i feel like it's worth remembering that the most vulnerable people aren't just being "inconvenienced" by strikes. the only reason strikes work is because they grind an industry to a halt, and that genuinely can result in very dangerous situations for some people. the bystanders probably arent a huge issue with like the writers strike, but without say, UPS, a lot of people will not get medicine, food, and other essentials in time. and of course the workers themselves are sacrificing potentially everything to hold the line.
TO BE CLEAR, this is not the fault of the striking workers. the corporations could end this at any moment by choosing to be slightly less evil, and workers should not have to choose between endangering themselves constantly or endangering random strangers sometimes. but i feel like i see a lot of very flippant posts coming from a place of privilege where they're like "lol yeah i would love to be slightly inconvenienced all the time so people can be paid more, dont be a baby" as if strikes are a simple and easy solution, and not something people very bravely do, if not as a last resort, at least after exhausting the less dangerous options. fighting for our rights is not painless.
#just in general i see a lot of people like 'we should do away with [x thing disabled people rely on] to make things better for workers :)'#and its just so completely misguided#the solution is not to do away with these services it is to better compensate the workers#and hire more workers so no one is being overworked#and make sure they are safe with stuff like aircon#people really think if they dont use a service much it must not be important

ok might be my third world privilege but if i had the option to vote for someone who I agreed with 30-40% of their policies i won't be excited or pleased abt it but I'd be in that polling booth doing my part idk
#the only thing i think abt in all this v annoying uselection brouhaha is damn... imagine if we had those kinds choices in nigeria/africa 😭#our only choices are usually guy who wants to steal as much money as he can or guy who wants to killl everyone and they'll both have#maga-type fanbases who are basically thugs for hire known to steal&rig the elections by threatening abusing and even killing ppl. fun!#oh and these politicians who are responsible for literally pillaging your country are welcomed with open arms by the same citizens who are#suffering just as much as you are and when you ask then how or why it boils down to this: they share the same state/tribe/ethnic group#like thats all it takes....#the very nature of nigerian culture worships bad politicians and bad ppl in power in general as long as they have money#this is not unique to us no because this is what humans have been trained to believe/do in this capitalist hell but it is breathtaking to#see people contort whatever values or morals they have just to find a way to justify their acceptance & endorsement of their own suffering#there is no solution. apathy is understandable i get it but what does that mean for us? for the children who will grow up in this world?#idk. we're this close to military rule again and i just cant do it yall

the day I manage to articulate my thoughts on lupin's cigarette / lighter symbolism is the day I finally reach my true potential as a lupiii writer
#▸ out of character#lupzero ep 4..... jigen's lighter finally working only when he's back with lupin and following along in his plans ??? ouuugghhh I'm normal#the act of service of lighting someone's cigarette before your own. the way they both do it for each other; rejecting jigen's usual dynamic#-of boss and hired gun. he's on equal footing w/ lupin; they're friends and partners in crime and trust each other wholly#just as lupin frequently puts his life in jigen's hands; always trusting him to watch his back; jigen trusts lupin to be the mastermind#despite jigen being the more rational; grounded one; he's been around long enough to know that lupin's unhinged genius just WORKS#he trusts lupin to find a way to get them out of trouble; even if the solution is ridiculous and sounds impossible. he trusts it'll work

34 and whatever pairing u want if u are still taking prompts :D
hi anon! thanks for the ask <3 #34: things you whispered in my ear (from this list) a bit of catws redux peggynat on this sunday night!
Peggy had learned to be a bit of an optimist during the war.
It was more out of necessity than anything, really, a way to keep her head afloat and her mind from straying into too many of the overly realistic negatives it tended to latch onto, but it was also partially a natural consequence of both knowing and loving Steve Rogers and his unflappable ability to keep going through anything at all.
Until he couldn't anyway.
That had, admittedly, put a bit of a damper on her optimism.
She finds it flagging even more now as she puts on her best fake smile and nods at the rather intrusive genius bar employee who got a little overly enthusiastic when Natasha had told him they were researching destinations for their honeymoon.
"OMG!" he'd said, as if that was any shorter than just saying the full phrase, clapping his hands together with a oddly heightened nervousness Peggy's not quite sure what to do with. "How long have you been together? Are you wearing a dress? Is she wearing a dress? Are you both wearing dresses? I'm totally an ally!"
She finds herself wishing he was less of an enthusiastic one, oddly enough. "We haven't quite sorted out the details, given we are still researching here, but your support is appreciated--" she squints down at his name tag, "--Adam."
Adam smiles with all his teeth and, despite the fact that she'd become a literal fugitive and had watched a quasi-friend, quasi-coworker die in the last twenty-four hours, she thinks it might be the most off-putting thing she's seen today. "Of course! Well, I'll, uh, let you two get back to it. Let me know if you need anything else! Love is love!"
Peggy smiles again and hopes it manages to reach her eyes before turning back to Natasha. "Do you have everything we need, darling?"
Natasha grins and grabs her hand, pulling her out of the Apple Store and into the main section of the mall. People are milling about in every direction; Peggy hopes they provide more cover than the glasses and cap that Natasha had given her earlier, but she thinks there's only so much that can truly distract from a 6'2" woman roaming around a random shopping mall.
She spots the first agent at the same time Natasha does if her tighter grip on Peggy's hand means anything.
She lets herself be dragged towards the escalator, keeping her head down and her posture more slouched than she's ever allowed. Natasha stops on the step just above her, putting them slightly closer to equal stature, and leans in as close as she can, exaggeratedly turning her gaze to the SHIELD agent on the opposite escalator before darting back to Peggy, all without moving the rest of her face.
"You should kiss me," Natasha whispers in her ear, and it runs a chill up her spine.
Logically, she knows it's a distraction tactic. She'd used it herself on occasion, when she was out in the field as a spy before she'd taken the serum.
Logic doesn't seem to make her heart beat any slower, nevertheless.
She bends down to kiss her despite hearing her own heart in her ears. She tastes like the cherry chapstick Peggy's found that Natasha tends to favor, and a few seconds' worth of a kiss is enough to make Peggy think she might favor it, too.
"First kiss since 1945?" Natasha asks as she pulls her towards the exit at the bottom of the escalator, hand still in hers despite the fact the ruse is unnecessary now.
Peggy raises her eyebrows as she hops in the seat of the car they'd "borrowed." "I'd wager that means I'm in need of a bit of practice?"
Natasha waggles her eyebrows. "Practice makes perfect, Peg."
Peggy laughs, but it comes out as little more than an exaggerated puff of air out of her nose. "Jersey first, Widow. Then perhaps practice. I've always liked to save the sweeter things for last."
Natasha just grins.
#lmao sorry anon bet you weren't expecting peggynat when you said any ship#but i've been thinking about the mall scene with catws ever since what if...? dropped#and this was a perfect opportunity#is peggy still in love with steve here? absolutely. and this could fuck up the peggynat HOWEVER#i personally think steggynat is the perfect solution#anyways @the what if writers hire me for steggynat purposes and steggynat purposes alone#peggynat#peggy carter#natasha romanoff#marvel#what if...?#mak writes#ask#anonymous#peggy carter x natasha romanoff#captain carter#black widow#natasha romanoff x peggy carter#peggynat fic#peggynat fanfic#peggynat fanfiction

There is a difference between a hypothetical worldview and the way that worldview actually applies to your real world. It's easy to come up with theories because you don't necessarily need to test them on your community (and, to be fair, some theories would be impossible to test in the world we live in currently).
That is why it's important to interact with your community directly in any way you can. That's why local politics are important. That's why school board meetings can be so important, that's why supporting local businesses can also be so important, and rallying with your community members can be so important.
Theories are the simple part. We can all think of scenarios and come up with solutions. But humans are messier than the simple solutions we tend to come up with, and that's not a flaw. That is a feature. Embrace this, and do what you can not only for yourself but for your community, too.
#politics#and yes i too post a lot of theory and it IS fun to think things through#but much like 'oh if a construction company doesn't follow protocol then people just won't hire them!' - that can fail to be realistic#because it is based on the simplistic logic of 'if bad then don't. if bad then fail'#and it doesn't take into account that (in this example) that could take YEARS or DECADES to experience the full consequences of...#...not having the correct safety protocol#i'm not saying that theory is inherently bad but theory ALONE is not the solution for so many issues#when you find ways to partake in the world THAT is when theory becomes helpful i think...#...because then you have more experience with the complexities of what you are making theory of#there are many reasons one cannot partake in community and this isn't meant to shame people#find ways that work for you

I feel like.... If you have a scheduling app for your business.... It would be very easy to make a "look for shift cover" button that would put the shift requesting cover on the calendar.... And then all employees with the app could see it, and those who are for example looking for more hours..... might click it without you having to personally ask around the store to see who is available what hours and isn't busy that day
I just think this might be a quality of life improvement I encourage all companies to look into
#i just think it seems like an obvious solution i have not fucking ever been hired at a place to use#beatext

also i think i am having a bad allergic reaction to the mold in my office. there’s mold in my office btw
#their solution was to clean the carpets and talking about hiring pros to come in and clean the walls#then sending out an email about how taking everything off the walls would too hard.#but there’s lysol wipes in the hall if you’d like to clean them yourself#anyways i started getting a really bad cough and a little congestion last week.#also had a covid exposure at the office so i was freaking + testing like crazy bc i was getting respiratory symptoms + mildly elevated temp#all negative‚ requested an extra remote day just to be safe. cough went away and i felt much better after a few days. figured it was a cold.#worked my first full day in the office again today and the cough is mysteriously back and worse.#now i’m no doctor house but —#ig my next move is getting tested for mold allergy?#and if i have to submit an ada request to have Working In A Place With No Mold be granted as a reasonable accommodation.#that will legitimately be the funniest thing ive ever done.#there is everyone’s too much personal detail liz update of the day We Live in A Society

The amount of critical corporate processes that are entirely reliant on Excel For Some Reason is truly depressing I'll tell you what
#''''critical'''' as though my job actually matters to anything#anyway our entire deparment inventory is run off an Excel spreadsheet/VBA script. 700 reports. Excel.#I hate it here 🙃#there is literally not a worse way we could be doing this#like at some point#making us hobble along with these cludgy solutions is MORE EXPENSIVE than just hiring another IT person for $90k to do it properly#anyway this post brought to you by it's my turn to wake up at 5am to babysit a VBA script because THAT'S a valuable use of my time

Finally back in the lab and I’m so mad at myself for not getting my pipette tip organizer done already. It’s so tedious :(
I was gone for a little more than a week so there’s just piles of BOXES needing TIPS and AUTOCLAVING
#important but awful work#lab#woes#despair#agony#there’s so fucking many#research#is 99% just#tedious work that could be faster if someone just used a 3D printer#like I walked into the lab and the first thing I started doing was optimizing (which is partly why I was hired as an assistant anyways)#I don’t make these solutions because I’m smart or because of a good heart#it’s because I’m lazy and don’t want to do them#I would rather spend more time writing a program than doing a boring thing#kill me

OK I've finished watching Loki s2. I liked it, I think they really did a great job with the loom being a metaphore for the system. I was scared of where they were going with it but Loki going through all of the possible ways to safe the system to finally understand that the system was inherently a tool of destruction that should not be saved, was very well written. I have nothing to say about this, his arc is exactly what I wanted it to be and it was executed very well.
Now to the negative, because yeah, I have things I'm not very happy with. And of those things can be resumed to: the women's arcs have been absolutely glossed over. And I'm really disappointed.
First let's go with Sylvie: she was here more to be a symbole then to be her own character, she did not evolved in any way shape or form. To put it blankly, she did not have an arc this season. While she was also used as a reflection for Loki's inner conflicts in s1, she still had her own motivations and her own story. It wasn't the case this season, she was only here to be the anti-system symbole. And yes just a symbole of it because she did nothing this season except for being Loki's moral compass. I wanted more for her, she is an amazing character and I wanted her to build herself a life.
B15 now, to be honest it's not much different than for Sylvie. She did not have her own arc, she was here as a narrative device for Mobius' arc and that's pretty much it. She did not even learned her own name, she is still b15, like come on, Mobius got his life back.
Its more complicated for Renslayer. Because I feel like her story got cut because of irl stuff which impacted the whole MCU story line and she was caught into that mess. Since her character is connected to HWR, the fact that the MCU is going into an other direction mean that her story is falling short. But this take us back to the main issue of the women arcs being tight to the Men's ones.
To conclude, I really liked how Loki was both the hero and the villain of this season, his internal conflict having the power to either save everything or to destroy everything was an arc he needed to go through. I just wished the women of the show had individual stories that did not revolve around men.
