I recently read some incredible whump in the manga I'm currently reading. Let me tell you all about it (tbh there's a lot of whump in this manga but a lot of it is a lil unsatisfying to me bc the character can manipulate his own blood and then also heals himself just like that so whenever he gets hurt it's actually a good thing and makes him stronger. Honestly I'm thinking of making a whump list about it though! The manga is really good and interesting and like I said, there's a lot of whumpy scenes).
So the manga is called Miyabichi no Onmyouji.
This is the description of it on the website I'm reading it on:
A time when the boundary between human and demon was vague. Ten sacred items â âJingiâ had been stolen from Mikadoâs Treasury by some demons. An imperial order to recover the Jingi was given to all the OnmyĹji in the capital, including âthe hereticâ â Fuzuki. He sets out to retrieve the first Jingi, but something unthinkable happenedâŚ
So the good whump starts in chapter 14 and lasts until chapter 17.
After fighting a demon and using too much blood to fight, Fuzuki is exhausted but then another demon shows up, this one even stronger than the previous one. He quickly beats Fuzuki and pins him to the wall and then puts a curse on him.
Ranmaru, a little half-demon weasle kid who Fuzuki promised to protect comes back after Fuzuki told him to escape while he fought the demon and manages to take Fuzuki to a safe place (for now).
Then the following happens (I wish I could make this shorter but everything about it is just so good, I need you all to see this!):
(Just FYI Ranmaru's mother died not too long ago and she left that handkerchief with him, so it's his treasure. Ranmaru and Fuzuki don't get along very well so him using his precious handkerchief to help Fuzuki is very heartwarming.)
After this, the demon that beat Fuzuki and put that curse on him shows back up but another Onmyouji (Toyochika) and also Fuzuki's right hand-man (a wolf demon named Hakuro) show up just in time to fight him off and save Fuzuki and Ranmaru.
(The next chapter is about Fuzuki and Toyochika's past. But the nice whump isn't quite over yet!)
Toyochika performs the curse removal and Fuzuki has a nightmare about his mean step-mother who despised him and made him do something terrible. Then it continues like this:Â
And that's pretty much where it ends (afterwards Fuzuki goes to Ranmaru's room, Ranmaru wakes up and tries to jump onto Fuzuki to hug him but he stops him and tells him 'not to jump at him so casually' and that makes Ranmaru very happy because Fuzuki being mean like this means he's back to normal.)
#hellooo it's me#whump talk#whump#manga#miyabichi no onmyouji#fuzuki#ranmaru#whump AND caretaking !!#lots of whumpy stuff in miyabichi no onmyouji#might make a whump list bc why not#anyways i enjoyed this soooooo much#my stomach was doing happy somersaults as i was reading this#(btw there's also quite a bit of hakuro whump in earlier chapters)#honestly you all should go and read it it's really good imo

Is childhood friends to lovers with Satoru valid? âźď¸
Fav trope tbh
ALWAYS VALID!!! best trope imoâŚ.. so many ways this could go with himâŚâŚ
one of the best things about a non-curse childhood friends to lovers au with satoru is the ability to explore the fact that heâs actually a genius and absolutely a loser, just a handsome and charming one so people overlook his loser-ish tendencies/heâs the nerd that makes being a nerd cool.... by all metrics youâre more âpopularâ than satoru is. youâre not a mathlete, youâre not in the chemistry club, you donât make nationals at chess or judo, and you donât spend your afternoons burying your head in a gameboy playing digimon; plus, youâre not nearly as insufferable as he is when it comes to interacting with other people. this doesnât make satoru feel bad in any way, he always says he has to surround himself with the best people, and youâre proof of that; youâre pretty and smart and students and teachers like you and youâre his best friendâyouâre proof that satoru is incredible.Â
he blames you for why he ends up being so needy. youâre the one that stuck by him even when he was causing problems or starting fights or picking on smaller kids (his growth spurt is really. not good for anyone), youâre the one who pinched his ear and jabbed his side and told him to get his head out of his ass and made sure he wasnât completely unbearable. youâre the one who remembered to bring a portable charger for his gameboy when you guys took trips into the city for the day, and youâre the one who kept playing for him when he was mid-battle but really had to use the bathroom. youâre the one who always answered his calls at ass oâclock in the morning when he needed to ramble about whatever, or couldnât sleep, or was begging you to let him drag you downtown to some niche pop-up store opening because, âyou donât get it theyâre releasing limited edition flavors of their best selling mochi! we HAVE to be in line three hours before hand if we want to get any!â he was supposed to just be a regular old loser, but you came along and gave him standards and friendship and intimacy and now you must reap what youâve sewn, he is your responsibility now.
satoru doesnât realize just how much youâve spoiled him until college/grad school, when he thinks other people wanna hear him nerd out about his shows or games or hobbies and they only endure it because heâs ridiculously beautiful. heâs kinda slow to this pattern at first, but once he catches it, he flops onto your bed, lamenting about how his beauty is blinding and you see the true him. you tease him about how heâs technically admitting that you see him as ugly, and he borderline starts crying and weeping, and honestly he likes to mess with you, but he doesnât know why he needs to hear you admit that heâs handsome out loud, but he doesnât let it go until youâre laughing and giving up, âokay, okay, iâm kidding satoru. youâre a very pretty princess and your suitors should want your hand for your personality, too.â and if you thought satoru wasnât normal before that, you were wrong; something in him short circuits that day and it takes him approximately three-business weeks of ruminating and pouting and running equations in his head and reading research papers on emotions and the brain and attraction and it doesnât come to him until heâs in the middle of his lecture, and he stops spinning his pencil so abruptly and breaks it in half and says to himself, out loud, âiâm in LOVE with her??â true loser lover behavior.Â
#anonymous#satoru in love đ¤ yuuta when he's pissed off = physical reminders that those two are blood relatives#i guess also yuuta in love too theyre just losers.... loser family ties so strong.....#pls just imagine you at soccer or cheerleading or whatever practice#and satoru in the bleachers with his long ass legs bent to rest his feet on the row below him#ds in hand tongue sticking out absolutely grinding out spyro or digimon or whatever game#and everyone on ur team is like is that.... why is satoru here#and ur like well u see he needs sunlight and to be walked like a needy dog so.#satoru x reader#satoru gojo x reader

where can i start reading disc world?
(tl;dr version: Either with Guards!Guards! if you want angry urban fantasy or Wyrd Sisters if you want angry rural fantasy, then follow the list for that sub-series)
Oh anon brace yourself, there are in fact several ways people have big opinions on.
These are mine:
1. My least favorite way is from the start in chronological order
the trouble here is the first few Discworld novels were written as these kinda silly goofy fantasy/dnd parodies that weren't even supposed to be a part of a bigger thing and they honestly aren't that good, especially not compared to later books. That's the way I started and I just dropped the series for a few years cause of it, so I really don't recommend it. The author himself said he wasn't that good of a writer back then which is understandable, cause it was like 40 books ago.
2. What I reccomend is in chronological order based on different sub-series
Discworld novels all happen in the same world, but they follow different groups of characters, so you have several sub-series.
I'll post a list here, but it's pretty confusing so I'll also explain two of my favs below.
City Novels (Watch novels and Industrial Revolution novels)
About a huge, terrible metropolis and the people that help it run, stumble and sometimes trip over the years.
People normally split this into watch novels which follow the city watch and are crime procedurals/adventure books with a ton of social commentary and industrial revolution novels which are about the city speedrunning from medieval to industrial era via several inventions and follow different main characters who are mostly all there against their will.
To me, the main character is the city itself and I super recommend reading these from start to finish in order to see how it changes with time.
starting book: Guards! Guards!
Witches Novels
About three witches doing witch things in a small mountain kingdom, unless they're going on a trip somewhere.
Incredible horrid old lady characters, a lot of exploration of fantasy tropes, some deep emotional beats, very warm human phlosophy and personal responsibility themes.
There's a semi-seperate "YA" series about a younger witch (Tiffany Aching novels), but don't let that fool you, because those hit just as hard as the "adult" ones.
starting book: Wyrd Sisters (technically Equal Rites, but that's also in the awkward early books period for me)
As for the others, the death novels are also very very good, Small Gods is an amazing standalone book and I'd literally just avoid the Rincewind novels until you're already hooked on the series, but they probably have their fans too.
3. Just pick up a random book you see in the library
A tried and tested method a lot of people swear by, most of the books are standalone enough for this to work, BUT my personal opinion is at least the city books should be read in order (especially Night Watch) and there's several less than stellar books you could pick up first by mistake this way (Color of Magic, Light Fantastic, Interesting Times and Faust being the worst imo).
#discworld#this is my personal opinion ofc but imagine your first books was interesting times#everytime someone asks me how to get into discworld i transform into that look how hard i can piss comic

The Best Red vs Blue Watch Order Guide Ever. Of All Time.
So. You want to watch Red vs Blue, huh? Maybe you read my long post about how it's so weirdly incredible yet impossible to recommend and now you want to give it a shot. Or maybe you have seen the show before, but it's been a long time and/or you didn't watch any of the mini-series or anything and want to give it another go. Either way, looking at a show with a 21 year history is kind of daunting, and you have no idea where to start.
Well luckily for you, I've done the work for you.
This watch guide will cover all 19 seasons of the main show, most of the mini-series, and some of the PSA's and other such bonus content. There will be links provided for where you can watch everything I talk about. This Google Drive (from reddit u/Exitity, unsure if they also have a tumblr) has all of the individual episode uploads, and most of the stuff I'm going to be talking about, although I'm trying to use YouTube links wherever I can. Any links will be colored in light blue for additional visibility.
Couple of quick things before we begin.
When possible, watch the individual episode uploads rather than the "complete" editions. The "Completes", while they may provide a more streamlined viewing experience by cutting out all of the bumpers and outros and such, accomplish this by cutting out a lot of jokes. RvB has a lot of jokes that happen during the fade to black at the end of an episode, and a lot of those get lost in the edits. There's also some things that just straight up get cut for seemingly no reason. Side note, the DvD/Blu-Ray versions seem perfectly fine, and honestly are even better to watch than the individual episodes if you have them. They're like a best of both worlds - adding some extra music and such (ESPECIALLY in the first 5 seasons) that really helps make a nice presentation of the show. If that's an option available to you, I recommend it. Otherwise, stick with the individual episodes.
At the end of each entry in the list, I may present a Side Quest section. This will include anything I feel you should watch that isn't necessarily canon, but helps add some extra life to the series. This may include some behind the scenes stuff or a selection of the PSA's and the non-canon mini-series. This stuff can be really great for building out the characters in a way that doesn't necessarily affect the greater story, and can especially be good for interactions between characters that maybe don't interact much in the main show. Anything I put in a Side Quest is strictly optional, but will add to your viewing experience. Obviously, there's a lot more bonus material than what I'm putting here. I'm just putting down some of the highlights. And if you end up liking the PSAs and such then just know: there's so much more for you to explore.
Early RvB is very much a product of it's time, and sometimes you'll get hit with a line that stops you dead in your tracks. Adult-oriented comedies can always be a minefield, and RVB's roots as a show made for Halo fans in 2003 definitely don't help. However, while this is the most common in the first five seasons, it never really stops being an issue. The purpose of this guide is simply for watch order, but if you have any specific trigger-related questions about any season of rvb please feel free to shoot me an ask or even a DM - i'm more than happy to help.
Okay, let's begin, breaking it down by arc.
The Blood Gulch Chronicles
You may hear people telling you to skip the first five seasons of the show and just pick up with Season 6. Those people are lying to you and do not have your best interests at heart. The first five seasons are pretty much strictly comedy, and from Season 6 onward the show starts to explore deeper themes and stories while still falling back on that comedic foundation. Skipping straight to the deeper stuff doesn't work very well IMO, because those five seasons are spent getting to know the characters we're going to be following for the rest of the show. The stuff that happens in Blood Gulch never stops being important - whether it's side characters showing back up again later on, or laying the foundation for a lot of the moments and story lines that make some of the later seasons so special.
Anyways, the watch order.
Season 1
Season 2
Season 3
Season 4
Out of Mind - Mini-series
Season 5
Blood Gulch Side Quests
Tattoo Point/Counterpoint - Season 1 PSA
A Message to the Science Community - Season 2 PSA
Real Life VS. The Internet - Season 2 PSA
All of the deleted scenes, honestly, but This One in particular because asphodel and I quote it all the time.
The Outtakes/Bloopers - I'm not gonna put the link for these and the deleted scenes for every arc, but just know that you should watch them after every season/arc. There's some great stuff in there.
The Season 5 Alternate Endings
Either watch it Now, or after you watch the finale, but I highly recommend the 2003 Season 1 DVD Commentary. It's just Burnie (Church/Lopez/Vic) and Geoff (Grif), and it's really nice.
If you've ever watched any behind the scenes stuff for RvB or even rooster teeth as a whole, you have almost certainly seen This Clip, which is a behind the scenes of the voice recording for Grif and Simmons' lines in episode 1.
The Recollection
Recovery One - Mini-series
Season 6 - Reconstruction
Relocated - Mini-series
Season 7 - Recreation
Season 8 - Revelation
Recollection Side Quests
First! - Season 6 PSA
Small Rewards - Season 6 PSA
Rock the Vote and Rock the Veto - PSAs made to encourage RvB viewers to register to vote. Which at the time you could do on your xbox 360. These are here mostly as a "wtf" historical piece.
Halo-Ween - Season 7 PSA
Valentine's Day - Season 7 PSA
Fire Safety: Where There's Smoke... - Season 7 PSA. genuinely one of the best.
Holiday Plans - Mini-series
The Reach PSA series - Three parts total, only part one is linked.
Project Freelancer Saga
Season 9
Technically there's two mini-series that take place during Season 9 - being M.I.A. and Where There's a Will, There's a Wall. I really love them, and would recommend watching them after S9, but if you really want to roll into S10 you won't miss much. Weirdly there's a place later on that would be a great spot to circle back to these, but I'll save that for later.
Season 10
Project Freelancer Side Quests
This is a great spot to circle back to older side quests you may have skipped, btw.
The Season 10 Table Read BTS - Season 10 was the first time they ever did a full cast table read for the show, and it's cool to see a few snippets from it and hear the crew talk about it.
Matt Hullum Talks to Himself - watch this after M.I.A. it's a live table read of part of the script, with a focus on a conversation between Sarge and Doc (who have the same voice actor)
This 10 Year Retrospective that was put out around Season 10. Watching it now, knowing that they were about halfway through the lifespan of the show / company gives it a whole new perspective.
RT Oz - PSA
Remember Not to Forget and Voting Fever - PSAs made to promote the launch of Halo 4. Voting Fever is one of the Best Ever (and listen to the full version of That's How Voting Works afterwards!)
This Interview between Burnie and Trocadero talking about the music the band has done for the show. This playlist also has a bunch of other behind the scenes and other such bonus stuff from the DVDs and Blu-Rays, it's great to keep around.
The Chorus Trilogy
Season 11
The Chorus Journal Entries - Only three have fully machinimated versions, the last one is just the log entry. Bridges the gap between 11 and 12
Season 12
Season 13
Chorus Trilogy Side Quests
#1 Movie in the Galaxy - PSA
Getting Away From it All - PSA
#1 Movie in the Galaxy: 2 - PSA
Uh. I think the RvB Holiday Special goes here
Matt Hullum (Sarge) reading an excerpt from 50 Shades of Gray at a book signing.
Season 14 - Anthology
I get it: not everyone loves the Anthology format. I truly do recommend watching all of it at least once - or if you haven't in a long time. My only Side Quests are to say that this is the perfect time to go back to M.I.A. and WTAWTAW if you skipped them after season 9, and that if you skipped the #1 Movie In the Galaxy PSAs during Chorus, watch them now before the third one, which is in this season.
The Shisno Trilogy (seasons 15, 16, and 17)
Season 15
Season 16 - The Shisno Paradox
Season 17 - Singularity
Shisno Side Quests (this is taken from our survey data because it's been so long since I've watched much of any shisno-related stuff)
Hard Truths - PSA
Diversity - PSA
Cultural Appreciation - PSA
Lopez's Technical Guide to Empathy - PSA
Unreal Estate - PSA
Caboose's Guide to Finding Your Home - sequel to the Guide to Making Friends from season 14
RvB: Zero + Family Shatters
okay so here's the deal. If by this point, you're really just interested in the characters you've been watching for the past 17 seasons and not so much the story or anything - you may not get much from watching Zero. I do think it's interesting to watch, if only because I think it's got a lot of missed potential. Zero is not served well by being a season of RvB, I think I would have liked it a lot more if it were stand-alone, though that doesn't fix all of my issues with it. If you wanna jump straight to the series finale, you absolutely can. It's a pretty short watch, though, and I've heard that Family Shatters was better. I'll watch that one at some point.
Zero
Family Shatters - spinoff
Restoration
This is it! The series finale.
I'm not doing this with an other season (though I do recommend going back and watching all the teasers and trailers at some point), but before you watch the finale you should watch The First Trailer For It. I think it sets up the season really well, and helps make some of the rushed set-up exposition in Restoration make a little bit more sense. honestly this should just be considered the first scene of the finale. Then watch the finale, and then you are done with all of the main show of Red VS Blue. Go forth, and be free.
Final Side Quest
I'm putting anything that came out in the nebulous time between Zero and the finale in here. I'll come back and edit this once we find out what on earth is going to be on the Blu-Ray.
Offensive Driving
First Person Tutor
Moving Out
The Video RT Made to Announce Master Chief and Blood Gulch Were Coming To Fortnite. This played at the game awards and my soul almost left my body
This is also where I'll put QvsA, which is the Grimmons mini-series, though I haven't actually watched it myself yet. They're all on youtube.
My all-time favorite RvB fan edit - doesn't actually have any clips post-anthology, but I think the end is a great time to watch it.
If none of this makes sense, or you just have any questions at all - I am More than happy to help answer your queries. I hope this helps :) Also if any of the links are broken please let me know.

actually i dont think ive posted my thoughts on ofmd s2 overall here yet have i?
ok here goes: i think it had incredibly high highs, and at some parts i genuinely enjoyed it more than i did the first season, episode 6 being peak imo. however, it had equally abysmal lows with some glaring writing-, tone- and pacing issues that all came to a head in the finale.
i once read someone say that, if you ever feel like a finale ruined the whole story, maybe you should take another look at the story. there were most likely cracks and problems all along, and the finale did nothing besides dashing the hope that these would perhaps be addressed later. very rarely do genuinely well written stories go completely off the rails in the finale and ruin the whole thing.
i think this is applicable here in some ways, SPECIFICALLY in regards to edward. good god edward was a MESS this season, and it's so sad because i loved the starting point! the kraken era was absolutely terrifying and iconic as FUCK but... they shouldn't have leaned so hard into the drama and trauma of it all. don't get me wrong, i loved that it did. it's one of my favorite parts of the season and i'm so glad we got it. but if they wanted this arc to work with the overarching plot as they wrote it, they would've had to lighten up the tone here CONSIDERABLY. had they played the kraken era for comedy then sure! edward's bad youtuber apology would've been funny. his fast redemption would've been less jarring. the lack of consequences less disturbing. but as it stands in the show, this arc is too dark to function with the later episodes.
i feel like they wanted to have their cake and eat it too here. they wanted the gritty drama of ed coming off the hinges entirely but also didn't want to deal with the aftermath of such a heavy arc in their silly pirate romcom. be that due to time constraints and budget cuts or because they were simply unwilling to, doesn't really matter in the end. the result is the same either way: a very tonally messy season with some accidentally troubling implications regarding abuse.
and mentioning troubling implications regarding abuse; izzy. my poor, poor izzy... his arc was absolutely glorious. i liked izzy the second he showed up in s1 and i was absolutely EATING this season up in that regard. and i think in this case, they genuinely did fuck it all up in the finale with that one stupid choice:
choosing to kill izzy was the DUMBEST thing they couldve done here.
ive talked about this over and over and over again. ive reblogged so many meta posts. and still i am left absolutely flabbergasted by how stupid of a decision this was. the fridging, playing at the fallen woman trope, killing the beating heart of the season and the character who delivers what is essentially a thesis statement, killing off the character whose arc is about coming to terms with his disability, having him die in edward's arms, comforting him and apologizing after an entire season of finding community and love outside of edward, the absolutely godawful pacing of it all, the extremely easy and obvious solution of just having IZZY become the new captain of the revenge to mirror s1 and hammer home how much he has developed since then in one go... i could go on. and i have. it was a stupid writing decision, completely fucked the tone and pacing of the finale and took away attention and time from things that really would've deserved a better wrap up (lucius and black pete deserved better)
now. the whole prince ricky & zheng plot line... yeah that shit sucked ass, sorry. they bit off more than they could chew here. i honestly think those are the arc words of this season:
â¨ď¸ bit off more than they could chew â¨ď¸
right off the bat: i think he was good as a concept. bringing in a foil for stede who just doesn't Get It as stede does could've made for very good comedy and drama (and to be fair there is some of that). but that shit got away from them extremely quickly. nothing about how he's implemented past his first episode works, and i think this is very specifically because he's mostly played as the comic relief in his debut episode. making this completely bumbling fool, who gets his nose hacked off on his first job, the main villain of your entire season is... definitely a choice. idk. he didn't work for me at all.
ok wow mentioning shit getting away from the writers. this definitely got away from me. this was supposed to be a short lil post. well. i guess tl;dr i loved this season but jesus christ there was a lot wrong with it. if you want to hear more thoughts. ask box is open. be my guest. i have more to say so even if you dont ask i might add more to this at some point but im tired and have work tmrw.
#i was going to do shit today and now look at me.#0:18 at night#laying in bed#writing this shit#i havent even eaten.#christtttt#moogsin'#ofmd#izzy hands#our flag means death#ofmd meta#ofmd critical#ofmd s2#ofmd spoilers#the izcourse#im not tagging any of the other characters cuz i shittalk all of them đ#listen i love edward hes my babygirl but this season did him DIRTY.

FOR MY HONEYBUNCH .á
⊠â in which you decided to poke some fun while you were out getting coffee with friends, and what's the most fun way to do so if not giving a silly and corny callsign as your name to the attractive barista working?
⊠â albedo x gn!reader. fluff/crack. wc: 612. a lot of random characters had a cameo in this for funsies. pacing is really fast imo but oh well. reblogs and feedback are well appreciated !!
âare you guys sure about this?â mona asks.
âlet them be, momo. if the barista reacts negatively to it, then itâs none of our fault," childe replies.
well, to formally start things, it was a normal afternoon when you and your circle of friends decided to go out for some coffee since you all had a vacant at the same time. however, nothing really goes calmly when either childe or kaeya is with you (worse if theyâre both together)âwhich brings you right now to you, who had just finished saying all of your orders to the cashier.
mona rolls her eyes at the nickname childe wouldnât stop calling her with. âstill, what is going on in all three of your heads? seriously, making them name themselves âhoneybunchâ?â she replies to him. âcalm down, mona. itâs not like every day thereâs a hot barista that you just randomly encounter.â kaeya joins in, chuckling at his words.
âi say kaeya has a point! like have you seen him, mona?â you finally say. when your group had finally settled for a table, mona steals a glance at the barista that youâve been eyeing ever since you stepped foot into the cafe. âwell⌠he isnât so bad, i guess. and he does look like your type.â she sighs.
âbut do you even know his name?â
âhis nametag reads albedo when i passed by him earlier when i came out of the restroom.â keqing approaches the table, taking the seat next to mona.
âdamn, even his name sounds good.â
âseriously?â
-
after a bit more chitchat and catching up with your friends, you had a feeling that your orders should be done by now. and that was when you heard it.
âone iced latte for⌠my honeybunch?â you heard it. you heard him say the silly name you assigned for yourself.
it just popped up randomly, honestly. you didnât want to be that concerning and say that your name would be âmy darlingâ or just simply darling on itâs own. so you had to settle for something more simple. simple yet silly.
and what else could it be if not honeybunch?
god, this mightâve been the most memorable moment youâve had in a cafe.
childe was already snickering when he heard it for the first time, and it seems like heâs not going to last any longer when he hears it for the second time either. people were slowly giving looks, not expecting to hear such a⌠unique name being called out to the barista. and mona was close to melting at her seat because of embarrassment over the shenanigan you had just pulled.
â(name), get up, you idiot. thatâs your order," kaeya says. heâs starting to feel bad for the poor guy since heâs still waiting for someone to claim the order in hand.
quickly getting up from your seat, you walked towards the counter, where the tray full of your friendsâ and your order were neatly placed. as you placed your hands on the tray to hold it, you felt albedoâs hand brush against yoursâas if it were a reflex to help you carry that tray towards your table. and is it crazy to say that his touch felt a bit electrifying despite his hands feeling soft?
-
the day moved on as usual, much to your dismay. albedo continued on his shift, and you as well as your friends stayed there until you were all ready to go. what you didnât notice at first was that there was extra tissue left. but what surprised you more was the message written on the tissue itself.
coffee, saturday, 9 a.m.?
- A :)
what a memorable afternoon indeed.

I was curious about how you think a reunion will go with the group if we ever get one. I don't think Rick and Daryl's reunion should go that smoothly. Especially given the state of their relationship when Rick disappeared. I also wonder about Maggie and Michonne. Some fans like to bring up Negan but I hope the Grimes family never sees him again.
Thanks for asking about this. This one is interesting because there are a lot of in-show and behind-the-scenes factors that could impact which route the reunions take. I wrote out a few of my opinions on it below and somehow I still surprise myself that my thoughts are never super brief lol. âŹď¸đ
If the reunion is just a single scene then I think the writers will want it to be positive vibes only and won't allow for them to address a lot of the unresolved history between the characters. I think Rick and Daryl's reunion will likely be smooth both because tptb would want to reinforce the fans' love for the brotherhood but also because Rick will feel like Daryl did something invaluable by watching over his kids while he and Michonne were away.
Knowing that his kids were able to be taken care of by a family member they love would mean a lot to Rick and probably make him feel more forgiving for how things played out between him and Daryl before he left. Especially if he gets the sense from Michonne that Daryl was one of the few people there for her after he was gone, that also would make Rick feel like they can put opposition aside because Daryl was there for his family.
I'm not saying the past should all be swept to the side tho or that Rick isn't the type that would want to address some things because especially watching him in season 9 before he left, he wasn't against calling things out. But I could see the franchise choosing to have a more kumbaya feel for the reunion if all they have is minimal screen time with the characters.
However, if at all they get a bit more screen time to reconnect then it would be nice and realistic to see some honest conversations about how they left off. Especially with Maggie.
Now the Maggie reunion with Rick and Michonne is one I could see being a bit more rocky. Because with Daryl, he and Rick got to at least hash some things out in that pit before Rick's departure and Daryl and Michonne were close and on good terms before she went to bring Rick home. (Honestly, Daryl and Michonne felt like closer confidantes than Rick and Daryl imo, since Rick and Daryl always read more like brothers than best friends to me, but that's a whole other conversation lol. Like pretty much all of season 8 and early season 9 Rick and Daryl's relationship was not in a good state. That's also why I'd be interested in seeing Michonne reunite with Daryl just as much as Rick since they always had a really solid loving friendship). But Maggie seemed to end on not the best of terms with both Rick and Michonne.
Like I could picture that when Rick was taken and having all that time alone to reflect, he probably felt like Maggie must really have strong issues with him if she decided she had to orchestrate a whole plan behind his back.
And then Maggie and Michonne also didn't seem to reconcile after Rick's departure to the point that when Maggie left she didn't let Michonne know. I'd be so curious what Michonne knows about that bridge day. If no one ever told her exactly how those events and schemes played out that day, I could see that being hurtful to now find out that part of why she had to go without her husband for years was because their friends were crafting plans behind their backs, especially when Rick was headed home himself and then got derailed when Daryl offered to take him home instead.
But it's also been a lot of years, and I think Rick and Michonne understand that growth can occur and so they won't hate or chastise people for what happened. I think they'd both be more focused on starting fresh and building a life with their kids. But some apologies from Daryl and Maggie would still be nice. Especially considering Maggie realized Rick and Michonne had it right that Negan being locked up was actually a fitting punishment and was killing him worse than actually killing him would have. Accountability is rare among certain characters, especially when the ones they've hurt are Rick and Michonne, but it still would feel necessary to include it if the story is given more than one scene for a reunion.
And as for Negan, I very much agree with you, anon. I personally have no desire for any of the Grimes family to be seen with Negan again. I've seen that some feel Rick has to see that Negan got 'redeemed,' but that wasn't even what Rick was aiming for. He kept Negan alive to honor Carl's vision but Negan wasn't thrown in a cell to one day get out and become a valued member of society. Rick intended for him to rot in that cell as a consequence of his many deplorable actions. So I could almost see it stinging a bit for Rick to see that Negan got to build a life all while Rick was taken from his life because his friends wanted to kill Negan and then didn't even end up going through with it.
I think Rick would be perfectly happy with him and his family never crossing paths with Negan again because Negan is important to some viewers but he is not on Rick's radar like that. Everyone Rick most needed to reunite with he already reunited with in TOWL. So if they do reunions with the rest of the group it could be interesting but also, like many have voiced before, team family sorta stopped feeling like a tight-knit family after a certain point. Not even in a condemning way because it happens, but they all started to do their own thing and build their own lives. I can think of a few characters that even left or pulled away while Rick was still around and was already content with not seeing him much or ever again.
And so I'm just glad that we already got to see Rick and Michonne reunite with each other and their kids since that's they're heart and these four are the ones who will be most involved in each other's everyday life now.

EPIC THE MUSICAL OPINIONS, VERY OPINIONS, VERY MINE.
IF YOU DON'T WANT SOME NEGATIVITY DON'T READ. THIS IS NOT PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE I SWEAR.
MOSTLY COMPILED AT NIGHT, SOME REVISION.
PLEASE DO NOT COME AT ME.
.....................
After this saga I'm left kind of perplexed about epic.
What is epic trying to say here? What's the musical's stance on ruthlessness?
Because it isn't very clear to me anymore.
Is it bad? Is it good and just? Is it a necessary evil? Is it worth becoming something monstrous just to achieve your goals?
The thing I'm trying to say is:
Is epic a tragedy or a triumph?
Until the vengeance saga I thought it was the former, but now I'm not so sure.
Throughout the story Odysseus takes desicions that either side with what I'll call the 'open arm mentality' or the 'ruthless' mentality.
He gets punished for both a number of times.
He kills Astianax so he doesn't have to fear his future vengeance.
He spares Polyphemus and that leads to 558 men dying.
He appeals to Circe's humanity and that leads her to freeing his men and helping him get to the underworld.
He sacrificed 6 men to Scylla and that leads to 'mutiny' and 'thunder bringer' where the rest of his crew dies and he ends up in calypso's island where she imprisoned him for 7 years.
First act of ruthlessness= good outcome
First act of open arms= bad outcome
Second act of open arms= good outcome
Second act of ruthlessness= bad outcome
(I forgot to add the sirens, that encounter is kinda strange tho. Ody kills all of them but I wouldn't call that ruthlessness. Ruthlessness is doing whatever needs doing to get what you want. He needed to know how to get home, and killing the sirens after doesn't matter in that context. I guess it's good for future sailors? I'll count this as an altruistic positive I guess)
This breakdown isn't perfect, lots of other things happen and some things Ody does can't really be neatly categorized by this simple metric imo, but I'll continue anyway as it feels to me the story breaks down his actions in a sort of similar dichotomy.
All in all the 'good to bad' ratio seems pretty balanced, right? It's not always ruthlessness that wins the day, and 'open arms' solutions don't always work out.
So why does it feel like we're supposed to root for ruthless Odysseus? Why does it feel like the story wants us to believe that being the monster is a good if 'somewhat sad' outcome?
Why am I saying this? Well, it's 600 strikes.
Actually just- all the vengeance saga.
Why is what Ody does here supposed to be cool and awesome? Because, like, that is absolutely the angle here.
Complete with a, honestly absurd, anime power up and fighting-god-one-on-one moment.
Why does the story break down it's logic, breaks suspension of disbelief (at least for me), to get Odysseus into a position were he can torture Poseidon into letting him go?
Wich?? Btw should not work??
Why is this how he wins?
Why are the ghosts of his friends and family no longer spectres of regrets for but terrifying promises of death?
What does this say? Was Odysseus wrong about their sacrifice? Was regret ever only a noose around his neck? I'm looking too deeply into this one lol.
In 'get in the water' we even get the obligatory appeal to Poseidon's mercy just to hammer down once again that 'open arms' doesn't work, even tho it's Athena's appeal to her father's mercy that set Odysseus free in the first place.
The saga ends with Poseidon asking Odysseus how he'll sleep at night after all of this and Ody, in admittedly the coldest line ever written on paper, says:
"Next to my wife"
...
This is cool.
Extremely cool even.
But that's kind of the problem I have with it.
The song ends in a badass way. This is meant to be the final zing to seal Odysseus' cool ass victory.
And in all of this, not once, does the story seem to recognize that...well...
Poseidon won.
Hell not even Poseidon recognized it!
I'm not even saying "OoOh if it was realistic Poseidon would have have won!" (Tho yeah, ask me about that, lol)
In the great ideological battle that's at the center of Epic: the musical, Poseidon was the ultimate victor.
Ruthless is what wins at the end, it's what gets Odysseus home. Odysseus might be a monster but he's a victorious one.
I feel people and the musical both don't really acknowledge that.
That even if Poseidon lost the battle he ultimately won the war.
Were is the irony? Where's the bitterness and sorrow? We're Poseidon's bloodied, mocking smirk revelling in his victory?
Is Epic a tragedy or a power fantasy?
#epic the musical#epic the vengeance saga#negativity tw#i guess#Yes i think Poseidon should have had the last laugh#i have many thoughts#i dunno maan#yell#anyway the music slapped hard as hell as was expected#Steven Rodriguez i love you#critical

so Iâve been sorta contemplating why I find acotar to be so disappointing (outside of all the complaints Iâve already made) and I think that interview post I reblogged earlier actually has the big reason in that, I honestly and genuinely think that sarah j maas doesnât actually know what older fantasy/romance readers want or like
like thereâs a reason that these genres have such formulaic tropes and cliches, romance especially, and thatâs cause people like them!!! people reading these genres who have been for years and years already arenât coming into a ya fantasy/romance expecting you to flip the entire genre on its head, they already know what they like and they know how this story is supposed to go. selling readers one thing just to pull the rug out from under them to say âactually this story was about this other thing all along donât you feel foolishâ is actually insulting and bad for the industry as a whole
if you donât want to write fantasy and all the work that comes with it, donât write fantasy- keep the story as just a romance. and the inverse is true too! if you donât want to put the work into a believable compelling romantic arc, you donât have to write a romance
but it really feels like acotar doesnât know what it wants to be, itâs a high fantasy with no world and itâs a romance with a flat and unbelievable love story so idk what sjm was really even trying to say over the course of 4.5 books. not only does her writing fail on a technical level, ie none of her characters aside from maybe nesta having actual character arcs, it fails in a meta way too because as someone who loves fantasy and romance why should i care??? what am i actually doing here? digging for scraps the author never meant to be found? picking at a decaying corpse like a vulture desperate for something substantive? all that I enjoy about acotar comes from my own headcanons and the fandomâs critical analysis discussions inferring something interesting about the barebones world sjm threw onto the page
in romance, good male love interests before the pervasiveness of acotar werenât âalpha holesâ or whatever the new term is now, they were written to be everything the female protagonist, and thereby the reader, wanted but denied herself- even objectively bad men can be good love interests, take Edward Cullen or Christian Gray for example because itâs about the wish fulfillment in finding your perfect partner
sjm is writing for booktok, girls under 25 just getting into reading because itâs trendy now and the more popular books donât actually have a real story to tell, which imo is okay!!! just donât pretend to have a deep and impactful theme/messaging if you wanna write feel-good popcorn fiction, donât take yourself so seriously if youâre not gonna write seriously.
this feels like Iâm rambling now but ig my real point is that old school romance/fantasy readers choose the genres for a reason, either the complex other worlds or intense meaningful love stories they provide their audiences and simâs acotar is devoid of both those pivotal things that mesh so well together is hard to imagine one without the other now. and thatâs sad.
#idk idk#rambling about my feelings on romantasy when I should be working#I have a lot of feeling on the state of romance rn thanks to booktok and bookstagram#but thatâs a different post on a different day#anti sjm#anti booktok#just in case#acotar critical#not really an anti post today because unfortunately I do see the potential the series had and it gave me brainworms#gold talks.tag

(this is spacekrakens lmao) dude idk anything about like 1950s Japanese cinema, do you have any recommendations? looking for stuff to toss on the watchlist now that I'm a bit burned out on horror (unless you have some horror recs)
Hey! If youâre curious about Japanese cinema (particularly 1950s), thereâs a lot of avenues to explore! Musicals, crime, horror, historicalâit all depends on what mood youâre in. (Putting this under a read more because I'm DEFINITELY going to be long posting about this!!!) Hope this is useful to you lol.
(Also noting if anybody wants to add to this list with their own recommendations feel free!!)
With old school Japanese cinema, Iâll always recommend Akira Kurosawa (obviously). Heâs made some of the best Japanese movies (and arguably, the best movies of all time imo) and I feel like his work is a good gateway. Itâs readily available on physical media/streaming too.
Specifically â50s stuff; Hidden Fortress (1958) is a good adventure flick whose structure was swiped for Star Wars, Throne of Blood (1957) is Japanese Macbeth if you like Shakespeare, and if you donât mind a longer movie Seven Samurai (1954) includes Toshiro Mifune acting like this;
Gotta admit, thoughâmy personal favorites from Kurosawa donât come from the 1950s; Drunken Angel (1948) and Yojimbo (1961). One has a pathetic gangster as the main lead, the other is just a solid, breezy proto-action film (also has my beloved Unosuke but that's besides the point)
Some personal favorites of mine from the 1950s:
Life of a Horse Trader (1951) is a bittersweet story about a man trying to be a good single father to his son in the backdrop of Hokkaido. He tends not to be great at it. Stars Toshiro Mifune, the most famous face of Japanese cinema and for good reason!
Conflagration/Enjo (1958) is a single Buddhist acolyteâs fall into quiet insanity. Raizo Ichikawa is another amazing actor who I love! Also includes Tatsuya Nakadai who is the GOAT (in my heart).
Godzilla (1954) is AMAZING! If you liked Gozilla Minus One, it took a lot of familiar cues from this movie. It also technically counts as horror, depending on your definition.
Japanese horror from the 1950s:
Ugetsu (1951) (Not one Iâve seen personally, but itâs on Criterion)
The Beast Shall Die (1958) (American Psycho, but in Showa Japan. Tatsuya Nakadai is terrifying in this and absolutely despicableâstylish movie tho!)
Ghost of Yotsuya (1959) (Old-school Japanese ghost story. Honestly, there are so many different versions of this story on film that you can pick which version to watch and go from thereâIâm partial to the 1965 version myself, because of the rubber rats and Tatsuya Nakadai playing a crazy person).
The Lady Vampire (1959) is the OG western-style vampire movie from Japan. Plays around with the mythos a lot, but hey our Dracula looks like this;
Misc movies that I think are neat or good gateway movies:
The Samurai Trilogy by Hiroshi Inagaki, which stars Toshiro Mifune as Miyamoto Musashi. Found that people otherwise uninterested in Japanese cinema really enjoyed this!
You Can Succeed, Too (1964) is one of my favorites from the â60s, also directed by EizĹ Sugawa. A fun satire on the corporate world that's super colorful with catchy songs.
The Sword of Doom (1966) is also another favorite of mine, starring my beloved Tatsuya Nakadai as another bastard man (seriously though Ryunosuke is FASCINATING to me--). Fun gore effects and action scenes!
Kwaidan (1964) is an anthology of Japanese folk tales, labeled a horror film but in that kinda sorta old-school way. Beautifully shot by my favorite Japanese director Masaki Kobayashi (who, if you like this you should seriously check out his other work!)
#thanks for the ask!#akira kurosawa#tatsuya nakadai#toshiro mifune#raizo ichikawa#japan#film#godzilla#hidden fortress#seven samurai#drunken angel#yojimbo#enjo#sword of doom#kwaidan#you can succeed too#samurai trilogy#the lady vampire#ghost of yotsuya#ugetsu#life of a horse trader#throne of blood#ask

3D by JK (feat. JH) - my take.
Ok, unpopular opinion maybe, and I might get my ass beaten for this (not in a good way đ¤Ł)
Feel free to disagree RESPECTFULLY.
Disclaimer: If anyone comes at me with that cancel bullshit I will block you, because we all get to have an opinion.
If my post enrages you, scroll past until you can be civil, then come back and talk. Or block me. I dont mind.
And don't tell me that because I don't love this song I have to hand in my ARMY card... I'm not going to.
đđđ
I'll start by saying I love JK so, so much. Adore him. Will always support him.
But for me, 3D is a misstep.
My feeling is Hybe should have reconsidered releasing it as it is.
JK's lyrics are fun and sexy. The innuendo is on point. The melody is great and the chorus has excellent sing-along value. Even though I'm not a huge pop music fan, I like the vibe.
The MV dancers are awesome, and I got a kick out of the fire hydrant metaphor.
And in that jacket with nothing under it, JK looks hot enough to melt asphalt.
However....
Including Jack Harlow's rap IMO is a mistake. It sucks, frankly. Not in a good way.
It not only misses the mark on the tone of the rest of the song but his lyrics are really just offensive. Misogynistic. And racial refrences are just... not cricket. It's 2023 not 1995, regardless of what his hairstyle tells you.
His lyrics sound like an incel bragging about their sex life when all they've ever done is watch porn. From his words, I doubt he knows how to please any person but himself.
His message is gross, but its still just... generic. Like he went to urban dictionary for spicy language and then googled how to treat women like shit. There's nothing original about what he's saying. He's not even being gross in an intersting way. It's gross AND boring.
(Jack, if you're reading this, sorry my guy you gotta do better.)
I've been army since 2018 and this is the first BTS song I have tried to find merit in and given up.
I honestly tried to be into it and i just... can't. It doesn't sit well with me.
This is a new experience for me because even when BTS release something i don't immediately love, i still stream and watch and let it sink in, or I work on figuring out what I am missing and why it's ACTUALLY good even if i can't grasp it.
This... it's just... not good, in my opinion.
I have to clarify here...
It isn't about explicit content, i am totally down for that. If anyone read my post on Seven, they will know my response to that song. In a nutshell, I believe all adults who want to, should happily and shamelessly be doing ALL the horizontal tango. Every type, every day, in every way. With anyone and everyone they fancy as long as all parties are informed and consenting adults who are equally enjoying the experience.
Yes. I am all about getting down.
That doesn't mean treating your partners like a body count or using and abusing them with no consideration. That's not cool.
**PSA: please be safe and use protection. Get tested regularly if you have multiple partners. Don't do anything you don't feel good about and dont stay with partners who harm or manipulate you đ**
Now, back to the smut.
Some criticisms i saw of Seven were about how dirty it was. A few people were upset because JK said fuck, and because he sang about how and when he liked to fuck. But more criticism was levelled at Letto. Why?
It seemed like it was because she's a woman, singing about sex.
Letto totally owns her sexuality and she knows what she wants. I snorted with delight at how deliciously filthy her lyrics were. Some very clever wordplay made her verse so visceral, and pretty shocking to the pearl-clutchers, without her ever saying anything directly. I really enjoyed it.
She was telling us straight up how good she is in bed. Good for her. She totally rocks. And she wasn't disrespecting anyone. She didn't need to do that to make herself cool AF.
The difference between Letto's rap and jack harlow's is that jack sounds like he's just looking at the women he's singing about as a hole to stick his dick in. Women have fought for long enough for equality and respect. They don't need this bullshit. You can sing about getting down, and you can be absolutely filthy and nasty and wild, and you can do it without degrading your partners.
I did read a theory about this song being social commentary on toxic masculinity. You can find it here and you can read it below:
Its not bad as a theory. At least it wouldn't be if Namjoon or Yoongi or Hobi - or Jungkook himself - had written the song. If that were the situation we'd see some inkling of self awareness in the rap, and maybe a hint of character development. But there's none.
Sorry ARMY, this is not the class of lyricism we have come to expect.
If jack is trying to make a social statement^*, or play a character, he is not succeeding in showing any growth or humanity at all. He's really just that stereotype.
In the last few lines, after he offers to fly his victim from Korea to Kentucky, he says "and you ainât gotta guarantee me nothing I just wanna see if I get lucky."
How considerate...
All I see is zero care factor about the actual person he's trying to get with. Which is quite different from JK's lyrics, which show awareness that he's interacting with a conscious, living human being, not a piece of furniture.
jack follows with "I just wanna meet you in the physical and see if you would touch me"
Ugh. Not with a ten foot pole, douchebag.
And how about, in his first verse "All my ABGs get cute for me"
Good god, really? Is he seriously saying this?
So its a no for me.
The ONLY saving grace is that there's an alternative version which is pretty fun. It's almost as if Hybe knew we would hate the version with jack harlow. Wow, such insight!
Now, i know that's not the only reason they made an alternative. They needed a clean version for US radio play (let's be real, what possible other purpose can this song serve? *°)
But they could have censored jack's... actually they couldn't. The rap verses can't be salvaged. They genuinely have no merit, the only hope for the song is totally removing them.
What does that tell you?
ARMY will no doubt still chart the main track but personally, I would feel morally compromised if i supported that version. So I'll stick to the alternative and hope for better things to come.
------------
^* Stylecaster doesnt think so either. I visited their website to check thr lyrics. They said, of D3, "Meanwhile, Jack Harlow brings the cool with his two verses as he raps about all the women he could pull"
Uh, really? I hope that's intended to be ironic.
*° The MV had only 4.5million views after 12 hours. And we know what brilliant strategists Hybe employs. I am travelling in Korea right now. There was no promo visible here. And it was no accident that it was released at lunchtime on Chuseok - the biggest famiily holiday of the year - when relatively few people in Korea would be available to engage with it. THEY KNEW IT WAS A STINKER.

hi!! okay so i really loved that one fanfic you wrote (3:16) way back when, it's honestly one of my favorite fanfics ever but I have a question for you!! I've honestly adored your writing style and techniques and I was wondering: what is your writing process? Not just plot wise (although yes that!) but also prose-wise? because honestly, the first thing that drew me into your fic was how FUCKING good your prose was and I was just in absolute awe reading what you had written, and it sort of started me on a journey to improve my own prose and make it sound nice.
so uh yeah!! what is your writing process and if you have any advice for how you write so beautifully (Not just prose wise!! plot and character wise too haha) or just like. writing advice in general, i am ALL ears <3
oh this is so incredibly sweet, thank you!!!
i've tried to marshal some thoughts...tbh i am always envious of effective writing that is UNLIKE mine, so there are lots of ways to go about this. (and also i am just Some Guy.)
i'll focus on prose things i think about during writing/revision b/c otherwise we will be here all night...but imo some of this overlaps with effective pacing, character, etc.
Prose is character â some writing is âvoicierâ than other writing is, living closer in a characterâs POV. Â but in most cases, if you are in any way in a characterâs head, your prose is part of their characterization. dick grayson will use different words and notice different details than damian will. being intentional about a characterâs voice has the nice iterative effect of strengthening their characterization, which then makes your prose more confident as you understand their voice, and on and on it goes
Allow âworkmanlikeâ phrases â sometimes clichĂŠ exists for a reason; you donât actually need every sentence to be a poem. in fact, you NEED simple writing to string together your powerhouse lines without turning it all into purple prose/losing the reader/ruining the pacing.
Examine âworkmanlikeâ phrases â that being said, another failure mode is RELYING on these phrases instead of digging for something more interesting now and then. i might write the phrase âa chill went down her spineâ â ok this is fine, but Iâve read this sentence 15,000 times in my life and seeing it in my own document should be a trigger to slow down and decide if thereâs a more specific or vivid description that conveys character or mood or theme better. or is just prettier lmao. i think to myself: how does it feel to be scared? what is a physical reaction thatâs REAL that i have experienced, and am not just taking from a list in my head called âDescriptions Of Being Scared That Writers Useâ?
The fucking thesaurus lmao â do not find/replace willy-nilly obviously BUT if the only word you can think of is Not Exactly The Right Word Dammit then the fucking thesaurus is a perfectly valid brainstorming tool to get closer to what you are trying to say. even if u donât find the right word, itâs often a jumping-off point to a better way to approach the sentence
Note your âisâes â ok this is the annoying one. imo this really strengthened my writing but i hated it so so much. when revising, find any instance of âis/was/seems.â (ex: âHe seems impatient, and thereâs a pile of paperwork sitting in front of him.â) Thereâs nothing WRONG with that sentence, but itâs worth checking to see if itâs an opportunity for a more active one that gives more character detail (âHe taps impatiently on a pile of paperwork.â there. done.)
Condense â ok look at that example again. i phrased things more actively but i ALSO condensed two concepts (He seems impatient + there is paperwork) into a sharper sentence that ALSO tells us a bit about how this character acts when stressed. imo you can accidentally find really interesting prose this way, in addition to improving pacing.
Vary sentence structure â that being said, sometimes the way to go is a beautiful run-on, so long as that sentence has intention packed into it! if you are writing long lovely flowing sentences, itâs going to hit hard if you drop the emotional reveal in a short, choppy, standalone one. or if your sentences shorten as the mood of the scene changes, or or or.
Use detail to let a scene breathe â personally, i never want to write the phrase âthere was a pregnant pauseâ or âthere was a brief silenceâ if i can help it. this is personal preference, but i think the principle stands: you can instead control your readerâs sense of timing, create an implied pause, by giving detail in the right place. the reverse is why it bothers me when a conversation is interspersed with paragraphs of introspection lmao: in my head iâm wondering why pov is taking so long to respond
Use repetition â oh my god this is my cheat code. if you are really proud of a beautiful, distinctive phrase you wrote? use it again!!! make it a callback at an important moment!!! make it thematic!! do it on purpose. trust me itâs cool
Get out of their head â ok hereâs an experiment. take a concept (âDick is scaredâ) and tell yourself that you have to express this, but you CANâT describe anything about Dick himself in order to do it. you can use the way the crumbling buildings of gotham loom above him, or the weather, or the way people react to himâbut you cannot say a word about his actions or thoughts or feelings. chances are, youâve now created some interesting prose getting at the concept abstractly. cool! use that, and also go and add the direct feelings back in if it makes sense to do so
"Unconscious" writing - uhh ok this one is weird, but sometimes for a VERY early draftâlike, when I am staring down the blank pageâI will stopâŚtrying to write a story? I will instead begin to write, uhâŚpoetry about what is happening in the story? Just, impressions, details, stream-of-consciousnessâŚthis will all have to be cleaned up and made linear later. but for now, go nuts. and usually it gives me a) some workable, pretty prose and b) an entry point into what i am trying to say so i can go back and write the âreal versionâ
Dissect!! Good!!! Writing!!! - i'm sorry, this one is so boring. but if there's a writer who really WORKS for you, read very slowly and break down what's so effective about it on a prose level. i do this with ursula le guin. also, do this with poetry!!! which poems slam you to the ground and take your lunch money? how?
i know you also asked abt plot and character but i've already written so much lmao plz forgive me. i am not a big craft book person but i did enjoy refuse to be done and a swim in a pond in the rain. i also try to collect tips i find in this tag!

am I the only one who thinks that Yui/MC is just a stand in for the player? like, her personality is tame and vanilla, enough so that anyone willing could fit into her position quite easily. Not forgetting to mention you can change the MC's name in the games, and she has no voice in the games. And because that there is no canon ship in otome games in general, because who the MC ends up with depends on who the player wants her/themselves to be with (in Ayato's case, it's only that he's like the standard, the poster boy). So, ever since it came out, I've been in the fandom: I've played all the games, read the manga, interviews, and everything, and especially the drama CDs (which make you feel as if they're talking to *you*), and I came to this conclusion. So you learn particular things of the MC/Yui, for example, her preferences that shape her as an independent character, e.g., having her own quotes, her merch, but still, she just gives me that impression. *This is why I also find Yui-bashing to be ridiculous; after all, her character is basically built to be subdued, so the players can fit in her shoes*â is what I think. Thank you for listening. I really do want your (non biased) thoughts, for this has been bothering me for quite a while, :)
// I honestly believe all heroines are made to be a stand in for the player, because thatâs how otome games work.
Yui is a 2012 heroine, therefore it makes sense why she doesnât have as much uniqueness or personality as newer ones. Nevertheless, I would like to point out that a bunch of Japanese players DONâT actually relate to her that much. They mostly like her because sheâs cute and dumb, and they find that entertaining.
On the other hand, there are a lot of avid otoge players who find her too âstupid and meanâ for a heroine. I agree with the stupid part, but despite her moments of random bitchiness, I donât find her as bad as they say. Yet, maybe they played more otome games than me, so their expectations are higher.
I wouldnât really call her tame or vanilla though. Sheâs also one of the thirstiest heroines imo, given that she keeps thinking about wanting more sex even after doing it a few hours ago and so on. Thereâs also an ending in which she cheats for pleasure and then starts being happy when getting railed as a punishment, therefore she might seem innocent, but there are a lot of kinky things going on inside her head. :â)
Other than that, I agree that she appears as a quite plain character, but it canât be helped, since the LIâs are the ones made to stand out more through their writing in otome games. To me sheâs fun, but she might come off as not flashed out to others, which is to be expected from a heroine.
I also agree with you when it comes to the CD dramas and interviews talking about the player, instead of Yui as a whole, because those are supposed to be the most âyumeâ materials. Rejet confirmed Ayato as the mainstay of the story in some books and magazines, which means that in the official universe, he ends up with Yui, but this doesnât mean people canât ship themselves with him or canât replace Yui with themselves. My friend has an OC and she used to post screenshots of some routes, yet a lot of people kept asking her stuff such as: âDo you hate Yui?â or âWhy do you never talk about Yui?â only because the sprite was turned off and the name was changed.
People should let others go through their own otoge experience. After all, otome games were produced like that for a reason. If you want to play as the heroine, thatâs good and valid! If you want to play as yourself or your OC, thatâs just as good and valid!

Since you havenât been here in a while, what are your thoughts on taekookâs dynamics now? I read your post from 2021 where you mentioned that you donât think taekook have a deep emotional connection and I recently thought about it because I saw another Jikook blogger mention that too and explained in detail why they thought so and I agreed with them even though I hadnât really thought about it that way before so I would love to know how you perceive taekookâs dynamic in general now.
My post from 2021 for anyone who wants a refresher or hasn't seen it:
Anon, Idk if you've seen this post as well, but I address Taekook getting closer again in more recent years here too
This post covers where I talk about how close taekook was in the early years and why they are such a huge ship imo
I PROMISE I'm not trying to just not answer this. My opinions just honestly haven't really changed that much? My posts were from after ITS and after taekook started making strides in their relationship and being closer and better friends again. I love seeing it. I still don't see that emotional connection that is as deep as it is as they individually have with other members or outside the group friends too. I think taekook aren't the friends that are going to be having emotional/deep/soul searching conversations with each other. I don't think they are going to seek each other out in times of high emotion, positive or negative or when in distress. I think they are best buddies who act up together and have a great time. They are here for a good time not a long time kinda friends đđ and we all need those friends in our lives too and they can be just as important to us.
I think we see that in the reunion hugs from Jin's military release too. That vmin reunion?? That's a friendship with a deep emotional connection
But also see the difference?
Also, check out that vhope reunion hug too? I'm not saying taekook aren't important to each other. They are so clearly important and they clearly love each other to bits and they have SO MUCH FUN. But my points in all my previous posts still stand. In terms of who they might pick to go on a wild crazy adventure or do something silly? Probably each other are great contenders. As for picking who in all the members they are closest to? Probably not each other. Even though all of BTS are their family. No one should ever be asking them to choose. Everyone's got different types of relationships within a family and friendship unit with each other. And the way those types of relationships intersect are always so beautiful.
I'd be interested to know which other blog post you mentioned too. Hope this answered your question with some satisfaction!
#taekook dynamics#they love each other so much#they are such a fun and chaotic duo#their interactions always bring me joy

Did I just read your Super Sons primer from 2020 at 3 am on a Monday morning because I'm having a real normal one? Maybe?! I'm wondering how you feel about how they and their relationship has developed since then. IMO it's... Pretty bleak. đŠ
I HAVE A LOT OF FEELINGS ABOUT IT. (Also here's the primer for anyone who missed it.)
So I will say that 95% of everything Jon has been in since he got aged up has been hot garbage, but I do think the exception is when Damian is around. But let's take it from the top!
First of all, I don't necessarily think they should de-age him again. Generally speaking I think it's better storytelling to focus on fixing things moving forward, rather than undoing things moving back. Sure, if DC came up with some big cosmic event that reset Jon to 11, I certainly wouldn't complain, but I'd rather see them, uh...do literally anything with Teen Jon that doesn't suck.
But yeah, aging Jon up to begin with still makes me livid because:
I want my baby to have had a childhood.
It's fully character assassination for Lois and Clark. They would NEVER let their 11-year-old go to outer space with a supervillain. Lois would NEVER just abandon him out there, and Clark would NEVER respond with "Well, I'm sure he's fine, wanna have marathon sex?" I honestly have no idea what Bendis or his editor were thinking.
They have not done a single interesting with him since!!!
Putting this behind a cut because it got LONG. Also spoilers for Beast World in there.
I've said this before, but I have to assume that Bendis wanted to age Jon up because he wanted to write a Legion book. But he also in his wisdom decided to bring Kon back into continuity at exactly the same time, which means we have two nearly identical Superboys that DC didn't and still doesn't know what to do with. Kon clearly couldn't have joined the LOSH because he already had a team, but you know what Super teen was available, and not 11, and who has a history with the Legion that goes back almost as long as Clark's? KARA. But I will save that rant for another day.
And honestly, Kara dodged a bullet, because that Legion book was unreadable. Bendis at his most Bendis-y wall of text interrupt-y conversations and no plot. If I give Tom Taylor any credit it's that the second he got his hands on Jon, he torpedoed Jon/Imra as a ship. GOOD.
And when the LOSH book finally went out with a whimper (that JLA/LOSH miniseries! what was that!!!), we entered the Taylor Era. Taylor's quirks are less stylistic and more narrative than Bendis's. You can spot Bendisian dialogue at twenty paces, but a Taylor comic tips its hand when it sets up a really interesting premise or a really high stakes threat and then immediately undercuts it with a little wet fart noise of nothing. To wit:
Jon's starting college! This will be an interesting challenge for him to readjust to normal life after six years in a torture-volcano and an indeterminate amount of time in the future, and also considering he never graduated from sixth grade. I wonder what will - oh no he dropped out after three pages. (He has done NOTHING in his civilian identity since, btw. I guess he's too busy hovering just behind Dick at all times to work on his GED or whatever.)
Jon is going to confront Ultraman! Finally the comics will have to engage with all the trauma he must have - oh no Ultraman's dead.
Jon is trapped in the Injustice Universe! This is a really dangerous universe that might make him question everything he knows about - oh he just lectured everyone and flounced off home.
Beast World is a perfect example. Taylor seems to think that having a hero effortlessly solve a problem makes them look badass, but it's actually the effort that makes them look badass. So like, we spent five months keeping the Kryptonians and other A-class heroes away from the spores because the spores are attracted to power and if a Super got spore'd everyone would be in big trouble...but then in the last issue, they just have Jon fly up to everyone with a spore in them, wait for the spore to jump at him, and catch it? That doesn't make the Titans look smart or Jon look tough. It makes all of them look like idiots because it it was that easy, why didn't they do that in the first place?
On top of that, Taylor doesn't ever really earn relationships. Jon and Jay is the obvious one. Jay has no personality. There's no chemistry between the two characters. Jon might as well be dating a cardboard cutout labeled "Proof of Queerness." (Or "Bernard." Ahem.) But we're supposed to be like, yes, give Tom Taylor a GLAAD award for using queer characters as props, when he's going to turn around and kiss Chuck Dixon's ass on social for being homophobic about Jon? UGH.
Honestly worse for me though is the Jon and Dick relationship. Because Taylor is writing both characters, we're supposed to believe that there's this close mentor-mentee bond there? I don't think they EVER interacted before the Taylor era. (And don't even look at me with that retconned-in scene of Dick finding lost baby Jon. You're telling me that Superman, with his X-ray and telescopic vision, needs to call Bruce and Dick for help finding his own son? Fuck off.)
Anyway it all combines to make basically every Jon appearance for the past three years profoundly unsatisfying. Even the stuff that isn't by Taylor never goes anywhere. Remember when he was jealous of the Super Twins for two panels? And then everyone forgot about it forever? SIGH.
HOWEVER.
However.
If there is one thing that Bendis and Taylor and every other writer got right, it's that Jon is crazy bonkers in love with Damian always and forever. Jon has been written like shit since 2019, but he has also not wavered in his devotion for even one single solitary second.
THE EVIDENCE:
This is the first thing Jon does when he gets back to Earth:
He then tells Damian he's contemplating not joining the Legion because he'll have to leave Damian behind. Damian tells him to go and then come get him if it's cool.
Turns out the Legion is cool. Jon comes and gets Damian. The Legion isn't happy about it and Jon threatens to leave if Damian can't stay, while gazing adoringly at Damian's unconscious body cradled in his arms:
Eventually LOSH is canceled and Jon comes home and starts following Damian around by listening for his heartbeat. LIKE PALS DO!
Then Damian gives him a pep talk!
Then there's this ABSOLUTE CUDDLE:
The way Damian nuzzles into Jon's shoulder! Can you even stand it!
And then there's this:
The climax of Son of Kal-El, btw, is one of the several times Jon is saved by Damian and confides in Damian and turns to Damian for comfort or advice...and Jay is just sort of standing there off to the side. I am fully aware I have ship goggles on but the degree of emotional investment Jon has in these relationships is not the same.
Then they had a special issue teamup:
Then we got Dark Crisis, and I actually love this interaction between them, because they are very different people with very different upbringings and this feels extremely in character to me for how they would both handle the loss of their fathers:
But even when they disagree, they still instantly support each other. Jon comes back with information? Damian makes a plan:
Also, we got the 2022 Pride issue where Jon, Jay, and Damian go to Pride together. I know that story is...contentious...but leave me here with Damian sulking while Jon and Jay kiss, okay?
Then we get Adventures of Superman, which is objectively awful, but Jon does spend his whole time in the Injustice universe thinking about Damian like the seagulls in Finding Nemo saying "Mine? Mine? Mine?"
This whole arc is truly hilarious. Jon finds out that Damian accidentally killed Dick and his response is to a) go find Batman and yell at him for not supporting Damian enough for accidentally killing Dick, and then b) go find Damian to be like "Wow, that must have been really hard for you (accidentally killing Dick)." There's being ride or die for your BFF, and then there's whatever the fuck Jon has going on.
(Meanwhile there's an incredibly uncomfortable scene with him and Injustice Jay where Jay "tests" him by trying to get Jon to cheat on regular Jay. So. That happens.)
And then just this past month we got Nightwing #110, where we learn that Jon is still listening to Damian's heart:
He completely freaks out watching Damian in danger, and immediately intervenes when it looks like Damian is about to kill someone because he knows what matters the most to Damian. Also, this happens:
YOU WIN THIS ONE, TAYLOR.
AND THEN THEY BICKER I LOVE IT WHEN THEY BICKER:
AND THEN DAMIAN LETS HIMSELF BE VULNERABLE BY ASKING JON IF HE HURT ANYONE WHILE HE WAS A KITTY, AND JON GIVES YET ANOTHER SPEECH ABOUT HOW DAMIAN HAS NEVER DONE ANYTHING WRONG EVER, IN HIS LIFE, AND DAMIAN STAGGERS OFF, LEANING ON JON.
This isn't even getting into the Trinity backup stories in Wonder Woman, which, like...Tom King is not valid but Jon and Damian are such an old married couple in them? It's truly incredible?
It took me like 45 minutes to parse Jon's line here as the general 'you" and not specifically Jon saying Damian wasn't straight. But like..."That's for straight people, which has nothing to do with us" is a hell of a thing to say, Jonathan.
I ALSO haven't even talked about DCeased because it's a different universe, but! Jon sitting with Damian while he dies??? MY HEART.
IN CONCLUSION:
Yes, they should never have aged up Jon.
Yes, most of his appearances since have been terrible and bland.
But OH BOY, do he and Damian remain in love.

your fav mello/near fics??? thank yeww (also love your drawings!)
oohh this reminds me i should pick up my ff.net archival reclist project up again...
it is of note that it's been a looooong while since i've combed the archives and there's a couple of common tropes i don't usually read due to personal taste, so i'm sure there's a lot of good fic i'm unaware of and/or forgetting about! this has totally renewed my interest in making a comprehensive personal reclist >:) perhaps i'll come back and edit this post every now and then.
i owe comments to nearly everyone mentioned here i am SO sorry. it's a lost skill that i am working on developing again. at the very least i've got everyone in one place so i can go down the list this year. i encourage everyone reading from this reclist to leave a comment too!
i wrote "off the top of my head" but this got VERY long so under the readmore it goes
obligatory classics
⢠the famous @tierfal 's sidetracked (2010) and full of surprises (2009). rated e and m respectively. these are like the allegorical little black dress in the wardrobe of the platonic ideal of the mellonear oneshot. seem to be pretty well known across the ship fandom ⢠stripped (2009) by blueberryash/@tka-trashfire on tumblr. explicit. i haven't read this in a while but i remember it capturing the delicate gossamer tension of the ship in a way that was sooo bittersweet and nostalgic. ⢠to speak of rules and privilege (2008) also by blueberryash/@tka-trashfire, gen, a manifesto on tenderness, soooooooooo soft, changed the game, near being afraid of thunderstorms was immediately adopted into personal canon. big time influence for the way i write near and mello's pre-canon relationship re: big brother, little brother. ⢠an understanding (2008) by blueberryash/@tka-trashfire, rated T, short and sweet, razor sharp prose, the aesthetics of the little piece live rent free in my head. ⢠dual(2011) by ramasi, @ramasi here i believe. rated m. historians say this might be one of the first examples of mellonear choking kink ever recorded,
â˘scarification (2012) by gacrux11 on fanfiction.net, rated m, big time dead dove do not eat. sorry this one leans early 2010s era grimdark melodrama but i love it sjkdfkjfd. not enough dead dove fics about the boys if u ask me. ⢠salt in the wound (2007) â˘tempus fugit (2007), and ⢠white out (2006) by vaudevillain king on fanfiction. net. a beloved rare find. all of them are rather grimdark edgy products of their era, but some of the best the era had to offer. they make me so nostalgic for my teenagehood on fanfiction.net. i get the impression these might've been written even before death note was finished? ⢠birthday smut (2009) by kleine_aster on livejournal. explicit. this one is SO funny to me because it is both really, really good, very in character, but unfortunately it suffers from almost satirical misogyny that afflicted fujoshis back in the day. near literally is like oh that bitch... like. he would not fucking think that but i can edit quickly in my brain as i read. bisexual mello rights! otherwise really sexy imo. i might be writing something that's kind of in conversation with this fic.
RARE finds
(please tell me if you enjoy any of these, i want to feel like an explorer that's brought back treasures from far away lands)
contemporary favorites:
⢠you've heard about it before and you will hear about it again: the archer ensnared (2023) by jabbernatty, rated e. a jessaerys obligatory syllabus read, the fic that made me go fulltime yaoi disease. i owe so much to jabbernatty they are my white whale my friend my enemy the writer i've psychically imprinted on from the beginning. honestly too scared to even leave a comment given the jessarys archer ensnared lore. may one day may contact and pray i don't come across as insane ⢠postmortem (2023) by the_hemlock true gen, a favorite of ALL time. it's only tangentially mn really, it is 99% about near trying to piece together the mystery of lawlight post-canon, but the characterization and prose are some of if not the best i've ever come across. reads like it could be a piece of canon material. if you only read one fic on this list i'd pick postmortem. ⢠it's friday i'm in love by neallo/@neallo rated m. possibly my all time fave in the neallo cinematic universe. something about the after-hours longing and the standing in the kitchen by the refrigerator lights, as the poets say. i love when stories feel like you're cutting out a window to peer into a larger universe that is just out of reach. perfectly captures what it is like to have a maddening crush ⢠i want to hold you (hostage)(2023) by neallo/@neallo rated e. thee defining fic of this current modern mellonear era. manages to walk the line of kinky/sexy/sweet/fluffy all at once. plot twist of the century in the last chapter. near is properly as bananas insane as mello is in this fic, which is the marker of a good mellonear dynamic. really everything by morgan neallo is a safe bet for a great read ⢠there's nothing i want but you (2023) by neallo/@neallo rated t. wammy's era mellonear obsessiveness that is soooo teenagery and yet a portent of just how codependent they might one day get. cute and ominous. ⢠armageddon/kill game (2024) by bolide/@bolide-archive came out of nowhere a couple of months ago and ascended to the top of the game like a dark horse. rated m, chess au. one of my favorite interior mello narrations and one of the most similar to my own interpretation. such naturally talented prose. i rotate lines from this in my head all the time. still in progress but i have faith that it will be completed :') ⢠how to burn down the sacred loom (2023) by dornishviper/@vriskarlmarx a contemporary CLASSIC. the less you know going in the better. beautiful prose, beautiful structure. they don't make fic like this anymore ⢠the house always wins (2023) by mer_curia/@vivi-scera. screaming with my mouth closed. holds a special place in my heart given that it is my posting that convinced vi to give the ship a try, and i was rewarded with a fic that is so catered to my tastes i honestly had to read it through my fingers. SO good, the manifesto on wammyscest, so rather controversial. heed the warnings. ⢠moonlight (2023) by tsukinousagi/@quicktimeeventfull rated t. an austere, cold little glimpse into a vampire au. it's giving let the right one in. so melancholic. one of the saddest near examinations out there. â˘proximity tells (2018) by abysmallypresent, rated m. truly lives up to death note's second-by-second minutia while managing to keep up the tension the entire time. great characterization. â˘silhouettes (2015) by bad blood/eroticcodependence, @wxmmyshouse on tumblr. unrated, post-canon compliant. made me CRY! elegantly short and simple, bittersweet and so so wistful. â˘arsonist's lullabye (2023) by tzviaariella/@tzviaariella. rated t. this one has a heart-wrenching air of realism to it that exists outside the chaotic universe of death note, one of those examinations of picking up the pieces after the titans have all gone away. very bittersweet.
honorary mentions
⢠let's die somewhere prettier (2020) by firesafinething also one of my absolute favorites, unfortunately it is discontinued and it is likely it will never be completed. sad! the premise seemed SO promising. in my mind i file it right next to postmortem mentioned above. the exploration of the tragedy of 27 year old near we could have had in a better timeline. one day i will leave a comment so good maybe it will bring back the fic from the land of the dead ⢠august underground by me & @firebuggg rated e, in progress. >:) (shamless self promo)
