Like Betta Fish Do - Part 12
Masterpost of ao3 link and all parts.
wc 2295 (Chapter 9 when on ao3)
“Hey, it’s Danny, right?” asked the person standing next to Danny’s seat. They shifted, tucking a long strand of pitch black hair behind their ear.
“Yes?”
“We thought—”
“She thought,” said the woman who practically barreled into the first speaker’s back. She hooked her chin over the other’s shoulder with a grin as she adjusted her hijab. “Cloe thought, but we all agree.”
“Which is why I said we, I’m Cloe, this is Fara, that guy over there is José.” She motioned to a young man with a head full of curly brown hair and an easy smile waiting by the door. “We need a fourth for the group project, want to join us?”
“Me?” Danny repeated in surprise. No one in Casper High ever wanted him on a team, not unless it was Tucker and Sam.
“Totally. Your comment today on the possible advancements of propulsion technology was just the sort of thing that we’d love to do our topic on. It didn’t look like you had a group?”
“No, I don’t, not yet. That would be nice,” Danny said with a crooked smile. He’d been worried about having to find a group to work with so the offer was a huge weight off. Honestly the presentation was way too much of their grade in his opinion (but maybe that’s just because he had been dreading it).
“That’s great!” Cloe smiled back at him. “Do you have time to meet now? Just, like, to a coffee shop or the library. We can hash out the basics and what everyone should research before we meet up again the next time.”
“Sure. I could almost always use a coffee,” Danny said as he shoved his aging laptop in his backpack.
“Yeah, we can kinda tell with the…” Fara pointed at her own face, finger circling around her eyes.
Danny barked out a surprised laugh when Cloe let out an affronted “Fara!”
“Hey, I’ve been cultivating these dark circles since high school. They’re like fine wine,” Danny said. Snarky he knew how to handle.
“Oh, José will like you,” Fara said with a laugh. She linked arms with Danny and practically dragged him towards the door. “José! I found you another coffee addict.”
“Thank you,” he praised, “because Cloe only drinks the most basic bitch drinks and Fara likes tea.”
“I make an exception for pumpkin spiced lattes and hot chocolate,” Fara said with coy smile.
“See? See what I have to put up with. Please, my dude— is it my dude?” Danny nodded in response. “My dude, please tell me you drink real coffee.”
“With as many espresso shots as they’re legally allowed to add,” Danny said.
“A man after my own heart— a heart that runs on coffee,” José said with a laugh as they all spilled out the front of the engineering building.
Maybe this presentation wouldn’t be so bad after all.
-
Okay, so maybe Danny was just really not used to being around people any more.
Really, really not used to it.
He’d only spent an hour or so with the other’s at the coffeeshop, but between that, class, picking up a treat for Jason, and just having to go back and forth throughout the city Danny felt his nerves crawling under his skin. Every noise from every apartment around was so loud. Even his fridge seemed to be screaming at him with its incessant whine.
And there was no where to get away from it.
If he went out, Danny would just be surrounded by the sounds and smells and lights of the city. People would jostle into him or sit too close on the bus and— Danny shuddered at the idea of being touched by strangers right then.
He rubbed his fingers against his palms as he shifted and tried to lay more comfortably on his small sofa. He had his t.v. on, streaming mindless video game play throughs, but he wasn’t really paying attention to it. It was just to try and block out some of the noise.
There were things about the city that he loved, sure. The access to food was great. There was an amazing variety in walking distance of his place or campus. He’d also found a few great stores— a game store and a second hand clothing shop were top of his list. It was great how there was always a distraction.
But there was always a distraction.
Nothing ever really stopped in the city. That constant hum, after a few weeks of it, was really getting to Danny. He hadn’t thought he was rural or anything, but Amity’s hundred thousand or so people never prepared him for living here.
He closed his eyes and made himself take a slow breath.
Jason was going to show him some places around the city today.
He had to get a handle on himself before then.
He’d been trying for an hour now— or so his phone alerted him to when he checked it for the hundredth time. He laid it back on his chest and closed his eyes. When it started ringing a moment later he nearly jumped out of his skin.
‘Jason Calling’, it read. He fumbled to swipe the screen. “Hi.”
“Hey. My meeting wrapped early so I was going to head your way now if that’s good?”
Danny swallowed, trying to force back the buzzing under his skin. “Oh, um, yeah, sure.”
The line was silent for a pause. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing.”
Jason snorted. “That’s a lie.”
Danny flung an arm over his eyes and forced himself to take another breath. “I guess, just… It’s stupid.”
“Fish.”
The endearment was more gentle than Danny felt he deserved. He was being stupid about this. Who struggled to be around people? And he wanted to see Jason too. It was just… everyone— everything else.
He could hear the sounds of the city on Jason’s end and tried to focus on his voice instead. “Come on fish, talk to me.”
“It’s just— being in the city all the time… it’s just getting to me a little, I guess. I’m not used it it. That’s all. I’ll be fine.”
Jason gave a considering hum. “Okay. Change of plans. Do you have a leather jacket?”
“What? No?”
“Okay. Are you up for one stop first? We’ll make it quick.”
“One stop before what?” Danny asked as he pulled himself up by the back of the couch.
“Before my new plan for the day.” Jason sounded smug.
“I don’t— we don’t have to—”
“Trust me, okay?”
It was such an earnest request that it brought Danny to pause. He swallowed once more before he found his voice. “Of course I will.”
“Good. Then I’ll see you in twenty. Go put on jeans, a long sleeve shirt, and some sturdy shoes.”
The abrupt end to the call had Danny blinking down at his phone before he pulled himself up to do as he was told.
-
Jason studied Danny as the other came out of his apartment building. He hadn’t liked how Danny sounded on the phone and he didn’t much like how Danny looked now. It was like the other had tucked all his loud, jagged, wonderful edges away. It was like he was hiding from the world.
Well, Jason would just have to fix that.
“Just one quick stop,” Jason said, handing Danny a helmet.
“I’m fine, you don’t have to ba—”
“Fish,” Jason said firmly. He waited until Danny was actually looking at him (not frowning at the ground) to continue. “It’s okay if you’re not okay. You don’t have to apologize to me or about it or about you. You can be not fine.”
Fuck he was sounding like his well meaning family now. Still, it got a wobbly smile from Danny, so maybe it was worth parroting back the words. The words didn’t always help, he knew that. They certainly didn’t fix stuff that he still struggled with some days, but they couldn’t hurt. It couldn’t hurt to be reminded that someone cared.
“Okay. One quick stop,” Danny agreed.
“Right,” Jason said. He turned and straddled his motorcycle. “You ever ridden before?”
“Yeah, actually I have. A friend has one.”
“Huh.” Jason was actually a little surprised by that. “Okay then hang on tight. We won’t be doing anything crazy in the city, but we might have to stop quickly. Some drivers are jackasses about motorcycles.”
The bike dipped under him as Danny settled on behind him. There was an obvious moment of hesitation before Danny let himself slide forward. As Danny settled along his back, Jason had a thought of how well Danny fit. He briefly squeezed the arms wrapped around his waist in notice before he started his bike up and they took off through the city.
The one quick stop was to get Danny a riding jacket and gloves; Jason wanted to be sure that Danny would be warm and, more importantly, protected on the drive. As it was, Jason drove more cautiously than normal, very aware that Danny’s safety was in his hands.
It wasn’t long to the store, and he tried to make sure the shopping didn’t take too long. He could practically see Danny’s edges fraying. He did make Danny try on several jackets, even if he tried to make sure they didn’t linger, so that Danny could find the right one.
“Are you sure this is it?” Danny asked, tugging on the hem of the black leather jacket. It had a bit of a retro cut, but there was enough modern padding that if Danny fell off the road rash wouldn’t be that bad. Besides, Danny looked good in it; it cinched nicely at his waist and fit his shoulder snugly.
“Yep,” Jason said. He reached out and smacked Danny’s hand away when he tried to take a peak at the price tag again. “Stop that. I already told you I’m buying.”
“Jason—”
“Just accept it. Give me the jacket and go pick out some gloves,” he said.
Danny rolled his eyes, but shrugged off the jacket and handed it over. Jason took the moment to explain the mater to the sales person, who was cooperative about not saying the total out loud. The knowing smirk was a bit weird though. It even had Danny glancing at Jason suspiciously, but they got out of the store with what was needed and Danny none the wiser to what a good motorcycle jacket could cost.
Jason took the time to sync up both helmets so that they could talk on the ride if they wanted to, but he left the matter to Danny. It turned out to be mostly silent once they left the city, especially since Jason wasn’t explaining where they were going. The longer they were on the open roads, the more that Jason could feel Danny relaxing against his back until. Finally he settled in and rested his head against Jason’s shoulder blade.
“Thank you.”
“Ain’t seen nothing yet,” Jason rumbled back.
Danny just answered with a soft hum before he fell silent again.
Jason took them on the highway, down some side streets just for the view, and through a smaller city to the more secluded parking lot that he knew about. He could feel Danny freeze up behind him, and chuckled as he pulled off his own helmet. Danny did the same as he stumbled off the bike.
“Come on,” Jason said. He practically had to guide Danny down the path and to the top of the first bluff where the concrete ended.
Danny let out a breath exhale. “Oh, wow.”
His mouth hung slightly open as he stared out at the crashing waves and the beach that stretched out before them. A cloudy fall day wasn’t exactly the best time to visit the coast (not that they were the only ones doing so), but Danny still stared at it like it was the best thing he’d seen in a long time.
He stared at it like it gave him life.
Jason found he wanted— suddenly and fiercely— to find a million more moments that would bring that same spark to Danny’s eyes. He didn’t want Danny to stop living just because he had died.
Jason didn’t want to stop living just because he had died.
Not anymore.
He reached down to undo the knots on his boots with Danny scrambling to do the same. Laces tied together, Jason slung the boots across his shoulders and made his way onto the beach. He reached out to help balance Danny as he stumbled a little on the soft white sand.
When they had gotten to the edge of the water, Jason hung back slightly in the damp, but not wet, sand while Danny, with all of his normal abandon, rolled up his pants legs and barreled into the waves with a whoop. He ran in and out of the surf like one of those sand piper birds as the wind whipped his dark hair around his face like a storm of shadows.
Laughing as he was chased by a larger swell of water, Danny stumbled back to Jason’s side. He took a deep breath, filling his lungs with salt air, and then just slumped heavily against Jason like he was boneless. Jason took the weight easily.
Jason grinned down at Danny, who’s eyes were still locked on the water. “Worth the trip?”
“Yeah. Yeah, worth the trip. Completely. Thank you Jason.”
“’Course. Gotta get the fish to water now and then.”
“Shut up, dead boy.” Danny rolled his eyes, but his grin didn’t drop for a second.
Jason chuckled, but found he didn’t  need to say anything back. He was content to just watch Danny watch the ocean.

AN: Finally an update for you all~ ngl, there are some rough spots I'm not entirely happy with, I feel you can really tell what I wrote when I was feeling really, really poorly. But that's what a re-write is for, I guess!
The classmates won't show up too much, but I needed an outside perspective and to show Danny is settling in- even if he's struggling with some things.
Apologies for any typos, I currently want to melon ball my eye out from this migraine so you know, words are hard. Anywho, stay delightful, darlings!

so many convos on (my religion does this …) (my culture does this..) are so regional too like on the whole I haven’t had personal issues with tznius and used to be more *typically* tznius observant and enjoyed it. But like, people will also post away on Twitter about how Jews don’t have a problem with modesty culture or whatever, and those people are largely us Jews from outside orthodoxy, and I have this realllly strong memory of visiting a Judaica shop in a European Jewish neighborhood to buy Kippot and a Magen David. I was wearing an outfit I thought was very modest but which had loose boyfriend style jeans and a kind of slouchy sweater and turtleneck that was a pretty typical masorti girl fashion moment, but when I went into the shop both the old man behind the counter and the little boys looked at me like I was from Mars for wearing pants into an orthodox space and my orthodox friend (just as much *showing* as me but a skirt) had to be an interlocutor between me and them and told me not to buy a kippah there or try it on at all, it has to be for my Brother. Idk it’s kind of a strange dirty laundry moment I don’t like sharing with goyim OR with a lot of Jews who don’t have experience in these denominations, but it’s kind of. Scratched into my head, esp as that’s the reality of a lot of smaller portions of the diaspora if you want to engage in religious or cultural observance at all. there’s nothing like a seven year old judging you for being a whore lol
for the uninitiated: (orthodox) Judaism can have complex issues with modesty rulings cause it isn’t just about PHYSICAL modesty but the issue of social modesty: women have to dress *like women* and men have to dress *like men.* so this is part of the ruling on the issue in some orthodoxy communities that women can’t wear pants, because pants are for Men, and that’s men’s wear. So a lot of judgement isn’t or isn’t solely that you’re Showing Too Much Off and it’s sexual (though it can be that!!!) but that you’re looking like a man, and can prompt all kinds of inquiries into just *how* feminine a girl is looking. That’s why a woman who seems to be *showing* a lot more but is wearing a skirt and a very feminine hairdo may be judged more harshly than one who is more physically covered and wearing pants. This leads to all other fascinating areas: the general butch look is often *physically modest* but not *feminine*, whereas pants that *obviously* are Not For Men are often more physically revealing and show off curves. It’s part of how tznius is to my understanding different from hijab, but that extends to there being things permissible to many hijabis that might not be permissible to many tsnius observant communities, such as pants or mainstream “men’s clothes” in women’s department stores

Hay! I was wondering if you have any art tips by urself or others for drawing hijabs? Or other head coverings?
Hi!! Thanks for asking this! The way I draw hijab is very stylized. It's based off how I wrap my own as well as how my sisters do theirs. If you want a more comprehensive understanding, here it is :D
First off, I wanna say the easiest way to understand how to draw a hijab is by looking up tutorials on how people wrap it on youtube. There's a lot of different styles that come from different customs and cultures around the world, and they're always evolving. Seeing how it's wrapped can help you understand how the folds should go and what keeps it together.
Second, there's a bit of misconception on what hijab is. Hijab isn't just the head covering. It included arms and legs too. When drawing a person, make sure to keep modesty in mind (if you want reference for what a character with modest fashion would look like, id recommend looking at online muslim clothes stores). This is a good explanation of it all: link
If you want to include the face covering for a niqabi character, here is a tutorial: link
And for some general advice/reference, here: link
Aaaaand one more tutorial by a hijabi artist I really admire: link
I hope this helped, and good luck!! ❤️

(so unlike op whose hasnt been in pakistan since she was 6 (has said that herself)) i have lived in pakistan for 20+ years in poor and middle class neighbourhoods and i can assure you that i NEVER saw a single girl casually doing grocery shopping in hoodie and jeans with no hijab but i saw plenty of them in burkas/hijabs. im guessing op is only talking about rich class/ upper-middle-class pakistani women doing bulk shopping at super-expensive-mega-stores but even then its highly unlikely because even those women arent free from being harassed/judged

Yes, exactly. Talibs and ceo’s wives are the ones to wear mini skirts at beaches in Miami. We, regular people, are the ones forced under heavy clothes and killed for looking to the side. Those people don’t know what they’re defending and it shows.

Just had a thought. And don't bite my head off from this one chat but low-key gender presentation is a privilege. If u think about it. Like as a poor fat black person it's virtually almost impossible for me to present how I want. I can't afford the clothes I want, I can't find clothes that I like that fit, and as a black person gender and gender presentation are not things I was even allowed to have in the first place. Do you get what I mean. Am I making sense.
Like, I like what I got now, I do, but it really is just survivor clothes. If I had the money to I would buy all the belts and the boots and the hats, but for now I got some t-shirts and some jeans and some hiking boots that are gonna fall apart in a couple months from the thrift store, all the shit that I could manage to find that fit me. All the actual cute shit that tiktokkers be raving about? Yeah no. Haha. No.
Then just the fact that I'm black and fat. Do we even gotta talk about the way society has demonized, dehumanized, degendered and whatever else fat and black people? There's a whole other rant I can get into about how ableism and saneism removes your humanity and gender from yourself as well, but I'm mostly talking about what I experience and since I don't have many visible disabilities and saneism hasn't affected my gender too much I won't for now.
Anyways. Yeah. Gender presentation low key a privilege. Like you seen those tiktoks where people make fun of transmen and mascs for being upset when they're misgendered even tho they got huge honkers. What if those theoretical transmascs are disabled and can't bind. What if they have sensory issues. What if they can't afford a binder, or tape, or their work makes it difficult to bind, or they're in a living situation where it would put them in danger. Hm?
If you think that people have to present a certain way to be accepted as their gender (or lack of) and blame the person for not being able to, or you always talk about presentation in a way that almost always excludes disabled and poor people, or people who wear different styles for religious or cultural reasons (and no, ur not ally of the year if you ONLY include Hijab in ur post. It's important you include Hijab and other cultural/religious clothing) then I just find you incredibly privileged.
(and this also ties into how I feel about TMA/TMI/TMT language, but I'll probably talk about that later)

decided to post another set of these after the first set got more notes than i expected (my expectation was max 8 ngl). thank you all so much. fashion rambling under the cut!
i started this challenge after seeing instagram user evelilcp make a reel/tik tok of styling various cartoon characters as high fashion outfits and seeing tokyofashion's instagram i decided i needed to step up my fashion game.
i've been collecting lots different clothes of various textures and colours because i refuse to limit myself to basics. most of my clothes are thrifted, my mom's old clothes and i only bought new clothes if i had a specific item in mind or i need basics (black pants, white button ups, jeans etc) and i always buy with intent for these clothes to be in my closet for years, some of these pieces have been with from like 2016.
some thought process behind building these outfits: 1. make outfits interesting as possible by using different textures. in the geats outfit, i mixed a fuzzy white cardigan with an old button down that has silver thread and sheer elements.
2. i try to stick to the colour order of the suits as much as possible. in the kamen rider birth outfit, i stuck to white and teal for my top and black pants.
3. sometimes i try to incorporate the riders personal style to create a more interesting outfit. in my first post, for zolda's, i wore a white button down and a tie to match kitaoka's office wear.
4. i don't like sunglasses so i used eye shadow to match the eye part of the masks.
5. i have some hats and hair clips. for my hijab, i pick the colour from the helmet and pair it with a hat that's in a colour thats also in the helmet (often times its red or dark blue/black).
some general fashion advice i'd give: 1. sometimes things look tacky and a bit bold in the store and for me, i have tried to envision these kind of items paired with some basic garments, it eventually balance out. like the teal/green vest im wearing in the birth outfit. on the rack and on its own, it seemed too bold at first but like i said, once paired with some basics, it's pretty nice.
2. one piece of advice i saw on tik tok is that you can make a monochrome outfit more interesting with different textures as seen in my geats outfit. layering is a bit intimidating but you can start with pieces that have similar colours (blue and green, pink and red etc) or layer bold colours with black or white pieces.
3. i have had this practice since 2015 to never wear the same outfit twice and what i mean is that to keep clothes from being boring, i will wear a shirt with different pants (that i already own) each time and vice versa. i think that with this method, i see my clothes in a new light each time and have more outfit options. i think outfit repeating is boring and im a creative person who needs challenge each time.
anyway, thank you for reading this.

Hope ur doing okay <3. I wanted to ask if u could make a part 2 of Tokyo revengers member with a hijabi girl but this time they’re married and it’s like a headcanon of how the guys act in public, or if they help her to dress up please ! :) (if u do it, I’m okay with all characters but can u add mitsuya plzzz)
I rlly don’t know if that’s clear bc English isn’t my first language but I hope it is and sorry for the typos !!
Btw hello from France, I love ur headcanons hehee :))
Heyyy, I hope everything is okay over there, France looks like it's burning rn from the news I'm getting. Also yeah I am totally doing this!
Also your english is pretty good so don't worry sweetheart,
Also I did not proofread
Characters : Ran, Rindou, Sanzu, Baji, Mitsuya
Tokyo revengers with a muslim wife :D
Part one , part two -> tr with a muslim friend
Ran
This slick mf
this click model lanky ass dude mf
how did you even get to date him? With his fvking braids???
Anyways, back to the now where he has a better haircut-
Since he is what we could say the main leader of Roppongi, he must also have access to many clothing shops
and when I tell you he let his underlings install as many modest shops as possible-
just to go on a walk with you and be like-
"Oh, that is new. Wanna go in and see some dresses or skirts for you?"
again, he is a slick mf
but you somehow love him so i let you vibbeeeee
"Oh, that looks nice- oop, nope, not for me.", you muttered after you checked the price on the tag of a pretty looking dress
but ran just took it and put it on his underarm like a waiter would
you felt bad the whole time
cuz like, everything is so expensive???
but no shit cuz it has qualityyyyy
chile anyways
you got like ten dresses and two abayas you wanted to "just try out"
mind you ran is actually planning to buy the whole store for you
but you are also no better, you are a lil shit as well
when you got to the place where they hung the hijabs, you smirked at him mischieviously
your were trying to hold in your laugh as you tapped him on the shoulder
"He-hey Ran...w-wanna try this out?", and you couldn't do no more than to burst out laughing
ran just smiled at you in fondness while he thought back to the day where you first led him to one of the stores you frequented and he wanted to make you laugh
so he put on a headshawl, but he looked more like a grandma than a modest woman
and you had that exact picture in mind as you were giggling
at least he was your husband now
he pays for everything, he is sweet to you, and you feel comfortable around him, even in public
y'all look like a power couple tbh
he looks rich and you're his precious woman
damn I'm feeling so single now. Thanks for requesting this. It's a great reminder on how I'll never find a rich man like him.
Rindou
shy, still surprised and happy that you decided to marry him
like, you married him? he was bald on both sides of his head in his teen age gírl!
he looks better now-
enough of the bullying, this tsundere man (I still know nothing about these guys) had the same idea as his older brother and so, there were many shops, but under his name. He financed them, and so it was no surprise when he took you out on a shopping spree, only for you to take whatever you want
safe to say he fell in love all over again when he saw you happily strolling ahead and picked some clothes for yourself
he also loves showing you off
like, he's also lucky that you don't mind stepping out in public with him
y'all also look like a power couple
and honestly, he thinks that you look absolutely beautiful, covered in the finest silk and smiling that sweet smile of yours
Sanzu
You were the reason he stopped falling into the abyss of temporary ecstasy, which would lead to his death
He was surprised that you didn't look at him weirdly
and now, he is happy to call himself your husband
he loves touching the different susbances like jersey, silk, or cotton cloth, which you would use to cover your head with
"This one looks nice! Want me to buy it for you?"
Such a sweet man for you
always tells you when there's hair visible, also stands in front of you, looking down on you with a fond smile as you hurriedly fix your hijab
loves holding your hand and swinging it around
Feels much better when you tell him about Islam and stories from the prophets
wants to protect you at all costs because you're just so beautiful and sweet and he wouldn't be able to live alone anymore if something happened to you,
I mean,
you saved him from the drugs and alcohol, he wants to save you form all the bastards outside
Baji
You guys got together because he beated up a few guys who were harrassing you
stares at the men who look at you for longer than 0.0000001 second
like Baji...
please-
anyways
hates it when you wash your stuff and he has to iron them then, because he fears that he'd either not iron it perfectly, or the iron burns your precious and expensive cloths
you always tell him to let you do it yourself, his deadass response is always:
"If I can't iron my wife's clothes then what type of man am I?!?"
We love Baji
Is also in love with your cooking? Or when you go to a restaurant which has your traditional food, he is all in
wants to have kids with you, like in the first month of being married, he was like, "would you like to start a family? I'd love to see my daughters wearing hijabs as well"
Goals
we got him, sisters
You smile, "Let's wait a little"
Like c'mon Baji, let your wife have a calm live, kids can come later
but he still managed to put you into a baby fever
Sends you fucking videos of mothers playing with their daughters
little girls putting on niqabs
little biys praying alongside or behind their father
Baji got taught how to pray by you, your father, or his newly found friends in mosques
he wants to have children so bad, and the fact that Islam is not just a religion but the way of living life, he wants to teach his younglings as well
(How did I think about kids all of a sudden???)
Mitsuya
You better believe that when you ask him to go buy clothes with you, he's only looking for ideal cotton which won't irritate your skin
will make you feel guilty by saying: "don't you trust my skills?"
damn another gaslighter, but in a healthy way
I mean, sure, buying cotton itself is expensive, but at least he knows what fits you spot on and you don't have to look for stuff that you'll only wear once a month
takes lessons on how to make the perfect hijab and dress for you
I've said it once but I'll say it again,
GOALSSS
ok now here again
will have the same idea as baji and ask you if you'd like to have kids
to make them hijabs as well
In his next fashion meeting, he introduces the idea of having his models run the stage with modest clothing, and got accepted
when I tell you their marketing skyrocketed-
You're happy that your husband launches modest clothing for other muslims as well
---
Sorry if it got shorter and shorter but that was all I could come up with. And now looking back, I'm confused as to why Ran's is so long, I don't even like him, like wtf?
Anyways, I hope you liked it!
Leave a like or a comment! Reblog if you want to!

A US hitwoman disguised in a hijab who was foiled when her gun jammed during an attempted murder in Britain is still at large after returning to the US, prosecutors say.
Aimee Betro, 44, was recruited by British father and son Mohammed Nazir, 30, and Mohammed Aslam, 56, to conduct a revenge killing against Aslat Mahamud and his relatives after a 2018 dispute at a jewellery store left the father and son duo injured.
Betro, who is from Milwaukee in Wisconsin, allegedly flew in from Chicago for the contract killing in Acocks Green in Birmingham, on September 7, 2019, after arranging to meet Mahamud’s son, shop owner Sikander Ali, to look at a Volkswagen Golf that the family was selling, Birmingham Crown Court was told, but the attempted shooting did not go to plan.
Dressed in a hijab, Betro “calmly” approached Ali, and pointed a gun at his head, the court heard. However, when she went to pull the trigger, the gun became jammed and Ali fled the scene.
The next morning, Betro allegedly went to Mahamud’s house and opened fire three times, before texting Mahamud: “Stop playing hide and seek” and “Where are you hiding?” the court was told. No one was injured.
Betro allegedly later sent Aslat Mahamud another text saying: “You want to rip me off, you want to be a drug kingpin go look at your house. I will show you. Watch your back. I will be shedding blood soon.”
The 44-year-old is said to have flown back to Chicago two days later and is still believed to be at large in the US, with an international manhunt underway.
If Betro is arrested in the US, it is not clear if she will be extradited to the UK to face possible charges.
Under the US’s extradition treaty with the UK, the UK must prove that a crime has been committed under both US and UK law and provide evidence that shows a “reasonable” demonstration of guilt in order for a US citizen to be extradited to the US.
Social media posts by Betro, reported by The Times, appear to show that she documented her trip to the UK from August to September 2019 in great detail.
In one Instagram post, she appears to talk about visiting her “partner in crime” in Manchester. In another post from the day before the first attempted shooting, Betro is seen posing in a picture with devil horns.
In other posts, she talks about attending the Tranzmission Festival in Crystal Palace, London, and going on a boat tour of the River Thames, it is reported.
During her time in London, she stayed at a number of hotels in Birmingham, Brighton, Derby and Manchester, in one case staying at a Raddison Blue hotel, the court heard.
Betro is not a professional hitwoman. She apparently works as a freelance graphic designer and studied early childhood education at Mid-State Technical College in Wisconsin, graduating in 2005 before going on to work as an administrator for the Milwaukee Brewers baseball team. In 2003, she wrote a letter to her local paper arguing in favour of free birth control for women.
Nazir and Aslam, of Derby, were found guilty of conspiracy to murder last week for their role in the attempted killing.
Nazir was also found guilty of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, perverting the course of justice and illegally importing firearms over a plot to bring guns into the country and then blame it on another person to frame them. Aslam was cleared of a firearms offense.
The guilty verdicts were handed down after the court heard that Nazir and Aslam held a grudge against Ali’s family following a violent dispute at his boutique clothing store in Birmingham, in central England, on July 21, 2018.
The violent incident had left Nazir and Aslam injured, with the windows of their shop left smashed and the interior “trashed”.
In order to seek revenge, the pair allegedly flew Betro over from the States to Birmingham to kill Ali and his family.
On September 6, Nazir and Aslam travelled from their home in Derby to Birmingham city centre, with Nazir spending more than two hours in a hotel with Betro–  who ordered a takeaway from Deliveroo – according to prosecutors.
Betro had apparently arranged to meet Ali the next day on the pretense of buying a car.
Birmingham Crown Court heard how Betro – disguised in a hijab – pulled up in a Mercedes before Ali pulled up in an Audi nearby.
Kevin Hegarty KC, prosecuting said: “As he did, the would-be assassin came from the driver’s side of the Mercedes.
“As she left the Mercedes she left the driver’s door open. She walked quite calmly towards Sikander Ali and was pointing a gun at him at head height.
“As she got closer to Sikander Ali he saw her and he saw the gun and she pulled the trigger to fire the gun at him. Mercifully and luckily for him the gun jammed.”
Hegarty said Ali rapidly reversed his car and drove off, while Betro reportedly abandoned her Mercedes nearby – where it was later found by police.
Nazir flew out to America a few days later, a couple of days after Betro, who he put down as his point of contact on travel documentation, but he was arrested after his return to the UK the following month. Aslam was also arrested.
Detective Inspector Matt Marston, from West Midlands Police, said the pair were “determined to take revenge.”
“The lengths they went to in trying to make sure they weren’t implicated in pulling the trigger are immense,” he added.
“However, thanks to some great police work and support from our Derbyshire colleagues we were able to place them firmly in the middle of the attempted murder plot.”

So, I spent the last two play sessions ignoring missions and going around buying clothes, and I have a few observations:
One holdover from clothes formerly having an armour system is that the tier rating of clothes is going up as I level up. And so is the price. Everything costs 2,000 Eurodollars now, despite most things not having any stat boosts.
There is still some clothes that give stat boosts, and bulletproof vests actually provide armour.
Skirts and shorts are in short supply, but pants are abundant.
Similarly, everyone stocks jackets, but shirts are hard to get.
I see plenty of NPCs with fishnet leggings but never seen one in store.
This is the first game I've ever played where Hijabs and Keffiyehs are clothing options.

ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀ 6: ᴡʜᴇɴ ᴊᴏᴀɴs ᴍᴇᴇᴛ ʟ/ɴ
Lost In Time And Space Series
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
The sound of traffic that is busy with engine vehicles can be heard loudly on the road that is busy with people who need to go to the designated workplace. People who don't have a vehicle walk at a fast pace with their hands carrying briefcases or any kind of work bags. They wear smart and neat clothes for their work. Some of them wear hats, shawls and hijabs. Some of them wear full suits, jackets or uniforms.
Including a young woman with dark blonde hair with the streak of dark brown in her hair. She wears a white coat and a dark shirt inside, black pants and simple shoes that look like sandals. Her right chest adorned her name tag. Maise Joans. Soon to be a Doctor at one of the biggest hospitals in the city. She's still an intern there. With a lot of students who are still trying to finish their internship. Her shoulder carries a zipped tote bag full with fails and all valuables. While her hands are holding her smartphone which has a clear case with a Polaroid in it.
The Polaroid shows two women smiling at each other and one of them is Maisie Joans. The other woman is a version of older Maisie Joans. Her mother. Ophelia Joans. Her one and only family she loves and always will. The only family she has. She lost her father at a young age. She barely remembers her father due to her being so young. The only memories she has are her mother.
She still lives with her mother. Her mother insisted that she doesn't need to live far from her as she doesn't want to be left alone. She is the only child in the family. And so was her mother and father. So they are a small family. Thankfully, her both sides of grandparents are still alive so they don't feel alone and can still have a family relationship. Both sides of grandparents adored Maisie as she is the only granddaughter they have. They don't care if they are blessed with a grandchild. They are happy and spoiled her too much. But not too much to turn her into a spoiler kid. She is still clumsy and humble.
Maisie smiled at the phone screen. Probably one of her mother's jokes she found it quite amusing during massaging. Her fingers typing fast to reply to her mother's message. Sometimes she diverts her attention to the road in front of her so as not to bump into people. The seller who is an old man wearing a blue collared shirt with dark skinned who knows her greetings her with beaming as the seller has known her since childhood. Maisie smiles and responds to the seller's greetings with the same energy. Mr Ahmad. He is the owner of a shawarma store that has been in business for a long time. He has 3 children who are grown up and have successful jobs. One of them being a Doctor where Maisie works. His wife peacefully passed away a few years ago.
"Late for work again there Maisie?" Mr Ahmad asked with his raspy voice. He smiled at the young woman.
"I forgot to set the clock on my phone" Maisie huffed as she stopped at the front counter of Mr Ahmad's shop after being called by him.
"Well, at least your mother woke you up on time" Mr Ahmad replied, his hands busy making orders that Maisie always ordered without being told because he knows Maisie since she was a child.
"Luckily there are 15 minutes before I go to work" Maisie pocketing her phone in her white coat.
"Good for you then, dear" Mr Ahmad put the shawarma that had been wrapped in a paper bag before giving it to Maisie who took it after paying.
"And don't forget to come to my shop tonight. It's the opening anniversary of this shop. Your mother must have forgotten to tell you but if it's about my famous shawarma she never forgets" Mr Ahmad chuckled. "and my children will come tonight to celebrate help me. This place will be full with customers but you and your mother are my regulars. Of course I will save a place for you two. Feel free to bring friends. More people will make it more lively. "
Maisie nodded in understanding. "Of course we will both come. We won't miss your famous shawarma, Mr Ahmad." Maisie grinned. "anyway I have to go, thank you for the food and good day, Mr Ahmad" And Maisie left the shawarma shop.
Maisie's phone makes a notification sound indicating that a new message has been answered. Maisie opened her zippered tote bag and put a paper bag containing shawarma in it and zipped the bag. Hand put in pocket, took out her phone. Maisie smiled when her mother's message appeared on her phone screen.
'Forget to, tell you, tonight we are going to Mr Ahmad's shop for the anniversary night'
'Mom, I know.. Mr Ahmad already told me'
'oh, bless that man. luckily, he reminded you. I almost forgot about tonight but then I remember when I saw discarded shawarma packages in the trash..'
Maisie pursed her lips trying to contain her laugh. She knows her mother is having difficulty to remember things but she is quick to recover her forgetful self when she sees things that remind her of something important. Maisie sometimes helps her mother to remember things so that is very grateful to her mother for having such a helpful daughter. Both mother and daughter rely very much on each other.
'Just to remind, don't forget to take your jacket that has been sewn at Mrs Chatterjee's house, mom' Maisie sends.
'now that you have reminded me.. I will take it now'
Maisie chuckled lowly at her mother's behavior. Eyes still focusing on the phone screen, Maisie did not realize that a woman suddenly appeared in front of her. She collided with the woman in front of her with a little force making both her and the woman take a step back and almost fall. Maisie's phone fell to the ground. Thankfully it was not damaged. Maisie panicked when she recovered herself from the collision. She then looked at the woman who was wearing a long jacket and dark pants. She has H/c and eyes that are E/c. She is slightly taller than her. Only 3 inches from her. She looks young and old at the same time making Maisie think that the woman is middle-aged.
Maisie picked up her phone from the ground and put it in her pocket. Her mouth was constantly apologizing to the woman.
"uh, it's okay.. No need to apologize.. Neither of us got hurt, right?" the woman said, grinning.
"Noo.. It's my fault.. I didn't look ahead while walking and bumped into you. Although neither of us got hurt, it's still my fault that I bumped into you" Maisie said, a little worried.
"No no.. It's okay.. Not your fault too, I'm suddenly in your way. So none of us are guilty in this. Anyway, can I borrow your pen? I don't know, maybe the pen you already have no use anymore?" The woman suddenly asked.
Maisie frowned in confusion before unzipping her tote bag and fished out her pencil case in which she kept her pen and any kind of writing equipment. She then took out a blue pen that had some ink in it. She gave it to the woman without asking any questions.
The woman took it with a cheeky grinned and pocketed it into her long jacket.
"thank you" and then she leave.
Maisie frowned at that. 'did she just steal my unused pen?' Maisie shrugged her shoulders off and ignored the nagging feelings that seemed to tell her that she would meet the woman again before continuing her walk to the hospital that was not far away.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
"some of the patients here have been in this hospital for a long time, but with the help of our equipment which is sufficient and sophisticated we can cure the patients here in no time. But only time can tell." The Head hospital said as he led the group of students of which Maisie was one of them into the wards filled with patients from various types of diseases.
Some of the patients there are sitting and being visited by their families and some of them are lying with hospital equipment attached to their bodies. And some of the patients.. alone without being visited by family.
The group of students stopped at the center wards as the head of hospital explained various information about the patient. How to read their pulse and heart and everything related to medicine.
Maisie's mind was elsewhere as her eyes focused on a patient she seemed to have seen before. Her ears did not catch what the head of the hospital said as her eyes only focused on the H/c haired woman who was leaning on the hospital bed that had been adjusted to sit. Her right arm was put in water which was hung on a hanger next to her bed which she seems ignored it as if nothing happened. Instead she seemed devoted to reading a book in her hands. She even wears reading glasses. Although the hospital curtain slightly blocked the woman's face but with a little bit aside, Maisie could see a peek of the woman's face properly.
Even with the glasses she was wearing, Maisie could still recognize that woman she bumped into and borrowed her unused pen.
"Miss Joans?"
Maisie diverted her attention from the woman to the head of the hospital who was staring at her.
"yes?" Maisie replied.
"It's seemed that you didn't focus on what I said.. Why don't you show us how to find severe abdominal pains, Miss Joans?" the head of hospital, Doctor Lockwood raised his eyebrows.
"umm.. " Maisie anxiously looked around.
"Now then, Miss L/n, good morning and how are you today?" Doctor Lockwood stood by Miss L/n's bed after he moved the hospital curtain to the side revealing a woman with H/c hair.
Miss L/n looked up from the book she was reading, glanced at Doctor Lockwood's face with surprise. She smiled at him.
"I'm a little better than the last two days, although, I'm still vomiting and have a stomach ache.. Little bit dizzy though, but today it's a little under control but still..you know.. Blehh" Miss L/n said, taking off her glasses and placing them on her lap along with the book. Now her attention on Doctor Lockwood.
"Good to know that it's not like two days ago.. Miss L/n got admitted to this hospital two days ago due to severe abdominal pains and dizziness.. Now Miss Joans, why don't you find it? Please.." Doctor Lockwood ordered.
Maisie gulped nervously and moved forward to Miss L/n's side. She knows this woman from before. She looks amd bumped into her. She looked healthy earlier now she is here, sick and in bed.
"well, it's not very clever running outside with severe abdominal pain and dizziness, right.. Not to mention that you stole my unused pen which I don't care about it" Maisie said as soon as she was at Miss L/n's side.
Miss L/n frowned. "sorry?"
"On the street near Mr Ahmad Shawarma shop, I bumped into you and you said that we both did nothing wrong and then suddenly you borrowed my pen and just.. walked away" Maisie took a stethoscope linked to her neck.
"really.. why did I do that for?" Miss L/n narrowed her eyes.
"I don't know.. you did it" Maisie said.
"Then it's not me.. I've been here since the last two days, now it's 3 days if you count today. Besides, I can't run around outside with my stomach that hurts and dizziness, can I? I'll vomit every minute, you know.. You can ask the nurses if you don't believe me" Miss L/n reasoned with a frown. Not the kind of frowned that seems angry but puzzled.
"that's a bit odd.. because it looks like you.. do you have a twin?" Maisie stared at Miss L/n for a moment.
"nope.. No twins.. Just me!" Miss L/n grinned sweetly.
"You said you got admitted 2 days ago, how come I never saw you?" Maisie narrowed her eyes.
"I'm always here unless I go to the toilet which is well.. Diarrhea.. Or you've never entered this ward. I don't have energy to move around, you see.." Miss L/n replied, smiled reassuringly.
"good point.. " Maisie dropped the topic.
"I trust you have no problem finding it?" Doctor Lockwood suddenly at her side after he assisted another student.
"ergh... no.. right.." Maisie wears a stethoscope in both her ears. She moved the end of the stethoscope towards Miss L/n's left chest, looking for a heartbeat.
Ba-boom-ba-boom-ba-boom. That's what Maisie heard but then she frowned, puzzled. There's an echo in other side of chest. Maisie glanced at Miss L/n's face in puzzlement. Miss L/n only smiled widely at her.
Maisie moved the stethoscope to Miss L/n's right chest. Ba-boom-ba-boom-ba-boom. A second heartbeat was heard under Maisie Joans' stethoscope.
'her heartbeat is full of samba there' Maisie thought, amazed at what she discovered. Maisie stared at Miss L/n's face, lost for words. Miss L/n giving her smallest wink.
"are you having trouble finding a heartbeat, Miss Joans?" Doctor Lockwood said, hands in his white coat pockets. Eyes narrowed towards her.
"ergh.. no, Doctor.. everything good" Maisie shifted her eyes to Doctor Lockwood.
"Then what do you discover, Miss Joans?" Doctor Lockwood taunts her.
"ergh.. Stomach cramps?" Maisie replied, nervously.
"That's a symptom, Miss Joans, not a diagnosis and you rather failed basic
techniques by not consulting first with the patient's chart" Doctor Lockwood took the patient's chart on the table at the end of Miss L/n's bed. "ahh, food poisoning and slight migraine, That's what the diagnosis is called, Miss Joans"
Maisie looked down in shame not noticing that Miss L/n looked sympathetically at her. Now Maisie feels that she will never pass these exams. She will not be called Doctor Joans.
"Uh, Doctor Lockwood.. Can you tell us more about the blood donation day that will be held tomorrow?" One of the students suddenly asked after he finished checking the patient. Which is high fever.
Doctor Lockwood looked at the male student with sudden interest. "ah yes, of course. As you may know, tomorrow is blood donation day for our hospital. We need more blood because we lack blood supply these days. And this is the best way for us to increase the blood supply so that more lives can be saved So tomorrow I want some of you to bring the blood donors to the blood donation tent set up for them. You're going to treat them kindly and relax so they don't feel anxious during blood donation" Doctor Lockwood explained with a newfound pride. He grinned, weirdly. "We just need fresh blood that is healthy for our patients who need it"
Maisie looked at him strangely. 'blood donation day? I don't even know about that'
"That's good isn't it, letting people donate their blood to save the lives of those in need" Miss L/n said, grinning.
"yes, indeed. With this blood supply we have, we can use it for tests and save lives." Doctor Lockwood smiled showing his teeth. His hands are still in the pocket of his white coat.
"Now, how about we go somewhere else? I'll show you to the operating room." Doctor Lockwood suggested to the students.
Maisie nodded her head. She looked at Miss L/n for a moment. Her mind is still puzzled by what she heard just now. Two heartbeats on the left and right of Miss L/n's chest. Both beat in unison. Maisie finally moved her legs to walked away from there but then she bumped into one of the nurses who was wearing a face mask by accident.
"Sorry, so sorry.. I didn't mean to bump into you" Maisie apologized several times but the nurse just kept quiet and looked at her blankly before she turned and left.
Behind the nurse, a patient followed the nurse anxiously. Probably to check up? Maisie shook off that suspicious feeling. Why do you want to check on patients privately? why not in their bed? but then again, Maisie is just a student who wants to pass this exam to be called Doctor.
She looked at Miss L/n for the last time. Miss L/n seemed to continue reading her book. Glasses perched on her bridge of nose. She seemed devoted to reading her book. As if Miss L/n could feel eyes watching her, she shifted her gaze to Maisie. Miss L/n sent her a cheeky smile. Maisie returned her smile and followed the other students out of the ward to go to another destination.
