Odysseus dies during the war and by the laws of combat/due to some prophecy stating that only a war strategy from the mind of Laertiades will cause the fall of Troy, Telemachus is brought to the shores of Troy.
10 year old Telemachus, who has never even held a weapon before, who was hiding behind his teary-eyed mother's skirts when they came to fetch him.
Penelope falling to her knees, clutching the feet of the ones trying to take her son away and begging to not do this, that she has just lost her husband, that she cannot lose a son too, that her boy is so young. That her brother-in-law Eurylochus can avenge her husband.
Grief-stricken Diomedes, hovering and protecting Telemachus, risking his own life time and time again to ensure Telemachus' safety. Fighting with all the commanders to keep him from the battlefield as much as possible.
Athena always standing behind Telemachus, for the first time making her presence evidently known, lending as much as strength, wisdom and courage as she can to her Champion's son.
Eurylochus, Polites and the other Ithacans being so enraged at Telemachus' presence here, he is just a boy, their Prin– their King. He shouldn't be here. But he is, so they do their best to take care of him and ignore their breaking heart everytime Telemachus looks at them with Odysseus' face and speaks with Odysseus' voice, knowing that he is the last piece of their king they have left.

"Hector was a good man" "diomedes was an honorable man" BZZZT WRONG. Diomedes was there to steal, burn, and wage war same as the next person. In fact, he was pretty adamant about it. Hector had no issue with the greek's actions, merely that they were directed at him—I mean look at what he wanted to do with patroclus's body, only to then cite respect for funeral rites when it was his own turn to die. Hector also owned slaves within his own city walls—people that he likely took from their homes during troy's own conquests. All that seperated him and the greek warriors was which side they were on.
The Iliad isn't a story about morally upstanding men. Sure, it has men who have honor and perform honorable acts, but these are not good samaritans. It's is a story about war and grief and the real victims of fights between so-called-honorable men and gods. The urge to find a "good guy" in this story is wasted. Hector doesn't have to be morally good just because achilles isn't. Troy didn't lose because they were more or less evil than the greeks. It all just. Is. Because of fate? Because the gods said so? Because people will always make disastrous mistakes and it will always end up biting not only them, but everyone else around them? Who knows? In the end though, doesn't it all feel so pointless in the face of the endless amounts of grief and destruction that war leaves behind? Maybe that's the whole point

Odysseus: Beloved by Athena
Gets hit by a boar who barely misses his bone and arteries. Is called to a 10 year war he never wished to be in and is being pushed by his peers do the most dirty work and traumatizing things. Single-handedly conquers a city and regrets it his whole life afterwards, spends 10 years in an arduous trip losing all his companions in the most nightmarish ways possible gets imprisoned and raped, enchanted and shipwrecked nearly loses his life and comes back to his house to find it full of thug princes who want to marry his wife and kill his son. He has to kill them all then prepare for a riot in his own kingdom that doesn't happen thankfully and then he will have to travel again to appease Poseidon before he can finally return home.
Diomedes: Beloved by Athena
Is orphaned at toddler/child age because his father was mortally wounded and in a moment of madness he performed cannibalism and Athena wasn't able to stop him. He is sworn revenge for his father since a child. He fights a war at a tender age he becomes a king of his own right and gets married probably before the age of 16. He fights another war to restore his grandfather to the throne. He is dragged to a 10 year long war where he plays central role and he is still pushed around by most his peers. He goes back to find his wife cheating on him and he is exiled of his own kingdom. He spends years in a foreign land and country founding cities and establishing hellenism before he is honored as a God.
Me: Athena, my girl...perhaps you should start worrying a bit LESS for your minions would ya?

Diomedes and Ody's reunion after 10 years. Penelope of course is the real trooper here but we love a good bromance.

...Then Diomed prayed, saying, "Hear me, daughter of aegis-bearing Jove, unweariable, if ever you loved my father well and stood by him in the thick of a fight, do the like now by me; grant me to come within a spear's throw of that man and kill him. He has been too quick for me and has wounded me; and now he is boasting that I shall not see the light of the sun much longer."

Tumblr media
how about all 3 :)
As for the GF x Odyssey AU, if you’re asking how that collision of ideas happened in my brain…uh it’s because I’m mentally ill and my current fixations are Gravity Falls and Epic/The Odyssey 😁 (if you meant something else…uhh then idk what you mean by that question if it’s not the one I answered haha)

Has this been done before?
Odysseus: Fine, but if we all die during the war, I'm hiring Polites's ghost to teach me the lyre so I can annoy the hell out of your ghost Eurylochus: I'll just hire Diomedes's ghost to kick your ass Diomedes: my ghost will not associate with your ghost
