Cold and windy as it might be, today was Hero's hooficure day. Leo disapproved of this because a) Hero was in the barn and he was left outside and b) Hero was getting attention and he was not. Absolutely unacceptable.

I tied him with a 'breakaway' knot so that I could get him untied in a hot hurry if he started getting rambunctious. He did ok, though; I stood with him for at least half the hoof trim time and combed his mane. My new overalls kept me pretty comfortable - score!

Our farrier was a CPA, and decided in his fifties that he wanted to switch careers and become a farrier. To be fair, he was always a horse person; this wasn't entirely new to him.

Hero, age 22, is starting to lose muscle mass even though he gets a very good level of exercise. I worry about him; age is catching up with him very abruptly this year. It's catching me, too, to be honest. We got a different feed for him, and hopefully that will help.
