Whumptober/Whumperless Whump Event (WWE) - #17

No WWE this time!

The fight was finally over and Omega poked her head out from behind the crates she’d been using as cover. Through the dirt kicked up by the wind, she could see Crosshair limping towards her. All of the bad men were on the ground, unmoving, so she decided it was safe enough to come out of her hiding spot.

She ran to Crosshair and slammed into him, wrapping her arms around his slim frame. She’d been so scared and she was so relieved that he was alright. Or, at least so she thought.

Crosshair groaned through gritted teeth and doubled over, clutching his side.

“Crosshair?” What’s wrong?” Omega asked, panicking as her cousin dropped to his knees and pulled his hand away from his side. It was covered in blood. Omega’s eyes went wide. “Crosshair? Crosshair!”

But he didn’t respond. Perhaps he couldn’t. All he could do was collapse to the ground, unconscious before his head hit the dirt.

Hunter and the others had arrived a few minutes later to find Omega kneeling over an unconscious and bleeding Crosshair. They’d rushed him into the nearest building to get him out of the dust storm and summoned the doctor to tend to him.

A lot of dirt had already been blown into the stab wound in his side and it took a while to clean it all out. Hunter was glad Crosshair wasn’t awake for that part. He was still asleep now, a slight sheen of sweat covering his brow as he fought off the infection that had set in. Luckily, the doc wasn’t too worried about it.

Hunter wrung out a damp cloth and placed it on Crosshair’s head. Sitting back down with a sigh, he turned his attention to the room’s other occupant.

Omega sat in the chair on the opposite side of Crosshair’s bed. She’d refused to leave his side through the entire ordeal, insisting that she needed to make sure he was alright. Even in the room’s dim light, Hunter could see the glint of tears she was trying to hold back. 

Hunter smiled fondly and a little sadly.

Omega had developed a deep and personal connection to all of her cousins; each relationship was special and unique in its own way. With Hunter, it was almost a father-daughter relationship. Tech was like an older brother whom she followed around and asked a million questions. Wrecker was almost like her twin—both of them bursting with childlike energy and mischief. Even Echo, who wasn’t related by blood, had become an honorary cousin and he had quickly become the mother hen of the group.

But with Crosshair, it was different. There was an especially tight bond between the two, one that Hunter couldn’t quite define. He and Omega’s mother had been almost closer than family, seemingly kindred spirits. Her loss had affected him the hardest. But finding Omega, the spitting image of their lost cousin, it had awoken that same connection within Crosshair, and Omega had felt it, too. And it terrified her to see him hurt like this.

He got up and walked around the bed to kneel next to her, placing a hand on her small shoulder.

“He’ll be alright, Omega.”

And that’s all it took.

The dam broke. Omega’s tears started streaming down her face and she wrapped her arms around Hunter’s neck in a desperate hug.

Hunter returned her embrace and lifted her up so he could sit in the chair while he cradled her in his arms.

“It’s okay,” he soothed. “Everything is going to be just fine.”

Before too long, Omega fell asleep as Hunter held her. He sat there listening to both hers and Crosshair’s calm breathing.

Everything would be alright.

Bruce definitely trained all the Robins to abandon him if things got bad. He'd give them scenarios like him trapped under something in a fire, hypothermic conditions, he's too injured, and they need to get information to Lucius, and the list goes on. And to date, the only bit of training his kids have continually failed, whether in simulation or practice, is failing to leave him behind.

Vassago vs Asmodeus

The most egregious thing about Asmodeus in Mastermind isn't his lack of action. It's how he participates in and upholds corrupt systems of power. When Satan asserts the he is the law, all of the Sins rise from their seats to sing backup for Satan. "He is the law".

You know who doesn't participate? Vassago.

On top of being the only Goetia to question the trial, he was also the only one who didn't harmonize along with Satan when he was asserting his absolute power and authority. Vassago, having no context or prior knowledge, only having the information that was fed to him, could sense that something was wrong and refused to participate in it. Asmodeus, knowing more about the situation than anyone else in the room, knowing the true nature of Stolas' and Blitz' relationship, remained quiet. He only spoke up once, and only after Bee spoke first. He raised his hand in wanting a more complete trial, but he stood behind Satan all the same. He upheld the corruption and abuse of power, knowing fully well that Satan was in the wrong. Refusing to participate in corrupt power structures is already something we've seen in the Hellaverse with Vaggie and Emily. And yes, Vaggie and Emily also faced consequences for refusing to participate. And no, their individual actions weren't enough to change anything either. So what? Vaggie, Emily, and Vassago stood by their morals. They did what was right. They saw corruption and abuse, and spoke out and refused to participate. Even if your actions and words have no sway or power, you're supposed to do what's right, and refuse to participate in what's wrong. It's probably true that even if Asmodeus had spoken out, the outcome wouldn't have changed. And while not speaking out, and hiding the truth he was sitting on is a big issue, that's not the point I'm trying to make here. Asmodeus saw corruption and abuse, and willingly participated in it and upheld it. Asmodeus has proven that he will protect the hierarchy of Hell above what is right, that he will protect and uphold it even when he knows that what it's doing is wrong. And that he will even uphold it over Fizz and to Fizz's detriment. Vassago didn't participate. Emily and Vaggie didn't participate. Asmodeus did.

scar headcanon i can't put into a fic but is still Important To Me:

After getting taken out of secret life by Grian/ after Grian practically tells him the wildcard for the random spawning session, Scar knows that Grian's a watcher.

Scar returns to the sunflower field because it's safe, and it's home. Grian made the sunflower field for him so that he couldn't Stop Existing- he's still bound to protect him, and has been ever since 3rd life.

Which means that Scar doesn't feel afraid, or alone, stuck in secret life. Because he knows Grian's Watching him. And he makes little offerings to Grian and grows sunflowers for him and tells him how his day's been. And Grian can't really respond, per se, but the sun shines brighter some days and the wind whistles through the trees in a way that almost sounds like words...

The thing about Hua Cheng is that there is in fact two wolves inside him and one is the very cool extremely competent hopeless romantic ghost that rose to power to support the love of his life whenever he needed him and the other one is the cringefail 10 year old who saw a boy so pretty he forgot to hate the world and instead took a nose dive of a giant wall because he was experiencing being a fangirl for the first time and both those wolves start fighting when Xie Lian throws hands.
