history-viking-adventure-morocco
and before anyone comes at me with “uh the last one was a raid!!!” here is what happened during viking raids:
1. literally just showing off (yes this is a legitimate theory i read somewhere)
2. stealing goods and wealth
3. enslaving people
not only that, vikings have been known to have intercourse with the female slaves they captured, in fact, female slaves (also known as thralls) were kept for pleasure.
oh you want a source? i’ll give you 3!
[a HUGE trigger warning for SA, slavery and everything you’d expect to read in an uncensored historical book really]
https://allthatsinteresting.com/iceland-founded-viking-slaves
https://en.natmus.dk/historical-knowledge/denmark/prehistoric-period-until-1050-ad/the-viking-age/power-and-aristocracy/slaves-and-thralls/
https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/little-known-role-slavery-viking-society-180975597/
i am BEGGING, if yall are going to cry over historical accuracy, get it right. a 25% black woman existing in a viking world is not only possible, but has likely occurred in the past. archaeologists cant really tell race from skeletal remains, they often rely on things like cultural artefacts to identify race/ethnic background (which, as we know with the migration associated with the vikings, makes things harder).
the whole “pure bred white hair blue eyes viking DNA” bs stems from white supremacy.

jo. bestie. hi. i’m holding your hands and asking u to please if u want deal us all permanent psychic damage with “you’re just as beautiful as the day i lost you” (the httyd divorced zukka agenda has to continue and nobody can do it as well as u <3)
Sokka had spent the entire journey to the Fire Nation imagining himself being so overwhelmed with emotion at the sight of Zuko that, decorum be damned, he would run into his arms as soon as they made eye contact.
The sting of disappointment he felt when he realized that Zuko wasn't even there to greet him and Katara was enough to extinguish most of the excitement he had felt and make him second-guess everything about this trip. It was odd enough that after over a decade of being broken up they had rekindled their relationship over letters, what would it be like when they saw each other in person for the first time in years? Did they only know how to be in love again in theory? Was Zuko truly ready to leave the throne and his home in a few months and start a life with Sokka?
He's hiding out on some balcony that the two of them frequented in his Ambassador days, and he jumps when he hears the door open behind him. It's probably Katara telling him to stop moping, and he's about to tell her that he just needs a minute when he sees Zuko there, giving him a tentative smile.
"Hey," he says.
"Hi," Sokka says, the corner of his mouth twitching in amusement.
"Sorry about," Zuko gestures, and Sokka knows what he means.
"I get it. You're a busy guy," Sokka says.
That makes Zuko frown, and he walks over and takes a seat on the bench next to him. "Not too busy for you," he says. Which, historically, is kind of a lie, but Sokka appreciates the sentiment all the same. Especially since soon, they won't have to worry about the Fire Lord nonsense ever again.
Zuko seems to be thinking the same thing. "For what it's worth, it wasn't 'official business' keeping me away again," he clarifies. "Izumi was getting a little overwhelmed with everything going on to get ready for the party, and I spent longer in the garden with her than I realized. She's with Uncle, now."
Sokka softens at that, his doubts slowly starting to fade away. "That's understandable."
"Thanks for coming all the way here," Zuko says quickly. "It means a lot and it...it's really good to see you."
The sincerity in his tone is a little overwhelming. "Wouldn't miss it for the world," Sokka says, despite having missed the last ten or so of Zuko's birthday celebrations.
It makes Zuko smile, though, which Sokka relaxes at the sight of.
"You look good," Sokka says, smiling back.
"You look..." Zuko trails off, a strange expression on his face as he just keeps staring at Sokka.
"What?" Sokka asks suspiciously. "Is there something on my face?"
"You're just as beautiful as the day I lost you," Zuko says, so softly Sokka might have missed it had he not been hanging onto every word from those lips.
"I..." Sokka says, feeling speechless for once as heat rises in his cheeks. "That's...great, thank you."
As soon as the words leave his mouth he groans, putting his head in his hands as Zuko laughs loudly at him.
"You can't just say things like that," Sokka complains, even if he can't stop smiling.
"I can and I will, especially if that is the kind of reaction I can expect," Zuko teases. Sokka looks over at him and feels his cheeks flushing again at the soft look on Zuko's face.
Sokka takes a shaky breath, calling upon every ounce of bravery he's ever possessed to help him reach for Zuko's hand. "Twelve years?" he asks, giving it a squeeze.
"Twelve years," Zuko confirms, squeezing back. “It’s not that I haven’t seen you that whole time. I just…never let myself really look.”
Sokka nods. “You’re sure this is what you want?”
Zuko raises his eyebrow. "I've started packing."
Sokka rolls his eyes and shoves Zuko's shoulder with his own. "Oh, so romantic, run away with me just because you're already packing."
Zuko laughs again, and Sokka feels lightheaded. He's not going to get used to constantly hearing that sound anytime soon.
“I've had all this time to think about it, and my answer is still the same," Zuko tells him seriously. "This is best for the Fire Nation, best for us. Are you sure, though? Six year olds are pretty crazy.”
“Raising a kid with you?" Sokka asks. "That's all I've ever wanted. Craziness and all."
The way Zuko looks at Sokka erases any of the doubts, the questions, the worries Sokka had about this. About them. After the years of heartbreak and separation, Sokka knows that's behind them, and the future looks much brighter.

The Mystery Behind Astrid's Wolf-Pelt Cloak (HTTYD 3)
Tumblr media
Hello, my fellow Furians! Welcome to another HTTYD article! This is one of my older ideas, but again, I just plumb forgot and it was just left sitting there collecting dust. 😅
Today, I want to talk to you about a realization and possible revelation that just has me in fits of excitement! When I watched the end of HTTYD 3 with Hiccstrid's wedding and their cloaks, I never thought much about it. However, when I watched the RTTE Season 2's 4th episode "Bad Moon Rising," I suddenly connected the two dots.
Take a look!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I paused and thought about it for a bit, and then I realized that... wait, wolf. Wolf pelt. A pelt that comes from a wolf. Wait... did the wolf pelt come from THIS wolf?! 😲🤯
Tumblr media
I mean, it could be possible, right?
I could totally see Snotlout killing the wolf and gaining a nice pelt from it for his troubles, and then 3 or so years later, when Hiccstrid have their wedding, he gifts it to Astrid as a wedding gift. Or maybe he gifts it to her as a reconciliation gift after having stepped on her wrath one too many times. 😅 Such a time could've been after Season 5's episode "Snotlout's Angels."
Tumblr media
Of course, this could just all be an uncanny coincidence, and this is a completely different pelt that had absolutely nothing to do with Snotlout's wolf, and that he either still has it, or Tuffnut has it as an apology gift for the... prank and making him think that he was turning into a Lycanwing.
But hey, I personally support this headcanon. What about you guys?
Let me know what you guys think! I'm always open to other interpretations. It's why theories and headcanons exist.
Thank you for reading this article! See you next time!
Long Live the Night!

The httyd-live action
I know Dean DeBlois will do again a good job as Director, as he did with the original animated trilogy. But I think I will not watch it, maybe I could change my mind but I don’t think so. I just didn’t need it in the first place and I still don’t understand why it’s necessary. It feels for me personally as Universal just wants to milk out such a fantastic franchise, that didn’t need a Remake to begin with. I rather watch JW: Chaos Theory, Flow or the Wild Robot again. I don’t know something about the thought that httyd will get a remake doesn’t stick with me that much. Just something about it feels horribly wrong and I am honestly a bit afraid that the original trilogy will be not so much respected anymore if they do a live action adaptation. Httyd is great as it is and doesn’t need something that is remaking it. The last time I was this angry when they released the nine realms and it was in too many ways disrespectful to the original trilogy. Also another reason why I httyd doesn’t need a live action remake is because httyd has already really good animation, so good, it even looks in some scenes like live action. Hell, httyd is famous for this art style, it was nominated for four Oscars if you include the soundtrack. It’s one of the best trilogies ever made and a Masterpiece of Storytelling.
I know some people like the idea of a series setting within in the second and third movie. I personally also don’t need that either. I kind of like the idea but I think it has to be written and directed by the two guys who produced Chaos Theory and Camp Cretaceous. We have to give them credit, they brought back the Jurassic Park feeling in Jurassic World something Colin Treverrow failed to do, even if it his trilogy is good. And really scored with it in Chaos Theory. I honestly would really enjoy a series that would fit more to the tone of chaos theory, I would even say it would be better than Rtte and Riders/Defenders together.

Is Heather Based on a Book Character? (HTTYD)
Tumblr media
Hello, my fellow Dragonmarkers! Today, we'll be talking about another character from the movie/TV franchise and the Books:
Could Heather be loosely based on a character from the books?
(Warning: Spoiler Alert to those who haven't read the books at all, but consider this an opportunity to see if the books are worth reading, eh? ;-) )
Now, I might be 100% wrong on my theory, but I'm still going to present it, and leave to you, my audience, to determine whether or not this is plausible.
Unlike other characters in the movie/t.v. show whom many fans think are similar to certain book characters (cough, cough, Astrid, cough), Heather might possibly have more in common with her other half, Barbara the Barbarian: a minor character that we see only in the last book of the series, How to Fight a Dragon's Fury.
<><><><><><><><><><><>
My Theory | How Heather and Barbara Are Similar:
What makes me think that Heather and Barbara are connected, if somewhat loosely?
Well, let me give you a few reasons:
1) She's a daughter of a Chieftain.
Both girls are daughters (or Princesses, as they're called in the books) of Chieftains — albeit Heather's the daughter of the late Chieftain of the Berserker Tribe, while Barbara is the daughter of the Chieftain of the Barbarian Tribe. They both have a level head on their shoulders and their equipment and even their dragons look somewhat similar, if loosely so.
They are also good leaders who lead their warriors well, and both of their fathers dote on them.
Both are superb fighters, being daughters of Chieftains. They are also intelligent, fierce, brave, kind, compassionate, and love their dragons dearly.
Tumblr media
2) Both seem to be brunettes (though Barbara's hair and eye color is never mentioned).
3) Barbara, like Heather, seems to not have a mother, though it's unclear whether the mother died or if she was just not mentioned. The HTTYD books only have a few mothers who are mentioned and shown: Bertha (Camicazi's mother), Valhallarama (Hiccup's mother), Termagant (Fishlegs' mother), Excellinor the Witch (Alvin the Treacherous's mother), and Chin-hilda (Hiccup the Second's mother). Oddly, women are sorely lacking in the books. Maybe it's just because of the Viking culture in her books. In Viking culture, women weren't often mentioned except in folklore and sagas.
4) Both are staunch supporters and allies of their respective Hiccup the Thirds. Heather is a trustworthy ally who's often shown alongside Hiccup and the Dragon Riders in Race to the Edge along with Dagur.
She's always seen with the others around the Hearth giving suggestions and advice. Before she reconciled with Dagur, and when she lived with the Dragon Riders, she often flew with Hiccup and/or Astrid, and was usually the one to go with Hiccup and Astrid when he left to talk to someone — whether a villain or one of their allies.
She and Barbara have the utmost respect for their respective Hiccups and would gladly die for them if need be.
Barbara only nominated Alvin the Treacherous to be King of the Wilderwest, despite knowing the kind of person he was and having fought against him, and being Hiccup's follower, out of practical sense and battle fatigue, for the Vikings of the Wilderwest were close to extinction under the claws of the Dragons' Red-Rage Rebellion led by Furious, and she and everyone else had been fighting the dragons for two years at this point and were war-weary (even Vikings need a break from war once and a while). Only when evidence began to pop up that Hiccup is the Rightful Heir did she have hope again.
She was also one of the Vikings who knelt before Hiccup to swear their swords for his service as their King. And when Hiccup was going to duel Furious, Barbara offered to lend him her cat to take into battle — whether as a weapon, a lucky charm, or both.
And when Hiccup was in danger — and when Alvin incited the battle once again by breaking the Rules of Single Combat by entering the Ring when Hiccup and Furious were engaged so that he could steal the Dragon Jewel and kill Hiccup the Third for good — she flew on her dragon along with her comrades to enter the fray and showed great courage and bravery.
5) Both Heather and Barbara own battle horns.
Tumblr media
Heather was given her horn as a gift from Hiccup's father Stoick when she was born. Perhaps Barbara did likewise, or her own father had given her it when she was older. As I've said, she's a minor character so not much is known about her at all; she's only shown in one book — the last one, and only in the middle of the last one.
Heather uses her own to call Windshear to her if they ever get separated. It's also possible that she uses it to call to any allies that are close to her. Barbara seems to use her horn similarly.
In fact, in How to Fight a Dragon's Fury, it says in Page 241 that: "...She brought out her foghorn and blew on it several times, making such a loud noise that the cat's fur stood up like the quills on a sea urchin and she immediately bounced back onto Barbara's shoulder."
So she seems to use it for her pet cat (I believe it was mentioned that the Barbarian Tribe used cats into battle. No clue why, but they do).
Another reference in Page 450 — well after this point, close to the end of the story — when the Second Dragon-Human War was ended and the Vikings were celebrating the new peace and the return of the Kingdom of the Wilderwest. Unfortunately, being Vikings, their celebrating eventually moved into fighting and arguing, and Hiccup eventually asks Barbara for her horn in order to break it up.
Hiccup says: " 'In the meantime, I know what will stop them from arguing... Barbara," said Hiccup now, 'could I borrow your foghorn?' King Hiccup stood up on his Stone, and blew the foghorn as hard as he could. The thrilling sound of the foghorn, when blown at full blast, was so magnetically loud that it hit the ears like an electric shock..."
We actually see this when Heather blows her horn to call Windshear to her in Edge of Disaster Part 2 in Season 2 of RTTE. The sound is high-pitched and loud.
Tumblr media
Yet another — and final — reference is in Page 455-456, where, as the Vikings are singing songs during the Feast, Hiccup asks Barbara if she'd like her horn back, to which she replied that "he'd better keep it, as she thought that he was going to need it." (Vikings being Vikings, after all). Heather doesn't do this, but I was basically showing where the horn came from.
Tumblr media
Now, it could be that this is just a coincidence, and that this doesn't make Heather loosely based on Barbara the Barbarian. It could be that the horn is just a little reference from the books like the eyepiece (telescope) you see Hiccup and other characters use throughout the Dragons series.
6) Both girls are love interests of their respective Fishlegs characters.
Tumblr media
That's right. I'm getting to the JUICY stuff now! lol 😎🍿
Now Fishlegs in the movie franchise is vastly (pun not intended) different from Fishlegs in the books. Fishlegs in the books is small and skinny like Hiccup and has asthma, eczema, a squint, a limp, and numerous allergies, including one to reptiles. He wears glasses. And has red hair. And his dragon is a Deadly Shadow, a dragon not unsimilar to the Snaptrapper dragon — much cooler than a Gronkle, as the Deadly Shadow is a faster flyer, deadlier, and is a Stealth Dragon.
Fishlegs in the movies is... beefier than Fishlegs in the books. He also doesn't really have any allergies aside from Gobber's earwax (which they only did for comedy effect and the episode actually referenced Fishlegs' allergy to reptiles in the books, though Fishlegs seems to have gotten over that allergy as the books wore on). He doesn't have glasses, having perfect vision. He doesn't limp, he's strong, and doesn't squint. And he doesn't have asthma. And it seems like he can swim just fine, whereas in the books Fishlegs was a terrible swimmer and was only able to swim when he saw that Hiccup was in danger. He also has blond hair, not red. And he's a nerd when it comes to dragons, whereas Fishlegs in the books is an up-and-coming poet and bard with only the general knowledge of dragons.
Basically, he's a WIMP.
Fishlegs in the books is also an orphan, unlike in the movie, and also, unlike Movie Fishlegs, Fishlegs in the books also turns out to be royalty, being the son of Termagant, daughter of a Murderous Chieftain, and Alvin the Treacherous, making him the third cousin (according to the HTTYD wiki) of Hiccup and Snotlout. In the movie, Alvin is of no relation to Stoick, Hiccup, Snotlout, and Fishlegs at all, and Fishlegs is of no relation, in turn, to Hiccup. In the books, Fishlegs is also part Berserker on his mother's side, whereas Fishlegs has no such lineage.
One last thing: Fishlegs in the books was love-struck whenever Barbara was around, and couldn't form a coherent sentence together nor could think straight, often fainting. Fishlegs in the films and series never show any of that when with Heather. However, Fishlegs's secret letters to Heather could actually be a reference from the books where Fishlegs writes a secret love letter to Barbara the Barbarian against Hiccup's wishes.
In other words, he's a SIMP. 😂
Tumblr media
(Heathlegs by NightOwl374 on Tumblr — though the account isn't around anymore and you can only find these on Pinterest)
Now, there are those who hope that someday Fishlegs and Barbara get together (personally, I don't) like how Fishlegs and Heather do in RTTE.
Another thing that the girls have in common is that both are older than their male counterparts — she is about a year or so (give or take a few months) older than Fishlegs, while Barbara is said, according to Camicazi, to be at least three years older than Fishlegs.
Two noticeable differences are, however, that 1) Fishlegs and Heather were a couple at one point, whereas with Fishlegs and Barbara, it was a one-sided attraction on Fishlegs' part and probably wouldn't be a thing regardless; and 2) both Barbara and Fishlegs were royalty, whereas only Heather is royalty and Fishlegs is just your average Joe (or IS HE? 😏).
But Fishlegs and Heather's relationship could've been a very loose reference to the possibility — and hope — of Fishlegs' infatuation with Barbara the Barbarian in the end of How to Fight a Dragon's Fury (come on, Cressida! Make us a sequel series!), and wanting Fishlegs to at least GET THE GIRL for once! lol 😂
<><><><><><><><><><>
Conclusion:
Anyway, this is all that I have for you concerning this. What do you guys think? Do you think that Heather could be loosely inspired by Barbara from the books? Or do you think that I'm making mountains out of ant-hills and that these are just a bunch of coincidences! Tell me what you guys think! 😏
Thank you everyone for reading this article! I hope you guys enjoyed reading it! Until next time, my fellow Dragonmarkers! Have a great weekend!

For anyone who might be hesitant on fantasy AUs within fanfiction, I encourage you to give it a try! It's just our favorite boys falling in love again, but there might be magic or dragons (or both!) involved.
Really, fantasy is a story that's in a setting that allows your imagination to run wild. It breaks norms of reality and adds possibilities. Underneath it all is a familiar story of love and finding each other.
If you need some places to start, under the cut is a bunch of my favorite Piarles fantasy fics:
every broken piece of me (belongs to you) by @your-littlesecret (Explicit | 45k) - Jully's Fae!Pierre. An absolute marvel of worldbuilding. I adore this interpretation of the world of the Fae and the courts and everything in between. The details are gorgeous and the slow build of the relationship is so delicious. And there's a dragon. (It's Jully...of course there's a dragon!)
you are perfection, my only direction (it's fire on fire) by @singsweetmelodies (Explicit | 40k) - Katie's dragon riders AU! This fic is the epitome of we're-both-in-love-with-each-other-but-too-scared-to-admit-it. Arranged marriage and politics and they're both pining for each other the whole time while flying on their dragons. It's beautiful and hot and features meddlesome Sewis which I adore.
and it's coming closer by @wolfiemcwolferson (Explicit | 84k) - Logan's Werewolfierre fic! (what the fuck, it's 84k???) It's Logan, so nobody gets to be surprised when there's themes of loss and grief and found family here. It's one of those fics where the audience knows exactly what's happening and seeing Charles come to a slow understanding is beautifully done.
dragonheart by @duquesademiel (General | 2.1k) - sol's little bite-sized glimpse into an Eragon!AU. This fic captures so much worldbuilding and setup and establishing relationships in 2k words and I am eagerly camped out for the day when sol wants to add more to this universe.
hold your hand in mine (starlights in your eyes) by @your-littlesecret (Mature | 20k) - Jully's How To Train Your Dragon AU! It's so sweet and there's action and shenanigans and I am just a sucker for anything HTTYD. Honestly? Dragons. Need I say more??
miles away from places you have been by @wolfiemcwolferson (Explicit | 36k) - Logan's Vampierre! The air of mystery in this fic is incredible. Logan manages to capture that feeling of something being off and when it hits, it hits HARD. There's angst, there's tragedy, there's hope, and there's love. (And magic and vampires.)
e forse il mare è dentro di lui by @duquesademiel (Teen | 24k) - If the ocean was a character. There's magic and mystery and it's stunning how everything comes together. I love all the characters and how relentless Charles is in attempting to figure out what the fuck is happening on this island.
(ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
And, this is my blog, so I'm allowed to self-rec my own fantasy:
By the Grace of Magic and Flames (Teen | 54k) - The collab Jully and I wrote in 3 weeks. Dragon Rider!Charles and Witch!Pierre. Featuring sassy familiars and learning magic and so much pining. We honestly went insane over this and it's incredible.
A Nymph's Heart (Series | Teen | 46k) - My Nymph!Pierre & Violinist!Charles series. A small glade in the woods provides an excellent spot for Charles to practice his music, and there's an intriguing magical creature that lives there. They go to the Feywild in Part 2 and the way that magic works there is some of my best & favorite worldbuilding.
Bittersweet, That Glitter (Teen | 23k) - Dragon!Pierre & Potions Apprentice!Charles. Pierre is a shape-shifting dragon who finds his soulmate in a tiny village. Charles convinces him to stay and teach him magic and potions brewing, all while Pierre is trying to conceal his true identity as a dragon. I spent way too much time on potions brewing theory and I want to live in this world.
Our Love Is Not Illusion Based (Teen | 3k) - Another little bite-sized piece of magic where Pierre is a witch and Charles refuses to leave his side despite the stigma against witches. It's sweet with just a touch of angst and I'm so happy with how much I managed to pack into a short fic here.
The Boy With the Storm-Colored Eyes (Teen | 31k) - Mermaid!Charles!!! This is the first fic I ever posted to AO3/F1 RPF and it holds such a special place in my heart. I love naϊve Charles as a mermaid and surfer/scientist Pierre who is immediately besotted. The action and the drama is so good and the resolution is somehow angstier? I love this world and I love how they're drawn to each other despite everything in the way.

I thought of some questions from reading the httyd books!! (And some other thoughts)
1. In a previous post you mentioned one of Niv's friends was a bog burglar. In your AU, what's up with the bog's? Led by Camicazi? Bertha? Whats their association with Berk and the rest? Any notes on the rest of the Archipelago?
2. If the bogs are in your AU, are the 0thrt tribes there too? The Meatheads, Hysterics, etc?
3. If the Meatheads are their, do you have anything on them? On Thuggory?
4. Whats your opinion on Norbert the Nutjob? Asking this cause after I read the books he's been a personal fave (the whole hysteric tribe too) along with Thuggory <33
And for fun
5. Gustav's dad is never mentioned in show, but I've been thinking and looking over Screencaps (for drawing), and wanted to know what you think of these two crack theories I came up (if its not rude to ask!!)
5a. Alvin as Gustavs father. I mentioned this once i think?? Idk
5b. Ragnar the Rock as Gustav's father. I noticed in Screencaps that they have almost the same eye color (faded green). This is very much a crack theory lol
OH slay!!! That's so fun, excited to try and answer them!!
Yep!! Olga, one of Nivvie's friends, does indeed originate from the bog burglars. In my au, at the time of Niv, the tribe is lead by Camicazi and they're good allies of Berk and the Haddocks. I imagine they sometimes see each other during big archipelago meetings such as the Thing or big festivals. I can also imagine the different allied tribes getting together for big sports games or coming of age trials, to keep it in the spirit of the books! A while ago, I pondered on the idea of different tribes getting together to organise a big thawfest once every few years, which i think would be a pretty fun addition to the ally-ship the Berkians have gained with different tribes.
I honestly hadn't thought much abt adding in the other book-related tribes! I can imagine they're out there somewhere, tho, developing alongside New Berk and, if they're in good spirits with the Berkians at the time, joining in on their games and mischief. If not, they're probably at the meetings, causing a bit of ruckus there.
Sadly I don't have anything on the meatheads lmao! But I do love Thuggory and I can imagine him being a very fair and good chief to his tribe and being a good chief-friend to Hiccup. They'd probably get together for good talks or good drinks or sit together during chief meetings! Niv doesn't have anything to do with the meatheads, tho, so that's why I'm not as inclined to think abt them and how they'd fit in a post httyd3-the-dragons-stayed world.
OH i think Norbert was such a fun character!! The whole axe thing is terrifying to me lmao and I think it's really interesting how scared he was to mess with "fate", even tho Hiccup put fate in his own hands. Good character!! It's been a bitty since i read the books but guy was scary af to me.
Yeah ofc!! That's not at all rude to ask!! :) I think Alvin being the Guster's dad would be a fun theory!! I do wonder how it lines up timeline-wise, since Alvin got banished quickly after Stoick got made chief and Alvin mentioned he had been holding a grudge for almost 20 years (I had to look this up to make sure it was 20 years LMAO) at the time of RoB-DoB. However!! I do think it would explain some of Gustav's tendencies and would be interesting in a way of history repeating itself, seeing as Gustav would be one of the Berkians most likely to get himself banished as well.
LMAO that's a fun crack theory!! I personally can't really see it as the two characters are very removed from each other in storytelling terms, but it could be a cool behind-the-scenes moment!! Whenever I go "hmmm who is Gustav's dad" I always just think "ah yes Berk related", but I think it's really fun you try to find it outside of Berk! It's really an open for interpretation question, which is really fun.
Ty sm for the questions!! They were really fun to answer!! I'd love to hear your response to my answers lmao, plus some of your reasonings for the crack theories!! I think that could be really interesting!! :D
