About your last post.

I understand because I too used to throw every bit of 13 criticism into the right wing bin. It is only recently that I started to accept that some criticism of that era were reasonable. It was this video by verilybitchie about the women in Doctor Who that made me do a 180.

I think the insular nature of fandoms and the way the DW fandom is scattered around and formed by VERY different kind of fans only worsen the situation. It’s hard to know how good intentioned someone is when there’s a part of the fandom actively sabotaging the show since 2004.

(referencing this post) it was a video essay that changed my mind as well - i was super resistant going into it, but as i watched, i realized that i didn’t actually object to anything being said, only the idea of something i love being criticized. i felt sick to my stomach because the longer i watched, the more i realized they were right, i couldn’t defend my viewpoint, and i knew i wouldn’t be able to unsee the flaws in thirteen’s writing.

since then, i’ve also pulled my own 180° - i went from not tolerating criticism (because i thought it was all in bad faith) to openly and thoroughly criticizing doctor who, explicitly because i love it. it’s my favorite thing in the world and i shouldn’t have to lower my standards to enjoy it. the flux was what nailed the coffin shut for me, i couldn’t believe how sloppy the plot felt…. it went nowhere and many of its consequences went unresolved.

all of this is to say, i’ll always love thirteen and there’s a home in my heart for her, but honestly, the criticism is valid. she deserved better. i hope jodie works with big finish to make audios worthy of her effort and skill, because i know we all want the best for her! and i would LOVE for thirteen to have many years of terrific audio series :)))

On Assignments and The Discord

Hey Doodlers! We’ve got some not so great news.

Unfortunetely, we’re going to have to push back assignments being sent out. We’ve been working hard to get everything done but with so many people joining this year, it’s been hard to be as thourough as we’d like- and because of this, we’re now going to be shooting for assignments being sent out January 4th.

For context, last year we had around 54 people join the exchange, and it took us under two weeks to sort through assignments, during which we were pretty not-busy in our daily life. This year, things have been very hecktic on our end, and we have nearly DOUBLE the amount of people joining. It’s been a bit much!

We don’t think it’ll take us long to finish up, however, hence the new goal being January 4th. We apologize to everyone who’s been excited to receive their assignments, especially since we previously thought we wouldn’t need to push anything back.

We will also not be opening the Discord at the same time assignments are sent out. To be clear, the server is complete, but we won’t have anyone to mod until after January 15th. Like last year, invites will be sent out via email, or via DM if an email exception has been made.

We’re sorry for the bad news, but think these delays will ultimately make the exchange bigger and better. We don’t currently think it’ll be nessesary to push back gifting week, but will keep you updated on that as well, in case anything else comes up. Thank you all for your patience and support!! Tf2's universe is known for having some very ludicrous alternate hidtory. What's some examples of that for the Philippines (namely as it is relevant to Trapper?)?

this was difficult to think about 🤔 because the lore of the tf2 universe is so random and wacky.

the alternate history in tf2 does not make any fucking sense and i love it

so here's my take on the tf2 filipino history:

- Jose Rizal actually was Jack the Ripper in this universe. Not willingly, he just had a Jekyll and Hyde situation going on. No one suspected him because he was widely known as a pacifist that pushed for anti-violence

- He got chased down by Sherlock Holmes for it. Kinda like Light and L from Death Note. This started the rumors that Sherlock was Jose Rizal's secret 10th lover because what straight man would be that obsessed with chasing after another man 🤨

- Tinikling is a folk dance where two people tap and beat bamboo poles against each other while someone danced on it without getting their feet caught. One day, someone fumbled the dance and broke their ankle from getting their foot stuck in the bamboos. This is what lead to the invention of bear traps

- Filipinos are so competitive with singing that they would kill anyone who sang 'My Way' incorrectly or if they're off-key. They do not fuck around on karaoke nights !!!

- Speaking of competitive singing, you know how filipino karaoke machines can rate your singing on a scale of 1-100? the machines are programmed to rate anyone's singing by filipino standards. So if you're non filipino and you test your voice on the machine, chances are you won't even get a score past twenty.

- The guy who invented it was probably the one who started the 'My Way' purge cause the machine will automatically self destruct if you don't get a minimum score of 75 when you sing the song

- Trapper's grandpa died from the explosion when he scored a 73

It is a defect ra'as is growing more and more frustrated by, as each attempt to fix these two final flaws ends in resounding failure. Less extreme solutions are running dry.

Talia fears those solutions. Her child does too, she knows. For them, there is a possible solution, more extreme than anything ra'as would tolerate.

She sends him out of the league. To his father.
