Honestly all they had to do was not hype this up as some fun exciting announcement, and then just fucking be upfront about it. Not wanting to rely on ad revenue anymore is so valid and if they'd been honest with us about it, it wouldn't be such a shock. The whole sentimentality of leaving youtube feels very contrived and just like....not honest. Like something more low key and direct would have made this go over WAY better.

Like honestly how do they expect people to feel when theyve been hyping up a big announcement for a week and the announcement is fuck you pay us. Of course people are gonna be in their feelings!

If they had spent more time easing people into it, polling, communicating with the audience and talking about moving away from advertising, i think the reaction would not be this dramatic.

I couldn't make it all the way through the video because it was just... felt very phony to me but I noticed that they seem to spend a lot of time talking about what *THEY* want. No attempt to hear what an audience wants. Which....is a way to do things I guess
