Chapter 6: Okaasan

Summary: When virgin Pro Hero Shouto turns 30, he gains the magical ability to read the minds of people that he touches. After finding out that his personal assistant has a crush on him, everything changes and Shouto finds himself lost in the stressful game called love.

Warnings: Aged up characters, MHA SPOILERS!! (there are mentions of the Todoroki household drama and the later happenings of the manga), minor reader POV but mainly Shouto's POV :)

Once you felt confident that you were alone in your apartment, you immediately slumped down on the ground. Hiding your face in your hands, you muttered,

"Crap."

You fumbled so badly. Horribly. That was more embarrassing than when you tripped over the stage stairs at university graduation! He would never reciprocate your feelings. Thank goodness for the weekend. That would give you 2 days to think of an excuse-an apology-for the "mishap" and "poor word choice."

Monday came way too fast.

At 7:21am, you notice a message sent to your phone. As you open it on the subway, your heart dropped to your stomach.

Good morning L/N-san

You do not need to buy my coffee today,

I will be coming into the agency a little

later than usual

 "This cafe is so adorable! Thank you for taking me here, Shouto."

Café Amour, a quaint yet renowned coffee shop in the heart of Hosu City, is hidden away on a quiet street. This was also the coffee shop where Shouto would ask his assistant to get his coffee from. Looking back at his mother, he hums softly.

"It's no problem at all, okaasan. Thanks for accepting the sudden invite."

The cafe worker places their coffee order on the table and swiftly leaves to serve other customers. Bringing his iced coffee to his mouth, he takes a sip and speaks up.

"Sorry that I haven't visited in a while."

"It's alright! You visited us for Christmas and New Years. Did you get the birthday gifts from dad and I?"

"Mhm, thank you."

The snow-white haired woman brings the hot cup of coffee to her lips and blows it gently.

"I received news from your father that Touya can now partake in rehab at the prison. He will still be serving a life sentence until further notice, but he's accepted the offer and is making an effort to get better."

The good news that his mother shared made Shouto smile. Slowly, his elder brother was getting better.

One day at a time.

"Ah, but... I have a favor that I'd like to ask of you."

"Hm?" Rei looks at her youngest curiously.

"I need advice."

"Of course, Shouto. Is everything okay?"

"What... what does it feel like to fall in love?"

Rei pauses, her facial expression faltering. It was no secret that "love" was a struggle in the Todoroki household. Though the familial love (and mutual toleration *cough* Natsuo and Enji *cough*) increased in the past few years, there was still the undeniable rift from the years of discord.

Especially between his parents, Shouto (and a few others) knew that there was a lack of "love." It was no secret to the world that the marriage between Rei Himura and Enji Todoroki was arranged, especially after Dabi's revelational broadcast all those years ago.

Before he can say a quick apology, however, his mother speaks up.

"Falling in love with someone feels like floating. The first person I fell in love with was Touya."

Shouto's mouth closes, clearly off-guard. Rei notices this and clears her throat.

"Ah, well, I fell in love with all of my children: you, Touya Fuyumi, and Natsuo. The first one was Touya, obviously because he was my first child," she clarifies. "But if I may ask, why the sudden question?"

Shouto hesitates for a second, but takes a deep breath.

"There's this girl," he explains, "She likes me a lot. I'm not sure if I feel the same way. I care about her since she works with me, but I'm not sure if it just stops there. How do I know if it's mutual love?"

Taking a few seconds to think, Shouto's mother wipes her mouth daintily with her napkin.

"What do you like about this person?"

"Pardon?"

Rei takes a sip of her coffee.

"Why do you care for her?"

‘Y/N has a beautiful smile. Y/N has a nice laugh. Y/N looks gorgeous. Y/N works hard. Y/N is attentive to everyone around her.'

"I feel... comfortable around her. She's genuinely kind-and her smile, she has a beautiful smile. Her laugh too, it's so attractive. She's also not afraid to try to make me laugh. She's always so thoughtful too. She knows my coffee order, she checks on the interns at work daily, she's so attentive to the area and people around her."

Rei nods thoughtfully, a smile growing on her face.

"Do you enjoy her company?"

Shouto nods confidently. "Yes, yes I do."

His mother puts her coffee down on the table and looks at her son.

"You shouldn't keep a girl waiting," she teases.

Shouto looks at her confusedly, wondering what she meant. Rei clears her throat and continues.

"It seems to me that you're in love with her."

"Thanks for walking me to the station, Shouto."

The dual-toned man shakes his head.

"It's the least I could do, okaasan. Thanks again for today."

The white-haired woman smiles. "It was nice catching up with you again! I hope I was able to help you."

"Yes, okaasan, I really appreciate the advice."

Rei reaches up to hug her tall son. 'Shouto really has grown so much. I hope that he stays happy.'

When she let's go, she waves at him with a smile before heading down the subway stairs.

However, she pauses in the middle and looks back at him.

"Shouto?"

"Yes, okaasan?"

The corners of Rei's eyes crinkle slightly as she smiles gently at the grown man in front of her.

"I'm glad that you're happy."

Now I noticed something about my rewrite, I want to hear your opinion. Ochako in my version would definitely want to beat up canon Ochako, Shoto in my version would yell at canon Shoto ``Why do you want to be friends with someone who literally looks like our father?''. Izuku in my version would lecture canon Izuku, but would show him affection. Tenya in my version would also give canon Tenya a big lecture, mainly for his hypocrisy. The truth is that Izusquard in my version, really are ride or die friends of Izuku, they wouldn't tolerate Bakugou's stupidity. So much so that each one would want to beat up Bakugou in Izuku's name. What you think?

Should have been canon. That's my immediate thought.

A large reason why I don't buy into the canon IzuCrew is the fact that they just allow Bakugou to treat Izuku like shit, despite it going in the opposite direction early on.

Tenya's first interaction with Bakugou was yelling at him to get his shoes off the desk, (and I agree because I hate people that do that). Ochako didn't get much interaction with him, to be honest. Tsuyu read him for filth in the bus to the USJ. Shouto straight-up aired him in the Sports Festival - king shit right there.

Ochako should have beaten his ass in the Sports Festival, and I hate how Horikoshi makes her admire him, despite how he never took her seriously and hurt Izuku so damn much - her crush for x-many years! Like, girl, what the hell are you doing!?

Shouto should have hated Bakugou, I'll say it here and now. He should have noticed right away that he was another Endeavour, and the fact that he became friends with him was awful. Early-MHA Shouto would despise Bakugou.

Izuku makes me angry the most, because he was hurt by Bakugou the most, and it wasn't just him. I could understand him forgiving Bakugou, (because he lacks in self-worth), but not if Bakugou hurt other people. And he DID - we saw that in chapter/episode ONE.

Tenya lecturing his canon-self about his hypocrisy is everything to me, because not even the narrative acknowledged his hypocrisy. How he was willing to disobey the law for his own self-satisfaction and sense of justice, while also punching Izuku for toeing the line of the law, not actually breaking it, for the sake of someone else. Then MOCKING Izuku for being on house-arrest! UGH!

Canon IzuCrew is awful, not because I don't believe they could be friends, but because I believe they aren't friends. There were plenty of moments in which I believed in their friendship, but not overall. We rarely saw them supporting each other or confiding in each other post-Hosu, and the only instance I can think of is Izuku telling Shouto to 'forgive' Endeavour, (LIKE HELL), and Ochako crying to Izuku about Himiko.

I think your idea is fantastic, because ride-or-die is exactly what people wanted to see in the IzuCrew. And we could have gotten that in so many arcs, but at some point, that bond slipped away in favour of focusing on...

Bakugou.

You mentioned that you were not a fan of the Endeavor Agency arc, and I’m right there with you. So in your opinion, is there anything you would change to make the arc more worthwhile? Or would scrap that entire arc and have a brand new arc instead?

IMO, maybe have Midoriya focus on simply on trying to unlock and make Blackwhip under his control? Maybe because he felt that getting a hold of his powers trumps anything else? Or he doesn’t want to repeat what happened at the Joint Training fight? Or he doesn’t feel like there are any pro heroes that can help him get a hold of it, other than All Might?

Like I said, this was just an idea I thought of when I was getting ready to ask this, but what changes would you make for the Endeavor Agency arc?

This is a great question! Honestly, there's probably two ways I'd think about going about this.

1. Izuku doesn't join another work study at all

Instead, he takes some time to process everything he just went through. Not just everything that happened with Overhaul, but his entire awful experience with Nighteye. He bonds more with Eri, trains more with All Might, speaks with Yoichi in his dreams more often, and sees Hound Dog a few times to help cope with what happened. Even works more on controlling Blackwhip like you said. I also would have loved a scene where he confides in All Might about how Nighteye treated him and All Might reaffirms that he is worthy of One For All and that it wasn't Nighteye's place to decide that.

True, this would make for a slow arc. But I think taking some time to himself would have done Izuku well. The problem with this is that it might have put him behind his classmates, but he was only a first year. His work study could have been done at another time. It was never a requirement for first years in the first place.

From a narrative perspective, it would have been hard to place him in the Paranormal Liberation War. The UA students were only there because of their Work Studies. However, if Mirio who wasn't part of an agency at the time- and wasn't even technically an active UA student- could show up, there could have been a way to write him in somehow.

2. Izuku works under literally any other hero doing work studies

You can't tell me he wouldn't at least be considered by other heroes. He was the one who took down Overhaul and saved Eri, a mission both Fatgum and Ryuku were apart of. It should be common knowledge among the pros how skilled and capable he is. If other first year students got work studies so easily, you can't tell me that he couldn't have interned with anyone else.

(Perfect chance to have him bond with other 1A students by the way. Or even 1B students. Could have even had him work alongside Iida in Hosu. Hori, it's okay to have him spend time with people other than Bakugou)

I'm sorry, I just can't see Izuku willingly working under a man who abused his family and is practically the embodiment of corruption of hero society. Bakugou, sure, but not someone as moral as Izuku is. He was (rightfully) infuriated by Overhaul's treatment of Eri, why in the world would he tolerate Endeavor? And even if you make the argument that Endeavor's changing, Izuku would have no way of knowing that. Why wouldn't he at least try to reach out to other heroes?

Would have been even better if he at least tried to convince Todoroki to do the same. Would have shown that he really did care about his friend's well-being and wanted him to be free from his father's control.

But hey, what do I know🤷🏾‍♀️

AU where Stain and Dabi a terrifying and successful villains. If you wanr to give them a twist it’s on you.

1- Stain, on hearing the nomu start to wreak havoc on Hosu, decides not to bother toying with a hero student, annoying as that one might be. Stain is terrifying because he's efficient. He cuts Native's throat, tells Tenya he should have focused on the hostage, and leaves. His shtick works because he sticks with it. He's the Hero Killer. Not a child killer, not a villain killer. So he won't let his return attack on the LoV be spotted by any public, but he'll be sure to make it clear he's not with the league. He vanishes before Tenya or Izuku can find him.

2- had Touya joined a different chat room one link above what he clicked, he would have ended up pulled in with Dr. Ujiko. Instead, he fell down the MLA pipeline. And when he runs away, he doesn't end up in a hospital. He ends up a favorite of ReDestro.

3- Dabi stays there a while, with support equipment to get his fire even stronger without hurting him. ReDestro delights in his enthusiasm and dramatics. Dabi thinks ReDestro is an idiot, but he tolerates it because it's all for his grand revenge plan. Until, eventually, there's only so strong Dabi can get. There's weaknesses in his quirk. Geten shows promise too. So Dabi acts, but this one has learned his lesson from the failed attempt to kill his first replacement in Shoto. Instead, he frames his cousin for killing ReDestro- after all, they can't find fingerprints on a half melted icicle, and they wouldn't look anyway when Geten seems obvious there. Dabi inherits a lot of money and Detnerat equipment, then leaves. He didn't care for the MLA's goals, after all.

4- not caught, Stain continues his thing. He kills three heroes in each city. He just does it faster now, because every time Shigaraki figures out where he is, nomu or LoV members tend to go there too. Between Stain, the LoV, and a mysterious villain who keeps setting massive fires, heroes are on high alert and full patrol. It gets worse after Kamino. Rather than canon where the HPSC gets higher standards at the exam, now they're desperate for numbers. Stain follows All Might, who asks if he's going to be killed for failing at kamino. Stain scoffs, since he beat AfO then, and says no- as long as All Might is continuing in doing all he can. Which means making his students better. Which means taking care of himself, not giving in to Nighteye's prophecy. All Might asks how he knows about that, and Stain leaves without explaining, but it's clear to All Might that Stain can get too close to UA, which means the students are in danger of his high expectations as well. He brings this up, and they decide to disallow internships instead... Until the HPSC forces them to reverse that. Still, Nedzu warns Nighteye that Stain might be heading his way, and that he won't have Mirio or Izuku as interns until that's taken care of.

5- since the HPSC let more pass the exam this year instead of less, everyone in 1A got their licence. Shoto takes an internship with Rocklock. Dabi attacks the agency, and Shoto barely manages to keep an ice wall around them to save their lives. Dabi tells Shoto good luck and vanishes, and Rocklock sends him back to UA since he kinda has to focus on rebuilding his agency. Shoto, who's figured Dabi has something against Endeavor and will follow him if he goes to another agency, asks Izuku if he wants to join him at his father's for their internships, unaware this will end up bringing both Dabi and Stain down on the team. But hey, they're the number one hero agency in the country now. Surely they can handle two villains, even if they're that bad... Right?

I am a reader who largely tolerates canon events, even when they piss me off. Only thing that really made me sad was that Horikoshi didn't extend the story's stay in the hospital. A longer Izuku and Toshinori conversation would have been nice, and I think Torino should have rolled up to participate. In fact, I think Tsukauchi should have jammed all three of them in the same room, Hosu Boys-style.

It also funny how when his students are in genuine danger, he just twiddles his thumbs and does nothing about it.

He saw that Ida chose Hosu and only Hosu for his internship and brushed it aside. This is after a) Tensei was nearly killed by Stain, and b) Ida was explicitly stated as acting incredibly differently due to it.

He saw Izuku wasn't in control of Blackwhip when it first manifested (something I talked to you about before) and did absolutely nothing. This is after a) both All Might and Vlad King tell him they should stop the match, and b) Izuku is screaming in pain and is begging his classmates to run before they get hurt or killed. Keep in mind that he has the PERFECT Quirk for a situation like this. Fuck, that's why Eri was placed under his care in the first place.

Dadzawa defenders love bringing up the USJ and Forest Camp as some sort of gotcha that he does care for his students, but that's literally the bare minimum of what a hero and a teacher should be doing.

And on top of all of this, Japanese homeroom teachers are supposed to essentially be counselors and third parents to their students. Yet he acts like he barely tolerates them at best. Some father figure he is 🙄

In Lack Of Defense to Aizawa

-And to varying extents literally every other UA staff member, and basiclly anyone in any sort of authority or who just exists in MHA at all.

Something I saw recently (when I started this post, months ago, anyways) that kind of pissed me of (that I'm posting here, with no connections to where it happened, because it was on a nice fic I like and I don't want to bring crap into the comments just because I don't agree with the author's view on something) is the idea that Aizawa is... how do I put this, more excusable because he doesn't know the full story behind Izuku and Bakugou.

And... to some extent, that isn't wrong, is the thing. He doesn't know that Bakugou systematically made Izuku's life hell, so he can't be expected to react to it (you can question how he would react to it, and that's a completely fair thing to be concerned about, all things considered, though that isn't the point of all this)... but. The thing is, he can be expected to react to what he does know/see, and that's the vastly justifiable criticism of him as a teacher comes from.

Day One: Bakugou attacks Izuku for.... existing with a Quirk. And here's the thing, Aizawa does stop that, but Izuku, and most people who read the story, phrase that as, 'Aizawa stopped Bakugou! Good job Aizawa!'. That's not the right response. The right response is: Aizawa stopped Bakugou, as is his literal job; it's not something that should be acknowledged as unique or impressive. Aizawa being the only person in Izuku's life to stop Bakugou is not glowing praise for Aizawa, it's blistering condemnation for everyone else. Not letting your students try to kill each in front of you is, in fact, the bare fucking minimum.

And here's the where the problem starts: Aizawa does that... and nothing else. Good Old 'Expel 'Em All' Aizawa watches a student attack a fellow student in front of him (after, for the record, sabotaging the same student in the race by blasting him with his explosions, which... is also something that, at least, should be something discussed, if not be summarily expelled over, since being happy is expulsion worthy in Aizawa Land, or being someone that reminds him of All Might) and his response is complaining that Bakugou is making him do more work. Which. You know, is bad. He doesn't even scold Bakugou, or warn him, or do anything to punish him for this.

'You're giving me dry eye, damn it!'

Yes. Because, when one student attacks another, that is the concerning point. How it inconveniences you.

(For the record, I'll touch on all the other problems with this chunk of time, which are present but not actually on target for this post, just to be thorough: doing this test at all, when they already passed, doing it on day one, doing it, apparently, because they were excited and/or because he reminded Eraserhead of All Might, threatening to expel Izuku for daring to not having control of his Quirk, being proud he only broke one finger, not doing anything to help him stop breaking his bones, teaching his students that he'll only lie to them by his whole, 'Logical Ruse' bit, (which if anything should make his threats have less bite when he fails to follow through on them every time), and sabotaging the score when, as I've discussed before, there's no way Toru, at the very least, could outperform Izuku on a test around the physical abilities of her Quirk when her Quirk is invisibility.... a test that, for extra hypocrite points, he couldn't have passed as a student.)

Day Two: Bakugou actually tries to murder Izuku in a training exercise. And I say murder deliberately; All Might explained what would happen if he hit Izuku with his gauntlet, and doesn't even argue with that assessment, instead saying, 'He won't die if he dodges!'.

In other words, Bakugou is saying, 'He'll die if I hit him!'

The next day, after reviewing the test, Aizawa says.... 'Bakugou, stop acting like a seven year old.'

Not: we're taking away your gauntlets until you can use them responsibly. Not: killing people is wrong. Not: disobey a teacher again and I'll expel you. Not: Any form of punishment or disciplinary action for, again, an actual murder attempt.

Grow up.

...Do you see where the problem is here?

Beyond this point, there's god knows how many times Bakugou yells at and/or attacks Izuku for Reasons(TM) throughout their entire school life, none of which is actually hidden from anyone, culminating in the Final Exam where Aizawa admits they have problems working together.... which is, in itself, phrasing that puts the burden as much on Izuku as it does on Bakugou. That is, needless to say, bullshit: the problem is completely on Bakugou's side, because Izuku would be pathetically grateful to his abuser if they could work together, and he constantly does his best to make that happen, no matter how often that never actually works for him.

This phrasing fits Aizawa's 'solution', which is to pair them together for their exam against All Might, again putting the burden for Bakugou's attitude on Izuku rather than dealing with it himself, with the (again, lied about) consequences of not going with the rest of the class on their summer outing, along with probably being closer to flunking out of school. This attitude culminates, ultimately, in BvD2, where Bakugou does everything to start the fight, including launching the first blow, Izuku is defending himself, yet they are both held equally responsible.

So. In Aizawa Land, if I walk up to someone with a crowbar, start hitting them, and they hit me back so I don't crack their skull open, we're both to blame for the fight; after all, they hit me, right? Seriously. Has he arrested civilians for fighting back against people trying to rob/rape/murder them? Because under this logic? The victim is just as much to blame as the robber/rapist/murder.

Alright, so as much as these posts are generally scathing criticisms, I do strive to be somewhat fair. All of these points? All of these points apply to All Might. And to Nezu. And Midnight. And Present Mic. And Class 1A. And Class 1B. And... you know what, let me sum it up: this applies to everyone who has seen Bakugou and Izuku interact, and went, 'Aww..., they're rivals!'. Which. Is basiclly every named character with any screen time, barring maybe the original version of Best Jeanist, before he became an empty shell whose only job is to praise Bakugou.

This isn't a unique problem. This is a Bakugou Problem. This is because no one can hold Bakugou accountable for anything he does, ever, and because of his quantum characterization, Bakugou lives in a consequence free reality where he says and does one thing, and literally the entire world goes selectively blind to act like he did something else entirely. It makes him come out of every situation smelling like roses, even if he spent the entire time bathing in shit, and it makes everyone around him pay the price for him instead. I'm only focusing on Aizawa for one reason: because the fandom worships him.

People love the Kakashi replacement more than they did the original model, and unlike Bakugou this isn't contentious; Bakugou may be more popular but Eraserhead's love is far more universal.

Dadzawa, despite being blatant falsehoods, is the most common take on him, but it's not even that that sparked this rant; it's that people look at him as an actual, flawed, person who makes mistakes, but refuse to go to the next logical step on those mistakes because he's 'doing his best'.

Because he's not.

He has never done his best, because he is falling asleep in class. There is no way for me to look at this disaster, sleeping in class, threatening his students, constantly eroding their trust in his words, and think, 'he's doing his best', because he isn't.

'Doing your best' means, basiclly, you never could have done this, because of some inability, but your trying anyways. All Might is trying his best, because he doesn't know how to teach at all (now that he's done training up Izuku, anyways). He's failing, yes, but he's clearly trying.

Aizawa isn't, because he's not trying. Unlike All Might, he can teach, is the thing, he's just choosing not too. Once in a blue moon, when the school administration puts it's baleful eye on him he actually does teach; he did help Momo and Shoto, for example. Problem being, he only did it then, when he was forced to test them, instead of... any time before their exam (while still somehow missing Shoto's entire everything at the same time, which is failure on such a enormous level it's kind of impressive). Then, of course, there's his mini-me, who he took from a skinny branch of a scrub to being able to use his combat scarf proficiently in battle, an absurdly exotic weapon who having an even a basic mastery must have taken months of difficult, intensive training. If Aizawa was 'trying his best', he'd be doing that teaching... you know, at all, basiclly and not when he's being held at professional gun point, or when it's for his one favorite who isn't even in his class.

Aizawa isn't doing his best, he's doing the absolute minimum he can to keep this position.

And just... look. I get that he's tired. I get he has two full time jobs. I get that that's easily the most sympathetic emotion for basiclly everyone these days, that everyone can vibe to existential exhaustion on a soul deep level. But the thing is, every Hero teacher we've seen, period, is an actual Hero. Beyond Aizawa, the only person we see having trouble with that is All Might who is, A, a new teacher, B, canonly shit with his time management and has a long, storied history of overdoing it, and C, is missing most of his internal organs. Forget teaching, every morning the man wakes up vaguely surprised he's still alive! All Might has a great excuse for being tired and overworked. Everyone else? Everyone is also working two jobs, with Present Mic working three, and still handling it a lot better than Eraserhead is.

No one made Eraserhead come in the next day after being brutally beaten to the point where he had permanent damage and was still covered in bandages, which probably set back his recovery by weeks, realistically. No one is making him work so hard he has to take naps in class to stay functional. And yet, he's the only one who can't seem to keep that schedule up.

He chose to have two jobs, and unlike most people with two jobs, he doesn't need them; he's not being a teacher so he can get a steady paycheck and have food to eat, this is a luxury to him, a choice he's willingly making for fun, not to support himself.

Despite being clear on the way to being the symbol of peace, Izuku had many weaknesses.

All Might merchandise, you, soft blankets, spicy foods, tickling, bugs … just to name a few. You couldn’t count the amount of times you’ve come home to the sheepish hero Deku sitting on your bed holding some new form of an All Might product. Or the amount of times you’ve had to roll him out of your blankets just to get him to go to work. You even ended up having to ban soft blankets from your bed entirely, so he wouldn’t stay home every day.

Not to mention his whole alcohol thing, which was just pitiful at this point. The mere scent of an alcoholic beverage sent him into an anxious rant about why he can’t have any, one you usually had to stop with a kiss—or a smack to the forehead. He didn’t even drink the little flutes of champagne given to him at fancy events.

You have many memories of him, Katsuki, Shouto, and Momo all hidden away during the larger parties your class would secretly hold in your second and third years, to avoid being offered alcohol. You’re sure your classmates had plenty of videos of their reactions when cornered, even you had one of the time Katsuki and Izuku worked together to launch themselves out of a window.

The build up of never being able to drink stopped them from being able to form a tolerance of any kind as teens. You understood why, though. With a powerful quirk, especially with one like One For All, consuming alcohol posed too many dangerous possibilities. Still, it didn’t make it all any less funny.

However, tonight was different.

Class A had decided to have a fun get together on one of the rare occasions all twenty of you were available. It all started with Mina complaining in the group chat, whining about how it had been forever since you’ve all been together. Then, next thing you knew you’d all settled on a date where everyone was free. Such was the life of a pro hero.

Once the date and time was decided, you all (read: Shouto) pooled together enough money to rent out a section of a special pro hero bar. It resided in Hosu, a simple single story built in a more secluded part of town. Appearing as a normal, boring whire office building, it hid its true purpose from the public—and more importantly: villains.

The perfect place for heroes to relax and let loose. Not only was it private, but it also had quirk suppressing technology lining its walls, as well as bouncers trained by the hero commission. In case things ever got out of hand.

Which brought you to your current predicament: your husband, face flushed from drinking, pressed up against you. Trying to flirt with you.

Izuku looked absolutely adorable, already drunk off his ass from a few cocktails. Babbling anything that came to his mind, which mainly consisted of compliments.

“Has anyone ever told you how pretty you are?” Izuku asked, holding your hands in his own. He moved his face closer to yours. “Cause you’re really, really, really … really pretty.”

You giggled as he spoke, pressing a kiss to his fingers. His expression was schooled to one of the utmost seriousness, as if the knowledge that you are attractive is extremely important information for you to know. You couldn’t help but grin fondly at him as he blinked lazily, his words coming out slurred.

You decided to tease him.

“You know, my husband actually loves telling me how much he likes my appearance. He does it pretty much daily, it’s really cute. And really hot, to be honest. I like men confident enough in their masculinity to compliment others without feeling it makes them less of a man.” You sent him a wink that didn’t match your tender smile. It was one of your favorite traits of Izuku, and even though it should be the bare minimum for men, you couldn’t help but praise him for it every chance you got.

Instead of flustering like you expected, his eyes widened and he tried to yank himself away from you. But he had poor coordination with his body, and ended up stumbling further into you. You jumped up as he nearly crashed onto the floor, steadying him on his feet and forcing him to sit back down. You didn’t fail to notice his trembling.

“Hey, what’s the matter?” You frowned in concern, reaching up to brush his bangs from his sweaty forehead. You felt a pang of hurt when he swatted your hand away.

“You’re married!” he cried in despair, finally looking up at you with tear filled eyes. “I shouldn’t like you so much! I can’t like you! You’re so so pretty, and I like you so, so, so much, but…” he trailed off, eyes nearly bugging out of his head when he noticed the band on his left hand. He brought it up to his face, eyes wide in horror. “And I’m married too!” He looked absolutely distraught, it was surprising he hadn’t started crying yet.

You blinked.

And blinked again.

Then laughed, grabbing his face and rubbing his cheeks adoringly. “Yeah, to me.”

He stared at you, and you could almost see his mind exploding. The thought made you snicker.

You showed him your own ring. Twisting it around, the underneath became visible where his initials had been engraved. You flipped his own palm over and showed him where yours were written as well.

“See, this has your name, and yours has mine.”

He inspected the rings for a couple minutes, before leaning back to look at you. This time his face was full of disbelief.

“No way… are you serious?”

You smiled, and nodded. “Yes, baby.”

The confirmation made him beam, completely overjoyed. He was smiling so hard his giant eyes were nearly gone behind his freckled cheeks. “Really?”

You nodded again, laughing. “Really.”

“You’re lying.”

You shook your head. “I’m not lying, Izu.”

Then he started crying. You jolted, immediately gripping his face in concern.

“Izuku? What’s wrong?”

But after being with him for so long, you should’ve known better.

“‘M just so happy,” he sobbed, dopey grin still on his face. “You’re just so … wow. And you’re mine?” More tears.

You sighed in a mix of relief and exasperation, petting his head as he buried it into your chest. His body shook as he continued to cry from happiness.

“It’s alright, baby.”

“Love you s’much.”

“Love you too.”

“The fuck’s wrong with Izuku?” A gruff voice asked, and you looked up to see Katsuki, angry as usual.

Despite the scowl on his face, you could see worry in his red eyes. He may have grown since his UA days, dropping the mean nickname and considered him and Izuku friends, but he still refused to show his emotions properly.

It was his Bakugou Katsuki charm, as Denki had dubbed it.

You agreed, it was endearing in a way. But it was still in a Katsuki way, and because you desired to live past retirement, you never told him so.

Apparently Denki didn’t wish the same for himself, seeing as he made the comment right to Katsuki, and ended up getting an explosion to the face.

You never felt sympathy for him during those situations, knowing brought it upon himself.

“Kachan!” Izuku gasped excitedly at the sound of the blond’s voice, pulling away to grin at his best friend. “Look Kachan! This is my spouse! Can you believe it? Aren’t they so pretty?”

Katsuki stared at him. “Uh… yeah, nerd. I was in your wedding. And they’re okay looking, I guess.” You raised your eyebrows at the almost compliment. Possibly tipsy, then.

Izuku gasped as if Katsuki had personally offended him. “What do you mean “okay”?! They’re gorgeous!” He squished your face, bringing it closer to Katsuki’s to show him.

Katsuki gave you an amused look. “How much did he drink?”

You snickered. “One too many cocktails. Dunno why he thought he could handle them.” It came out muffled from Izuku’s grip.

Izuku cut in before Katsuki could respond. “Kachan! Agree with me!”

Katsuki sighed, rolling his eyes. “Sure, Izuku.”

“Aren’t they gorgeous?!”

“Yes, Izuku. They’re … gorgeous.” You snickered at Katsuki’s blush, the explosive hero sending you a glare in return.

Suddenly you were jerked back into Izuku’s hold. He tucked you into his side, arms protectively circling around your body. Letting out a noise akin to a growl, he glared at Katsuki with a ferocity you didn’t even know he could direct towards him. With your head pressed against his chest you could feel his heart beating rapidly with adrenaline, as if he were in mortal danger.

“They’re mine.” Your hair began to stand on end, and you flinched when you saw green lightning rolling off of Izuku’s arms. Oh fuck, he was mad.

Hopefully the quirk suppressors worked as well as everyone said.

“Woah man, what’s going on?” Eijirou stepped in, having been walking by to get more drinks. They were forgotten though as he put himself between you, Izuku, and Katsuki.

A common occurrence during your UA days, only you were used to watching from afar. You were too on edge to reminisce, though.

“Kachan’s trying to steal my spouse away from me!”

“You made me compliment them! I don’t like them like that!”

“Lies! How can you not like them?!”

“Because I fucking don’t! You don’t control the way I feel!”

“What do you mean you just don’t?!”

Eijirou met your tired gaze, face contorted in confusion.

“What are they doing?” He asked, just loudly enough to be heard over the pair’s shouting match.

“Fighting.”

He gave you an unamused look, and turned to Katsuki.

“Katsuki, you’re making it worse,” Eijirou murmured to the blond, placing a hand on his shoulder. He huffed in irritation, but turned away.

Izuku’s grip on you tightened. You looked back at his face, and almost snorted. He looked like an angry puppy, face red from alcohol.

An angry puppy that could make the entire building collapse, even with his quirk suppressed, you reminded yourself.

Definitely need to do something about that.

You snuggled into him, feeling him relax slightly at your contact. You could use that to your advantage. Somehow, you managed to turn yourself around enough to reach a hand up and cup Izuku’s face lovingly. “Darling, you don’t have to worry about Katsuki. I only have eyes for you, Izuku.”

His threatening aura dissipated in a flash; as if a light switch had been flicked off. Picking you up, he maneuvered you to sit in his lap properly, and buried his face in your neck once you were comfortable. You snickered when you felt how hot his face was burning on your skin, reaching up to comb your fingers through his soft hair.

Eijirou dragged Katsuki away when he started making gagging noises at the show of affection. You watched as they joined your ex-peers, laughing as Katsuki was eventually coaxed onto the dance floor with the others.

Izuku stayed practically glued to you for a while after, pressing kisses to your shoulder every now and then. Contented to just bask in each other’s company, you ordered another drink from the bartender. They were obviously annoyed at Izuku, shooting angry glances at him every few seconds, but complied. Probably trying to get you to leave as soon as possible.

“Why don’t you go back to complimenting me,” you joked once the silence became too boring for you.

Izuku seemed to like the idea, seeing as he literally brightened at your words. He nuzzled his face into your neck as he began rattling off praise again.

“Yeah! You’re sooooooo pretty! And smart! And talented! And gorgeous! And pretty!”

“Sweetie, you already said pretty.”

“You are very, very attractive.”

You snorted. “Alright, Izu.”

“And I love you very, very much.”

“I love you very, very much too, Izuku.”

“Not as much as I love you, though.”

“Um, excuse me. I love you more than you love me.”

“Nuh-uh!”

“Mhmm!”

The bartender groaned under their breath as you fought over who loved the other more. This was going to be a very long night.

adopted as a baby, the lord and lady of riverrun were not done with having children when they were told they can have no more. they named her lumina after being told it was rumoured to mean ‘sunshine’ in the old tongue and as she grew older, they realized they could not have picked a more ill fitting name for their youngest daughter.

she prefers mina almost exclusively and has ever since she was a young child, though she’ll tolerate being called lumina depending on who does it.

coming from a wealthy family didn’t do much to encourage her into behaving much like a lady. her nature was too wild, too easily bored of the mundane to truly sit and do as she was told. her stitches were often crooked anyway, and she was a terrible dancer. thankfully at the very least she was allowed to train with a sword and other weaponry.

it was always with a sword that she excelled at, and she could always hold her own in a fight. she wasn’t a graceful fighter, instead scrappy and harsh, never afraid to fight dirty if it meant she was going to win the fight.

her parents quickly had no choice but to accept their daughter would never be what they’d expected, but they loved her all the same. she had the best master-at-arms in the riverlands to teach her and while she still had to finish her lessons about hosues and history in the mornings, most of her time was dedicated to honing her skills at both hand to hand combat and her sword.

her mother’s death when she was only eleven introduced her to the sharp prickle of grief for the first time and it’s in part what steeled her off against sharing so much of what really went on in her heart. 

her harsh disposition only became harder when her father ended up remarrying. she wants to see her father happy of course, but the woman he’d chosen to marry? she couldn’t be awful. all she seemed to do was try and arrange marriages for her and her siblings, annoyance running through every fibre of her being when at the thought of having to squash her dreams in order to meet someone else’s expectations.

she kept out of the castle for as long as she could in those early days. she’d go fishing with the fishermen, clambering onto their boats and learning how to catch the very same fish that was on the tully banners. she’d train out in the yard, and she spent much of her time eating fruits by the river with the kids in riverrun she’d grown up around, or she’d swim against the current for endurance. there were many days where she got her own form of entertainment by pushing her siblings into the river.

the northern kingdom may mostly follow the old gods, but the tully’s have always been of the faith of the seven and lumina had dreams of knighthood since she was a little girl, so she’s sent to another house to be warded at age twelve to learn (wc!!!!).

people thought she would always change her mind about it, but when her eighteenth birthday rolls around and she’s still as keen on the idea as ever, she’s finally knighted and often would travel down to the southern kingdom for tourneys. 

her true dream though is to prove her skill enough to impress the northern king into offering her place in the kingsguard. she’s always enjoyed the idea of her name being written down in the books as one of the best warriors of her time at he side of the northern king. 

essentially her northern pride is what led to her becoming a spy for the northern master of whispers. she’s not one that dazzles rooms and that’s the way she likes it, so she tends to cling to the walls of the rumour and happily overhearing all the gossip of the room. she hopes one day that if she does a good enough job it will just fast track her to the kingsguard. 

she got herself into a bit of a scandal this year with her marriage to tharon redsmith. her step-mother kept pushing and pushing at her to look for a spouse and one day she snapped at an event when pushed to far and it sent her right into his arms. she really did love him, it burning fast and quick within her and it only helped that it would spite her step-mother. after only a few months of marriage though she had realized what a mistake she had made, that she’d have to give up being in the kingsguard if she were married, and she and tharon really would have been better as friends. she panicked and slept with someone else before returning back to ask him for a divorce. 

given they had no kids and couldn’t disprove that the marriage had been consummated, the divorce was allowed and only occurred just before they all arrived in king’s landing. 

basically all this girl cares about is fighting and being a little shit, she doesn’t go out of her way to be nice or anything but if she knew someone was in trouble she’d wanna help them out.

currently letting cleo hill try and court her even though she has absolutely does not entertain the thought of marriage again. she just thinks she’s cute and it’s funny.

the person she had an affair with: this wouldn’t have been too long ago, maybe a month or two before her divorce which happened right before they arrived in kings landing. they likely weren’t someone super important to mina, just someone who was in the vale at the right time. she’s probably a little awkward around them these days because she really does feel bad about using them as an excuse to divorce tharon.

the family that warded her: she probably would have been like 12 - 16 when she was warded with this house! it would have to be by someone who was either a knight or was a renowned warrior because she was largely sent there to further improve her swordsmanship. 

potential lover: mina isn’t the kind of person to sleep around and she’s not big on romance either, but she doesn’t like the idea of coming home to an empty bed all her life. she knows for a fact that she can’t give up her dream of being in the kingsguard, and she thinks that maybe this person would be content with just her company rather than her hand in marriage.

ex-love: probably her first real love. could have burned bright and fast or they could have been together for years, but they ended things because of mina’s ambitions to be in the kingsguard. she wouldn’t be allowed to be a wife or mother in the kingsguard, but for this muse those were things they couldn’t go without.

Mirae had always thought she was lowkey blessed with everything around her. She had been bullied in kindergarten for being tiny - a sad eyed baby named Donghun protected her and stuck with her. And stuck with her till university, 15 years later. She went to dorms, he rented an apartment, and took in a housemate a month later who instantly clicked with him named Park Junhee and she spent her first year vehemently hating the dorms. She also got scarily well with Junhee to the point of finding Donghun sulking way too many times about Junhee stealing his best friend away (Mirae and Junhee were in the same literature department when Mirae was majoring and Junhee was minoring and both Junhee and Donghun’s major was music production).

One year later, as much as she would have loved to move in with her best friend, or the love of her life as she liked to call him, she could not. So she looked for housemates and found the perfect house in the building next to Donghun’s and now loves them to death. They were one year younger than her, freshmen who had moved to Seoul together, childhood friends and on the first meeting Mirae had decided she would fight whoever even dared to make them sad.

She knew moving without telling the older men was a bad idea but she knew they would overreact - which she was proven right with when she went over to their apartment and told them she moved out of the dorm. They were happy until they heard she moved in with not one but 2 male housemates and then they lost it.

After a lot of yelling, threats and are you crazy?’s , they finally calmed down enough to agree to meet her two housemates - Kang Yuchan and Kim Byeongkwan. With the strong belief that ended up proving right, Donghun and Junhee ended up liking the two freshmen so much that the strict front they had decided to keep in front of them dissolved in less than 5 minutes.

They all ended up being close friends who would weekly trash one of the houses in the name of movie and game nights and they even added the soft spoken shy neighbour of Donghun and Junhee - Kim Sehyoon.

It was at one of those night-ins at Mirae’s where Junhee was cooking and she was helping him when it happened.

Junhee was telling her a story - all with his exaggerated gestures which she was thoroughly enjoying when suddenly he pointed a celery near her face and asked, “so what is your opinion over this Miss. Mirae?”

Her brain short circuited - that was the only logical explanation she had for what happened next. With maintaining eye contact with Junhee as he waited for her to answer, she leaned down slowly and bit the celery as she saw his eyes widen and saw him gulp audibly. They kept on staring at each other as she slowly chewed the celery, Junhee opening his mouth finally to speak when chan loudly called them.

“Noona! Hyung! What's taking you so long?”

And with that the moment dissipated.

For the next three days, Mirae avoided Junhee as much as she could (because she was a coward) and only met him with someone else besides her. 3 days later she was summoned by Donghun to their apartment and she took a  breath of relief when she went in and Donghun said Junhee was out.

They were drinking coffee on the couch when Donghun cleared his throat and turned to look at her.

“What happened between you and Junhee?” he asked and she choked on her coffee. After rubbing her back for a couple of seconds, he repeated his questions and she groaned.

“Mirae, Junhee has been sulking and whining to me about you avoiding him and I'm tired. So you are going to tell me what happened.” Donghun said as he stared her down with his arms crossed across his chest and she felt herself grow smaller in his gaze.

“Why don't you ask him?” she murmured and he sighed.

“All he does is turn red in his face, stammer and leave and i would like an actual response to my questions.”

At that even Mirae turned red and looked away and Donghun cursed.

“I'm not letting you leave if you don't tell me. And soon Junhee will be back so.” Donghun said with a smirk as he leaned back and saw a panicked expression fill out Mirae’s face.

A final look of resignation came over and Donghun knew he won.

“I fucked up.” she finally said and Donghun raised an eyebrow and she stared at him.

“I've known you for 15 years Mirae and I know how you exaggerate stuff. I'm gonna need a lot more than that to decide whether you actually fucked up or not.” Donghun said and Mirae rolled her eyes.

“We were cooking at Chan’s right? So we were talking and he brought this celery in front of me..” she said and Donghun nodded.

“You didn't bite it right?”

“I bit it!” Mirae said and Donghun laughed loudly while Mirae groaned.

“ i can't believe you actually did that!” Donghun exclaimed between his laughters and she hit him with a cushion as she got up and went to the kitchen mumbling.

“So what now?” Donghun asked as he followed her till there, still slightly laughing but stopping when she glared at him.

“I just keep wanting to kiss him and think of kissing him and I don't want to ruin our friendship and it's just very annoying okay?” she said and Donghun sighed.

Before he could speak anything though, they heard the main door unlocking and Junhee calling for Donghun while Mirae panicked in the kitchen.

“Quick, go hide in my room , I'll help you leave after he goes into his room.” Donghun said and Mirae ran to his room.

“Junhee-ya!” Donghun called the other to the kitchen who peeked in.

“Did you meet Mirae today?” he asked and Junhee pouted.

“No hyung. I don't think she even went to the class today.” he said with a pout and Donghun really wanted to hit these two.

Knowing from Junhee’s lack of alcohol tolerance and frequency in drinking, Donghun was very aware of the budding crush of his roommate on his best friend. And this was his chance.

“Junhee-ah can you pick a blanket from my room? Let’s watch a movie.” Donghun said and Junhee nodded, happily going to Donghun’s room.

As soon as Junhee entered the room, he heard someone ask, “Did Junhee go to his room?” and he looked up to come face to face with Mirae who looked equally confused to see him. They also heard the room door close and lock and they both looked at it, wide-eyed.

“TALK ABOUT STUFF!” they heard Donghun yelling from outside and both avoided each other’s eyes.

“Talk about what hyung!” Junhee yelled back and they heard Donghun groan from outside.

“MIRAE TALK ABOUT THE CELERY AND KISS THING, JUNHEE TALK ABOUT THE CRUSH THING!” They heard Donghun yell and they both flushed pretty quickly after hearing him.

A silence prevailed in the room for a short while until Junhee cleared his throat.

“About the celery thing.. It's okay there's nothing awkward between us so let’s just go back to how we were huh?” Junhee mumbled and Mirae would have agreed had she not heard Donghun yelling about the crush part to Junhee. From what she could figure out, there was a probability that Junhee had a crush on her and she almost wanted to laugh at themselves because they were totally meant to be. They were both cowards.  And it was clear from how Junhee was trying to preserve the friendship - he had totally missed the kiss part. So she was going to take a chance.

“We are not gonna move on from the celery thing Junhee.” she said as she took a few steps towards him.

“I can't stop thinking about that time - what could have happened had Chan not interrupted? Huh Junhee?” she said as he gulped visibly.

“N-nothing.” he stuttered and she chuckled.

“We would have kissed Junhee. Tell me Junhee, would you hate the idea of kissing me?” she asked as she was inches away from his face, standing on her tip-toes and trying to get him to accept.

“No! Obviously not Mirae!” Junhee siad, instinctively his hands coming up on her waist as she smiled.

“Then what's stopping you?” 

She reached forward to close to distance between them and felt his hands tighten on her waist as he deepened the kiss.

Standing in the middle of Donghun’s room with her hands in his hair and his on her waist, they kept kissing each other till they had to part for air. And when they did, they stood with their foreheads touching, breathing heavily and smiling stupidly.

“I’ve wanted to do that for so long.” Junhee mumbled against her cheeks as he leaned down to kiss her again gently. 

“And you almost chose not to Park Junhee.” she said as she softly hit him on the chest and he laughed.

“Think Donghun will open the door now that we have sorted stuff?” he asked as he giggled and she shrugged.

“Lets try.” she said and they went to the door, ready to bang it till Donghun opened but they both stared at the door in disbelief as Junhee tried the doorknob and it opened.

“It wasn't locked?” she whispered and they both laughed even more as they left the room to stare at Donghun wearing his headphones and sitting on the couch.

He looked up at them as they came out of the room holding hands.

“You didn't lock the door?” Junhee said and Donghun smiled at them mischievously and said, “I was not going to force you to talk to something but I did want you to talk.”

Then he pointedly looked at their held together hands and smirked. “Guess it worked.” and they both looked away, smiling shyly.

“Some ground rules first.” Donghun said as he got up and stared the new couple down.

“No sex in this hosue. I have known her for 15 years and i DON'T want to know how she moans.”

By the time he ended his sentence, he was laughing loudly and the others were red in the face,  screaming at him.

🔥~ Todoroki isn’t used to affection, nor is he used to healthy relationships in general.

❄️~ Sure his friends at UA are helping him through it, and have been making progress since the sports festival and the hosu incident, but he still needs you.

🔥~ In all honesty, he needs you as a support system and as a comfort whenever he doubts himself or gets caught up in his head about his past or his quirks.

❄️~ Will treat you like the most precious thing in his life, which is what you are to him.

🔥~ Will take it upon himself to commit your favorite things to memory, and will sometimes surprise you with small gifts and maybe even flowers.

❄️~ Not used to PDA, and you’re okay with that, you have to help him work towards being more physical with you and you take it upon yourself to initiate most things with him, but only if you’re sure he’ll be okay with it.

🔥~ Loves every inch of you, and will not tolerate you talking down on yourself and your abilities one bit.

❄️~ It takes him a while but he’ll get to the point where he’s hyping you up whenever you feel down about something.

❄️~ You sing him to sleep sometimes, humming a casual tune while softly running your hands through his red and white hair.

🔥~ He’s there whenever you need him. He can’t stand it when you’re crying or upset, and always beats himself up internally but eventually gets over it and decides that making it better is more important.

❄️~ If you need help training or studying he’s always there to give you advice or help you study and understand the topics that are hard for you, and will walk you through everything and reward you with cuddles and kisses later.

🔥~ Sometimes the two of you sneak up to the roof or the front lawn of the dorm building and just rest in each other’s arms while gazing at the stars, telling stories and whispering sweet nothings to eachother.

❄️~ You’re his rock and he’s yours, through and through.

🔥~ Will call you pet names like ‘love’ or ‘darling’ or a shortened version of your name.

❄️~ You settle on calling him nicknames like ‘Todo’, ‘Roki’ or ‘Sho’, and maybe even a few pet names of your choice.

🔥~ Will make sure he never gets angry or unreasonably upset at you, he doesn’t even wanna come close or even give a hint at showing the behavior his father showed him and his mother, and you have to reassure him of the fact that he isn’t his father and that he’s worlds better than his father ever was.

❄️~ Overall, you love him and he loves you, with flaws he may have and troubled past or not, you’re always there for him and always make sure he’s okay, and he’s doing the same and more in return.

technically a Todoroki AU?

Isn't it weird how different Todoroki's character and story would be if Deku didn't try to get him to use his fire?

It was kind of unexpected for Deku to risk his chances of winning the tournament to save Todoroki (from a genre standpoint that is. This is in character for Deku)

Like, Todo compared himself, the son of Endeavor to Deku, who has All Might in his corner. The reason Endeavor "created" him was to surpass All Might, so it's entirely possible that he could have held a grudge against Deku and never became friends with him.

He might have remained season 1 Todoroki, or at least on the same trajectory as season 1 Todoroki.

He might not have ever used his fire in battle. The interesting part of this is that he was suffering from fatigue more with each subsequent match in the tournament. Bakugo pointed this out. More on what this implies later.

He might not have remembered what his mom said to him. He might not have visited his mom in the hospital.

He could have remained his loner self and not have been as willing to work together with his classmates. Like, consider the first training simulation 1-A did where he basically told Shoji to stand outside while he did all the work of just freezing the whole dang building and compare it to his final exam with Yaomomo where he (eventually) trusted her strategy and worked with her to succeed.

He might not have ended up in Hosu during the Stain arc. He probably only wanted to intern with Endeavor in canon because he could learn about how Endeavor uses fire to be a hero, but considering that and the fact that the wear his ice quirk had on his body at the sports festival, he might have traveled up north to train his tolerance for cold, far away from Endeavor. On top of that, Endeavor might not have even sent him an offer because before the sports festival, Endeavor just kind of accepted that Shouto was in a rebellious phase.
