the room was spinning slightly as she fumbled with the window latch, the cool night air brushing against her flushed cheeks. she knew she shouldn’t be doing this—sneaking out was becoming a habit, and it was only a matter of time before she got caught. but the thrill was too tempting, and besides, she’d managed to slip past him before. tonight wouldn’t be any different, right? with one foot already on the windowsill, she glanced back at her bedroom door, hoping the coast was clear. but just as she was about to swing her other leg over, the door creaked open. she froze, heart racing, as his familiar figure filled the doorway. great. just what she needed. she didn’t even have to look to know it was him. the new guy. the one who never seemed to sleep and always had that annoyingly calm expression, like he was just waiting for her to mess up. she sighed, reluctantly pulling her leg back inside and turning to face him. of course, he had to catch her now, of all times. “i was just… getting some fresh air,” she said, trying to sound nonchalant, though the slight slur in her words gave her away. “right,” she added, trying to salvage the situation. “i wasn’t going anywhere. just… needed a break from all this.” she gestured vaguely around her room, as if it were suffocating her. this wasn’t the first time he’d caught her, and she could tell he was already bracing himself for whatever excuse she’d throw at him next. she huffed, crossing her arms. “you can’t keep me locked up in here forever, you know.”
