We're all safe here after Hurricane Helene. The winds broke my back door, so we have some water damage, but nothing major and nothing life-changing. We're very, very lucky that's all it was.
#still sucks to have to pay to fix it though#it'll cost less to fix than my home insurance deductible so i'd rather just do it myself and not raise my rates with a claim#but like#christmas is coming and i still haven't fixed my bathroom sink#needing money to do things is the worst#whose idea was it

Overall I think I'm doing okay, all things considered. Keeping busy, keeping productive. I'm also prone to bouts of emotionality though, like being offhandedly handed a UPS Keychain & being unable to explain to the strangers around me why it made me so emotional beyond just "my dad used to work there". Or perusing through a thrift store's shirts, seeing one that looked a lot like the style of a lot of the shirts I'm taking from my dad's closet, and feeling like my heart's been squeezed...
I haven't cried in a few days. I'm trying my best to not let it get to me too much. I hate being too emotional. So I'm just trying to live my life, and most of the time it's fine. I just feel a little raw on occasion, and it's hard to judge what the triggers will be.
Such is grief, I guess.
#speculation nation#it's late. i fell asleep on the futon for a few hours. and i am up yet again.#my girlfriend went home for the evening but she mentioned being back tomorrow (today. since it's past midnight lol)#to help with prepping my apartment some more for saturday#shes been. so very sweet to me. i certainly wouldnt have gotten as far as i am with the place as quickly as i did w/o her help.#it's so clean. and will only get cleaner...#she even took me to the bank so i could get a deposit slip for my life insurance claim 🥺🥺🥺🥺#im just. shes been so sweet and supportive. even asked me if i wanted to talk about Things#the current things. (the things im trying to not think about so much). it was rly sweet & thoughtful#things are still really raw. but ive got good support. and im really very grateful.

If I keep getting news that implies I won’t be back in my own home for months yet, I genuinely am not sure I’m gonna make it.
#‘there’s actually moisture under the floor upstairs now too’#+ a complicated email from the contractors that sounds like they don’t think they can do the job after all#+ insurance still refusing to commit to the money we need for replacing the plasterwork#+ the fact that there’s a second claim in progress now#like. I need. you all. to fix it. I need you to fix it.#not ‘whoops we broke your tv in the demo’#not ‘whoops still can’t schedule anything’#I need. it. fixed.#if I can’t go home until summer or fall or fucking next year I truly think I’m going to give up

How to File a Claim Under Your Multirisk Home Insurance: A Step-by-Step Guide
Filing an application for an insurance claim is something you do only in an emergency. So naturally this is a situation you don’t remember the manual of the claim process. You’ve been advised by your agent when purchasing a policy or got guidance multiple times over the phone.
This guide will walk you through the steps to file a multirisk home insurance claim. You will be better prepared to handle any unfortunate events that may affect your home. You can approach it with confidence and ease, maximizing the benefits of your insurance coverage.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/4a5b1958cfb0fc47e48eec2ac6363c07/878120aa9189c170-32/s540x810/a077c12564bdc390024692a2f9eae29c9360067b.jpg)
1. Assess the Damage and Ensure Safety
When disaster strikes, your first priority is safety. Once you've ensured everyone is safe:
Assess the extent of the damage
Take immediate steps to prevent further damage, if possible
Remember, your multirisk home insurance policy likely requires you to take reasonable steps to protect your property from additional harm. This could mean covering broken windows or turning off the water supply in case of a leak.
2. Contact Your Insurance Provider
Reach out to your insurance company as soon as possible. Many insurers offer 24/7 claim reporting through phone lines or mobile apps. Have your policy number ready and provide a clear, concise description of what happened. Quick action is crucial, as delays might complicate your claim.
3. Document Everything
Thorough documentation is key to a smooth claims process:
Take photos and videos of the damage from various angles
Make a list of damaged items, including their estimated value and purchase date
Keep receipts for any emergency repairs or temporary accommodations
This evidence will support your claim and help ensure fair compensation.
4. Fill Out the Claim Form
Your insurer will provide a claim form. Fill it out carefully and accurately. Include all relevant details about the incident and the resulting damage. If you're unsure about anything, don't hesitate to ask your insurance agent for clarification.
5. Prepare for the Adjuster's Visit
An insurance adjuster will likely visit your home to assess the damage in person. Before their visit:
Gather any additional documentation you have about your home and its contents
Be prepared to walk the adjuster through the damage
Consider getting repair estimates from trusted contractors
Remember, the adjuster's role is to help determine the extent of your insurer's liability under your multirisk home insurance policy.
These steps will help you in your multirisk home insurance claim process. It’s important to understand each of these steps is broad in reality and you need to stay in connection with your insurance agent or broker. They are your first line of contact and original assistance provider. They will tell what your insurance company says or decode terms that you generally don’t understand. Don't hesitate to ask questions or seek clarification at any point.
