Thinking about that poll that was like “were you a gifted kid?” And specified like, AP classes and stuff. But in my school system, the GT (gifted/talented) program was SPECIFICALLY for neurodivergent kids who didn’t need accommodations in the traditional special Ed way (up to a certain point), but in a more stimulation way or for teaching in a less traditional way. Most of the GT kids were on the spectrum (me!), had ADHD, were bipolar, one had Tourette’s, it was honestly a big mixed bag but we all had some kind of something going on. Our school was very big on saying you are NOT smarter than, more special than, more talented than, etc etc the other kids. You are in a SPECIAL EDUCATION CLASS because you need DIFFERENT TEACHING STYLES to learn at an appropriate pace. So our methods were more creative or else we wouldn’t be engaged with the work, our classes were smaller to give more individualized attention, our tests were formatted differently to accommodate different things, etc. like. It was all there to accommodate kids who were neurodivergent. So seeing a post like, specifying AP classes, which to me are understood as college level courses for anyone smart/hard working enough to take, not just GT kids was so bizarre because like. Anyone can take those?
Anyway tumblrinas who were in gifted programs were you in it because you were smart or because you were neurodivergent? (Or both!) did your school make a distinction? Were you raised with a superiority complex (I’ve heard this is common) or told you were in special ed? Did you have to take a test or be recommended for the program? I’m so curious!

sinead o connor passing brings to the forefront of my mind the time that i, in the middle of having a gender crisis that i did not realize was a gender crisis, said i wanted to shave my hair off, and was met with "don't do that, you'll look like sinead o connor" from my dad

(DID YOU KNOW SOL USED TO BE IN A DEBATING CLUB AS A CHILD?) (SLIMES TEAM NEARLY WON THE ENTIRE COMPETITION BUT THE LAST FEW DEBATES SOL HAD A SPORT TOURNAMENT TO GO TO SO THEY ENDED UP LOSING) (NOT TO DISS THE REMAINING PLAYERS BUT YOU DEBATE IN GROUPS OF 3-4 FOUR PEOPLE, SO HAVING ANY OF YOUR MEMBERS MISSING TO BE REPLACED BY A STUDENT WHO JUST WANTED AN EXCUSE TO GET OUT OF CLASS ISN'T GOOD)
(SOL HAS ALWAYS BEEN A SMART KID)

OKAY i’ll share mine since y’all won’t 😤 (jk thank u to those who have)
it’s called “perception” or something along those lines and here are some of my notes on it:
can perceive one quality about a person or object with any of the 5 physical senses. can only obtain one quality per sense per object for a period of time dependent on the person, object, or sense used.
information obtained depends on the sense used. touch and taste are the most intimate and informative.
quirk is used intentionally, not passively
sometimes it can be helpful to block one or more of the senses if trying to hyperfocus on a particular one for a period of time.
the recharge period for senses can be decreased by blocking them off. complete sensory deprivation can fully recharge all 5 much quicker, though this obviously renders the quirk useless during that time
picks up on physical energy emitted by people and objects. can be used to perceive personality traits or intentions, but not symbolic things like names (though this can potentially happen retrocognitively if the sense used is touch or taste; can almost perceive past memories from the energy of the person/object)
idk if i could get away with being a full-blown hero or anything, but if i could, i’d probably best be used for special recon missions or something instead of “i’m strong and patrolling the streets to protect you!!!” tho i guess that might work out in some instances lmao
i’d have to supplement with extra fighting/weapon skills kinda like shinsou and aizawa since our quirks are less “physical.” if i weren’t cut out for “pro-hero status” then i’d probably be a sidekick or support or smth. could very much also see me not shining during the entrance exam for school and getting the shinsou “general studies” treatment lol therefore having to bust my ass to get anywhere
i am once again curious as to what everyone’s bnha quirks would be (if you’d have one). i want to be insane and talk about the details
what are the specifics? what would you do with it? would you just be the average citizen? hero? villain?
where would you be placed if you went to a school like UA? class 1-A heroes? sidekicks? support? etc.?

Something I really enjoy and appreciate about the Holmes fandom's love for Jeremy Brett is that we love all versions of him.
He was a beautiful person, inside and out, by all accounts. He was kind, talented, generous, and humble. He was queer. He was bipolar. And we see all that, and we love it all.
We love the young waif with cheekbones to die for as Hamlet, and we love the older, fatter Sherlock Holmes whose eyes were as sharp as ever.
I've read Bending The Willow (yes it made me cry) - I know Mr Brett didn't like the weight he gained in his later years, to the point where he actually apologised for not being as thin as Holmes was described.

[ID: Text. P.S. November 9th, 1993. I apologise for not being as lean as I should have been in the last twenty films. This is due sadly to what has only recently been diagnosed as heart failure. I am now living on foxgloves and water pills, and I'm told that in the not-too distant future I will be lean once more. Yours, J.B. /end ID]
Yes, it's hard to watch those final Granada episodes, when he looks so unwell, and they often had to change the stories to accommodate his deterioration. But we love him still, for everything he put into the role and all his others.
And I hope he would be happy that 40+ years after the Granada show first aired, we're still quoting him, writing fic, making art and videos and just generally creating based on his interpretation of Holmes.
We don't judge him for gaining weight. We don't judge him for being unwell, mentally or physically. As a queer and neurodivergent person myself, I like to think he'd also be happy to see that level of positivity and inclusiveness being shared amongst his fans.

Hi @netflix and @warnerbrostv! I'd like to talk about the show Supernatural and how its history and legacy can provide some insight on why you should reconsider your decision to end Dead Boy Detectives after one singular season.
Supernatural is undoubtedly one of the most successful television fantasy franchises, but many don't know that it was nearly cancelled after season 2. Thankfully (and luckily) for the network they didn't go through with cancelling the show and by season 4 it was regularly breaking viewership records. A show that was nearly cut short in its prime - much like Dead Boy Detectives - became one of the largest and most recognizable fandoms across social media platforms between the years of 2010 and 2014. The show was so wildly popular that a confession scene between two of its leading characters (Dean and Cas) is STILL used today in a meme format to circulate everything from fandom news to world politics and current events. You can't go to a single comic-con without running into something relating to Supernatural, and ever since its conclusion there has been an opening in the market for a show to take its place.
I can say with absolute certainty that, given the proper time to flourish, Dead Boy Detectives would be the show to fill the spot Supernatural has left behind. It has loads of charm alongside a sensational balance of action, whimsy, heartwrenching character development, and horror. Furthermore it is objectively better with representation than Supernatural was, which is always something embraced in fandom spaces (which are diverse and filled to the brim with queer, neurodivergent, and/or a wide range of people of color).
I also think it's fair to remind you that one of your most popular "Nerd" shows, Stranger Things, is coming to an end after a 10-year-run, leaving behind yet another gap to fill, but this time on your very own platform.
It isn't too late to reconsider the cancellation of Dead Boy Detectives. The fanbase is dedicated and hungry for more, and we know you are currently sitting on finished season 2 scripts, making it impossible for the writers to take this story anywhere else for quite some time. The scripts are there, the cast, crew, and writers love what they do and want to make more... there's simply no reason to not give Dead Boy Detectives the chance it deserves - this time with an entire fandom that wants nothing more than to consume this show, market the hell out of it, and buy merch relating to it (another win for you).
Tumblr media
(Source x)
Oh and did I mention that Steve Yockey was a co-producer on Supernatural as well? You know, that wildly popular show I just told you about that lasted 15 seasons. You are sitting on a golden goose; Steve Yockey and Beth Schwartz, among the other talented writers, cast, and crew, know what they're doing.
Give this show its time and market it well and you will have a hit on your hands. Frankly just based on the steady, continual fandom growth since Dead Boy Detectives' release in April and the vocal outrage over its cancellation just in the last 24 hours, I'd argue you already have a hit on your hands that rivals several shows you currently have on your platform.
Dead Boy Detectives has one of the most active fandoms of the year - do the right thing by them and bring Dead Boy Detectives back. It isn't too late!

Okay in all seriousness. There's something that I REALLY want to talk about as an open discussion with the fandom, but. This is not going to be a very nice thing to hear/talk about.
It's about how Gonta is treated by the fandom.
As a fan of all the V3 characters now, and as someone who has always been a fan of Gonta, and as someone who has many mental disabilities and two diagnosed neurodivergancies... I'm tired of playing nice about it.
You all need to stop being ableist towards Gonta.
I've mentioned in the past that I don't like shitting on personal interpretations. I don't like saying something is or is not canon because narration is just a big web of text that you try to decipher with your own personal biases, experiences, and thoughts. That's why two literary analysts analyzing the same text with the same literary criticism rules can come to wildly different conclusions--why people develop different headcanons from the same canonical information.
But one of the things that challenged my integrity is just how many people view Gonta as this innocent, naive, ignorant, baby boy who can do no harm/never has a complicated/dirty/violent/sexual thought in his life ever.
This incredibly ableist interpretation of the character bothered me for, well, obvious reasons (See: It's fucking ableist, need I say more?) but I never challenged it as harshly as I am now because to be frank, it's not my place to tell people how to HC a character. It still isn't. But I've pretty much given up on my integrity on the subject and have decided to go all in on discussing why this interpretation of Gonta is just. Really bad.
First of all, not to promote my own analyses here or anything, but I think this analysis I did of Gonta explains a LOT in regards to the ableism the cast gives him in canon. I also think that this subtle ableism is why the fandom is so bad with Gonta's characterization in headcanons and fanfic--because they've seen how the cast treats him, and they think it's normal. They don't see the microaggressions, they don't see the subtle ableism in the cast--they just see this big giant idiot who speaks like Tarzan in the English version (which... I don't actually know why people assume Tarzan (Thinking of Disney's version) is stupid. Like as a boy he had to reinvent the spear with no one to guide him on how to do it. He was able to strategize and outsmart "civilized" men in the final showdown. Still I digress) and don't see the literal genius behind his social awkwardness.
There is also another very important point I'm going to make in addition to this, and it's going to be very uncomfortable to Gonta fans who insist he's nothing but a sweet baby who only has pure thoughts. Especially to the fans who insist he "can't be sexual" or think it's weird to ship him with his peers.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but... Gonta blatantly has sexual desire and gets horny right in canon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is further clarified here:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It wasn't a matter of Gonta didn't want to touch her because touching someone in their underwear was inappropriate, or being flustered because she was in her underwear which is inappropriate...
It was literally a "weird feeling" that made him unable to approach her or touch her. A "weird feeling" that Miu makes pretty obvious as to what it was--sexual arousal.
He literally was sexually attracted to and felt sexual arousal from looking at Miu in her underwear. He had sexual feelings and thoughts about Miu. Why?
Because Gonta is a young man.
Gonta is a brilliant, talented young man who has normal human thoughts for someone his age--sexual desires, upsetting thoughts, complicated thoughts, ectect. He is not a child, he is not mentally stunted (I've been informed that people have literally said this on Ao3 for the NSFW Gonta fics, please for the love of god stop that)
I think the reason why Gonta fans typically want to keep him as a "pure baby child who can do no wrong" is because treating him like the young adult that he is makes it harder for them to justify Chapter 4. Every time I've seen a Gonta fan that hates Kokichi, it's always followed by the sentiment of "Kokichi manipulated and abused Gonta into killing Miu, so it's all Kokichi's fault." They're afraid of nuance and liking a character with the grey morality of genuinely thinking Mercy Killing the cast is a viable option, because it challenges their own morals about the character they adore.
To those people who read this and are upset: You can and should like Gonta! Gonta is a magnificent character who showcases the subtle way microaggressions can manifest and hurt people, he's a good-hearted person and a literal genius, he cares deeply for his friends and loves everyone with upmost sincerity.
But.
You need to re-evaluate your stance on Gonta if you think he's a stupid, naive fool who Kokichi manipulated. You need to re-evaluate why you think those thoughts, why you think Gonta being shipped with anyone is "Kinda weird" or "has weird consent problems" or "give you the ick." You have to challenge yourself and ask yourself uncomfortable questions in regards to why you treat Gonta like a child when canon has proven otherwise, why you think he cannot have violent or sexual thoughts, why he can't think mercy killing his class is the only way to save them.
This isn't an attack on you--but understand that these specific takes on Gonta? They are ableist in nature. They belittle and dismiss him, they treat him like a child, an idiot who can't think for himself--and you have to come to terms with the fact that Gonta is a far more complex character with complicated thoughts and feelings who is a young adult. Not a child. A young adult.
So again, ask yourself this: Why are you treating this young adult like he's a toddler?

I think dan and phil are special but not because they are special people. like don't get me wrong, they are extremely talented and creative and funny and phil does seem to have inherited some kind of special intuition from his northern grandma but! there's a million other queer / neurodivergent people out there just like them... just as talented and intuitive or whatnot. what's special is that they were in the right place / right time to broadcast this unique kind of existence on a mass scale to a broad audience but more importantly a kindred audience. and they've kept it authentic by balancing their entertainment personas and working relationship with their real selves. It's like we've been watching a reality tv series about them for 15 years except they are the producers (who maybe exaggerate some things like producers do but, it's their own choices)... and they never meant for the show to make money but it did so yeah they need it to maintain their lifestyle now but in general their intentions are less clouded by clout or success compared to some influencers/creators out there. What's special is the insane parasocial relationship we have with them and they have with us that truly is a product of a specific context that I don't think will ever quite exist again. They learned from the first YouTubers and mastered the art form to the point where they are able to go on these huge tours that to this day no one can top because YouTube and the Internet have changed far too much with algorithms and advertising and etc. They are a testament to the lost dream of what the internet could be and a showcase of what can happen if you give gay dorks the perfect ingredients to build a media empire. and as a result we know them so intimately as they truly have been open about so much over 15 years and yet they've still kept so much private, to the point where there's still so much that people speculate on. It's like the perfect case study for Web 2.0 media produsage and digital community building amidst the decline of in-person connections because of the progression of capitalism... anyways if by chance there are any phannies getting degrees in media and communications and need help with paper topics and writing please hit me up I'm yearning for grad school again 😭

Every time I see any type of Good Omens fan content, I am shocked at just how varied, creative, and TALENTED the community is.
But also they're determined to make Crowley suffer as much as possible, in every variation and it's slightly hilarious to me
Not only does this poor demon suffer tremendously in canon, but every single fic I see is one or more of
Crowley is frozen
Crowley is burnt
Crowley drowns
Crowley is tortured physically
Crowley is tortured EMOTIONALLY
Crowley is discorporated
Crowley is VIOLENTLY discorporated
Crowley loses his memories
Crowley is trapped in a time loop and REMEMBERS YEARS WORTH OF THE SAME DAYS
Crowley is traumatized
Crowley is Traumatized 2.0 Electric Boogaloo
Crowley is alone and abandoned
Crowley is finally happy with Aziraphale, and THEN abandoned
Crowley is divorced
Crowley is kidnapped
Crowley is stuck as a snake
Crowley is kidnapped AS A SNAKE BY HUMANS
If there's a piece of Good Omens content, chances are something WILD happens to Crowley, including AU's
And Aziraphale has a healthy dose of anxiety, religious trauma, and neurodivergence sprinkled in there in between all of that. I just really appreciate the creativity of this fandom.

I value Rimmer as neurodivergent representation for his lack of special superhuman talents/abilities.
I'm dyslexic...no special talents/abilites....no I'll never be a millionaire...or inventor....
It's refreshing to have a neurodivergent character who isn't a Sherlock Holmes style genius or "weird". Knowing that Rimmer bounces his leg, has a flair for creating maps (from the books), strong OCD traits, enjoys Risk, is of average intelligence, sometimes gets the joke and sometimes doesn't, can have a temper or be calm, sometimes needs to be around others and sometimes needs to be alone....that's enough....

Pines Headcanons [Happy Birthday, Grunkles]
I cannot believe I just now got reminded of this- holy shit. Unfortunately, I'm not an artist so have these headcanons instead about Stan and Ford
Stanley ‘Lee’ Pines
He’s bisexual. This is not up for debate (/lh). It just made sense for him
Stanley is ambidextrous. He can write and utilize both his left and right hands. This was something he self-taught himself in after the portal accident
On the power of ‘I said so’, Stan does have some level of book smarts but instead of math or science- it’s creative writing. He’s got the talent for it; however, he rarely - if ever - shares these stories with anyone
Stan has some form of neurodivergency. Young Stan definitely gives the impression of ADHD but also I feel he’s got dyslexia- don’t ask me why. This is canon now
He does have scars from the time he spent on the run and doing his sales. I’m not sure what they are exactly, but just know he has them
Stan knows martial arts. Other than boxing, I feel he would’ve taught himself in other forms of fighting- like the ones done on the streets and it’s a weird mix of martial arts and free-style fighting
He can be a bit of a poet, but for the most part- Stan prefers show-and-tell as his love language. He will present his partner with gifts, and makes sure they understand he’s there for them
He’s kind of protective over his partners, and definitely has gotten into fights in an attempt to protect their honor. It’s ill-placed sometimes but he’s not about to let some bozo mess with them
Stan always sought his father’s approval. He attempted multiple times to perfect his studying skills before the science fair accident, but apparently Old Pa Pines didn’t seem to notice and the rest, well, it was already history
He fantasized of being a pirate when he was a kid. This is where the whole thing of going on a seafaring adventure with Ford came from! Unfortunately due to canon events, this soured out but he held onto a photograph he and Ford took in front of the beach as a memoir
He’s very much not a big fan of vegetables
Stanford ‘Ford’ Pines
He’s arospec and ace!
Ford absolutely loves puzzles. Why? It just weirdly fitting for his character
He definitely has C-PTSD following the events of Weirdmaggedon
Autistic Ford? Autistic Ford. There is no way he doesn’t have it- I said what I said
Before he got involved in the strange and paranormal, one of Ford’s main interests was actually crystals and rocks! It felt weirdly fitting for his character, and here we are
Ford is more of a cat person. At one point, he rescued a cat-adjacent creature from an auction and named her ‘Nova’. Of course, it’s far from a cat but well, we’ll get to that later
He would be into LARP if it exists in the Gravity Falls canon. Like, that man is a nerd and already enjoys the show’s version of Dungeons and Dragons, there’s just no way he wouldn’t participate in LARP
He does have scars from his time in other dimensions for thirty years. He’s very secretive about them and doesn’t let anyone see- not even Stanley
Ford deals with the aftermath of a burnt-out gifted kid- like, he was the prodigal son and got all the right honors, scores, all of it but as he got older- the more he struggled, the more he felt like something was missing. As the golden child, he was brought up with the notion he would be important but then got smacked in the face when he realized none of it truly mattered
He had a lot of issues adjusting to his new life in Gravity Falls, Oregon after he was brought back from the portal. Ford’s triggered fight-or-flight response would kick in with unexpected situations- like, he’s definitely pulled a blaster/space gun
He likes hot chocolate
Ford enjoys cuddle piles, let’s be honest here. Once he gets more comfortable, he begins making nests with the rest of the Pines family
He’s protective of his family!
I’ll try and come up with new headcanons soon, but since I took too long releasing this- given I got sick unfortunately, I decided to post a smaller version

The mdzs character who gets the worst treatment by fandom is by far Wei Wuxian. Like he doesn't even get good discourse, he's just instantly turned into a Manic Pixie Dream Necromancer, a little uwu gremlin who is so badly treated :( by everyone :(( for no reason :((( like war crimes and torture WHO, wwx has never done anything wrong?? none of it was his fault because he's CLEARLY the protagonist, and anyway he's literally a neurodivergent queer minor??
It's genuinely so sad, Wei Wuxian is such an incredible character because of how flawed he is, and because of how often his flaws contradict his best impulses!! He's incredibly compassionate with zero empathy, he's self-destructive and self-sacrificing and self-centered, he's talented and arrogant and brilliant and kind and callous. he's the moral heart of the world and he commits horrors that nobody else has even thought of. he's That Bitch, and wwx stans just file all of what makes him shine until he's flat and bland and unproblematic and boring
like babygirl I'm so sorry they did this to you. look how they massacred my boy.
