although he brings them back a second time in a deleted scene where they’re all dancing around outside of the cave on the night of the play only for him to make out with one of them in another deleted scene that wasn’t recovered… (( this was revealed in an old interview on someone working behind the scenes btw ))

so like i kinda feel bad for them. like y’all just there for show but i wish you had more lines and other purposes besides possibly not passing a bechdel test ://////

^ lowkey this same concept is kinda seen with chris’s character too. like all she’s there for is a romantic interest for knox. like cmon now she’s one of the main female characters and THIS is what she gets. i wanna know more about my girl chris!!!!

and i kind of understand why it’s set up this way since y’know it’s an all male boarding school in the 1950s—how do you fit female characters in and how are they viewed? it’s not the greatest setup of all time

Here goes! Midnight brain thoughts go brrr. I am going to regret this in the morning, probably. Debating making an AO3 account just to post this or not Prologue:

The moon loomed, cold and foreboding, over the vast streets of Central Hub City. It was a quiet night. Most civilians had long since returned home to their families, and the usual nighttime bustle was significantly calmer. Typically crowded clubs held only their regular patrons, and most other places had closed down for the night.

So, in theory, it should have been an easy night for Branzy to patrol.

Listen, he hadn’t meant to stay out quite as late as he had. Rek wasn’t there to be his man in the chair, and Branzy hadn’t been paying attention. The city being so quiet was meant to be a good thing. He could take it easy, stop a mugging or two, walk someone home, and call the night a job well done. Instead, he had found himself hiding behind a dumpster, hand over his mouth and desperately trying to not gasp for every breath.

Branzy knew better, he should have known the city was holding its breath because there was a predator on the loose tonight. Footsteps echoed down the alleyway, and Branzy held his breath, and waited, and waited. There was a small pause as the person seemed to stop and consider. Branzy’s head was spinning, brain whirling a mile a minute. The fire escape just across from him was a bit too high even with the new spring-loaded boots Rek had made, and far too exposed. He’d be dead before he grabbed the rail. There was a fence at the end of the alleyway that led to a courtyard, but he couldn’t see far enough to tell if there was another exit. It was too dark, and he was panicking, and Rek wasn’t even awake to help him but it wasn’t like he could call him anyway without giving up his position-

After what seemed like an eternity the footsteps resumed. Each step grew fainter as the person stalked away, and Branzy finally allowed himself a small sigh. He waited another few minutes, footsteps long since gone, just in case it was a trap. Rek might not be here with him now, but gosh his voice still echoed in Branzy’s head.

You know, they might not actually be gone. They were hunting you, and you saw another guy. This could all be a diversion. The first one walked away so that you would lower your guard and the second guy is just waiting there. 

…. Curse Rekrap and his paranoid thoughts. He was rubbing off on Branzy a little too much, actually. Branzy allowed himself to slowly rise from the concrete below, legs aching and his arms throbbing where he had blocked each blow. Cautiously taking a peek over the dumpster revealed that he was indeed alone in the alley. Branzy stretched a bit and winced at the strain; boy, he was going to be sore at work tomorrow. He tugged his jacket tighter around him to ward off the chill and headed towards the fence. Branzy would take his chances with the courtyard. There was no way in hell he was going to leave the alley and get jumped, because he still had a gut feeling those guys didn’t actually lose him.

Grabbing ahold of the chain links, Branzy hoisted himself up and over the fence. Sure, he was doing illegal things, but he was above vandalizing property and breaking the padlock. That would just be rude to the people who lived there.

He was halfway across the courtyard when the hairs on the back of his neck rose. Branzy might not be able to predict things like Rek could, but he felt the eyes digging into his back and tensed. Carefully, quickly, he bolted for the other end of the yard where the other gate was open and practically screamed freedom at him. Something landed behind him with a loud thump and Branzy did not look back, they were still after him, they’d found him again he was already tired and sore he couldn’t take another fight and his lungs burned with the effort of running-

An arrow found its home in his shoulder and Branzy let out a muffled shout. Fuck, he’d already taken a few punches earlier, but each swing and weave as he dashed towards the exit just sent another wave of white-hot pain down his back. The footsteps following him were getting louder and the person was gaining but the exit gate was so close he could practically taste the freedom. 

The mic in his ear crackled and Branzy nearly sobbed in relief as Rek’s voice popped up.

“Dude, I woke up in the middle of the night, what on earth did you get yourself into?”

“Help, please, I’m being chased and I’m hit-”

“Shit, hang on, use the boost pack. The new button I added on your wrist brace. It’s got some potions to help keep you going, let me get your location…” Rek yelped, and Branzy would have winced at the volume but the arrow in his shoulder was taking up all his attention. The footsteps were growing closer still, but he was almost out and the gate was right there. Panting, Branzy reached out and grabbed the edge of it, yanking it shut behind him as he ran through. 

His attacker slammed into the closed gate as Branzy cheered internally. He wasn’t quite sure how he’d managed to pull that off, but he had a few seconds, and as he turned to keep running Branzy desperately fumbled the button Rek was talking about. He let out a muffled shout at the sudden pinch just under the wrist brace before he felt the regeneration and strength flooding into his system.

Branzy was relieved as the boost hit him, dulling the pain in his shoulder and he leapt forward to the fire escape in front of him. He could worry about how the hell Rek had been able to find the time to either make or afford to buy the potions later- now he just needed to get the heck out of dodge. Scrambling up the fire escape, Branzy had barely made it to the roof when his pursuer shouted.

“You won’t be getting away that easily, you know?

Hi hey hello welcome to the Wishing Well AU, where we ask questions like “hey so what if Mango dug up an eldritch horror in his backyard and also the horror revived his dead son at a terribly high cost?” Purple is involved, for some reason. Can I ask a potentially silly question?: as someone who hasn’t been able to get through the silm yet (despite my valiant efforts), why is Russingon such a popular ship? No shade to the ship at all, I just literally don’t know what it is or what makes it so common (canon interactions I’m assuming?) and I figured you be able to help me given the on enjoyment of Russingon and your knowledge of the lore

Ohhh I'm late to this but I can give you the short answer and the longer answer.

Short answer is doomed romeo-and-juliet-esque romance is very juicy and makes ship brains go brrr. Maedhros being the firstborn of Feanor and Fingon being the firstborn of Fingolfin means that there's just a lot of potential there for "our dads are fighting and disapprove of us but we're still going to be friends/lovers because fuck what anyone else says" and that's just...hngg. And of course then there's the whole sailing to Beleriand & the Oath and Angband and Fingon's death...

But in any case. The long answer is that they're really really close in the text.

 “Long before, in the bliss of Valinor, before Melkor was unchained, or lies came between them, Fingon had been close in friendship with Maedhros; and though he knew not yet that Maedhros had not forgotten him at the burning of the ships, the thought of their ancient friendship stung his heart.” (The Silmarillion, Of the Return of the Noldor, p. 124)

It's Fingon who rescues Maedhros from his torment in Angband, and as the text goes: “Thus he rescued his friend of old from torment, and their love was renewed; and the hatred between the houses of Fingolfin and Fëanor was assuaged.”

And while I'm not saying this makes them canon, I think it's very interesting that Tolkien inserted a new subheading for this story of Fingon’s rescue of Maedhros from Thangorodrim: “Of Fingon and Maedros” (HoME XI, Later Quenta Silmarillion, p. 177.), which is very similar to three other titles in the Silmarillion: “Of Aulë and Yavanna”, “Of Thingol and Melian”, “Of Beren and Lúthien” all of whom are married couples.

And that doesn't even take into account the fact that Maedhros and Fingon have a tight alliance when Fingon becomes high king, and that they pretty much rule together. And beyond that, Maedhros and Fingon exchange a LOT of gifts, which from LaCE is a bit of a romantic gesture.

Maedhros and Fingon also share two motifs with Beren and Luthien and Aragorn and Arwen. Like Beren and Luthien, Maedhros and Fingon have a rescue that involves Song (fun to note that Sam and Frodo are an echo of this as well). And post Fingon's death, Maedhros goes to dwell in his grief on the hill of Amon Ereb. Post Aragorn's death, Arwen goes and dies on a hill.

I don't think Tolkien intended for them to read this way any more than I think he intended for Sam and Frodo or Legolas and Gimli or Turin and Beleg to read the way they do, but it's a popular ship because the text tells us over and over that they're extremely close and gives us a lot of ... uh... interactions and parallels which are just ripe ground for romantic ship material.

And yeah, height difference and doomed romance make ship brain go brr.

First, all Kaeya's star imagery and also I like to think Diluc came home bc he physically couldn't stay away any longer. I don't care if it isn't canon, this is my delusion and ur all here for the ride<3

This love, it is a burning sun Shining light on the things that we've done

Now this is Diluc's side, what with him being the sun of the two (but not in the soft, cheery sunshine way; in the passionate scalding all-consuming way. Yall know the post). The second line can either reference That Night (if ya wanna be fuckin sad about it) or it can be about their growth, how they eventually realize they're both at fault for the state of their relationship.

Once again emphasizing how they're not helping their situation. Mainly this made me think of that one event with the letters and then how a lot of their early interactions are just them saying whatever to do the most damage. LIKE BRO THEIR INTERACTION IN VENTI'S STORY QUEST KILLED MEEEE but that's a post for another day. If this were an animatic, the wind part is where I imagine like- Diluc and Kaeya pass each other and one of them turns around but the lineart then like collapses into lines of wind and then it cuts to Venti who looks sad bc 'My children r stupid'.

Could these walls come crumbling down? I want to feel my feet on the ground And leave behind this prison we share Step into the open air

This is them trying to take the first steps towards reconciliation, if they can move on from their past that seems to be hurting the both of them, if they can clear the air so to speak (pun very much intended).

How did we let it come to this? What we've just tasted, we somehow still miss How will it feel when this day is done And can we keep what we've only begun?

Now this is timeskip, like mid-reconciliation. Things are good but there's still an awkward tension between them, like they're walking on eggshells. They want to get past this but they're afraid of hurting each other again and of going back to that place where they were strangers.

And now these walls come crumbling down And I can feel my feet on the ground Can we carry this love that we share? Into the open air

It all comes full circle. It was a hard road. They probably end up fighting several times over the course of it. But they make it. I very much think their official reconciliation moment should happen in the rain bc cyclical narratives go brrr.

Brrr! | Phantom & Swiss x Mountain

Author’s Note: thank you to @copiasjuicebox for the phantom propaganda so i've been thinking about the new bug so much lately also thank you for encouraging me to post this &lt;3 my personal headcanon is that phantom was mostly nonverbal when they were first summoned but after getting more comfortable and confident they become a little talkative bouncy ball of energy. this is set not too long after they first got out of the pit! also copiasjuicebox mentioned the idea of phantom being more like swiss and mountain's adopted kit rather than a ot3 and im in love with that so i wrote this with that hc in mind.

Phantom is introduced to snow for the very first time, much to Swiss and Mountain's amusement.

The first time Phantom is introduced to snow, Mountain and Swiss watch them go crosseyed trying to catch a glimpse of the little cold flecks that tickled their nose. “Brrr,” they trill, nose scrunching and tail flicking curiously.

“Mhm, it’s cold huh?” Mountain hums. He and Swiss hang back a little, letting their little bug explore and discover for themselves. They've been trying to introduce them to more and more things lately, and it was always heartwarming to see them so excited and bouncy over normally mundane things.

“Brrr!” Phantom repeats back in agreement when another ice crystal decides to perch on their nose again, and closes their eyes so they can tilt their head back against their shoulders to the night sky. 

The ministry is surprisingly quiet tonight, the courtyard empty save for a few passing souls. The weather has definitely dipped since the sun had gone down to give way to winter’s first snowfall. A gentle blanket covering the Abby. In the morning there was sure to be many siblings-in-sin and ghouls alike bundled up and playing in the snow.

Phantom's face is cold, all the way from the tips of their ears to their toes. They had run out barefoot at the first sign of soft white confetti, making little mmrs at Swiss and Mountain, pointing with inquisitive peeps. 

“That’s snow, little one.” Swiss laughs, finding the younger ghoul’s awed expressions endearing.

“Snow?” Phantom echoes, tail curling in excitement. They open their eyes again and are met with what feels like love. Fluttering snowflakes swirling in the night sky. Their breaths forming little puffs of air to their delight. 

“Pfffff!” They make little noises as they begin to huff out more breaths, giggling when it hangs in the air in miniature clouds. They don’t particularly understand what’s happening but it’s so fun! 

Phantom chases around a few snowflakes, trying to get them to land on their tongue and making little mmrs of pride and excitement whenever they succeed. It’s not until their ears and nose begin turning a little too red for comfort that Swiss and Mountain intervene. 

“Come on, let’s get you inside before you watch a cold, yeah?” Phantom whines, high pitched and sulky and Swiss laughs. “I know it’s fun but we don’t want you to get sick. We can come back in the morning. If you get sick, you’d have to wait to get better before playing again— you don’t want that do you?”

Phantoms eyes go wide at the prospect of being kept away from snow for so long and shakes their head. “Snow!” They protest. 

“It’ll still be there in the morning, petal.” Mountain rumbles, before offering his hand. “Besides, we can’t try hot chocolate all the way out here now, can we?” His eyes meet Swiss’s with a twinkle before settling back on Phantom, who’s little curious mind has already latched onto the Next New Fun Thing. 

“Chocolate!” Phantom knew what that one was! It was very yummy and sweet and made them super hyper after if they had too much. They eagerly took Mountains hand; his was so much bigger than theirs it practically swallowed their hand but it was warm and reassuring. Phantom’s tail swishing wildly with excitement, the three of them retreated inside.

WARNING FOR SPOILERS FOR THE GHOST MOVIE “RITE HERE RITE NOW”

Okay so, the thing at the beginning with saltarian was super cool. was kinda a jumpscare to see his face on the big big screen but it helped me stop disassociating and realize “holy shit im seeing the ghost movie”. Btw!! shoutout to my brother for taking me to go see it since my super religious parents would never take me. anyways uhm it was fucking awesome!! seeing all the ghouls in high detail kinda sparked my ghost hyperfixation again (it never left, just got very, VERY, weak.) i got to see my silly phantom and aurora and all the silly ghouls again and i was stimming very much. the theater was almost empty!! it was shocking how little people there was. I went with my brother and a mutual friend and we were the only ones in our row with small groups spread around us. Since this is my rant and i dont have any rules im gonna rip the bandaid off. i am so glad copia didnt and will HOPEFULLY keep being a reoccurring character as lead of the clergy. im a little upset about the cliffhanger of the new papa but i get it. ALSO,,, COSMO TALKED?? “Arent we gonna do a encore?” EXCUSE ME?? i was so so shocked. The misleading of death and new beginnings was also amazingly portrayed. i am going to miss the character of sister imperator but she had a good run. The show of Her, Papa copia (Father imperator🙏🙏), and Papa nihil being a family and all of then talking warmed my heart. totally didnt cry at that. WHAT DID MAKE ME CRY WAS IF YOU HAVE GHOST!! god the way they did that song and that whole scene tbh was just amazing. i cried a bit and was so touched by that song. The ghoulettes were amazing and i hope this isnt the last we see of them, but i get it if this is it. The singing ghoulete was amazing, she had a truely beautiful voice and make me get the chills a few times. The ones behind the instruments were just as good if not better. they all did great but i applaud the ones playing for being able to focus and play the entire time. The new song(god talk about quick changes) Was AMAZING!! i was up when it dropped and it has already been added to all my playlists. The credits with the song and the meaning of the song touch my heart in a way few songs are able to. I saw people on twitter complaining (as people on twitter do..) about certain ghouls not having much screentime, and i will admit that some had more than others, but i dont think its enough to be upset about. at the end of the day it relies on tobias, the camera team, and the ghouls boundaries. The dancers for Dance macabre and twenties was super cool!! kinda spooked me and make me uncomfy in the beginning but i think they did great. what did make me a little uncomfy was the video for year zero.. I am not a very religious person and do not have a label on what i consider myself, but the video was a bit of a jumpscare and was a little scary for me,. although im sure other liked it. I cannot wait for the album to be out and i will be putting on ghost more since the tism go brrr. expect ghost themed media to be posted by me more!! i think thats all but if theres anything else ill make a part 2 when im able to think again.

I try to! On days that I'm too busy to make it in the morning I do so about half an hour before I'm getting to bed. I don't like the feeling of getting back into an unmade bed - it feels like a completely unproductive day and that just throws me off

I don't really have a favourite but I love multiples of 7, they make my brain go brrr

what is your job?

Photography! It's something I always wanted to do as a child but gave up on as an unrealistic dream before eventually sort of stumbling into it. Happy accidents and all that.

if you could go back to school, would you?

Hah! No chance. I burnt myself out pretty badly through undergrad by taking on far too much - there were just so many things that I found interesting - and I'd much rather not repeat that experience.

can you parallel park?

I can't drive. I keep meaning to learn but the way people drive freaks me out a little too much. I've also been struggling with a bout of motion sickness recently and that doesn't help my comfort in cars. Someday though! Hopefully!

a job you had that would surprise people?

I worked on editing and post production on a documentary for National Geographic once

do you think aliens are real?

In what form, I'm not sure. But some forms of life that exist outside of our planet? Absolutely. My other answer, channeling the 12 years I've spent on this hellsite: doooweeeewoooooo

can you drive a manual car?

If/when I do finally learn to drive I'm going to make it a point to learn manual too. Idk, feels like an important skill to have

I make it a point not too feel guilty or embarrassed about my interests. If I started doing that far too many things I like would qualify and I just cannot live like that

tattoos?

I wish :( I have a bunch of small tattoos I've always wanted but I have a medical condition because of which I can't get any.

favourite colour?

It changes every so often but I'm particularly biased towards shades of teal right now.

favourite type of music?

I love rock of the general/alt/post/punk variety. Recently I've been listening to a goth-folk band called Charming Disaster and have been a little bit obsessed with their album Our Lady of Radium and especially Radium Girls

do you like puzzles?

Love love love puzzles of any kind. I just like having lil things for my brain to do.

any phobias?

I have a little bit of a phobia of falling off of high places which unfortunately comes from a close call during a hike where I slipped off a steep rock and almost into a sweeping rapids (luckily I ended up slipping sideways into a little pool in a gap between said rock and another big one... took a while to pull my short ass out of there but at least I wasn't being swept away!)

favourite childhood sport?

I was a sporty child, tried my hand at just about most sports. My go to was basketball for a while (though I don't play anymore) but now I'm more inclined to go for a swim or a bout of kickboxing, sometimes badminton. Funny story: over the course of a year I got hit in the nose with 4 different kinds of balls (not that kind!). My nose is fine but I was paranoid around sports grounds for a while after that 😂

do you talk to yourself?

All the time! It honestly helps me keep track of a lot of things, especially when I'm overwhelmed but it's a little funny when my everyday running commentary comes out in front of people. It gets me a lot of strange looks, especially when I ask everyday objects what they think they're doing

what movies do you adore?

Depends on the day you ask. I tried answering this 5 different times but each time I came up with 5 different movies to list out. I really could not pick for this one

Coffee! Far, far too much of it!

first thing you wanted to be growing up?

An astronaut. It took me far too long to give up on that pipe dream. But around the time I gave up on that I was getting interested in photography as something to pursue. I was bullied out of it for a few years sadly but hey, I ended up here eventually!

And like both Tel and Lin mentioned, I've been far too busy to be on tumblr too much recently (most of 2024) and so a lot of stuff I've been tagged in has slipped through the cracks. Most of it is in my drafts somewhere and sometimes it just feels too late to bring it back. I still love all of you though and I'm sorry!
