ykw actually? the obsession with sources that are "appropriate" for use in academic spaces is just an excuse to devalue non-dominant knowledges/wisdom/forms of knowing and also a way to prevent us from accurately analysing phenomena we know are real.
it's a way of controlling what we can talk and learn about, and how we talk and learn about it. it's a way of ensuring that The Academy can still dictate the language we have to use, the information we can share, and the ways we can share it. i fucking hate it.
#eso speaks#i'm writing an essay and i'm mad#we're seeing this a lot around the Palestinian genocide at my university rn#they changed their inclusion policy to claim that criticising israel is antisemetic and are blackballing scholars who try to speak out#including threatening to take away scholarships#fellowships#etc#esp from Palestinian students and scholars who can't afford to lose their place bc then they'll get deported#and oh yeah their home is literally having bombs dropped on it#fuck academia#free Palestine

we had a workshop on how to write a specific aims page and i learned so much! i even put myself out there and let other people read my rough draft (that our program had us write prior to the session) to get feedback. the aims page is truly so hard to write; its the selling point of your proposal. looking forward to improving my grant writing skills this year :))

To all y'all who aren't yet of age to leave the nest: it'll be worth it in the long run to be picky af about who you'll live with. You're gonna end up at least indirectly involved in each other's personal shit, just due to proximity; and you're gonna have to make sure you each keep your ends of the bargain when it comes to chores, bills, pets or allergens/sensory sensitivities.
It'll be the cause of a lot of fights and eventually resentment if either of you keep falling behind, or if either of you can't mind each other's personal spaces, or aren't careful with each other's belongings, and it'll make you both miserable. It'll make you restless and fatigued all the time if the place you're supposed to be able to relax in becomes a warzone. It's like family in that way, but without the hierarchy or the obligation to at least pretend to get along.
And this applies even between close friends. In fact, living together can jeopardize those relationships if you're not careful. One of my friends is dealing with this right now. The close friendship she used to have with her roommate has not survived cohabitation.
So really, it's okay and, in fact, highly recommended to be picky about the roommates you'll have.
