I wish I'd never seen her in my whole life!'' in his dad's arms#later he admits ''i don't know why I said that. about hating her.'' or something like that#iirc ... he doesn't retract the ''i wish I'd never seen her in my whole life'' bit. bc maybe that's a little true#he spends the beginning of the story being jealous of Leslie for ability to write. and run fast. and get smiles from the harshest teachers#and then she wins him over and their friendship gives him so much hope and happiness and confidence. and then he loses her#that loss is the most painful thing he's ever felt. so like. yeah#he doesn't hate her. but the blurry haze of jealousy and grief that overwhelms him in Leslie's absence? that's true.#this book .......#bridge to terabithia#jess isn't exactly manipulative but he doesn't express how he feels. mostly just says platitudes and keeps his head down#so he doesn't fully fit the post but it made me think of him#y'know who does fit the post tho#citrine#and tbh#aatano#aatano lies to keep others safe. citrine lies to protect himself. especially to aata.
