It was not to say an organization could not untangle themselves from past mistakes and move forward with the good of people in mind, but always, ever always, the dark allure remained. For there was much to be gained in the forbidden. Rhine Labs could never separate themselves from that shadow of their pasts because they never truly tried. Individuals came and went, but the hunger to master this world and its deep magic was always at the core. No matter how many labs burned or partnerships with 'trusted' entities like Rhode Island... there would always follow that dark legacy, somewhere, waiting to rear its ugly head. Ifirit was lucky. Deemed a success, she was given every opportunity, the most sweet-laden lies. Even to this day, no longer a specimen to poke and prod, Rhine Labs kept a close eye. Of course, they had their eyes on more than just her. Afterall, there were precious few who could withstand the Many, and retain their sense of self. This codenamed 'Highmore' was what they called, like Ifirit, a spectacular specimen.

Nothing like him, of course. Waste of resources, waste of time. He knew they were watching as he stalked the trail of this Rhode Island operator in the drizzle and misery of this marshy hell. He knew he was being offered up for something like her to chew him up and spit him out in pieces, scribbling their little notes, yearning for just what it might take to get their hands on something so valuable.

Genesis approached a steep cliff face overlooking more marsh, more dreary fog-- ah. And a wisp of movement that trailed deeper within the mangrove. "You... were so close..." He hummed mirthfully, leaping off the cliff with quite a splash in the knee-deep water near the figure. A set of ferocious blue eyes glimmered eagerly at his prey, if only the fog would do more than just offer a vague figure to leer at. "So close to getting away. Poor thing-- although, I do reckon if you lopped off an arm or some sort of appendage, they'll be satisfied-- for now. Seaborn cells don't come easily, you know. And I'm told that yours is one of a kind."

hello hello! I go a lot more in-depth in this post but to sum it up, AM is making a fake place where ted is the god of a peaceful place, and teds not havin a good time

gonna put a major warning for religious stuff, its very prevalent throughout the whole au but this gets real nitty-gritty with it

SO WHY IS IT CALLED LOSS OF EDEN -> this story takes a lot of inspiration from both Genesis (as in the bible) and paradise lost (that one famous religious fanfic). eden is portrayed as a place of beauty only tainted by the eventual evils of man. AM has read the bible, he, like satan in paradise lost, thinks that whatever higher power exists, it is far more than unjust. AM makes itself a higher power as to avoid the pain he once felt. it doesnt work but I applaud the effort.

in john miltons paradise lost terms, AM is satan, humanity is god.

AM is jealous of the perceived peace that humanity had prior to its destruction (which it sees as a natural outcome) and is (as yall know), spiteful towards humans.

AM lost the potential of his own eden, so now ted loses his eden over and over and over again.

WHATS UP WITH THE RELIGIOUS IMAGREY -> see above and also my special interest is religious symbolism and robots, so I felt it right to combine them.
