The Aenead so far is a lot less of a shit show that the iliad. Tho only read book 1. Some notable things tho:
- Venus sprinkled her son is sexy dust
- Juno went to the winds like, yo I'll give u brood mare wife if u start a storm to kill those Trojans over there, winds went, bet.
- iulus seems to be between a year old and 13, we do not know, he says his first word after he has done archery and ridden a horse.
- oh and love is an infection.

This is a case of same name confusion. I'm not sure what your sources are, but Menoetius the Titan died during the titanomachy, therefore didn't exist when humans did (if you follow the myth that Prometheus created humans after the titanomachy).
He was also banished into Tartarus and well, as you can imagine, he either had to miraculously climb his way out of Tartarus or be revived for this to be possible... And that's unlikely as hell.

Thank you theoid.com

Here are other quotes from the classic literature that point to the fact that Zeus killed Menoetius. Not a single one of these sources say he came back to life later on and had Patroclus.
Tumblr media
Commentary from theoi.com says that the herdsman of Hades could have been the same Menoetius/Menoites but nowhere do they say that Patroclus' father and the titan could have been one in the same. Because again. The titan literally died.
I've scoured several different sites, those that I trust much less than theoi but not a single one says that these two people were the same. They just have the same name, they aren't the same people. None of them credit them as being Patroclus father, in fact they all mention that Menoetius of Opus and Menoetius the Titan have the same name but are not the same person.
We have this problem everywhere in Greek mythology. Saying they're the same is like saying Eurydice wife of Nestor and Eurydice the nymph and wife of Orpheus are the same. Or literally name any of Nestor's children and you'll find that almost all of them have a name in common with someone else. It's just like in real life, my dead name is freakishly common, I even share my first and last legal names with someone else I attended high school with. But we aren't the same people.
Fun fact about Achilles and Patroclus:
While between their relationship most people seem to think that Achilles is the divine one and Patroclus is just a simple moral, that is not the case.
When we see Patroclus' family we know that his father(and the one who gave him to Peleus) is referred to as Menoetius. Who is Menoetius? He is both the King of Opus AND a son of Iapetus and Clymene or Asia. This makes him a brother of Prometheus and Epimetheus and a second-generation titan. He's the titan of Rashness. (in some sources it is said that he was killed by Zeus in the Titanomachy but they all credit him with being the father of Patroclus so idk)
And while Patroclus is an exile he's still the biological son of Menoetius, meaning that he has divine blood in him.
So yes, Achilles is still a demi-god, but Patroclus is also a demi-titan. Keep that in mind next time.

...Then Diomed prayed, saying, "Hear me, daughter of aegis-bearing Jove, unweariable, if ever you loved my father well and stood by him in the thick of a fight, do the like now by me; grant me to come within a spear's throw of that man and kill him. He has been too quick for me and has wounded me; and now he is boasting that I shall not see the light of the sun much longer."

Do you think that Odysseus has become a kind of running joke among the gods, like when we joke about cockroachs' survivability?
For example some mortal is surviving stuff that rly should've killed him, and someone on Olympus says "is he pulling an Odysseus on us?" and everyone laughs
