Murder, kidnappings, and corruption.
These are just some of the best known crimes of anti-communist Peruvian dictator Alberto Fujimori, who has just died. A few months ago he had claimed he would run for president again.

the worst part about having an embarrassing amount of knowledge about your hyperfixation is having to repress the urge to correct people when they talk about it bc u don't want to be an asshole but at the same time u Need to Share and Protect the Knowledge for the Good of All Mankind

Huge shout-out to my friend who lets me indulge my hyperfixations and somehow managed to track down a photo of my old high school history notes on the French revolution??
Tumblr media
Some higlights!
Headline: The Impact of the French Revolution (on the Czech Lands) (which was part of the Austrian Empire back then, making it just a bit more spicy)
After the fall of the Bastille in 1780, the revolution gains traction, making Austrian authorities uneasy
Leopold II. (Austrian emperor) knows it is important to filter the news getting to Austria from France
The news about the revolution are apparently more censored in Czech-language newspaper than the German ones, since the Czechs were known to rebel against authorities (kind of a "don't want to give them any ideas" type of situation") -> this meant that Czechs who spoke German would have had better access to the news about the French Revolution
The French Revolution would have more support in the Czech intellectual circles, compared to the countryside
a first disinformation campaign was launched in the Austrian newspaper, focused on making the French Revolution look as bad as possible (designed to protect the "traditional regime = the right solution" narrative)
This was contrasted with the experiences of real French people brought to the Czech lands by French soldiers (e. g. during the Napoleonic Wars - the Battle of Austerlitz, arguably the most important battle on our territory)
it also says that the French army was apparently viewed largely positively by Czech people and that the soldiers generally behaved quite decently? (I guess there's a really low bar for a behaviour of a foreign army but still. This surprised me, definitely not something I remembered from my class!)
After the ideas of the French Revolution spread to our country, it influenced the intellectual climate and made people rethink the status quo under the Austrian rule
last point (in all caps for some reason lol): FIRST RECORDER TIME IN WHICH THE STATE USED A DISINFORMATION CAMPAIGN, trying to paint France in a bad light
you also get to witness my horrible handwriting I guess~

Anyway… seeing as I do not personally specify in Tudor history despite being a very junior member of the society of creative anarchism and an American Revolution patriot unit in Philadelphia… @theladyelizabeth and @marythequeen are great Tudor oriented accounts that are not specifically all about Anne Boleyn/The Six Wives of Henry VIII. Also, @elysabeththequeene is a cool person. Anyway, this has been a PSA, follow them!

Hey History Tumblr! I’m looking for resources in regards to the lives of people in Venice during the 15th century. The classes, economics, jobs, what were family laws. Age of marriage, big families (if any). How did the people live, festivals, rituals. I’m finding a bunch of things about the Ottomans and the trade but I’m hoping for the equivalent of ‘widow and ward in medieval England’ type books for Venice. What were the households like, inheritance? Noble class vs merchant classes, etc. books are love, documentaries also great (I have a dvd set from my trip to Venice but it’s currently packed away and more of a high level overview)
Tagging history friends even though I know you’re British history: @theladyelizabeth @mihrsuri @harritudur @english-history-trip @queenemaker

I sometimes wonder if people realize how powerful Anne Boleyn really was. This woman was so hot that England changed religions! She had Henry by the balls for a while and I wish it stayed that way. She will always be my fav of his wives in both the tudors show and in real life. She was such a badass! I know she didn't pursue Henry but still

Hey sociology/fandom history Tumblr can I ask for book/paper recs?
After multiple years of being pushed out of fandom spaces by White Woman Fandom Elders for being Too Autistic, I want to explore how the white millennial/gen x womanhood of fandom is intertwined with ableism, transphobia/cisnormativity, and ageism to make sense of my experience. Obviously there's probably not one book or paper that covers this and I know a lot of the literature is centered on antiblackness and misogynoir, but do y'all know of any sources that could shed light on this? Would super appreciate it.

History community, my dears! Today, I present to you…
A ✨request✨.
It would be odd to ask anyone aside from you, and you’ll find out why very shortly.
Essentially, if any of you have any historical clothing patterns, may I request that you quite possibly send some to me? Or, of course, you could simply repost here with them or comment with them. I would like to start sewing some historical clothing for myself.
Now you can see how this would be quite an odd request to those who are not, as we are here, a gaggle of history nerds. (I say “gaggle of history nerds” with immense amounts of love, as I’m sure you all know by now.)
Many thanks! God bless, <3

Hey, History Tumblr, need some help. I’ve been thinking of adding epigraphs (quotations included at the start of a book) to each volume of my Hamilton historical fiction series, ideally each being a quote about Hamilton from someone else talking about some aspect of Hamilton as a person (a character trait or some fancy comparison) that would allude to events within the book. For instance, this quote shared by @46ten that I’m considering for one of the later volumes. I am aware that there is a diary entry from someone directly comparing Hamilton to Cicero (during either the Constitutional Convention or the New York Ratifying Convention I believe?) that I’d also love to use, but can’t find it.
Here is The American Icarus volume breakdown of events for reference in regards to what I’m looking for:
Vol. 1: 1768-1778 (Hamilton’s childhood up through the Battle of Monmouth)
Vol. 2: 1778-1782 (Post-Monmouth up to Hamilton leaving for his congressional term in 1782-83)
Vol. 3: 1782-1788 (Hamilton’s congressional term up through the New York Ratifying Convention)
Vol. 4: 1788-1795 (Hamilton’s tenure as Secretary of Treasury)
Vol. 5: 1795-1804 (Hamilton’s return to his law practice up to his death)
If anyone has any suggestions for some good quotes I’d love to hear them, and thank you so much in advance to anyone who decides to help out—you’re amazing! If not, I’d love if you could share this post so others can see it :)

The chart does not capture the astonishing fact that these accomplishments were achieved under brutal sanctions imposed by the world’s superpower. Viva la revolución.
They also have ad-free TV ✌️📺 (you don’t need commercials with Socialism).

History-Tumblr Question
Tumblr hive-mind, does anyone know of any good resource of historical research?
In this instance I'm looking for english-language resources regarding Mediaeval Novgorod/ Pskov and its surrounding regions, especially culture/clothing/fighting habits. I have to learn a lot in a very short amount of time and it is a struggle.

Fun fact: Samuel Clemens, better known as Mark Twain was born November 30, 1835, in Florida, Missouri. That same day Halley's Comet could be seen lighting up the night sky, two weeks after the perihelion. In 1909 Mark Twain commented, "I came in with Halley's Comet in 1835. It is coming again next year, and I expect to go out with it. It will be the greatest disappointment of my life if I don't go out with Halley's Comet. The Almighty has said, with no doubt: 'Now here are these unaccountable freaks; they came in together, they must go out together.'" Twain would pass away on April 21, 1910, in Stormfield, Redding, Connecticut, one day after Haley's comet reached its perihelion.
