thinking about glendon ball tonight. knight of the pussywillows born in a brothel heir to treason and heroism. sold his own sister for a knighthood you are no true knight ser. you are half a boy and you are thirsty for honor thirsty for glory thirsty to prove yourself. to be as brave as your father who is not your father. they tortured the blood out of you you but they never got your honor. what kind of honorable knight sells his sisters maidenhead? hero's blood or whore's blood it makes no matter. your blood does not matter. some will hate you no matter what you do. but others...they can still be kind. you will never be your father. you never even knew your father. you are the mystery knight but the only one who doesn't know the answer to the mystery is you. your father is not your father. in the stories all the knights are brave and honorable and their steel is true. you could still have it in you to be brave, right? you could be brave

2023 Fall Anime
This is honestly a loaded season full of new shows based on relatively new manga. Lots to look forward to
Spy x Family - Season 2 One of the most fun SJ series that have come out in a while. Season 1 was killer, high hopes for season 2.
Goblin Slayer 2 I didn't realize they were even making a second season. This was such a killer series. I'm really hoping they don't fall into the many mid-tier fantasy tropes out there in anime right now. I thought the appeal of the show was really Goblin Slayer himself and less about the lackeys along the way. So we'll see how it goes.
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End This is definitely one of my highly anticipated series. It's about an elf who was part of the Hero's party and her life after he dies. (Since elves live longer) Definitely a darker take on fantasy but has some really solid fantasy and adventure vibes.
Rising of the Shield Hero - Season 3 Season 2 was pretty disappointing and slow. While this looks like it'll be more fast paced, it does look like a tournament arc of sorts. I know some aren't a fan of that kind of arc, but honestly I think it's exactly what this series needs to pick things up again. We'll see.
The Faraway Paladin - Season 2 This was legitimately one of my favourite fantasy series. I thought it was really well written and didn't rush things like other series. I'm looking forward to this season.
Sequels/Continuations: Eminence in Shadow - Season 2 killer series with an anti-hero main character. Definitely worth checking out. After-School Hanako-Kun Hanako-kun spin off Dr. Stone Season 3 - Part 2 One of the best novel concept series with nothing else in it's genre to compare to. Definitely didn't drop the ball on the recent seasons and still worth watching. Dead Mount Death Play - Part 2 One that I didn't particularly enjoy, but has a decent sized manga following. Tokyo Revengers - Tenjiku Arc The continuation of the series. Might be just me but it feels like the series fell off after the first season. The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent - Season 2 A more mature take on fantasy isekai that just started to get into romance at the end of last season. A solid combo of shoujo genres. The Ancient Magus' Bride - Season 2 Part 2 One that I haven't had a change to check out yet but have only heard good things about. Hypnosismic - Season 2 a weirdly addictive musical/rap series. Unique characters and honestly solid rap battles. One I'll be enjoying. -- Related - Paradox Live - Music battle with what looks to be the same style of animation and solid character design. Definitely worth looking at if you're a fan of Hypmic. The Seven Deadly Sins: Four Knights of the Apocalypse A sequel of SDS. Looks like it could be a fun watch for the fans of the series. New:
Shangri La Frontier A new manga fantasy series. This may be a horrible way to describe but it is what it is - a new age SAO- full dive fantasy game. A gamer who only plays shit games, gets into a new massively popular MMORPG and is op. One that I'm excited for because it ticks all the fantasy game boxes I like.
Undead Unluck A relatively new manga series that gained a lot of traction in the last year or two. A gory action comedy that's super chaotic and a lot of fun.
Shy Brand new hero manga series about a shy girl and her anxieties and struggles going into the hero world who grows and gains confidence as she becomes a better hero.
Ron Kamonohashi's Forbidden Deductions This is a manga series that I have kept forgetting the name of so never got a chance to read but all the covers for the manga look phenomenal. Likely the anime doesn't do him justice but it is what it is. Essentially sherlock in anime form. A PI with issues and the wholesome police detective work together to solve crime. Other New Series: Green - Fantasy Pink - Romance Red - Action Purple - Drama The Kingdoms of Ruins A world where witches were hunted down by humans as science surpassed magic. A kid who was raised by a witch swears revenge on mankind. This honestly looks solid. The animations are very cool looking and the mc seems to be an anti-hero. Will be looking at this one. Under Ninja A well known manga series about modern ninjas. Definitely a unique series for this season. The Apothecary Diaries A historical medical mystery show. I've heard the name before and I've also only heard good things. Will be worth a watch. A Girl & Her Guard Dog The granddaughter of a crime syndicate goes to highschool out of town and the current young boss lies his way into the same school. Would be cute romance if it weren't for the fact she's 15 and he's 26.. Butareba - The Story of a Man Turned into a Pig What the title says. A girl finds him and the story goes from there. I'm Giving the Disgraced Noble Lady I Rescued a Crash Course in Naughtiness The usual light novel title. Honestly, doesn't seem as yikes as I initially thought, might just be harmless breaking the rules kinda thing. Could be fun, also a Capybara that strikes fear into people's hearts. My Daughter Left the Nest and Returned an S-Rank Adventurer Looks like a wholesome series where an adventurer finds a baby, raises it and she becomes so strong she's busy working all the time. Just a cute father daughter relationship in a fantasy setting about her wanting to come take time to see him but being caught up in OP fantasy battles. Ragna Crimson Dragons vs Humanity - a human and a dragon team up to destroy all the dragons. Action fantasy series. Berserk of Gluttony I honestly added this because I thought it was hilarious. Looks like a combo of knock offs - the Gluttony skill from Tensura (reincarnated as a slime) and the mc being called Fate with the main girl who looks exactly like Sabre. I'll be skipping but its' here so you know.

Dazed Ⅱ
Vampire prince Enhypen x Shadow fairy princess reader
Word count: 2.2k
Playlist here
Synopsis: Shadowfen was a normally a peaceful place consisting of shadow fairies. The city was beautiful beyond belief until Grimmingthorn invaded. Vampires now overpopulated the city. Both of the Queens being pregnant they decided on a deal of which they live together. Making the new fairy princess and vampire kings grow together. Leading with a lot of obstacles on the way of childhood.
Warnings: Angst, trauma, manipulative themes mentioned, PTSD
Waking up, he was surprised to see two guards at his door. Coming fully to, he sprung up to his feet. “Where’s Y/n?!” The two guards continued staring forward without a sound. “Answer me!” Still not receiving a reply he shoved at the guards. Grabbing his shoulders the two guards finally looked at him.
“This is for your protection. There is a hunter in the castle. The queen gave us demands to not allow you to leave.”
“I don’t care what mother wants! I want to know where Y/n is! Is she okay?! Tell me!” Shoving him lightly, the guard scowled at him.
“We are not allowed to answer that. Go sit down kid. Also do you really believe she would be alive after that?”
“She has to be alive! She wouldn’t leave me alone.” Dropping to his knees he started bawling. “Please just tell me. I won’t tell mother anything. I just need to know if she’s okay.”
Laughing amongst themselves the two watched him. “Fine you want to know...”
“Please...”
“She’s dead.”
Feeling his world crumble and start to collapse from under him, he stopped everything. Figuring he does not have a purpose anymore if she was not alive. Standing to his feet, the two froze. Confused as they watched him pace to his bed and sit down.
“Are you okay kid?”
“I’m fine, at least now I can be who I truly am.”
“Huh? Do you understand him?”
“Not really. I thought he loved her.”
“Me too. Kid, why are you so calm?”
“She wouldn’t allow me to do what I want. Didn’t want me to hurt anything. I’m free to do whatever now.” Still watching him walk over to his desk tensed. Opening the drawer, pulling out his family heirloom he was gifted. “Mother always said I was to use this when I felt it was threatened. She would understand when I tell her the guards hurt me.”
“Kid put that down. It is not to be played wi-” His words were cut short as his blood hit Heeseung’s face.
“Listen kid, you don’t need to do this.”
“But I do.” Swinging the sword through the air once more as the other body hit the floor. Dropping to the ground as well, he started crying hysterically. Feeling his soul leave he passed out.
⨶⨶⨶
Ten years have passed as the seven princes were becoming young adults. The Shadowfens still wondering what happened to their soon to be princess. All that was known was that the same night she disappeared, a blood bath occurred in the kingdom. Told simply that a deranged hunter got inside the castle. Now with the princes ranging from fifteen to nineteen soon to be twenty years old many things have changed. Especially the oldest prince. He is known as the most heartless and ruthless being to exist. Fearing even simple eye-contact with him became normal. Fearing that he would murder anything that looked his way, no one dared to initiate with him. Having heard the rumors that he went on a killing spree that dreadful night in the kingdom. The many times someone was harmed by speaking his name was worrying. Even his own family stayed beware of his presence. He was always surrounded by his brothers who were just as ruthless as him. Getting the nickname the dreadful seven for many reasons. Grimmingthorns started to become weary of what would happen when the new King was crowned. Rightly so, as it was only three months away from the coronation. Still there was no new word on where the princess was. The poor queen was caught bawling on multiple occasions. The princes were asked if any of them could remember that night, but every time it was the same answer. ‘No, we were all in our rightful rooms’. Many thought the answer did not add up to the events that were previously told by their mother. Stated on numerous occasions, that there was a hunter, and the princes were scattered throughout the castle. She answered that she cannot remember once putting the seven princes in their rooms, but in fact keeping them out of them for safety. The more their stories collided the more people started to worry. If the princes and the queen were that easy to lie about the murder of a princess how easily would they lie about another. Many believed the oldest son, Heeseung preformed the act. Guards saying that on occasion he would become too protective of the princess. Some even saying he threatened them for being close to her. Hatred was thrown onto the four oldest princes Heeseung, Jay, Jake, and Sunghoon, while pity was thrown onto the youngest. Many felt bad for the three princes that grew up in a sad city because they were so young when the event occurred. None of them answered the questions when asked because they did not know. This affected them in Charter School, which is where a lot of questioning came along. Jungwon was known as the target of most issues. Being the smallest prince led to a lot of jokes, most being that he was going to be a joke of a prince. That was until she arrived. Walking by shoving her shoulder into one of them as she walked by. Going to find her only for her to already be gone. Jungwon wanted to thank her but could never find her. None of the seven could. When the story of her broke throughout the school many believed that she was an in-school bodyguard. Denying it to be true for the very reason that all of their guards were knights. A woman was not to be allowed the position of a knight. She would always appear when she was needed as if she was summoned. When Jay almost tripped down the stairs, she grabbed his shoulder telling him to watch his step before it even occurred. When Jake was attacked by a hunter, and she saved him. When Niki was down because of the training to become a prince, she lifted his chin high telling him to get back on his feet and that he was destined for greatness. The most shocking one was when Heeseung got shot by an arrow. Witnesses saying that she treated him with no hesitation muttering something about returning a favor. Some quoting the exact phrase, “This is returning the favor. Thank you, Hee.”. No one knew what it exactly meant, but many said his face dropped at her words. All color leaving his face when the syllables hit his ears. From that day forward nobody was able to find the mysterious woman. There was no trace of her ever, no footprint, no scent, no hair, nothing. She was conned the name pretty stranger. Known only for her pretty appearance and bravery. As time got closer and closer to coronation she appeared more frequently. Puzzled people that saw her started sketching he to hand out papers with her face, hoping someone knew something. Still nothing came up on the pretty stranger.
⨕⨕⨕
“Heeseung, have you gotten one of these papers yet?”
“No, wait what paper exactly?”
“The one with her on it. They are everywhere now.”
“Oh, yes. I got three of them yesterday. Why do you ask, Jay?”
“Well, who do you think she is? I mean you know everyone in this city. How could she come from nowhere without you knowing?”
“I don’t know how she did it. May I ask you a question, Jay?”
“Go ahead.”
“Do you remember what Y/n looked like? I know you were young, but something has to have stuck with you.”
“No, no, I remember her clearly. You don’t think?”
“I do.” Staring at Heeseung for a moment, before rapidly pulling a chair out beside him. Sitting down loudly, still staring at him with wide eyes.
“Why? How? How could that be her? I thought she died that night ten years ago?”
“So much is leading back to her. Her scent is familiar, practically the same. Her eyes, they hold so much in them. They pierce into you in a different way. Her presence is dominating. She is what I would have expected Y/n to be like when she grew up.” Getting up, he ruffled his hair while pacing to the window. “Jay...do you really believe she died that day? Honestly?” Peeking over his shoulder, seeing his brother gapping like a fish a few times before dropping his head.
“I-I don’t know what I believe. Mother said that she died, but I don’t remember her ever being attacked like Mother said as well.”
“That’s because she wasn’t! She was shot! An arrow went straight threw her chest! Jay, nobody can get past those gates without being let in! Mother had to have opened those gates. She had her shot! She planned it! I saw it with my own eyes! There was no hunter! At all!”
“Calm down, Heeseung.”
“No! Mother is lying through her teeth! And you’re believing it! Everyone is believing it! They pulled me away from her Jay! Did you know that?!”
“I didn’t.”
“Exactly! Mother told me that night that it was for my own good! That she was dangerous! How?! How?! How was she dangerous?!”
Watching his brother scream as his emotions took over. Hearing footsteps as the other five came in. Stopping by Jay’s side as Heeseung let out everything that was bottled up over the past ten years. Crying, screaming, dry heaving was on the low scale of what was happening. None of them got near him because they knew of the consequences that would happen. It hurt them to watch, he was the strongest, the oldest, the brave one. He was letting every wall he had built fall. He was vulnerable, but not gullible. Most of his emotion was anger, no hatred. Aimed mostly at the woman he had to call his mother. Anything she tried to tell him, he ignored. He would sit back and watch his brothers get spoon fed lies. The only thing that she did not know, was that the boys followed their older brother over everybody. When he started showing hostility toward her so did the rest. Especially Sunoo, Jake, and Niki. The rest already had their individual reasons for not respecting her. Jay’s sprouted from constantly having to rebuild his brother because of her. Kneeling in front of his brother wrapping his arms around him, feeling him trembling. Feeling his brother shove his face into his chest, grabbing his shirt roughly. Yanking him forward a few times before slamming his fist into his chest. Wincing as he grabbed his fist. Opening Heeseung’s fist, while places his head on his shoulder. “Stop. Stop this. Don’t let her get this satisfaction. You are showing her that she is getting to you. You don’t want that.” Standing up, watching his brother slouch on his feet. “Get up. I said get the hell up! Are you weak? Do you belong on the ground?” Hearing a faint no, he repeated himself. Getting a louder response the second time, he leaned down wrapping his arms under his shoulders. Making him stand. “You don’t deserve this. Stop letting her get to you. You are stronger than her. Better than her. You are the new king.”
“But Y/n is gone. She killed her.”
“Heeseung, do you honestly believe she is dead?”
“I don’t know what I believe.” Sighing, Jay turned to his brothers. Zeroing in on Jake.
“Jake, did you meet her yet?”
“Pretty stranger? Yeah...more than once actually.”
“What did you sense from her?”
“There wasn’t anything that came up when I met her. However, there was a barrier put up.”
“What do you mean?”
“There is this block put up around us, when she gets nearby. It’s hard to describe. If I said a dome...would that make sense?” Pausing to hear some conformation, he continued. “There is a dome over us, not her. When she gets near us, there is a sense of familiarity. Our conscious recognizes her, but our brain can’t seem to remember her.”
“So you’re saying we do know her?”
“Exactly. She has history with us somewhere. Our paths have most definitely crossed at one point.”
“If we did then why can’t we remember her?”
“I already said why. Our memory was basically erased with anything that was about her.”
“Do you think it could possibly be Y/n?”
“I’m not saying yes, but it’s not impossible either. I would say to ask Heeseung because he was the closest with her, but also had the closest encounter with the pretty stranger. I don’t believe that would go well though seeing as he is a slobbering mess.”
“I’m not a mess.”
“Yeah, and we’re not princes.” Sunoo scoffed at Heeseung’s words. “Do you ever think you will get over her? This happened years ago and you’re still not over it. I get you were in love with her and all that but come on. You weren’t the only one of us that was affected. We all were. You are a selfish, mopping mess. Do you think Grimmingthorn will survive with a King like you? One that is so emotional that they break down at the mention of her name.”
“I do not break down at the mere mention of her name. Right now however, I am upset that there is a possibility of the pretty stranger being Y/n. Not her particularly, but us for not realizing it earlier. Next time you see her, stop her.”

This post is full of GoT 8x04 spoilers and GIFs!
*I’ve been working on this for two days
Initially, I thought I would write a long, drawn out post about the episode as a whole. There is a lot to discuss and I have lots of feelings about it all. I decided against it because though I am fond of most of the characters on this show, there is one, in particular, that has my heart, and I do believe I will love them for the rest of my life.
Ser Brienne of Tarth. In this potentially long, rambling post, I will discuss what she endured in this episode, and how it relates to things she’s endured in the past and how said things will affect her future. There will be heavy mentions of Ser Jaime Lannister and Braime. (Yes, I ship it, no I don’t hate him). Any GIFs used in this post are not mine, and neither are the characters because if they were, I would treat them so much better.
This episode for me, a Brienne stan, was both beautiful and heartbreaking. There were so many layers to it. Gwendoline did an immaculate job really taking us on this emotional roller coaster, and making us feel Brienne in a way we haven’t in the past. I want to talk about my experience watching the episode as a fan, and then my second watch as a writer, and as someone who has studied film and tv collegiately for six years.
Let’s start with the fact that Brienne of Tarth, First of Her Name, Keeper of Oaths, Defeater of The Hound, Protector of the Stark Daughters, Wielder of Oathkeeper, and Knight of the Seven Kingdoms survived the Great War! Not going to lie, I was very concerned for my Amazonian Warrior, but she prevailed.
We have never seen Brienne as carefree and relaxed as we saw her this episode. Her guard was down, she was enjoying herself, drinking and bonding, celebrating life because she faced death and survived. Not only did she live, but her crew survived alongside her. I must say, I enjoy tipsy Brienne. I truly do.
It was beautiful to watch, truly. Her enthusiasm was so open and free. I was hype AF because: look at Brienne, living her best life just being chill! Ugh! I was teary-eyed. The bonding that occurred was beautiful. Podrick looked amused the entire time. Tyrion watched Jaime stare at Brienne with this knowing look on his face. The entire feast scene was just...*le sigh*
I would be remiss to ignore that it was Ser Jaime, the idiot, who helped pull her out of her shell, and that says a lot. The comfort level here, the heart eyes, the whole thing. He basically tells her it’s all right to just let loose.
Let’s discuss the drinking game, shall we?
Jaime: Um.... You are an only child.
Brienne: *pause with a smirk* I told you I was.
Jaime: You didn’t.
Brienne: I did!
Jaime: I surmised it.
Tyrion: Drink! .....Go again.
Brienne: Why does he get to go again?
Tyrion: Because it’s my game.
Jaime: You have danced with Renly Baratheon
Brienne: *looks at Podrick*
Podrick: *smiles drunkenly*
Tyrion: Drink!
Gah! How dare they flirt so openly, just blatant about it! He said these things confidently. He knew he was right and he was so happy that she was playing along. My poor shipper heart was soaring. Then Tyrion had to go and be...well Tyrion. Stating Brienne was a virgin was a shock to my system. Like...yes asshole we know this but we don’t bring attention to it. She completely closed up and I was like “dammit, Tyrion!” Though I understand that he was trying to push along the inevitable but look here sir, subtly is nice dammit!! Ser Brienne of Tarth was NOT here for this bullshit.
“I have to piss” will forever be what I say from this day forward when I don’t want to answer some shit. The look in her eyes, even though she was uncomfortable, says a lot. So many things and Jaime knew exactly what needed to be done. He’s watched her leave multiple times. She’s left him riding a horse, she’s walked out of his tent, she was in a rowboat, on foot in the snow.... He finally decided he wasn’t going to do it anymore....with a little help from Tyrion. Let’s be honest, Tyrion knew what was going on back in 8x02 when Jaime was staring lovingly at Brienne, and then before the knighting scene when Jaime very nearly jumped from his chair to greet her. But I digress....
Let me just say this moment had me cackling. Tormund just knew he was going to follow the big woman and they were going to celebrate life together. And here comes Ser Jaime, throwing a golden hand in his plans. Jaime tapping Tormund twice before going off to follow Brienne with his little ‘nice try’ squint. It was so, just, I have no words. We see a little of jealous Jaime here. There has been the back and forth but we all know Tormund doesn’t stand a chance, it’s in this moment when Tormund realizes that he has lost.
Tyrion pouring his wine into Tormund’s horn while holding eye contact the entire time was another nail in the coffin. Poor guy. He just wanted to make giant babies with Brienne. Pod’s drunken smile was just amusing as hell. He was like my parents ‘Ser Jaime and Ser Brienne are finally going to consummate their 5-year relationship’. This entire sequence was absolutely hysterical. Also, the fact that Brienne had no idea of what happens between Tormund and Jaime. When she turns all she sees is Jaime in pursuit and she lengthens her stride because it’s just a bit much for her. I think she knew here, what was bound to happen and I think it scared her a little.
When I saw Oathkeeper I knew it was about to go down. I thought I was prepared but I was not. So let’s hop into this:
Brienne is tending to her fire. No longer is she in leathers. Just her undershirt and pants. Sometimes I forget how gloriously tall she is. There is a knock at the door and though she hesitates for a moment she opens it, without asking who it is. Is that a thing you do in Winterfell? Open your door late at night in your undershirt without inquiring who is on the other side?
Can we talk about Jaime’s exhale? He’s like,” welp we’re here now. I knocked. She answered. No turning back.” It’s all there on his face. How long did it take him to gather up the courage to knock? She’s no longer in her leathers. She had time to remove them. Set them aside and tend to the fire. How long was Jaime giving himself a pep talk? Trying to figure out how he was going to do approach her, approach them and the next step in their very complicated relationship.
She isn’t surprised to see him. She doesn’t ask why he’s there she just opens the door and holds his eye, waiting. Had she been waiting? She saw him when he was coming after her. She knew he was following her. Could that be why his presence didn’t surprise her? I’m going to say yes.
J: You didn’t drink.
B: *confused* I didn’t drink?
J: In the game.
B: *More confused* I drank.
J: *adamantly* In the game! ....this is Dornish
B:This is not the game. This is only drinking.
J:Suit Yourself.
B: *drinks*
J: You keep it warm enough in here.
B: *shy and a bit reserved* It’s the first thing I learnt when I came to the North. Keep your fire going. Every time you leave the room, put more wood on.
J: *assholely* That’s very diligent. Very responisble.
B: *sick of his shit* Piss off.
J: You know the first thing I learn in the North? I hate the fucking North.
B: *amused* It grows on you.
J: I don’t want things growing on me
I couldn’t find GIFs of this moment, I know they are out there, I was just impatient and didn’t want to scroll through the different tags to find them. So we start this scene with Jaime seeming a little drunk and insistent on Brienne drinking to prove something he already knows and she knows that he already knows. To Brienne’s credit, she deals with his weird approach to the elephant in the room quite well. It’s very honest to who they’ve been since they met each other. The banter is genuine, Jaime being an asshole, Brienne being sick of his shit, it’s perfect.
B: *amused* It grows on you.
J: I don’t want things growing on me
I thought it was very obvious that when Brienne says this, with a little twinkle in her eye and a smirk that she means him. Or maybe I’m overthinking it..... As for Ser Jaime....IT’S TOO FUCKING LATE, SHE’S ALREADY GROWN ON YOU! He’s such an asshole. I swear.
Brienne’s ‘bitch please’ look in the second GIF has me weak. Jaime knew damn well that Brienne did not want Tormund. SN: I don’t dislike Tormund, I think he’s great. Not only is she mildly annoyed that he asked her that, but she also calls him on his shit! That was a pretty ballsy thing for her to do. There was no guarantee that Jaime was going to respond favorably. It could have been a moment of embarrassing rejection, but she did it anyway. She’s experienced men being horrible to her in the past, but she trusts him. She also knew that she was right. It doesn’t matter that she’s inexperienced. And it wasn’t an accusation just a statement of very obvious fact. She doesn’t raise her voice, it’s barely above a whisper. She almost loses her nerve at the end. Although she trusts him, there is some trepidation there. He’s known to insult her, though they’ve become less acidic as time has gone on.
Jaime agreeing with her is interesting because he almost seems surprised by his jealousy. As if he honestly didn’t know it was there, but he sees no point in denying it once it’s out in the open. He almost makes light of it. He’s cared for her for years. He armed her. Armoured her. Saved her. (multiple times). He loves her, and maybe at that moment, it hits him that he can’t hide it or run from it.
It’s bloody hot in here.
Jaime is by far the worst flirt in Westeros. ‘It’s bloody hot in here.” Really? It’s almost like things were getting too real. He had to lighten the mood and make it, easy, simple. Brienne’s confusion as he fiddles with the knot on his shirt is so precious and endearing. You can see the wheels in her head just turning. She’s running through scenarios, she’s planning, she’s trying to decide where this will go. What should happen when she makes the decision, she takes a page out of Jaime’s book. It’s not tender or sweet, but it’s very them. It’s reminiscent of her stabbing his ham so that he could cut it back in season 3. This moment is very powerful. It’s the first step towards her deciding this is what she wants, though she’s very matter-of-fact about it. Jaime’s intentions were relatively clear upon his arrival, but this is the beginning of Brienne deciding that she wants to do this. That she wants to give herself to this man.
Can we just take a damn minute and admire this tenderness!! This is in direct contrast with her shoving his hand away. She’s very stoic, almost business-like as she goes about untying his shirt, but when Jaime reaches for the knot on her shirt, real smooth Jaime, everything stops. It’s sweet the way she holds his fingers as they stare into each other’s eyes. As she makes the final discussion.
I’m so in love with the fact that they are topless before anything happens. And kudos to Jaime for keeping his eyes on Brienne’s face for the most part. Unlike the bath scene in season 3. SN: WHERE IS BRIENNE’S SCAR?!?!?!?
Jaime ‘I’m a Dork’ Lannister, you’ve never been with anyone that isn’t Cersi before. What are you talking about?!?! I can’t lie, I thought it was cute. Fuck it, I thought it was adorable. And Brienne’s honesty here was so refreshing. I really appreciated the honesty from both of them in that moment. There are nerves swarming all around them, but they trust each other. It’s a big deal that they are doing this for both of them. Jaime has never experienced a non-toxic sexual experience. All of the times we see twincest, it’s aggressive and awkward, it’s fast and hard. There are no gentle caresses or loving looks and it’s usually forced consent.
For Brienne, she has never allowed herself to be in any scenario remotely close to that moment. This is a woman who slept in armour to protect herself. This is a woman who was ridiculed by multiple men, who was constantly called ugly, who was deemed undesirable. She was pretty much stripped of her femininity, and she fell hard into her role as a fighter, a warrior. But then Jaime came along. And he is handsome and highborn, and he loves her. He wants her.
I think this was the perfect first kiss for Ser Brienne and Ser Jaime. Please @ me! It’s honest. It’s awkward. It’s sweet. His eyes are open initially, he wants to see her. HE HAS TO GO UP ON HIS TIPPY TOES TO KISS HER! It’s so fucking cute. She’s supposed to be overexcited. This has never happened to her before, and she doesn’t know what she’s doing, but she wants it. And she came to terms with that fact. It’s perfect for them as a pairing. They’re like teenagers, fumbling around trying to figure what feels good. It’s sweet and innocent and wonderful.
I love Jaime’s hand on her neck then her hair. It’s simple but it’s grounding them in the moment. There is a push and pull happening that mirrors their relationship. Jaime initiates the kiss and it takes Brienne by surprise. She stumbles a little but she’s not one to be outdone so she pushes back. And it’s not perfect but it’s honest and pure. Dammit I love them.
I love the quiet moment of Jaime watching Brienne sleep. He looks pensive. His mind is working overtime. This is a big deal to him. This honorable woman gifted him with her womanhood. She trusted him. HIM. Of all people. He who is far from perfect. Brienne is too pure for this world, but she loves him and wants him. He can’t believe it.
I don’t have a ton to say about this, but Sansa knows, and I think that’s interesting. I want to know how much time has passed. How long has it been since OathSex? Brienne is so bashful and it’s so fucking cute. It’s ok Brienne, there’s nothing wrong with what you did!
Tyrion is such a dirty old man. I love how the relationship between Tyrion and Jaime has grown. They love each other so much, and it’s so obvious. It made me so happy to see their bond survive Tyrion killing their father. I love Tyrion for not bring up Cersei when he finds out. He does what is expected, he cracks a joke. It’s very telling that Jaime did not want to discuss Brienne with his brother. Yes, he loves Tyrion but Brienne is off limits.
So, going into the final three Braime scenes, I’m going to switch gears and really delve into what is happening without fangirling.
Jaime finding out that Cersei ambushed Daenarys burst the bubble he’d been in with Brienne. It started with Bronn showing up with a crossbow, telling the Lannister brothers that Cersi wants them dead. He knew that Cersei was displeased with him leaving but I think he was genuinely surprised that she sent someone to kill him. That weighs heavy on him because if there is a price on his head, then that puts Brienne in danger. And he would never be able to forgive himself if something happened to her because of him. When he learns about the ambush, I truly believe that is when the decision was made.
He doesn’t want to leave. He’s hoping that she doesn’t wake up, and I’m of the belief that they made love before that night. He doesn’t want to have to say goodbye to her. It’s selfish and infuriating, but he doesn’t know if he’s strong enough to say goodbye, and that becomes blatantly obvious when Brienne comes outside.
He doesn’t look at her. Not because he doesn’t love her. Not because he doesn’t respect her. Because he can’t. He can’t look at her. Looking at her means looking at the woman he loves and seeing what his departure is doing to her.
B: They’re going to destroy that city. You know they will.
J: Have you ever run away from a fight.
I think it’s worth it to mention that he doesn’t mention Cersei. He asks “have you ever run away from a fight?” It’s easy for this to get lost in this horrendously heartbreaking moment, but it starts with him acknowledging that there is a fight that he needs to be a part of. He’s also showing how highly he thinks of her. She doesn’t run away from fights. He feels like a coward, hiding out in King’s Landing. But deeper than that, he feels compelled by honor.
There is so much happening in this moment. Jaime was not prepared for the intimacy of it. Brienne grabs his face, and makes him look at her, and he is putty for a moment. There are so many emotions on his face as she tells him that he’s not like his sister, and that he’s a good man, and that he should stay with her. He aspires to be as honorable as she is. She has validated him on multiple occasions, and every time he is in awe and this moment is no different. His eyes shine with tears, he does not want to do it. It pains him to hear her like this. He’s never had to hurt her and you can see that her outpour of emotions really affect him. Her insecurities surface and she believes he’s leaving her to go back to Cersei. He uses it.
This is not a man that wants to leave a woman. His subtle nod as she tells him he’s a good man and asks him to stay. Jaime has always been nonverbally expressive. He strokes her hand gentle, savoring the feel of her before he has to break her heart.
You think I’m a good man? I pushed a boy out a tower window, crippled him for life for Cersei. I strangled my cousin with my own hands, just to get back to Cersei. I would have murdered every man, woman and child in Riverrun for Cersei.
*painful eye contact*
She’s hateful and so am I
It’s so telling that he mentions Riverrun. He says he would have killed every man, woman and child for Cersei, but he leaves out when he didn’t. He neglects to mention that Brienne showing up in the middle of his camp during a siege changed everything. He was surprised to see her, but he is also pleased to see her. If we’re being honest he’s always pleased to see her. But her arrival really made him change his intentions.
Riverrun was the first time that he went against Cersei for Brienne. It’s when he, in his own way, tells her he loves her.
It’s where he lets her go when he had every right to apprehend her. It’s where he puts Brienne above politics. It’s where Cersei starts to lose him. It’s subtle, but in letting Brienne attempt to gain forces/troops for Sansa, who would in turn attempt to take Winterfell back from the Boltons, which was given to them by Walder Frey who was a bannerman for the Lannisters. It’s when he, unbeknownst to himself maybe, chooses Brienne over his family. It’s there that it’s clear what he feels for her and what she feels for him.
It’s because of all of this, that Brienne’s emotions erupt at the mention of Riverrun. She knows what happened there and what could’ve happened there. She knows she stopped hundreds of men from being slaughtered needlessly. She knows.
There is so much self-loathing rolling off of Jaime in waves. He’s struggling with feeling like he’s not enough. He doesn’t think he deserves her, but he wants her. But he has to finish it. It must be him.
She can’t stop him. He’s going to King’s Landing and he’s going to try and stop Cersei. He’s going to do it because he didn’t do it years ago. He’s going because he did push a boy from a tower window. Because he did strangle his own cousin. He’s going because the one time he stood up to her was because of the woman standing in front of him. And he knows Ser Brienne of Tarth will not be safe as long as Cersei has power. He can’t stay. He can’t stay because the moments of happiness that they have are fleeting. Daeny has lost half her army and another dragon. The scales are not balanced and he can’t sit back and wait.
Have you ever run from a fight?
He’s going to fight for what important to him now and he doesn’t know if he’ll be successful but he knows he has to try.
Brienne showed such strength. She has allowed herself to be open and vulnerable. She’s allowed Jaime into her life, she gave herself to him, she loves him and he’s going off on a suicide mission. She doesn’t want him to leave. She’s scared for him. If Cersei’s army can kill a dragon what will happen to Jaime? It was so incredibly brave for her to even go and pursue him. She’s fought a bear, she fought the Hound, she fought the army of the undead, but this is a fight she isn’t equipped to fight. She’s watched one man that she loves die and it nearly broke her. She would never forgive herself if something happens to Jaime.
This scene was comprised of two people who love each other showing each other how deep that love runs. Sacrificing theif life (Jaime) and Pride (Brienne) in order to protect the other. I honestly think the message was received on both ends.
This is a man that loves a woman and he’s going to fight for that love and for that woman.
I have no insight into what D&D are doing but I can only hope that they didn’t take Jaime on such a beautiful character arc to throw it away. I hope that they will not perpetuate the “hot guys sleeps with not hot girl” trope. I hope that we as viewers aren’t going to fall victim to character assassination and lazy writing. More than anything, I hope Brienne and Jaime meet again so she can punch him in the face and then help off the ground once he falls. (much like Yara did Theon)

TV Shows People MUST Checkout (Including Google Overviews.)
It’s just facts 🤷♀️
WARNINGS! Please note that some of these shows involve nudity, sexual scenes, violence and other mature themes that aren’t for everybody! (Red text)
-Downton Abbey (I love this series, every character, plot, and scene is always a masterpiece.) This historical drama follows the lives of the Crawley family and their servants in the family's Edwardian country house. The programme begins with the 1912 sinking of the Titanic, which leaves Downton Abbey's future in jeopardy, as Lord Grantham's presumptive heir -- his cousin James -- and his son, Patrick, die aboard the ship, leaving him without a male offspring to take over the throne upon his death. As a result, Lord Grantham must search for a new heir. As the programme progresses through the decade, other historical events happen leading up to Lord Grantham declaring in 1914 that Britain is at war with Germany, marking the beginning of World War I, which becomes a major plot on the programme. Does deal with difficult topics!
-Outlander (I actually just started this one but I’m really enjoying it.) After serving as a British Army nurse in World War II, Claire Randall is enjoying a second honeymoon in Scotland with husband Frank, an MI6 officer looking forward to a new career as an Oxford historian. Suddenly, Claire is transported to 1743 and into a mysterious world where her freedom and life are threatened. To survive, she marries Jamie Fraser, a strapping Scots warrior with a complicated past and a disarming sense of humour. A passionate relationship ensues, and Claire is caught between two vastly different men in two inharmonious lives. `Outlander' is adapted from the best-selling books by Diana Gabaldon. Maturity Warning! This show contains vivid violence and sexual scenes! GRAPHIC!
-Game Of Thrones (Lets be real everybody and their mother knows the existence of this series but just in case you hadn’t here it is. This series is my personal favorite regardless of the disaster that was the last season. Honestly everything until that point I loved, I watched it all in a month) George R.R. Martin's best-selling book series "A Song of Ice and Fire" is brought to the screen as HBO sinks its considerable storytelling teeth into the medieval fantasy epic. It's the depiction of two powerful families -- kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars and honest men -- playing a deadly game for control of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, and to sit atop the Iron Throne. Martin is credited as a co-executive producer and one of the writers for the series, whose shooting locations include Northern Ireland, Malta, Croatia and Spain. (Way more families are involved, but okay google.) Maturity Warning! This show contains vivid violence and sexual scenes! GRAPHIC!
-Anne with an E (SO underrated! Very good though!) This reimagining of the classic book and film is a coming-of-age story about a young orphan who is seeking love, acceptance and her place in the world. Amybeth McNulty stars as Anne, a 13-year-old who has endured an abusive childhood in orphanages and the homes of strangers. In the late 1890s, Anne is mistakenly sent to live with aging siblings, Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert, who live on Prince Edward Island. Anne, who proves to be uniquely spirited, imaginative and smart, transforms the lives of Marilla, Matthew and everyone else in their small town.
-Glee (It’s just good folks, a very enjoyable show up until season 5 personally.) Optimistic teacher Will Schuester heads up McKinley High School's glee club -- New Directions -- a place where ambitious and talented students can find strength, acceptance and their voice. As the students find themselves, they also enjoy a respite from the harsh realities of life. Mr. Schuester hopes to help the kids in every way he can, and also dreams of taking the group to nationals. As Schuester and the glee club pursue their goal, they face opposition from a conniving cheerleading coach, Sue Sylvester, who tries to sabotage the group at every turn.
-Stranger Things (At this point if you haven’t seen it I’m shocked. I will say I wasn’t a huge fan of season 1, and questioned if I should continue, but I assure you the next two seasons were great. If you were kinda like me and not into the first season, I’d highly recommend to keep going as I loved it. Season 1 had to world build. I won’t insert a overview because the overview is for season 2, so I’d just head to Netflix and read what season 1 is all about.)
-Jane the Virgin (I haven’t completed it but the story is overall compelling and I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.) The daughter of a teen mother, Jane Villanueva grew up determined not to repeat her mom's mistakes. At 23, her life is on track; Jane is studying to be a teacher and engaged to a handsome detective who supports her decision to remain a virgin until marriage. Then a routine clinic visit flips her life upside down. Inseminated by a specimen meant for a patient in the next room, now-pregnant Jane is in a situation made only more insane when she learns that the sperm donor is her boss, Rafael. As her meticulously planned life gets more like the telenovelas she loves, she faces a lot of complicated decisions about where to go from here.
-Lucifer (If none of these peak your interest, please atleast check this one out. It’s just. So good. It’s something that anyone can get enjoyment out of. ) Based on characters created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg, this series follows Lucifer, the original fallen angel, who has become dissatisfied with his life in hell. After abandoning his throne and retiring to Los Angeles, Lucifer indulges in his favorite things (women, wine and song) -- until a murder takes place outside of his upscale nightclub. For the first time in billions of years, the murder awakens something unfamiliar in Lucifer's soul that is eerily similar to compassion and sympathy. Lucifer is faced with another surprise when he meets an intriguing homicide detective named Chloe, who appears to possess an inherent goodness -- unlike the worst of humanity, to which he is accustomed. Suddenly, Lucifer starts to wonder if there is hope for his soul.

Game of Thrones – A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms - 8x02 episode analysis (kind of)
…or the episode we should have gotten last week.
And we’re back! I am not here to shit on last week’s episode I actually enjoyed it very much, if you just take it for what it was, but! I cannot help but remark how much better episode 2 has been to us… the writing was very very good and rich, and in character, and it finally feels like GoT and… I honestly don’t know what happened in episode 1. But moving on…
As you can already tell, this is going to my personal summary, thoughts and analysis of episode 02 of season 8. Going to put it all under a cut – spoilers, you have been warned.
Are you an Oathkeeper or on Oathbreaker? Or the Jaime Fucking Lannister Fest
Listen I am not calling this a trial, because it is not. Yes I know they call it a trial in the BTS and Inside the episode.
Dany’s speech about Jaime’s deeds against House Targaryen is very good. As I have mentioned in my preview analysis, this is the first time (third time is a charm ha) that Jaime and Dany speak to one another. She doesn’t know this man. This man tried to kill her and he killed her father.
I got right half of the stuff at least, for what it’s worth. Tyrion looks soooo sooo bad. LIKE YOU KNEW YOUR SISTER? Oh the glare!!! If looks could kill, Tyrion would be dust. LiStEn, Tyrion, honey. Sit down. Jeez, read the room, you are not making it better. Dany is right - why should she trust this man? And Sansa is right there with her… until Brienne speaks.
Gwen called Brienne’s speech something “almost like a declaration of love” and I think that is so beautiful it hurts. Not a Braime fan, but hey you got fed fam, I am happy for you! I already mentioned in my live blogging that it was either incoherent or just plain retcon to forget that Sansa sent Brienne to KL because she thought Brienne would kill her if it meant a showdown with Arya. But I digress.
I find it very interesting how Jaime didn’t apologise and his cojones to say so because “we were at war” - and I get it, my dude, Ser Hot Stuff, we all know all is fair in love and war, but I guess it would be ooc for him to apologise. Great delivery, I don’t particularly like NCW but this scene? Top notch. I rate it one doggy style fuck out of one, but so good your legs are wobbly and you can barely find the energy to plop on your bed afterwards.
The things we do for love… and Bran is back with the fucking shit stirring drama. We stan Bran Starkashian.
I find it interesting since this is also Dany’s chance to show how she rules - Lady Sansa says her opinion, which surprises Dany. Then she turns to Jon, who the entire time has been very very quiet. Like the kind of quiet you are when you have the biggest hangover and you are stuck in class and you just want it to be over with. So Jon says what he could say to get the fuck out of there. “We need every man we can get.” So Jaime is given his sword back after Grey Worm literally gives him the I AM WATCHING YOU BITCH glare.
But Jon’s chair is not facing forward, it is slightly oriented towards Dany’s. Notice how he doesn’t look at her, even when she addresses him directly. She gets up and everyone does so afterwards FINALLY SOME FUCKING RESPECT and she turns to Jon… and he doesn’t even look at her… and my baby looks heartbroken because he just ignores her *coughs* As soon as the meeting ended, he rushed out, not giving her a chance to say a word. *coughs*
In defence of Jon… Know what, we’ll talk about Jon later, when we get to the reveal.
Oh and Bran totes doesn’t care about Jaime enough to expose him in front of the entire Great Hall. Because ya know, he is a drama queen, but he keeps his cards close, he either already has a plan for Jaime or as he said, and as I have predicted from the preview, it serves no purpose to expose Jaime for what he did to Bran. Like just click on it and read it. Good that Bran called him out on his apology naaah bitch you don’t get to go holier than thou here. It is what it is.
Me at Bran this episode:
Jaime and Tyrion’s conversation is very interesting, not only about Dany in general whether she is worthy or not, and Tyrion seems to be team Dany. Was it just me or Tyrion more like whispered the part where he talks about Cersei’s baby. Also also listen Jaime, unless you’re suddenly a gynaecologist how the fuck do you know she is not lying? I loved how Tyrion called Jaime out on the fact that he loved Cersei despite knowing full well what and who she was. Dude let’s call it what it was. Don’t play coy now.
Ding ding ding Tyrion mentions marching to KL and killing Cersei … and that’s all I am gonna say about it.
Jaime x Brienne wow this ship is getting so fed - enjoy babies ! And I loved how Brienne was suddenly WHY ARENT YOU INSULTING ME I DONT KNOW HOW TO INTERACT TO YOU !!!! Brienne is leading the left flank and Jaime wants to be led by her. Keep in mind for next week’s episode! I am so proud of my son Pod, I am basically proudmom!Brienne tbh.
The episode in which Dany gets a lot of counsel - because that’s also the type of ruler she is
Tyrion x Varys x Jorah vs Dany - Dany gives the best scolding ever tbh. Moms, take notes, because look at Tyrion’s face. He knows this Christmas when the NK comes he will only get coal. No whores and wine for Tyrion. He was naughty boy.
KHALESSI - Listen. I don’t like Jorah in the books, and my impression of show!Jorah has always been tainted by it. But this Jorah is redeemed and deserves to live I WILL RIOT IF HE DIES. The scene he has with Dany is one of my favourites because it just shows how much history they have together. I will sob if he dies because he is the only one left from S1E01 with her. Jorah tells her to forgive Tyrion and seek out S.ansa to smooth things over. MY BEAR
S.ansa x Daenerys - First time I thought it was going well, they were bonding… and then S.ansa leaned forward and the hand placing seemed a bit too deliberate to me, too Margaery. What I am trying to say is that it is very hard to know if S.ansa is being genuine. It is a very good scene and it holds a lot of importance later on, more on that when I talk about the reveal in the last scene (and I this is what I wanted from episode 1 - cold but courteous.)
S.ansa tells Dany Jon loves her and that “men do stupid things for the women they love, they’re easily manipulated” - which, fair point; she saw Cersei and Margaery do it. Buuuut she also had the counter-argument: she saw how Littlefinger manipulated her aunt. So it goes both ways, bby.
“All my life I have known one goal: the Iron Throne […] until I met Jon
INTERRUPTING THIS PROGRAMME TO FLAIL BECAUSE HOLY SHIT WE FINALLY HEAR DANY CALL HIM “JON” ON SCREEN YES YES FUCKING FINALLY THANK YOU BABY JESUS AND MARY AND THE ENTIRE TEAM OF 12 APOSTLES
“Now I am here, half a world away, fighting Jon’s war alongside him. Tell me, who manipulated whom?” - I love how Dany turns the tables here, because she is right; if Dany was manipulating Jon, then how come she is the one here, fighting with all her men and resources and dragons? Who gains from this more? SEE S.ANSA IT MAKES NO FUCKING SENSE IF YOU WOULD HAVE BEEN-
FINALLY SOME GOOD FUCKING CONTENT.
Then S.ansa goes for that smile ugh and agaaaain I am having soooo much trouble taking it for genuine.
“I am here because I love your brother and I trust him and I know he is true to his word […]” I AM DEAD DEAD DEAD
And then it goes to shite because S.ansa is now clearly drawing inspiration from Theresa fucking May since she has no fucking skills to bring up Brexit - is it Nexit? Dany retreating her hands tho - she feels played LIKE REALLY BITCH I WAS SPEAKING FROM MY HEART AND YOU WERE JUST BUYING TIME HERE.
Theonsa everywhere - or the ship you never thought would happen in this show yet you can’t help but ship it
That hug!!!! Wow I loved it!!! Sophie and Alfie killed it. Also watch Dany in the background - my baby!!! Do you know how hard it is being around people with big families when you’re… alone? It’s fucking depressing, and I just want to hug Dany and carry her to safety.
We got 3 Theonsa moments (and one was a Jonerys parallel so you know the romantic undertones are strong) in this episode soooo yeah! Enjoy! I am afraid they are setting Theon up to die, especially since it would be poetic cinema.jpeg for him to die defending Bran after he took WF from him.
Also also feels like book!Theon and show!Theon are colliding again.
The Merry Men and the Night’s Watch leftovers ; and Ghost for 3 seconds - you’re welcome ; the Hound and Beric; Missandei and Grey Worm
Tormund calling Jon “little crow” was fucking everything! did you catch Jon’s smile??? Precious baby!!! And then asking about Brienne!!!! But did you catch Jon’s face when he saw Sam was also there - like ugh you again - BYE
Missandei x Grey - one of them is totally dead BYE I AM GONNA FLUNG MYSELF OUT THE WINDOW
Sam x Jon on the battlements - ugh Sam really you are looking soooooo bad right now. Jon’s face is again precious. He is so over Sam atm and he is just like WHEN WILL THE NK COME FOR ME BECAUSE IF I HAVE TO STAY ONE MORE SECOND WITH THIS BITCH ISTG– Then I got emo when Edd came up. Damn. Watch Edd die too… I feel it in mah bones. That’s how the last of the NW dies.
Arya x The Hound - I get soooo many dad feels from the Hound tbh and I love it. My guess the Hound makes it. Beric tho??? hmmm Idk about that.
Tormund is fucking insane and I love him
THE BRIENNE KNIGHTING WAS EVERYTHING AND I CANT EVEN LOOK AT THE GIFS WITHOUT SOBBING MAH HEART - also!!! Dunk and Egg reference - Brienne parallel?? And the title of the episode! ugh Summerhall references? BRIENNE DO NOT DIE
Sam gives Jorah Heartsbane - Good. It’s what Jorah deserves. *pushes Sam out of the shot*
Pod singing Jenny’s Song is tearing me apart and making me sob harder I FUCKING LOST IT AND I AM STILL GETTING CHILLS YALL THIS WAS FUN. SEEMS EVERYONE DIES. No, I jest. But I love how they paired up the couples for a tragic love song - Brienne x Jaime, Sam x Gilly, S.ansa x Theon, Arya x Gendry, Missandei x Greyworm, Jon x Dany. I wouldn’t look too much into the song choice tbh, since in Inside the episode they say they knew they wanted a song and they just picked this one and added more verses since it was incomplete. I know this is the second Summerhall reference, but ya know, I personally wouldn’t look too much into it. Edit: I should have never trusted D&D - now go read these amazing posts made by @tomakeitbeautifultolive in which she explains the song and the significance for Jonerys. Also Ramin Djawadi spoke about the song and fed our fandom just today (April 25th).
The War Council or let’s gather around Bran Starkashian so he can spill some tea on the NK
Plan sounds basic imo, not that I had expected much about that, but in Miguel we trust and we know he will absolutely crash this battle in episode 3.
Interesting how the casually dropped that apparently the NK’s goal is to destroy Bran. And the mention of the mark - so now basically Bran is chipped. Cool beans. Sam’s remark about “death is forgetting, being forgotten is very interesting. Memories don’t come from books, your stories aren’t just stories.” - interesting take here. I Sam writing the book about Jonerys? If so I am afraid he has A FUCKING BIAS OMG I AM GETTING HEATED AGAIN. Also my friend @iane-casey was totally annoyed how much screen time Sam got which honestly same dude I am still pissed at you *joins Jon to brood and glare at Sam*
Dany publicly makes a point in that she still needs Tyrion aka he is forgiven so that there is no bad blood between them.
Lmao my friend @zavocado says we should totes just tape Bran to Drogon’s belly and lure the NK away from WF *grabs the duct-tape*
FINALLY A MAP: listen, they are outnumbered as fuuuuck… besides that it is clear that Dany’s forces will get the most hit since they are in the vanguard, Birenne on the left with the Knights of the Vale and some Stark forces, on the right we get the rest of the North, and the Mormonts are inside the gates!
Jon walks on Dany a second time - Dany stops as the room clears out (Qhono and Jorah and Varys behind her), looks expectandly at Jon, he doesn’t look at her (MY BABY BOY HE LOOKS SO ROUGH DID HE EVEN SLEEP?), falters “Your Grace”, and bolts. She falters, her face is all WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING and she clears the room too. More on that at the end.
Gendrya or the OTP you did not know you need and why you fucking need it
First of all, this fandom is so pure. I loooooved all the Gendrya on my dash from episode 1 and then this episode I got flooded and I am here for it bitch. Give me all the feels.
I cannot wait to see Arya with her new weapon!!!
GENDRY IS SO SHOOKETH BY ARYA AND I LOVED THAT SHE TOPPED HIM
I HAVE A SON YOU HAVE A DAUGHTER LET’S JOIN OUR HOUSES
The gendrya - jonerys parallels??? EVERYTHING JUST WOW
Jonerys parentage reveal 2.0 or the reveal Jon also deserved not the travesty he got
I will do a play by play of the scene, but first. Why does Jon avoid Dany? Simple. He is hurting. Since we get the Jaime vs Bran stare down and then we get the Jaime trial, it is safe to assume that happens the morning after Sam blurted the truth to Jon about his mom and dad.
So at Jaime’s fake trial, Jon had what? A few hours at best to process everything - and by that I mean: Dany is his aunt; Ned lied to him his entire life (no matter the reason, Jon has been raised a certain way and to hear the man who was so honourable was capable of the biggest lie in the realm… das huge! so this is shocking his entire moral compass and belief system built upon the education his dad gave him); his dad actually loved his mom and married her so he is no longer a bastard - ya know aka the thing that affected his entire life and the thing he wanted most; his mom died giving birth to him and she managed to think of him in her last moments, enough to make Ned promise her he will take care of her son; the fact that if Robert even caught a whiff of it, he would have been dead. SO that is a LOT LOT.
Which explains why Jon was so out of it when he is asked about Jaime. Also explains why he bolts out of the room without looking at Dany - I think if he had even so much as looked at her he would have broken down. He isn’t ready for it.
Oh the stuff I mentioned he had to come to terms with? On top of all of it we must add the stress of finding a way of telling all of this to Dany in a way that he doesn’t hurt her. Also I bet your ass he thought there was a chance she may not believe him (he himself did not in the beginning)… and a chance she may think he wants the throne since Sam drilled this into his head so now he is afraid of that too.
So when Jon is in the war room he had what? around 12 hours in total since Sam told him? 15? 20? Do you think that’s enough? Because I don’t. But this time he is doing much better. So he is still not looking at Dany, but he addressed her “Your Grace” and leaves - which means he is already in a better place than where he was in the morning, but not quite there yet.
This is good angst. We should rejoice, it will hurt before it gets better.
Moving on. Why didn’t he just directly go to Dany? I honestly don’t think it’s in Jon’s character to seek out comfort. This is a kid who had no one to go to when he would hurt himself. That shit stays with you. You don’t just flip a switch and start seeking out your other half. No, in moments of stress the brain reverts to things it knows bets, to muscle memory and old habits; it uses the energy to overthink itself to death so ain’t nobody got time for that new behaviours shit. At this point jonerys have been together for how long? 3? 4 weeks? That’s not that much. They are used to each other, but not enough to break old habits and past traumas.
Now, the reveal:
Dany stops, silently asking permission before she approaches Jon. Poor bean must be a bit hurt that he avoided her twice, so better make sure he actually wants her company. Jon actually smiles at her, even if it is a sad smile. It kills me how he is just staring at him mom’s statue. KILLS ME. Only then, she approaches him (look at her face, brief relief!). She stops next to him, he turns to her and nods, and only THEN SHE EMBRACES HIS SIDE, HOLDING HIS HANDS, CHIN TO HIS SHOULDER.
“Who is that?”
“Lyanna Stark.” Jon eventually says
Dany looks a bit like oh… shit, again my family yikes… I would say she looks apologetic. “My brother Rhaegar, everyone told me he was decent and kind. He liked to sing. Gave money to poor children. And he raped her” - ok but this is big, because Dany just in S7 recognised her own rape… So no wonder her opinion on Rhaegar is not that good atm.
“He didn’t”
Dany looks shook, but she is still holding onto Jon. Notice how his hand is on hers?
“He loved her.”
She doesn’t interrupt. Jon almost looks like he is feeling brave, so he keeps her hand into his and turns to face her.
“They were married in secret. After Rhaegar fell on the Trident, she had a son. Robert would have murdered the baby if he ever found out and Lyanna knew it.”
Dany is surpised, but so far so good. Jon stares into her eyes.
“So the last thing she did as she bled to death on her birthing bed was give the boy to her brother” – camera on Emilia — oh shit for a split second it starts to show that she is putting two and two together – “Ned Stark” – her eyes widen and she blinks – “to raise as his bastard” – she exhales, breathing accelerates – “My name,” – breathing heavily on her part – “my real name” -- she looks incredulous and nods a smal no – “is Aegon Targaryen” – she blinks, exhales, puls away her hand and turn halfway away from Jon.
She looks away, then at him, he is almost leaning over her but still too far. “That’s impossible.”
Camera on Jonerys
“I wish it were.” (SEE THIS IS WHAT I AM SAYING MY POOR SON)
“Who told you this?”
“Bran. He was it.”
“He SAW it?” She sound clipped, the ARE YOU KIDDING ME tone clipped
“And Samwell confirmed it.”He read about their marriage at the CItadel” – camera on Emilia —”without even knowing what it meant” (OK BUT FUCK OFF SAM GILLY READ THAT) - Dany’s face her, she is clearly restraining herself because this sounds insane.
“A secret no one in the world knew, except your brother and your best friend, doesn’t seem strange to you?” she shakes her head and it breaks my heart how you can see the wheels turning in her head going fuck here we go again, I laid my heart bare and that’s it. Yet another betrayal.
Camera on Kit. He looks at her, takes a step forward “It’s true, Dany.” – camera on Emilia – “I know it is.” (UM HELLO DANY I AM HYPERVENTILATING BITCH)
Dany shakes her head, her face looks full with distrust. Then it goes to despair - her voice shaky “If it were true, it would make you the last male heir of the House Targaryen.” – camera on Kit HE FUCKING FROWNS LIKE WHAT – camera on Emilia – “You’d have a claim to the Iron Throne” – camera on Kit and his face goes again WHA—
THEN THE FUCKING HORN SOUNDS. Jon turns his head towards the door, but Dany keeps staring at him and she looks heartbroken.
They go out and it’s all business. He nods to her and she leaves. Interesting though - she comes out first. Jon turned back towards the sound so if they were just running out he should have come out first. Either he remembered to be courteous or there is another small exchange we didn’t get to see. Or maybe I am reading way into things and it was a lame ass decision hahah.
Ok so the reveal to Dany - you better fucking take notes Sam cuz this is how you do a reveal: being calm, level headed, explaining to the person as much as you can, answering questions.
On Dany’s reaction: my friend @oadara said it so so well in this post here. So, building on that, we need to put her reaction in context, just like I did with Jon’s cold shoulder. Dany’s discussion with S.asnsa is fresh in her mind, not just the part about who is manipulating whom, and that must drive her nuts now, but also the part in which S.asnsa did a 180 on her just when she thought she was making progress, so feeling like she was being manipulated. One of course must start asking questions. Has Jon just found out? Has he always known? Did he seduce her to take her armies and her dragons her her throne?? Moreover, Dany specifically tells S.ansa that her only goal in life has been the Iron Throne. Imagine that - having one goal in life, and suddenly someone comes in and can just rip it all away from you, poof just like that, they just need to say the word. Moreover, males have preference… and so many would rather follow a male than a female. And that’s a fact.
Moreover… she still thinks herself barren…
Like I am not saying Dany suddenly hates Jon or will cast him away (ok maybe she will initially I have a prediction/theory I will explain in a different post). I am saying… JUST GIVE DANY TIME. She just found out and now she gotta go save everyone’s ass. Let the girl breathe.
I was asking myself but why would Jon tell her now? If he himself wishes she had never known? I think it may be a very Ned Stark thing - he genuinely thinks he will fall, and he wanted to tell her the truth, because Rhaegar Targaryen may be his dad but Ned Stark is his daddy.
What do you think? As always, dms and asks are open!
Will make a preview post and another about my jonerys theory.
All in all, this episode was incredible and I loved it. I am so not ready for the fight fuuuuuuuuuuuu-

I need to talk about GoT 8x02
My thoughts on Game of Thrones 8x02 (grab a glass of wine because it’s a fucking ride and a half)
This will be moved over to my new blog for nerd reviews, Sounds Like Nerds.
WARNING: THIS WILL BE VERY SPOILER-Y AND FULL OF SWEARING!
PLEASE, IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN THIS EPISODE, DO NOT READ THE SPOILERS!
IT’S SO HARD TO STAY AWAY WHEN YOU’RE CURIOUS AS HELL, BUT PLEASE DON’T LOOK AT THESE SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN THE EPISODE!
SPOILERS WILL BE BELOW THE CUT, SO IF YOU DON’T TURN AWAY NOW, I CAN’T BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SPOILERS YOU WILL SEE.
THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE.
ALRIGHT!
Let me be very clear that this episode brought about a slight meltdown for me. The little moments these characters had with one another broke me in half, and next week, I’ll be dead entirely. Resurrect me only to watch these episodes because life will mean nothing after “Avengers: Endgame” and GoT 8x03. I’m tired, dazed, very confused, and on the verge of a complete breakdown. While I still have some energy, here we fucking go.
That opening STILL gives me goosebumps after all these years, not gonna lie.
I lost my whole uterus when Daenerys stared down Jaime and was like, “yo, I always thought of how I would kill you. Here you are” (rough translation). I was like, “BiTcH nOoOoOoO”
ALSO, DAENERYS, HOW DARE YOU QUESTION TYRION! I FELT LIKE I WAS HALLUCINATING! Someone get me some water!
Sansa, a fucking goddess, the QUEEN IN THE NORTH, A RED WOLF. I DON’T GIVE A HOLY SHIT. I LOVE HER. I WANT HER IN MY LIFE FOREVER. TOUCH HER, AND I WILL BURN THE WHOLE WORLD TO THE GROUND!
“The things we do for love” -Jaime, 1x01
“The things we do for love” -Bran, 8x02
Me, during that scene:
Brienne standing up for Jaime the way she did is not helping my desperate need for them to get together. I’m trying to put OUT this fire, not add fuel to it, ffs.
When Sansa began speaking to Brienne after that, I was terrified that Sansa would be like “you vouch for him? You would fight beside him? Then you will suffer the same fate as him.” I was like, are they gonna get fed to the dragons? TaKe Me InStEaD!
Sansa giving Jaime a pass because of her respect for Brienne cleared my skin up, and I will breathe easier until I see Endgame on Thursday night. help.
LISTEN! Here’s my issue! Daenerys’ look at Sansa infuriated me when Sansa gave Jaime a pardon of sorts. Then, she’s like, “UH, JON! WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THIS?!?!?!?!” like she’s just magically gonna get what she wants because they’re having………….the sex. Jon’s not gonna turn on his sister/cousin. I’m sorry, but don’t.
Bran just keeps staring at people. Just get that kid a blindfold, he’ll be less of a creep.
Me at Bran the ENTIRE episode:
Let me say this, I knew from the moment Arya did that little eyebrow lift at Gendry in the beginning of the episode, that they were gonna sex by the end of it. I’ve shipped it since they first met, and I will ship it until I die.
“It’s gonna be safer down in the crypt” -Gendry, totally oblivious to the little assassin Arya’s become.
“I know death. He’s got many faces. I look forward to seeing this one.” -Arya, giving me goosebumps while throwing dragonglass at a post. What a little fucking queen. Oh, God, take me away.
I lowkey want Arya to stare right into the face of the Night King, right into the face of death, and I just want her to say “not today” as a callback to season 1 and her training with Syrio Forel. Ugh. SHIT.
“Bran looks like a coconut” -my friend, 2k19
“At least Cersei won’t get to murder me” -Tyrion, giving me goosebumps because Bronn’s got that fucking crossbow of poetic justice, and I WILL NOT HAVE IT! TOUCH TYRION, AND I WILL RIOT!
Podrick has also gotten so much better with the sword, and I AM JUST SO PROUD!
“I’m not the fighter I used to be, but I’d be honored to serve under your command if you’ll have me” -Jaime, giving Brienne the credit she has always deserved, but that’s not even the best part. What happens later is what truly had me weeping.
I just want Jorah and Daenerys to kiss one time in a ship-fulfilling way. I just want him to be happy. I NEED him to be happy. Jorah fighting on behalf of Tyrion made me love him all the more, and if he dies, I WILL RIOT AGAIN!
The Sansa/Daenerys interaction had me quaking. I was literally sitting on the couch, head in my hands, shaking. I was both angry and relieved. While I’m upset they’re being pitted against one another, I’m relieved that they’re staying true to their characters. Sansa is true to her home and her people, Daenerys just wants to take what is rightfully hers (I mean, as we all know, it’s not TECHNICALLY hers *cough* Jon Snow). They’re both such headstrong women, and I hope they come together at some point. The women of this show would bring the entire population of Westeros to their knees.
Theon and Sansa reuniting had me in tears yet again. This episode was so fucking emotional for me, but I know that next week will break me even more.
“I want to fight for Winterfell, Lady Sansa, if you’ll have me” -Theon Greyjoy, reformed.
Those two have been through so much together (too much, really), and so much on their own. The fact that they are together again makes me so emotional. JUST KILL ME!
That little girl that Davos served made me cry AGAIN! He was reminded of Shireen. He wants to protect the little girl he couldn’t save.
Tormund TACKLING Jon like a quarterback was hilarious as shit in such a touching scene.
“The big woman still here?” -Tormund Giantsbane, the man who just wants some fuq
Seeing my favorite characters gathered around the command table made me shake with pure fucking fangirl excitement. It’s what I’ve wanted from the beginning.
“I took this castle from you. Let me defend you, now” -THEON GREYJOY oh my god, just bury me at this point with my collection of Marvel comics, my Star Wars pajamas, and my replica dragon eggs. Just put me to rest because I can’t. I cannot. I have been unable to can. No.
“We’re all going to die” -Tormund, putting it all out there like it’s no big deal. It’s a VERY BIG DEAL
Missandei and Greyworm having their little moment just drove home my fear that one of them is going to die before the end of the season, perhaps by the end of the next episode. WHEN YOU MAKE PROMISES IN THIS SHOW, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO KEEP THEM! YOU FUCKING FICTIONAL CHARACTERS SHOULD KNOW THIS!
Ghost just chilling in the background of that scene with Sam, Jon, and Edd is a whole 2019 mood. He gets no attention, barely any screen time, and others may not even notice him. But not us. Not us.
I’M BEING SO SUPER SERIOUS RIGHT NOW, IF SAMWELL TARLEY DIES, I WILL FUCK EVERYONE UP IN THE WORST POSSIBLE WAY! I SWEAR TO THE WHOLE UNIVERSE! SAM IS THE LAST GOOD, PURE, INNOCENT CHARACTER IN THIS GOD FORSAKEN WORLD, AND IF HE GOES DOWN, I’M GOING DOWN, TOO! I WILL HAVE A COMPLETE AND UTTER MELTDOWN, AND MY THERAPIST WILL BE GETTING A CALL AT 10:30 AT NIGHT! IF HE DIES, YOU’LL CATCH MY WHOLE ASS PICKETING IN A WALMART PARKING LOT, WEEPING.
*ahem*
sorry.
The scene with everyone around the fire was such an incredibly beautiful scene.
Also, Tyrion pouring Podrick a full cup when Brienne clearly said “HALF” is a wholeass mood.
I’m scared that the characters by the fire are the ones who are going to bite it in the next episode, and I’m not ready. I’m just gonna blackout.
TORMUND TELLING THE STORY OF HOW HE GOT THE NAME “GIANTSBANE” MADE ME CACKLE. A BEAM OF PURE LIGHT IN THIS SAD, TERRIBLE UNIVERSE! I’m still laughing.
Arya and Sandor drinking together. Leave me alone, I’m weak. I can’t talk about this right now. I’m too emotional about it still. One of these little shits is gonna die in the next episode, and I just cannot.
“I fought for you, didn’t I?” -Sandor Clegane, coming in at the last moment to rip the soul from my body. Thanks.
HeLp!
“I’m not spending my final hours with you two miserable old shits” -Arya, about to go get her freak on with Gendry ;)
When Arya started talking about Gendry’s experience with women, my friend and I both looked at each other, knowing exactly what the shit was gonna happen. It was gonna be weird, but it was gonna happen no matter what.
When Gendry finally admitted that he had been with three women, I was like, “Arya’s gonna say some smooth shit, like “want to add a fourth?”” but I was gonna be happy no matter what because these two are cute as shit together.
Me, when they were doing...the...sex:
Also me:
“Women can’t be knights” -Brienne, laying down some realness
AND THEN JAIME KNIGHTED HER, AND I CRIED LIKE A LITTLE BITCH! I TURNED INTO A PUDDLE ON THE FUCKING GROUND BECAUSE I HAVE WAITED FOR THIS MOMENT FOR SO LONG! BRIENNE DESERVED THAT TITLE MORE THAN ANYONE I’VE EVER KNOWN, AND THIS WAS SO INSPIRING TO WATCH!
I cried, babies cried, my dogs probably fucking cried.
“ARISE BRIENNE OF TARTH, A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS”
oh my HOLY ASS!
I’m crying for my giant baby right now.
LYANNA MORMONT BEING A BABY QUEEN!
“I pledged to fight for the North, and I will fight!” -Lyanna Mormont, a little beast.
I PLEDGED TO FIGHT FOR THESE CHARACTERS, AND I WILL FIGHT FOR HER!
Sam gifting Jorah his family’s sword just drove home my suspicion that they won’t see each other again because ONE OF THEM IS GONNA DIE! SO HELP ME GOD, I WILL BURN IT DOWN! I’M GONNA FUCKSTART MY TV NEXT WEEK, AND I’M GONNA THROW UP!
Jenny’s Song.
Jenny’s Song.
Jenny’s Song.
shit.
Jon telling Daenerys about his lineage had my heart POUNDING in my chest. I DO NOT want this to be a rivalry. I don’t want it. I do not...want it. Not at all. I want it a negative amount. None want. Will not support.
I’m not ready for next week.
I’m not ready for any of this.
I will never be ready!
MY LITTLE, GROWN UP BABIES ARE GOING TO DIE! I’VE WATCHED THIS SHOW FOR LONG ENOUGH TO KNOW THAT NOT EVERYONE IS MAKING IT OUT OF THIS SHIT ALIVE! I’M GONNA GO DOWN WITH WHOEVER DIES NEXT WEEK. I WILL BE BURIED WITH THEM, SO HELP ME ASS! I’M GONNA PUKE!
Honestly, this episode made me so fucking emotional. I think it sunk in that these characters I’ve been following for so many years through the books and show, are likely to meet their end so soon. I’m just having a hard time grasping this concept, and it started to sink in tonight. I’ve read these books since I was a young teen, and I started watching the show when it was coming out (against my father’s wishes). I’ve followed these stories for such a long time, and a lot is going to happen this week for me, between Endgame and this upcoming episode. I’m experiencing too many emotions, and my body may just decide to shut down altogether. Who knows?

Everybody is entitled to their opinion, but honestly, I think that people are being unnecessarily harsh on the outcome of the final season. Yes, it was rushed, I don’t think anyone can argue against that, but a majority of the character arcs were consistent and a good culmination of their stories.
Little Lyanna spoke of her loyalty and devotion to the north, her ability and desire to fight to protect her people and her homeland, and she died heroically in battle, fighting until the last second.
Jorah’s heart and soul belonged to Daenerys and he died in battle saving her life. There is no better end for him.
Beric, after being brought back by the God of Light multiple times, finally served his purpose in saving Arya’s life so that she could in turn kill the Night King and save the world.
Edd died protecting the realms of men, just as he swore to as a brother of the Night’s Watch, and saving the life of his best friend.
Melisandre spent seasons talking about destiny and the God of Light, and died after her life’s purpose, having helped win the battle and set Arya on the path to kill the Night King, just as she was destined to do.
Varys spun endless webs, gossiped, schemed, jumped from monarch to monarch and changed his loyalties all in service of the realm. In the end, his own brazenness in trying to assassinate Daenerys resulted in his downfall and he died standing up for what he believed was in the best interests of the realm.
Samwell, one of the most intelligent and kindest characters on the show achieved his dream of becoming a Maester and served under Bran Stark, his best friend’s brother-cousin. He also had a happy ending with Gilly, Little Sam and his unborn child, after having been estranged from his family for years.
Tormund is just well...Tormund haha. After fighting alongside Jon in the Great War, he returned to the north with the Wildings where he belonged. I don’t think anybody can complain about his ending. In fact, it might be the one ending that all the fans agree is a good one.
Theon sacrificed himself in defence of his home and Bran Stark, thereby redeeming himself for the betrayal he committed against House Stark. He believed he should’ve died in battle fighting for Robb Stark, instead he died in battle fighting for Bran Stark. His sacrifice and bravery meant he died a an honourable death and a true Stark.
Gendry grew up as a bastard, isolated and with no family. He got to experience what it was like to be with the woman he loved, if only for a short time, and there’s the potential that he may see her again in the future and have the opportunity to create a family with her. His bravery in going beyond the Wall and fighting in the Battle of Winterfell was rewarded with him being legitimised and being made Lord of Storm’s End.
Brienne was one of the greatest fighters in Westeros who defeated the Hound in combat. She became the first female to be knighted in the history of Westeros and was named Lord Commander of the Kingsguard under Bran Stark, Catelyn Stark’s eldest remaining true-born son, whom Brienne pledged herself to serve. She experienced unrequited love with Renly, but had a taste of reciprocal love with Jaime, a man whom respected, admired and loved her for the incredible woman she was. It may not have lasted, but Brienne’s relationship with Jaime went beyond romance - her meeting Jaime and her experiences with him are the reason why she ends the series where she does as Ser Brienne of Tarth, Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and Lord Commander of the Kingsguard.
Sandor was so twisted up and consumed with revenge that the only possible ending for him was to die exacting his revenge on his brother, and that’s exactly what he did. He bowed out having achieved his life-long ambition and rather ironically and poetically died by fire. Before he did that, he was able to reach out to Arya, whom he saw himself in, and convince her to choose life instead of revenge, a choice which he was too far gone to make.
Tyrion battled against love and duty, and ultimately chose love. He was willing to sacrifice his life to stand up against injustice and was the puppet master behind Jon’s decision to execute Daenerys for the purpose of the greater good. He was always supposed to play a hand (excuse the pun) in establishing a new political/world order. He’s an efficient, intelligent, cunning and moral man capable of justice and fairness. He’s experienced in politics and has much to offer the realm, and him serving under Bran the Broken is a poetic call back to his love for “bastards, cripples and broken things”.
Cersei has been one of the greatest villains of the series. Her stubborn refusal to relinquish her crown resulted in the decimation of the city and the ultimate price for her arrogance and inability to show mercy was the destruction of all that she held dear, including her life, Jaime’s life and the life of her unborn child.
Jaime kept his pledge to fight for the north and proved that he was honourable. He reconnected with Tyrion and experienced a taste of what healthy love looks like with Brienne. He got the opportunity to bestow the greatest gift he could upon Brienne in the ultimate demonstration of love, respect and admiration. He apologised to Bran for his mistakes and redeemed himself once again. His decision to return to Kings Landing was the only feasible outcome for him, since Cersei (and his unborn child) was ultimately the most important thing in the world to him. Just as Tyrion had a choice between duty and love, so did Jaime, and both Lannister brothers chose love. In the end, Jaime’s story wasn’t about redemption or becoming the better man, it was about him accepting that whether he likes it or not Cersei is everything to him and his fate is bound to hers. That doesn’t automatically undo all of the good that he did, it’s simply him embracing his true self and accepting it wholly. Jaime died in the arms of the woman he loved, leaving the world as he came into it, with Cersei.
Arya spent years training to be an assassin in Braavos and is one of the most cunning, quick-witted and skilled fighters and killers in Westeros. The hard-work and training she undertook equipped her with the skills to be able to kill the biggest bad of the series - The Night King - and save the world from death and destruction. She reunited with her family who she had been separated from for 7 seasons. She got to experience tenderness and intimacy with Gendry, a man whom she had a profound connection and history with and who loved her. But in the end, she stayed true to herself and instead of conforming to the traditional expectations of her as a lady of a great house, she pursued her own adventure in the wide world just as she said she would in season 6.
Sansa’s entire arc has been about resilience, overcoming adversity and playing (and winning) the game of thrones. Shaped by her mentors (Cersei, Margaery, Littlefinger etc.) and her experiences, she found pride in her homeland and House Stark’s legacy, and devoted herself to fighting for it. After ruling the northerners for an entire season and struggling for northern independence, she was crowned Queen in the North. There could’ve been no better outcome of Sansa’s story.
Bran is all-knowing, all-seeing, wise, omnipresent, high born and fair. As a child he ruled in Winterfell in Robb’s absence and as the Three Eyed Raven, the knowledge he has would be invaluable in ruling over the Seven (or Six) Kingdoms. Bran is probably the only person in the whole of Westeros that cannot be corrupted by power and his belief in a grander purpose and disregard for the pettiness of traditional politics makes him a fitting king for a new world order.
Jon spent season after season dodging power but being bestowed with it against his will. After being pushed forward as Aegon Targaryen heir of the Seven Kingdoms repeatedly throughout the season, he remained loyal to his queen and rejected his claim. He remained true to his honour in the battle in Kings Landing and refused to partake in the genocide of innocents. When faced with a terrible choice between duty and love, Jon (unlike Jaime and Tyrion) chose duty. He put a sword through Dany’s chest for the sake of the whole of Westeros. Jon returned to the true north, where he always felt most at home, casting aside the Westerosi politics and titles he’d never cared for to live a free life in the wild with Tormund, Ghost and the Wildlings.
Daenerys, oh my sweet, Dany. She spent seasons dedicated to one goal - the Iron Throne - but along the way her dream of breaking the wheel, liberating the oppressed people of the world and creating a new pure world became corrupted by her experiences and her power. She vowed to take what was hers with Fire and Blood, to lay waste to cities and armies with her dragons, and that’s exactly what she did. Her vision for a new world order was not the one that was needed. It was one that would only have led to more war, death, tyranny and fear. Her death was not only necessary, but enabled the rebuilding of a new world with the purpose of being better for all the people of Westeros.
Admittedly, not all of these endings are perfect but all of them are somewhat consistent (albeit rushed and somewhat anti-climatic) with the character development we’ve seen across the series, even if they’re not the endings that we would’ve ideally chosen.
#got spoilers#got s8 spoilers#got s8#game of thrones#got meta#my meta#mine#text post#yeah....i just thought the fandom could do with more positivity tbh#i'm not happy with a lot of what happened#but a lot of it DOES make sense#and i think if we'd had another season to develop it properly#people would be a lot happier with the finale that we got

Impressions of Game of Thrones after watching the show (because my local library had the first two seasons on DVD and I thought what the hell, why not watch the whole thing now that it’s done):
Spoilers for the whole show!
- I thought it would be this epic masterpiece, since half the world seemed so crazy about it, and was surprised that 90% of it was a medieval soap opera with family feuds and intrigues, illegitimate children and (accidental) incest
- I loved the intro, both the music and the animation. But half the time I have no idea which of the characters are actually in which of the locations shown in the beginning.
- I guess some of the battle scenes were pretty impressive, but I honestly couldn’t care less about all of them. The only time I really enjoyed the fight scenes was with Arya, because she was so cunning and elegant, and to a lesser degree with Brienne and her brute force, but during the full blown battle scenes I always paid little attention (partly because some were really terribly lit and it was hard to see something on TV during the day).
- Since I knew the most mayor players in the last season due to twitter osmosis, I found it hard to connect to a lot of characters since I knew they would bite it at some point or other. Mostly Robb who I couldn’t connect to at all (though I was surprised that he looked pretty attractive when I rewatched the Red Wedding, before that I thought he looked pretty bland). I also didn’t notice Theon at all in the first season and it took me a while to understand who he was when he got a bigger part in the second.
- In the first season, the only Stark children who I thought could act convincingly were Arya and Bran. I’m very glad that Sansa and Jon improved throughout the seasons, they were great later on. I didn’t much care for Robb, since I knew he wouldn’t win anyway.
- I’m surprised how many characters were put on hold in some seasons and just didn’t do much. Like Jaime in season 2, where he was almost completely absent, or Sansa before she returned to Winterfell.
- I didn’t fully get the religion plot in season 6 and I didn’t really care for it, but Cersei’s acting was great.
- The person I hated most was Joffrey. I already knew about Ramsey going in, since I watched him raping Sansa and his death in a college class, and most of the other “evil” characters were at least interesting to watch, but he was such a whiny sadistic piss baby. At least Jaime could actually fight, even though I found him also very annoying in the beginning. I’m sad that Arya never defeated him in a duel and cut his head of or sth. Though his death was very satisfying and I watched it more than once on youtube when I found him annoying. I would love to see Jack Gleeson in something completely different because he was a pretty good actor.
- I felt similar about Daenerys’s brother, and I looked forward to his death, but he got humanized during his death and I was surprised I felt a little bad for him as well. But had he lived, Cersei would have crushed him.
- I also loved Littlefinger’s death scene and watched it more than once, but compared to his masterful manipulation in the beginning he got very sloppy in later seasons, to be bested this easily. But Sansa also got very good at looking through manipulation and deception and playing that game herself.
- I could have watched the Stark siblings fucking shit up in the North for ages.
- I didn’t expect that so much tension came from waiting until various family members reunite again. I wouldn’t have expected that it takes 8 seasons for Arya and Jon to see each other again.
- I was surprised how much I liked Bran in the early seasons, since I knew he would end up on the throne in the end and most of the internet was disappointed by that and most of the pictures I saw of him were pretty lackluster. I still feel bad for him considering that he was pushed out of a window in the first episode and would never see his parents alive again. Regardless, he got very creepy once he became the Three Eyed Raven or whatever and actually seemed to lose the ability to act. He would have been the last person I put on that throne.
- Why didn’t every kingdom do what Sansa did and declare independance? Seems like a better deal.
- The show was very good at this buddy comedy road trip plot that it had going on for various unexpected characters. I liked both Jaime and Brienne a lot more after their road trip and I was very surprised by how much I enjoyed Arya and the Hound. They were my favorite reunion in season 8. Also Tyrion and Jorah to a lesser extent.
- I love Emilia Clarke and I was impressed how much control she had over her eyebrows. (I mostly saw her on Graham Norton and she has the most expressive eyebrows I have ever seen). Sadly, I lost more and more interest in her story, mostly because she was so far removed from all the other action, I think. But I’m glad I finally know what a Khaleesi is because I was so confused whether she was called Khaleesi or Daenerys or what.
- I’m further confused by how much time has passed in the show. Based on how much Cersei’s younger children were aged up from season 2 to season 4, you’d assume around five years or so, but based on Gilly’s child it looks like the show as a whole only took 4 years. Also seems weird to me that Arya, Bran and Rikkon spent years wandering around the country. Really?
- One of the most unrealistic things to me is that I am expected to believe that Tyrion is four years younger than Cersei and Jaime. He looks so much older than them.
- I love Sam. I love that he found the place he best fit in in the end, where he was appreciated for his talents and taken seriously. And I loved his story with Gilly.
- Considering that half the seven Kingdoms knew in the end that Cersei’s children were Jaime’s and most people couldn’t care less, was it really necessary to push Bran out of a window? (Though I guess that got out after Robert’s death, so it might have gone differently.) Additionally, who the fuck ordered the attack on Bran to kill him? It sure as hell wasn’t Tyrion, so was it Littlefinger who told Cat about the knife? But how did he know about that all the way in King’s Landing, since it takes 4 weeks to get there from Winterfell and they were all on the road. I guess someone could have sent a raven to him and he ordered someone he trusted to kill Bran with his knife, but in that case that someone with the knife had to have been there already. Logically, it should be either Cersei or Jaime (probably more Cersei, since she’s the mo0re ruthless of the two). So did Littlefinger just pretend it was his knife when Cat asked? Though I guess he could have ordered someone to steal the knife from Tyrion to frame him later on. Or Cersei did.
- Also, why the hell would anyone be stupid enough to assume that Tyrion was responsible for Bran’s attack or Joffrey’s death?
- Why did Shae completely turn on Tyrion and on top of that also sleep with Tywin? Was she this hurt by Tyrion sending her away?
- Pity that Tyrion and Sansa didn’t work out, he was the only one who truly respected her and her intelligence.
- Because I was shown Sansa’s rape on her wedding night and Ramsey’s death in class once, I spent a lot of time confused after I saw some gifs of Sansa and Tyrion’s wedding. I didn’t really recollect what Ramsey looked like, so I thought for a while that it was Tyrion who raped Sansa while Varys looked on, since someone in class explained that the guy who was forced to watch was castrated and Varys was the only castrated guy in the beginning of the show. And then I was confused why everyone liked Tyrion so much, since I thought the character raping Sansa wasn’t very well received.
- They cast Cersei’s and Jaime’s children very well. Especially after they cut off Cersei’s hair, I wasn’t sure whether some of the pictures I saw in passing in the last years were of Joffrey or Cersei. Furthermore I’m very glad that Jaime got a more rugged appearance in later seasons. He reminded me so much of a Ken doll I had as a child (who always lost one of his legs, poor guy) that I couldn’t take him seriously and actually thought he was just as much of a phony as his son as a knight. But, how the hell was Ned Stark only the second guy to notice that all children are blond while Robert’s relatives are all dark haired? And how is that considered proof? Jon is a Targaryen and he’s not blond, so Ned of all people shouldn’t judge by the hair color.
- Also, why didn’t Ned tell Cat that Jon was his nephew? Everyone else could still assume that Jon was Ned’s, but Cat could have known the truth. It’s not like she would have told Robert.
- While I thought it took ages for some storylines to move forward in the early seasons, I think it was preferable to the fast pace in the last two seasons. They felt more rushed, but also very surface level due to the huge cast.
- Also, why did everyone say Walder Frey’s daughters were so ugly and terrible? They looked like perfectly normal and nice girls. (I loved that moment when Walder introduced all of them to Robb and one corrects him on her name and he says “fine”. I laughed out loud at that.)
- Lady Olena was like every snarky twitter and tumblr comment come to life. She was awesome and her death was a really great moment.
- I was under the impression that Jon and Daenerys were some star-crossed lovers or something since all of Twitter seemed shocked that he killed her in the last episode, but they seemed like such an afterthought to me, especially since they only met for the very first time in season 7. (But kudos to that meeting, the way Ser Davos introduced him was awesome.)
- Also, for someone who told Jon he shouldn’t hold her responsible for the sins of her father, she sure likes to bring up the crimes of relatives to others. (Like Gendry in season 8, who didn’t even know who his father was for most of his life.) Seriously, that was so annoying to me.
- An finally, I cannot stress enough how much I hate that fucking phrase “Winter is coming”. By episode three I was fed up with it and it didn’t get better, not even when winter finally arrived. Honorary second place is “bend the knee”. I could have strangled everyone in season 7 and 8 who said that.

Here are some good alternate endings!
1. Dany and Jon destroy the Throne together, ending the Game of Thrones.
"In short, the story should have been the last two Targaryens in the world finding their way back to each other and destroying the Throne (which was ultimately the downfall of their house) and thus ending the 'game.'
Rheagal should have lived and Dany and Jon should have used their dragons to burn the throne. The wheel would be broken — the throne having been created by dragon fire (and the Targaryens), and then destroyed by dragon fire (and the Targaryens) – bringing the story full circle.
It would have been clever if throughout the whole story we were made to believe that Dany wanted to sit on the Iron Throne when really all she wanted to do was destroy it."
2. Jon kills himself after killing Dany.
"Jon Snow should have died a la Melisandre after Dany (in a sort of Romeo & Juliet type manner) as he had fulfilled the Lord of Light's purpose. Drogon should have taken both of them away."
3. Brienne decides to be with Tormund.
Gendry on that effing boat [with Arya]. Sandor still alive with both his eyes and on the boat with him. I shipped Brienne with Jaime, but since he chose his sister...Brienne getting knighted and then choosing Tormund. Jon, King of the Seven Kingdoms.
Dany would still be dead. Since Mereen, I felt that she was a different person and lost her morals."
4. Bran is actually...the Night King?
"Everything stays the same. The credits roll then go to a cut scene of Bran warging out. The camera zooms in closer and closer until the shot is just Bran’s eyes. He blinks. His eyes flash to Night King blue. The end.
George R. R. Martin trolls all of us. The show's ending is actually the ending to The Winds of Winter. A Song of Spring will be where we are given the true ending."
5. We see where Drogon takes Dany.
"Keeping it as is cuz whatevs, but we actually see where Drogon takes Dany. He lands on a field full of dragon eggs because come on, we really think there were only three dragon eggs left in the world? He puts Dany on the eggs and sets the whole thing on fire. Dany is reborn again, but spends the rest of her days on the other side of the world just chilling."
6. Arya wears Grey Worm's face to kill Dany.
"We watched Arya for TWO GOD DAMN SEASONS learning to become a faceless man and she used it once to kill Walder Frey?!?
Arya should have killed Grey Worm and worn his face to kill Dany. Also, Arya needed a bad ass kill in the finale. That would have put Jon on the throne and Jon could have then exiled Arya so she could sail the world like she wanted."
7. Arya wears Jon's face to kill Dany.
"I wish Jon had realized he wouldn’t be able to kill Dany, so he sacrifices himself so Arya can take his face, get close enough to Dany and kill her. Jon is dead, but he did it to save everyone and still show some love for Dany. Arya would be exiled to go west anyway in my brain. Same general story but with a bit of umph to it, I guess. But I must say I thought it was very good in its simplicity."
8. Dany and Jon rule together.
"I’m such a sucker for happy endings that I really hoped Dany and Jon would just rule together, and because of that Sansa would still have the independent North. I understand the Mad Queen thing probably made for a more interesting plot, but I still hated watching Dany’s downfall considering everything she’d ever been through and coming out even stronger for it. I still hoped for them to rule together or at worst Jon giving up his right to the throne so she could rule on her own. But again, I’m just a sucker for happy endings, so to each their own."
9. Dany kills herself.
"All could be the same until after Danys Speech...Tyrion is sentenced to death by fire. Jon stands in front of Drogon and stops the execution. Tyrion explains to the Army why Jon was able to stop Drogon – because he's the rightful ruler. The army, and Grey Worm bend the knee to Jon. Dany is upset at losing power to Jon, losing the army, and losing power over Drogon, so she kills herself."
10. Bronn isn't on the small council because "that makes literally no sense."
"I don't know how it should have ended but I would personally like to have seen:
Brienne starting the next page of the knight book with her name and the first sentence would be that she's the first female head of the Kingsguard, and she helped form a constitutional monarchy.
Bronn NOT on the small council because that makes literally no sense.
Ending shot of the show should be a shadow of Drogon flying and a faint dragon's cry over some land that we've never seen before.
Sam should have said A Song of Ice and Fire is not yet finished.
Dany's eyes should have turned purple to honour the original writing, and she should have sat on the throne."
11. Bran was actually able to walk all along.
"Honestly I wish it would’ve just ended with Bran standing up and being like 'HAHA GOTCHA I could walk this whole time.'"
12. Brienne is pregnant with Jaime's baby.
"A glimpse of Brienne’s writing should have revealed: 'Fathered a child with Brienne of Tarth.'"
13. Dany melts the throne, then flies away with Drogon. Westeros becomes seven independent nations.
"Dany melts the throne, then her and Drogon fuck off. Jon and Tyrion are held responsible. It's decided that Westeros will be seven independent nations, with Bran serving as the protector. Jon is still banished to the Night's Watch (but we all know he's now King Beyond the Wall).
Final scene is an elderly woman tending to a lemon tree in the yard of a house with a red door. She looks up and smiles as Drogon flies over."
14. Jaime kills Cersei.
"Basically the gists of what I was hoping would go down is:
Jaime kills Cersei (thus fulfilling Maggy's prophecy).
Arya kills Dany (thus fulfilling Melisandre’s prophecy and completing her ‘no one’ arc).
Jon is nominated as King of Westeros (whether he rejects it or not is up to him, but damn his name should really be among the nominees, not because he’s a Targaryen, but because of his credibility).
Sansa remains Queen of the independent North.
If Arya exploring west has to remain the same, then I hope this happens: Gendry eventually realized that he’s not really feeling the ‘Lord’ title anyway and suddenly shows up at the harbor and tells Arya he wants to join her.
The people in the court council remain the same.
Flash forward to coronation day like in the finale, with Jon Snow visiting Castle Black (now no longer a place for the banished, but a middle meeting point for Westerosi and Freefolk to discuss matters when needed) to say hi to old friend Tormund and to pet Ghost."
15. The white walkers are the final enemy, and Jon has defeat them by killing Daenerys.
"I wanted the white walkers to be the final enemy and hoped for a more literal re-telling of the Last Hero/Prince story that was promised. Basically the winter is getting worse and people are losing the fight. The hero (Jon) tragically puts his sword through his lover (Daenerys) to create the weapon that drives the Others back where they came from and ends the winter... At least for the next couple thousand years. Jon, wounded and having nothing left to lose, is last seen chasing the remaining enemy way beyond the wall, knowing he won't make it back."
16. Sansa is queen of the seven kingdoms.
"I wish Arya was the one that killed Dany, but Jon still refuses the throne, and Sansa ends up on the throne of the seven kingdoms. She’s so level-headed and would’ve been so much better than Bran. And I wish Arya ended up with Gendry so that at least one couple could have a happy ending. But seriously, anyone but Bran."
17. Gendry becomes king.
"Should have been Gendry. Do you know how much fanfiction I'm going to have to read to make up for this?"
18. Dany gets killed, then is brought back to life, then kills everyone...again?
"Tyrion is killed by Dany for betraying her. Arya kills Dany. Drogon takes Dany to a wizard that brings her back to life, and comes back and torches everyone again to take back the Iron Throne."

This is not a pro-monarchy blog, but...
Can we stop romanticizing Westeros as seven independent kingdoms? Seriously, I understand the appeal - especially of a free and independent North - but most of the discourse around this hand waves the geo-political complexities of the show (not to mention the more substantial ones present in the books). If we’re going to demand this as an outcome for the series, we should be at least able to talk about what this will actually look like.
(Note: I would love to see other peoples thoughts on this. I know there have to be significant dialogues out there. I’m honestly just reacting to the surface level discussion that is running rampant in the fandom.)
So let’s pretend that Dany, the Night King and Cersei all decide to abandon Westeros for an inter dimensional super villain conference, around the timeline of ‘Spoils of War.’ The wights are given a proper burial. The Unsullied and Dothraki go back to Essos. And Cersei blows up the Red Keep on her way out of town. All those terrible tyrants gone in one fell and relatively painless swoop. Westeros rejoices! What does this mean for the North?
The first step is settling things with the Knights of the Vale. Perhaps the best case scenario is that they decide that their role in returning the North to the Starks has atoned for their absence in fighting the War of the Five Kings. They promise to be allies and head home, probably with supplies (provisions, furs, etc.) from Winterfell to aid their journey.
However, we know that Lord Royce and others seem to have bent the knee to Jon Snow and House Stark. Even without the threat of being ruled by the Lannisters, they may want to honor their oath. Unfortunately, the Vale and the North don’t share a land border and annexing the Riverlands would geographically tie them together. Both Sansa Stark (and her now returned siblings) and Robin Arryn are tied to House Tully and the Riverlands through their mothers. The North and the Knights of the Vale set about conquering the Riverlands and restoring House Tully.
With House Frey gone, the power vacuum in the Riverlands has been filled by Lannister men. Depending on the state of House Lannister, these troops may continue occupying in order to annex the region themselves, be allowed to return home, or individually find opportunities for advancement and attempt to make themselves lords in the Riverlands. Assuming the North is successful, they now have a geographically vulnerable territory to defend - no natural defense like the mountains and the Neck here - and, in controlling three regions, look like aggressors in this newly liberated continent.
All of this assumes the Littlefinger is happy with either outcome. We know that his personal ambitions mean that he will try to seize power from this chaos and the easiest way would be organize a rebellion against Jon Snow. It wouldn’t take much effort to persuade ambitious, minor lords from the Vale that the North owes them for winning the Battle of the Bastards, and it wouldn’t take much imagination to convince them that they could take the North with little effort. The Starks themselves recognize the need for keeping the Knights of the Vale close - the Northern armies are pretty decimated at this point. Even if Littlefinger’s rebellion wasn’t successful long term, the North would be thrust into open conflict (be it described as civil war or invasion) for the foreseeable future. And, within the North, factions may rise around individual Starks as well (Bran Stark, for his legitimacy; Sansa and Arya Stark, so that their husbands could rule through their claim), not because of their own ambition but because they are now vulnerable to the demands of their allies.
Dorne, the Stormlands, and the Reach have lost their ruling families. The best case scenario is that an heir is quickly established and widely supported. The worst case is that all three regions immediately dissolve into a protracted civil war. Depending again on what we are to believe about the number of Lannister troops still standing, one or more of these regions will be facing a similar fall out to the Riverlands as well.
The Crownlands will need to be either annexed, conquered or establish leadership. This region of the country has typically owed fealty directly to the Iron Throne. Historically, I believe the land was split between the Stormlands and the Reach, but these ties have frayed in the centuries since this was true.
The Westerlands have been stretched thin. The loss of the Red Keep and the Iron Throne would devastate local moral. The gold mines that have been their economic advantage for years have been depleted. Casterly Rock has been sacked (and abandoned by the Unsullied). While House Lannister will survive without Cersei (either through Jaime, Tyrion or a part of the extended family), their ability to continue to reign in the long term is doubtful, if for no other reason that their are plenty of houses with grudges to settle against them. The question immediately becomes whether or not they consolidate their troops and shore up their resources, or push their advantage in a territory they are already occupying and immediately try to conquer it.
Euron Greyjoy and the Iron Islands are actually in the best position to move forward. With Yara captured, her rebelling faction has been quelled - and, with the fall of Cersei and central power, their ability to reap, rape and rove down the coastline with relative impunity has been restored. With Euron’s ambition, I don’t doubt that he would make a play for conquering, likely the Crownlands and/or the Riverlands. That he would likely not be able to establish a dynasty would just prolong the unrest in the South.
None of this would stop the rise of new tyrants or other ambitious men and women. Depending on how expansive the North becomes, for example, it wouldn’t be surprising for a central leadership to be established amongst some combination of the Crownlands, Stormlands, Westerlands, Riverlands and the Reach - which share similar cultural values and have fewer geographic barriers between them. This goes back to why Robert became king after the Rebellion. Westeros was reshaped around centralized rule and, more significantly, it became something ambitious men knew could be accomplished.
A more egalitarian society is actually more likely under a unified Westeros. With multiple factions competing with one another for control, the lords with the most power and resources stand the best shot of victory. In the upheaval, people will look for familiar power structures for reassurance - a benefit to those whose strength is derived from inherited titles and rule. This is not to say that new houses and new ‘nobility’ will not be created, but even these new lords and ladies will want to be able to enforce the privilege that will become their due. Following what has now been years of conflict, the common man and woman, torn between survival and gaining a voice, will chose the safest route. (Think of the Brotherhood without Banners - it never gained enough traction to be much more than a nuisance to the establishment.)
All of the major players in Westeros have had untraditional paths to power. Dany was given to the Dothraki for their army. Jon was a bastard sent to the Wall. Baelish was a minor lord that made himself invaluable to those with more influence. Euron was banished for starting a rebellion. Even Cersei, by law of succession, should not have the influence she does. If any one of them were to gain control of Westeros, with the devastation that war has had on traditional regional leaders, they would have the ability to rebuild the structure of power within the Seven Kingdoms. This is not to say that any of them would favor a democratic or republican (little d, little r) system, but it isn’t hard to imagine Jon being more forgiving of the illegitimate seeking advancement or Littlefinger having an affinity for the merchant class.
Noticeably, this doesn’t address the more practical everyday concerns that would now be facing each independent kingdom. The North, for one, would certainly need to build up its ports and Southern borders in order to have more reliable trade routes and prevent marauding. The exchange of goods, people and ideas between the kingdoms would get more fraught as each region sought to reestablish a local identity. Each kingdom would also be a more appealing target to foreign invaders. And so on.
There are a lot of real world comparisons that we can draw on. The Westerosi economy is not as developed as the one the UK has today, but its not hard to think of Brexit as a model for pros and cons. It bears noting that the longest peace in Europe has been under the EU. We can also look to the American Revolution (and Civil War) for further comparisons on how separate and distinct regions tend to react when a tyrannical monarchy is overthrown.
Which brings me to: why is Northern independence so important to fans in the first place? The circumstances that drew the North into the last two wars aren’t necessarily going to change - a king and a lord paramount can both be killed in hostile negotiations in the south, their daughters still taken hostage. The North will still have allies and trade deals with the south. There will still be blood ties to be exploited and honor to be upheld for different oaths made. What is truly gained by independence except the possibility that one favorite or another will get a royal title and not have to bend the knee?

The Fate of A Song- Chapter 2
Chapter 2 Crescendo
Summary:
The Knight of the Laughing Tree appears and Rhaegar finds Lyanna to be a lady like no other.
Read on Ao3
Winterfell
Lyanna tried to get up, she tried to scream but the smoke was filling her lungs, Lyanna tried to slide further to the ground so the smoke didn’t get to her. The next contraction helped by forcing her to the ground. Lyanna could feel the babe pushing to get out. Lyanna tried to keep him in but it was no use.
Lyanna couldn’t help but to stare up at the ceiling wondering if this was her penance for the things she had done. Lyanna wish she could say she was sorry but she wasn’t. She would never be.
Lyanna wanted to cry again but she held her head as high as she could. Lyanna could have this baby, she could get them out of there. There was no other option, Lyanna wouldn’t allow her babe to suffer for her crimes. Lyanna knew, had always known, that she could protect herself.
Harrenhal
The tournament had started with The King knighting Jaime Lannister. Everyone around applauded for the new knight. Arthur clapped when appropriate but he wasn’t sure how he felt about the young lion. The youngest to ever join the Kingsguard. Jamie bowed and went to his position next to Queen Rhaella.
Benjen sneaked under the seats and clapped as loudly as he could without letting his brother’s know he was here. They thought Benjen and Lyanna were off watching another display and so Lyanna had made him promise to hide but Benjen had so badly wanted to see Jaime Lannister get knighted because he so badly wanted to be a knight himself.
Rhaegar was seated on the right of the King, his mother on the other side. Viserys playing with her hair in her lap. Several people came up to the royal family to give their regards. One of them was the King of Dorne and his daughter and son. Arthur measured Rhaegar’s reaction since he knew that the King wanted to keep Dorne tied to the Seven Kingdoms and in doing so he betrothed Rhaegar to Princess Elia.
“My Prince.” Princess Elia bowed. Rhaegar bowed his head in response.
“It’s a good day for jousting no? Don’t you ride later?” she asked engaging him in small talk.
Rhaegar nodded never smiling but that was common for him. Rhaegar of course being nothing but polite but Arthur could see he wasn’t really involved in the conversation. Arthur found him staring off into the distance many times.
It was about midday when a mysterious jouster joined the contests. Everyone in the crowds leaned forward as the Knight of the Laughing Tree, as people called him, won another joust. The audience roared and laughed watching as the Knight took out good jousters. Benjen and Howland scurried off to find a better view.
Arthur was indeed interested with this mysterious knight for he already took out two men and instead of asking for Gold he asked the Lords that they teach their squires respect. Arthur wondered who it was and if he was going to reveal himself. At the end of the day the Mad King asked for the knight to take of their helm. Many shocked gasps went through the crowd as the knight refused and then took off.
“Go get him! I want his head! Traitor! Traitor!” The Mad King raved as he signaled Rhaegar to go after him. Rhaegar jumped over the seating and ran to his horse. Arthur and Oswell running with him.
As the three of them tore through the forest there was no sight of the Knight anywhere. It wasn’t until Rhaegar heard the clacking of metal did they slow down. Rhaegar dismounted his horse a few seconds before Arthur and Oswell. Rhaegar slowly crept through the forest until he saw a small stream. There were various armor parts on the ground. Rhaegar heard a grunt and went through the bushes to find a woman taking off her armor.
Oswell gasped and Arthur hit his arm shushing him.
“But it’s a girl!” he harshly whispered. Arthur hit him shushing him again.
Rhaegar motioned for Arthur and Oswell to stay where they were as he approached the maiden. Rhaegar crept with anticipation for he knew that long curly brown hair. Rhaegar had caught glimpses of her before. Rhaegar stopped in his track as she removed her chest piece, her tunic riding up to show Rhaegar her smooth skin. Rhaegar looked down not wanting to be invasive.
“My—” Rhaegar was about to approach when Lyanna spun around with a dagger and almost stabbed the prince but luckily he moved out of the way. Arthur and Oswell rushed for him. Lyanna stopped moving and the dagger fell to the ground when she realized who it was.
“My Prince!” Arthur shouted but Rhaegar motioned for him to stop. Arthur huffed feeling his heartbeat ten times faster. This was the crown prince, heir to the Iron Throne, and most importantly his best friend.
“I’m quite all right Arthur.”
“I’m so sorry, I didn’t realize…” Lyanna trailed off.
“It’s quite all right.” Rhaegar responded.
“Well it’s your fault for sneaking up on me anyways.” Lyanna rolled her eyes huffing. Rhaegar smiled at her which made Arthur and Oswell look at each other in astonishment. Oswell in amusement and Arthur in annoyance.
“He’s smiling.” Oswell whispered to Arhtur and he pushed him away making Oswell snort with laughter.
“We’re fine here.” Rhaegar said to them. Arthur looked at him pursing his lips not really wanting to leave the Prince by himself though he was quite sure Lyanna meant him no harm.
“I have no more daggers I promise.” Lyanna quipped.
“But we’re supposed to bring her back.” Oswell said confused. Arthur watched as Rhaegar’s face turned from pure happiness to rage.
“If you speak one word of what you saw here Ser Oswell I will have your head!” Rhaegar spoke deadly serious.
“Of course My Prince you know my loyalty is to you.” He bowed his head.
“Wait bring me back to the King? Are you going to because I won’t come quietly and I swear—” Lyanna started to flip out but Rhaegar stopped her by moving in her path.
“No my Lady. I promise no harm will come to you ever. ” Rhaegar swore and Lyanna appraised him before calming down.
“I told you call me Lyanna.” She rolled her eyes gathering up her armor.
“Why did you joust today?” Rhaegar asked trying to distract her with another subject.
“Those squires were beating up on my father’s bannerman, and I couldn’t let that go unpunished.” Lyanna raved.
“Ah yes they were the same men I caught you about to beat up yesterday.” He nodded with a small smile. “Well that was quite brave of you.”
“It was not brave, it was necessary, why do you say it was brave because I’m a lady?” she folded her arms across her chest.
“No, it was an honorable act is all.” Rhaegar said. “I meant no disrespect. I am honestly in awe because most people would have let it go, especially a lady. It was a compliment.”
“I’m not like most ladies.” Lyanna responded.
“No you’re not.” Rhaegar said wistfully and it almost looked like Lyanna was blushing. “I shall, if you will agree, take your armor back to the King so he can see we looked for you.” Rhaegar said.
Lyanna looked sadden by the thought of giving up her armor but she did it anyways knowing that being on the bad side of the Mad King wasn’t something anyone wanted to do. Rhaegar bowed to her and turned around for his horse which Ser Oswell had prepared.
“My Prince.” Lyanna spoke and Rhaegar turned. “Thank you.”
“You don’t have to thank me.” He said softly.
“I do, if anyone else had found me, I could be burning right now.” Lyanna responded honestly. Rhaegar flinched at the thought of her in harm’s way.
“I’m not like anyone else.” Rhaegar quipped.
Lyanna was just stared at him, at his silver hair, his mouth. Lyanna felt a longing that she had never felt before. Lyanna tried to shake herself from her thoughts because same he was the Silver Prince, the honorable Rhaegar and she had heard he was betrothed as was she. But looking at him it was hard not to imagine touching him in that moment with her hands instead of her eyes. As she traced him with her eyes she didn’t notice that Rhaegar was doing the same.
“No you’re not like anyone else.” Lyanna said holding her skirts with her hands so she didn’t do something like walk to him. “So thank you.”
“Of course.” Rhaegar said mounting his horse. “My Lady Knight.” He said with a small smile. Lyanna’s eyes widen as the nickname reached her. Lyanna never blushed as much as she had recently. In his presence she had blushed more than a dozen times.
Rhaegar looked at her face wanting to stay, to talk with her, to learn more about her but he realized he had duties to perform so he galloped off with Arthur and Oswell at his heels. Though in that moment Rhaegar was galloping he felt like he was flying.
“So what shall we tell the King?” Arthur asked Rhaegar.
“We will tell him we tried to find the knight but he disappeared.” Rhaegar shrugged looking down at Lyanna’s shield.
“Do you think he’ll believe you?” Arthur asked.
“I don’t care if he does or not. Under no circumstances is he to learn the truth.” He said firmly and Arthur nodded. “Lyanna needs to be safe.” Rhaegar said but it was almost a murmur that Arthur almost didn’t catch it.
“I promise you, she will be.” Arthur commented and Rhaegar looked at him for a moment before nodding with a satisfied look on his face.
Though Arthur was merely referring to what happened when they got back to the King with the shield, Arthur had this feeling it wasn’t going to apply to just now.
Winterfell
Lyanna breathed as she thought about the tourney she had almost won. Rhaegar thought her brave but she knew she had just done what was right. If she could fight to honor Howland then she could fight to save herself and her child. Which means if they were going to get out of there she was going to have to birth the baby now.
Thank you for reading! Let me know what you think!

D&D campaign lore/story: The first Magehunter Crusade
I recently created a magical item (Here) for my campaign, and this gave me some inspiration for a piece of lore/story.
Dahmaan, continent of Deinmaar.
588, 6th of April.
”So,” said Eldric, “can you do it?”
The enchanter studied the longswords, and raised a graying eyebrow.
”Honestly, I have no idea how I would do such a thing,” he cautiously said. “Besides -”
Drenix stepped forward, and placed a weighty purse on the table, next to the longswords. The enchanter opened it. Upon seeing the numerous gems, the other eyebrow joined the first one.
”Actually, I think I might have an idea. Maybe if I somehow linked -”
”How long will it take?” interrupted Eldric. The enchanter rubbed his chin.
“I mean, that depends on how long it takes to work out the mechanics of the spell. After that I just have to apply it.
”You have a week,” said Eldric. He and the seven other knights left the enchanter to his work. The war raged on. The mages wrought havoc on the forces of the city of Dahmaan. Even though Dahmaan vastly outnumbered the Conclave of Mages, they were still losing. There had always been a lot of rivalry between the Mages and the Guilds. It hadn’t been a big problem until a few months ago, when King Merennis the Third publicly expressed his sympathy towards the Guilds. After that, nearly all mages left the city, leaving the city without arcane help. The hate grew on both sides, and violence erupted soon thereafter.
588, 15th of April.
The eight identical longswords lay neatly on the table. Throughout the workshop, countless new papers littered the desk and floor.
“Is it done?” asked Eldric. The enchanter, who stood behind the table, beckoned the knights closer. He grinned, and nodded.
“It is done. Go ahead, pick one up.” Eldric nodded towards Iskander, who cautiously picked one up. He examined it. He took a step back, and swung it a few times. With each swing, a set of runes near the tip glowed white.
“It feels heavier when I swing it." he said skeptically. The enchanter’s grin widened.
“Indeed.” He took a sizeable diamond out of his pocket. “You see, my first idea was to store energy for the enchantment in a gem, and make it automatically release a pulse of counter-energy whenever a spell was directed towards the wielder of the sword, but even such large gems can only store so much energy. It wouldn’t work in battle.” The enchanter’s eyes gleamed with enthusiasm. “I realised that I needed to think of a way to do it without storing energy.” He looked at Iskander. “Would you agree that swinging a weapon takes effort?”
Iskander nodded. “Aye.”
“And wouldn’t you agree that effort is the same as energy?”
He nodded again.
“I found a way to convert part of the physical energy spent to swing the sword into magical energy, fueling a warding spell. That - and a bit for the energy conversion - is why it takes more effort to swing it.”
The eight knights grinned. “You have done us a great service, enchanter,” said Drenix, as he showed him another gem-packed purse.
588, 16th of April.
“Hear ye, people, hear ye!” yelled Wiltrith. A crowd began gathering around the wooden platform. Towards the side, something was obscured with a blanket.
“No more,” announced Eldric to the audience, “no more do we have to be afraid of the mages!” He nodded to Drenix. Drenix walked to the object with the blanket thrown over. With a tug, he pulled it off, and revealed a man in chains. The crowd gasped. “This,” Eldric continued, “is a mage we have captured!” The man stared daggers at the knights.
“Go on, Drenix, unchain him,” Eldric said, as he unsheathed his sword.
Noone in the crowd dared to move.
As soon as the lock clicked open, the man raised his hand. A ball of roaring flame hurled through the air, towards Eldric. People in the crowd screamed in panic. If this doesn’t work I will haunt that enchanter’s soul forever, he thought. A split second before the fireball was about to hit, Eldric made a wide sweep with his blade. In a wondrous display of multicoloured fractals, the fireball fizzled. The mage blinked incredulously “But how -” was all he managed to stutter before his head was severed from his shoulders.
“People of Dahmaan, we will spearhead the battle against mages!” Drenix yelled. “Follow us! The time has come for us to purge these vile people from this realm!”
Many of the city’s residents took up arm alongside the eight knights and the king’s army. Throughout their successes, they gained immense popularity, and many titles. “The Eight of Swords,” “Magehunters.” Each of the knights, Eldric, Drenix, Iskander, Wiltrith, Galtyron, Lodard, Arenin and Pyraen, became almost holy figures to the people. With the Eight of Swords on the side of Dahmaan, nearly all of the rebelling mages were found and killed. Thousands of people died following the Eight, but that did not matter to them. They died for the Eight. Drunk with power and popularity, they wanted more. A kingdom. They wanted Dahmaan. Of course, with the people and most of the king’s army on their side it was easy for them to overthrow King Merennis. That was the step that sent them over the edge. They took over the city, but they could not decide who would rule. They all wanted more power. They fought. Eventually Only Galtyron stood. Bleeding from a dozen cuts, he gave up. He had killed his friends. He gathered the swords, and dragged himself and the swords to the window overlooking the river.

10 Things I’m Truly Looking Forward to in 2018
Saying goodbye to all the pop culture stuff that went down in 2017 was cathartic and all, but sometimes (like right now), it’s the first week of January, you forgot how to wear clothes that aren’t PJs/sweats and you just need something to look forward to, to light a fire under your ass.
I already know it works: Just yesterday morning I reminded myself that the sooner I stop hitting snooze, the sooner I can come back to my apartment in 12 hours to eat nachos while watching the newest episode of Vanderpump Rules in bed (my New Year’s resolution is to follow my heart). I didn’t hit snooze once! If this first week back has been a struggle for you, here are 10 other things I’m looking forward to this year to get us to the weekend:
After “Lemonade,” “4:44” and that T Magazine interview, I honestly dont know what to expect, but there will most definitely be a trailer and it will make me less uncomfortable than this one. Is this why Jay was growing his hair out? Will he show up at Coachella to promote this? Who will babysit Blue Ivy, Sir and Rumi, then? Do you think they realize how cool it is that their aunt is Solange?! Seriously though, who has a Tidal login and can I borrow it before this happens?
May 19, 2018, motherfuckers!!!! It’s been seven whole years since Will and Kate got married on April 29, 2011 (did you read that in a British accent?) which, for context, was when “Rolling in the Deep” and “Party Rock Anthem” were playing all the damn time. This round of fancy hattery is bound to be fun because we all know the same rules don’t apply with second-borns, and there’s an American involved — even if she isn’t me, like I originally planned 14 years ago.
In other British news, two of my favorite musically-inclined British septuagenarians have been knighted by Prince Harry’s grandma. Try saying “Sir Richard Starkey AKA Sir Ringo Starr” five times fast! Now watch this entire music video! Now look at these adorable tweets!
Huge congrats Sir Ringo! Sir Richard Starkey has a nice ring to it. Best drummer best pal! X Paul pic.twitter.com/ew5PuxhEv1
— Paul McCartney (@PaulMcCartney) December 30, 2017
Dear Sir Ringo I am very happy that you have received this honour from the Queen. It’s about time! Huge congratulations! I am delighted for you and your family. It is an honour for everyone in The Beatles family and I love you very much. love, hugs and kisses, yoko x ✌️ ❤️ pic.twitter.com/ncDjH2wllW

GET EXCITED!!!!!
I mean, just look at this thumbnail image.
March 9th!
Remember how much fun last year’s solar eclipse turned out to be? We all went outside, looked through weird contraptions, had the smallness of our existence re-confirmed and proceeded to see weird stripes on our laptop screens and tried to stay calm even though we suddenly had headaches for the remainder of the day and thought we might be going blind; it was great.
Well, we already kicked off New Year’s Day with a supermoon, which was only pre-gaming the upcoming moon spectacular on January 31st. It will be the first total eclipse of a Blue Moon in nearly 152 years! This very rare Supermoon x Blue Moon x Total Lunar Eclipse (aka BLOOD MOON) collaboration not only sounds like an EDM set at Coachella and easier on the eyes than the solar eclipse was, but also like I should probably throw some sort of party. Please leave your favorite moon-related song suggestions in the comments below.
Here’s lookin’ at you, Westworld, High Maintenance and Atlanta.
This year’s events are going down February 9th to February 25th and few things will make you feel warmer during those frigid times than vegetating on your couch whilst watching inspiring athletes partake in sports that involve snow and ice. I’ll also have you know this year’s mascot is this sprightly lil white tiger named Soohorang, who walks with confidence and conviction and honestly, that’s reason enough to tune in.
Runner-up reason:
via GIPHY
Nay, this year you can switch it up and just be generally annoyed by the prevalence of prequels, sequels and spin-offs. Maybe try getting it all out in one huge, collective Liz Lemon eye-roll, or steadily distributing one less dramatic but still exaggerated eye-roll once a month throughout the year. It’s all personal preference.
A sampling to get you started: The Incredibles 2, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Avengers: Infinity Wars, Solo: A Star Wars Story, Deadpool 2, X-Men: Dark Phoenix, Wreck-It Ralph 2, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, Paddington 2, Mission: Impossible 6, Maze Runner: The Death Cure, Fifty Shades Freed, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse(???!?!), Insidious: The Last Key, The Strangers 2, AND MANY MORE!
Rihanna!!!!!!!!! With Amal Clooney!!!!!!!!! And Donatella Versace!!!!!!!!!
The entire cast. The ENTIRE cast. Lupita Nyong’o. Angela Basset. Forest Whitaker. Daniel Kaluuya. Chadwick Boseman. Danai Gurira. Winston Duke. Letitia Wright. Have you seen the posters?! Also, Gollum and Bilbo Baggins open this trailer with a casual conversation while wearing streetwear and MICHAEL B. JORDAN is in this film in general, so…yes.
What are you looking forward to in 2018?

Eddard
It's the hand's tourney that's the cause of all the trouble, my lords," the commander of the city watch complained to the king's council. "The king's tourney," Ned corrected, wincing. "I assure you, the Hand wants no part of it." "Call it what you will, my lord. Knights have been arriving from all over the realm, and for every knight we get two freeriders, three craftsmen, six men-at-arms, a dozen merchants, two dozen whores, and more thieves than I dare guess. This cursed heat had half the city in a fever to start, and now with all these visitors . . . last night we had a drowning, a tavern riot, three knife fights, a rape, two fires, robberies beyond count, and a drunken horse race down the Street of the Sisters. The night before a woman's head was found in the Great Sept, floating in the rainbow pool. No one seems to know how it got there or who it belongs to." "How dreadful," Varys said with a shudder. Lord Renly Baratheon was less sympathetic. "If you cannot keep the king's peace, Janos, perhaps the City Watch should be commanded by someone who can." Stout, jowly Janos Slynt puffed himself up like an angry frog, his bald pate reddening. "Aegon the Dragon himself could not keep the peace, Lord Renly. I need more men." "How many?" Ned asked, leaning forward. As ever, Robert had not troubled himself to attend the council session, so it fell to his Hand to speak for him. "As many as can be gotten, Lord Hand." "Hire fifty new men," Ned told him. "Lord Baelish will see that you get the coin." "I will?" Littlefinger said. "You will. You found forty thousand golden dragons for a champion's purse, surely you can scrape together a few coppers to keep the king's peace." Ned turned back to Janos Slynt. "I will also give you twenty good swords from my own household guard, to serve with the Watch until the crowds have left." "All thanks, Lord Hand," Slynt said, bowing. "I promise you, they shall be put to good use." When the Commander had taken his leave, Eddard Stark turned to the rest of the council. "The sooner this folly is done with, the better I shall like it." As if the expense and trouble were not irksome enough, all and sundry insisted on salting Ned's wound by calling it "the Hand's tourney," as if he were the cause of it. And Robert honestly seemed to think he should feel honored! "The realm prospers from such events, my lord," Grand Maester Pycelle said. "They bring the great the chance of glory, and the lowly a respite from their woes." "And put coins in many a pocket," Littlefinger added. "Every inn in the city is full, and the whores are walking bowlegged and jingling with each step." Lord Renly laughed. "We're fortunate my brother Stannis is not with us. Remember the time he proposed to outlaw brothels? The king asked him if perhaps he'd like to outlaw eating, shitting, and breathing while he was at it. If truth be told, I ofttimes wonder how Stannis ever got that ugly daughter of his. He goes to his marriage bed like a man marching to a battlefield, with a grim look in his eyes and a determination to do his duty." Ned had not joined the laughter. "I wonder about your brother Stannis as well. I wonder when he intends to end his visit to Dragonstone and resume his seat on this council." "No doubt as soon as we've scourged all those whores into the sea," Littlefinger replied, provoking more laughter. "I have heard quite enough about whores for one day," Ned said, rising. "Until the morrow." Harwin had the door when Ned returned to the Tower of the Hand. "Summon Jory to my chambers and tell your father to saddle my horse," Ned told him, too brusquely. "As you say, my lord." The Red Keep and the "Hand's tourney" were chafing him raw, Ned reflected as he climbed. He yearned for the comfort of Catelyn's arms, for the sounds of Robb and Jon crossing swords in the practice yard, for the cool days and cold nights of the north. In his chambers he stripped off his council silks and sat for a moment with the book while he waited for Jory to arrive. The Lineages and Histories of the Great Houses of the Seven Kingdoms, With Descliptions of Many High Lords and Noble Ladies and Their Children, by Grand Maester Malleon. Pycelle had spoken truly; it made for ponderous reading. Yet Jon Arryn had asked for it, and Ned felt certain he had reasons. There was something here, some truth buried in these brittle yellow pages, if only he could see it. But what? The tome was over a century old. Scarcely a man now alive had yet been born when Malleon had compiled his dusty lists of weddings, births, and deaths. He opened to the section on House Lannister once more, and turned the pages slowly, hoping against hope that something would leap out at him. The Lannisters were an old family, tracing their descent back to Lann the Clever, a trickster from the Age of Heroes who was no doubt as legendary as Bran the Builder, though far more beloved of singers and taletellers. In the songs, Lann was the fellow who winkled the Casterlys out of Casterly Rock with no weapon but his wits, and stole gold from the sun to brighten his curly hair. Ned wished he were here now, to winkle the truth out of this damnable book. A sharp rap on the door heralded Jory Cassel. Ned closed Malleon's tome and bid him enter. "I've promised the City Watch twenty of my guard until the tourney is done," he told him. "I rely on you to make the choice. Give Alyn the command, and make certain the men understand that they are needed to stop fights, not start them." Rising, Ned opened a cedar chest and removed a light linen undertunic. "Did you find the stableboy?" "The watchman, my lord," Jory said. "He vows he'll never touch another horse." "What did he have to say?" "He claims he knew Lord Arryn well. Fast friends, they were." Jory snorted. "The Hand always gave the lads a copper on their name days, he says. Had a way with horses. Never rode his mounts too hard, and brought them carrots and apples, so they were always pleased to see him." "Carrots and apples," Ned repeated. It sounded as if this boy would be even less use than the others. And he was the last of the four Littlefinger had turned up. Jory had spoken to each of them in turn. Ser Hugh had been brusque and uninformative, and arrogant as only a new-made knight can be. If the Hand wished to talk to him, he should be pleased to receive him, but he would not be questioned by a mere captain of guards . . . even if said captain was ten years older and a hundred times the swordsman. The serving girl had at least been pleasant. She said Lord Jon had been reading more than was good for him, that he was troubled and melancholy over his young son's frailty, and gruff with his lady wife. The potboy, now cordwainer, had never exchanged so much as a word with Lord Jon, but he was full of oddments of kitchen gossip: the lord had been quarreling with the king, the lord only picked at his food, the lord was sending his boy to be fostered on Dragonstone, the lord had taken a great interest in the breeding of hunting hounds, the lord had visited a master armorer to commission a new suit of plate, wrought all in pale silver with a blue jasper falcon and a mother-of-pearl moon on the breast. The king's own brother had gone with him to help choose the design, the potboy said. No, not Lord Renly, the other one, Lord Stannis. "Did our watchman recall anything else of note?" "The lad swears Lord Jon was as strong as a man half his age. Often went riding with Lord Stannis, he says." Stannis again, Ned thought. He found that curious. Jon Arryn and he had been cordial, but never friendly. And while Robert had been riding north to Winterfell, Stannis had removed himself to Dragonstone, the Targaryen island fastness he had conquered in his brother's name. He had given no word as to when he might return. "Where did they go on these rides?" Ned asked. "The boy says that they visited a brothel." "A brothel?" Ned said. "The Lord of the Eyrie and Hand of the King visited a brothel with Stannis Baratheon?" He shook his head, incredulous, wondering what Lord Renly would make of this tidbit. Robert's lusts were the subject of ribald drinking songs throughout the realm, but Stannis was a different sort of man; a bare year younger than the king, yet utterly unlike him, stern, humorless, unforgiving, grim in his sense of duty. "The boy insists it's true. The Hand took three guardsmen with him, and the boy says they were joking of it when he took their horses afterward." "Which brothel?" Ned asked. "The boy did not know. The guards would." "A pity Lysa carried them off to the Vale," Ned said dryly. "The gods are doing their best to vex us. Lady Lysa, Maester Colemon, Lord Stannis . . . everyone who might actually know the truth of what happened to Jon Arryn is a thousand leagues away." "Will you summon Lord Stannis back from Dragonstone?" "Not yet," Ned said. "Not until I have a better notion of what this is all about and where he stands." The matter nagged at him. Why did Stannis leave? Had he played some part in Jon Arryn's murder? Or was he afraid? Ned found it hard to imagine what could frighten Stannis Baratheon, who had once held Storm's End through a year of siege, surviving on rats and boot leather while the Lords Tyrell and Redwyne sat outside with their hosts, banqueting in sight of his walls. "Bring me my doublet, if you would. The grey, with the direwolf sigil. I want this armorer to know who I am. It might make him more forthcoming." Jory went to the wardrobe. "Lord Renly is brother to Lord Stannis as well as the king." "Yet it seems that he was not invited on these rides." Ned was not sure what to make of Renly, with all his friendly ways and easy smiles. A few days past, he had taken Ned aside to show him an exquisite rose gold locklet. Inside was a miniature painted in the vivid Myrish style, of a lovely young girl with doe's eyes and a cascade of soft brown hair. Renly had seemed anxious to know if the girl reminded him of anyone, and when Ned had no answer but a shrug, he had seemed disappointed. The maid was Loras Tyrell's sister Margaery, he'd confessed, but there were those who said she looked like Lyanna. "No," Ned had told him, bemused. Could it be that Lord Renly, who looked so like a young Robert, had conceived a passion for a girl he fancied to be a young Lyanna? That struck him as more than passing queer. Jory held out the doublet, and Ned slid his hands through the armholes. "Perhaps Lord Stannis will return for Robert's tourney," he said as Jory laced the garment up the back. "That would be a stroke of fortune, my lord," Jory said. Ned buckled on a longsword. "In other words, not bloody likely." His smile was grim. Jory draped Ned's cloak across his shoulders and clasped it at the throat with the Hand's badge of office. "The armorer lives above his shop, in a large house at the top of the Street of Steel. Alyn knows the way, my lord." Ned nodded. "The gods help this potboy if he's sent me off haring after shadows." It was a slim enough staff to lean on, but the Jon Arryn that Ned Stark had known was not one to wear jeweled and silvered plate. Steel was steel; it was meant for protection, not ornament. He might have changed his views, to be sure. He would scarcely have been the first man who came to look on things differently after a few years at court . . . but the change was marked enough to make Ned wonder. "Is there any other service I might perform?" "I suppose you'd best begin visiting whorehouses." "Hard duty, my lord." Jory grinned. "The men will be glad to help. Porther has made a fair start already." Ned's favorite horse was saddled and waiting in the yard. Varly and Jacks fell in beside him as he rode through the yard. Their steel caps and shirts of mail must have been sweltering, yet they said no word of complaint. As Lord Eddard passed beneath the King's Gate into the stink of the city, his grey and white cloak streaming from his shoulders, he saw eyes everywhere and kicked his mount into a trot. His guard followed. He looked behind him frequently as they made their way through the crowded city streets. Tomard and Desmond had left the castle early this morning to take up positions on the route they must take, and watch for anyone following them, but even so, Ned was uncertain. The shadow of the King's Spider and his little birds had him fretting like a maiden on her wedding night. The Street of Steel began at the market square beside the River Gate, as it was named on maps, or the Mud Gate, as it was commonly called. A mummer on stilts was striding through the throngs like some great insect, with a horde of barefoot children trailing behind him, hooting. Elsewhere, two ragged boys no older than Bran were dueling with sticks, to the loud encouragement of some and the furious curses of others. An old woman ended the contest by leaning out of her window and emptying a bucket of slops on the heads of the combatants. In the shadow of the wall, farmers stood beside their wagons, bellowing out, "Apples, the best apples, cheap at twice the price," and "Blood melons, sweet as honey," and "Turnips, onions, roots, here you go here, here you go, turnips, onions, roots, here you go here." The Mud Gate was open, and a squad of City Watchmen stood under the portcullis in their golden cloaks, leaning on spears. When a column of riders appeared from the west, the guardsmen sprang into action, shouting commands and moving the carts and foot traffic aside to let the knight enter with his escort. The first rider through the gate carried a long black banner. The silk rippled in the wind like a living thing; across the fabric was blazoned a night sky slashed with purple lightning. "Make way for Lord Beric!" the rider shouted. "Make way for Lord Beric!" And close behind came the young lord himself, a dashing figure on a black courser, with red-gold hair and a black satin cloak dusted with stars. "Here to fight in the Hand's tourney, my lord?" a guardsman called out to him. "Here to win the Hand's tourney," Lord Beric shouted back as the crowd cheered. Ned turned off the square where the Street of Steel began and followed its winding path up a long hill, past blacksmiths working at open forges, freeriders haggling over mail shirts, and grizzled ironmongers selling old blades and razors from their wagons. The farther they climbed, the larger the buildings grew. The man they wanted was all the way at the top of the hill, in a huge house of timber and plaster whose upper stories loomed over the narrow street. The double doors showed a hunting scene carved in ebony and weirwood. A pair of stone knights stood sentry at the entrance, armored in fanciful suits of polished red steel that transformed them into griffin and unicorn. Ned left his horse with Jacks and shouldered his way inside. The slim young serving girl took quick note of Ned's badge and the sigil on his doublet, and the master came hurrying out, all smiles and bows. "Wine for the King's Hand," he told the girl, gesturing Ned to a couch. "I am Tobho Mott, my lord, please, please, put yourself at ease." He wore a black velvet coat with hammers embroidered on the sleeves in silver thread, Around his neck was a heavy silver chain and a sapphire as large as a pigeon's egg. "If you are in need of new arms for the Hand's tourney, you have come to the right shop." Ned did not bother to correct him. "My work is costly, and I make no apologies for that, my lord," he said as he filled two matching silver goblets. "You will not find craftsmanship equal to mine anywhere in the Seven Kingdoms, I promise you. Visit every forge in King's Landing if you like, and compare for yourself. Any village smith can hammer out a shirt of mail; my work is art." Ned sipped his wine and let the man go on. The Knight of Flowers bought all his armor here, Tobho boasted, and many high lords, the ones who knew fine steel, and even Lord Renly, the king's own brother. Perhaps the Hand had seen Lord Renly's new armor, the green plate with the golden antlers? No other armorer in the city could get that deep a green; he knew the secret of putting color in the steel itself, paint and enamel were the crutches of a journeyman. Or mayhaps the Hand wanted a blade? Tobho had learned to work Valyrian steel at the forges of Qohor as a boy. Only a man who knew the spells could take old weapons and forge them anew. "The direwolf is the sigil of House Stark, is it not? I could fashion a direwolf helm so real that children will run from you in the street," he vowed. Ned smiled. "Did you make a falcon helm for Lord Arryn?" Tobho Mott paused a long moment and set aside his wine. "The Hand did call upon me, with Lord Stannis, the king's brother. I regret to say, they did not honor me with their patronage." Ned looked at the man evenly, saying nothing, waiting. He had found over the years that silence sometimes yielded more than questions. And so it was this time. "They asked to see the boy," the armorer said, "so I took them back to the forge." "The boy," Ned echoed. He had no notion who the boy might be. "I should like to see the boy as well." Tobho Mott gave him a cool, careful look. "As you wish, my lord," he said with no trace of his former friendliness. He led Ned out a rear door and across a narrow yard, back to the cavernous stone barn where the work was done. When the armorer opened the door, the blast of hot air that came through made Ned feel as though he were walking into a dragon's mouth. Inside, a forge blazed in each corner, and the air stank of smoke and sulfur. Journeymen armorers glanced up from their hammers and tongs just long enough to wipe the sweat from their brows, while bare-chested apprentice boys worked the bellows. The master called over a tall lad about Robb's age, his arms and chest corded with muscle. "This is Lord Stark, the new Hand of the King," he told him as the boy looked at Ned through sullen blue eyes and pushed back sweat-soaked hair with his fingers. Thick hair, shaggy and unkempt and black as ink. The shadow of a new beard darkened his jaw. "This is Gendry. Strong for his age, and he works hard. Show the Hand that helmet you made, lad." Almost shyly, the boy led them to his bench, and a steel helm shaped like a bull's head, with two great curving horns. Ned turned the helm over in his hands. It was raw steel, unpolished but expertly shaped. "This is fine work. I would be pleased if you would let me buy it." The boy snatched it out of his hands. "It's not for sale." Tobho Mott looked horror-struck. "Boy, this is the King's Hand. If his lordship wants this helm, make him a gift of it. He honors you by asking." "I made it for me," the boy said stubbornly. "A hundred pardons, my lord," his master said hurriedly to Ned. "The boy is crude as new steel, and like new steel would profit from some beating. That helm is journeyman's work at best. Forgive him and I promise I will craft you a helm like none you have ever seen." "He's done nothing that requires my forgiveness. Gendry, when Lord Arryn came to see you, what did you talk about?" "He asked me questions is all, m'lord." "What sort of questions?" The boy shrugged. "How was I, and was I well treated, and if I liked the work, and stuff about my mother. Who she was and what she looked like and all." "What did you tell him?" Ned asked. The boy shoved a fresh fall of black hair off his forehead. "She died when I was little. She had yellow hair, and sometimes she used to sing to me, I remember. She worked in an alehouse." "Did Lord Stannis question you as well?" "The bald one? No, not him. He never said no word, just glared at me, like I was some raper who done for his daughter." "Mind your filthy tongue," the master said. "This is the King's own Hand." The boy lowered his eyes. "A smart boy, but stubborn. That helm . . . the others call him bullheaded, so he threw it in their teeth." Ned touched the boy's head, fingering the thick black hair. "Look at me, Gendry." The apprentice lifted his face. Ned studied the shape of his jaw, the eyes like blue ice. Yes, he thought, I see it. "Go back to your work, lad. I'm sorry to have bothered you." He walked back to the house with the master. "Who paid the boy's apprentice fee?" he asked lightly. Mott looked fretful. "You saw the boy. Such a strong boy. Those hands of his, those hands were made for hammers. He had such promise, I took him on without a fee." "The truth now," Ned urged. "The streets are full of strong boys. The day you take on an apprentice without a fee will be the day the Wall comes down. Who paid for him?" "A lord," the master said reluctantly. "He gave no name, and wore no sigil on his coat. He paid in gold, twice the customary sum, and said he was paying once for the boy, and once for my silence." "Describe him." "He was stout, round of shoulder, not so tall as you. Brown beard, but there was a bit of red in it, I'll swear. He wore a rich cloak, that I do remember, heavy purple velvet worked with silver threads, but the hood shadowed his face and I never did see him clear." He hesitated a moment. "My lord, I want no trouble." "None of us wants trouble, but I fear these are troubled times, Master Mott," Ned said. "You know who the boy is." "I am only an armorer, my lord. I know what I'm told." "You know who the boy is," Ned repeated patiently. "That is not a question." "The boy is my apprentice," the master said. He looked Ned in the eye, stubborn as old iron. "Who he was before he came to me, that's none of my concern." Ned nodded. He decided that he liked Tobho Mott, master armorer. "If the day ever comes when Gendry would rather wield a sword than forge one, send him to me. He has the look of a warrior. Until then, you have my thanks, Master Mott, and my promise. Should I ever want a helm to frighten children, this will be the first place I visit." His guard was waiting outside with the horses. "Did you find anything, my lord?" Jacks asked as Ned mounted up. "I did," Ned told him, wondering. What had Jon Arryn wanted with a king's bastard, and why was it worth his life?
