AU where the justice league finds out that Captain Marvel is homeless. Not Billy, they still have no idea about the captain's secret identity, but the Captain.

Maybe they were discussing a case or something, and he says something that is just a little too knowledgeable. Something only someone who has been there would know. He tries to backtrack when he realizes that he said too much, tries to explain that getting a job and an apartment is hard when you do hero work which doesn't pay (and hopes they don't find out the real reason he can't get a job is because no one will hire a kid).

The league comes to the conclusion the reason he is so secretive about his identity is because he is ashamed he is homeless. Naturally, everyone immediately feels super bad about this and tries to help him much to his dismay.

Identity shenanigans ensue.

They clean up together, a routine as easy as the cooking was. It's warm, in the kitchen. Eddie's got the window over the sink cracked open enough for a breeze, and the night sounds outside. Traffic, mostly, but Eddie insists there's an owl nesting somewhere between his backyard and the neighbor's. Buck hasn't heard it yet, but he believes Eddie, because he always does.

"It's so warm," he says, turning to take the next pan or dish that Eddie is about to hand him, but when he turns, Eddie has gone still, one hand still in the soapy water, head cocked like he's listening to something. "Eddie?"

"Yeah," Eddie says, with a strange jolt, almost a flinch, like he's trying to shrug something off. He shakes his head a couple of times. His cheeks are flushed. "Sorry, I—yeah. It's been hot this week."

It hasn't been, or at least it wasn't when Buck came in earlier. Late fall in L.A. isn't exactly crisp, but the worst of the heat has faded. Probably it's just kitchen heat, the cooktop, the hot water in the sink.

Eddie's hair is curling just a little at his temples. There's a faint sheen of sweat on his upper lip. Buck jerks his eyes away and shakes his head. "Yeah," he says, barely aware of what he's agreeing with. "Yeah, it, uh, it has been."

Eddie moves, then, sinking his hands into the water and coming away with the last pan, which he rinses and hands to Buck to dry. Their fingers brush as Buck takes it, and that brief contact sends a jolt through him that's not unlike being struck by lightning, skin buzzing painlessly in its wake.

The pan slips out of his fingers to land with a clang in the drain, and Eddie draws a quick, sharp breath.

One of my favorite subtle details in Epic is how, at the start of Wouldn't You Like, you would expect Odysseus to be on his absolute highest guard after all the unexpected hardships throughout the trip and the conversation he just had with Eury. And yet when a mysterious voice from the trees says "I must say, what a brilliant speech you gave," you can practically HEAR the smirk in Odysseus's voice as he asks "who goes there?"

Have a little something from LA Lonely -> this is after the fun and orgasms of Buck and Eddie’s hook up. Still don’t know if I’m going to go full spice 🌶️ or just do a quick little run down of things.

Buck expects him to start pulling his clothes on and to give him the whole “this was fun, but I gotta bounce” speel, but Eddie surprises him by climbing back into bed and nudging Buck to roll onto his side so Eddie can scoot up behind him and hold him.

Buck freezes for a moment because no one does this. They have their fun and then they leave. They don’t stay and they definitely don’t cuddle.

Eddie must feel him go tense because his hold loosens and he moves as if he’s about to pull away. “Is this okay?”

Buck grabs at the arms that are wrapped around him, stopping Eddie’s descent. “Y-yeah. It’s-it’s okay.” He pulls at Eddie’s arms and the man settles back behind him, burrowing his face into the juncture where Buck’s neck meets his shoulder as he shuffles closer.

Soft kisses are pressed into his skin and Buck is helpless but to relax back into Eddie, letting the comfort and warmth of whatever is happening wrap around him.

“Stay?” He whispers, not sure if Eddie can hear him but not being brave enough to say it any louder. He feels like he’s asking too much.

A kiss behind his ear. “Okay.”
