Haters call eleven straight Doctor because he’s attracted to older women, when his type is clearly just morally questionable people who look middle-aged (he calls Churchill “dear,” don’t forget. he never calls Amy or Clara that. Churchill is in the same category as River and the TARDIS).

Ranking Cosmere Families Based Whether I'd Want to Attend Their Thanksgiving Dinner
If they, you know, actually celebrated Thanksgiving or if I existed in their universe and could attend. But anyway.
[Last Thanksgiving special: How They'd Cook a Turkey]
1. Kholin Family Dinner: No Thank You
Let the various eras of the Kholin family spread out before you: is there ANY iteration of that family whose Thanksgiving Dinner you'd want to attend? We have the Blackthorn Era, where Dalinar is getting drunk and trying not to make eyes at his brother's wife and also Sadeas is probably there. We have Way of Kings era where Dalinar thinks he might be going crazy and is always in a lowkey fight with Adolin. We have post-Oathbringer where you sit at that table knowing that Dalinar killed his kids' mother. Is there any moment when a Kholin family dinner wouldn't be awkward for a guest? Even Shallan being there isn't enough to win me over. I'm staying home.
2. Kelsier's Crew: Sure!
I think a holiday dinner with Kelsier's crew would actually be delightful. I think that whatever else they had going on at the time, they'd make an effort to put that aside and have a good time.
3. Kiin's Family Dinner: Hell yeah
Kiin (Sarene's uncle in Elantris) is canonically an amazing cook. Like, I'd LOVE to be at their family dinner. Plus, Sarene seems to have a nice time hanging out with them. Sure their kids squabble a bit, but nothing major.
4. Stormblessed Family Dinner: M-Maybe?
I feel like this is strongly era-dependent. Join them when Kaladin and Tien are kids? Yeah, I think that would be all right. There might be tension between Lirin and Kaladin, but Hesina and Tien are there to defuse it. After the two kids are taken to war? I-I'm leaving that couple alone to grieve, I think. Post-Kaladin-Radiant time? That's REALLY book-dependent. Got weird between Kaladin & Lirin for a while there. I don't want to be there for their yearly argument about whether it's ever okay to kill someone. Maybe I'll just help Hesina in the kitchen.
5. Tress Family Dinner: Definitely!
Yeah! Tress is a great cook, her parents are AWESOME, and if Charlie is there too, all the better. Like, this one is a no-brainer yes please.
6. Bridge 4 Dinner: Yeah!
Especially if it's post-Radiants, so that (a) we're not all enslaved in Sadeas' war camp and (b) there are women too. I bet Rock's Thanksgiving stew would be delicious. Kaladin would be late, but you know what, it's okay. He's very busy.
7. Court of the Gods Thanksgiving Dinner: Maybe If I Were Younger...
Listen, I'm sure it's a raucous good time. There's lots of food, it's really good, everyone looks hot, and everyone is very drunk. Not REALLY my scene, though. I might go if I were invited, but if Tress's family had already offered, I mean...
8. Idrian Royal Family Dinner: I'll Pass
For one thing, I feel like the food would not be very good since my impression of Idris is that everything is...gray. But even beyond that, the family dynamics do not sound fun. I mean, their dad sold his least favorite daughter into what he thought was deadly sex slavery. Their mom doesn't even have a name. It just feels so awkward.
9. Noodle Shop Thanksgiving Dinner: Yeah!
Going out to eat is a great way to not have to cook for Thanksgiving dinner. And Design's Noodle shop--or even later under the new owners--feels like a great place to get some food. Depending on why I'm there, I might even get some free sympathy noodles if I have nowhere else to go! Y-Yay!
10. Lopen Family Dinner: Yes!
I definitely would say yes if invited to eat with Lopen and his many cousins. Remember when Elhokar was there for a minute, and Lopen's mother kept making him eat more? I am going to be SO STUFFED and it is going to be SO worth it.
11. Ladrian Family Dinner: Totally
I'd love to have dinner with Wax and Steris and presumably Wayne and Marasi and possibly MeLaan! I bet the place settings will be fancy and that I'll have to bone up on my etiquette rules--but then, Wayne will be there so surely my using the wrong fork will go largely unnoticed. Anyway, these people seem pretty fun to hang out with, and I bet the food and whiskey are both good.
12. Montane Family Dinner: S-Sorry, Can't Make It...
As much as I love Threnody as a concept, I don't want to hang out in a small circle of silver-ringed "safety" while knowing that murderous ghosts await any mistake outside. I just don't feel like it would be a relaxing time. Plus, you know, Silence's grandmother is literally a ghost in a locked room like right over there. That's a family dynamic I don't care to experience.

analysing the (heartbreaking) kitty letter bc i will never get over it <\3
Ty, Ty, Ty.
kit repeating his name so many times bc he is physically incapable of stopping oh i want to cry
Your name looks strange written out like that. Like an abbreviation. But Tiberius would be so formal. I never think of you that way. Or, I suppose I should say, I never thought of you that way. Tenses matter in these situations, I guess.
he spends so much time thinking about everything related to ty, even his name and how it’a pronounced. it's like he has a little box in the back of his mind reserved for all things ty and he only allows himself to open it sometimes, when he can't help himself any longer. and he does it, despite the pain it causes him.
It’s late, past midnight, and I’m sitting on the windowsill in my bedroom at Cirenworth.
late at night, all kit can think about is ty and everything he lost. in the darkness, he can allow himself to feel and remember.
Jem and Tessa gave me one of the best rooms. Of course they did. It has a view out over the gardens. Sometimes I see the ghost of a dog there, a golden retriever I’m pretty sure, running in and out of the flowerbeds. He seems like a pretty happy ghost.
this is one of the only happy parts in the whole letter. i love how it shows how much jem and tessa care about kit, how much they have made him a part of their home, their family. they truly want only the best for him and love him so much, they want him to have all of the things he never had with johnny (+ we have further confirmation that kit can definitely see oscar wilde which is simply adorable).
I think about how much you like animals and how much they love you, because of course they do. But it’s too late; this dog passed away a long time ago. You probably couldn’t even see him. It’s too late for a lot of things, now.
it's giving "of course animals also love you, it's hard not to love you" and the way he says it with such ease… like loving ty is natural and not surprising at all bc it's just the way things are. but then he goes back to his toxic mindset that it's too late now, it's too late for that love to grow because they're not together anymore, it's too late to take back everything that happened between them.
I’m still mad at you, and I don’t feel good about that. Maybe if I could forget, I could forgive. But I can’t forget that night you brought Livvy back. I’ll suddenly remember even when I’m thinking about something else. I’ll be in the middle of helping Tessa in the garden and suddenly I’ll turn around and I’m back in Idris.
he doesn't like being angry, he wants to move on, but he can't because it's ty. maybe if it was anyone other than ty. but it's not. no matter how hard he tries, he can't forget everything that happened at the lake. even when he's doing normal ordinary things, it will hit him that he's not okay, even after all this time. kit is struggling to forgive but he's really trying.
I remember I told you I loved you. I remember I told you I would help you, but not if you raised Livvy from the dead. Not if you did necromancy. But you wanted that more than you wanted me.
the reason why it's so hard to forgive is because of all the memories which are still so fresh in his mind. he can remember every detail, he can remember the pain it caused him to open himself up like that and then be broken apart. he was truly honest with someone for once and took a chance only for it all to come crashing down, for it to be clear that ty never wanted any of that and he certainly never wanted him (what a bunch of bs, kit, c'mon bffr) :(
And I understand that. I’m not angry about that. Here’s what I’m angry about: when you brought Livvy back, you changed yourself. You made yourself a different person than the one I loved. I don’t know the person you are now. You took yourself away from me. I can’t forgive that.
the way he says he understands it has my throat tying up bc kit genuinely believes it - that ty could never love him. and more so, that he has good reason for it. nobody has ever loved him so why should ty be any different? kit isn't angry about not being loved (he's never been loved), it's that ty changed himself. ty became someone kit never thought he could be, someone he can’t recognise. all of kit's anger is directed towards ty and what he did to himself, it was never about kit's hurt feelings. kit knows hurt, he's dealt with it his whole life. his concern is ty.
And you made me someone who has to keep a secret I never wanted to keep. I was raised by someone who had so many awful secrets, and when I started my life as a Shadowhunter I wanted to do it openly, and honestly. But now I’m just someone else with secrets I can never tell. Just like my dad.
i think kit’s greatest fear is turning into johnny. turning into someone who has so little love to give, someone who lies and cheats their way through life, makes kit terrified that he could end up like johnny. (but i also really love the fact that johnny was brought up at all bc it shows kit still thinks about him and that his death did impact him. i can't wait to see more of what kit thinks about him in twp).
It makes me angry, so angry. I want to yell at you. I wish you were here so I could yell at you.
and still, despite his anger; despite him not being able to forgive; despite feeling betrayed; he still loves ty. he still wants ty by his side. he wants to tell him everything that he wrote on paper, he wants ty to hear his words and be angry at him. he just wants ty.
and the yelling bit… like michi said, i hope the mutual yelling at each other will end in an angry kiss ehem
Kit
oh how painful it is to sign a letter he will never send
#in conclusion i need fucking help#bc i did NOT just sit here for ages analysing a freaking letter#(and yet i did)#oh gosh im gonna need therapy after reading twp im afraid#kit herondale#ty blackthorn#kit x ty#kitty#seasons of shadowhunters#cassandra clare#the last king of faerie#the dark artifices#the wicked powers#tlkof#tda#twp#tsc

Emergency Presents for a Certain Android
David x reader
word count: 669
Crossposted on Ao3
a/n: I really just typed that over the span of 2 - 3 hours because the dear @elecctromechanika hit me with "I thought about David getting his own handmade stocking" like a brick in the face and I HAD to write that asap because he deserves his own Stocking!!
Man, you were STRESSED!
It was the 24th of December, and you hadn’t really expected anyone to celebrate Christmas out here. But then there was Idris Janek.
Right after waking from cryosleep, he’d put up a little Christmas tree. And now he’d even laid out Christmas stockings beneath it!
Why were you so stressed? Because, of course, no one had thought about the crew’s android. So you hurried back to your quarters and dumped every bundle of yarn you had onto the bed, sorting through the various colors.
This stash was meant for relaxing and passing the time when you weren’t actively needed on the mission - but oh well, not this time.
You flopped down onto the couch, put on the extended cut of The Lord of the Rings, and got to work.
For the stocking, you chose a classic red-and-white Santa Claus color scheme, using thick, bulky yarn to finish it faster. And surprisingly, it worked out well. The finishing touch was crocheting the name “David” with thin red yarn into the white top rim. Et voilà!
But now came the real obstacle - what do you gift a synthetic person on a spaceship?
You hadn’t exactly packed an array of patterns, figuring you’d only be making scarves or the occasional cozy project, not emergency Christmas presents.
Fumbling through the yarn, you wracked your brain for ideas that weren’t potholders. Did he even cook? No, probably not, bad idea.
He liked movies, right? Quoting lines here and there? Did he read physical books or only digital ones? It didn’t matter - he was getting a crocheted bookmark either way.
Maybe a coffee cozy… but did he even drink or eat? You hadn’t seen him do that, but it was the thought that counted, right?
By the time you were done, you’d reached the end of the second movie.
After tossing in some coasters with random designs and a small case no bigger than your palm, you stretched your stiff, knotted fingers.
Praise the hyperfocus - at least this time, or you wouldn’t have finished so quickly.
Stuffing the gifts into the stocking, you tiptoed through the empty, grey corridors until you reached the common area. After a quick glance around to make sure no one was watching, you played the role of a secret Christmas elf, placing David’s stocking alongside the others before quietly sneaking back to your room.
On Christmas morning, everyone gathered for breakfast and excitedly checked their stockings.
Each person found a few sweets, Fifield even pulled out a small pebble and side-eyed Millburn, who sheepishly looked away.
And then there was David, brows furrowed in confusion as he stared at the noticeably different stocking with his name on it.
A clap on his back startled him.
“Looks like a Christmas angel got something for you too!”
You? A Christmas angel? The comment made you blush, which he, of course, noticed and made him grin.
David followed his gaze and stared at you for a moment before turning back to the stocking.
“You made this… for me?”
Feeling suddenly self-conscious, you walked over and nodded.
“There wasn’t one for you, and I didn’t want you to be empty-handed. It’s not very detailed, but there are some gifts inside. I hope they’re okay.”
Rubbing the back of your neck, you watched as David carefully pulled out each handmade present, studying every row.
“I appreciate it. I’ve never received a gift before.”
That made you frown. Never? Not a single little gift?
New mission unlocked.
“If that’s the case, I’ll make you more.”
Was that… an honest smile on his lips?
“But I don’t have anything for you.”
Waving off the comment, you replied, “Doesn’t matter. Maybe I’ll make you some slippers so you don’t walk around in those flip-flops anymore.”
Glancing down at his feet, you were surprised by him putting a hand on your shoulder.
“Thank you. Merry Christmas, (L/N).”
You beamed at him, deciding that every strained, aching finger had been worth it.
“Merry Christmas, David.”

What We Know, What To Expect, & Moving Forward!
Hey Y’All!
By the time this post is made, we’ll be–roughly–eleven months away from the release date of Sonic the Hedgehog 3(2024). As of now, we don’t have a whole lot of information concerning the Knuckles Series on Paramount + and when it will release. The same can be said for the third Sonic movie. Last time I made an updated post was back in January of 2023. Since then, we’ve gained some new information. I’ve combed through everything that’s been posted since 2021 to compile into a large master post! When leaks and other news resurface, I’ll update this post monthly to share via reblog.
Release dates:
It’s safe to say that the third Sonic movie is on track to release on December 20th, 2024 in the United States. Global release dates for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 have yet to be released.
The SAG-AFTRA strike in 2023 has not interfered with the movie’s production. Though not yet confirmed, we can infer that the strike has pushed the Knuckles Series back by a few months. The original release date for the series was meant to release “sometime in 2023” (Otterson, 2023). It is unclear when the Knuckles Series will stream on Paramount +. However, Screen Rant’s interview with Tika Sumpter implies that a release date for the series will be shared on Super Bowl Sunday (Screen Rant, 2024). Super Bowl Sunday is on February 11th, 2024.
Returning Actors/New Actors:
The following are actors that will be returning to SONIC MOVIE 3:
Ben Schwartz will reprise his role as “Sonic”
Colleen O'Shaughnessey will reprise her role as “Tails”
Idris Elba will reprise his role as “Knuckles”
James Marsden is expected to reprise his role as “Tom”
Tika Sumpter will reprise her role as “Maddie”
Lee Majdoub will reprise his role as “Agent Stone.”
As of now, a voice actor for “Shadow” has not been announced. A “Big Name Actor” has been chosen to voice “Shadow” since 2022 (Klamath Comicon, 2022). The popular rumor is that Hayden Christensen (Anakin Skywalker) will be Shadow’s VA (Physical Media President, 2024). This has not been confirmed as of yet. There is no indication that previous voice actors from other Sonic games will appear to voice Shadow the Hedgehog.
It’s unclear at this moment in time if Jim Carrey will reprise his role as “Dr. Robotnik.” The agreement is that if Jim Carrey is committed to his retirement, then the character will be retired completely. Dr. Robotnik will not be recast (Klamath Comicon, 2022). In late 2022, after announcing his retirement, Jim Carrey appeared in an interview with GMA saying that he would make an exception for Sonic 3 if he liked the script due to loving the Sonic series (GMA, 2022).
Other characters–Rachel, Randall, JoJo, Wade, “Crazy” Carl, and characters from the Knuckles Series–have yet to be announced.
The following are actors that will be starring/returning in KNUCKLES SERIES:
Idris Elba will reprise his role as “Knuckles”
Adam Pally will reprise his role as “Wade Whipple”
Tika Sumpter will reprise her role as “Maddie”
It is unclear who the newcomers to the Knuckles Series will be playing. The actor list can be found HERE.
**NOTE: At this moment in time, it is unclear whether or not we will gain new characters in the third Sonic film. Fans hope for Rouge, Amy Rose, Gerald Robotnik, and Maria Robotnik to appear in these continuations. Writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller are aware of there being more female Sonic characters and a need for Sonic characters in general (Movie-Robotnik-Positivity, 2022). Also note that characters are meant to take reference from GAME CANON only; characters from comic books, mobile games, and other spinoff titles will NOT appear in the SCU franchise.**
Flexibility & Mandates:
Yes, this is a separate subject. I have received questions about this in the past and continue to today. In 2021, Pat Casey shared that mandates are not a thing when writing the films; they are provided lenient suggestions and have asked for source game material from SEGA in the past (Movie-Robotnik-Positivity, 2022). These suggestions are NOT the same as the IDW comics. If the writers are not sure of something about Sonic lore, they contact SEGA. Canon for movies is meant to draw in from the game-verse instead of comic books and spin off titles due to familiarity.
“Everyone recognizes Sonic as a video game icon rather than a TV show or a comic strip.”
New lore can be created–I.E. chaos emeralds being entities within the Master Emerald rather than viewed as separate items–as long as it follows elements of games, and made easy for fans and newcomers to follow (Movie-Robotnik-Positivity, 2022).
The movies are NOT canon to the video games, but take heavy inspiration from them. They exist within their own canon universe.
Ian Flynn has NO involvement with the movies whatsoever.
Tyson Hesse is the producer for the Knuckles Series, the movies, and a creative consultant.
Pat Casey and Josh Miller have asked for game-material ONLY for Shadow's characterization, they do not plan to use the comic books or previous TV shows for writing Shadow (Legacy, 2022).
Story and Plot:
SONIC MOVIE 3–It is unclear at this moment in time what the plot is for the third Sonic film. What we can infer is that Sonic 3 will take “heavy inspiration” from both Sonic Adventure 2 and Shadow’s solo game for plot (Klamath Comicon, 2022). This does NOT mean that it’s going to be an exact replica of these games. The third film is meant to tie-in with the Knuckles Series. Whatever is shared in the miniseries will be carried over to the movie’s plot (Lang, 2022). The plot synopsis shared in late 2022 with AmyRose, Big the Cat, and Metal Sonic was DEBUNKED by @tailschannel. The synopsis for Sonic 3 released in November of 2023 was DEBUNKED.
Drafting and planning for Sonic 3 began late 2021 (Movie-Robotnik-Positivity, 2022). Storyboard planning for Sonic 3 began late 2022 (Welcome-to-Green-Hills, 2022). A finalized script for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 was finished weeks before the SAG-AFTRA strike (Pat Casey, 2023). Filming for Sonic 3 began in August 2023 and continues currently (Welcome-to-Green-Hills, 2023). The budget for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is massive (Legacy, 2022).
In 2022, Pat Casey states that Sonic will have trouble trying to reach out to our beloved anti-hero. In the same interview, Pat Casey also stated that the tone of the third film is meant to be a bit darker. Understand that a story’s tone doesn’t always have to reflect a film’s rating, meaning that the story can be dark and still fit within the requirements of a PG or a PG-13 film. Pat Casey also shared with Screen Rant to be prepared to cry with their wild story (Bythrow, 2022).
What we can expect from the movie is a scene at a ski lodge, a GUN car and motorcycle chase scene on a bridge in a Tokyo-like city, scenes at a research facility/storage unit, scenes at Green Hills, and a scene in space.
KNUCKLES SERIES–The Knuckles series is a limited series debuting only on Paramount +. The story follows Knuckles as he teaches deputy Wade Whipple the ways of the Echidna Warrior and goes on an adventure of self-discovery (Otterson, 2022). The limited series is six episodes in total that are roughly an hour long (Welcome-to-Green-Hills, 2024). So far, leaks online have shown that Knuckles, Maddie, Wade, Wade’s extended family, and a female villain will be the main characters for the series. We can expect scenes to take place in Reno, a bowling alley, a diner, and parts of Green Hills, Montana. Lore and stories that take place in the Knuckles Series will continue over to the third Sonic film.
Music Selection:
The demand for Sonic music in the third film and the spinoff series has been at an all-time high. At Klamath Community College’s Comicon event, Pat Casey and Josh Miller have shared their hopes for Crush 40 to appear in the film, specifically the song “Live and Learn (2001).” An interview with Pat Casey in mid-to-late 2022 stated that SEGA’s copyright laws for their music are tricky to include into the films (Movie-Robotnik-Positivity, 2022). He and Jeff Fowler (director) hope to find a loophole in the copyright.
Leaks Online:
Storyboards– On January 11th, 2024, Twitter user @/cartoonupdates released 462 storyboard pages of the Knuckles Series and 443 storyboard pages of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (Welcome-to-Green-Hills, 2024). These were taken down less than 24 hours after publication. Storyboard leaks for the Knuckles Series depicted a scene between Knuckles and Wade fighting the Black Arms, as well as a person in a mechanical suit. This scene is in front of a bowling alley with witnesses watching and Wade saying, “the flames of disaster.” Storyboard leaks for the third Sonic Movie depicted Super Shadow and Dr. Robotnik in a space station traveling back in time. Super Shadow spins the space station back in time to where Dr. Robotnik is able to see a fight between Super Sonic and Shadow, Agent Stone nursing him to health, and Dr. Robotnik firing a hand laser.
Reddit– At this moment in time, there have been no plot-related leaks regarding the third Sonic movie in Reddit chatrooms. We can expect NDA special screenings around mid-to-late summer, or early fall.
Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, & Instagram–Leaked set photos of Sonic 3 have surfaced during the SAG-AFTRA strike. These scenes show stand-in models of Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles residing in a campsite near a snowy lodge. One leaked scene featured a motorcycle chase scene with police cars and an explosion on a bridge in London, England. Jeff Fowler shared a stand-in model of Shadow’s shoes in a warehouse-like setting.
Rating:
At this moment in time, both Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (2024) and the Knuckles Series do not have a strong rating. However, speculation is that Sonic 3 will push for a HARD PG due to the Slovakian rating/certificate system released earlier this year (Welcome-to-Green-Hills, 2024). Official ratings/certificates for both of the series are expected to release closer to their aimed launch dates. These ratings/certificates are usually given four weeks before released to the public.
Continuation(s):
There are no existing plans or confirmation that there will be a fourth installment of SCU currently. Clarity on whether or not Paramount will approve a fourth Sonic movie can be expected closer to, or after, Sonic 3’s release date. Rule of thumb is that if fans are interested in the series, then Jeff Fowler and Pat Casey will continue to make Sonic-related content (Movie-Robotnik-Positivity, 2022).
On January 16th, 2024, Hollywood Handle announced a potential “Shadow the Hedgehog” title (Hollywood Handle, 2024). It is unclear at the moment if it’s a limited series on Paramount +, or if it’s a movie. It’s also unclear if this rumor is true.

For the love of god almighty, do NOT use Giant Freaking Robot as a source. They are notorious for spreading misinformation.
REDDIT (Disclaimer):
Reddit is notorious for leaking NDA special screenings, photos, as well as having members of the SCU crew make throw-away accounts to post teasers. “Leaks” of any kind can be found in either “#SonicMovie3” or “#SonicMovie” chat rooms with a spoiler warning.
Reddit posters that usually make these leaks get to see special screenings of films in mid-production. Understand that these advanced screenings are given to people on invite; they are asked to watch a film that’s in mid-production and critique it for improvement. If leaks are shared about their advanced screening, they can’t always go into full detail due to violation of their NDAs. On the rare occasion that they do share details of the screening, the posts are taken down by both Paramount and by Reddit Staff within 24 hours.
It is also common for there to be two screenings of the same movie with minor tweaks. I.E., in 2019, two versions of the first movie were available for test screening within a week’s time. One test screener’s filming experience featured a “campfire scene” and Longclaw going to earth with Sonic. Another test screener’s filming experience was the same, but featured a Dr. Robotnik and Agent Stone fight scene with General Walters. These were scrapped later on and found in the first movie’s “deleted scenes” feature.
The best advice that I can give for checking the authenticity of a post is to look for consistency, as well as HOW test screeners describe their experience. It’s easy to tell the difference between sharing a feeling and telling a fabricated story for likes.
Moving Forward:

Both Tika Sumpter and Pat Casey have shared that any members of SCU CANNOT share anything related to Sonic 3 or the Knuckles Series. They are under a strict NDA contract that could remove them from the projects entirely if discussed publicly. Questions online, private interviews, and so forth cannot be shared unless Paramount gives them permission to. If you ask them a question on Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, or any other social media platform regarding the movies, they will ignore it. This isn’t them being rude, it’s them honoring a NDA contract.
Expect radio silence for extended periods of time. The third Sonic film is meant to be a major improvement from the last two films. Paramount has been cracking down on leaks and anonymous tippers online for the past two months. There will be times where we receive a flood of information about the films, other times there will be nothing. This is completely normal, I promise.
If Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and the Knuckles Series are the end of SCU, know that I’ve had an incredible time enjoying the hype and moments with y’all. What an amazing journey we’ve been on! Thank you! And know that as long as there’s a talking blue hedgehog around, I’ll be here. Until then, let’s enjoy this adventure together!

Sonic The Hedgehog 3: A Perfect Blend of Mediums (Sonic 3 Review)
Released on December 20th, 2024, and officially the 21st in the UK, the third in a series of well-known blockbusters by Paramount Pictures, ‘Sonic The Hedgehog 3’ continues the trend of these films becoming more like the games they are inspired by, breaking away from the trends of typical kids movies to deliver a quality experience for both general audiences and fans of the source material alike.
An all-star cast was brought in for this, including Jim Carrey in a double feature, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Idris Elba, Keanu Reeves, and more to deliver the story with engaging performances. Speaking of, the film features Team Sonic on yet another adventure to stop a new threat, a mysterious hedgehog named Shadow. Along the way, Robotnik’s long lost grandfather Gerald joins Shadow and his grandson together, creating higher tension for the heroes on a quest with higher scales than ever before.
It’s incredibly clear that director Jeff Fowler and several others on the team are very big fans of the source material and want to create something truly special out of it. First off, the CGI is absolutely incredible, and a remarkable step up from the first two movies. In basically every scene, the characters look completely natural and don’t clash thanks to the textures and lighting, making them feel like a completely normal part of the world, meaning that your immersion won’t be broken at all. Because of this, you manage to feel every scene involving them, whether it be the fast-paced action or strong emotional moments, truly leaving a profound impact. The mise-en-scene as a whole is incredible, with settings like the G.U.N HQ, Eclipse Cannon, or just straight up space, all looking incredibly natural and well-done, to where you’re in constant awe at what you’re looking at. Everyone also looks incredibly dressed and fitting for whatever scene they’re in, further enhancing the tones of the scenes, especially comedy in the case of the Robotniks.
Special mention can also go to the cinematographers and choreography team in this film, because they pulled out all the stops for this one. The action in this movie is absolutely insane, with every moment involving it being incredibly dynamic with so many camera angles and tracking shots that make the movie such an exciting watch. One scene in particular makes great use of those tracking shots that help keep the immersion going and the blood pumping. The way the characters are framed also helps with this, helping them be intimidating and hilarious when the time calls for it. Shadow especially gets this treatment, with every scene involving him feeling like an event with the way he’s framed. It’s all truly impressive work, and much like the CGI, a massive step up from the first two films, which, while good, cannot compare to how amazing the action was here. It’s honestly night and day, as Sonic 3 is so much more articulated and expressive with it’s action that it honestly makes the first two look a bit pathetic in comparison.
The humour is where a few of my problems come about, though. This is obviously subjective, due to humour itself being such, but for me personally, some of the jokes didn’t land. Some were definitely really funny, don’t get me wrong. I especially loved ‘Revenge Guac’, but some others didn’t land for me unfortunately. The main problem is that some just last too long, to the point where I do wish they would get to the next scene to advance the plot, but they just drag on. They also can interrupt some very pivotal and exciting moments that make you wish they would cut back to the moments that get you hyped. One moment especially took me out of it and if I could swap back to the exciting action and skip the comedy, I would do it in a heartbeat. But, as I said before, many of the jokes do land for me, and I imagine many others, so overall I would say the comedy of this film is one of it’s positives, and even if the joke itself isn’t funny, a member of the cast may still deliver it well, or the comedic timing of it makes up for a lame punchline. I would still consider this movie pretty intentionally funny at times.
Speaking of the cast, they absolutely brought their a-games for this. Jim Carrey is at his absolute best here as both Ivo and Gerald Robotnik. He of course portrays the zaniness and tomfoolery he and one of his characters is known for very well, always managing to be humorous and cartoony. He does, however, manage to convey some serious moments surprisingly well, showing the range he has and why he’s a great actor. Speaking of great actors, Keanu Reeves absolutely killed it as Shadow, which makes sense given his roles like John Wick. He manages to convey Shadow’s pained and sullen emotions perfectly, making his character clear and entertaining to the audience. Shadow’s character was incredible in this, which I will get to later, but Reeves’ performance elevates it. Elba as Knuckles and Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Tails were both great, much like in Sonic 2 and the Knuckles TV show, with their lines all being delivered greatly for the scenes and elevating their tough but funny and heartwarming respective characters greatly. The same can be said for James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Krysten Ritter, Natasha Rothwell, Shemar Moore, Lee Majdoub and Adam Pally as the human characters, all being fairly important for the first few and helping deliver the emotions of the scene really well, such as the heartwarming family moments, and one scene especially manages to convey the sadness and tension without the need for dialogue thanks to Tika. But special mention has to go to Ben Schwartz as Sonic, who is the best he’s ever been. He manages to show Sonic in a way unlike the previous films, and delivers a surprisingly wide range for his voice that shows off how great of a voice actor he is, showing cockiness, sadness, and even rage unlike anything before. It’s all incredible work from everyone in the cast.
I think it’s about time I talked about the plot now, huh. It’s easily the most intense Sonic movie, with stakes unlike anything the previous films had. Where those ones just dealt with stopping an evil guy, this one does still have that, but on a global scale. By ramping it up like this, it draws audiences in and makes them wonder what will happen. Once again, Shadow stole the show, as despite his surprisingly little screentime, he managed to push the plot along greatly, feeling like a threat and keeping the story engaging thanks to his influence. Everyone else is great too, with it feeling like every character that was involved having a significant part to play. This is a big step up from the previous film, where it felt like some characters, mainly Tails, didn’t get to do anything too important. Here, everyone gets involved and it’s really nice to see. One problem I do have with the film’s plot, however, is the way it’s paced. Especially in the first act of the movie, it feels like some of the scenes go by really fast and don’t have that much time to sink in or leave much of an impact. As such, it does leave a feeling of whiplash going from one scene to the next before it truly sunk in. There is also the problem of some scenes feeling like they’re missing. What I mean is that it feels as if there was a scene cut from a point before a pivotal moment that could better justify said moment, such as with Gerald’s character and what happens with him. If these were in place, and this film had a longer runtime, this could likely have been alleviated. Regardless, these problems don’t drag the movie down all too much, especially by the final act. This film’s third act is basically perfect, from the amazing and dynamic action, the incredible performances, the high stakes, and the insane looking setpieces and characters, it all combines together for an absolutely breathtaking conclusion.
But now for why I titled this the way I did; why Sonic 3 is a perfect blending of mediums. I have been a Sonic fan ever since I was five years old, and I have been incredibly satisfied with the previous two films to see the characters I love so much on the big screen. That does come with the problem, however, of these not really feeling like video game movies, and more like movies that involve video games. The first one especially feels like a rather generic buddy-cop movie but with Sonic, and the second film does also fall into that trap, despite being a big step in the right direction. But, Sonic 3 was honestly perfect. It adapted so many elements from the games to make an engaging story for both Sonic fans and general audiences. Sonic Adventure 2, especially, was heavily drawn from for adaption, and since that’s my favourite Sonic game, how could I complain? Most of it is based around that, from Shadow’s character arc and overcoming his trauma, to Gerald trying to destroy the world, to journeys across said world. I will admit, Gerald is a very heavy departure from how he is in the games, and it may alienate people who get into the series from the movies, so I do wish he was handled a bit differently to better ease people into the franchise. Sonic himself is also victim of this, what with him being a static character who inspires others in the games, but here he does have a character arc of becoming part of a team, but I honestly don’t mind it. Regardless, this feels like a film that isn’t afraid of being a video game, but still knows that it’s a film first and foremost. One example of an opposite problem to the first two films is 2023’s Mario movie, which I did really like, but it was lacking in terms of story and overall value beyond it being an adaptation of a series I like. Sonic 3, in my opinion, strikes a perfect balance, being able to entertain general audiences but also feel like a movie for Sonic fans above all else. This can be felt through all the references to the source material, from iconography to setpieces. It feels like a Sonic movie, and not just a general audiences movie.
That is also why I have neglected to mention the film’s soundtrack. The first two films were fairly lacking in terms of being adaptations of a series known for iconic music, being rather generic action and family music throughout. As you can guess, Sonic 3 picks up the slack. Not perfectly, mind you. There is still plenty of basic rock and orchestra throughout, and there is still a way to go before something like, again, the Mario movie, which had sound cues all throughout, but it’s a big step up. Many leitmotifs from the games are lifted, like level clears, level themes, and main themes from the games themselves. Sonic Adventure 2 and it’s main theme, ‘Live and Learn’ absolutely got this treatment the most, however, and I could not be happier, as it elevates the scenes (especially one in particular) to be absolutely amazing.
Overall, while certainly not a perfect movie in regards to it’s pacing and some of it’s writing, Sonic The Hedgehog 3 has certainly proved that video games can make compelling stories. With generally great writing, outstanding performances, superb music work, breathtaking cinematography and action, and so many references that make it proud to be a Sonic movie, I can say with no hesitation that this is not only a great movie, but an incredible Sonic movie, and in my opinion, the best video game movie yet.
Objectively, this movie is more than likely a 7 or an 8 out of 10, but my love for this franchise, as well as how well things were executed were so great in my opinion, it made for one of my favourite movies of all time, so I will be giving Sonic The Hedgehog 3, a 10 out of 10.
The movies aren’t done either, with Sonic 4 already being confirmed and set for a release on March 19th 2027. This, combined with the amazing game that was Sonic X Shadow Generations releasing on October 25th last year to great reviews and fanfare, means that Sonic has been doing better than ever, and I for one, can’t wait to see where it goes from here.

CHAPTER II: ‘PERSONALITY’ TEST
“Can I come with you?” Sarco asked Jestel who’s ready to go to Idris with Jusarlie, Saine, and of course, Iolana.
“No, you have to teach today.” Jestel knows Sarco’s schedule.
“But they have to teach too?!” Sarco pointed at Jusarlie and Saine with his chin.
“They have substitutes. You don’t.” Jestel shortly ended it.
“Ricardo can—”
“Ricardo is still one of your students, Sarco.”
“Ugh! You’re annoying.” Sarco unexpectedly sulks.
“Isn’t our bet about Jusarlie? Why is Sarco becoming grumpier than him?” Saine chuckled.
“He’s very nosy.” Jestel shook his head. “Let’s go.”
They headed to Cairneye’s Mansion. Jestel had contacted Idris beforehand, saying that they would show up with a surprise guest. Cairneye’s Mansion is beautiful. It has a wide yard, beautifully decorated with flowers, bushes, fountain, and some statues. They head straight to Idris’s workshop that usually opens every day for people who need guidance. He made an exception today, because he’s feeling like he’s going to be exhausted after Jestel’s visit.
Stepping into the workshop, Iolana can’t help but observe her surroundings. The workshop gives her a cozy feeling. Warm lights, a tall armchair, some books that were left open on the desk, potions, herbs’ scent, incense that is burning in some spots, ritual candles. It’s just very homey. Judging by his workshop, Iolana has a feeling that Idris is a warm person.
“Papa, where are you?” Saine calls to his father.
Iolana continues to observe her surroundings again. She found a table full of framed pictures. Her eyes are staring at a picture of Saine and a guy, they’re smiling so sweetly with their eyes too. Saine is holding some flowers, Iolana assumed they’re canterbury bells based on how they look.
“I always have a panic attack whenever I heard you looking for me, Saine.” Saine’s father suddenly appeared out of nowhere.
“Can you stop scaring us, Uncle?” Jusarlie scoffed.
“Keep hating your own son and see where it’ll take you! Ugh!” Saine scoffed as well. Idris is such a cute silly man.
“It’s fun.” The said man smiles, his eyes are smiling too, looks like Saine got it from him. “Oh, hi! A girl. Human even. A sweet scented one.”
“Hi.” Iolana said shyly. Idris is incredibly handsome. His fashion taste is no match too. An elegant white top with black trousers, and even the touch of a man’s corset on his waist, or more like a wide belt? Iolana doesn’t know. Is it the outfit or his face? Iolana doesn’t know that either. Cairneye are so blessed, that’s the only thing that she knows. Best physical appearance combined with predicting future skill? Iolana immediately feels the need to have whatever they have. What a strong gene.
“Do a full test on her.” Jestel orders the older man around.
“Your name, Child?” Idris asked Iolana softly.
“Iolana Sterling.” Iolana is still shy.
“Holy Amadeus!” Idris is definitely surprised. “Welcome back!”
“Thank you…” The shier she gets, the more she hides behind Jusarlie. Jusarlie found it adorable, he feels warm because Iolana is already comfortable enough to seek for his protection.
“Alright, let’s see what you’ve got.” Idris nods and prepare his bowl.
“Papa, let’s use the pool.” Saine told his father. More like a warning, to be frank.
“Oh.” Idris immediately knew what his son meant. “Excuse me for asking this, but are you perhaps the last Sterling alive right now, Iolana?”
Iolana nods, “That’s correct.”
“Well, the pool it is!” Idris listened to his son and brought some bottles of potion with him. His feeling was right, he will be exhausted today.
They walked together to the pool, Idris took off his shoes and socks, then sat by the pool.
“Sit next to me, Iolana.” Idris told her with a smile on his face. How could she say no?
She took off her own shoes and socks. Saine, Jestel, and Jusarlie immediately looked away. 1700s is so funny. When she sits next to Idris, they’re looking at the pool again. Flustered.
“Have you… take off your socks?” Saine is confused. Under the dim light, Iolana looks like she’s still wearing her socks.
“She’s just almost as pale as Sarco and you, Saine.” Idris chuckled.
“Oh, I’m so sorry.” Saine is flustered again.
“Now, Iolana. Shall we begin?” Idris looks at Iolana again.
Iolana nods calmly, showing that she’s ready.
Idris begins the ritual. He poured two bottles of his potions into the pool. He touched the pool and stirred the water to the right. “Could you tell us what you see?”
“A dining table?” Iolana is confused.
“Can you tell us what’s on that table?”
“Five empty plates and one apple in the middle of the table.” Iolana explained.
“Five? Wow! Do you see any marks on the empty plates?” Idris asked again.
“Yes. Lion, snowflake, cat, sun, and a broken crown?” Iolana is so confused.
Oh, the four of them hit the mind links together.
Idris stirs the water to his right again. “Now, what do you see?”
“The apple cut in half. It’s flying over the plates, it looks confused.”
Idris laughs. It is indeed funny. He stirs the water again, “How about now?”
“It’s changing every second, I don’t know.” Iolana frowned.
“Do you want to explain it to us?”
“One second, it’s on the snowflake plate and the cat. Next second, the snowflake and the sun.”
“Ah! Does the apple have one frequent destination?”
“I don’t think so, the apple is really confused.”
Idris laughs again. “You’re adorable.” He stirs the water again.
Iolana doesn’t have to be told this time. “I see five love letters.”
“Okay, I can understand now. How about now?” Idris stirs the water to the right again.
“I see Saine crying.” Iolana still looks confused.
“Do you know why?” Idris is kind of surprised.
“I lied, it’s actually Jestel.” Iolana giggled. She’s in a goofy mood.
The four of them are dumbfounded. The last time Idris successfully lied to was when they were having pioneers’ dinner, and the very person who lied to him was Tearle Sterling. Yes, Iolana’s father himself.
“Why am I crying?” The said person is as confused.
“I’m not sure, you look very… devastated?” Iolana is concerned.
“That’s odd!” Idris stirs the water again.
“There’s a throne.” Iolana answered.
“Who sits on it?” Idris asked.
Iolana remains silent.
“Iolana? It’s okay, you can say it.” Jestel said softly.
Can’t you read her mind? Jusarlie asked Idris through mind links.
I swear on Roberto Cairneye, I can’t read this little girl at all, Idris answered.
“It’s Jestel.” Iolana finally answered. “…or me.”
They’re definitely surprised by that.
“And that’s also my omen of Sterling.” Idris giggled. “What a coincidence, right?”
“It’s just a possibility, right? I would never do that to Jestel.” Iolana is worried about her own future.
“Yes! Don’t worry, Iolana.” Idris’ smile is so reassuring. He stirs the water again. “Do you see something?”
“Few things. Sword, crown, herbs, map, books, potions.”
Saine’s jaw dropped at that one. Idris just nods, not wanting Iolana to feel uncomfortable.
“Before I explain your results, let me talk with Jestel first. Are you okay with that, Iolana?” Idris asked her.
Iolana nods at the question, “Can I wear my shoes back?”
“Of course, Iolana.” Idris chuckled, he dried his feet with a spell and put his shoes back. “Let’s go, Jestel.”
Iolana gets her feet out of the water, Jusarlie and Saine immediately look away again.
“Hey, Saine. Could you do the spell that your father just casted for himself?” Iolana asked at Saine.
“Is it okay for you—you know…” If Saine is a human, he’s blushing pink right now.
“Yeah, of course!”
“Excuse me, Iolana.” Saine said before looking towards Iolana. He swings his hand above Iolana’s bare feet while casting the spell.
“Wow, you should teach me that!” Iolana is amazed. “Thank you, Saine.”
“N-no problem.” Saine looks away again.
“Just to let you know, it’s okay to look at me. I grew up being okay with my feet on display at home.”
“It’s just… we feel like a pervert…” Saine admitted.
“I wonder what’s the limit of dressing here in Krashoviel.” Iolana laughed. “I’m done. You are safe to look.”
Jusarlie and Saine hesitantly look toward Iolana again. They feel relieved when her feet are fully covered with her long skirt and shoes again.
“The girls are usually covering their feet, that’s why we act that way earlier.” Jusarlie explained.
“I want to be controversial and show my ankle to the streets.” Iolana giggled.
“No, no, no!” Jusarlie and Saine panicked. “Arms are okay, but ankle? Wow, that’s pornographic.”
“That’s confusing.” Iolana nods. “What about chest area? How far can the neckline go?”
“Chest area is okay, as long as the breasts are not like… full on display? Ankles, however, is a big no.” Saine explained. “I feel like invading your privacy earlier when casting that spell.”
Iolana laughed. Krashoviel is so funny for her, when it’s just her who doesn’t even leave her house before going to Krashoviel. She’s lucky she’s easy-going and pretty.
“Drink this, don’t you feel tired?” Saine hands her a glass of questionable drink.
“Not really.” Iolana accepts the glass. “Oh, what is this?”
She smelled the drink, and it smelled like strawberry! She drinks it without hesitation until the last drop. “I like it! What is this? Strawberry juice?”
Curiosity kills the cat!
“Our bloods.” Saine grins.
“Oh?” Iolana is concerned. “What would that do? Whose blood?”
“Three of us. It can give you strength! And you can summon us anytime you want when you need it. You can also talk to us through telepathy.” Saine explained excitedly.
“Summon you? How?” Iolana is interested in this.
“Just say our name and say you need us. For example, Jusarlie I need you.” Jusarlie explained further.
“Oh! I get it.” Iolana nods. “But why? Isn’t that… personal? Don’t you think I need to gain your trusts first?”
“You already did.”
It feels too fast for Iolana, but she accepts it as it is. She’s grateful that they care about her a lot, but are they?
—
“Jestel, that was the most entertaining reading that I ever did. I thanked you for that.” Idris is giggling non-stop.
“Elaborate, please.” Jestel is frustrated.
“You will fight your best friends.” Idris started off so strong. “You, Saine, Jusarlie, Sarco, and Hiael.”
“Why?” Jestel asked, still oblivious.
“You’re going to fall in love with Iolana. All of you.” Idris stated. “Some of you already did, I checked my son and he’s already blooming for her.”
“That doesn’t make any sense.” Jestel shook his head.
“Love never makes any sense, Jestel.” One thing about Idris is that he hits hard with his words, accidentally or not. “Especially the throne for her vamp host. You’re going to fight really dirty for that. I can see it.”
“Nonsense.” Jestel scoffed.
“I won’t help you if you cry someday.” Idris threatened him. Scares him for sure, where will Jestel run to for advice if not Idris?
“What should I do about this?” Jestel is stressed out.
“Accept it.” Idris calmly told him.
“What can I do to make her choose me?”
“That remains a mystery.” Idris doesn’t know either. “I’m more surprised you’re not bringing up anything about the throne. You already fell for her, don’t you?”
“No. I just trust her.” Jestel explained himself.
“You gave her your blood, along with Saine and Jusarlie.” Idris points that out.
“She’s a human, Idris. I just want to protect her.”
“Sure, sure. Protect her. When we all know it’s special and intimate.” Idris mocked him.
“It’s not that intimate.”
“Imagine she chose Sarco as her vamp host.” Idris immediately puts a scenario.
“Fine, it is intimate.”
“Best of luck, Jestel.” Idris taps his shoulder a few times. “It’s going to be anything but easy.”
“She’s not capable of wiping out the whole Sinflame, right? She’s lovely, she would never do that.” Jestel asked Idris for reassurance.
“Not yet. However, if I was you… I would never get on her wrong side. She’s a complicated girl.”
—
“Your father is so majestic.” Iolana admitted. Truly smitten by Saine’s father.
“You think I’m ugly?” Saine acts like he has been hurt.
“I never said that.” Iolana is still giggling over Idris.
“Don’t feed his ego, Iolana.” Jusarlie scoffed.
“Get over it, Jusarlie. She thinks I’m handsome.” Saine is being cocky right now.
“Your father reminds me of a pine tree.” Iolana sudden words silenced them.
Jusarlie and Saine is so confused. There’s no way she just said that like it’s a normal thing to do.
“I can’t believe we lose you to Sarco’s species.” Saine faked a sigh.
“Species is insane.” Jusarlie laughs. “Why a pine tree?”
“Tall, look good, calming, I don’t know? He reminds me of it.”
“Bloody hell, she really is a Sarco’s species.” Jusarlie couldn’t believe it.
“Why Sarco?” Iolana is curious.
“He’s odd. Just like you. I don’t mean it in a bad way, it’s creative. Sometimes we just… don’t understand.” Saine explained. “He did that a lot, saying I look like the lamp near south’s stairs and so on.”
“You should show me the lamp later.” Iolana is invested now.
“Hey, small question, but if you don’t want to answer it’s fine. What happened to your hair? Did you get punished?” Jusarlie suddenly hits Iolana with a personal and nosy question.
Iolana expects this with her a little bit over the shoulder-length hair. It is unusual for a girl to have hair that short, at least in their era.
“Well, it was an accident. It got cut by my brother when we were practicing sword, so my mom cut it all to this length.” Iolana explained. “I’m waiting for it to be long again. It’s troublesome, I can’t tie it properly, yet it’s annoying enough to be left undone like this.”
Jusarlie and Saine nod in unison.
Idris and Jestel went back to the pool area. Jestel looks stressed, while Idris looks happy. What a weird combination.
“Iolana, do you mind if I ask you to lend us your power?” Idris asked.
“Huh? I have power?” Iolana is confused again.
“Bigger than you think.” Idris giggled. “We are also testing it out.”
“Sure, if it’s for a good reason…” Iolana is totally unsure.
“We are going to search for Jestel’s long lost brother, Holstein.” Idris explained briefly.
“But I don’t know what he looks like?” Iolana is still questioning him.
“You will, if you succeed.” Idris smiles warmly. “Would you do it?”
Iolana nods after a few seconds of hesitation. She sits between Idris and Jestel, making half of a circle.
“Saine, Jusarlie, let’s go.” Idris points at the empty seats.
“You need us as well?” Jusarlie questioned but obeyed.
“You were just doing nothing, so why not?” Idris is an entertaining man for sure.
They held each other’s hands. For the first time ever, Jestel could understand what the romance books were talking about. The electricity and the butterflies, he feels them now.
“I seek upon Holstein Sinflame whereabouts,” as Idris said those words, there is a big cloud forming over Cairneye’s mansion. Thunder begins to growl, lightning begins to show.
They close their eyes, focusing on the name Holstein Sinflame.
They begin to see a vision. A palace, but not Krashiovel’s palace.
“Whose vision is this?” Jestel asked.
“Iolana.” Idris answered.
“Have you found the girl?” Holstein asked them.
“She killed herself along with her father, Your Highness.”
“Did you see her face? Is it really her?” Holstein asked again.
“No, but there is no way she could run away. We’ve blocked all the access.”
“Tearle is the smartest vampire that I’ve ever met. She could be in Krashoviel now with my stupid brother.” The Prince of Slevado is furious.
“That would be the same as suicide, her blood smells so fucking sweet.” Holstein chuckled. “Where is she?”
“Holstein, you must come back to Krashoviel and fetch that girl.”
“Unnecessary, I think she’s gone.”
The vision turns black again, the clouds are nowhere to be found, the thunder is no longer roaring.
“Wow, he’s a traitor.” Saine couldn’t believe what he just saw.
Idris was the only one laughing, he couldn’t contain it. “It’s so funny, you’re swapping brothers.”
Iolana holds back her giggle, she doesn’t want to be rude.
“Thank you, Iolana.” Idris has stopped laughing. “We wouldn’t make it without you, we’ve tried for hundred years to get a vision of Holstein.”
“I didn’t do that much, I’m glad I could help.” Iolana is still oblivious about her real power, buried deep down under that human form.
“Here’s your test result, make sure you read it alone without them lurking.” Idris intentionally whispered loudly.
“I will lurk.” Saine smiles.
“Have some class.” Idris faked a sigh.
“We’ll head out, Idris. Thank you for your service.” Jestel stood up, the others followed.
“Bye, Papa.” Saine waves at his father.
“Don’t come back.”
“You see? He’s not as handsome as you think, Iolana.” Saine used that as a way to show her his father’s teasing habit.
“Forgivable if he has that elf type of face.” Iolana giggled.
“Aw, you flustered me.” Idris chuckled at Iolana. She has a sense of humor too!
“Let’s go.” Jestel is not having it. Well, at least now he knows that he truly fell for her.
—
Saine is being told to look after Iolana while the others held emergency meeting for the third time today, of course he enjoys this! They’re currently putting Iolana’s clothes into the wardrobe.
“I think you have good eyes for apparels. I want your wardrobe.” Saine adores Iolana’s taste in fashion. “Ah, the trousers! Where did you get these?”
“Come on, Saine. Those are just my casual and practice clothes. I got it from my human maids.” Iolana chuckled. “I love my pretty dresses, but I barely get to wear it.”
“You will wear it more often now, there are so many events that we usually have to attend.” Saine informed her. “Ah, you don’t have any ball gowns! Do you want to go to Charson? You’ll need some gowns for royal ball and Jestel’s birthday.”
“Is it far?” Iolana asked.
“Not really, but we need to cover your scent.” Saine chuckled. “I’ll put some spell on you. It could last for two hours, at least.”
—
“Don’t play with me, Jestel. What do you mean Holstein is a traitor?” Sarco shook his head.
“That’s what we saw.” Jusarllie admitted.
“They must’ve brainwashed our Holstein,” Odelia, the queen on the throne, scoffed. Clearly annoyed.
“Hiael betrayed his nation by his own will, it is not an impossibility if Holstein ever do the same.” Idris shrugged his shoulder. “However, this Sterling girl…”
“What Sterling girl?” Raphael, the queen’s brother, is shocked.
“She came with this letter.” Jestel gave them the letter that Tearle wrote.
“She’s back? Here? In Krashoviel?” Sullivan, the queen’s father, is puzzled.
“She could end your bloodline.” Idris said without any burden.
“I’d rather be dead than to fight back, it’s no use.” Sullivan chuckled. “Oh, Sterling.”
“Are Sterling that dangerous?” Wilhelmina, Jestel’s niece, is too young to watch how frightening Sterling can be back then in the war field.
“I’m really scared of them, take that information as you wish.” Sullivan said to his great-granddaughter.
“Oh!” Wilhelmina is surprised. “Is she beautiful?”
“Very.” Jestel answered. “I would do anything for her.”
“In front of your queen aunt is just insane, Jestel.” Idris laughed at his son.
“I don’t blame him.” Jusarlie stands with him.
“They fell for her charm,” Sarco scoffed. “I would ne—”
“Careful, now.” Idris warned Sarco. “You will fall for her too. I saw it.”
“Who else?” Odelia asked her son.
“Saine and Hiael. The five of them will fight to be her vamp host.” Idris informed them.
“This is ridiculous, let’s just kill that girl.” Raphael is furious. “She will tear us apart.”
“If Sinflame is no longer worthy of the throne, then just let it be.” Odelia is calmer than the others.
“What on earth are you saying, Odelia?” Raphael is getting more furious. What an old grumpy man.
“Grandma Odelia is not wrong.” Wilhelmina is against his father.
“Father, look at this—” Raphael seeks Sullivan’s support.
“I’m not going to say anything.” Sullivan is busy cleaning each of his gemstones.
“That girl won’t do it by herself, right? Who are the potential traitors?” Raphael asked Idris.
“Have you ever done a friendly practice with Tearle?” Idris questioned him back.
“No, why?”
“Then you are not in the place to say that.” Sullivan makes it clear. “One Sullivan equals five Sinflame. Train her as hard as you can, give her the best facility, and don’t you dare to let other nations have her.”
“Yes, Grandpa.” Jestel nods.
“When will you sit on the throne, Jestel?” Odelia asked, she’s tired of the kingdom’s bullshits.
“As soon as possible, I’m still preparing myself.” Jestel feels a heavy weight on his shoulders. He can’t control his feelings toward Iolana, that is what bothers him the most right now.
—
“Mr. Cairneye! Oh, my vamp, close the shop!” The receptionist panicked when he saw Saine smiling at him.
The workers immediately temporarily close the shop, the other guests who are waiting outside are getting used to it now. Must be one of the pioneers making some sudden appearance.
“How can we help you, Your Highness?” The shop workers are ready to serve him.
“I’d like some ball gowns for this cute little girl.” Saine pushed Iolana slightly.
“Of course, we’ll measure her.” Two of the workers quickly measured Iolana, while the others asked Saine about the gown’s details.
“What’s your favorite color, Iolana?” Saine questioned her. “You can name five.”
“White and pink. As for the others, I’ll leave it to you. I trust you.” Iolana is never failed to make Saine feels so… flustered.
“White, pink, blue, red, and purple.” Saine told the worker.
“Which shade, Your Highness?”
“Actually… make it six. White, violet, navy, sky blue, maroon, and pink. Maybe a bold pink like this one? Iolana, do you like it?” Saine asked her again.
“Loves it.” Iolana stares adoringly at the color that Saine just showed her. It’s almost fuchsia, just a little less bold.
“Pardon me, Your Highness. She looks unfamiliar to me, is she a new citizen? I’ve never seen her before.” Jeremy asked Saine, trying to be as polite as possible.
“Yes, she is. She’s Iolana Sterling, Jeremy.”
“S-Sterling, Your Highness?”
“She has a perfect body proportion.” One of the measurement workers said to the other.
“Thank you.” Iolana whispered to them.
“We apologize, we didn’t mean to…”
“It’s okay. I love your compliment. You’re being genuine.” Iolana smiles. “I’m done, Saine.”
She walked to Saine as he smiled at her proudly.
“Payment should be here by tomorrow morning. Thank you for your service, Jeremy.” Saine informed the owner of that grand boutique.
“Always happy to be at your service, Your Highness and Lady Sterling. Thank you for trusting us.” The workers and Jeremy bow a little to show their respect and devotion towards the pioneers.
They walked out of Charson and went home instantly. After they got back to Iolana’s room, Saine seemed confused.
“Are you not going to ask anything about them referring me as… you know?”
“Jusarlie told me about the royal family’s tree. I was a little surprised, I’m so sorry I interacted with you so casually.” Iolana admitted, feeling a little guilty.
“No, no! Keep being casual, we’re equal.” Saine quickly reassured her. “No one dares to challenge a Sterling, not even the oldest Sinflame alive. You’re still a part of the pioneers.”
Pioneers.
It sounds incredibly weird for Iolana, but deep down in her heart… it feels just right.

Spider's Big Prometheus Thing: Index Post
Being a list of all the posts produced in the course of this inexplicable project of mine. This project is now complete, at an unexpectedly extensive thirty entries long.
I swear, I didn't intend for it to go like that, but it was fun to write.
All entries have at least a minimum level of citations for where to start looking for more facts on any subject external to the movie itself, which includes everything from how DNA is sequenced to how Nickolodeon slime is made, and from the comedy in mislabeled portraits of early church fathers to the correct attribution of a cat's contributions to historical linguistics.
Be aware that there's also hidden rambling and bonus facts in the image alt text. A lot of them.
0. Introduction
Setting the scene, including my background, my intent, and where this movie is going.
1. Opening
Expectations, landscapes, and aliens.
Rambles: DNA, whether aliens would have it, and why it doesn't look like a pale bacon ladder.
Alt-text rambles: nano-bubbles.
2. Discovery
The Isle of Skye is gorgeous, the movie attempts to establish its themes, and why it had already got my hackles up. Rambles: how cool ancient and pre-modern peoples were, the implications of humanoid figures in European cave paintings, and misplaced lions. Alt-text rambles: seriously, Skye is just so cool. Erich von Däniken and modern publishing royalties are not.
3. David
We meet the loneliest android, and his fandom of choice. Rambles: I go nuts for a paragraph over Proto-Indo-European. Alt-text rambles: Help me remember a dude's name, that time Ron Perlman saw Sigourney Weaver do something so cool he forgot to act, and a Coronation Street conspiracy theory.
4. Humans (Derogatory)
We meet the human crew, and analyze why they're a mismatch to the movie's established expectations, and what subgenre they fit in most. It isn't the one the movie seems to be aiming for. Rambles: 50s B-movies and their Men Of Science, modern movies and their quietly suffering scientists. Alt-text rambles: inconsistently moist characters, Idris Elba's christmas tree decorations.
5. Pseudoarchaeology (Extremely Derogatory)
We meet Old Man Capitalism, poor logistics, and how the movie began to really lose me through dropping in some racist pseudoscience tropes. Rambles: more logistics (of alien bioengineering), historical art styles, what the world was getting up to in the 600s CE Alt-text rambles: Linguistics, more ranting, the life and extraordinarily ornate death of Kʼinich Janaabʼ Pakal. Rants: the existence of writing, people who don't look like you can still think, stargazing and how conspiracy theorists don't understand it.
6. Roads
Poor firearm safety with Chekhov's Gun, when movies move too fast, atmospheric chemistry, and the moment I began to yearn for blood. Rambles: First contact protocols, why 3% CO₂ won't kill you but it will make you weird, my personal experience digging up a Roman road. Alt-text rambles: the logistics of securing items in moving craft, linguistics, atmospheric science, colorblind-friendly diagram design, swearing about orology, and cursing the crew for their fictional crimes against archaeology. Rants: Why they should've stayed in orbit, and my impassioned defense of historically significant transportation infrastructure.
7. Masking
The bit that made most people realize these characters were idiots. Featuring an attempt at themes. Rambles: NASA's policies on biological contaminants Alt-text rambles: Benedict Wong having nothing to do, helmet design, driving on dusty track, the tiny overlap between archaeological horrors and Minecraft, the CDC's excellent captions on men sneezing. Rants: Nominating a man for the Heinrich Schliemann Archaeology Award, all these people are catching space covid
8. Ghosts
Comparing the Engineers to their series antecedents, and I develop a slight soft spot for the geologist. Rambles: Set design in Alien, how carbon dating works. Alt-text rambles: Adventure games, GET DOWN MISTER PRESIDENT, I get very excited for Dune: Part Two, the archival devotion of people with rare blorbos.
9. Dignity
Personal, professional, social, and media context for the treatment of people's remains. Rambles: Personal experiences around the archaeological discovery of human skeletons, professional codes of ethics, movies that handle dead bodies better by being more crass about it. Alt-text rambles: None, the main text gets full focus this time.
10. Atmosphere
How intertextual imagery is overused, how the one major character arc is developing, and a whole grab bag of miscellaneous shambolic events. Rambles: How tourist-breath can destroy artifacts, and a deleted scene Alt-text rambles: Whether explaining mysteries is always the wrong decision in fantasy, the usefulness of helmets, Mass Effect's loading screens, please someone give me more recommendations for things where Giger creatures aren't all bad, and how cultural variation in gestures can make you look like an asshole. Rants: they aren't done desecrating the dead oh boy it's just gonna get worse
11. Decontamination
How to present an audience with events that make no sense, how to do it eerily, and how Prometheus does this by accident. Rambles: NASA's Apollo 11 quarantine policies Alt-text rambles: How 2001: A Space Odyssey put on a cosmic lightshow, how traditions are faked for political and social power in Midsommar, confusing lab equipment, robot arm safety, the use of camper vans in space exploration, umarell behavior, and robot horror movies. Bonus text rambles: pressurized gas cylinder safety, and how the cargo of one truck apparently tried to join Roscosmos. Rants: Laboratory safety
12. Shocking
Mary Shelly would not be proud of them. Rambles: Which home electrical appliances their tomfoolery is equivalent to. Alt-text rambles: Semiotics and Alien, reuse of props and art department equipment, the cast's inability to look at things, how the first chestburster scene intelligently incorporated spontaneity, and I completely lose my mind over a single computer readout, finding out in the process that the Engineers are close cousins to the common house mouse. Rants: I didn't think that "don't stick electrical plugs in people's ears" would be something that needed to be said, but here we are.
13. Family Tree
A soothing ramble about some of the cool bits of my job. Rambles: How evolution has made some vertebrate blood white or green, how genomes are sequenced, and how to determine the relatedness of species. And more. A lot more. I love my job. It's so cool. Alt-text rambles: How Nickelodeon slime was made, how hecking tiny molecules are, why blue-tongued skinks have blue tongues, my review of Dune: Part Two, how hard I worked to not turn Gene Wilder into a jumpscare, lots of enthusiastic explanations of DNA sequencing techniques, the aesthetics of the machines wot do that for you, how "snip" no longer sounds like a verb to me, and how I started out as a computational scientist.
14. Cheers
David poisons a man, and how his character arc ties into christian-influenced existential dread. Rambles: series continuity, gnostic theology, Ridley Scott's beliefs. Alt-text rambles: How to ruin petri dishes, Vickers' questionably carbon-based existence, the game of Operation, hand doubles in filming, how the funniest possible misidentification of an early church figure is wandering around the internet, the cool genders of suit actors, gnostic Archons, and the Engineers as Sophia. Rants: Holloway seems unaware that archaeologists study dead people, Ridley Scott is his own biggest problem.
15. Unworthy
The movie does something I'm not going to joke about. Don't read this if you're having a bad day. Big content warning for Holocaust imagery.
16. Intimacy
Your asexual commentator grapples with Hollywood's terrible track record on romantic and sexual chemistry. Rambles: Why we don't say an archaic-looking species is "older" than another, how religious scientists do what they do Alt-text rambles: the human family tree, Abbott and Costello, pitcher plant cultivars, the creative possibilities of a Buddhist version of this movie, and Stephen Still's lack of accordions. Rants: I've never been a boyfriend but I'm pretty sure that's not how you do it
17. Threat
Prometheus takes a hard turn into old slasher movie tropes. Rambles: A movie trailer that gave Wee Spider the screaming heebies Alt-text rambles: The age rating of Prometheus, a spontaneous X-Files crossover AU, Pitch Black, how likely it may or may not be that the images in the post will get flagged, critter behavior, insufficient EVA suit design, and the content balancing I take into account when selecting screenshots. Rants: This movie does not seem to know what it is. Alt-text rants: Ditto, focusing on characterization.
18. Flames
"Mac wants the flamethrower!" Rambles: I wandered off in the middle to watch a 40k comedy video, does that count? Alt-text rambles: More content-balancing, what kind of very English critter David appears to be, dune buggy design, Star Wars: The Old Republic is worth your time, Dune: Part Two is worth your time, an extremely long ramble about integration of CG background elements, and Oblivion memes. Alt-text rants: Movie color grading and lighting, undercutting scares.
19. Stars
The movie shows how good it can be when no dialog is involved. Rambles: The movie Contact and how Prometheus could've learned from it. Alt-text rambles: How I estimate large numbers from a still image, a brief Baldur's Gate 3 appearance, the set design and staging of a room made for giants with squishy computers, the use of color to make a cohesive scene, facts about Uranus, visual intimation of threat, VFX wizardry, practical FX wizardry, Michael Fassbender's wordless acting.
20. Expectant
The movie shows how good it can be when character choice is removed from the horror. Rambles: the inspiration and place of chestbursting in Alien movies, the continuing religious symbolism in the movie, the clunky dialog, how to build or undermine tension, and the good blending of practical and CG effects, and how tiny creatures of the ocean manage to be more uncanny than horror critters. Alt-text rambles: reading details the prop department never meant for you to see. Alt-text Rants: the return of the head-exploder and the first sight of actual PPE, slowly mangling a plot point's name until it has been thoroughly folded, spindled, and mutilated.
21. Underdelivered
The movie shows how terrible it can be when horror doesn't build tension. Rambles: Contortionists in horror, hillbilly horror/hixploitation movies. Alt-text rambles: Resident Evil 7, Dead Space and "strategic dismemberment"
22. Hubris
The movie tries to do some themes again Rambles: my ineffable desire to genetically sequence ditch weeds, Left Behind Alt-text rambles: Brad Dourif's commitment to the bit in The Two Towers, nigh-invisible wheelchair product placement, the Fallout series in general and the upcoming show in particular, praise for an epic-length critique of Left Behind, Robert Zemeckis' bizarre quest to mocap everything Rants: This movie does a terrible job representing both religiosity and atheism
23. Informed
Exposition is delivered, and plot points try to knit together. Rambles: The Silent Hill movie, Pacific Rim Alt-text rambles: Pyramid Head's secret unclothed backside, demanding environmental enrichment for scientists, greebling, Tumblr's favorite shitty copper merchant Rants: What could've been done instead of an exposition dump and daddy issues Alt-text rants: these people and their interior design are tempting fate and testing my patience
24. Inscribed
I go rogue and ramble about constructed languages and cuneiform for an entire post. Guest appearances from Klingon pop music and a delightfully eccentric Assyriologist. Rambles: All of it. Alt-text rambles: the self-awareness of conlangers, fingernail length, Schleischer's Fable as a warm-up for the next section, my primary conlang derangement, speculation about whether cuneiform was legible for the blind, my beef with the cowards at Lucasfilm for refusing to use Star Wars' coolest letters, my love for Warframe's Grineer, going into far too much detail about redesigning Prometheus' Engineer script, and finally, the many crocodiles of ancient egyptian hieroglyphs. Rants: None/all of it
25. Judgement
We discuss some of what the movie doesn't. Rambles: Fiction and morality, Blade Runner, biblical allusions the story could've made and doesn't Alt-text rambles: Lance Henriksen's insane career, the paintings of John Martin and a surprise George Washington, Rutger Hauer's effect on Blade Runner, my tentative plans for the next essay series. Rants: Germs, old man makeup. Alt-text Rants: The characters are reading ahead in the script again, the half-assed Engineer writing system continues to hurt me
26. Awoken
I go bananas over PIE. Rambles: fix-it fic for this damned movie, PIE, how to avoid PIE, how to analyze PIE, and my personal alternative to PIE. Alt-text rambles: calculating how long the Engineer's overslept, their potential spiritual kinship to Moominpapa, behind the scenes photos of the suit actors, Prometheus rants in the days of LiveJournal, the game Hades, how hard it personally is to get PIE right, the linguistics nerdery of the Hittite empire, and watermarks. Rants: how the movie fails its premise and hurts my soul with linguistics
27. Shortcomings
The characters, and movie, fail to get their message across to someone bent on their destruction. Rambles: David's confused religious symbolism, Star Trek Alt-text rambles: My desire for fanfic, behind the scenes photos, what other critters the Engineer's suit actor has played, the naming of Australopithecines, crash-proofing a movie set, alien gender, Gandahar and how French animated SF in the 80s was awesome, Scorn and its expert consultation from a cenobite, and Doctor Strangelove. Rants: the assumptions of the human characters, I go from trying to be measured to actively spiting the writer for his take on thoughtful SF Alt-text Rants: Del Toro is the only one who gets me, the movie has forgotten its main character just had a major surgery, one last rant about how terribly unsafe the Prometheus was as a ship, before it becomes definitively not a ship.
28. Momentum
It's the bit where she doesn't turn. Rambles: How to fix the dumbest thing we've seen in a hot minute, Edge of Tomorrow and feeling Tom Cruise's fear, how the dead thing is never really dead in horror. Alt-text rambles: How hard it is to find the most catchy song in We Love Katamari, more behind the scenes pictures of my blorbos, Friday the 13th Part IV, bad braille, and trilobites. Rants: I mean how can you not when the movie forgets how space works? Like, the idea of 3D space as a concept? Also, a particular rock earns my ire, and my ranting about interior designs on ships finally pays off.
29. Dissonance
The ending of the movie, and its tonal incoherency. Rambles: Protagonist-centric morality and lack thereof Alt-text rambles: Star Trek TNG, green blood, caecilian teeth. Rants: shallow christian themes, sequels that could have been, Shaw's confusingly deployed robo-racism Alt-text rants: sequel disappointments, inadvisable post-caesarian activities, how the hell do you fit that much 'burster into one chest, biological plausibility in alien extend-o-mouths
30. Justification
A breakdown of a post-release interview with Ridley Scott, explaining some missing details. Rambles: Gnosticism again, Mesoamerican and European human sacrifice and the exoticization of shared cultural practices, and a hearty book recommendation. Alt-text rambles: Icelandic volcanoes, The Collector (2009), Stephen Speilberg's War of the Worlds and how scaring the shit out of someone isn't necessarily the job of a horror film, the Tollund Man, unique cultural practices, Hello Future Me, and my opinions on what we've seen of Alien: Romulus. Rants: Ancient peoples weren't stupid, an unexamined christian-centric worldview, an unexamined christian-centric worldview, I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGh
#Prometheus (2012)#Prometheus 2012#this ended up extremely long but it was worth it#the curse has now been lifted#I am free

Hi. I was breaking down something you put into your story The Madness of Turaga; the "Eles Raliska". Now I assume this is an in-universe term for the creation machines, or at least how the matoran see them, so I'd like to ask if my breakdown is right: *Eles* from *Olu* and *Rali* are strightforward, but then is it **Iska** from **Akha** or **Ska** from **Xa**? I'd like to ask because I have a post-Reformation headcanon and am trying to figure out how mobile those machines are/were.
You are entirely correctly on the first two parts! Eles is the South Insular form of olu(a) "aperture, opening, access, door, doorway, gateway", while rali(kk) is South Insular for "producer, spawner, factory line, assembly machine", a term which was used to refer to the creation machines of the various species in the MU. In fact, a standardized North Matoric form of this term is also found in the story "Without Faces, Without Eyes" (rala).
The last element is iska, a South Insular form of akha[3]:
So eles raliska translates to something like "aperture of the spawn-machine". Some trivia: The reason that I used a South Insular form is due to the fact that this is the variety of early Matoric that would've been spoken on Lesovikk's home island. I used the properties of the names of the Matoran associated with Lesovikk (Sarda, Idris, etc.) as the basis for the development of the South Insular variety.

“Why are some of them studs and some of them loops?” Magnus finds himself asking, fingers trailing through Alexander’s hair and the tips of his fingers catching on and teasing the small pieces of adamas and crystals.
Alexander nudges him, silently asking him for more caresses and Magnus indulges him happily.
“Different trials.” Alexander murmurs, “the more important ones are rings. The harder a trial, the more adamas allowed to create the piercings. They become hoops when the stud design no longer works for the adamas use.”
Magnus hates that piece of information.
Hates how he looks at Alexander’s ears and sees four studs and nine rings — all of them varying in degrees of thickness and intricacy — and hates the fact that it only paves the way for more questions.
Magnus doesn’t know what kind of trials Alexander went through.
But Magnus also knows that he’s not going to like the information he learns, which is why he’s is being careful of what he asks and Alexander never lies, but is careful with his answers in return.
For Magnus’ sake, rather than his own.
“Should I ask?”
Alexander looks at him, eyes deep with emotion and Magnus lets himself bask in the adoration that he knows is just for him.
“No, not just yet.” Alexander admits and he leans forward and presses a kiss to Magnus’ jaw and then another to his cheek. “I’m needed at the Institute tonight and Idris in the morning. You—” And Alexander hesitates but he doesn’t lie. Instead he sighs and shakes his head, “I don’t think you’d let me go to Idris if we discussed it tonight.” The fact that Alexander is admitting that already has fury piping like lava through Magnus.
“I’m not sure I want to let you go now.” Magnus admits, but Alexander already knew that, or he wouldn’t keep Magnus from asking.
“I promise you, no one is a true threat to me in Idris.” Alexander murmur quietly, “maybe politically, but not physically and certainly not emotionally.”
Magnus ponders on that as Alexander kisses his knuckles and his palms and then his lips linger on Magnus’ wrist, caressing his pulse.
“I get you from the moment you’re back and settled?” Magnus asks, knowing better than to demand Alexander’s presence immediately. The Institute will need to be briefed and Alexander reassure them with his presence before he retreats.
Alexander nods — without hesitation — and kisses his pulse again.
“Of course. Do you want me to bring some of the bread you like from Alicante?”
Magnus pauses his thoughts for a moment.
As much as he loathes Alexander spending any unnecessary time in Alicante, he also adores the warm brown and golden loaves that Alexander brings to him.
“Only if you let me portal you from the Institute.” Magnus offers, a compromise that Alexander submits to with a soft smile and nod.
“I’ll message you as soon as I can.”
Alexander promises, his voice as soft and reverent as a covenant and Magnus accepts it with a kiss.

So, this is probably a stretch but I have a theory for why the books are named like they are:
The Last King of Faerie
The Last Prince of Hell
The Last Shadowhunter
What if the huge thing that completely changes life in the Shadowhunter Universe forever is the fact that all of the groups in TSC unite, as in Shadowhunters and the different Downworlder groups stop acting as completely separate entities and unite under one governing body/as one people. The Clave, Faerie royalty, the Spiral Council, and all the other councils over the separate groups are dissolved.
The strict borders around Faerie that make it almost impossible and highly dangerous for anyone other than faeries to enter are completely opened, every group moves freely about it. Idris is opened so that all Downworlders can move about freely in it. Shadow Markets become a place where you see an even mix of every group and where Shadowhunters aren't treated with high suspicion. Shadowhunters, Faeries, Werewolves, Vampires, Warlocks, and every group start living closer together, they become literal neighbors. They also all unite under one government so that their "Congress" or "Parliament" is made up of Shadowhunters, Faeries, Warlocks, every group. They all vote on their President/Prime Minister/Consul/Chief that could come from any group. It would make sense for TWP #1 to be named The Last King of Faerie because there would be no more kings or queens, just an elected official from one of the groups.
I also personally believe that either all the Princes of Hell will someone die or be banished eternally by the end of TWP, unable to escape their imprisonment ever. All demons would be banished as well. This would also explain TWP #2's title because there would literally be no more Princes of Hell. As for TWP #3, I believe that similar to the predicament with Faeries, Shadowhunters won't really be Shadowhunters anymore. They'll still have all their abilities but they will no longer need to fight demons so that part of their lives will be gone. They will just be another member of this new, united group Downworlders and Shadowhunters. To fill the loss of not fighting demons anymore, I believe that they will be wholeheartedly devoted to building this new society that they have with the different Downworlder groups.
This also honestly seems to fit with the main characters of TWP. Kit is the heir to both the Seelie and Unseelie Courts. I truly cannot see him desiring to rule at all and would be extremely favorable of a new united society. He also strikes me as someone who absolutely would not stand to see others mistreated. I think he would be disgusted by how people like the Cohort treat Downworlders and how some Downworlders treat Shadowhunters. I think he would see this new unification as something that could end all of that hate. As for Kieran, we already know that he is not the King of the Unseelie Court because he wants to be, it's just his duty. I think he would also be favorable of this new government if he knew his people would be treated well and could prosper under it. Ash Morgenstern is a bit of a wild card, but I think by the end he will also be accepting of it.
I don't know, this is just what my mind is picturing because I honestly don't want to think about the alternatives (like Shadowhunters turning completely into mundanes or Kings like Kieran dying). It also just seems to fit with how things have gone in past books, like with the Council in the Clave that has Downworlders on it, the Shadowhunter-Downworlder Alliance that Alec built, etc.
What are your takes on this?

part 25 of season 3, episode 2 “the powers that be” continued
270. please let this be the last cringe clace scene of this episode I can only take so much

271. I don’t think clary or jace even know or understand what love is. I think they’re both too set in their own conceited ways to think about anything else. let these self absorbed people be together but force them out so we can focus on the better aspects of the show. I would have wanted them to end up with other people because I truly think they make the other person 10000x worse
272. jace: I don’t want to ruin this but also jace: you can’t tell anyone I died and also I’m super vulnerable to possession and I’m the one doing these attacks so I’ll make sure that Alec has to save my ass again and Magnus will have to sacrifice fucking again and then when I finally lose the only thing I care about which is clary I will try to go and get myself killed. that’s so much easier than taking accountability and trying to be a better person
273. yeah because any girl would run the fuck away from jace if they saw how toxic he really is lmao
274. RAJ SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!! probably the only time (it’s rare) where I approve of jaces behavior

275. buckle up bitches because this’ll be a ride. how stupid do you have to be to basically say warlocks should go fuck themselves IN FRONT OF ALEXANDER LIGHTWOOD??????? LOOK AT THAT GUY NEXT TO RAJ THINKING OH FUCK HE DID NOT LMAO

276. Alec: I beg your fucking pardon?

277. Raj had no issue taking orders from aldertree and I bet he would’ve chipped downworlders if imogen asked him to, but holy fuck, if downworlders have to be saved then it’s a big fucking problem????? but how stupid do you have to be to say this in front of Alec? it sometimes feels to me that these bigoted shadowhunters don’t see Alec as their leader
288. PUT SOME FUCKING RESPECT ON ALECS NAME HE IS IN CHARGE

289. I love how everyone shuts the fuck up once Alec speaks. you may not like Alec or what he stands for but he is in charge. they seriously just needed to do a bunch of background checks on all shadowhunters, and those who felt the power of the circle or whatever, should have been sent to idris. and I love how Alec does punish raj because he did go over Alec’s head. he would never have done that to aldertree or imogen. people like raj don’t respect Alec

290. see, this is a problem with most shadowhunters. they’re all good with doing their duty as long as it means downworlder lives don’t have to be saved or they don’t have to be near them. Raj is perfectly happy to push all downworlders out of their homes. yes, this plan is risky but people shouldn’t be kicked out of their homes. some shadowhunters really need a piece of the other side because a lot of them think they’re some untouchable gods who are superior. y’all treat downworlders like shit and expect them to save your ass????
(I swear if I was a warlock and one of these prejudiced shadowhunters needed my help, I’d go tell them to fuck right off. actually I’m too sweet so I would help probably but then I’d tell them to go fuck right off lmao)
291. Magnus: I’m Magnus Bane, enough said

292. Alec in his mind: I’m kicking this bitch out the first second I get

293. more on this group, we needed more

294. Raj is getting punished just alone for that comment but overstepping Alec? OFF TO WRANGEL ISLAND BITCH BYE
I seriously do not believe he would ever act that way around any other leader besides Alec. and the way he acts, it makes me know 100% fhat raj does not see Alec as a leader or respect Alec as a leader either
resuming 295 for the next one
#anti cassandra clare#anti cc#just my stupid opinions#alec lightwood#magnus bane#shadowhunters tv#show alec is superior#show magnus is superior#show malec is superior#shadowhunter show is superior#putting anti cc on all my posts because i don’t need book fans coming to hate thanks#marking this as 3x02#anti raj because I hate those bitch with every fiber of my core#like this dumbass has the audacity to say that to Alec??????#I forget what cringe clace scene this is but they’re all cringe ew#anti clace

3, 6, 13, 15 for all the gnoooooomes!!
yaaaaaaaay :D
3. What was the first thing you decided on, the character's name, appearance, personality or their role in the story?
Actually for all my full PC gnomes, it's hard to separate 'role' from 'personality'-- they both kind of came up together for all three of them!
Idri was built around the concept of 'what would sleight of hand be like in a world with real magic', so 'this person would be a rogue' and 'this person would have this kind of personality' went hand in hand in answering that-- she learned all her rogue skills as a magician in a circus, so she's the kind of person who does flashy fake magic in circuses, etc, haha. ALTHOUGH, as for narrative role in a dnd campaign, I had envisioned her as the kind of person who THINKS she's the leader and the main character but is actually a little too young/ inexperienced/ too much of a goofball to REALLY be the leader of anything, but then everyone else built, like, reserved absolute fishes-out-of-water and she ended up being the de facto party leader for real lmao
Melliwyk's always been intended to be That Kooky Mad Scientist Side Character, which is kind of inherently broad-strokes a personality and a role in the story at the same time, lol. The premise of her campaign included lost arcane knowledge and technology, so I wanted specifically a wizard Kooky Mad Scientist Character to engage with that, so mechanical role in the campaign/ character class in DnD was pretty inbuilt there, as well.
For Felix, the role I wanted him to play is intrinsic to the personality I wanted him to have; since his original campaign was a reboot in a setting I'd been in before, I already knew I wanted my new character to be the kind of person who's really curious about everything and will proactively get himself involved in Mysteries and Conspiracies and Cult Bullshit and Spy Nonsense, because there was a lot of that in this campaign's original run and my OG PC didn't give a shit about any of it and it was super frustrating for me to play, lmao. I mean, I guess there are a lot of ways to build The Snoop personality wise, but 'wants to find stuff out' is ultimately the core of both what he does in the story and who he is as a person
Indigo's the only combo breaker! I designed them around 'star druid ship's navigator would be pretty cool' and went from there, lmao. Unusually for me, I think I even did a lot of their aesthetic design before even approaching settling on what I thought their personality might be like-- they're one of my topmost Rule Of Cool led blorbos tbh. Like okay here's my pirate with starry hair and freckles and a glowing golden eyeball and a magical girl transformation that gives them a gun that shoots comets, and NOW we can figure out what kind of person fits inside this sick empty vessel we've constructed, haha.
This got really long! the rest under the cut!
6. What was the thought process behind their appearance? Did you go mostly for the aesthetic or are there other reasons they look the way they do?
For all of them, I start first and foremost with gnomes' general appearance as presented in 5e: they typically have brown skin, light hair, brightly colored eyes, and big noses, so I keep all those things in mind when I'm designing them. 'Not just making the same guy again' has also been a baseline consideration for every gnome after Idri, although I guess 'avoiding sameface' maybe goes without saying, lol.
Idri's a rogue, but she's also bright, cheerful, and flashy; her armor is black, but she otherwise favors bright jewel tones and gold. She's theatrical but she's also extremely active and mobile, so her everyday wear is stylish but comfortable and uncomplicated. Her leather armor is styled like a tailcoat as a nod to her history as a magician. Physically her small trim stature and pixie cut are meant to evoke a kind of peter pan energy and playfulness-- she should look, essentially, like a sprite who sneaks into your house to tie your shoelaces together. Also it's worth noting that I gave her little cartoon squirrel buckteeth for ??? reasons, probably just because it looked cute, but then one(1) other friend also coincidentally gave their gnome bucky teeth and now They All Have Big Incisors as a matter of personal worldbuilding lmao, so, thanks Idri!
A lot of Melliwyk's design was centered around the trinket I rolled for her-- a nightcap which gives the wearer pleasant dreams. I already knew she had an affliction that makes her fall asleep suddenly and completely at random, so I decided she's also chronically plagued with nightmares so she wears this nightcap literally all the time. I thought it would be funny for it to be oversized for her, and for her to tell people that it's a normal gnomish hood because the truth is a little embarrassing, so she builds all her outfits around it. So her hairstyle is designed not to be at odds with a 24/7 hood, and I tried a few color palettes for the hood based on what colors I thought would make sense for a night cap and then built the rest of her palette around that, haha. As for the rest of her wardrobe, her style is very pragmatic-- I still want her look to say 'wizard', but always with wearability and practicality in mind. She does a lot of tinkering and inventing, so her sleeves are cropped and her outer robes typically lack hanging or bell sleeves, to keep her hands free and unimpeded. Likewise her robes are constructed to allow free leg range of motion because she does a lot of field work/ adventuring and spends a lot of time running around. Her knickerbockers evoked old timey pith-helmet-type explorers to me (and, again, loose around the knees for range of motion), but also I just think they're cute 😌 She's got a little bit of a mom figure and a soft tummy because she's not (until recently) particularly active but she also never remembers or bothers to eat :I
The first sketch I ever did for 'gnome inquisitive rogue?' was inspired heavily by Snufkin Moomins, and not a LOT of that has remained but a lot of the [gesturing vaguely] vibe for his look started there, haha. Physically, I wanted him to be pointy and a bit foxy to get that 'sneaky little guy who sticks his nose in things' vibe across, and he dresses in a sort of shabby oversized coat mostly to look unassuming and to hopefully escape most people's notice. Really a lot of the rest is pure aesthetic! Fingerless gloves feel roguey to me, and the scarf just Felt Correct for him? And his dangle earrings were literally 'I keep giving all my gnomes plain hoop earrings I have GOT to do different ones this time' dfkjghdf. But in general most of his design at least keeps practicality in mind-- it's understated, not likely to attract attention or be memorable, and either easy to move in (including running, climbing, jumping over things, sliding down things, and squeezing through tight spaces) or-- like the coat-- easy to quickly discard. He's wiry because he's essentially always underfed :'D
Indigo is aaaaall aesthetic, babeyyyy!! They dress like a pirate because they're a pirate! They have big gold hoop earrings because they're a pirate!! They have white hair and freckles and deep deep blue eyes because they're a circle of stars druid and also because those look great against their dark skin! Their star map is their false eye, which is a solid gold sphere, because it's inspired by the map in treasure planet (because it's fuckin cool) and because making it also be their eyeball is fuckin cool! Their archer form gives them a gun made of starlight because that whips ass! I USUALLY build PCs from a much more grounded space so I had a lot of fun designing Indigo, lmao
13. Do you have a voice claim for the character? What do you imagine the character sounds like?
God I wish I could think of A Character who sounded like Idri so I could go 'kind of like this', lmao. She was my second dnd character ever, so her voice is just Me Doing A Gnome Voice, which, first of all, set an annoying precedent when I ended up playing a bunch more gnomes and then had to invent different gnome voices so they didn't all sound like Idri :'D She.... okay, bear with me. She doesn't sound like Tom Kenny. But the thing Tom Kenny is doing with his voice when he's voicing spongebob kind of sounds like the same thing I'm doing with my voice when I'm voicing Idri. Like, it's coming from the same part of the throat? Like you know that clip where he's talking about how the spongebob voice came from his overhearing a dwarf actor complaining about the christmas elf gig? If I quoted that bit with my vocal cords it'd probably sound like Idri, uh, if that makes any sense. God I should just bite the bullet and do voice clips for some of these guys dfgjhdfkj
Melliwyk had to have A Gnome Voice to follow the precedent I accidentally set for myself, but she couldn't have the SAME gnome voice, so I based her sound on Gilda Radner as Emily Litella-- although her cadence and manner of speech have since developed into distinctly their own thing
Felix has yet a third gnome voice lol, a bit lower and softer than the girls. He generally speaks softly, and kind of alternates between pausing and then saying things all in a rush. Honestly I've still kind of struggled to nail down his voice and manner of speech, I WISH I could pin down a good voice claim to at least give me a solid starting point like I did for Mel :'D
INDIGO, HONESTLY, I've played once and my voice for him at the time was all over the damn place, I'm still not entirely sure what I actually want him to sound like aaahah ^^;;
15. Have you ever made a moodboard for them?
Kiiiind of ? I don't really do moodboards as such, but a lot of the stuff I put in their Insp tags are things that could go onto a moodboard, and their purerefs have a lot of visual references for stuff like 'outfits that make me think of them' or 'gear that feels like their vibe' without being strictly literal image references, so there's a bit of defacto moodboarding going on in their reference files, lol. HONESTLY maybe I should, I always keep OC stuff so scattered hither and yon it'd probably be helpful to be able to Look At A Collage and get a more holistic sense of a guy in one go :Ia
ask about my OCs! :D
#ragsy#GOOD QUESTIONS THANK YOU!!!#I really should do some voice clips of my guys at some point. what would be the best way to approach that I wonder#ask thing#my OCs#idri#melliwyk#felix#indigo#look at my gnomes boy

This one’s for you Kat <3 @tessherongraystairs
Title from loml by Taylor Swift

And I’ll Still See It Until I Die (You’re the Loss of My Life)
1939
During her Ascension, Sophie Lightwood (who had been known by Sophie Collins at the time, then briefly Sophie Ashdown) had been told she would have to forfeit everything from her mundane life.
Her parents and siblings were easy enough, she hadn’t seen them since they’d dumped her with a wealthy London family. So had many other things. Adjusting to the life of a nephilim had been easy enough and she’d had Gideon by her side throughout the whole of it, what more could she have wanted?
Funerals, memorials, flowers, memories, tears. Mundane emotions. Mundane things. Things she couldn’t have thought she wanted at twenty-one, but now at eighty years old, she yearned for them.
She had yearned for them many times. More times than she had ever thought.
She had yearned for them when she was twenty-five and lost her third baby, her Sophia. Gideon had named her and Sophie had loved her before she was taken before her first breath. There had been no funeral.
She had yearned for them at thirty when she learned her mother had died and she couldn’t go to the funeral. Not even with a glamour. She didn’t allow herself to cry; she was a shadowhunter, and shadowhunters didn’t cry.
She had yearned for them at forty-five, when her Barbara died so suddenly. The funeral had been brisk and so public, filled to the brim with other grieving families, there was no space for tears, no grave to remember her by.
It was early the next year, in 1904, when Sophie yearned for them again with the death of her nephew, if not for herself, but for Gabriel and Cecily. Another crowded funeral, no flowers, no memorial, no grave. Too many tears.
She had yearned for them last year at seventy-nine when Charlotte had died. Her oldest friend, her mentor. The grief had been nearly indescribable, though it had been something she’d felt too many times before. With Thomas and Jem, Henry and Will. Sophie had lost friends before, but none had hurt as much as Charlotte’s.
She had yearned for them again at fifty-seven when her sweet boy, her baby boy, Thomas had died. Again, it had been so sudden, she hadn’t been prepared. He wasn’t even thirty. No one was the same after Thomas. Gideon was changed, the grief of losing two children had changed him. It had changed her too.
She had yearned for the last time, seven years ago, when Eugenia had passed. This time, it hadn’t been sudden, though Sophie didn’t know if that was a blessing or a curse. An illness had slowly taken her daughter from her and by the time she had passed, Sophie had felt she’d been grieving for a century.
And maybe she had.
There had only been one time, when she knew she would yearn. It had been twenty years now, since she’d lost her Gideon. Neither of them had been the same since Barbara and Thomas. Gideon had taken every loss to heart, he had his whole life. From his mother to his father to his daughter to his son, Gideon had felt them all. Every day the weight had gotten heavier until he finally cracked, a broken heart he died from, she would swear for the rest of her life.
Some days, Sophie was glad Gideon hadn’t been alive when she lost Eugenia, no matter how lonely she’d been, surrounded by her grief and wishing he was there to hold her; she knew his heart couldn’t have taken anymore. Her big-hearted man, who wore it on his sleeve (even if he claimed not to know where their Thomas had gotten it from). The love of her life had become the loss of her life.
Now Sophie was left yearning in the flower garden she had planted at the Lightwood house in Idris. She’d left London after Thomas, she couldn’t lose another child in London, that’s what she had told Gideon, who had agreed without a second thought.
There weren’t too many Lightwoods now, only Sophie, Gabriel, Cecily, and their son Alexander, but he was a man grown now with a wife and a son called Isidore.
She planted a new plant for every big loss. Each had its own meaning, the language of the flowers was something taught to her by Alastair Carstairs before he died nearly ten years ago. Poor Alastair Carstairs who was never the same without Thomas.
White roses for Sophia. Marigolds for Barbara. Meadow lychnis for Eugenia. Red catchfly for Thomas. Wild plum for Charlotte. And stock for Gideon.
It had taken her nearly twenty years to complete her garden, it had become her pride and joy, her heart, her garden was everything to her.
Shadowhunters didn’t have graves, didn’t have memorials or tears or flowers or memories. But in her garden, she had all of those things. In her garden, Sophie could just take a deep breath and inhale all of the perfumes from the flowers around her and for just a moment, she would forget.
She would forget the pain and the grief and the fact that her children didn’t have graves or her husband a memorial. She would close her eyes and imagine opening them to Gideon and Barbara and Thomas and Eugenia playing tag or marbles or whatever all around her.
Other times she’s as young as Tessa looks again, falling in love with Gideon and his scone-hiding for the first time.
But then something would break the illusion, a twig snapping, the wind blowing. And then it would hurt all over again.
It was a game she’d played too many times, playing round, after round, after round and never winning. She didn’t think she ever would.
Sophie-Collins, Ashdown, Lightwood-had known grief in her eighty years of life, had worn it like a favorite gown. Everyone had always told her shadowhunters died young, they lived fast and died young, burning bright until they were snuffed out.
Sudden, quick, quiet, forgettable.
Yet, Sophie Lightwood was still standing here in her garden in Idris and planting her bluebells, the first flowers in the garden that were just for her.
Her light, though it flickered, had yet to be snuffed out.

This is about to get really emotional so if that makes you uncomfortable, please feel free to just ignore this:
This is the first fic I’ve written since before my grandfather died almost a year ago. As many of you may know, his death was the catalyst for me taking a break from writing. The suddenness of it and the shocking depth of my grief just hit me like a ton of bricks, I couldn’t fathom writing about anything. I struggled through a school year of essays and writing assignments but still couldn’t find the energy to write something for me until now.
It felt fitting to write a fic about grief, specifically the grief of losing many people at once when you feel like you can’t grieve properly (a feeling I know very well). And I hope you all enjoyed it, even if I’m a little rusty.
And so, I want to take a moment to thank everyone that’s been there for me in the past nine months since I lost my grandfather. I don’t think I would’ve survived the year without any of you.
Thank You,
Riley
