xander told me hy wanted to see sera drawn right so here i am with a small doodle of her (and an emily i didnt really think about but there was empty space on the canvas). tangent abt racism under the cut.

im not a poc but i just wanna reassert what others have said that, yes, some people do indeed have an ashy skin tone, but the fact viv has a pattern of ONLY giving her poc characters ashy skin tones fucking blows...

also, something that might be more subtle, is that there is no fucking way to get around the fact that of the two black characters the one who had her hair straightened and was given a lighter skin tone was the less morally compromised one... blackness on a subconscious level here has been associated with immorality, as well as associating black features with maturity which is something that is unfairly projected on a lot of black youth. im white so im not immune to flaws in my poc designs, but if i were to have one of the characters show more mixed ethnic features i would NOT have made sera the one who was darker skinned and had textured hair.

that being said, i do love sera's hair. it's such a beautiful design! wish that the hair had just a touch more detail though since, yeah, i do think they're meant to be dreadlocks or wicks but they're being misinterpreted as ringlets instead. and ofc black people can have ringlets, but you do have to keep in mind how that style will look different on straight hair than hair that's differently textured.

so sorry about the preaching but yeah idk maybe this will matter to someone.
