I do headcanon the states before the WW2 of being abusive. Why? Because the morals and standards of the times allowed them to be good men... Back THEN. By modern standards, the way people behaved and raised their kids is... Really bad.

However the states represent the beliefs and actions of the people. And back then they were different people.

Same with Gov.

I'm currently in rendering hell right now as I'm finishing up some wttt Vermont doodles, and so in the mean time Ima take a break and share some of my head canons for Vermont - so here we gooo!

Vermont has a very obvious farmer's tan. No matter how much sunscreen he puts on, poor VT gets assaulted by the sun no matter what.

Vermont, Maine, Colorado, and Alaska go camping together every year. These states specifically bc of the average wilderness experience most people in said places end up having. Alaska tolerates these guys the most out of the lower 48, and VT is also sort of reclusive and quiet so Alaska and Vermont are buds.

VT skis and Colorado snowboards, they both like to hit the mountains & trails every year together

Vermont has tattoos! He's got maple leaves, a hermit thrush (VT's state bird), just a lot of nature related ink.

Vermont doesn't own a car, he has a motorcycle.

His aesthetic is along the lines of cryptidcore, goblincore, overall a very green sort of grunge.

He can speak French (due to him bordering Quebec, and VT was populated by a lot of French soldiers/immigrants during 1600-1900s.)

Louisiana and Vermont would probably be quite good friends. I can imagine Loui saying something in his lovely Louisiana French dialect, and Vermont being one of the few states that understands him and can respond in kind.

Honestly I feel like most Mideast/Southeast states would get along pretty well with VT even if he is pretty antisocial at times. He has a similar folksy vibe that fits well. (historically, VT was built by "lower class" immigrants working hard blue collar jobs. Lot's of the same Scottish and Irish influence as most Northeast states. Eventually, they trickled down south through places like Appalachia as time went on.)

Vermont is a townie at heart, not having very big cities and a smaller population, he definitely is a vocal workers rights activist and loudly opposes classism and loves himself a union strike if needed.

Vermont and New Hampshire may have started out hating each other, having a sort of rivalry. After time went on, and maybe due to living in the Statehouse right next door, or maybe even years prior, these two states really didn't have that much contempt for each other as one might seem. They mainly "hate" each other as a bit now, finding it funny. They are probably married for tax purposes (VT loves NH lack of sales tax lol).

Vermont is the Statehouse's resident veterinarian, being very good with pretty much any animal under the sun native to his state or not.

He also has a green thumb and loves gardening.

VT has a pet Raccoon named Champ (after the famous lake monster)

Vermont is a vegetarian, despite being a state with a lot of hunters. He'd do it for survival, but only as a last resort. To counter that, I'd say he is good with a bow and arrow (a reference to bow season).

This fella can play a lot of instruments. He especially likes the banjo bc why not?

Okay that's MORE than enough for now, and this was mainly for me to just yell into the void and keep for reference. I just want more wttt VT content bc he could be such a fun character! Sorry I tricked you into reading my Vermont propaganda

Trying to think of some scenarios for their first meeting! This is probably on the more cheesy OOC side but I’d like to think they initially bonded because New York actually followed through on his promise and got to know California as a person instead of focusing on the shallow things, like everyone else did.

Not to get too deep into the history, but…

New York at this time had a reputation much like California does today; a bastion of progressive-for-the-era ideals— including women’s suffrage, abolitionism, labor rights, and various new and experimental social movements. There was a lot of immigration and urban poverty. I think New York definitely has a soft, compassionate side, and he saw the danger California was in— growing too quickly for his own good and being exploited for his resources— and saw something of himself in that. Initially it was a protective, big brother type instinct, but it (quickly) grew to be something more.

welcome to headcanon based off really specific historic events: there's a couple parts to the story.

A. the international dateline used to run between Alaska and Canada because Russia wanted all of their territory on one side. The US bought Alaska, it was moved to where it currently is in the Bering Strait.

B. in 1867, Russia was still using the Julian Calendar which is 12 days behind the Gregorian Calendar.

You are a resident of Alaska, you go to bed it is Friday, October 6th, 1867. You wake up the next morning instead of it being Saturday, October 7th; it is Friday (again) October 18th.

Anyway, wttt Alaska has never recovered from this. He is ALWAYS a day off, like if you ask him what day it is on Wednesday he'll say Thursday. Never knows what day of the month it is (always within the realm of 12 days off tho). Usually knows what month it is but if you're at the beginning of a new month even that's a tossup because he'll think it's July for a solid week into August. He is doing his best.

I’m a maladaptive daydreamer and I’m fixated on WTTT and I’m from Nebraska. Please take these headcanons so they aren’t just bouncing in my brain.

- Nebraska and Kansas are twins (think about how they were one thing and then separated so even states in south and north)

- Omaha and Chicago used to have a rivalry that still lasts in some ways today due to their history in stockyards

- Ogallala still scares some of the other states due to reputation (Ogallala historically was near the end of the Texas Trail. This caused there to be a lot of saloons and cowboys here which caused a lot of fights and deaths. This then caused many leaders of the cattle drivers to determine that they weren’t allowed to enter cause of fear that they’d die)(people called it “too tough for Texas”)

- Adding onto that, Ogallala will still sometimes dress as a saloon girl

- Lincoln and Omaha have a rivalry due to the capital. Omaha is the biggest city but Lincoln is the capital due to the river. (Brother Sister rivalry to the max)

- most of the cities know how to run trains due to all the trains that have historically run through and still do

- Omaha loves animals due to the Henry Doorly

- There’s of course the rivalry between Nebraska and Iowa but I hc that if any of the cities are ever in trouble they can go straight to Iowa for help (like an uncle)

- People assume Omaha is safe because she’s good with kids but once they watch for a little they notice she’s a bit more dangerous (Omaha has a lot of activities to do for kids but is also a bit dangerous simply due to size)

- Adding on: Omaha won’t do anything. She’s generally calm and doesn’t like to hurt anyone

- Bellevue is nonbinary and is the oldest

- Even though Omaha is second oldest, she feels some of that oldest daughter pressure

super angst:

- Omaha’s relationship with some of the other cities is very similar to the angst side of California with all the other states (think “shut up California” angst to the max). This is due to some of the other cities feeling a sort of betrayal when Omaha turned blue. They got the idea to act this way from observing how the states interacted with California. Instead of fighting back like California sometimes does (not all the time but that’s a hc for another time), Omaha instead got quiet and just tries to stay out of the way. Lincoln and Bellevue will sometimes jump in to defend but she has told them not to due to her not wanting the other cities to turn on them.

- I think there was a day where the cities had been hanging out or something and at least some of the states were around (for max angst, Texas is there) and the states see how the cities treat Omaha.

- When they ask about it, the cities say “well you do it to California” or something along the lines of we’re just copying what you did

- This could lead to the states reflecting on them treating California based on seeing the reaction of someone (Omaha) who doesn’t hide their feelings as well. Cause let’s be honest, it’s gonna hurt a lot when you’re trying to share information that you find exciting for one reason or another, and the people you have grown up with and at some point have been good friends with, tell you to shut up.

I know it turned to California at the end but I think about that a lot so I just had to add it. Also there’s a good chance I’ll have more to add in the future but we’ll see where my thoughts go.
