ugh i do have one more drama bomb for the worst case scenario that is the thing that will actually piss everyone off more than anything else, like the final ick, and thats all to do with like.....ok i said no one is coping well at all right. everyones having trauma sex dreams? about the worst fucking shit in the world? nobodies coped with that well.

I’m hoping by now we can understand the nuances of this situation. that this is only happening because the characters have been through the most horrible thing imaginable together. please try to be understanding of that.

leo and raph have just done something stupid to cope. something thats their choice as a one time thing to get the trauma of the assault and loss of bodily autonomy out of their heads. they do something they consent to. its not a choice they made lightly, its something theyre really ashamed thinking is a good idea. but they decided 'hey. i think I need to choose to be stupid, and i think you have the same idea, cuz at least we can both choose to be stupid together. stupid fucking teenagers who can regret their own choices instead of his, and dad has no say in it. and if he has no say he has no power over us, he doesn’t control us, and i can look at you without thinking of him.'

and then it literally does turn their nightmares around. and they can literally laugh in his nightmare face about it.

and then they go to therapy about it. to make sure theyre okay about it, and they actually seem to be. and i think they actually are. thats why its extra fucked up that they now know big mama took advantage of them. because they thought maybe it was okay after speaking to her and now they have no idea. and theyre pretty ashamed, leo in particular. but also like... it did actually get the cage dreams to stop for them. but that’s why leo got so high, cuz he thinks he finally felt ok and THEN he was proven right when they learn about the egg napping. and now he thinks he’s fucked everything up worse by ever thinking what they did was okay.

thats when the fucking kids show up to talk.

is everybody.... hhhhhhhh is everybody okay with that. cuz this is genuinely the final missing piece I’m overly censoring the snippets I’m posting about because its happened in the background. but I’m genuinely hoping that since this whole thing is fucked enough already that these little nuances can be respected. its not a thing they're ever doing again. its a thing they did to feel like fucking dumbass teenagers instead of mindless fucking traumatized animals who are trying to raise their little brothers on their own right now.

It's in the middle of an Unspecified Important Meeting with Thomathy(tm), and Remus sees his sleepy Sling & just S C O O P S him up and sinks with him in his arms. Everyone else is like "what" and Thomas is just Confused. But hey, Remus just takes Virgil to uhh... let's say it's Virgil's room since um, ignoring canonical Virgil's Room Affects People in an Anxious Way. It's fine. Canon can shush for a moment, lmao.

ANYWAY: Sleepy Boi is a bit confused, but snuggles into the warmth of the Duke carrying him. Remus' slimy heart melts at that bc he's so adorable, oh no, he's too gay for this shit, skdfsjdfj- yeah. He lays Virgil down and puts a blanket over him, but then Sleepy Spiderling won't let go, he has a very strong grip on Octo Boi. Remus is like "welp might as well" and snuggles into with Virgil and they cuddle and fall asleep.

honestly i think the main problem with that show is that it’s built for you to care only about the two mains but every supporting actor made their characters so interesting it almost became an ensemble deal. i wish it were more like goblin where the five “main characters” all got fairer endings so no matter who your fave was, you couldn’t be that mad. totnt imitated enough of goblin, they could have done this too.

also go seung-tak is STEALING MY HEART WHY IS HE SO FLUFFY. i want to kiss whoever gave him that short permed hair hhhhhhhh. i’m enjoying the plot but the other characters are pretty dull imo (except for young-min, rain is a pretty decent actor to my surprise). maybe i just need to let it grow on me.

Interestingly, Goblin was my first LDW drama and the one that got me obsessed with him, whereas TOTNT put me out of love with him. IMO, it was partly the way Yeon’s character was written in season 1 - his sole purpose in life was Jia - and that began to get on my nerves after a few episodes, and partly it was his acting. I got the feeling he too got bored of it after a while and sleepwalked thorough the second half of the show. Whereas in season 2, he was a delight to watch, though I have a lot of complaints about his character in 1938 as well. But he was a lot better than in the first season.

Go seung-tak is an absolute delight to watch. he’s a fluffy ball of fur, but there are layers to his personality that are uncovered as we proceed further into the show. That’s where Beom gives us his best (as usual). As for the other characters, I didn’t care much for the ladies - se-jin was an absolute bore. They could’ve cut down some of her crying time and given it to Young-tak scenes. I was mighty pissed about how she and Young-min treat poor Seung-tak - I’ll reserve discussion on that until you finish. Nothing much to write about characters other than the leading men - though I liked Tess and the 3 coma ghosts.

I haven’t resumed TWTWB yet. I was referring to angel Gook-soo from Padam Padam. He’s adorable and effervescent and Beom’s dimples, of course, always bring a smile to my face. In fact, my major disappointment with Hidden identity was, though he was hot and did his character full justice, we never got to see those gorgeous dimples 😀

I loved him in the woman who still wants to marry. He’s the ultimate romantic in that one - you should see the way he woos the woman he loves!

BTW, any idea about Dream? I’ve heard it’s bad but is it that terrible? I’m also interested in checking out Psychometry.

HHHHHHHH IM VIBRATING EXCITEDLY THIS IS SUCH A CUTE IDEA, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!

ok. so. It’s very hard to pick an ULTIMATE fave trope buuuuut a very strong contender for the title is time travel fics. More specifically, time LOOP fics. (What can I say, Doctor Who had some significant effects on my preteen brain chemistry.) I love a good time loop fic because it lets you hit a lot of my favourite things all in one: timey wimey nonsense, getting to Fix whatever canon bullshit you need to, having all these little character moments where you can explore different dynamics and do character studies - especially if people other than the looping character start to change/remember things as the loops go on??? MAN. I EAT THAT SHIT UP. Also the potential for calling back to previous events or repeating an event with a subtle twist to it each time, it’s suuuuuuch good shit. I also find stories about the importance of trying - even when it’s difficult, even when you don’t want to anymore, even when it may not actually change anything - really resonate with me. Which is major time loop vibes, yknow? I am a certified Time Loop Enjoyer™.

I know there’s a lot of good time loop fics out there in the ST fandom (especially steddie fandom), which, duh, Steve and Eddie and the events of season 4 are practically BUILT for a time loop. Because of that (and because the fic I really wanna rec for this trope is A Lot and Not For Everyone), I’m going to rec TWO time loop fics for you.

1: echo by CaptainHoney (~30k words, rated E)

Warning - READ THE GODDAMN TAGS. CHECK THE ARCHIVE WARNINGS. I AM NOT KIDDING. This fic starts out going full tilt balls-to-the-walls and it does not stop once. It’s emotionally intense (lots of angst), the events of the fic are intense, it’s a heavier take on time loops than a lot of other fics in this fandom, and you Will feel like you’ve been put through an emotional blender by the end. But there is a happy ending (I’m a sucker for happy endings, I can’t read anything more than ~5k without one), and like I mentioned above this is a story about Trying. Trying even when it’s hard, even when you don’t want to anymore, is such a powerful story theme for me and I really like the way it’s explored in echo. Plus, it’s a love story of course, and a damn fucking good one - both the love between Eddie & Steve, and the love their whole extended found family have for each other.

ALSO. I’m a feral creature for fun narrative choices and echo is told both non-linearly AND from multiple POVs (don’t let that scare you, it’s always really clear who and when we’re dealing with. You’ll see if you read the fic). It’s absolutely fucking delicious. I don’t see this fic talked about much (literally ever, actually) and I think that’s a SHAME. That being said, I do recognise this fic is Very intense and not for everyone, which is perfectly fine! Take care of yourselves, and don’t read something that you’re worried might put you in a bad spot mentally just because I’m hyping it up here. 💙

2: you are young and life is long (and there is time to kill today) by heartofwinterfell (~70k, rated M)

This is a fun one. This is technically a series, with the first fic being ~18k from Eddie’s POV as he goes through the loops, and the second is ~52k from Steve’s POV as he lives in the time loop without knowing it’s a time loop. Yeah. I really love that perspective, you don’t often see a time loop fic from the perspective of the other character, and it’s done really well here. PLUS the second chapter of Steve’s fic goes into time loop aftermath and recovery, which is one of my favourite things to explore that often doesn’t get addressed in great detail.

walker is finally present in-story and in isaac's plot

thomas is full rev in his own subplot and characters (he's about to become a single father while trying desperately to woo a not-so-silver fox)

the mark & viv relationship is very painful

the viv/dana is EVEN GAYER. but. dana has nightmares. :c i'm sure this will be fine tho

chris is gonna take two levels in badass in this book and it's not even close to her final form

emil only gets one level in badass. i don't think he gets That Spell in this book. i'm not sure we can handle him having That Spell in too many books.

sam remains the goodest bean even as he peels back the curtain on isaac's motivations and finds himself agreeing with most of them.

isaac begins his villain domestication arc because the universe just wants him to be social. unfortunately, it doesn't go extremely well. the power of friendship can't fix everything!

i don't have a nosebleed count right now but obviously there should be more

do you like hammond and rory pain? you're in luck! they get bumped up a couple levels in plot relevance after their field trip to the dreamlands last book. and it's all pain! gay pain! congrats on unlocking this for them.

we'll finally meet caoimhe in person. not sure about her husband just yet. still minor but i think she and dante are gonna be the minor characters i fall horribly in love with for this project...

we'll also get to meet [REDACTED]! (hint: the book ends in a certain warehouse.) i'm very very excited. they get to be sporadically present until the big reveal at the climax, too!

other characters i'm excited about: a certain invisible stalker, who gets bumped up in appearance order for thomas' subplot. that character is one of the most changed in role and personality and i'm excited for her!
