Eh, this episode had some good and some bad. Let me down in some of the things I was looking forward to.

So no Wolfjaku at all. Really don't understand why MAPPA cut that scene. It was such a great hint at Kenjaku and Yuuji's relation and also emphasized Kenjaku's predatory nature towards Mahito. They wanted to eat him just as much as Yuuji did, but for different reasons.

The centipedes still look very unimpressive. They changed the colour, but they look just as cartoony if not more than Geto's. Also not entirely happy with the voice direction for how Kenjaku talks to Yuuji. It sounds way less casual than in the manga, where you clearly get the impression that Kenjaku enjoys talking to Yuuji and teaching him things. Plus that they are proud of how he develops. Overall, Kenjaku sounds too serious for my liking during this episode. It's missing that playfulness. We only hear it a little bit when they're mocking Choso.

The claiming of Mahito was good. I like that they emphasized Mahito fighting back, how he was deformed by the cursed technique and was literally trying to claw his way away from Kenjaku, reaching into the empty air for some sort of support. Kenjaku was lacking in passion though. They did not throw it back at all. That back barely arched. MAPPA wants to be lewd so often but here they shy away. Homophobic.

For the Uzumaki I wish they would've lingered longer on Mahito's Uzumaki form to have it and the grotesque way it looks really sink in. It was gone way too fast before you could really catch what you were even looking at. Also a bit too colourful for my taste (like they do with many curses unfortunately) I would've liked a fleshier texture more.

The highlight of this episode was definitely Uraume for me. Their va really captured their coldness as well as all the barely suppressed anger and disdain for the people around them. They should've extended their fight instead of Choso vs Kenjaku, which is barely a fight anyway, it's just Choso throwing blood around and hitting everything except Kenjaku. Seeing Uraume here combined with their current fight in the manga got me so excited. Let them kill people, Kenjaku! Stop being a killjoy!

I love this image so much. It looks so cool (heh). And as I've noticed in the last chapter as well, they have such nice hands. I mean look at that...

also they look like a grumpy cat or like someone pissed in their tea, all because Yuuji dared to be careless with "Sukuna's body"

its so strange going onto yuri on ice videos and trailers and edits and stuff now because if you go into the comments and sort by new, you can pinpoint the time when the cancellation notice dropped because people from 5 days ago are like "omfg i will wait 20 years for this mappa but please make it good" and then 2 days later people are just "T-T how fucking dare you mappa"

In my life, I have made too many bad experiences with sequels and prequels to a story I had come to love with all my heart that I had never high hopes for a YOI movie to delight me, especially knowing how about the hate the creators received for daring to make YOI good queer representation and how that forced them to backpedal later.

When you love something so much, your naturally high astronomical expectations are basically impossible to meet (and that's not the creator's fault!).

In this sense and because I prefer certainty, I feel relief about the cancellation note and hope this will bring people closure.

I discovered YOI three years ago. It changed my life and taught me what love is and sent me further down the path of self-discoery. But because I came so late, I missed out on the exciting early founding times of the fandom and that made it hard to make any friends here. I never really felt like I belong. And knowing that these news might prompt fans to abandon the fandom, saddens me because I came to stay for a very long time and I will keep writing canon and post-canon viktuuri and share the results if people keep caring about them.

That said…

The next part isn’t likely going to make me any friends, but since I never really had any friends here to begin with, I’m at a point where I stopped caring. Haters gonna hate and I will be happy blocking them.

I honestly hope that this is the point where the Mappa haters will finally stop poisoning the fandom and fuck off so that the rest of us who decides to stay can enjoy YOI in peace. Things have become really insufferable over the past year or so. Being in a place that is supposed for people loving the same thing to meet and share their love, while a certain group is doing their best to whip up the rest of the fandom for their own spiteful agenda sucks.

i remember seeing a post like years ago abt how fanfic has so much untapped potential if you just look outside the scope of just romantic dynamics and i think that’s very very true so here are some group activities that i think should be more commonplace for found family works:

building ikea furniture. who’s reading the directions entirely wrong? who’s two seconds away from yelling at everyone? who’s sitting off to the side on their phone?

jackbox. whose beautifully thought out answer loses unanimously to “minion sex”? who submitted “minion sex”? this may or may not be a lived experience

coworkers but not in like an aesthetic cozy cafe way like coworkers at old navy. taco bell. bass pro shops. get creative with it!

baking from an online recipe bc “how hard could it be?” very.

camping?? like it seems obvious but i really don’t see it a lot like who heard the word camping and immediately bought a bigfoot suit

powerpoint nights! what hills are everyone dying on? who uses the default slides format white background arial font? who has mappa animated transitions on every slide?

party games outside of truth or dare/spin the bottle/never have i ever like get some paranoia get some we’re not really strangers in here

even with truth or dare never have i ever i BEG get creative with the questions/dares leading up to the inevitable heavy emotional question and or make out dare (it’s ok we know it’s coming)

prison break hear me out. there’s no valid reason i just think it has comedic potential

and there is MUCH much more that i did not say so once more get creative w it!
