Yes I would like to keep doing those! I got about halfway through both The Wild Road and The Plague Dogs last year and I was enjoying them both a lot but I don't have so much time to read these days so I fell off the wagon a bit 🥲 I also got kinda burnt out on xenofiction lol I've been more into psychological horror stuff (if anyone has recs in this genre hmu... I want more weird esoteric fiction) and I've been listening to some classic horror lit on audiobook recently. I will get back to the animal books eventually though I swearrr

One xenofiction book I read a while back that I'd recommend is Fox 8 by George Saunders, it's quite short and pretty simple in premise but I liked it a lot and the illustrations are very cute. Also thank you very much 🫶🫶

As the resident Clint Barton Expert On My DashTM, do you know where to start with his comics? I haven't read anything of him yet and I'd like to start with his backstory/origin story/whatever you wanna call it, but I'm pretty sure there were like ? reboots??? So some comics aren't canon??? it may seem like i've read a ton of hawkeye comics, but i'm really the last person to ask for comic advice😭 i'v read the fraction/aja hawkeye run from 2012-2015 a few years ago bc it's basically everyone's favorite version of clint and so much of the comic clint stuff you see online is somewhat fraction-related lol (it's really good, highly recommend). i've only really started my comic journey a few months ago - with the financially irresponsible decision to treat myself to a marvel unlimited subscription lmao - and now i'm kinda reading whatever i want to without really caring about a logical order😭 it's all so overwhelming and confusing to me as well, and there's so many stuff i want to read but also so many stuff i don't give a fuck about lmaoo i don't really know where to start either, so don't take and of this as advie xD i've read clint's very first comic appearances (tales of suspense #57) and then i read a LOT of avengers (1963) issues, before i decided that i really didn't want to read hundreds of old ass issues before getting to enjoy the awesomeness of modern hawkeye, so i just stopped and read freefall and the tales of suspense run with bucky bc i'm a winterhawk girly and i needed some canon interactions, you can't blame me. i read the newer west coast avengers run (probably not the smartest movie, but i felt like i understood most of it) bc i really really really love kate and clint as a team, and then i read all-new hawkeye vol. 1 yesterday bc i wanted more clint and kate lol. so far i can recommend all of it, but if you want like a real origin story of clint, maybe you should start with the older ones ahahah pretty sure there's a ton of reading guides online somewhere, i just decided to be dumb and just read random stuff i find interesting xD

that being said, if anyone reading this has some recs for series i should definitely read (hawkeye or not, doesn't matter) that you don't need a ton of other knowledge for, feel free to hmu!!!

I first learned about shifting in early 2019. I tried and tried and tried over and over for two years before giving up entirely because I had no tangible results and was growing incredibly frustrated. On top of that, I was in a very toxic environnement with people constantly laughing about shifting, how it wasn't real, was ridiculous, etc, which made me feel dumb and have looooots of doubts. So I just gave up, and kinda just forgot about it.

And I then accidentally stumbled upon shiftblr, not knowing it existed, and it just seems like such a lovely community I'd love to interact with, and I think I'm starting to believe in spirituality again.

I still have a lot of doubts and am really insecure on top of having forgotten many things about shifting (including a lot of the vocab), so I need to re-learn a lot of things on my own. Any help is appreciated!

That being said, I'm really looking for friends to talk about shifting/my dr to, so if I seem cool to you, just hmu!! I'm friendly :)

Another way I'd write my twist on myth!Logyn would have them be dysfunctional, not because he's abusive or callous, but because they're fundamentally different people. They married out of convenience to assure jotun-aesir alliance and she was young and wide eyed and idealistic expecting a prince charming in him, but got a man who's always sleeping around and almost never settles home and it frustrates her and her expectations frustrate him and they argue every once in a while. But then, tragedy strikes: their sons are killed, Loki's tied on the cave, and it's finally there, together just the two of them with no other company, that they finally get to know each other and see eye to eye for the first time and develop a newfound sense of respect and companionship. Logyn shippers like to imagine they had a fairy tale marriage abruptly made tragic by Loki's predicament, but I love the IRONY of the cave being the thing that brings them together.

That's great! Tragedy bringing them together, and the dysfunctionality seems very plausible in a way that doesn't turn Sigyn into a waif with no agency or Jokerify Loki (I like how that's a term for me now "the Jokerification of Loki", lol). If you write it, hmu.

So there was this book I read (I shipped Logyn on the first half until they Jokerified Loki D": ) where they bond over Sleipnir (Sigyn sees Loki is a good parent) and were forced to marry to keep Loki from Sif, as him and Sif were a bit too close. I really enjoyed it while it lasted but Loki turned very abusive halfway through the book because "madness".

What fic would you want to rewrite one day? Frankly, all of them. I'm impatient and publish first drafts and I think they deserve some reworking. They're fine for now but if I ever want these to become a portfolio, they'll need some serious editing. This might be the right time to confess that all my fics are written by a possessed author, reread for typos once then published as they are. Y'all are tapping directly into my brain here.

I don't usually write magic systems because im worried about getting bogged down in the details and mechanics so I'm going super general and what I find fun. Everyone's magic is different, and it can change and warp as someone lives. I think thta as children everyone's magic manifests in the same way (not sure how quite sure how just yet) and as they come into their own person it gets personalized to that specific person. Raphael's emerged as small blue flames because he felt small but had a lot of energy and fire inside him. It warped and changed from trauma to reflect on his body as that's where most of his trauma concentrated. His ability to still summon the small flames if he tries really hard is due to him still having that spirit deep down.

The other thing that I wanna explore is that corrupted magic isn't like, inherently harmful. Its just the same as when magic initially changes, its just a reflection of what the user has gone through in life and who that person is. I know that sounds like im calling Raphael a monster because of his beast design, but it only looks like that because that's what Raphael sees himself as. Raphael isn't able to control his corrupted magic because he supresses it and refuses to understand it. It's a monster to be locked away and not thought about. He doesn't want to accept that that's him.

And just because I'm not sure when I'm going to talk about it, Lionel's magic as a kid used to manifest as small yellow flowers sprouting out of his hands. To again symbolize how small he felt and how fragile he was. I would need to really draw what his magic manifested after full corruption though. Both of these he's locked out of due to the churchs repression spell however

but uhhhh, shoot, i think i was probablyyyyyy 6 or 7 with goliath from gargoyles from early 90s??? maybe??? not too positive tbh, it had been a very long time for me. i remembered having a bit of a crush on demona too…i think her name was? the kid me was shocked to see that yes, you can pair a human up with an inhuman character, but i didn't exactly fall in the monsterfucker genre too deep until probably the mid2010s. that genre just wasn't popular before then and the internet was sorta…pretty vanilla then too, at least in my usual internet hang-outs.

oh man, ben 10. i barely remembered half the shits about that show lol watched the kid era from the beginning to the end and missed out a few on the teen era (i missed gwen's sass ngl), but i definitely lost all interest when its creator passed and the jerkwads at cartoon network or whatever company it was rebooted it from scratch and completely disrespected the creator's wishes??? like why lmao and the new style was hideous, so i p much dropped out from ben10 since and don't keep up with it at all.

that said, i certainly did write several alien pieces, including the classic martian aliens in ufo one if you're interested! the latter was very nondescript so you're welcome to imagine whatever alien appearance you'd prefer :)

Yeah, character limits are a pain, but that is pretty interesting that people have only said anything about that after a certain amount of time. I wonder if that's because it reached a certain circle of fandom? Which probably explains your next couple questions actually :V

Honestly I'm not sure how much info you can get from me because it's been quite awhile since I've gone looking for fics. I can get pretty picky about the writing I want to read and give up scrolling through AO3 pages pretty quickly 😅

I've been in and out of various fandom spaces since I was like. In middle school. And I don't want to do the math but I graduated high school in 2007 so that gives you a rough idea. Interestingly enough, DDDNE wasn't really much of a thing; I honestly didn't really encounter it as a use for a tagging system until after I joined tumblr in around 2015-16 (because Undertale). Though largely I've been more involved in the role play side of things instead of the fanfic/fanart, so there's not a whole lot of tagging done to begin with. Last time I was big into the fic/art was.. I don't remember the years but whenever tf2chan was seeing some of its higher activity. Early 2010s, maybe? The stuff I was Huge into before that predates Arrested Development, with only a little bit of overlap. Oh there's also MLP:FiM but I read most of that on their own websites, not AO3. Different categorization systems.

You know, now that I'm sitting down and really trying to remember, I feel like I've encountered DDDNE as more of a descriptor than as use as a tag itself. That might be coloring my thoughts on it. I've read plenty of fics that sure fit DDDNE criteria, but weren't tagged with the phrase. A couple I can remember would be from Team Fortress 2, Undertale, My Little Pony, and Jak and Daxter. Like I'd call the Cupcakes MLP fic DDDNE but I don't think it was ever tagged as such.

Soooooo I caught danmei disease again, and for completely unrelated reasons, I've picked my Chinese studies back up! Since I started in September, I've passed HSK 1 (3.0) and am currently working on HSK 2.

At first, my progress was extremely fast because I was basically just relearning stuff I studied back in 2020, and I have money to spend on study resources now! I purchased a bundle on Pleco and bought some graded readers, which made a HUGE difference. I didn't realize how slow my progress had been in 2020 until I started making better progress a few months ago. Turns out, studying flashcards with only the occasional free lesson on Coursera is not an effective way to learn (who could've guessed, lol). With the help of my new resources, I learned/relearned almost 500 words in a month and made it through my first graded reader!

I started with the breakthrough level Mandarin Companion graded readers (150 words). My first one was extremely hard--it took me almost two weeks to read--but I got faster with each subsequent book. I'm currently working my way through the level one readers (300 words) and the first Imagin8 Press Journey to the West reader (600 words). I've found the 600 word Imagin8 Press reader to be a little simpler in grammatical complexity than the 300 word Mandarin Companion readers, so even though I have to look up a lot more words while I'm reading, it's a little easier to understand overall. I've also noticed that I need to have about 2X as many words in my Pleco deck as are used in a reader to be completely comfortable while reading them; I think vocabulary count is a little deflated in the whole industry for some reason (or maybe I just suck at choosing words for my flashcard deck).

I think the Mandarin Companion novels are extremely well-made. They use a lot of more advanced grammar concepts while still being readable at early stages of language learning, and are really good about repeating words/phrases so you can learn through repetition. In short, I've been extremely impressed with them. The Imagin8 Press reader is a little lower in quality overall (specifically, I REALLY dislike how they have pinyin next to every page of hanzi. It makes the ebook borderline unreadable), but makes up for that by having an incredible free audiobook version on youtube. I plan on rereading it later while listening along.

Unfortunately, I got too accustomed to the fast progress of my first two months, because my recent slower progress has been a bit demoralizing. I've only added 300 words to my Pleco deck in the last two months, and I've only finished one level 1 graded reader (though, to be fair, I've also been spending less time studying, and I'm officially out of the relearning phase). I'm losing a little bit of motivation because I've finally realized how truly massive of a task it is to learn Mandarin (Dunning-Kruger effect, lol). My goal of reading native novels has never felt further away, and I'm sure that feeling will continue to grow as I learn more.

For now, I'm exploring more ways to study Chinese. I'm starting to hit a wall when it comes to grammar--even if I know every word in one of my graded readers, it's becoming more and more common for me to be unable to understand whole sentences because the grammar is too unfamiliar to me. I've purchased an HSK 2 level textbook along with a dedicated book on Chinese grammar, and I'm considering purchasing a couple months of a Duchinese subscription (since r/Chinese_Language can't shut up about how good Duchinese is, lmao). I've also considered hiring a tutor on iTalki, but it's so expensive that I don't know if I can justify the cost
