#joe ramirez#joseph ramirez#band of brothers#rene l. moreno#mine: gifs#hispanic heritage month#latino heritage month#sources vary on whether he was a Private or PFC#they seem to have taken A LOT of creative liberties on the show bc#the only 2 anecdotes about him in BoB seem pretty diff from his character on-screen#not to mention that he would've been in the hospital during events of episodes 8 and 10 (each of which he's in several scenes)#on the other hand i do really like his character in the show and think he's one of the best and most underrated background characters#and why yes i am completely normal about him 😅#but also i'm sure he would've been great too if they'd made him more accurate to what limited info exists about the IRL guy#I forgot to save a few of the documents that bleedingcoffee42 sent me unfortunately but these are most of them!#but from one of them (his draft card?) i discovered he lived like 1.5 miles from my grandparents!!#(tho of course they moved there in the 50s so who knows if he was still living at same address by then... but still!)#oops i originally had the episodes he's in listed wrong on this#so AFAIK he's only NOT in eps 2 and 9#in ep 1 he's twirling a knife at the beginning and eating spaghetti next to Guarnere and Malarkey and playing basketball in England#in ep 6 he's eating the bean soup near the line when Sink arrives#in 7 he's sitting next to popeye and then in the church at the end (maybe in Foy but i'm not positive)#in ep 3 i thiiiink he's in Carentan next to Buck? and he's at the party in England sitting next to Lipton and listening to Gordon#in 4 he's in too many scenes to list here#in 8 he's in too many to list#in 10 he's hunting for food with the group and standing next to Grant's shooter when Speirs comes in the room

Soul (also referred to as Two Soul or Du/Bisoul)
Tumblr media
digital recreation by this user.
Soul is a pan-african identity that revolves around distinct black and african american experiences where one’s identity is made up of two warring souls, the gender and the body.
From the creator, "my cognition (...) is male and is acting upon my female body (...) finding a way for them to just coexist is my personal gender journey in a lot of ways (...) I feel like i want to learn to live in her, I feel like I am in her, but I am he."
He refers to the gender while Her refers to the body, both being separate souls that exists within the identity.
Soul in this case can be described deeper by examining how black people are denied gender roles due to being black and being classified as hyper-masculine. Soul is the accumulation of experiences of both gender and blackness that intertwine and create complex considerations when questioning and living as a transgender person. Soul is the creation of black roles that do not conform to the binary and do not establish a patriarchy or matriarchy.
Pinkparthenon says that his gender is being a black trans man, but his body is a black woman, and he has no ambition to "fight being female". He states that he might be masculinizing himself because he is black and not because he is a man, but confirms in a later video that he is a trans man of Soul, and that the two halves of the identity are influenced heavily by blackness.
When describing it further, he says "You are not America, you are the black person. America acts upon you in such a way it almost is you in some ways," (vice versa) which may mean that Soul, in addition to meaning that you are two halves, can mean that you are the black body and your gender acts upon your body.
Tumblr media
my rendition of the flag.
Soul as a term originated from a personal therapy session Pinkparthenon had, inspired by a quote from W.E.B Dubois' book called The Souls of Black Folk, and realized with the connection to Soul music and Soul food.
The language tied to Soul is Black English (or African American English), and people of Soul have experiences with code switching which sometimes feels as though they are othered by people who do not understand them - futhering themselves from the aspects of western gender.
When referring to someone who is "of Soul" and mentioning the identity, Soul as an identity will always be capitalized. Someone can also be Soul, and does not have to adhere to the convention of saying "blank of Soul". Other terms like Soul sib, Soul sista, Soul brotha, or Soul man/woman, are used as descriptors alongside Soul.

I’m so tired of just being “African American”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When I really think about it, I’m so tired of it. When people think about African Americans— even when African Americans think about ourselves, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? Slavery. Discrimination. Pain. Endurance. Why do WE have the be the face of pain? Our people’s culture is NOT pain. Our culture is NOT slavery. Our culture is NOT just rebellion. Our culture is NOT facing racism. We are so much more than that. When you learn about African Americans it’s never about our music, our inventions, our food, our style, our way of life. It’s always about being at the end of the stick. We were never taught the BEAUTY of African Americans. Only the worse. I know because of what we experienced, IS a big part of our culture, but come on. Social injustice isn’t the only thing we consist of. Like I said, I know it’s important to be taught. Im just tired of always the “inferiority” being taught about us and not anything else’s beyond that.
I also feel like that’s part of a reason why people are so comfortable with just constantly taking from us. Taking from our culture. Because point one, they’re ignorant. And point two all there really is to “African Americans” if slavery and discrimination.
Who are we? Who are African Americans outside of just being the face of social injustice. The short end of the stick. I know some people may make a face while reading this, but it’s just how I feel. I am proud of my people and proud of what we fought for. How we did it. And how far we have come. It’s understanding of, if you’re African American, who are you to yourself? Who are your people to you? And if you’re not African American it’s an understanding of who are we to you? And on neither side, should it just be the face of injustice.
- I dare to mention that I’m a little bit afraid how people may feel about this. But I only hope to find people who agree, and perhaps even put a thought or two in the heads of the ones that don’t.

Headcanon that Callisto has a thing for spicy food, and his spice tolerance is very high
He can bite into one of those super spicy peppers as if it were an apple and go about his day as nothing happened
Callisto is that one person that when eating spicy food, complains about it not being spicy enough while everyone else is sweating profusely with tears streaming down their face because the spices are too much
He’s smug about it too: “Oh? It was supposed to be spicy? I didn’t notice.” *mocking laugh*
Penelope side-eyes him hard because while she does enjoy spices, she can’t handle them to the same degree or even as close as Callisto, and he so teases her about it: “What’s wrong Princess? I thought that you’d have a better time dealing with spices seeing as you handle with me so well.”
(Spoiler—she kicks him in the shin for it)

yesterday i went to make chimichurri - specifically, my Argentine father's recipe - and discovered, to my great dismay, that I'd forgotten to buy fresh parsley, which is the main ingredient of chimichurri. i collapsed to the floor in dramatic despair, hand cast over my arm, when my roommate, my dear, sweet, extremely white roommate, asked "can't you just use dried parsley?"
in that moment I felt the pain an italian man feels when you break the spaghetti noodles in half. the dismay a polish person feels at beholding a store-bought paczki. the absolute indignance of a frenchman tasting hershey's for the first time and wondering how any sane person could possibly call it chocolate.
FRESH PARSLEY IS THE POINT, i shouted, you uncultured ninny i politely held back. YOU CANNOT SIMPLY REPLACE FRESH PARSLEY. it is what chimichurri IS!!! the chopping and crushing of the leaves and the mingling of its juices and aroma with the garlic and the vinaigrette is what makes it! there is nothing in dried parsley to CRUSH!!!!!
'what if you just mixed other herbs with garlic?' they supplied. 'and then you can still have some kind of sauce thing.'
my rage evaporated into blank apathy. they did not get it. they do not understand. a margherita pizza is not made with parmesan and mint leaves. chicken noodle soup is not made with pork tenderloin. a scrambled egg is not made by boiling it. how can i possibly make them understand when they have fallen so far from grace.
i will buy parsley tomorrow, i said. then you will see. then you will taste and smell. then you will understand.
chimichurri marinades in the fridge as i write this. i do not know if they will like it. may my ancestors give me strength

as a resident bagel lover and therefore bagel expert, here is how the party eats their bagels. i'm right.
mike: toasted plain bagel with plain cream cheese. he likes what he likes even if it's basic. probably doesn't eat bagels that often but when he does he savors them.
lucas: toasted everything bagel with plain cream cheese. can be persuaded to have chive and onion cream cheese instead on occasion. max wipes the seeds off of his face because they get EVERYWHERE (i eat everything bagels a lot. i promise this is true)
dustin: okay so he's very very meticulous about spreading cream cheese. but the kicker is. he does not actually eat cream cheese on his bagels. he prefers them toasted with butter, which gets him some Looks but it's what he likes and he's happy with it. however, whenever the party (mainly max) is having issues spreading cream cheese, he is always happy to help and proportions the cream cheese EXACTLY RIGHT every time (he's so me)
max: bagel sandwiches all the way!!! egg and cheese on a bagel. sausage egg and cheese on a bagel. tomatoes and veggies and cream cheese on a bagel etc etc. do not make that girl eat open face bagels she WILL kill you
will: LOX EVERYTHING BAGELS (he's so me) with everything on them are his absolute favorite, but since he doesn't always have everything to make them in the house, he's fine w a toasted everything bagel with plain cream cheese and lox :) or just cream cheese. will is the Resident Bagel Enthusiast i think because he is just like me fr
el: untoasted bagels all the way for her (or VERY lightly toasted. but that's pushing it) with strawberry cream cheese. plain or sesame do just fine for this, but she also does like to indulge in the occasional cinnamon raisin bagel + strawberry cream cheese. she is the Resident Strawberry Cream Cheese Enthusiast. she loves it a lot

truthfully i do think marvel offices sometimes forget (or perhaps choose to forget) that ororo is a black woman. she is the most prominent black female superhero of all time and has been such for decades, and yet, i feel like that part of her is ignored, which is strange considering how intersectionality is an incredibly significant theme for her as a character. she has appeared in thousands of stories but only a handful really try to engage with her heritage and how being a black woman in addition to being a mutant informs her worldview. i am on my hands and knees asking for more of that! and, to be clear, the last thing i want is to see her be hit with anti-blackness and misogynoir because 1) that is not the only way to engage with her identity (and very low on the list of ways to do so), and 2) being a black woman is so much more than the oppression we face and experience.

Honestly it was a pretty brilliant move on Chris and Will's part as to have Revelator come out while Will is on tour, because it a) saves Chris from having to do ten thousand solo episodes in a row, and b) HELLLL YEAHHH REVELATOR SEASON 1 LET'S GO!!!
