The number of times House or Wilson offered to each other "if you want to talk, I'm here" just for the other one to react in a mean or annoyed way is making me insane

Still not over how caring Foreman is after Chase kills Dibala. Foreman is technically in charge of the department when it happens and has just admitted that he needs Chase and Cameron. Dibala is the first case Chase and Cameron are back for and...Chase murders the patient.
Still, Foreman goes from telling Chase he can't guilt him into covering up for him and asking whether he thinks he can get away with murder without any consequences to... covering up for Chase and feeling bad for Chase and trying to help when Chase does experience consequences in the form of feeling haunted by what he did. And Chase actually opens up to him a few times!
Here's The Tyrant, 6x04
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Foreman can already tell that Chase is feeling rough by the end of this and it's the personal, not the political ramifications of Dibala’s murder being discovered that convinces him not to turn Chase in.
Foreman's concerned about presenting at the M&M and tells Chase to come up with explanations for discrepancies because he's not prepared to present the case if there's anything that could cause problems for them (Foreman: "I want to know you have everything covered" and "I can't do this. I can't go in there and stack lie upon lie. You've got to figure out a way to explain this" when he doesn't think the explanations Chase has come up with will work.)
Still, he doesn't throw Chase under the bus when there are signs of trouble. He says he's going to tell Cuddy "the truth" but what he says is they're too busy to present at the M&M. Sure, he'd be in trouble too if he did tell the truth, but ultimately he's worried, not angry at Chase. There’s no sign he’s resentful of Chase even though he could very well have felt that way given that he was trying to prove himself in this job and needed Chase to help him. But he owns his own decision not to turn Chase in and seems to get that what Chase did was in no way about Foreman.
Here he is in Brave Heart, 6x06 (below the cut), worried about Chase but not pushing him too hard—he checks in with Chase but is willing to move on to gene sequencing and I think his low-key attitude helps Chase open up to him because he actually admits—to Foreman!—that he felt like he was having a panic attack. Foreman is concerned about him and tries to help instead of going, "Hey, I didn't call the cops but you should be suffering in some way."

And then he and Chase have a whole conversation about telling Cameron in Known Unknowns 6x07 and Foreman seems very sympathetic and concerned there, too. But again, he doesn't press too hard and lets things go with, "Okay" even though he's been telling Chase to tell Cameron forever at this point.

okay sorry but house giving wilson's speech on euthanasia so he wouldn't commit career suicide and complimenting him as a responsible and caring doctor after he storms through the door is peak romance to me. did he drug him and steal his pants before doing this? yes of course, it's part of the romance

Oh my god I've finally realized why Wilson was such a dick about it! I've always thought he knew House was getting worried but didn't explain anyway. But he probably didn't know, since house's deflecting as always, and heard about Mayfield out of nowhere one morning, just after he was overheard by House. So he thought House just wanted him to admit to his secret by guiltripping him, which, ok, he kind of did, but he didn't know how scared House was before that.
So it's more because of house still having problems with asking for help and Wilson treating House or expecting him to act the same way he was before Mayfield.
Or maybe Wilson didn't know House overheard. Then it's even more tragic. How typical for this show

Thinking about House's attitude toward what Chase did to Dibala in light of the conversation House has with Eve in One Day, One Room (3x12).
When they're debating murder and abortion, House says:
The problem with exceptions to rules is the line drawn. Might make sense for us to kill the ass that did this to you. But where do we draw the line?  Which asses do we get to kill? Which asses get to keep on being asses? Nice thing about the abortion debate is we can quibble over trimesters, but ultimately there's an ice-cold line - birth. Morally, there isn't a lot of difference. Practically, huge.
I'm wondering whether Chase was aware of House's thoughts about the trouble with exceptions/where to draw the line and that's one of the reasons he didn't go to him for help when he and Foreman were worried about the morbidity and mortality conference in Instant Karma (6x05)? I mean, if Foreman covered for him, he must have considered that House would have too? Though maybe he was mostly just worried House thought he should be fired because he couldn’t believe anyone would think he shouldn’t lose his job?
Chase: And what now? House: I'm not the boss. Chase: You don't think I should be fired? House: Why? I doubt we'll ever be treating a genocidal dictator again. Better a murder than a misdiagnosis.
But House, even if he doesn't approve of what Chase did to Dibala and probably wouldn’t have done it himself, knows Chase isn’t a psychopath and that the same circumstances probably won't arise again, so he's happy to move on. He does also say, “Morally, there isn’t a lot of difference” post-birth and that may have been a factor in why he was more okay with it even though he’d previously talked about birth as an “ice-cold line” in One Day, One Room.
In Brave Heart, when Chase says he's "fine," House does tell him, “you shouldn't be," but he knows Chase really isn't “fine” and tells him repeatedly to get help and that he should stop "wanting to suffer." It’s sort of absolution Chase wasn’t seeking or expecting to receive from House (absolution he doesn’t receive from a priest that he does seek it from). House doesn’t give him his approval, but it’s hardly a deal breaker from House’s pov either.

House: Hi, dad. I think I’ve been... focusing on the wrong thing. There were some good times. Wilson. This is stupid. Wilson: [to Amber] You see, he really is getting better.

It's agonizing watching people around House treating him as if he didn't change, and by that forcing him, in a way, to reverse to his old ways

God, Wilson during the beginning of s6 is awful, or it's more obvious now because House is for once mentally stable. Like, every 2 episodes he's gaslighting House that he's delusional, a guy who really had delusions in the past, like, who does that!?
