“❤: Which character do you think is the most egregiously mischaracterized by the fandom?”

I think overall the fandom does a pretty good job on characterization; it’s usually just things that are consistently slightly off.

However, weirdly, I gotta say people get Larry wrong a lot? Like, he’s a lot funnier than we give him credit far. And a lot snarkier, and a lot weirder.

He is absolutely Tired Dad Keeping Everyone Else AliveTM but he also is absolutely as chaotic as every one of the exhibits???

He has zero clue what he’s doing. No plan whatsoever, he just figures it out as he goes. His knee jerk reaction in conversation is fucking with the other person. His boss yells at him and he goes straight to “snarky as humanly possible” despite it being his first day. He is so peevish. He could not do long division to save his life. He’s probably the only one in the whole museum who’s monolingual. He is amazingly competent. He’s unhinged and we need to give him credit for that.

like about, a decade or so ago, I rediscovered "home movies" after having seen a few eps as way too young a kid and thinking it was funny even back then. I got really into it for a lil while and went through every episode. including this one:

ha yeah those guys were pretty fun. i'm sure they're not gonna be relevant to anything else later on

#what I wouldn't give for behind the scenes footage of when they're doing the crywalker sequence #it was the speech beast scene I first caught on cartoon network at maybe 9 or 10 years old and thought it was hilarious.#the perks of largely unsupervised access to television (and internet).#my parents only really had a rule about not watching anything inappropriate i.e. south park and they trusted me not to #and I did follow that. but it did mean I just stumbled into a lot of things I didn't realise were going to be innapropriate lol #home movies isn't even that bad really. pretty sure it was censored for the broadcast time here anyway

Very personal problem: increasingly out of patience with the audience being always so desperate to laugh! Laugh! Laugh!

#always but this year had two particularly bad stances #one when we were watching king lear and lear had gone mad and the actor did a brilliant job but the audience laaaaughed #as if it wasn't the most heartbreaking thing we were watching! felt bad for the actir my god. he was great. not his fault #second was today i was watching a screening of jekyll and hyde 1931 and the audience managed to find something hilarious in the moments #right before and right after hyde murdered the girl he had been raping and terrorizing for a month.#i get that some people don't like feeling discomfort or horror or disgust or heartbreak but when why go watch a tragedy or a horror movie???#it's borderline grotesque #like th refusal to engage emotionally with something disturbing...once again i ask why watch tragedy or horror then #inane post

After pondering on it for several days, I have officially decided I did not like the direction of KFP4 and have banished it from my brain. It is no longer canon. KFP4? What's that? Don't know what you're talking about.

#spoilers ahead #it wasn't all bad #I really truly loved the scenes with Li and Mr Ping they were wonderfully hilarious #and the music was great #BUT #I just did not like the direction they took Po's story at all.#and I'm kinda furious they subtly undermined Shifu's character #by making him “fine”/“not fine” with Oogway picking Po as his successor instead of him.#it was only a thing for 2 seconds for the sake of humor but it completely undermines his inner peace character development #first off why can there only be one successor #and second off why can't Po take primarily the fighting side and Shifu take the spiritual side #It FITS HIM #don't know if most people would notice that shifu's character was undermined but because he's one of my favorites I sure did and it HURT #also um the furious five WHY didn't we have them be the main characters with Po instead of the fox chick no one cares about #literally their interactions with Po that's WHY WE'RE HERE DREAMWORKS #also it's become really obvious to me that the fox girl was literally written just so they could cast a specific voice actress in a big rol #nothing against that actress I love her in other stuff but that was a bad move Dreamworks #and another thing #the movie's message about change not always being bad is perfectly fine and good in theory #but such character change is only satisfying from a storytelling perspective if the audience actually WANTS the character to change!!!#I don't WANT Po to stop being the dragon warrior! I don't WANT him to pick a successor! That wasn't satisfying!! like whyyyyyyyyy #Plus he's like way too young?? to be worrying about this??? Oogway didn't worry about it until he was literally 900 years old #Shifu is what in his 60s? 80s? and he hasn't picked one #why would they make shifu worry about po doing that any time soon literally at all #so there dreamworks #I banish this movie #I banish it for one thousand years #kfp4 #kung fu panda 4 #po kung fu panda

#movies film cinema #zero day #ben coccio #I actually talked to the director on Facebook super nice guy and he told #me a lot about the filmmaking process and even helped me with tips on directing non-actors and new actors #I remember him telling me to always be supportive and tell your new actors they're doing a good job even if they aren't in the first take #cause you can instill confidence and still reshape and change their choices and mistakes later #Sometimes I'd message him for advice when I was running into problems on some of my early projects #he told me once ''did ya choose to collaborate with this actor cause you were lonely or you guys had passion and chemistry''#“collaborating is like a relationship” and he was so right #there's nothing worse than working with people you disdain cause there's no communication and no trust.#he told me how he wrote the first couple of drafts of Place Beyond the Pines but his take on the 3rd act wasn't clicking for the director #so he took the script and went and had another writer rewrite the 3rd act but he liked the process cause he learned a lot and still got pai #but I'd still like to see Ben Coccio's take on Place Beyond The Pines he says the 1st and 2nd act are mostly unchanged #Ryan Gosling's scenes are still mostly the same he said but he couldn't tell me too much cause of the NDA he signed #The bloopers of Zero Day are hilarious his tip he gave me about being supportive #“This is actually great but can we-” and Cal interrupts him “He says that no matter what if you're doing good or bad!” and everyone lols #I hope I can make it and ask him to collab with me on a script #He's such a nice dude compared to the harrowing film he made.#I wish there was BTS but he had only one tape to film on and this was made when digital camcorders were infants #I think he had only one 2 hour tape that's how low budget #The bloopers is just Cal or Andre secretly filming and Ben getting annoyed “Is it recording?” and Cal going “Nah..."#Cal is such a funny guy IRL I wanna see him act more cause he's so good. He was so great at playing a sadistic psychopath in this.#the final shooting is so harrowing and disturbing #I told Ben he srsly gut punched me/disturbed me and this is what made him really open up.

You ever fall in love with a piece of media at its first installment, only to slowly watch everything you loved about it erode away as it keeps getting more sequels and spin offs?

#this is about borderlands #i loved the world building in the first one so much and for the most part enjoyed the second one even if the writing started to get worse...#and then the writing just keeps getting worse in those main games #hearing some hilarious reviews about how bad the movie is but i doubt they're going to take this as a sign #borderlands 4 will probably double down and self reference the movies terrible release #sigh
