The Sakura/Hinata Hypocrisy

So, this post was inspired by a brief conversation on discord. And before anyone tries to pull the anti card, no. Just because I love Sakura does not mean I hate Hinata. I like Hinata. I think she’s a sweet character who had a lot of potential. And I really with the SakuHina friendship was explored more, their very cute.

But anyway, onto the post!

So, I have honestly thought about making a post about this for a long time, but was nervous to. Cause well… look at the Sakura/Hinata stans. Those guys will go for the throat for their girls.

But can you all just acknowledge the hypocrisy in this fandom?

Sakura tries, she fails: “what a useless bitch!”

Hinata tries, she fails: “She did her best! What a queen!”

Are you guys hearing yourselves? Do you not hear the utter hypocrisy of what you just said?

And it can be the other way around, don’t get me wrong. It’s just that I’ve mostly seen it go down this way.

SP’s favouritism for Hinata really didn’t help either. I know a lot of Hinata fans call her fight with Pain her best moment, but canonly, this happened.

Her fight was all but one page.

Just about one page less then when Sakura jumped in front of Sasuke to protect him from Gaara.

But despite the fact that these two situations were basically similar, Sakura is hated on while Hinata is endlessly praised.

Can we all just accept the fact that these girls were done dirty by the story?

Sakura’s development wasn’t as drastic as Naruto and Sasuke’s, but it was there. But that all gets thrown away for her love interest.

Hinata’s development and arc in part 1 was very interesting and I was excited to see her grow. But again. That all got thrown away for her love interest.

Because apparently women can’t have any goals outside of men, and if they dare move on from a gut they liked, that makes them a “bad person.”

And whenever they do get big moments, it’s quickly thrown away, for what? The men. And you know what part gets me the most? If Sakura and Hinata were written as men, they’d be better developed, better written, and everyone would love them.

I love Naruto, but I unfortunately can’t read the story with rose tinted glasses like I did when I was younger. The women in this series deserved way better than what they got.

Anyone, Sakura and Hinata’s friendship is adorable. I wish people would stop putting them against each other. Look how cute they are!

Hello there! I just recently came across your blog, and really love your Naruto art! Especially your Sakura content. You give her the justice that she should have gotten in the canon material. Short haired Saku for the win!

However, I’m curious. What are your feelings on Hinata? I like her, but also find that I unfortunately have some bitterness towards her. Not because of the character herself (though she has her issues, and I fully believe she deserved better too), but because of her fandom and how the fanbase holds her to such high regard. She suffers from the same problems as Sakura, dare I say even worse, but people will find any excuse in the point to justify her actions and lift her up. Though I will say that most of the blame lies with SP and their very creepy fetishization of her- who mind you, was a minor for most of the series. It’s like if you even have the slightest criticism of her, your attack for it. But I don’t know. I hope you have a good day!

Hinata? Yeah I have quite a few feelings about her. Namely the feeling of "I like you and I wish you got more"

Hinata is depressingly the only girl from the Konoha 11 to have been given a story and setting that wasn't about boys. Heiress to one of Konoha's major clans but was kicked out in favour of her younger sister? A clan that's fundamentally shitty and they went into depth showing how shitty it is to its own members? There's a LOT that could have been done here.

But unfortunately this was all forgotten about and replaced with her whole existence revolving around Naruto and it's a darn shame.

I don't feel bitterness towards her or anything, just sadness. Grieving what could have been.

I couldn't tell you for certain why Hinata was favoured over Sakura, despite the two being so similar. Hinata's design is very appealing to some, and people seem to be drawn to shy cute girls (I see you, Fluttershy stans). Why I don't know. But it is frustrating as a Sakura stan to see your fav being criticized while Hinata gets praised for the same thing.

Naruto, the series, was just uninterested in them as characters. Naruto is a fantasy, a character for young teenage boys to project themselves on to. Hinata was made to be appealing to the teenage boy demographic. A pretty shy girl who's completely and utterly devoted to you is pure ambrosia. Sakura wasn't made to fit into that fantasy. She's much more like a real woman in that regard, at least to those who project themselves on to Naruto. And a real woman can't be the perfect little wife in your perfect little fantasy world. That's my personal theory anyway.

All that being said, I do genuinely like Hinata. I think she's wasted and done dirty, but even I have fallen for her core appeal. How much I like her makes me sad that she'll never be treated as a character, she will only ever be a reward.

Hi there! Hope you're doing well. <3 I was just looking through some art and was glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks Hinata got very Screwed at Naruto's end lol. ( To be fair, Most of the characters did, if I'm being honest; I believe that Kishimoto just wanted to Finish The Fucking Thing and gave up caring by the end, but I digress.)

Personally, I headcanon that Hanabi (along with Neji in some AUs lol) has a serious talk with Hiashi after the war, pointing out to him that the direction the world as a whole was going was a more peaceful state. While she feels fine being heavily trained in the Hyuga arts, her being more like a Warrior was not going to be the best to lead the Clan into this new era. The Hyuga need someone who can fight, for sure, but who also is more compassionate; she convinces her father to reinstate Hinata as Head of the Clan.

The whole ordeal of the Fourth Ninja War and Hanabi's (and Neji's) words have him agreeing and he goes to Hinata. Hiashi gives her a very sincere Apology (which Neji got, but somehow she fucking didn't, what the actual fuck??!) and gives her the choice to become the Hyuga Clan Leader.

Hinata thinks on it for a few days before agreeing, and slowly takes up the mantel from her father. He teaches her how to perform the Curse Mark Seal fairly early on, and Hinata takes his subtle hints and immediately goes to Sakura and Ino, also showing them and asking if the technique can be reversed. The two medically trained ninja work with Hinata for a while and are able to figure a new jutsu, Curse Release.

During Hinata's probably very formal and posh ceremony of officially being named Head of the Hyuga Clan (that none of the elders are happy about, obviously) Hinata demonstrates the Curse Release Jutsu on Neji (if he's alive) and denounces the Curse Mark, declaring it to never be used again. She clashes a lot with the surviving elders, except her father, whom she begins to have a more positive relationship with.

I also think that Shikamaru's choices for bodyguards for her, when she has to travel outside Konoha, not only include Shino, Kiba and Neji, but also Chouji. With his Expansion Techniques, he's best to be at Hinata's side while the others make patrols. This leads to Hinata and Chouji getting closer and becoming a couple. In my opinion, way cuter than her with Naruto, and I think they'd click better and be almost sickingly sweet on each other. Yes, please lol.

I remember reading sometime in the middle of Naruto's run that Kishimoto said that Hinata was more in love with Naruto's ideology than Naruto himself, and I wish he had stuck with that. I am so over the whole "girl stays in love with the boy she had a crush on as a child" trope.

I know it's a different culture over there, but it will always bother me lol.

OOOOH I LOVE THIS CONCEPT SO MUCH. The thought of them actually trying for a more peaceful method of living instead of continuing the same antics is such a nice touch. I feel like the Hyuuga clan deciding to take the step would probably make a lot of changes in the village since they're considered a powerhouse clan. ESPECIALLY if they suddenly stopped using the curse seal. Which would cause major conflict within the clan and I love layered drama huehue~

The thought of Hinata becoming more dimensional as a character and finding strength in herself where very few did is so good. Pursing what she feels is a better future so less have to go through the suffering she did because of the pressures of war. Basically, development of her character that isn't just "marry man, be wife and nothing else."

A deep dive into her struggles as a clan leader. Rekindling her relationships with her sister and cousin to try and start anew. How her father helps her navigate leadership and comes to realize that power is not everything as he watches her.

I also always headcanonned that Hinata was inspired by the fact that Naruto still pushed on despite the horrors. Especially since she herself was crumbling underneath them in her eyes. I felt like her love for him was more "I wish I had your fighting spirit," which made more since to me. Like I don't hate the idea of them together, however their relationship lacked so much depth that it felt empty.

ChojiHina is not something I've ever considered however I am a Hinata lover and the concept is actually really cute to me. Her and Choji bonding throughout their travels. Hinata being anxious yet puting on a brave face to not worry anyone. Choji takes notice and tries to help her relax so she won't be too stressed. It's simple gestures but they mean a lot to her and she's determined to repay such kindness which accidentally creates a spark between the two.

I say all this to say that you're crazy, and I love it~

inspired by a modern au mackenzie headcanon posts... i have fun facts! number 1! the haikyuu timeline and the smosh vs aliens timeline lines up just perfectly enough for my girl mackenzie to become pro and technically be an elder to them all if she lived and they were in the same universe. number 2! even if they weren't in the same universe, if mackenzie did become a pro, the haikyuu publishing timeline gives her enough time to find it during her slowing down/easing into retirement era and heavily reminscence and relate to it. (side note: mackenzie would totally project her relationship with mary onto either kagehina or ushiten)
