This is more, like, broaching the topic of your first time. It's not my best work imo but I need to set this down before I keep fiddling with it. Also the keep reading break keeps moving stop that.

She knows you, although anyone could look at you and tell something was up just by looking at you.

You're snapped out of your thoughts when her hand touches your thigh, not heated, just gentle, enough to make you look at her in the eyes for the first time since this morning, worry evident on her face.

"Do you still want to go through with this?" It's soft and quiet, for your ears only. You can only nod, placing your hand on top of her own. You were ready for this, you were tired of running away from what you wanted from overly anxious thoughts. A smile works it's way back onto her face, soft on the surface, but laced with an unmistakble heat, quickly standing up, ready to wisk you away to the bedroom. As much as she'd like to take you, taste you, right then and there, she was going to give you a proper first time.

so i mentioned before in my part 3 that the japanese language has an inbuilt hierarchy quirk to it. and i kind of noticed this nuance getting somewhat lost in the english translation, either because again i have skill issues with english, or that EN inherently doesnt come with the same quirk.

elaborating a bit more: this hierarchy of position/standing can be determined by age, profession, occupation, and experience. in terms of hard priority, age and profession tends to take precedence over everything else.

this means effectively, vash being over 150 should be top dog and given respect in JP/Asian context (respect your elders! or else!!), but because he 1) looks 24, 2) uses very immature speech with strangers, 3) uses boku, hes effectively keeping his head down and posing as a dumbass schmuck.

a/n: AHHHHH yes!! i'm so sorry this has taken so long to be written, and the fact I've been inactive for a week or two - it's been assignment week so i needed to focus on that unfortunately, but i hope you enjoy this! angst is my favourite thing to write lol. unfortunately, there's not much miscommunication in this, but i hope I've ticked the other boxes :)

"Will you say something?"

You keep your head turned, staring out of the night cab's rain-covered window. Your heart is pounding, filled with rage, and you're worried that if you open your mouth, it'll come spilling out and you'll say something you'll either regret or get fired for.

Lockwood was an idiot during your case. He was reckless and impulsive, and it meant that the two of you narrowly finished it with your lives and all of your limbs in good health. You would've forgiven him if it had been a one-off, but he does this almost every single time, and it's becoming a big issue.

So here you sit, arms crossed over your chest as the cab speeds along, biting your tongue. Lockwood sits across from you, watching you with those dark eyes of his while a cut oozes blood on his forehead. Any other day, you would've patched it up immediately, but tonight he'll have to cope. You've had enough.

It doesn't take long to reach Portland Row and the taxi has barely stopped when you jump out and storm off towards the house. Lockwood is delayed a few seconds, having to pay the cabbie, but he catches up easily.

"(name), come on. Talk to me."

Wordlessly, you unlock the front door, half tempted to slam it shut in his face, but this is his house. He's got more right to be here than you.

You make to angrily climb the stairs and hide out in the attic to await Lucy's return and rant to her about Lockwood, but his hand wraps around your wrist as you reach the second step, stopping you.

"Please, (name). I can't stand it."

For a minute, you just stare at him. The blood from his cut has been smeared across his forehead, and the bags under his eyes have become a little more pronounced, but your usual sympathy has disappeared, eaten away by fury.

"What do you want me to say, Lockwood? Oh, it's okay that you almost killed yourself being so reckless tonight. You're my knight in shining armour. Or, how about: I know you promised to be reasonable tonight to make amends for all the other times you've almost killed yourself, and you didn't end up being reasonable, but I forgive you."

He looks at you, his gaze soft. His eyes are desperate, but he's got you talking which was his goal. It seems that the context of the conversation doesn't matter all that much to him.

But you don't care.

"Every single case," you say, trying to keep yourself from raising your voice, "has ended the same. We almost die or get seriously injured because you get reckless. I get it. You're trying to save us, and, believe me, Lockwood, I'm grateful for that, but what would happen if you died? Who would protect us then? Because all of this - you throwing yourself in the face of danger for us - will mean nothing if you die."

"I'm not going to let you guys get hurt," Lockwood says, and there's an undertone in his voice that gives you a clue to how he's feeling. He's getting irritated.

Good.

"And I thank you for that," you say. "But this is constant. Do you ever stop to think what we'd feel if you died? We'd be lost, Lockwood. Not to mention jobless."

"What am I meant to do? Let you get hurt? Not a chance!"

His rising anger is feeding into yours, and soon it'll be a raging fire, ready to burn everything in its wake. You have half a mind to let it loose, to tell him exactly how you feel about his stupidity, but you reign it in for now.

"Don't you hear me? I said I'm grateful that you try to keep us safe, but not at the cost of your own life!" You tear your wrist out of his grasp, breathing heavily. "Just take a minute to imagine this: you die on a case, and we have to deal with the body. We have to watch you die, and then we have to ignore the grief to not only finish the case but also make sure your body is taken away safely, that you're given a funeral. After that, a lifetime of grief and regret and denial, hoping you step through that fucking door one more time! Of all people, I thought you'd know what that kind of thinking does to a person."

His gaze hardens. "Watch yourself."

The laugh that escapes your lips is humourless. "Right, okay. I forgot. We don't talk about that topic because you're not ready, and that's fine. But it'll be me that has the burden when you die. Then George and Lucy will have to figure out how to cope, too. But we don't have a room to hide your memories away in, Lockwood. We live in a house surrounded by you."

You climb up a few stairs and point at a photo on the wall. "These pictures? They can be stashed away, but the feeling of you can't. Your soul has practically been embedded into the walls, the floor, the ceiling. Nowhere we go in this house will allow us to escape the memory of you."

His face is a little red as he watches you. He's angrier than you've ever seen him.

"So leave then."

The words feel like a punch to the stomach. "What?"

"If you're so sick of it, if the thought of my possible death is too much, then leave. Everyone does. It wouldn't surprise me if you did."

It takes all of your willpower not to scream at him. Instead, chest filled with the pressure of your fury, you make your way back down the stairs until you're eye to eye with Lockwood. He's breathing heavily now, too, his chest rising and falling rapidly as he watches you, eyes blazing with anger but also something else... Guilt?

"You don't get to say that," you growl. "I have been here for you since the beginning. I helped you set this company up. I helped you get it licenced, and I was the one who sweet-talked our way into getting full DEPRAC insurance. I have supported every stupid decision you've made. I've questioned you, but I never pushed. And yet, you still have the gall to say that you wouldn't be surprised by me leaving?"

The anger is so strong that tears threaten to cloud your eyes, but you push them down. You will not cry.

"I've tried my hardest to make sure you stay alive." The waver in your voice is embarrassing, but something in Lockwood cracks at the sound of it. "All I do is make sure you stay alive because you're all I've had for years. I've always cared for you. I've sat and patched you up night after night because I care about you - shit, I love you, Lockwood! I always have! So, don't you even dare suggest that I would ever leave. It's as good as insulting my parents' graves."

At that, you turn on your heel and storm up the stairs, leaving Lockwood standing at the bottom.

It takes a while for you to calm down.

After cleaning yourself of all specks of blood and dirt, you change into clean clothes and sink down onto your bed, closing your eyes and trying to slow the thrumming of your heart. Your hands are shaking from a mix of rage and sadness, but they lie on your chest, easing as your heart rate slows.

It takes all of your willpower to try and not think about one of the last things you said to Lockwood - that you love him - but it proves to be harder than it should be. You didn't lie. In your years of knowing Lockwood, you've grown close to him, something that had been hard originally because of your lack of trust in people, but he charmed his way right into your life. Every smile, every touch of your fingers left your heart racing and your mind hoping, begging, that he felt the same.

Now, though, after that argument, you're almost entirely convinced that he doesn't.

When George and Lucy arrive back at the house, you trudge downstairs to the kitchen where everyone awaits to discuss the cases. Lucy's already made you a cup of tea that you accept gratefully as you sit down at the far end of the table.

Away from Lockwood.

The change in your seating is noted by everyone, your usual chair left empty beside Lockwood's at the head of the table. George frowns, glancing between you and Lockwood, and Lucy gives you a look that you ignore.

"It was a phantasm where we were," you say, scribbling away at the thinking cloth. "Well, there was that, and then there was a very angry Wraith as well. Murder victims. We dealt with them quickly."

George's eyes find the plaster on Lockwood's head, much less neatly applied than it would've been had you patched him up.

"Rawbones for us," Lucy says, sipping her tea. There's a patch on the sleeve of her jacket that smokes slightly, burned by plasm. "George found the source - a manky old mug. Made no sense. Skull was no use, either. I think he's mad at me."

"Again?" Lockwood asks. His voice isn't entirely there. "What did you do this time?"

"I didn't do anything. He's just a little prick."

You bite your tongue to stop yourself from making a snide comment. The others are watching you carefully, easily picking up on your mood, but they don't bring it up.

Lockwood's eyes haven't left you this entire time. He's trying to communicate in that silent way you both developed after years of friendship, but you tear your gaze away from his, pushing down the re-emerging fury in your chest.

"Well, we're all alive," Lockwood says, laying emphasis on the final word. "Let's get a good night's sleep. We've got a meeting tomorrow with another client."

Lucy and George get up immediately as if they were waiting for a cue to leave. They're gone in seconds, closing the kitchen door behind them. It makes no difference. You silently sip your tea, still scribbling away. Your little mess of lines has turned into an angry face.

"(name) -"

You stand, making to leave the kitchen with your mug in hand, but Lockwood blocks the door.

Staring up at him, you scowl. "Excuse me, Anthony."

There's a little smirk playing on his lips. "Using my first name? I suppose I am in trouble."

"It's nice that you think this is funny, but I certainly don't. Now, let me get past so I can go to bed. I've had enough of today."

"Please, wait." He looks down at you, his eyes soft. He doesn't seem angry anymore - that makes one of you. "Can we just... talk?"

Against your better judgement, you turn and sit back in your seat, placing one of your feet on the seat and resting your head on your knee. You're tired. Not just from the case, but from being angry.

"I'm sorry, okay?" Lockwood says, and you know he's genuine. "I saw that Wraith coming for you, and I couldn't just stand there and let you get hurt."

You sigh, more exhausted than mad now. "That's not the problem, Lockwood. You do this in every single case, even when there's no need to. Half the time, I'm not sure whether it's because you want to protect us or if it's because you want an excuse to die." Your voice catches a little.

He falters, not expecting that. Part of you wants to feel good about catching him off guard, but the topic quenches any of it. You've spent countless nights worrying that you would get up in the morning only to find Lockwood not there or scared that you'd end a case leaning over his dead body.

No one should ever have to think like that.

"I care about you a lot," you say, running a hand over your face. "You know that. But I don't think it has ever occurred to you how badly it'd affect me if you died. And, I know, I'm being selfish, but I don't want to have to live in a world without you in it."

He's silent for a moment. "I'm sorry - about what I said earlier. I didn't mean it."

You barely have the willpower to shrug. "We were both angry. People say stuff they don't mean when they'd angry."

"So, you don't mean what you said? About loving me?"

It's hard to not look at him, but you focus your gaze on the thinking cloth, tracing the messy writing and doodles with your fingers. There are a few coffee and tea stains covering it.

"I meant it." Your mouth feels dry, so you take another sip of your tea. "I meant everything."

The only sound is of both of your breathing and Lockwood's foot tapping rhythmically on the tiled floor. He's nervous.

"I don't expect you to feel the same," you clarify. "To be honest, I hadn't meant to say it right then. If I had my way, I wouldn't have said it at all unless I was sure you felt the same. But, it's out there now."

Lockwood's chair screeches against the floor and, suddenly, he's kneeling beside you, moving so that he can catch your eyes. That stupid grin of his has parted his lips. His hand grasps yours softly, and you can feel his pulse faintly. It's faster than it should be.

"Don't look so smug," you grumble. "I don't forgive you, so I don't see what you have to be cocky about."

His grin only widens. "I'll show you what."

And then his lips have captured yours.

It's a short kiss, no longer than a few seconds, but it's enough to have your stomach performing a whole gymnastics routine. The anger in your chest slowly fades away until it's nothing but a small prickle, still there but nowhere near as powerful as it was.

His lips are startlingly soft, but, really, you wouldn't put it past him to be applying chapstick every waking second. He always wants to be camera-ready. Your eyes have fluttered shut, and, by the feeling of his lashes brushing your cheeks, it seems his have also. You wonder if his brain is throwing a party, too.

When he pulls away, you find yourself wanting more. Instead, you press your forehead against his, shutting your eyes tightly for a moment.

"If that wasn't enough to convince you to stop being so self-sacrificing on cases, I honestly don't know what will."

He laughs, and the sound has your heart soaring. "I'll try my best, but if you need saving, I'll most definitely come to save you. I am your 'knight in shining armour' after all."

His gaze is already locked on yours when you open your eyes again. The darkness of his eyes entraps you, and it's impossible to look away.

"Will you forgive me?"

A sly smile curves your lips. "Maybe if you kiss me more."

gaia update!

her next appointment is later today, still monitoring the new tumor before we decide on the next step... sure hope this time chemo ends up being enough, i really dont want her to have to go thru yet another surgery. its a risk every time for an older cat like her. plus its in a difficult spot this time, close to ligaments and stuff. also, and i know its a strange thing to say, in this case her loving me so much actually constitutes something a problem... she fully wakes up the second she hears my voice or smells my presence, when it wouldve been better for her to sleep off the nausea and grogginess for a little longer 😭 but at the same time i dont wanna wait longer to pick her up because i know she'd be very very upset to wake up while i wasn't there. babyyyy

right now shes feeling and looking okay though. she got some anti-inflammatory shots on monday to help with her teefies, cuz her gums had been hurting (probably its cuz her immune system aint doing so hot rn), and it really helped. she ate a LOT yesterday and seemed really content about it. full tummy gaia :) the problem with her and her teeth is that it's kind of a recurring issue, once again probably stemming from her immune system getting kinda overwhelmed, and it makes it hard for her to eat her kibble (even if the bikkies are small, and soaking them isn't an option because she will NOT touch soggy bikkies even if she's very hungry). while id love to just switch her to wet food full time, that makes her poops very soft (very bad news for her and her funny furry pantaloons) and i... dont have the budget for it... i wouldnt give her and amity anything with a vague ingredients list and without stellar reviews, and high quality wet food in the "full meals every day" quantity is just not something i can afford. so she gets a nice spoonful of her favorite wet food (or canned tuna! she loooooves tuna) after taking her meds and thats it. i love that since its a reward for swallowing her pills, and amity gets the wet food too, amity always stands close and bonks gaia beforehand, like she's encouraging her and saying good luck... amity has been very nice to gaia in general lately. i mean she's still a bit of a nuisance to her, just because their personalities clash a little, but shes been trying hard to be very gentle. i loooooove amity's new habit of kissing gaia's paws. it's so sweet and adorable... thats right amity, your big sister is very fancy and chic, with dainty pawsies that need to be kissed!

she's also been very playful, which is good. she's got energy! and a new favorite toy, once again its part of a larger toy amity customized for herself (ripped parts off of) and it's this soft fuzzy orb thing. she's also been a little whiny, but i'm pretty sure that's just her complaining about the heat, it's not uncommon for her in summertime. she feels better when the fan is pointing at her. oh and she hates the lawnmowers outside... i dont wake up from the noises i wake up from her yelling at the noises ajdhfbxkdj. shes so annoyed.

wish it were easier to get a pet groomer appointment in this doggone town. a lion cut would definitely help her cope with the temperatures. plus knowing how funny she looks when her fur is wet id love to see her BALD she would look soooo funny. all the places with good reviews are always fully booked though it seems. swear to god this is all such a scam, Back In My Day if your cat was in surgery you could ask the vet to go ahead and give them a lion cut while they were still under anesthesia lmao. my own clippers just don't work with her fur either, it's too fine and soft. the cons of being a fluffy cloud... a toasted meringue angel... a lovely tiramisu girl... a silly baby s'more... a caramel frappucino princess...

Goemon, I thjnk, would be more inclined to live a slower, easier life. He knows he can’t pretend to be young forever, even if that doesn’t necessarily mean having kids.

Lupin is great with kids from a merely entertainment-centric standpoint. He’s animated and wacky and constantly in-motion; and most kids love that! His natural charm makes him a wonderful candidate for children’s birthday parties, but not so much for babysitting. He is, of course, level-headed enough to safeguard a child. He cannot, however, be trusted not to let them get away with murder.

In fact, he… actually actively encourages bad behaviour. In his experience, breaking rules is great, and it’s exactly what he did as a kid. And who wouldn’t want to turn out like him?

On second thought, maybe don’t leave your kids around him at all. Just to be safe.

When it comes to kids of his own, Lupin is pretty indifferent. He loves the idea of having someone to carry his family name into the future, but he knows he could never be a reliable father figure. He recognises first-hand how messed up it is when your dad is some daredevil big-name thief, and he knows that he couldn’t possibly give up his lifestyle for long enough to break that cycle.

Over time, maybe he starts to recognise that there’s potential for an adopted heir of some kind further down the line? I can see him taking an older kid under his wing and teaching them the tricks of the trade, and I think that would be a much better fit for him and his nature and the level of responsibility he can reliably be trusted with. We know that he’s more than comfortable sharing his life with his found family, and I think having an heir who isn’t necessarily a blood descendent wouldn’t be any kind of issue for him.

The Lupin name itself is important to him, however, and he’d make a huge deal of passing it down to someone else. You don’t get to wear the Lupin name and not live up to the legend. He’ll make it his mission to haunt you otherwise.

In short: they’ll have to be one badass kid.

Goemon isn’t planning on settling down any time soon, either. Though he toys with the idea, he knows that he isn’t satisfied with his own abilities yet. Training is rigorous and the hours he spends away are long. He can’t in good conscience have a child when he’s so busy bettering himself.

With that said, he is well aware of the slow passage of time. He recognises that they’re all going to get old one day, and when he can no longer work, he will need other things to keep him busy and fulfilled. While he has no active interest in children, he doesn’t totally write off the idea. It’s just… there, in the back of his mind. A situational ‘maybe’, if you will.

After all, Goemon… struggles, shall we say, with children. He finds it a little grating to constantly have to explain himself and the world around him, especially in simple terms. While he’s kind and generous in his own way, it’s clear that the distance he keeps socially might not always gel with raising a kid; especially when it comes to teaching societal norms and expectations.

To Goemon, in opposition to Lupin, his name is less about passing it on and much more about making sure that he himself does it justice. He is going to be the best he can be, because that’s what his name implies. The weight of his family’s history is on his shoulders: THAT is what’s important to him.

With that said, I think out of the two of them, Goemon is most likely to have children of his own. While Lupin may have a protégée, Goemon would likely take a much more active role in parenting a potential child. I think he’d secretly enjoy all of the baby babbles and firsts he’d get to experience. As long as he had a helping hand, so he could slip away for a break every now and then.

The secret third answer to this prompt is Zenigata, by the way. Again, not the most… devoted or present father, that’s for sure, but certainly the best father figure out of the whole gang. Probably the most likely to have children, too, considering he’s been there, done that, left to get the milk.

Also definitely the most intent on passing down his name. If he wasn’t insanely obsessed with Lupin, I reckon he’d be living a stereotypical nuclear family lifestyle. Definitely deep in the closet, but you know what? At least he’s great with kids.

Here to give you one last big update on my Origins playthru and to say I finished the base game!!! (If that seemed fast it kinda was, I legit have not been able to put the game down in between my work shifts this week it was just that good.) But anyways! As far as the big stuff goes:

I had Emyr kill Loghain in the Landsmeet duel. For as much as I as the player can understand the logic of "recruiting someone strong to the wardens when you need as many hands as possible to help defead this archdemon" and might have gone that way, my warden Emyr was way past the point of forgiving him. If it hadn't been for the Alienage slaver issue, he'd have Maybe considered it. But the Alienage was his home as a child and his parents were still there, so that was the final straw for him. (That and the fact that he and Alistair were finally on really good terms and there's no way he was going to fuck that up in the final hour.)

We put Anora on the throne! I Do like what I've heard of king Alistair route, but I both didn't harden him (had no idea I Could even do that til way later lol) and Emyr wouldn't have ever forced that on Alistair to begin with. Not the kind of thing he'd be up to doing. I do feel bad for killing her dad in front of her after all that but y'know. Shit happens sometimes.

Lost my mind learning about the dark ritual with Morrigan tbh, was not expecting that even tho I should have knowing her lol. Emyr did do it with her, he was never gonna ask anyone else to do so and after all the hard work he'd rather not die if he can avoid it tbh! (I do wish the game gave you an option to yknow discuss it with your romance partner if they aren't Morrigan but alas that's what personal canon is for.) I didn't bring her along for the final fight tho after all that (prioritized the combat group I knew wouldnt die the entire way for me lol) and she was Not happy with Emyr. I'm so sorry girl I promise we'll make it up to you later.

Not related to choices, but I Did get a hilarious bug in the endgame of getting Alistair's romance bark whenever I switched to him in combat and it had me fuckin laughing cause I was like "did something happen while I wasn't watching that you want to tell me??"

Overall, Origins is going right besides FFXIV for one of the best games I've ever played, and I do not ever give that rating lightly considering how much XIV also means to me. Definitely one I'll be replaying in the future and will never stop thinking about ~

hardening in origins works really different. with leliana its pretty obvious when and how you do it, but for alistair it's a LOT subtler so i don't blame you for not being able to do it your first try. ftr, you CAN put an unhardened alistair on the throne (i do it with ren for character reasons), he's just a lot more reluctant and certain options aren't available.

ah the dark ritual. a cause for much controversy and one of my personal favourite plot points. the whole "man i wish we could talk about this with our LI" thing is something i've explored in fic/hc before because it is such a MAJOR oversight, but you know. the limitations of games.

alistair's big stupid crush on his bff continues to be real in my brain always, and now the game bugs are agreeing with me. amen.

1. Weddings work pretty similarly as they do normally. Big party, usually culturally infused, fun stuff. Nothing too different. Of course, Gienne and Makkaro had to keep their marriage private. The guests were all Frank. Their rings were fairly plain too so as not to stand out too much when in public.

depends on where you live, since many parts of Europe and Asia have isopods with very localized ranges and can’t be found anywhere else. the same is true of a few native species of tiny pillbug in the US, but it’s less of an issue here since most of our isopods are non-native anyway.

the isopods you bred sound more like the latter group, European introduced species that can be found almost worldwide now. in that case, it’s mainly diseases or spreading invasive species to places they haven’t colonized that’s a major issue. the slight imbalance you potentially made in the isopod gene pool doesn’t really mean much—likely a nonnative species anyway. however, I don’t think enough is known about non-native isopods’ interactions with the ecosystem to say anything definitively. my assumptions have a decent basis, but could be wrong!

in many cases, however, the release of exotic (and domestic, really) pets can be a big issue. it is often kinder to both the pet and the local ecosystem to not let it out of captivity, either by giving it to someone else or by humanely euthanizing it. it’s possible to mess up gene pools, endanger local animals/plants through disease, predation, or other interactions, and a whole host of other things that could all be solved by not setting captive animals loose! there is never a good reason to do that.

nimona spoilers and narrative rambling below

i think its interesting that nimona could have just left (leaving is even suggested in the movie) but she stays, specifically, in the place that hates her out of a hope to find someone who doesnt, and probably also just sheer loneliness. this is one of those things where im sure none of this was intentional and its this way because otherwise movie would not happen. but i think this particular choice does imply a level of learned helplessness IF there are plausibly other humans or beings who nimona could have gone out and met.

the kingdom is all we see of human civilization in nimonas world, so you could either follow the thematic thread and say the kingdom encapsulates all sentient beings or you could follow the more literal interpretation that nimona stuck around not because the rest of the world is desolate, but because of how traumatic her sole experience of intimacy was and how little she thinks of herself from years of rejection, a glimmer of hope, and then a thousand years of being hated by literally everyone. she stays because getting love from here, specifically, is important to her even if it means sticking around to endure being hated.

i was just thinking about how cleverly written it is that even though watching the movie when ballister suggests leaving i as an audience member am also like "YES. LEAVE!!!" but still understand why she chooses to stay.

sidenote but i do think bringing up leaving does present a bit of a narrative issue. for one, ballister going from willing to run away with nimona to angrily confronting her about the scroll is a pretty big swing, and even though they try to sell it with the ambrosious scene i still found it jarring. And, by presenting the audience with the possibility of leaving the situation as a possible solution, it does beg the question-- if she can leave, why hasnt she? obviously in that moment she is motivated by bringing the director to justice, yes, but what about before? Well, points to previous paragraphs. We as an audience do understand why, and as i said if she just left then movie wouldnt happen.

I think its interesting because its a glimpse into another way the narrative couldve gone. Instead of the attempted suicide followed by vindication and valorization, nimona leaves. she leaves the people that hurt her behind, and there are other things out there for her. Obviously this ending doesnt pay off anything thematically, but why consider thematic payoff when cutting ties to abuse?

I think nimona is an incredibly hopeful and wish fulfilling story about overcoming those who are prejudiced against you, killing corrupt bigoted public officials, changing peoples mind and getting them to see you, and finding love. I think its meant to be a very encouraging story for kids, especially queer kids, who wouldnt have an option to run from a hostile place either. But i also think, inadvertedly, it teaches kids that your queerness (shapeshifting) means that people who will be able to love you are rare unless you yknow sacrifice yourself heroically for society. that finding someone is miraculous, because it feels miraculous, and when youve been rejected all your life the idea of an abundance of people out there who would care about you is absurd. i think this would be a lot worse if she rly did die at the end to be fair

On the offchance there are any kids stuck in a hostile situation reading this just know that once you can run, you should, without remorse and also that nimona is a good movie

i wouldnt day sofia coppola is overrated, tbough I do think part of her popularity is a byproduct of being a nepo baby. I think shes a good director, she really centers the feminist gaze and her women characters tend to be layered and morally complex. I did like the virgin suicides and marie antoinette. Shes very sensitive to the way she portrays adolesence on screen, and I she attempts and at times successfully deconstructs patriarchy and reveals it inequtable power dynamics.

Though for me her biggest problem is her inability to tackle race in any meaningful way, in lost in translation she heavily relies on sterotypes to perpetuate the otherness of the asian poc in that film. In beguiled she erases the history of slavery in order to a portray a version of southern gothic that is white centered. When it comes to WOC / POC she either erases them or turns them into one dimensional sterotypes thats her biggest knock ( and its a big one).

Very interesting... It seems this has also been the gripe of many for the Euphoria show as well. Some feel Sam needs some various writers who can tackle those aspects better.... Some even felt that way about M&M as well.

Look, I have no issues with white directors tackling the subject of race. I mean, Steven Spielberg directed "The Color Purple" for goodness sakes.

But if you're going to tackle an area that you're NOT that familiar with, then you should get some writers or seek input from others in that community so that your work can reflect those communities and groups more accurately onscreen.

For example, I could tell with the series "Little Fires Everywhere" that they DEFINITELY had some black women who were brought in to help write some of those episodes, even though the author of the book is actually Asian. There were just so many things that you could just FEEL were written by black women, and our input was definitely taken into consideration, and it reflects that onscreen in many various episodes. It was a very well-done series imo!

To all the replies saying they "can't just fix themselves"; nobody is saying "just fix yourself". Most of you are probably young and dont realize this yet but life will never feel good or perfect or fine until you decide to feel that. It's a hard thing to understand because often, we are too focused on exterior aspects of our problems and not interior ones.

We are upset we don't have friends or the job we want or the things we want, when in reality you will always want more!! Thats what life is literally about!!! It is desires and goals and working towards the future while surviving and enjoying today. You cannot expect to have a life worth living without having a desire to live for that life.

When people do focus on their internal issues, they either just see the big picture or they get caught up in the smallest things. For those that feel they are incapable of something because their problem is just too big, you have to break it down into smaller pieces. You cannot just go "I am too shy to make friends" you have to figure out why you are shy, where it stems from and how it makes your life harder. There can be a tendency to do this type of breakdown and then feel overwhelmed but you have to:

1. Stop overthinking!!! Most ppl would have a much easier time not living in their heads but it's hard because most ppl are also doing so because they are lonely and struggling.

2. Realize that all these things can be broken down into different parts but are ultimately still connected. You dont have to work on every little issue you have, often just putting effort into a few things ends up alleviating a lot of other problems!!

I know it is really really REALLY hard to internalize these things when you are not in the right state of mind but I promise you it will get better and you can be better.

Start small and be realistic. Don't give yourself deadlines and remember that you are young. Literally no matter how old you are, you have time, I literally swear on the lives of everyone and everything I love that you have time. You will succeed at the things you desire and will learn to love the life you have and the person you are. Life is just as much about growing and changing as it is about accepting who you are and loving it all regardless of the changes and growth to come.

It will be much easier to try if you want to. I know people don't like hearing that, or feel their problems are beyond just a mentality change but that's just not how this works. It doesn't matter if there are things out of your control or you need medication to help you, or just help in general. None of these things help you without you have a desire to help yourself. You have to be willing to try and push yourself. You have to be brave and strong and resilient in the face of these problems. I know it feels impossible but that just means you cannot yet and that's okay. You have to work towards being able to.

I know it can feel like you've struggled forever but sorry you have not been around forever lol and you won't be. Life being impermanent might be scary for some but its also why life has meaning. Life is just Life. There is no wasting it, you just have to do what you have to do to be what you want to be. Remember: No Deadlines!!! You are not a product, you are a person. It can be hard to see that growing up in this world, it can be hard not to feel boxed in by the constraints of this world but you have to tryyyy life is literally just about trying. You have to remember that despite how shit the world seemingly is, most ppl are still living. If the world really was so broken we wouldnt be around today. Life Always Finds A Way applies to people too. You will find a way just as literal billions of us have, throughout all of time, for us to be here today.

It can be hard to hold onto these thoughts always but, again, just try. Just try to remember it when you can and try to fight the parts of you that tell you it's not true. It may seem impossible but you have to remember that you didnt always feel like this. You weren't born feeling incapable or like you are lost or missing things in life or whatever it is you feel. These things developed and became patterns over time and in that same way, you have to fight them to create better more healthier patterns. It may not happen instantly, but often it happens much faster than you expect, and again, NO. DAMN. DEADLINES. There will always be more to see and do and experience and love and everything that you feel you're missing. There is always more of it in the future!! You just have to try!!!!!!!!
