But how can you connect to all of the unhinged things said in the tags of the iwtv fandom, how can you just forget about your sexual orientation and experiences?? I assume you haven't been able to experience everything that has been expressed in the tags??

Okay! I answered the first one as patiently as I could. But IMMEDIATELY sending a follow-up interrogating my response feels in bad faith, so I'm going to allow myself to be considerably blunter this time.

(If you were just trying to understand and this comes across as unnecessarily hostile, well, it can be a learning experience about how people will react to you questioning them repeatedly. Or don't learn! Up to you. But after this I'm done with the conversation, I'm too old for this shit).

1. I am capable of connecting with and relating to experiences that are not exactly the same as my own! A shocking ability, I know. Even across identity lines! Wild.

2. As far as 'how can I forget', I tried to explain as well as I could last time that when I'm engaging with fiction, I am not doing so through the lens of my personal identity. I simply don't think about myself that much! 🤷‍♀️ Sorry if you can't relate! When I'm watching a show, I am enjoying the narrative structure, the artistic choices, thinking about the characters and trying to empathize with their experiences / engage emotionally with their role in the story. When I am engaging with fandom I am making friends and enjoying their passion, their opinions, their energy and joy. I am not sure what's not clicking here.

3. I will ALWAYS ALWAYS side with people who are expressing their most unhinged, unfiltered, unpoliced, joyous selves, literally no matter how they identify, over anyone - no matter how they identify - who would police or judge other people for being unhinged. Those are my people. You know who is not my people? Anyone but does not focus on their own joy, but instead spends time looking at people whose experiences are different and criticizes or judges them. I'm with the weirdos first and foremost: respectability identity-policing joyless lesbians can lose my number permanently.

4. I have not read every tag on every iwtv post? I honestly only have the vaguest idea what sorts of tags or posts you would be talking about - stuff thirsting after actors? Maybe? That's my guess? Anyway, I only follow a handful of people, mostly people whose opinions or comments on gifsets I made I found enjoyable. I've had fun making friends in this fandom! I love hearing what my friends have to say.

5. Literally what business of yours would it be what I experience? I mean this honestly. What is your personal investment in questioning / policing what another person who you don't know (I assume we're not tight or we wouldn't be having this conversation anonymously) can/can't think or experience based on how they identify? Why is this so urgent to you, and your own sense of self? Something to reflect on maybe.

Talia made it back to Vinny’s safely just like she knew she would, just as she planned, she Uber’d to his street, and walked the rest of the way, recognising the houses just enough to know which way to go to get to the right one. It was better than having to stop and ask for directions when, one, she didn’t know the house number of the house where she was going, and two, she wasn’t sure how much they knew of Vinny’s life so she didn’t want to cross any lines, and lastly, she was all sweaty and sticky, that would just feel awkward.. Wow, usually she was so much more responsible than this. So, thankfully, no, she was able to get back on her own, otherwise she would have been screwed as if she wasn’t already.

Richard Olson, making all the sense leave her head. Perfect. As if she couldn’t think herself more of a dumb ass right now. For anything that she’d let happen, but craved at that moment, and maybe, still thought over. Damn him. It didn’t help that the whole walk back to Vinny’s house, every time she even thought of the way Rick had touched her, even in the slightest way, her tattoo had pulsed with a warmth that shot right between her legs.

Once she got there, Talia showered and cleaned herself up properly, washing away everything, everything. Asleep, resting in bed when Ava and Vinny got back later in the day, she made sure of it, or at least, for all appearances, she was sleeping. The last thing she wanted to do was face why she had left the party early and just hoped that Ava had told the others she wasn’t feeling well, giving them her apologies. Trying to explain to anyone just felt like too much, Ava had been bad enough, and anything more than a text message.. Hopefully, she’d had fun, and she’d leave it be now that the day was over and done.

The next week, it passed in a blur. She had met Vinny’s family, and it was something of complete chaos. Sweet chaos. Seemed once a month his mother insisted on a family dinner, at least for those who could make it. Considering this was not only the first since Vinny was home from the tour but also since the last time he’d managed to come to one of the gatherings, he’d found his soulmate, they were the star attraction.

Talia smiled, seeing the simple sweet joy in Ava’s eyes, hearing the laughter as the two regaled the story of how they met over and over. How Vinny was so shocked at seeing her soulmate tattoo while they were at the VIP meet and greet. Thankfully they blessedly left out the fact of Talia’s soulmate connection to the story, not only would it have taken away from it, but brought up so many questions that she honestly didn’t want to answer. Especially when she realised that Vinny’s mom asked about how Ricky was doing, something about hearing from Gladys about the police being called to his place the other day, the same day they got home from tour.. She hoped everything was okay.

That shocked her, and Vinny appeared to be in the dark about that turn of events too, telling his mom he didn’t know anything, but Ricky seemed fine when they’d seen him at the barbecue.

Oh, he’d seemed fine, alright.

Physically at least, mentally Talia didn’t know where his baseline was with him demanding her to strip and prove she was his soulmate in the middle of a party with everyone outside, and then them fucking in the bathroom.

Talia didn’t know where she was mentally, either. Who was she kidding, she knew, she hadn’t been okay for weeks, and she didn’t know she would be any time soon, all she could do was keep going. One foot in front of the other and just pretend everything was normal, until, maybe it would be again.

So she did.

That included trying not to get in the way of Ava and Vinny spending alone time together. As much as she knew Ava wanted her to get to know Vinny more, and she did, she spent time together with them, movie nights hanging out and stuff like that, laughing over board games once or twice, it was impossible not to see how they were around each other, and when they were alone together, there were moments that Talia really just would rather be anywhere else fast. Not hard to recognise, Ava should remember how it felt around Kyle and Jordan when they found out they were soulmates.

Sure, those two had been dating for years at the time, but when they finally got their tattoos, it was like something flourished in them. She couldn’t even say it was physical, but still felt intimate, and being around when Ava and Vinny were together, sometimes she’d rather just leave them alone, together. To bond, properly, the way they should. Without her being pesky, without the confines of a bus full of bandmates for two weeks straight.

That was how she started heading into town to explore during the day and enjoy finding different places. She found the local tattoo parlour for one and got to talking to the artists there. They were some good guys, fun to hang out and chat with for a little bit. Found a nice little bookstore to enjoy raiding, even a little café that reminded her of Jordan, who had her video calling him and telling her that she had a new barista, and he was officially replaced because they made better coffee. Did she get chewed out while she giggled mercilessly the whole conversation? Yes, yes she was. Absolutely hilarious, and completely worth every second, too.

It was as she was hanging up her call that she came across someone else she’d met in town already, surprised, Chris.

“Oh hi!”

“Hey Talia, you sound like you’re making yourself at home.”

Shaking her head quickly,

“No, no, not home, just, comfortable, while I’m here. Giving Ava and Vin some space. I’m not really sure how long I’m going to be here.”

Seeing the coffee in his hand, hers was barely half finished, but considering her conversation with Jordan, it might be cooler by now, she’d still drink it though, it was caffeine, so why waste it?

“Did you want to join me, or are you running out the door?”

“Oh, I’m happy to get off my feet, I’ve been all over town running errands all morning.”

Grinning slowly at that,

“You don’t have someone to do that for you?”

Watching the singer's shoulders shrug slightly,

“Well, when it comes to work, and when we’re on tour, yeah. Better than getting swamped under a mountain of everything, ya know? But at home, even if it can all feel like too much sometimes.. I like being the one running around doing everything. Even if it feels crazy sometimes, it feels like home.”

Talia nodded slightly, she supposed she could understand that,

“Feels normal.”

“Yes, exactly. Just like everyone else, you get it.”

“Yes, yeah, I get it.”

Strangely, that was how she felt when she gave up trying to meet Ricky when she gave up having a soulmate at all. At least, almost normal. She still had to worry about the people who were looking for their soulmates, and she knew wasn’t the one so they just didn’t bother with her, it could get very rude and dismissive, as if she wasn’t even a person sometimes, that was frustrating.

“Sometimes, normal is everything you crave.”

Having coffee in the afternoons with Chris became a new normal, laughing, joking, and talking about all kinds of things, it was great to just talk and get things off her chest. Well, some things, there was what she still hadn’t spoken to a soul about, like what had happened in the bathroom at the barbecue, not even a week later despite sitting there, at the table, having coffee with Chris for a few days in a row now, she hadn’t said a word, and she wasn’t going to. Not even to Ava. What would be the point?

Rick could breathe better when the security upgrade was finally finished, and Chris had told him he’d talked to Vinny about getting his upgrade too. He didn’t know if the girls knew, hopefully, they didn’t have to know, and they didn’t have to worry, it should be something they were doing anyway living in the public eye. It was something they should all be doing regularly, but this time, there was even more of a reason. Whether Chris had told Vinny the added reason outside the fact he had Ava to protect now, more than just himself, he didn’t know.

Ricky hoped not, he didn’t think so. If Chris had, he was sure Vinny would have called him over it and probably demanded to know why Rick hadn’t told him about Grace showing up like that himself after everything that had happened between them in the first place.

He hadn’t. Hell, it took him days to get a call asking about the cops coming to his house, something about his mom hearing from one of his neighbours.. Damn that gossip grapevine, though, everyone knows everything sometimes. It could be worse than social media if they weren’t careful.

A week went by and yet, he was doing his damnedest not to think about what Ava had said to him about Talia dealing with the mess of having him as a soulmate. If he thought too much about it, he might turn around and cave into wanting to know more. If he thought about it, he might actually ask. He was trying not to, he was trying to keep his distance from Talia. As far as he could. Because that woman was starting to make him curious, and he despised it. Why, he barely knew anything about her, and he didn’t want to know anything about her. He refused.

Well, he knew how it felt when she came apart around him. He knew how she looked when she did, how she shuddered, how it sounded when she moaned like that, and he refused to admit even to himself that he’d replayed the memory a few times over the past week. Fuck. Damn, his soulmate tattoo heating up on his neck every time he tried to shut himself down and not think about her, the way she felt under his hands. Damn it. The feeling was just uncalled-for, and strange, strange enough that he was tempted to look it up online, but if he was honest, he was a touch afraid of what he might find. What it might mean.

What if it was all in his head?

Today he was in town, grabbing some groceries and while he could order them online these days, he didn’t feel like dealing with strangers picking his produce and touching all his food right now. Sure it’s tedious, but he does it, he goes down to the markets, buys his fresh food, and some nice goodies and packs up his car to head home. Deciding to drop in and pick up some coffee on the way home, far too tired right now, strung out.. He was stopping in at the café when he saw them.. Talia and Chris, sitting inside, laughing.

He didn’t know what was happening at that moment, but all he could see was them, Talia, sitting with Chris, with that bright happy smile on her face, and she looked so carefree. An expression that he’d never been able to give her, not that he’d ever cared to try, but that fact didn’t seem to matter right then, the sight of her look like that talking with Chris just seemed to make something twist in his chest. Glancing from Talia to Chris, whether it was irrational or not, and Ricky, he knew, he knew it was, he couldn’t help but think how dare Chris, after everything he’d said to him. Never mind that Rick had rebuffed it at every turn, he’d tried. Fucking traitor. He was going to fucking destroy- Before Rick realised what he was doing at all, his feet were walking him towards the glass doors of the café, his fingers reaching for the silver handle, wrapped around the bar and ready to push it open so he could walk in. But that was when he saw his reflection in the glass, instead of mentally zeroing in on nothing but Chris where he sat inside. Ricky froze at the sight of the man staring back at him in the glass. He looked fucking deranged.

Shit.

Shit..

What was happening to him?

No. No, no.. Shit. He. What, what is he supposed to do now?

He let go of the handle as if the metal had burned him and backed away, turning on his heel and walking right back to his car, climbing in, and driving away quickly. He didn’t even notice the fact that Chris glanced towards the café entrance. Chris had seen him walk away, watching the guitarist retreat, even if Talia had been none the wiser about the close call of the dramatic showdown that had almost happened then and there.

How are you guys feeling about the new twst event, The night before Christmas one, especially your thoughts on the new character!

I’m always excited for the Halloween events, Anon! All of them have been fun so far, and I love events with big groups of characters. Super happy to see Idia participate this year, we miss him a lot… it feels like we haven’t seen him in ages for some reasons. Especially in the same event with Azul and Jade and a lot of other guys!

And the gothic feel of the outfits is great, like super good. I am one of those people who haven’t seen the original movie, but the aesthetics of it are so good and suit the boys very well. Not saying anything about the Jamil card because I’m going to have cardiac arrest if I start thinking about it.

As it always it with us though, it will take some time for us to get to the event and actually watch it – we only watched the last Halloween one this spring. So we probably won’t be able to comment on anything related to the event for quite a while. It’s interesting that this is a “lost in the book” type of event though, but to be honest, I don’t know what to make of it. I hope it’s fun though, it better be.

As for the new character (is it Skully or Skelly?), I talked about him a little bit in this reply, and I don’t have much to add yet. Well, other than now that we see his full design I can tell he is pretty well-balanced. I hope they have a lot of fun with him in live2d sprites.

I think Jade and Floyd were the types of kids who considered all the nannies and private teachers to be their toys. Of course, they are here to take care of them or teach them, but in actuality, they are here for them to entertain themselves. Nice enrichment for horrible kids…

Possession (1981) [One of my favourite movies of all time! The story, the acting, the effects UGH. Gagged me for sure.]

Dead Alive/Braindead (1992) [Honestly up there with Possession. So good but in a completely different way. It’s high camp, high gore, and it felt like i was high while watching it]

Lake Mungo (2008) [A movie that actually scared me while i was watching it, and stuck with me for a good week. Triggered my fight or flight like no other. rawr]

No One Lives (2012) [This would run all the time when I had cable. And I'd sit and watch it every time this came on. There are...certain scenes that are just burned into my mind]

The Cell (2000) [I don’t even know what to say. The visuals in this movie are just SO GOOD. I want to tongue kiss the entire art direction team. The costumes, the cinematography, it’s so creative and so lovely]

I have to give a mini shout out to Lucio Fulci, he is my favourite director. Period. If you’re interested in his movies [some focus on zombie, slasher, Giallo] his Gates of Hell Trilogy is always a good start!

Troma. Fucking Troma, a lot of the movies they make are gross, stupid and cheap. So if you want something that’s absurd but still strangely entertaining. I’d recommend looking through their catalog of movies, picking a random one and seeing what happens.

Full Moon Features <3 If you want some film series, I’d recommend Puppet Master and Subspecies! [I’ve seen every Subspecies]. Full Moon has a lot of killer doll and toy films. But they do branch out. Castle Freak kinda wild though.

TURNABOUTS FAIR PLAY what are your top five horror movies??

Aaahhh, I've been uno reversed~. Touché, darling!

The last three are in no particular order and they're all trilogies I'm counting as a set. Second place is usually subject to change at any given point in time, it just fluctuates depending on my mood.

1: Candyman (1992) - Not just my favorite horror movie, but my favorite movie of all time, period. Taking the mythology from "The Forbidden" and turning it into the story that they did? The shots, the symbolism, the casting, the sheer power of how seductive the relationship is between Helen and Candyman, the tragedy. Truly a movie for all disaster bi's out there. Helen's story and the way it's handled! This movie gave me such a triumph out of tragedy, and it's so beautiful. It holds up brilliantly, it's high art, it's everything. The 2021 sequel was also excellent.

2: Malignant (2021) - Absolutely bonkers in the fucking yonkers. This movie was made for fun and that one specific fight sequence in the police station. It's wild, it's not taking itself seriously, and yet it's fascinating to analyze and comb through. Periodically I just get hit with the need to reassess and think about elements of this movie. Maybe one day I'll get back to that fic trilogy I had planned for it. An excuse to pour my analysis into a written narrative? Perhaps...

3: Hellraiser original trilogy (1987-1992) - Is that the religious trauma talking? Maybe a little. These movies grabbed me by the throat. The first was a near-perfect adaptation of "The Hellbound Heart" and an interesting look at Clive Barker doing directorial work. I actually adore the second one to pieces. It dives beautifully into its own mythology, into revenge, into the horror of medical malpractice as well as the body horror and sexuality. Kirsty Cotton is, imo, perhaps the Final Girl of all time. I also appreciate Tiffany, she's a very good example of a positive neurodivergent deuteragonist in that movie. The third one is...WOOF~. In all seriousness though, I'd always been curious about the films since childhood (the posters and box art of the Hell Priest and the other Cenobites used to grab my attention whenever we went to the video store, Mom used to have to come find me and pull me away from "my staredowns with Pinhead") but I'd been anxious for so long to try them because I hadn't had much exposure to body horror in films. Finally gave them a shot, went "oh, huh, this isn't that bad," and then got sucked in by the movies' approach to the topics they tackle.

4: Scream original trilogy (1996-2000) - My gateway to horror, as I saw the first one when I was seven. My uncles were babysitting me and they never really worried about whatever I saw them watching. They've stuck with me my entire life and honestly they're just so damn fun. The writing is solid and while 2 and 3 have their flaws, I'll defend them to the death, they're still fun and they still work well. Sidney Prescott was my first Final Girl and she'll always hold a special place in my heart.

5: The Shining 3-part TV film (1997) - it's the superior adaptation. Full stop. Kubrick's adaptation has some gorgeous camera work, a few memorable tracks in its score and some iconic lines but it's so lacking. It misses the true heart and strength and point of the story because Kubrick went and did his own thing. The 90s made-for-tv adaptation is brilliant. It has its weak points and there's a few things that visually aged in a clunky way, but the heart is there. The catharsis and the hope is there. It moved me to tears and it gave me everything I could have asked for and more.

HONORABLE MENTIONS

Fear Street trilogy (2021) - They were fun, a lot of fun, and for someone who's never been a fan of R.L. Stine, these were still easy to enjoy. I heard about the trilogy being released and it felt like the kind of thing I remembered from childhood as far as gimmicky releases went, so each weekend, I dove onto the couch and watched them drop on Netflix one by one. I still have a lot of issues and complaints with them, dgmw, but they're a solid summer watch, they really played around with popular subgenres and I think Janiak and her cast and crew did well. One day I'll get back to my fics for this trilogy too. Justice for my girl Ruby Lane.

Us (2019) - ngl this one sat in my brain for weeks afterwards. I need to rewatch it, it's such a good psychological horror.

Urban Legend (1998) - I have a fuckoff weird relationship with this movie. Like, that deserves its own post, probably. But because I have such a weird relationship with it, I felt the need to give it an honorable mention.

Halloween (2018) - I'm here for senior citizen final girl Grandma Laurie Strode kicking ass, I love seeing a survivor reach that age and still be willing to do what it takes to survive and protect those she loves.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) - this is a weird one because I wouldn't say I enjoy watching it like most other movies. But it's a really interesting study piece, especially the more I read nonfiction books that go into depth and detail about the film and the time period it's contemporary to. I don't watch this movie for fun, I watch it to study, to analyze, to self-inform and to then improve my ability to apply those skills to other horror movies I watch.

So, fun fact about me, I never actually watched Gravity Falls. I mean, I did. But I only watched it by proxy to my siblings, who were obsessed with it and watched it all the time. I'd also catch some reruns on TV from when the show was originally airing on Disney Channel or XD or something.

Anyway, now that the fandom is reignited with the release of the books, I've been seeing some things that dose kinda make me wanna rewatch the series. But I also kinda don't want to watch the whole series just for the few characters I'm interested in knowing more about. So instead I'm going to read fanfics of some of the ships that piqued my interest and *then* rewatch the show. Cuz I learned from doing the same thing with the Venom series was such a wild ride.

But first, I wanna document my memory of the show and what I've seen of fan content, cuz I kinda regret not doing that with the Venom movie before I watched it.

So, first starting with the main twins: Dipper and Maple. Two autistic siblings. Maple is all rainbows and sunshine and is so deep into escapism that she's drown in it while Dipper is a huge nerd. Maple has a few crushes here and there throughout the whole series, while Dipper has a crush on this high schooler. I thought they were in elementary when I first started watching the show and was surprised to find out they weren't and were starting their first year of high school by the end of the series. Idk if I remembered that correctly, though.

The next pair of twins is Stanley and Stanford. According to my friends, Ford is an absolute ass hat and Gruncle Stan is a single mom who works two jobs. Ford was the 'gifted child' autistic growing up and his special interest is the triangle man. Supposedly he had a bf, Fiddle, whom he accidentally traumatized and just left for Triangle Man. Meanwhile, Stan has an ex-wife, Edna the Owl Lady who misses him, but her aim is getting better. They are also soulmates who belong to each other and deserve each other. He's also dated Pickle Rick at some point. Possibly after Edna. But I refuse to believe that Stan and Rick were ever serious and that it was just a fling. Stan x Fiddle is also piquing my interest, I want to see Stan singing "You Only Want Me 'cause You Want My Sister" by Evelyn Evelyn.

Dipper and Maple's parents are never mentioned, despite the show being heavily family focused. So I imagine they had no fucking clue what the hell happened during their kid's summer trip to see their uncle and had one Hellova story when they came back.

Another notable characters is Wabbles the Pig, who's apparently better than Fat Nuggets. Guys, Wabbles, and Fat Nuggets came from the same litter. This show is all about not pitting siblings against each other, why are we putting Nuggest and Wabbles against each other? They're chill.

Zeus, who's just kinda there. He's the twins' autistic friend. Wendy, Dipper's crush and girl boss. Rodney, Wendy's emo bf. Maple's friends, and then that one bully character they tried to pair up with Dipper, but like, honestly no.

Oh yeah and Bill. Bill's whole ordeal is that he wants to take over the tri-state area, and absolutely fuck with everyone, including the audience, making them believe that there's old man Yaoi where there isn't. At least not in the way the fans think. Now I don't ship BillFord, but I am curious to know if there's any fanart of Ford and Bill's cannonical human design.

There's also the gay police that pulled a Bubbleen. Random ass Chomsky gnomes. Mermaids, vampires, and shenanigans. and the Mystery Shack, which kinda just exists.

I will now dive into fanfics and revisit this post to see how much my memory aligns with the fics.

It's a new month which means it's time to share my June reads! Thoughts below!

The Only Good Indians: Okay, wow. This book was INsane. It was horrific, sad, and beautiful all at once. All things that, imo, make a great horror story. At its heart this is a story about love, revenge, and vengeance, and it's wrapped up in a box of creepiness, chills down your spine, and brutality. The older I get the more I love a tale about a woman's revenge. Absolutely recommend this book to fellow horror fans! However, if you're squeamish about animal harm I would really look at other reviews first to see if it's something you'd enjoy

Six Scorched Roses: Yet another novella in the Crowns of Nyaxia universe! This story delves into Lilith and her tale, and how she and Vale crossed paths. I've praised the lore and world building for this series multiple times for good reason! I LOVE this world! Lilith's story is quite sad. I really enjoyed reading this!

Hunted: If you like thriller/horror movies with dumbass kids being the main characters (they're technically college age but to me that's still a kid LOL) then check this one out!! A young woman goes missing in a big ass old ass forest and her friends try to find her since the police aren't doing much. But there's something else in the woods messing with them while they search. This book is told from multiple perspectives - the kids and the detective - and it's really great. Personally I didn't see the big twist at the end coming! This was a fun, creepy, tense read!

The Manor House: Pretty sure I got whiplash reading this book! There were SO many twists and turns it was hard to keep up sometimes! If you like twisty thrillers, characters with little to no redeeming qualities, and a wild ride all around, this book is for sure for you!

Dragon Queens: My sapphic heart! Since it was pride month I couldn't NOT read something like this! Honestly I loved this one haha, it was like a tropey Shrek with lesbians and it was a lot of fun. VERY spicy, however! If you aren't a fan of smut then do not read this book - there's a lot of it! It was sweet, hot n' heavy, with a happy ending. A great palette cleanser book!

The Deep: Technically I have 1hr left of this book but I wanted to include it anyway! After reading The Troop earlier this year this book has been on my tbr. Nick Cutter is great at writing unsettling themes, horror, body horror, and diving into different types of character psyches. In this book there's an illness attacking and killing humans, and after a discovery they think the cure is at the bottom of the ocean. VERY creepy stuff in here. Deep dark water freaks me out any ways, and this is the epitome of deep and dark. Insanity comes easy and no one is immune to it. Once I finish this book for real I will report back! So far though, I'm really liking it!

Overall it was a great month of books and I recommend all of these!

ah fuck i mean i’ve got some pretty fun stories. one of the best to tell was when my school underwent a school shooting drill, when i went to school in england. no one knew what the alarm meant because some idiot year11 was seen outside the site with the prop gun from the drama department. i was tryna do my maths club with my friends when our teachers start shoving us into classrooms and barricading the doors with tables and chairs. one of the teachers fully body slammed my friend out of the way.

i had a suspicion about what was going on but it wasn’t confirmed until our maths teacher told us to get away from the windows and that we couldn’t leave yet. eventually we were escorted out and there were special armed police. closest i’ve ever gotten to seeing a gun.

stuff like that never happens in england so it was so dystopian. we never even do gun drills so even the teachers didn’t know what to do. yeah but i think it was worse for the people using the sport facilities as they had to hide in the changing rooms. absolutely wild story, love to tell it over and over. safe to say i never went back to that maths aid.

Hils Watches Cross Fire - Ep 36

In case it wasn't obvious I've got today off work so I've decided to push through and finish this. It's been a wild ride!

This is where you go to someone in charge and say 'excuse me the Japanese coach is wanted for murder in China'. Surely they'd halt the game for THAT!

Sure let's have a high speed car chase. Why not? It's going to be ironic if this ends with Xu Wei dying in a car crash after a car crash was his villain origin story.

Oh it's going to happen. Reaching for his phone is how he crashed last time. WHY ARE YOU TRYING TO ANSWER YOUR PHONE WHEN YOU'RE ON THE RUN FROM THE POLICE?

Oh the irony. He avoided the bike that he hit last time and then got hit by a truck instead. Honestly a more satisfying ending would have been him rotting in jail with all his success taken from him but this will do. No idea what the rest of the episode is going to be about given that Continue won their game and Xu Wei is (I assume) dead. There's still another 45 mins to go!

I refuse to be sad despite the sad music montage. In nearly all these scenes he'd already killed Lu Xiabei's brother.

Oh, yeah, I forgot they still have to play the final. Weirdly the stakes feel lower than the semifinal game did

I mean Xiao Feng had a fever and puked right before winning the final. Everyone in this is stupid.

I'm thinking how to rate this on MDL. I definitely enjoyed it. Literally none of it was what I expected, some of it was stupid in a fun way, some of it was stupid in a really annoying way. 8/10 maybe? It loses points for the infuriating 'girls are too delicate to play esports' storyline and the nonsense with officials not giving a shit about cheating going on right under their noses.

But overall I very much enjoyed it and thank you to everyone who recced it to me

10 films I love

I gave it a lot of thought and in the end only the first few are big big favourites, the others are just films I've seen recently or remember enjoying otherwise I'll be thinking about this forever.

Parasite (2019). I only saw this somewhere last year but from that point on I've already had multiple friends watch it with me, it's so fun and every time I watch it I swear I notice new things. I love the plot and the way it balances it's more serious tones with the comedic ones. Big big big love for Parasite.

Snatch (2000). This and Parasite honestly share a number 1 spot together, this has been my favourite film since I was 15 or so I think. It's just so stupidly fun, there's not a single second I've been bored while watching it. It's my ultimate comfort film. Just as with Parasite, it manages to be funny but still has a few more serious moments. Soundtrack has Angel by Massive Attack so that's a good bonus too.

Hot Fuzz (2009). Another big comfort film! Though I pretty much enjoy anything that Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and/or Edgar Wright are involved in. I love the dumb humor and the town it takes place in reminds me of my own sometimes, which makes the experience so much better.

Shaun of the Dead (2004). The only reason this one is below Hot Fuzz is because of the latter's town residents. Also I just enjoy police/crime/cult stories more than apocalypse ones. World's end isn't on here because I still have not completed watching the Cornetto Trilogy.

Donnie Darko (2001). Love me a film where literally everyone (at least kind of) sucks. Gotta be one of my favourite genres. So many theories as to what the film's various scenes and ending mean and represent. Anyway, 28 days left!

Fargo (1996). Again, love me some crime in my entertainment. So strangely endearing at times for a film that's described as a thriller though, the police woman and her artist husband have completely stolen my heart when I watched it.

Midsommar (2019). Very very pretty and visually interesting film, I love all the art on the walls and the little runes embroidered in the dresses. I'm a person that's easily swayed by pretty visuals and even more so if that includes flowers/florals. So I really enjoy the costumes and aesthetic, go figure.

Call Me By Your Name (2017). Most interesting to me is the fact that it's about a temporary love, I don't feel I've seen that often without the film ending in the couple getting together at the end despite all odds or something. And to me the 'temporary' relationships/situationships/whatever you want to label or name it, are just as valuable and worth telling stories about. So I'm glad I could find that in this film, plus the pretty scenery that remind me of going on vacations as a kid.

Pulp Fiction (1994). Yeah yeah my taste is boring I know, I just like my crime drama's. Also, I want to kiss Mia Wallace.

Django Unchained (2012). Banger soundtrack with the exception of one song that felt very out of place. Again a serious film with a funny side. Western costumes drive me absolutely wild.

Telling Myself

now this used to be my fav joshua bassett song and I was absolutely OBSESSED with the music video so get READY for my thots <3

of course we start out with the handcuffed hands, which I didn't notice my first time around like an absolute SILLY BILLY but we all have our faults <3 the contrast with them holding hands when its all bright and sunny (0:17) is so simple yet nice. him casually singing the cutaway shots in front of the place they're about to rob is so unnecessarily funny, and I love the little look directly into the camera as he sings 'how could I ignore my doubts'

the kiss at 1.04 is so pretty and simple with the colours and silhouettes and he does this kinda thing a good amount and I like it each time (big compliment, I hate onscreen kisses) and then the way it changes into an argument at 1.11 is so fun especially with the aesthetic background still there, I really love that shot. I love the way they incorporated the stealing into the song and how it cuts to him in the police station as he sings 'how could you forget the first half of the story now?' (1.26).

'now that you're gone i see it more clearly' (1.48) with him alone in the police chairs is soo good and adds to the narrative in the music video that feels likes it's own thing completely separate from the song. it helps push what later becomes more of a clear point that it wasn't actually that good, like here she left to get questioned and he's finally thinking clearly and idk I like that decision a lot.

I also love the part at 1.56 where he lies down on the bed, and then they bring it back at 2:00 for the cut into the chorus, and he sings it as he moves forward?? idk why that works really well to me, but I love it

the ending is so fucking good the scene at 2:44 where he flops onto the bed then the lights start blaring and he pops back up like a meerkat I adore so much it such a good ending.

30. Have you ever written something that was out of your comfort zone? If so, what was it, and how did it affect your approach to writing fic thereafter?

Yes! I don't know what possessed me to start writing [i can't be wrong (to be craving you)] completely out of the blue, but that fic is largely free-form, stream of consciousness, which I hadn't really played with before. And I have to say, what I thought would be a six chapter fic turned into 100k words and it's one of my crowning achievements. I am infinitely proud of how it turned out. But I tapped into a lot of my own experiences to write a realistic look at Emily's PTSD and now....I can't even read the fic without having panic attacks. So that sucks, but hopefully one day I'll be able to enjoy it myself.

[Between You & Me] was quite fun to write because of the way I used flashbacks to move the narrative along and weave threads through the fic. In doing so, it made my timelines SO complicated. I have pages and pages of timeline drafts for that fic, each chapter was re-written multiple times. I would say this was my most frustrating fic to write in terms of chapter planning. But I adore the final product.

Final one I'll mention because it was such a weird little experimental fic, [False Flags and the Art of Misdirection] is SO underrated. It was basically like if Glass Onion was turned into a CM fanfic. Planning the twists and turns and misdirection was a BLAST. Then, I had to created the police 'transcripts' which were dialog from canon, but they wove the story together. It was such a fun fic to write and I'm so proud of it.

40. Do you tend to reread fics or are you a one-and-done kind of person?

Originally when I first started writing CM back in 2014, I would write thing sin one sitting, post them to AO3 and never look back. I wouldn't even do a proof-read (sorry old readers!). I'd say out of my 80-ish fics from back then, I'd only ever read about five. When I came back to writing last July, I went through my original fics and read each one for the first time. There were tons I had no recollection of writing! So it was a wild ride. Now, I re-read my fics constantly! I read fic to my partner at bedtime, it's our cute little routine. They've never watched CM, but they've fallen in love with JJ/Tara/Emily through reading my fic (and me reading them fic from friends). I read them every new chapter I write and it's so special to share that together. Besides reading aloud, I also re-visit tons of my smut for masturbatory purposes, because I know it's exactly what turns me on!

41. Link a fic that made you think, “Wow, I want to write like that.”

[Take My Hand and show Me the Way] was the fic that changed everything for me. MJDuncan is incredible and this really is the cornerstone Jemily fic. I read this and went 'Oh god, I want to write JJ/Emily now!' and so I did, and so I continue to do nearly a decade later.

[Dreams, Schemes, and In-Between] is one of the best rom-com Jemily fics to ever be written. I actually became friends with @otahkoapisiakii bc I went to yell at them how much I adored their writing. Turned out, they felt the same about me. We've been platonically married for going on nine years now.

And now I'm going to come at you directly, because [(I'll be) a place to rest your bones] is one of the most beautifully painful fics I've read and it really stuck with me. I wrote a review on a Friday Fic Recs list, but honestly, I think your writing really helped inspire me as I wrote 'i can't be wrong'

Perhaps you're right I feel like I also didn't explain myself correctly either.

Head canons are just that. Head canons. Let's not just forget that the whole fandom has decided to headcanon and ship Simon ghost Riley and John soap McTavish. (A lot of people would view this as 'disgusting' because they're not gay etc etc... I make them kiss like my Barbies lol)

Or even that Konig is a social anxiety baby even as an adult who's now a colonel used as a battering ram whose voice lines are so cocky and deranged that honestly it doesn't sound like that to me. (To me that ship has sailed and he's probably turned himself into a hard shell psycho, again the long lost theory of the abused becoming the abuser...) But again, it's adorable, against what I headcanon and a childish view on him but that's ok.

I feel like we need to understand that a lot of the fandom has played the games sometimes from the very beggining of the series, but the headcanons are still wilding. And that is ok. It feels wrong to me to simply say that people that they need to play those.

Headcanons let everyone add more depth to a character that is only portrayed as one thing or very scarcely. We have added a lot of things to theses characters via headcanons.

The issue here is not wherever the fandom creates TikTok's of headcanons that you find are not coherent enough or turn these into OC's. In the end it's still a different view on a character through headcanons.

You're blurring the lines of canon and headcanon with your post. I headcanon that ghost still sleeps with a pacifier and needs to be told a story by price.

When I say don't like don't read or let people write whatever they want, it also applies to headcanon and TikTok edits and all. We're all just enjoying this fandom, making fics edits, headcanons and pov's. I think that what you are doing is exactly the same thing as I said you're doing. The thing that I hate about this fandom is how a lot of people try to police the rest of us.

Whatever it's having to read the comics to know how big of an emotional baggage Ghost has before writing anything, or non-con fics should not be applied to any of these characters or how we should be informed before making pov's of headcanons.

In the end we're all just trying to have fun. Let's just all be a bit more chill in this fandom cuz it's ok, really.

Not to be THAT person but everyone should at the very least watch the MW2 campaigns before posting those goofy ahh headcanons cuz what do you mean Ghost, the man who was abused his whole life and has only known pain would raise his hand at you when angry or would SA you? The man is as gentle as they come, and he worked on his issues, despite all the trauma.

Don't even get me started on how they think Soap is dumb as if the man isn't literally a demolitions expert and the youngest member to pass the SAS selection, and let's not forget Gaz is a literal badass of a man, being the record holder of selection and surviving being shot at by multiple enemies and taking them down while hanging upside down by a rope from a moving helicopter in a high-stress mission.

Some of these cool ass characters have been completely butchered by a fandom who has mostly never even played the games or bothered watching gameplay of the campaign simply because ''oh cool masked man'', yucky.
