So many people say “sugar makes you fat”, and I’m over here eating 4000 calories a day of 90% carbohydrates just getting leaner, fitter, and healthier as time goes on 😆🍌🍚🍠. Sugar DOESN’T make you fat, refined carbohydrates DON’T make you fat; the FAT added or in foods naturally when consumed in excess of body needs is what makes people fat. A lot of people eat high fat/protein foods for “satiatiation”, but all they are really doing is slowing down their metabolic rate and promoting weight gain (due to elevated insulin levels) later down the road. Carbohydrate dense plant foods are what your body craves, you just have to eat enough of them at each meal to trigger satiety. In order to gain weight, you need to eat more than you burn. Chose foods that are dense, such as: Nuts, nut butters (avoid peanuts which are actually #legumes), avocados, oils, etc. Add one tbsp more of oil than you are used to. . 2) - Eat and snack often: Snack every two hours when trying to gain healthy weight. Even if you aren't hungry, eat something. Nuts, seeds, dried fruits, gluten-and-oat-free granola and high-calorie and dense food bars. 3) - Have balanced meals: Don't focus too much on the serving amount but always have a good combination of plant-based proteins, carbohydrates, and healthy fats in your meals (eat low glycemic plant foods). . 4) - Eat more dried fruits than fresh: Dried fruits are higher in calories and less in water content, meaning you don't get full as fast. For example, choose raisins over grapes and dried mango slices over fresh mangos. Fresh fruits have high water content, which can lead to fullness quicker. . 5) - Drink your food: Fresh fruit juices (smoothies) are high in calories and also in vitamins and minerals. Rather than eating a platter of strawberries, bananas, blueberries, other fruits and then drinking almond milk or coconut water (whatever you use), you can blend it all together and drink it without feeling full. Avoid #proteinpowder, even plant-based ones. . 6) - Have a snack before bedtime: Food sits on the body when eaten at night, and night time digestion also keeps your body warm. Many athletes (regardless of diet) use this technique to gain weight. Eat something previously recommended under the Paleo-Vegan diet. . 7) - Cut back on #cardio: Reduce the amount of calorie-burning work you do.
