Big Big Life Update
Hey guys! I've been sitting on this for a while and I'm so happy that I finally get to talk about it! TL;DR - I GOT ACCEPTED INTO MY DREAM SCHOOLLLL
6 years ago, after experiencing acupuncture a few times and having it blow my mind and rock my entire world, I decided that I wanted to study it. After doing some research, I found that one of the best schools in the nation is in Oregon, and I decided on that one.
I set it as a direction, and modeled my entire life around that goal. I saved up enough to move out, moved to Oregon, finished my undergrad, went through their brutal application process - And today I received the formal acceptance letter! Ahhhh fs;lkhjsdfa
The school itself teaches Traditional Chinese Medicine, or TCM. This includes other things in the curriculum besides acupuncture, such as energy-based massage, qigong or tai chi (you already know what I'm going to be picking), Chinese Herbology, and a kick-ass business management program.
I'm enrolling in a dual masters and doctoral program. While it's going to be more work, I'll come out of it with my DACM certification - or Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine.
I'm just. It's so crazy to me that. I set this goal SIX YEARS AGO and... it's now a reality. I've worked through so much, grown so much - hell, I'm a completely different person 2000%. And yet... here I am.
The past... week or so, has been pretty strange for me. I had my final interview with them, which honestly I was really nervous for. But aside from that... I felt an energy shift. I think part of it is that we're transitioning into spring. But the other part is that... I've been feeling like I'm entering into a new chapter in my life, and this really cements that.
So much is going to change for me in the upcoming months. I mean once school starts, I'm going to be moving to a completely different city (and moving in with a partner for the first time!), I'm going to be going back to school, going to be learning completely different material, etc. I'm also going to be changing alot in that time, too. I can feel it.
I already have lol. My practice has actually completely changed in the past month or two, I just haven't really talked about it here. I feel like I say that alot LMAO but this time I really mean it. I think this should be saved for another post, but I'll briefly go over it. First, I was able to figure out how to astral travel and do all my stuff again etc. after my ego death experience. I have two new... guides, I would call them, who have been teaching me and helping me with stuff. I work with a "new" energy and have been spending time working with what I'm pretty sure is the afterlife and helping people cross over. And lastly, I found a book that has COMPLETELY CHANGED how I do energy work and energy healing. It's an incredible incredible book that I think is required reading for energy healers. Again, I'll mention this in another post sometime soon because there is just. So much. I could talk about and share from this book.
Anywho. I think that's it. This has been over a month-long process, and I've been waiting for the past like week to hear the final decision. I'm incredibly happy and grateful, and I'm really excited to be studying TCM. It's going to be really cool, and I'm going to be able to help soo many people.
I hope that everyone has a great night!
Blessings!

Omg I really thought this would be the month I'd beat you to the punch with a check-in but once again time has evaded me & May is, in fact, over in a mere few days 🤥 I think I need to start keeping a physical calendar again to avoid these jumpscares BUT ANYWAY!!! MAY READS!!!! END OF SUCCESSION THOUGHTS!!! WHAT ON EARTH IS IMO GONNA WATCH & READ NEXT!!! 🎤
maybe next month you'll get me.. answering this a lil early so excuse any thoughts that aren't Fully Developed i'll just be away from my laptop and you know how much i love these
may book wrap up
in cold blood by truman capote
i can't remember what i said about this last month. maybe i'm the only person in the world who didn't know this was a "true crime novel" i thought i just picked up a fictional crime genre book. my mistake! general personal thoughts on the gross peversive nature of true crime aside, i think this as investigative journalism (with a questionable bias, fictionalised events, general capote tendecy to lie and gossip) i didn't hate reading it. i could absolutely tell how taken Capote was with Perry Smith in this, he kept coming back to reiterate details about his upbringing and i had to skim parts just because they were of little interest to me. i haven't read anything where the author has managed to so completely remove themselves from their writing like this before. took me a while to read it was a kindle choice and i struggled with reading this month.
podcast: overdue (really enjoyed this podcast set up, actually.) music: red dead redemption 2 soundtrack and this playlist
the piano teacher by elfriede jelinek
unlikable loathsome woman in Austria, this time. really dislike books like this, and this was barely any different. i think Jelinek as an author is neat, i see why she won a nobel peace prize, i'd love to be able to read German to get what was lost in translation. didn't love the story at all here. menacing and gross. what i found most interesting (and hated reading in equal parts) was erica's fucked up relationship with her mother. hate your mother hate the part of her that lives within you, etc etc. i thought this would be sexier, or at least just have more sex like the blurb promised, but other than a few voyeuristic encounters it lacked it completely. sexless and stale. a lot of men dislike this book, though, so if anyone asks then i absolutely loved it.
i read two reviews about this, both with opposing views to my own but interesting to read. music: this soundtrack that almost sent me to sleep. won't be watching the movie
heatwave by victor jestin
it got hot towards the end of last week and i could finally crack open this short little book. i didn't hate it, wasn't blown away by it either. apparently i don't read blurbs - another shock here! i think because these are books that i bought so many months ago when it comes to reading them it's like oh?? well. i was distracted and tanning and drinking gin & tonics whilst reading, and i think this needed more of my attention than i could give. or maybe that's just me being generous.
no links for this one. pending.
i'm currently reading bonjour tristesse by francoise sagan. i've actually finished it but there's two stories in one so i'm on A Certain Smile now. more french books, they're the only books i have set in the summer at the moment. i started reading it on the beach, too.
i bought some new books: season of migration to the north by tayeb smith, the thief's journal by jean genet, my father's diet by adrian nathan west, and diary of a film by niven govinden. i've been reading some really hard books this year (and have bought four more) so i'm gonna switch lanes to some easier reads. the atlas six and nightbitch are probably the easiest of the ones i own at the moment.
AHHHH SUCCESSION.
kendall roy....
i have mixed thoughts about the ending i think it makes perfect sense what went down with the siblings, it doesn't mean that kendall being betrayed hurts me any less. i'm emotionally exhausted after finishing it so i've been watching cooking competitions on netflix. next is the sopranos as my Drama of Choice
also i've been listening to the once upon a time at bennington college podcast you recommended! really enjoying it so far
#book talk#djservo#i didn't know if i'd even finish one book this month tbh#saving my next rachel cusk read for when i really need a pick me up

the problem with constantly getting obsessed with songs and listening to that one song on repeat nothing else for 2 weeks is that fully half of my playlist is made up of these little sound rocket launchers that will forcibly eject me from the present and send me to whenever those 2 weeks were
#and this effect NEVER ENDS#i have listened to some of these songs so much in the years since but it will never overwrite that specific time#made the mistake of putting it on shuffle and have experienced 2 months ago‚ 4 years ago‚ and last year at this time all in the last 10 min#it's so fucking strong too like the first note comes in and boom i can feel the car window on my cheek and smell the slightly cold air#here comes another one from six years ago ahhhh#an e original

omg can u write a second part to that secret rowaelin / aelins birthday party one shot, I NEED to know how that continues.. and maybe another one shot from when they realised that they're not actual just fuckbuddys but in love ahhhh I love this AU and u writing is so GOOD
I’m so glad you like it!! I was planning on writing the Halloween scene, so I feel like this will end up being a small AU maybe? Like I’ll write the main parts of their story? Who knows. But I will definitely post the Halloween scene and the scene from when things changed... For now, here’s how explaining to their friends went
This is the part one. You really need to read it to understand what’s going on in this scene.
Birthday revelations
--
Aelin was frozen.
She was staring wide eyed at all of her friends standing in her living room. Their faces were the picture of astonishment and disbelief. She knew she should go up to them and explain everything but this isn’t how she had planned it out, so she merely snuggled closer to Rowan, his arms tightening around her.
They were so fucked.
“What the actual fuck?” Lysandra said, her voice a mix of perplexity and slight betrayal. “You two… But.. How? When?”
“Aelin, you fucking snake.” Manon said, but Aelin could see the humor gleaming on her eyes and that her smile was genuine. She seemed like the only one not completely pissed. Even Elide looked a little betrayed.
“Bro, you’re banging my cousin?” Aedion’s face contorted with disgust when he looked at Aelin’s bare legs and undoubtedly saw the handprints. Vaughan gave him a slap on the back of his head.
“Aedion, please.” Yrene said, her voice calm but her face a mask of shock as everyone else. “Let them recompose themselves. They obviously weren’t expecting us.”
“What are you all doing here?” Rowan finally said, even though it was obvious what they were doing here.
“What are we doing here? What are you doing here, Rowan?” Fenrys replied, crossing his arms. When Rowan opened his mouth again, Fen raised a hand dramatically. “Don’t answer that truthfully. I don’t want details.”
Aelin’s cheeks were on fire, and Rowan’s arms hugged her a little more tightly.
“Can you guys it down so we can explain?” She said, her voice steady despite how fast her heart was beating.
She didn’t want it to be like this, neither did Rowan. They wanted to sit them all down and explain everything on their terms. Rowan wanted to talk privately with Aedion, and Aelin sure as hell didn’t want Lysandra feeling as if she didn’t trust her. And now they had waited too long and everything went to shit.
Each one of their friends found a place to sit. Manon was sitting on Dorian’s lap, Yrene and Chaol by their side on the sofa. Nehemia and Asterin were on the loveseat, Nehemia’s arm tucking Asterin close. Fenrys and Connall each sat on one of the loveseat’s armrest, Vaughan standing behind Connall.
Lorcan, Gavriel, Sartaq, Nesryn, Borte and Ren took up the chairs by the table. Lorcan pulled a stiff Elide to sit on his lap, whispering something in her ear that made her relax a little.
Lysandra and Aedion remained where they were, arms crossed.
Rowan nudged Aelin forward and they approached everyone. He sat down on an armchair, taking Aelin with him. She could have sworn Aedion flinched at that.
Rowan started to make soothing circles on her thigh, and she held one of his hands with both of hers, sweeping her fingers over his knuckles. Despite it all, Rowan seemed calm. He was lazily leaning on the armchair, completely content to hold his girlfriend on his lap, play with her thigh and tell all of her friends and her cousin how he had been sleeping with her behind their backs.
“So, you guys are banging.” Asterin broke the silence.
Borte snorted. “Obviously. The girl looks like she just got railed, so unless they play some very wild type of boardgames in her room while in the dark, yes, they are banging.”
“Borte, for the love of god.” Nesryn murmured at the same time Sartaq said, “Borte, shut the fuck up.”
Rowan sighed, deeply and suffering. “Yes, we are…”
“Banging.” Nehemia added.
“Can we please stop using the word ‘bang’?” Chaol muttered.
“Pardon.” Nehemia looked at him impatiently. “Fucking, then.”
Chaol rolled his eyes and Aelin couldn’t help but snort.
“How?” Dorian asked, his voice dripping disbelief. After Lys, Dorian was probably the person who heard Aelin complaining about Rowan the most.
Despite herself, Aelin found herself saying, “You want to know how we fuck?”
Rowan, Vaughan, Manon and Asterin were the only ones that laughed.
“I thought you hated each other.” Fen said, his brows furrowing.
“They did. I remember High School junior Aelin running after Rowan with a knife with the full intent of killing him.” Connall looked at his brother. “Unless they’re together since then and that was some type of kink.”
“Please, I don’t want to know Aelin’s kinks.” Ren looked pained.
“Please, I don’t want to know about Rowan’s kinks either.” Lorcan added, but his voice was full of humor. The asshole must have been finding this whole situation hilarious.
“Stop using Aelin, Rowan and kinks in the same sentence for the love of god.” Aedion pleaded.
“Let them explain.” Gavriel, always the voice of reason, interrupted.
“It started on Halloween.” She started only to be then interrupted by Aedion.
“You guys have been together for six months and told no one?” His eyes widened. “Oh my god. It was when I told Lin to stay in the apartment, wasn’t it?”
“Yes, and we haven’t been together for six months.” Aelin could feel Rowan losing his patience as he explained their situation. “We slept together six months ago, but it wasn’t anything important. It was just sex then.”
“But not anymore?” Elide asked, her voice low. Something glinted on her eyes.
“That’s impossible. A relationship between them is unbelievable.” Chaol snorted and Aelin felt Rowan’s hand tightening on her leg.
“No.” Aelin shrugged, losing her patience just like Rowan. She could understand them feeling hurt because neither Aelin nor Rowan had told them anything, but acting like her relationship with Rowan was wrong made her stomach turn. “We fucked around a bit. Months, actually. We couldn’t stand each other when we weren’t fucking in the beginning, it was honestly just sex. We didn’t feel like telling anyone because once it ended, we didn’t want things to get awkward. We didn’t want the jokes, or suggestions that we should just date. It was easy and simple and telling other people would make it too real.”
Surprisingly, Lorcan, Nesryn and Connall nodded. Fenrys relaxed, and even Borte was smiling at them the way Manon had since the beginning.
“Lys and Aedion had just started dating then, and they spent most nights in our apartment, so I would come here to see Ace. In the first few nights I would arrive, we would fuck and I would leave. Slowly I started coming earlier and we would eat something. I would spend the night and we would grab breakfast together. We became friends.” Rowan shrugged.
“So you two are fuck buddies?” Ren asked.
“No, things changed two months ago after an… incident.” Aelin said and Rowan squeezed her thigh. Aelin didn’t have to look back to know he was fighting a smile. “But then we didn’t know how to tell you guys that we had been fucking for four months and told no one. Ro thought it was better for the two of us to just sit down and tell everyone at once.”
“Ace thought it would be better if she talked to the girls and I talked to the guys.” Rowan finished for her. The tension from her body had vanished, and she was completely resting her back against Rowan’s chest.
“We discussed it for a month and decided to go with Ro’s idea. But then spring break came and everyone went off to somewhere else. We decided to tell when everyone was back. We were going to do it this week after my birthday but you guys came here today.”
“So, basically, you guys have been together for six months. One way or another.” Vaughan asked and Aelin and Rowan nodded.
“Hum, good for you.” Manon said, looking at Aelin. Nehemia, Yrene and Asterin nodded, a small smile playing on their lips.
“Is that why you almost kicked me out of here earlier?” Lys asked, genuinely curious. She didn’t look as pissed as she had in the beginning.
“No. I didn’t even know Ro was coming until I opened the door an hour ago.” She sat up, crossing her legs. Rowan shifted slightly to accommodate her on his lap, his hands now on her hips. “I just didn’t want you to ditch a night with your boyfriend to stay home with me.”
Lys nodded, a small smile playing on her lips. Aelin didn’t fool herself in thinking that Lys wasn’t hurt about her silence, but it was good to know her best friend wasn’t majorly pissed.
“So he’s your boyfriend?” Aedion asked her, but his eyes were on Rowan.
Rowan’s voice was hard when he replied for her. “Yes.”
The room was silent until Manon started laughing. And then Yrene, Nehemia and Asterin. Borte and Nesryn cackled, and Lys and Elide shared a knowing smile. The men only grunted.
“Pay up, assholes.” Elide said.
“What?” Rowan and Aelin said in unison.
“Sophomore year of High School Elide said the two of you would end up together at some point. The tension would just build up to a point that the two of you would either cut all ties or would fuck.” Lorcan grunted, taking out his wallet. “The girls agreed with her. The men said you guys would simply start ignoring each other after college. We bet a hundred and fifty each. We would get the money and split so it’s equal to everyone in each team.”
Aelin’s jaw fell. Rowan sat up then, eyes narrowing. “You have a bet of six years on us?”
“Yes.” Elide replied, happily. “And although me and Ms. Galathynius over there will have a chat about your relationship later, I can’t say I’m sad about going home tonight a hundred and eighty seven bucks richer.”
“You have a bet of six years on whether or not we would bang?” Rowan repeated, dumbfounded.
“I thought we agreed to stop using the word bang.” Chaol said.
“Yeah, bro, it’s fuck.” Connall nodded solemnly as he handed his money to Asterin.
“And who says we only have one?” Manon chirped, counting the money Dorian had painfully given to her.
“I hate every single one of you.” Aelin grunted, resting against Rowan’s chest again. She could feel his body shaking with laughter and had to bite her own lip to fight a smile.
“You hate me? I’m a hundred and fifty poorer and my best friend is banging my cousin. This can’t get worse.”
“You’ll have to see them together every day now. And when Aelin spends the night on your apartment or Rowan isn’t home, you’ll know exactly what’s happening.” Fenrys said, his tone helpful.
Aedion merely groaned.
Aelin turned and gave Rowan a quick kiss, getting up to talk to the girls privately. Rowan gave her ass a playful slap, and she heard Aedion groan again. One look at Rowan and he was smiling like a fiend.
Oh he was going to have fun torturing Aedion.
Aelin spent the rest of the night apologizing for her silence and telling her friends what the last six months had been like. She had a feeling Rowan was doing the same with the guys, but probably with a lot less detail if Aedion hadn’t thrown up on the floor yet.
“You’ll have to make up for it.” Elide said, but she didn’t seem pissed. “We understand why you didn’t tell us, but it still hurts a bit.”
“True.” Lys said as the others nodded.
“I know and I’m so sorry. You guys have no idea how many times I wanted to talk to one of you about Rowan or about something I was insecure about, especially when I started falling for him.” The girls smiled softly at that, even Manon. “But it wasn’t my decision alone, and I couldn’t go up to Ro and say ‘hey, would you mind if I told the girls about us fucking because I think I’m falling hard for you and don’t really know how to proceed?’”
Nesryn snorted, and Yrene put an arm around Aelin. “So you really like him, huh.”
Aelin looked over to Rowan. He was smiling at something Fenrys had said and that had left Aedion scowling. “Yeah, I do.” She said softly.
“This is so strange.” Borte murmured to Asterin.
“So…” Nehemia started, and her tone made Aelin snap her eyes back to her friends.
They were all smiling in a scary way.
“Now that we’ve got the forgiveness part out of the way…” Elide continued.
Aelin’s brows furrowed in confusion.
“How’s the sex?” Lysandra finished and despite herself, Aelin felt her cheeks heating. All the girls laughed at that.
“Good.” She answered, then smiled. “Like really fucking amazing. Best lay of my life.”
“We agree with Fenrys and we do not want details but…” Manon said. “You can be more specific.”
All the women nodded eagerly and Aelin laughed.
She quickly looked at Rowan before telling her friends exactly how Rowan had discovered every bit of her body and soul in the last six months.
She told them of the fighting. The befriending. The falling.
She told them how she was still falling, head first into the L-word zone.
She told them how she couldn’t be happier she was falling.

Hi hi hi hi sooo I just read the proposal which AHHHH and I asked about more dalton and Thea interaction earlier sooo what if they went on Kathy’s show to announce the engagement and then she brought out Thea because Kathy loves to make Kevin’s life difficult
i think i still might answer your previous ask about them doing a press review (bc i love kevin and andriel shutting ppl down), or maybe i’ll answer it with how dalton’s students react to this \/ interview. i love the idea of his students just being obsessed with him LMAO. i would be let’s be real
kevin refuses to go back to kathy ferdinand, but fortunately there’s a better talk show his agent trusts to send them to.
you know, for the announcement.
they’d already posted on social media, but his publicist says they need an official announcement. kevin can’t understand why, but he doesn’t care to find out.
dalton kisses him before he goes out and waits on the side stage until it’s his time. kevin puts on his press smile.
and when cassie, the show host, brings him out, it turns to a real one.
“well what’s the sense in waiting! everyone give a very warm welcome to the future mister day!”
dalton waves. he tries to think of it as just a lecture. it’s just the live audience. definitely not hundreds of thousands of others at home. his students watching at home.
“dalton miller in the flesh, look at you! this is your first show with kevin in all of your years together, yes? is it exciting?”
“it’s something all right. i’ve always liked to watch from behind the camera before, but this is definitely an exception.”
“i’d say! can we get a glimpse of that ring?” he holds his hand out to her and then to a camera for a close up. “so i’m aware you two met at palmetto state university, what was that like?”
“would you believe me if i said it was because kevin needed a tutor?”
cassie fans herself. “damn! truly the teacher student romance, huh?”
dalton laughs, uncomfortably. he definitely didn’t mean it like that.
kevin shrugs. “i wouldn’t say that, exactly. he happened to see me struggling with whatever math homework i had and offered to help.”
“still, it sounds like a meet-cute you’d see on hallmark!” what the fuck was a meet-cute? “surely it was as stressful as dating in the pros? how did you balance your exy schedule and social life?”
kevin has his arm around the back of dalton’s seat. he tilts his head. “i wouldn’t say dating in the pros is hard. not when you’ve got the right person,” he says. “dalton has known since college that things were intense with exy. he knew what he was walking into, and i knew what i was adding to my plate going into it, so it wasn’t hard.”
“absolutely. speaking of a lot on your plate, you just won gold at the olympics not even four weeks ago! can we get a round of applause?!” the crowd is cheering before she even asks, and she calls over them. “and while we’ve got an olympian here, let’s bring out another one we happen to have with us today, thea muldani!”
kevin freezes. dalton grabs his hand.
ever since they broke up and kevin lost the fear of subtly dissing riko, she’s had nothing but hatred for him. she never lets it effect her playing, but kevin still doesn’t understand it.
as thea joins the stage with a fake smile, she nods at the couple on the couch and sits on the opposite side. “isn’t this special! now, thea we were just talking about relationships, and as we all know you and kevin here are on us court together. what was that like being in the olympic village together?”
“the village is such a strange experience, truly, but nothing different than training and practice.”
“i mean, you hear the secrets of the village spilled all the time, the parties and the hookups. we’re all aware that you two were once a couple, was there any old tension between you two while you were there with all that going on? any old feelings brought up? if i were you i’d have to control myself, for sure,” she laughs.
it’s not funny.
dalton doesn’t like the question, and kevin can feel it with the grip of his hand on his knee. the question is for thea, but dalton takes it instead. “i’m sorry, but kevin is not a cheater and i don’t appreciate you insinuating that he would have considered it.”
and kevin doesn’t normally show negative emotions on shows like these, for the sake of what people think of him, but anyone can see he’s visibly upset. “i’m six and a half years sober. i didn’t drink, i didn’t party, i barely strayed from my room and neil josten’s room. i called dalton every day, every night. i called my foxes every day, every night. i proposed four days after the games ended. i’d quit playing exy before i cheated on him.”
and for once, thea is on their side. she flips her hair gracefully over her shoulder. “what an embarrassing question... besides, i will never be so low to be the woman any man takes as a second choice.” the crowd whoops at that, and cassie’s smile twitches. she holds her hands up in retreat.
“my apologies, truly. uh, as for the engagement, dalton, did you see it coming, at all? what with the excitement of the us court’s win and all only a few days before.”
“i really didn’t, no. we’d planned a trip to colorado as a retreat after the games, since they’re so exhausting, but… wait- did we really plan that just to propose?”
kevin shrugs, but he’s smiling. “i never once said to you that it was a post-olympics retreat, so i’ll just say that.”
dalton’s kind of stunned, because he just kind of thought that the idea to propose in colorado came after they decided to go. he’s got a giddy grin on his face, and tries surpressing it as he turns back to cassie. “um… i’m sorry, what was the question?”
after the interview, all three of them leave without saying goodbye to cassie. dalton drives, because kevin is fired up. “i don’t fucking understand what it is with people surprising me with people i don’t want to see. and then insinuating the dumbest fucking things.” they’re at a red light. kevin leans over and turns dalton’s face in his hands. “i love you. i wasn’t kidding. i’d stop fucking playing before i ever hurt you.”
dalton purses his lips, and kisses him real quick before stepping on the gas after someone honks behind them. instead he takes kevin’s hand in his and presses his knuckles to his lips. “i love you.”

Shepard is done with everyone's bullshit
Chapter 2 of An Extra Extended Ending
Summary: Because I hated the ending of the third Mass Effect game so much, I made my own with black jack and hookers. FemShep x Liara with damn near every character is the third game making an appearance.
Chapter 1
***
“How long until communications can reach beyond Sol?”
“It’s unclear,” the asari comm technician said hesitantly; the hum of the ship's electronics seemed to grow in the silence. “Quantum communication seems to be unsalvageable. That just leaves the Sol relay, but our latest reports indicate it sustained damage from the firing of the crucible.”
Sparatus sighed heavily and closed his eyes; this was a hollow victory until he knew the fate of Palaven. “Is there anyone working on it now?”
“No, sir. Those reports only came in minutes ago.”
“What about the team working on the crucible?” Tevos asked. “The brightest minds in the galaxy would have the best chance of fixing it – the sooner the better.” The asari councilor paced around a circular display in the middle of the CIC of the Destiny Ascension looking every bit as impatient as her turian colleague.
“They may be able to, but there is another group we would be foolish to ignore,” Valern muttered quietly, staring at the three dimensional screen, watching the number of surviving ships increase slowly as communication was reestablished ship-by-ship.
“What are you . . .” A look of alarm crossed Sparatus’ face. “No,” the turian said stiffly as he pushed himself away from the display.
“Is it really that terrifying of an idea? It’s only a matter of time before the geth come back online. If we act soon, we may be able to keep our alliance with them intact, maybe even strengthen it.” The salarian folded his arms across his chest and eyed Sparatus intently.
He narrowed his eyes. “Or they may turn on us the moment they realize they have nothing more to gain from our alliance. It’s one thing to cooperate when there is no choice, but what would be their incentive now?”
Valern shook his head condescendingly. “The geth are not as shortsighted as you think.” He brought up the pre-fight fleet numbers. “If even a fraction of their troops survived, it would be in their best interest to repair the relays,” he stated firmly, pointing at the image. “They value knowledge above all else and what better source is there than the relays?”
“This isn’t the first time we’ve come in contact with an AI species. There is too much at risk,” Tevos said quietly from across the room. “If we act quickly-”
“We’ll what? Destroy all of the units in Sol?” Valern shouted over the asari councilor. “How many more do you think are out there? We’d be risking another war - one we are ill prepared for.”
“And you want to send them to work on the relay?! What happens when they acquire the knowledge they seek? What’s to stop them from using it against the rest of the galaxy?” Sparatus marched back to the display and brought up images of the Citadel attack nearly four years earlier. “This is what will happen. They have no use for organics. They made that abundantly clear!”
The salarian councilor shook his head in frustration. “We know how persuasive the Reapers can be and yet even after being attacked by the quarians and being on the verge of annihilating them, they agreed to a truce. These are not simple machines, Sparatus!”
“Why are you so convinced?” Tevos asked suspiciously. She walked slowly around the display toward him. “You were vocally against curing the genophage, why is this different?” She fixed on him with a penetrating stare. “What aren’t you telling us?”
Valern scoffed at the accusation. “I see I’m alone in my conviction. What more can I say to either of you?” With a last impatient glare at his colleagues, the salarian turned and strode from the room. “If not as an act of the Council, then as an act of the salarian people, the geth will be brought back online!” he called back as the door closed behind him.
A tense silence followed Valern and lingered long after he left. “Do we even know if any of the science team is still in Sol?” Sparatus asked quietly while bracing himself on the terminal in front of him.
“No, but we will know soon enough,” she said before sending out the call for help.

Spirits, it’s a miracle she survived, the head nurse thought as he wheeled the patient out of surgery. At least it’s a bit of good news . . . Sure could use a bit more, though.
A sea of medics split to allow the turian and human through the bustling ward. Endless lines of beds on either side of the walkway were filled with too many injured, too many that would not last the next twenty-four hours. That’s not- No, I can’t think like that. There’s too much to do to focus on something so trivial. You’re in charge of this ward, damn it! You have lives to save. . .
He squeezed the gurney between two others and began setting up IVs and monitoring equipment. I need to make my rounds soon. We should be getting another shipment of refugees from the Citadel soon- He froze and stared at the patient. She’s not supposed to be waking up yet! “Ma’am, can you hear me?” he asked, staring down at her.
The woman drowsily blinked for a moment before lifting her eyes and focusing on the turian . . . and letting out a sudden, terrified scream. “AHHHH!!!”
Damn it, not again. “Ma’am, it’s okay. You’re aboard the Destiny Ascension.” Another blood-curdling scream. “Ma’am, you’re safe! You were injured-”
“Hey! That’s enough!” Both quickly looked over to the next bed and saw the occupant giving them a stern glare. “I know turians are ugly, but you’re going to make the guy self-conscious if you keep up the screaming.”
The woman stared, gaping at the other patient, long enough for the nurse to inject a sedative into her IV. “There you go, ma’am. Just relax.” They watched tensely as the woman quickly sank bonelessly back into her pillow. Finally. I’m not going to live this down any time soon, he thought as other orderlies snickered as they passed.
“So, who do I need to talk to to get out of here?” the other patient asked after a moment.
“Myself,” he said as he finished setting up the sleeping woman’s monitoring equipment. “Is there somewhere you need to be?”
“I figured you could use another empty bed.”
“What I need is for my patients to recover sufficiently, regardless of how much they think otherwise.” He walked over to the patient and looked at her chart. Human female, numerous serious burns, deep puncture wound to the right side, three fractured ribs – well this just goes on and on. “How are you feeling, ma’am?”
“Fantastic,” she said dryly inspecting the bandages on her hands and arms. “The pain meds wore off a while ago – No! No, I’m not asking for more.”
“If you need them-”
The patient shook her head. “I’m okay. I just,” she paused for a moment and chose her words carefully, “I need to be doing something. I can’t just lay here and – and think. Just give me a once over before you make me stay . . . please.”
He recognized the quiet desperation in her voice and the pleading in her eyes. “Fine.” With a healthy amount of skepticism, the turian gently unwrapped the bandages on her left arm. That can’t be right- He checked the chart again. How the hell? Humans aren’t supposed to heal this quickly. This is more in line with a krogan . . . maybe even faster.
“It’s not pretty, but it’s still better than it was before,” she said quietly, examining the slightly inflamed skin.
“Remarkable is what it is.” He unbandaged the other arm and stared in numb disbelief. “There has to be some sort of mistake in your chart-”
“I think you’ll find my side is sufficiently healed as well.”
The nurse met her piercing stare before pulling back the blanket and lifting her hospital gown. Spirits . . . this is incredible, he thought after removing the gauze. “How is this possible? Even if you spent the last six hours in a vat of medi-gel, you wouldn’t be able to heal this quickly.”
“I’m not exactly a normal human.” The ward around them moved on, unaware of the medical anomaly the head nurse was observing. “So what do you think?” she asked hesitantly.
I think the galaxy needs to study you, but . . . you don’t belong in the ICU. “I can see no justification for keeping you here, but we’re going to need to get you fed and cleaned up before you can go anywhere.” He noted the change in her status in her chart, shaking his head in disbelief as he did. “I’ll send someone over with a meal.”
“Thank you.”
He turned to leave but stopped, hesitating a moment. “Ma’am . . . everything you’ve done – everyone you’ve saved . . . there aren’t words strong enough to convey the gratitude we – I feel toward you. Thank you, Commander.”
The soldier nodded numbly, not meeting his eyes.
But it never feels like enough, he thought sadly. Stay strong, Shepard. I fear we may need you now more than ever.

“-he’s going-”
“No, it’s-”
“Where-”
A sharp radiating pain drilled between the exhausted asari’s eyes as distant voices became clear. “It all looks fine, no permanent damage. You are cleared for duty.”
Dr. Chakwas, the med bay. . . the crash. . . Shepard. . .
“Liara? Can you hear me?”
With an enormous effort, she opened her eyes. “Yes,” she rasped out. Her throat was so dry.
“How are you feeling?”
“Not at all well.” She rolled onto her side trying to lessen the pain.
“This should help.”
Something wonderful flowed through her veins, dulling the agony. “Where are we?” she asked tentatively.
“Armstrong nebula, but beyond that no one is sure. They say the planet is habitable though, with a breathable atmosphere and a comfortable gravity.” She helped Liara sit up and handed her a bottle of water. “Finish this and then get some rest.”
She gulped it down gratefully as worry began to sink in. “Do you know what happened to us?”
“Not really,” the doctor admitted. “Whatever that energy field was, it left no physical trace other than several cases of acute epistaxis – nosebleed.” She handed Liara another bottle of water. “Your case was a bit worse, likely due to trying to help the engineers restart the core for over an hour with your biotics.”
Liara sighed tiredly, staring at the bottle, “Not that it did any good. Have we been able to reach anyone back in Sol?”
“I’m afraid not. Specialist Traynor thinks the quantum communication network is beyond repair. We will have to rely on the relays and hope someone is out there to hear us.” The doctor let her cheery façade slip for a moment, long enough to hint at the extent of the worry she was trying to hide. It slid back into place as Chakwas laid a hand on Liara’s shoulder. “Get some rest, I’ll wake you if anything changes.”
But will it ever? she thought as she stared up at the ceiling, feeling the numbing darkness pull her back under.

“This has got to be the most confusing hell-hole I’ve ever been to.”
“What’s so confusing about it, Mr. Vega?” Steve Cortez asked as he finished his lukewarm MRE.
“It’s not the layout or anything like that – it’s the people.” Vega pushed himself gingerly off the cot on the floor of a mostly intact office building and pulled the bottle of water from the shuttle pilot’s hands. “Thanks, Estaban. It’s like no one can tell what they’re supposed to be feeling,” he muttered, flexing his injured leg.
Cortez took back his water and scanned the area. Roughly five miles from where the beam had been in central London, a small outpost had been hastily established to tend to the injured. Understaffed and undersupplied, it was not a place of miraculous medical operations, but a last-ditch effort to save as many survivors as possible – including James Vega. “After months of hopelessness, there is plenty to be thankful for . . . and just as much to mourn for.”
“It just feels – shit, I don’t know. Maybe it’s all of that blood I lost on the trek over here, but this just feels wrong. Javik, what’s your read on the situation?”
The prothean did not move from his meditative stance across the room. “Your species celebrates prematurely and mourns before the heaviest of losses are counted.” He paused for a moment before bowing his head slightly, “But even with these flaws, it is your cycle that stopped the Reapers – whether for good or just temporarily. That is more than what can be said of my cycle.”
“Yeah, that sounds about right,” Vega said tiredly. “Do you think – what set off the crucible?”
A sad smile pulled at Cortez’s lips, “Until I hear otherwise, I’m going to believe Shepard did.”
“I’m okay with that,” the lieutenant said as he laid back down. He was out within minutes.
“How is the human krogan?” Javik asked without moving.
Cortez rubbed his face roughly as he tried to shake the melancholy brought on by the thought of Shepard. “The medics think he’ll make it.”
“Good, our efforts dragging him here were not in vain,” the prothean said sternly. “Do not lose your determination – the fight may be over, but your people will need you and Vega.”
“That goes for you too, Javik. You’re one of us now. We aren’t about to forget what you’ve done to help us.”
Javik bowed his head in acknowledgement, but remained silent.
We’re going to need everyone, Cortez thought as he stared around the room at the other cots filled with injured soldiers. I just hope there’s enough of a galaxy left worth rebuilding.

“So what you’re saying is we’re screwed.”
“Not entirely,” Tali said hesitantly as Garrus and Williams stared up at the motionless mass effect core in despair. “What we’re saying is that it will take a while, a few weeks at least.”
“Assuming it’s fixable at all,” Williams said skeptically.
“I’m not saying it will be easy, Commander,” Adams said calmly, “but I think we’ll be able to get it up and running again.”
“That’s better than nothing,” Garrus offered.
Williams took a breath and nodded. “Okay, I’ll inform the crew,” she said before heading to the elevator.
“How is she doing?” Daniels asked as they all stared back at the core.
“She’s managing,” Garrus said quietly. “She still doesn’t know if she can fill the void Shepard left, but she knows she has to.”
“No one can replace Shepard, but that wasn’t ever the plan was it?” Tali asked.
“No, but it’s going to feel that way for a while – at least until we get a rhythm going,” Donnelly said. “Any luck with EDI?”
“Not yet.” Garrus headed toward the elevator. “I’ll let you know if we make contact with anyone. Let us know if there’s anything we can do topside.”

“Watch the right flank!” Grunt roared over the gunfire. He and his men were deep in the wards flushing out and dispatching Cerberus troops. “Take out that engineer!”
It was slow, grueling work. Street by street, building by building, the enemy was steadily falling back. They’d even managed to save a few civilians. It wasn’t their primary goal, but it did give him a sense of pride knowing he prevented someone’s death by causing another’s.
“Move up!” They were meeting fewer and fewer troops until recently, not that it bothered him. What worried him was the number of engineers they’d come across in this neighborhood. Something was brewing.
“Keep an eye out for explosives and turrets,” he growled as the last enemy fell. “Something doesn’t feel right.”
The squad moved carefully from the courtyard to the building interior. No resistance, no one at all. What are we missing? Cowards, where are you hiding?
“Let’s get out of here,” he ordered before they’d finished securing the building. “Double-time it!” This smells like a trap.
“What was that?!” one of his men yelled as the building shook violently.
Shooting out a window, Grunt bellowed, “Get out of the building NOW!” His men leaped from the window three stories up. The krogan commander followed and landed hard on the walkway below just as the building collapsed. “Those damn cowards,” he growled. “They’ll have to do better than that!”

I can’t wait to get off of this fucking ship. At least the food is decent – I am beyond sick of MREs. Jack checked her omni-tool for the fourth time in five minutes. What the hell is taking so long?
After arriving with an unconscious Shepard, she watched uneasily as her friend was wheeled away to surgery. The next hour was a blur of confusion, exhaustion, and anxiety. At some point she’d managed to sleep for a few hours. Now she was an irritable and short tempered ball of energy, desperate to get back to Earth and her kids.
“Keep that up and people will think you’re unbalanced,” a soft voice said behind her.
“Fuck you,” Jack said with a hint of relief. “I can’t believe they let you out. I mean – you still look like shit.”
“Thank you, Jack. You always know how to cheer me up.” Shepard sat next to the biotic with her protein bar and electrolyte drink. “What’s going on?”
“Who the fuck knows?” She stared at the table in front of her. “No communication outside of the system, Grunt is still securing the Citadel, still no word on my kids or the Normandy.”
“Earth?”
“Bits and pieces. Nothing yet on your boys in London.” She watched Shepard eat mechanically, stoic to the lack of information.
“I have to meet with the council and then after that, hopefully we can catch a shuttle back to London.”
“When’s the meeting?”
“Whenever I feel like it.”
About damn time you started telling those spineless fuckers where they can shove it. She stared at the softly glowing scars on her face and neck. Someone hasn’t been thinking happy thoughts. “So are we going to dick around here for a while to piss them off?”
She shook her head after she finished the last of the meal. “There are a few things I need to say before they start another victory tour. I’m going to need you there to keep me in check.”
A small snort of laughter escaped Jack, “You’re shitting me, right?”
Shepard stood and gave her a tight smile. “Let’s just say I’m a little short on patience at the moment.”
“Well, shit. I might have to film this.” She followed the commander with a sinister grin. “Let’s go make some councilors cry.”

“I don’t know what else there is to try,” Traynor said tiredly. “My expertise is on a smaller scale. I don’t know how to fix a comm problem on a galactic scale!”
Williams leaned on the terminal that had been Shepard’s in the CIC. “A galactic scale? What does that mean?”
The comms specialist ran her hands through her hair. “There are a couple of possibilities. First, we are the only survivors and that is why we haven’t reached anyone-”
“Let’s not go with that possibility.”
“Okay. Second, something is actively blocking our communications – natural or otherwise.”
“Reapers blocking communication,” the lieutenant commander said stoically.
“Or third, the mass relays are not functioning properly, due to damage or complete destruction.”
“From the crucible firing.” The CIC was silent as Williams contemplated the scenarios. “And none of these can be fixed while we’re stuck here.”
“No, ma’am.”
What are we supposed to do? What am I supposed to do?! Damn you, Shepard. It should be you here not me. “Let’s focus on the small scale then. What can we do to get the Normandy space worthy again?”
Traynor stared at the nonfunctional galaxy map as she bit her lip. “There are still several systems that haven’t come online that should have by now. There’s the exterior damage and then there’s EDI.”
“What’s the status of EDI?”
“Completely unresponsive.”
“Shit,” Williams muttered. “Do we have any idea how to get her back up?”
Traynor was silent for a moment. “I have a few ideas, but I’m not sure if they’d do any good. When Dr. T’Soni feels up to it, I’d like to get her input.”
“She was still passed out in the med bay last I checked.” She closed her eyes and let out a long breath. “Do what you can to bring up the other systems – keep me updated.”

“How are you holding up?”
Joker looked away from the foliage surrounding the cockpit and saw Garrus approaching. “Great,” he said sarcastically. “Crashed the ship, cracked four ribs, and my girlfriend might be dead. How about you?”
“I’m alive, that’s more than I expected to be honest.” He dropped into the seat next to the pilot. “In large part thanks to you.”
The pilot looked away. “Yeah don’t get too gushy yet. We may have to start calling this place home even if we can get the Normandy off the ground.”
“If that’s the case,” Williams said as she approached, “then I think our first priority should be finding something growing out there that can be distilled before we run out of liquor.”
“Good to know we’re on the same page,” Garrus chuckled. “I don’t suppose we know if what’s growing out there is levo- or dextro-amino based.”
“If we distill it enough it shouldn’t matter,” Joker said, staring back out at the jungle. “No protein in pure ethanol.”
Williams shared a concerned look with Garrus before speaking behind the pilot’s chair. “I’ve been talking to Traynor – she has some ideas on how to bring EDI back. Once Liara is up and about she and Traynor can start working on her.”
Joker continued staring out of the window as if he didn’t hear her. “Okay,” he finally said quietly.

Finally, Tevos thought as Shepard stepped through the open door. She looks much better, but are her scars glowing? “Shepard, we were beginning to worry. Who is your companion?”
The Spectre stood at parade rest in front of the asari while her comrade remained near the door. “Jack, this is the council. Councilors Tevos and Sparatus, meet Jack – a teacher at Grissom Academy. She’s here to . . . keep an eye on me while I’m recovering.”
A snort of laughter escaped the other human as she folded her arms across her chest. Shepard always did keep strange company.
“May I inquire where the salarian councilor is?” Shepard asked soberly.
“Valern has decided he would be more comfortable aboard a salarian ship,” Sparatus said stiffly. “That is part of why we needed to speak with you.”
Tevos activated the display at the center of the room showing an image of the Sol relay, it’s rings fractured and stationary. “It would seem the relays were damaged when the crucible fired. We have many of the crucible scientists working to repair it, but there’s been discussion about whether other groups should be recruited to help.”
“Why would we not ask everyone to fix it?” Shepard asked with a slight edge to her voice.
“This is the most advanced technology in the galaxy,” the turian said briskly. “In the wrong hands, this knowledge could endanger all of us.”
“So who hasn’t been invited to the party, the salarians?”
“No, the geth.”
Shepard frowned as she mauled over the information. “The geth are still alive?”
“They were never alive to begin with, Shepard. At the moment all units are offline,” Sparatus said, staring at the display. “Valern thinks they can be activated and recruited to help with repairs.”
Shepard fought to keep her face neutral. “Why not ask for their help? From where I’m standing, it looks like we could use all the help we can get. Don’t forget the rachni, they’ve also been proven to be very capable and intelligent.”
How does she not see the risks associated with her ideas? “Are you listening to a word you’re saying, Shepard? With the galaxy weakened as it is, it would take very little to change the balance of power and throw us all into another war.” Tevos turned and began to pace. “Caution is needed now more than ever,” she said as she stopped in front of the Spectre.
Shepard closed her eyes and let out a slow breath – her scars seeming to brighten as she did. “Are you suggesting we sever the alliances that we – no, what am I saying? – that I forged to win this war-”
“There’s a difference between having an alliance and handing out loaded weapons that could be pointed back at us,” Sparatus interrupted.
Despite remaining still, the marine radiated anger, enough to make the armed guards perk up. “If you intend on backstabbing your allies, then yes you will have something to worry about.”
“Commander, your vision of the galaxy is naïve,” Tevos stated impatiently. “You of all people should know what the risks associated with-”
Shepard barked out a laugh, breaking her immobile stance. She shook her head in exasperation. “I’m sorry, Councilor, but I can’t buy into the idea that I’m the naïve one. How long do you think it will take for the galaxy to find out your people have been hiding the best preserved prothean beacon in existence? Do you honestly think you will be able to remain the superior race? If it’s any comfort, I don’t think you will have to worry about the rest of the galaxy, I think your own people will be the ones to tear down your species. How many thousands of years have the asari been lied to, Councilor? Was that a risk worth taking?”
Tevos clenched her jaw as she fought her own anger. “And do you honestly think the galaxy will be better off without our guidance? Will the geth lead the way to the future or will it be the humans?” she asked acidly.
“I’d like to see what the galaxy can do together,” she said evenly. “But we can’t do that if we start severing alliances without just cause.”
Sparatus leaned over the galaxy map. “Shepard, what you’re saying is inspiring, but you can’t protect the galaxy with idealism,” he said standing beside Tevos. “The asari government will have to answer for their crimes, but what the galaxy needs now is stability . . . and someone they can stand behind-”
“You’ve got to be kidding me.” Shepard spat. Behind her, Jack was muttering loudly about spineless politicians. “I’m not about to smile and assure the galaxy everything is fine,” she explained as she also leaned over the map, “while you screw them over when they’re not looking.” Shepard glared at Sparatus. “If that’s what’s expected of me as a Spectre then you’ll have to accept my resignation.”
“This isn’t a matter of right or wrong, Shepard!” he said with fire in his eyes. “This is about saving our galaxy and preventing a complete collapse of the community!”
Shepard took a step back and shook her head again. “A little honesty and accountability could go a long way, Councilor. We are all vulnerable, but we have an opportunity to make all of us stronger than we were before this war!” Shepard turned back to Tevos, “The galaxy will stand behind me regardless of if you want them to or not. The question is whether you’ll be standing with us or on your own.”
The drone of the ventilation system filled the room as Shepard turned and headed to the door. “How many billions died because of the decisions you’ve made?” she asked as she paused at the door. “Do you have any idea what it’s like to-” She turned to face them. “You had four years to prepare, but none of you did a damn thing. But this guilt doesn’t just belong to either of you, though. It’s just as much mine for not doing more, for not – for not-”
“Shepard, let’s go,” Jack said quietly.
“For the sake of the galaxy, I do hope there will be a change in the balance of power.” She followed Jack out of the room without a second glance.
“That went well,” the turian muttered tiredly. “If there’s nothing else, I too would like to be with my people.” He left without waiting for a reply.
The asari councilor remained unmoving long after they left, contemplating Shepard’s words and the fate of her race. Things will never be the same again . . .

“They have hundreds of civilians in the buildings ahead,” the krogan scout reported to Grunt.
The commander and his men were camped out in a maintenance tunnel roughly fifteen blocks away from the Cerberus stronghold. “What defenses will we face?”
“Portable barriers and too many turrets to count. A direct approach will be nearly impossible.”
Grunt narrowed his eyes and contemplated his next move. “It looks like we’ll be needing stealth then.” Several of his men shook their heads and growled impatiently. “Complain all you want, but I can promise you we’ll kill more of them this way. These tunnels run right under them. They’ll be dead before they know we’re there. Pack it up and move out!”
The tunnels, unfortunately, were never meant to fit a krogan. Crawling on their bellies single file, the soldiers pushed the lifeless bodies of keepers from their path. The tight space was making his men agitated, something Grunt struggled with just as much. Damn those Cerberus cowards. . .
As they progressed further, voices could be heard above them. “Get those turrets up now! We’ve lost sight of the Krogans and spotted a turian cruiser near the shopping center. Where are those mechs?!”
I’m going to enjoy this. Soon voices multiplied and words became blurred – the sound of dozens of footsteps echoed down the tunnel. We must be getting close. . .
The scout signaled and the squad branched off down the numerous side passages and waited. Time to finish this.
With an angry roar the krogans sprang from the tunnels. Cerberus troops too stunned to move were quickly cut down. “No more hiding!” Grunt followed after those fleeing from the chaos.
Thick clouds of smoke flooded the building he entered, blinding him. I can still hear you, still smell your fear. Staying low, he let out an angry growl and sprinted through the fog into the nearest shooting enemy, crushing him against the wall behind him. “Who’s next?!”
As he cleared the lobby of the building more gunfire was heard outside. Those aren’t my men . . .
Turians, and lots of them, were flooding the walkways, pushing Cerberus forces back faster. Grunt growled in annoyance as he moved to the next floor. Bastards are going to have this fight finished before it gets good!

“That is out of the question.”
“But, Dr. Chakwas-”
“Absolutely not.”
Traynor and Liara sighed in defeat under the doctor’s stern gaze. “Can we at least inspect Glyph to see if he can be brought online?” Liara asked impatiently.
“Only if you plan on doing it here in the med bay so I can keep an eye on you,” she said shortly. “I am completely serious about not using your biotics. Twenty-four hours and not a minute less.”
“Okay then,” Traynor said hesitantly, “we can at least brainstorm about what that energy wave was.”
Chakwas shook her head tiredly, “All of the symptoms were very mild and nearly identical: loss of consciousness, headaches, and nosebleeds.”
“All electronics were rendered useless, but chemical and biological systems remained mostly unaffected,” Liara muttered thinking of the glow stick Donnelly lit in engineering before the crash landing.
“It would have to have been something mostly inert to have passed through the entire ship, but leave little damage,” the comms specialist said thoughtfully as she pulled up a chair opposite Chakwas and T’Soni.
“But everything affected by it seems to be salvageable,” Chakwas said as she examined the crew’s medical logs since the crash.
“If it is inert, then there would have to have been a lot of it.” Liara shared a look with Traynor. “You’re thinking about a wave of dark matter, aren’t you? Like a dark matter EMP?”
“Neutrinos to be specific. Dark matter alone can account for ninety-five percent of a system’s mass. Neutrinos are only formed when something expending a lot of energy happens like a supernova or a nuclear reaction-”
“Or a relay firing?”
“It would seem like a logical jump,” Traynor said with some hesitation. “It’s been observed in very low levels after a ship has used a relay.”
“So, if that’s what it was then how did it drain nearly everything of potential energy?” Liara asked, letting her head fall into her hands.
“Liara?”
“I’m fine, it’s just a headache.”
“We’re stepping well past my area of expertise.”
The bay was silent for a moment as the women thought. “I do have one rather unsettling question,” Chakwas said calmly as she put down her notes. “If we can restore function to our omni-tools and maybe even EDI, could the Reapers also be restored – assuming of course that they were affected at all? Are they simply in a state of inactivation?”
The room fell silent.
“That would also be a logical leap,” Traynor said quietly.

Jack glared as their shuttle veered away from their intended destination. “Shepard, this doesn’t look like Earth.”
“No, it does not. Apparently we’re having a layover at the dreadnought up ahead.” Shepard felt a chill run down her spine as the small shuttle entered the cavernous hanger. I don’t think we’ll be leaving any time soon.
“That’s one hell of a welcoming party,” Jack muttered, eying the scores of armed soldiers assembling at the landing zone. “This normal procedure or are we just special?”
“We are special,” she sighed. The shuttle door opened with a hiss as Shepard exited. Immediately the soldiers came to attention and held a salute. I am not ready to be back to this.
A lone soldier marched briskly through the ranks of the others and stopped in front of Shepard with a crisp salute. “Welcome aboard, Staff Commander Shepard.”
“Thank you, Lieutenant.” Shepard tried not to think about how much she didn’t want to be there as she returned the salute. “I asked to be taken back down to Earth. I’m a bit confused why I’m here.”
“If you’ll follow me, ma’am, Admiral Ahern will be able to answer all of your questions.”
Shepard came to a sudden stop. “Wait, wait, wait. Are you referring to Admiral Tadius Ahern of Pinnacle Station?”
“Yes, ma’am, I believe that was his previous assignment,” he said stoically as he turned and led them across the hanger.
“You want to fill me in on who this guy is?” Jack asked quietly as they neared the elevator.
“I may have . . . won the admiral’s apartment on Intai’sei in a bet a few years back.”
Jack shook her head a few times before finally saying, “Queen of the fucking girl scouts . . . Have you even set foot in the place?”
“Once,” she admitted as they entered the spacious lift. “I was a bit preoccupied with stopping a rogue spectre and his army of geth from wiping out the galaxy.” Shepard found herself syncing back up with the strict protocols usually practiced on larger ships, a long way from the casual atmosphere of the Normandy. What I wouldn’t give to be back there. . .
“Commander Shepard, it’s been a while,” the gruff admiral said as the group entered the combat information center.
“Yes it has, sir,” she said, saluting. “I see you still haven’t retired.”
“Can’t do that without a retirement home, now can I?” Ahern waited for his men to disembark before continuing. “This your protégé?”
Jack frowned, looking mildly insulted. “Hell, no.”
“She’s a friend,” Shepard said with a grin. “I don’t mean to sound rude, Ahern, but why the hell am I here?”
The older man chuckled and motioned them to follow him. “With Admiral Hackett beyond Sol and Admiral Anderson deceased – a great man, the galaxy is a worse place without him – I am the highest ranking officer. It’s my job to make the big decisions.”
Shepard nodded silently, her throat suddenly unbearably tight.
“I’ve been contacted by the salarian councilor,” he continued. “It seems he wants our help with a project.”
“I’m guessing it has to do with the geth,” Jack said dryly.
“That it does. Not long after the crucible fired and we restarted the systems on the ship, we began sending ships out to retrieve as many alliance fighters as we could before the poor bastards suffocated. Some of our ships also brought back geth fighters. I’m thinking we must have over a hundred of them in the hangar wherever we could find room.”
“Are any of them online?” Shepard asked. They came to a platform overlooking the entire CIC as well as one hell of a view of Earth from the enormous widows ahead of them.
“They weren’t initially,” he said leaning on the railing. “I had some of our techs try to jump start them, but it’s a slow process. We are able to bring up basic processes, though.” He paused, rubbing the stubble on his jaw. “The problem is what happens if we can’t bring them back online completely. And now I’ve got the salarians breathing down my neck demanding access to them, but I’m not entirely sure if their interest in them is honorable.”
Shepard stared out the windows at Earth, feeling a wave of grief washing over her. “You want to help them, but don’t trust the salarians.”
“Organic or not, they came to our aid. Hell, I’m thinking of commissioning a memorial for them in London,” he said wearily with a bit of humor.
“And that’s why I always liked you, sir.”
“That’s touching, but I was hoping for a bit more feedback than that.”
She closed her eyes and took a long breath before answering. “What I know is that the turians and asari would rather leave the geth as they are.” Shepard shook her head sadly. “I haven’t spoken with the salarian councilor since shortly after firing the crucible, but I think you have good reason to hesitate.”
“I should have kicked his ass while I had the chance,” Jack muttered. “The prick wouldn’t stop going on about how saving Shepard’s life was a waste of time.”
“What stopped you?” Ahern asked, grinning.
“I was too busy fixing his and everyone else’s fucking omni-tools.”
“Shame. So what is your official recommendation, Commander?”
“For now,” she said after a moment, “allow them hands-off access. Be open to consultations, but have your men continue to take the lead on this. I’ve never known Councilor Valern to offer assistance out of the kindness of his heart.”
“That is as good of a plan as any.” He signaled one of his men to meet them. “Lieutenant Riley will show you to the armory and also get you fitted for a set of armor. There’s no telling what the situation down there is like with most of the comms down. It was good seeing you, Shepard, and meeting your protégé. Stay safe.”
Jack flipped him off before following Shepard.

Notes: Thanks for reading! I planned on adding more, but I forgot this existed for a few years and then lost the second half of this chapter. I'll see if I can track it down. :P

What would be your OCs ideal "meet-cute"? Like how did they plan to meet their darling in a way that would attract them to the boys? Or did it happen by pure coincidence?
love the ask! Prepare for chaos cause I like seeing them struggle
Also omg you gave a request Im so happy I think you're so cool and i like seeing you on my notifications so please like and request more stuff if you want to ahhhh💖-
This story contains: talk of stalking, yandere behavior, talk of sex (sorry it's prince...sex is always on his mind)
Theodore
Oh he's smart
He knows exactly how he wants to set up
He first saw you in your favorite bakery and from then on it was a done deal
His five years of stalking you has paid off
He knows almost everything at this point
He wanted it to be romantic and something out of a romance movie
But- he's still a bit of a dummy at times and it didn't go exactly how he wanted it to
He's played this out in his head about 100 times, he has done everything he has to in order to get everything to work out in his favor, so why did this have to happen?
His plan was to walk in ten minutes before you did at the bakery, he would pretend to be unsure of what to get then once you walk in he waits exactly two minutes before asking what exactly you would get sounding as lost and clueless as possible
out of the kindness in your heart you will respond and he will charm his way to getting your number, even though he already has it. That was the plan but you never did show up to the bakery so he panicked and went to your house to look for you
Were you kidnapped? Sick? What was going on?! He has rushed to your place now right infront of the door only for it to swing open and for you to crash into him falling ontop of him, okay?
You were frazzled and flustered, you must have woken up late. He looked at you and felt his cheeks turning red as you scrambled up and he picked up his glasses
"i-im so sorry! I just crashed into you i didnt see you"
This wasn't exactly how he expected it but he can use this, sure it wasn't the same but it was alright he can work with this.
"ah, it's quite alright. Though I'm sorry to say but my ankle isn't doing so well"
"holy shit, I'm sorry! So you need help?!"
You helped him up and as theodore leaned on you slightly he shuddered at the scent of you, absolutely delicious.
"sorry, I'm so rude I'm theodore"
"I'm the rude one here, it's [y/n]. do you live around here or something? I feel responsible so let me help by getting you home"
Theodore smiled and adjusted his glasses as he faked the pain in his ankle, it was a little embarrassing having to pretend to be pathetic but his first plan flew out the window and this was all he had left
"live just down the road, thank you for such kindness"
He smiled and knew that he wormed his way into your life, sure it wasn't how he wanted but he was in no rush.
Hikaru
He has to be careful
He's famous after all
He has an image to maintain so he can't be all creepy and stalk you
He pays people to do that
He first saw you at one of his photoshoot sites and he just couldn't help but fall
He really honestly just wants to walk up to you and say hi
But a crowd of people would be on him I minutes so maybe not
He decided to wear a hat and mask
He honestly is so self centered he just wanted to say hi and expected you to swoon
Hikaru adjusted the mask now walking into the book store where he saw you walk into just moments before, plan was to casually find you and bump into you before revealing himself and next thing you know you are jumping into his arms!
So he did just that, walked into the book store, saw you and "accidentally" bumped into you causing the book in your hand to fall
"oh I'm sorry, how clumsy of me"
"no no it's fine! Accidents happen y'know?"
Hikaru smirks before pulling down his mask while picking up the book, his eyes shining with a charming gaze as he looked at you
"how about I make it up to you with some yummy food"
"oh! You're that model from the magazines!"
Yeah baby now come jump into-
"that's sweet but I'm good it's truly fine"
Excuse me bitch?
Hikaru felt his body twitch now fighting the urge to turn his charming grin into a harsh scowl, what the actual hell!? Do you not see how hot he is?! God why the fuck did he fall in love with such a dumbass?!
"o-oh well, how about I pay for your book? I like this book as well so it's only fair"
"you like 'elmo goes to wonderland?'"
Hikaru twitched once more as he glanced down at the book you had dropped and felt his eye twitch with annoyance, why were you buying this?!
"it's for my friend's sister if you were wondering, if you're still up for it let's have that food I want some red bean buns!"
Okay..so that worked?!
Hikaru didn't understand why him being a total idiot wooed you but okay?!
"names [y/n] by the way, I'll let my friend know that you love elmo I'm sure she has more books for you"
Your joke wasn't funny and hikaru now wanted to kiss and strangle you at the same damn time. He feels so embarrassed but at the same time happy.....but the real thing he's thinking is why the hell did I fall for this idiot?!
Prince
Okay so he really just wanted to get into your pants
Like really wanted to get in there
Until he started to stalk you and saw how you acted
That's when he fell for you
He has no idea how to court anyone so he has no idea what the hell to do
This was a whole different game that he didn't know how to play
You were different than the strippers and party loving people he hangs with
You two met out of pure fate
Your friends were forcing you to go out for your birthday to a bar
The bar he worked at
His heart was about to burst
He wanted to say hi soooo bad but your friends were flirting with him hard
He figured if he got them drunk they will pass out
So he did exactly that while leaving you tipsy
He's been bartending for a while so he knows how to do this kinda stuff
Once he strikes up a conversation with you he's so happy
"so, you don't exactly look like one of my normal customers"
"what exactly does your normal customers look like?"
Prince grinned at you as he fixed you another drink before placing it infront of you, giving you a sly wink
"nothing like you doll face, you're too cute and I've never seen your face trust me I would remember a face like yours"
He prayed to God his flirting works cause that's the only trick he's got. He watched you laugh as you took a sip of your drink and he knew he wanted to marry you on the spot
"smooth, but you'll have to try a little harder than that"
"alright well, what's your name?"
"[y/n], why whose askin?"
Prince flashed a huge grin as he leaned down his arms rested against the bar as he eyed you up and down.
"prince is the name, so ever wanted to get behind a bar before?"
"won't you get into trouble for that?"
"I won't tell if you won't"
Sexual tension was HIGH
Prince was ready!
then..you fell asleep
Damn it he got you too drunk, with a long sigh he leaned back now feeling the biggest blue balls in his entire life, he decided it was time to take you home so he did exactly that.
Getting into your place was far too easy and he reminded himself that when you two stsrt dating he has to tighten security around here, he laid you in the bed before placing a soft kiss onto your cheek and leaving but not before writing his phone number and name on a napkin and placing it on your nightstand
Axis
Okay so I've talked about how dumb axis is
But he is like...reallllyyyyy dumb
Poor boy was so excited when he first met you before falling in love
He met you at an art store
He needed help on picking the right color and you popped up
Your voice made him giggle and your smell made him drool
He was in LOVE!
He wanted to meet you again
So he showed up at that art shop every single day listening for your voice and hoping to smell that amazing scent
After six months of actively going he almost given up..until
"excuse me, where are the paint buckets?"
"oh! Right this way!"
Axis perked up as he heard footsteps and the soft scent filling his nose, you! It was you! It had to be you! You were here!
He slowly followed your scent hearing you talk to the worker before hearing the worker's footsteps vanish, he was panicked! Did he look okay?! Did his eyes look weird?! He made sure to wear his sunglasses but they weren't all too tinted..what if you see his weird fish eyes!
All this panicking made him start to shake and he soon heard a voice break him out of it
"excuse me, are you okay?"
He tensed up and snapped his attention onto that voice, that angel of a voice. That voice that could make him do anything it could ever want, you were infront of him and he loved it
"y-yeah! Sorry! I'm just panicking cause I don't know which paint to buy, being blind has its limits haha"
"oh, well I can help if you need?"
He gave an excited nod and you did exactly that just like you did six months ago, it was magical
"what do you need paint for?"
"oh I just moved into a new place"
You moved? He didn't know that, he doesn't know anything about you, he wants to know everything
"oh, well I'm an artist haha, weird yeah?"
"well I don't think it's that weird, it's actually really impressive"
Dontcrydontcrydontcry-
Axis held in every tear he could as he decided to ask the age old question, the question he wanted to know for six months
"what's your name?"
"oh! Sorry! It's [y/n]"
What a pretty name, a name he wanted to now write over and over again, when you asked his name he of course gave it to you before throwing an opportunity out there hoping you take it
"if you ever need help painting your house, I can help out trust me I'm awesome with a brush!"
"I would actually like that, when are you free?"
"now."
That's how he ended up in your home, and into your life.
Yuki
He literally just walked up and said hi
That's it
He saw you and was like "oh okay let's do this now"
He has no grace he doesn't usually plan things out he just goes and see how it works out
As a person who is a mute 80% of the time talking with you was a little awkward.
He gave off a lost puppy type vibe
Yuki usually would never come to an arcade, but he wanted to win the giant stuffed cat that they had at the prize booth it was so big that they simply had a picture of it..it would make a wonderful place to sleep on
It costed so many tickets though so he had put his entire paycheck into that card to hopefully win as much tickets as he could. That's when he met you, you were absolutely killing it on one of the zombie games and honestly it looked super cool
He walked up to the machine before swiping his card and picking up the player two gun, without a single word he started to play as well. The silence was awkward for sure but it was you who broke it
"wow you are actually pretty good, you play a lot?"
"nope."
His short one word answer made you think that he wasn't really wanting to talk so you were about to leave when he simply swiped his card in the player one slot before handing you the gun once more, with a grin you stepped back up and continued to play
You would ask him questions and get one word responses back or even just sounds filled with emotions, you quickly realized that he just was a man of few words
Yuki had been swiping his card for the both of you so when the time came that he was tapped out a look of shock filled him, he was about to go out more money in but it seemed like the store was closing
"well, I better g-"
You were cut off with him grabbing your hand and pulling you to the prize counter. You followed as he gave the worker the card and got exactly what he wanted...the softest, warmest, biggest plushie ever!
As he hugged it close he watched your eyes soften at the sight of it and you were in awe. He glanced at the plushie, then back at you, then back at the plushie
With that he handed the plushie to you watching your eyes grow big as you hesitantly reached out to it
"you're giving it to me?"
He nodded softly as he watched you hug it close
"are you sure?! This is the most expensive thing in the prize corner, I don't even think you can get another one! Are you re-"
"take. It."
You nodded and flashed him a huge grin before you watched him take out a pen and write on the plushie's tummy in big letters
'yuki: XXX-XX-XXXX'
"that's your name? Yuki..well yuki I'm [y/n]! I'll be sure to send lots of pictures of our new baby! Figured we can have joint custody hmm?"
Yuki have another nod as you both started to walk out, he didn't feel mentally exhausted when he was around you. You were definitely special and he wanted to know more.

Am in the mood for some angst, can you give the main 6's reaction to the apprentice dying in their arms?
Ahhhh I’m so sorry this took so long! I hope you like it!
The long awaited
Main six reacting to Mc dying in their arms
Asra
He’s trying everything he can, everything in his power to keep you alive, to keep you with him, he can’t afford to lose you again, it hurts too much, but seeing you in pain hurts even more. He’s keeping you alive with his magick, but your still in pain, he needs to make a choice, fast.
He doesn’t know how much longer he can keep you like this, crying out in pain as he tries to heal you, crying out for some one, any one to come and save you, but no one ever does. He needs to decide, does he give up and put you out of your misery, or does he wait. But how much longer can he wait? Seeing you like this hurts him as well.
But what would hurt him even more is seeing you die. Again. A second time. Round two. But this time in his arms. He couldn’t save you then. He left you too die back then. He can’t leave you, he can’t let you go, he loves you too much, he’s crying out in pain along side with you he doesn’t know what to do.
His magick stops flowing to you. You’re screaming stops. You’re crying stops. All you can hear now is Asra. His. Crying. His screaming. He lost you again, and now this time there’s no getting you back. He buries you some where nice in the woods, but he can’t bring himself to visit. Actually no one sees him again, after your death.
Nadia
Her whole motto is fake it till you make it. She’s trying. She’s trying to remain calm. She’s trying to be there for you. But the tears won’t stop coming. She feels like she failed you. She feels like she failed you just like she failed vesuvia. She’s a failure.
She doesn’t want to beleive it’s too late. She’s holding you close, pampering you with kisses, telling you that it will be okay, that it will be okay she promises everything will be fine, and the second you both get out of this she’ll spoil you silly. But she’s trying to convince herself more than you.
She knows you’re in pain. She knows. She’s sorry. She’s sorry. She’s so so so sorry. But it will be better soon, she promises. The doctors will make the pain go away she promises. But that’s a lie. The only wat to make it stop hurting is for you to die. She knows this. She’s just not ready to let go.
It isn’t until the palace guards have to physically pull her off your dead bodie does she let go. And she’s still sobbing and shaking even afterwards. She lost you. She failed you. She end up leaving vesuvia after the funeral. She might of failed you but she doesn’t want to fail the city. She can’t.
Julian
He likes to think that giving up his magick mark for his memories was one of the best things that had ever happened to him. (Right next to you of course). But now? Now? He’s regretting that. He’s smart. He’s a doctor. Sure he never went to medical school, but he trained in a bloody battle field. He can handle this right?
Wrong. He’s panicking, you’re dying, and he doesn’t know if he should hold you tighter or try to fix it. But what’s there to fix? He’s seen wounds like this before. He knows that you won’t make it out alive. He knows your going to die. But does he tell you?
Of course he doesn’t. Instead of telling you that within approximately two minutes you will be dead, he hold you close, petting your hair telling you how much he loves you and that In a couple minutes it won’t hurt any more. Telling you over and over it will be okay. He loves you. He always will love you. He’s sorry he couldn’t stop it. He’s sorry. He loves you.
He needs a minute or two. You’re dead and he’s still talking. Still petting your hair. Still crying. He blames himself. He killed you all those years ago and now he did it again. He’s a murder. He broke your trust. He broke asra’s trust. He promised him that nothing will happen to you. He’s sorry he broke it. Now the only time you see him is when he’s drowning himself at the raven. No one knows where asra is.
Portia
You’re her partner in crime! You can’t die! Not like this. This is a joke right? Some sick prank? Tell her your joking. Even if you’re not. She’s not ready to let go. She’s not ready to let you go. You helped her. You trusted her. No no no no
No you can’t die. Maybe it will be like what happened to her. Remember when she almost died for that raven blob monster, and she lived. Remember? You’re going to be fine. You’re gonna live. She doesn’t care if that was special circumstances, you’ll live. She has to believe.
She’s sorry it hurts, she’s doing everything she can to make it stop, she’s doing everything she can to help. To make you survive but she can’t and she’s sorry. She’s sorry she can’t help she’s sorry she’s crying so hard, she’s sorry you ever met her because maybe if you didn’t you’d still be alive.
But now you’re dead. She tries to act like she’s okay, after the funeral. She’s not. She’s keeping more secrets. She’s drinking like crazy. She’s hurting like crazy. She’s lashing out on her friends. This is all her fault and she’s sorry. She should of tried harder or done more. She’s sorry.
Muriel
You were the best thing that has ever happened to him. You taught him to love. You taught him that he’s worthy of love. Worthy of nice things. Worthy of you. But now you’re gone. Almost gone. Leaving him. In his own arms.
Arms that were once used to kill are now holding his dying lover as they cry out. He doesn’t know want too do. He’s sorry. He doesn’t know what to do. It’s too late. He can tell. He doesn’t want to try anything else because he doesn’t want to hurt you any more, but he can’t let you die. He can’t, your to special. You mean to much to him. To the world.
He knows you won’t last. He spends your last minutes in earth telling you, you won’t. Then telling you everything he’s ever wanted too. All the thoughts he’s ever had about you come spilling out of him like a broken dam. He can’t stop. Talking. Crying. It doesn’t matter he can’t stop. He doesn’t want too. He wants you to know. He want you to know that he loves you. He always has. He always will.
Then your gone. He’s still holding you. Shaking. Crying. Holding you the same way he hold the heart of the forest. When you first met. He couldn’t protect it. Remember? He couldn’t protect you. He couldn’t protect you. He doesn’t deserve nice things. Because the nices thing he’s ever had is now gone. The arms he once used for killing are back at it again. Carrying your limp bodie to your grave. Next to the heart. He visits you every day and talks about his day. But talks to no one else.
Lucio
He knows how scared you must feel. He was on his death bed for around a year. He knows. He knows death is scary, but you don’t t have to worry. He won’t let you die. Has he ever let anything bad happen to you before? Don’t answer that question.
He’s yelling at everyone. He’s yelling at anyone. Do something. Save them. Don’t let them die. Don’t fail them like you ‘failed’ me. But he won’t let go. He’s not going to let go. Somewhere. Something deep inside of him tells him that this will be the last time. And when he is told that it is?
He’s never sobbed so hard In his life. He’s cried hard before but never at another persons expense like this. What did he do? What did he do? What is he supposed to do. He’s crying too hard to form words, he can barley let out an I love you before you die. I love you. The last thing you hear. You don’t even get to say it back
He’s not letting go of you. He doesn’t care how long it’s been, let him have his moment. He’s not done saying good bye. When he’s done collecting him self, and done crying, he tells you everything he’s going to do with you, all the fun your going to have together. He’s not ready. He’s not ready. Please don’t take them away from him he can’t. And asra screaming at him doesn’t make him feel any better. He’s sorry.
Ahhhhh it feels good to be back writing! I’m like two days behind so I’m trying my best to get through everything, but in the meantime you can find my masterlist here!

Izumi has scoped out this park before, once she had figured out that it was where Rei took the Todoroki children. She had worried about how to not appear like some sort of creeper.
"Hurry dad!" Keigo shouted from where he was dragging Izumi the last few feet to the grass that surrounded the play equipment.
Izumi tripped over her own two feet at Keigo already calling Nezu 'dad'. Izumi dropped Keigo's hand so she wouldn't pull him to the ground with her.
Gentle hands catch Izumi by the shoulders. "Careful there dear." A woman's voice says softly in her ear, as Izumi is placed back on her feet.
"Ahhhh, thank you." Izumi yelps, turning as best she can to bow. Hands are on her shoulders again pushing her into standing again.
"Please don't." The woman is saying as she pushes.
"Izumi, is everything okay?" Nezu asks as he makes his way from where he had been talking to Keigo.
"Yea dad." Izumi says at the same time Rei gasps.
"Nezu-san" Rei starts bowing and it's Izumi's turn to stop her.
"Todoroki-san, it has been many years." Nezu greets Rei, both him and Izumi catch the flinch at the use of the last name.
"Hello, I'm Nezu Izumi, my new little brother is around here somewhere too." Izumi says softly with a small smile on her lips.
"NEE-CHAN! SHŌ-NII IS HERE WITH SOME CRAZY!" Keigo's scream cuts through the air making both females jump.
"I guess he's over there, excuse me for a moment. I will bring the others to introduce themselves." She tells the two adults and sprints to where she thought Keigo was.
"But he's so cute Shō. I want to take him home with me and never let him go!" Izumi hears Nemuri saying as she gets closer.
"Put down the rosefinch or Izumi is gonna make you hurt for scaring him." Shōta says as he catches Izumi's gaze.
Izumi crouches a little lower so she will be able to take out Nemuri's knees, she trusts Shōta to catch Keigo before he's hurt.
When she makes contact between her right shoulder and the back of Nemuris knees she stands from her crouch making the purple haired girl throw Keigo and scream like she's being murdered and she's flipped over Izumi head and lands with a heavy this.
"Little rosefinch!" Izumi calls to Keigo as she barrels into Keigo and Shōta, her hands are fluttering around them both checking for any wounds they might have.
They must not be injured because once they both stop staring at her in shock they both start to cackle, Keigo lands first on his feet then collapses to his knees as Shōta doubles over holding his stomach.
Izumi crosses her own arms over her chest and huffs at them before she turns and lightly pushes oh Nemuris side with her foot.
"Don't scare my baby bird." She growls at the other female.
Nemuri whines from where she's face down in the dirt.
"Oh get up, I know you take harder hits in training." Izumi says unimpressed with the other girl.
"Come on, dad wants us to meet some people." Izumi says at the still laughing boys and groaning girl before she starts back in the direction she had come from.
She hadn't made it very far before she sees both her dad and Rei watching the events that had just unfolded.
Izumi freezes and blushes so deeply she knows she looks like a strawberry.
"Ahhhhh, damn, there goes first impressions." She mumbles, her dad's squeaking laugh makes it known that she wasn't quiet enough.
"Come along children, Rei-san would like you to meet her children." Nezu says after he clears his throat to calm his laughter.
Izumi slides up next to her dad close enough that Rei will hear her speak as well. "Sorry dad, Nemuri was scaring our rosefinch, she wouldn't listen to Shōta so I just kinda...yeah." she apologizes.
"I'm glad you are willing to protect him, when we get him out of the commission's claws I assume they will try to get him back." Nezu has a growl in her voice as he says that and Izumi nods frantically.
"I would do it for any child being harmed, no matter who is doing the harming." She says with steel in her words and shoulders squared.
After the short exchange that has Rei sizing Izumi and Nezu up with a slightly hopeful glint in her eyes the other three had finally come to join them.
"Nee-chan you gotta teach me how to do that." Keigo says as he grabs her hand with a big toothy smile.
"When you're older, you're only seven it's too early to train you yet, you're supposed to be having fun like any kid." She tells him with a serious face. "When you are thirteen we can talk about it then."
"Rei-san, you've met Izumi, but the young boy is Keigo. The dark haired male is Aizawa Shōta, one of my students. And the female is Kayama Nemuri, a second year in the heroics course." Nezu introduces them.
"My oldest is your age, Keigo-kun." Rei says softly with a small smile. "Come I'll introduce you."
The group of five follow the slight white haired woman over to where three children and a baby are sitting quietly on a blanket.
"These are my children." Rei informs before pointing to each child as she gives their names. "Touya, Fuyumi, Natsuo, and Shoto."
Izumi steps forward to be their spokes person. "Hi I'm Nezu Izumi, this is my brother Keigo, behind me are my friends Shōta and Nemuri, we are expecting two more soon, and my dad is Nezu." Izumi waves a hand in the general direction of each person as she speaks.
"Do you want to play tag with us?" She asks, hopeful that they aren't to shelters yet to want to play.
Touya looks them over with careful eyes. "Sure, but one of you is it." He says, his voice is already raspy from the damage his fire does.
"I'll be it." Izumi chirps as the three who are old enough stand to join them. "I'll count to ten so everyone can scatter."
"One...two…" Keigo let go of her hand but grabbed onto Natsuo's, carefully running with him.
"Three...four…" Shōta looked at Touya both assessing one another before they took off in opposite directions.
"Five….six…" Nemuri had scooped Fuyumi up to get her far enough away with how far Izumi was in the count down.
"Seven…" Oboro had arrived, Izumi pauses in counting to yell at him. "Playing tag, I'm it, the white haired kids are playing, and the blonde with red wings is my rosefinch." Oboro nods and turns on his heel to go after Nemuri and Fuyumi.
"Eight...nine….ten…" Izumi starts at a sprint to where she sees Shōta.
It takes her a few tries, Shōta's legs are longer than hers, but she's faster. She finally hits his bicep before she spins on her heel with a crazed laugh and sprints to where she sees Keigo and Natsuo.
"Shōta's it." She announces loudly as she runs past the others.
Skidding to a stop near the two boys she was aiming to talk to, she squats in front of them, knowing Shōta will most likely go after Touya.
"The blue haired boy by Nemuri and Fuyumi is my friend Oboro, he's kinda loud and silly and very protective." She lets the two boys know before she ruffles their hair and heads over to the adults to let Rei know about Oboro.
Izumi stopped and kneeled on the edge of the blanket, she quickly carded her hand through silky soft red and white hair on Shotos head before she met Rei's eyes.
"My friend just arrived a few minutes ago, he has blue hair, his name is Shirakumo Oboro, he is also in the same class with Shōta and myself. The last one who is coming is Yamada Hizashi, another classmate, he spikes his blond hair up, but I'm sure dad will point him out when he arrives." Izumi explains, she feels her eyes flickering down to Shoto often.
"Touya's it." Izumi hears Shōta yell out to everyone.
"Ah, that's my cue." She laughs lightly before she's back on her feet and running.
"Fuyumi's it." Touya's raspy voice calls next.
"Ne-Nemuri's it." A high childish voice calls moments after.
Nemuri seems to have set her sights on Izumi, she's sprinting towards the green haired girl at a speed faster than Izumi has seen her move before.
Izumi evades being tagged a few time before she feels a slap on her shoulder.
"Izumi's it." Nemuri calls, Izumi pauses to catch her breath, she sees Hizashi in the corner of her eye and starts off running towards Natsuo and Keigo again.
This time both boys run, Keigo is helping Natsuo stay on his feet and urging him to keep running, Izumi is stupidly proud of him for thinking of others already.
Izumi runs a few paces behind them swiping her hand out every few moments, she's making it look like she's trying hard to catch them, they've made their way across the park when Izumi touches Keigo's shoulder lightly.
"Ah, just a ten seconds time out." She says quickly once the two have stopped. "Hizashi is here, he is the other blond boy talking to your mom, okay Natsuo?"
"Uh huh." The boy is panting hard, he's only four.
Izumi scoops him up in her arms and calls out. "Keigo's it, Hizashi is here and in play."
Keigo starts to run at Hizashi who squeals like a pig and takes off at a run that's just out of Keigo's reach, he only runs for around half a minute before Izumi sees a small hand land on his back.
"Zashi-nii it!" Keigo calls out then he runs towards Izumi had last seen Touya.
There is a scream and the sound of bodies colliding, Izumi stops and sees Hizashi laying on top of Shōta, who thankful seems to have given Fuyumi to Oboro.
There are two loud groans before Hizashi is popping back to his feet and slipping a little of his quirk into his voice.
"Shōta's it."
Shōta growls, and Izumi isn't really sure why her heart skips a beat at the sound.
She's not really running fast enough to avoid Shōta, but instead of her arm he taps it's Natsuo's.
"Natsuo's it." Shōta calls and take off.
"You good to run again?" Izumi asks before she puts him on his feet.
"Uh huh." The little white hairs boy nods.
Izumi runs away slowly, she looks over her shoulder to see Natsuo running as fast as his little legs can carry him to Touya.
Izumi runs so she can scoop up the boy again once he has tagged his brother.
"Tou-nii it." Natsuo's little voice is just loud enough to hear.
Touya waits for Izumi to be close enough to pick up Natsuo before he takes off focus fully on Oboro. He's a little rough when his hand slaps Oboro's hip.
The blue haired boy looks around and spots Hizashi close by, he jogs over to the blond and deposits a sleepy Fuyumi into his arms.
Izumi grins a little at the dopey smile on Hizashi's face when he looks at the little girl.
"Nee-chan, I sleepy." Natsuo says and shoves his face firmly into her shoulder.
Izumi rubs his back and slowly walks over to the adults. "Okay Natsuo, I am going to put you down and grab your sister, then we can all nap together." She tells him softly before sitting him by Nezu.
"Natsuo, Fuyumi, and Izumi are out." She calls to the other as she jogs to meet Hizashi to take the sleeping girl.
Once she's back on the blanket Izumi has both small white haired children cuddled into her lap and around each other as she watches the others play, keeping a close eye of Touya and Keigo.
"You know Rei-san...I don't mean to be rude, but what if dad and I could get you all away?" Izumi asks without looking at the woman, she knows Nezu didn't bring this up, they had agreed that Izumi would, because if I child can tell that they are being abused then other can and are ignoring it.
"There is an officer, Tsukauchi, he has a lie detector quirk, I can get the evidence, you just have to give it to him and move your things into our home." Izumi keeps speaking. "I hate seeing children hurt, dad saved me, and we are saving Keigo, let us save you and yours as well."
Izumi finishes what she's saying just before Touya and Keigo both collapse near her with tired huffs, Izumi doesn't think as she reaches out to both boys and starts to finger comb their hair, humming a very old prequirk song.
As soon as everyone under the age of nine is asleep around her the other teens come and join them, Nemuri is dramatically telling them about Izumi flipping her but she's quiet enough none of the kids wake up.
Izumi can't help but smile and send her thanks to Eri, who she will save this time before anything even hurts her.

This is a terrible, terrible idea I keep repeating myself.
If I’d shown a little more steadiness with my sister I wouldn’t be in this situation. I knew she was nervous about presenting her girlfriend to the family, specially to our father. And because she is extra as hell, she couldn’t choose another date that wasn’t on Christmas Eve. For weeks now she’d been texting me, grumbling about how was she going to be able to pull it off. I told her to relax and just go with it.
What I didn’t expect though, was for Vivi to arrive out of nowhere to the school where I work, talking nonsense about me bringing a fake date to dinner with hopes of taking the attention away from her.
After spending 15 minutes trying to convince her it is not necessary for me to do that, her insistence is such I end up babbling how bad that idea is since I already have a boyfriend, and fake dating someone else would certainly create problems.
Big mistake.
Looking at me with something like betrayal in her eyes, now she starts questioning me about that boyfriend who I’d never talked about before. I bite my lip. When it comes to personal stuff I prefer to keep it private, even with my own family. I have my reasons.
And just because luck is not on my side today, in the middle of her inquiries I hear a faint “Hey, babe!” behind me. I groan. Of course. Of course he had to arrive in that moment.
We both turn to look at him. Cardan approaches us wearing that mischievous grin reserved only for me, so different from the polite smile he uses with his students. His hair is tied up in a bun as he also wears it for work, few curls escaping it in the most adorable way.
With a pang of panic, I notice Vivi noticing how dumbfounded I’m looking at him. Her eyes light up in a way that I know means nothing good. I frown at her.
“I was looking for you on the cafeteria, one of your students told me you were here.” He pauses. “I- didn’t notice you were busy though, sorry.”
“Not at all!” Vivi says with exaggerated enthusiasm. “I’m Jude’s older sister, Vivi! You must be her lovely boyfriend.”
“Oh, yeah I am. Nice to meet you!” If I didn’t know him so well I wouldn’t notice the slight blush on his cheeks or the way he looks at me in contained alarm.
It’s too late by the time I put the pieces together. When I realize what is about to happen, my sister is already handing Cardan a rolled piece of paper.
“I came to make sure Jude invites you to our family Christmas dinner! She’s so absentminded sometimes isn’t she?”
I’m going to kill her. Slowly.
Horrified, I stand there and see Cardan take the invitation, grinning. His polite, charming smile.
“I wouldn’t miss it,” He says. “Thank you so much Vivi.”
My sister turns to me and whatever look it’s on my face makes her hesitate. Although, not enough. She claps her hands once and makes an excited squeal. “Well I must go now! But I’m so excited you’re coming to join us Cardan, see you there. Ciao!”
With that she turns and leaves.
-
So here we are. My boyfriend driving by my side, as we are about to arrive to my parent’s house.
My knee bounces without control as I twist my scarf between my fingers. At any moment now, I’m sure my heart is going to bolt out of my chest.
“Jude dear, is everything ok?” He asks. I notice I’ve been quiet almost the entire road.
I turn to look at him. He looks dashing, even if it’s not a strictly formal dinner he always finds a way to dress as it was. Black ensemble and green scarf that stands out his pale skin, though his nose and cheeks have a touch of color because of the cold weather.
“Yeah it’s just... My family is a little,” I pause. “I don’t know how to explain it.”
We are not the type of family that introduces romantic partners, ever. My twin sister tried to do it some years ago with a terrible and embarrassing outcome. At some point in the middle of breakfast, she’d asked her daddy to pass the salt. Both our father and Locke moved to grab it at the same time. What came next, well… if that Locke dude had restrained himself to make a sarcastic and really tacky comment about it, maybe he would still be welcome in the house. Alas, he is not.
Ever since that day, every time someone brings a guest to the house my father gets in a mood that is pretty uncomfortable for everyone. Sooner or later he makes everyone run. Not exactly the first impression I want Cardan to have.
We’ve been together for some time now, about eleven months. But the topic of introducing our families has never been on the table so far. I know he comes from a problematic family even if he doesn’t talk much about them. As for me, I have to admit I’ve grown so attached to him that I’m terrified of Madoc, or any other of my relatives, scaring him away.
He takes my hand in his, warming it, and smiles softly. “It’ll be ok. Breathe.”
I sigh, hoping he’s right and grip his hand tighter.
The inside of the house looks as if Santa’s bag had exploded. There are lights and ornaments everywhere. Even the tree is bigger than previous years. A delicious smell of food fills the place. As I stare in awe I hear voices coming from the living room.
“Jude? Is that you?” Hurried steps sound in the wooden floor and a few seconds later my little brother appears wearing an absurd red and white onesie. He crashes against me and I laugh, hugging him back.
“You do realize that’s for little kids don’t you?” I ask. “It looks good on you, though.”
Oak scoffs and pulls back. “Well of course it does. I look good on everything.”
Cardan chuckles next to me and for the first time my brother notices him. His eyes and mouth open widely, blinking at him and then turning back at me. Once. Twice.
“Jude,” He murmurs. It cracks me up how shy he can get around new people. “Who’s this?”
Ah, here we go. I take a deep breath and grab Cardan’s hand again.
“Don’t be rude,” I warn him. “His name is Cardan. Cardan, this is my brother Oak.”
Cardan greets him, extending his hand to him. Oak shakes it, visibly puzzled. “And Cardan is…?”
“My boyfriend.”
A slow, mocking and devilish smile spreads on his face. I swear to god that kid was taken out from the movie Cheaper by the Dozen. All the shyness is suddenly gone.
“You and Vivi are really trying to give dad a heart attack today aren’t you?” He turns to Cardan and adopts a serious expression I almost believe. “Please tell me Jude doesn’t call you daddy.”
“OAK!” I hiss. I look at Cardan and he gazes back with amusement, I notice he’s biting back a laugh.
“WHAT? I need to know earlier if I need to take my phone out, last time I didn’t have time to record when dad…” He motions with his hand. Yeah, I remember.
“She doesn’t.” Cardan affirms. Mimicking my brother’s mischievous smile he asks. “Is there a story there I need to know?”
Oak hesitates, even though I’m sure he’s dying to spill it out.
“Taryn would kill you.” I remind him.
“She’s not coming. For what I’ve heard, either it’s Locke’s turn to visit his family or something about dad running him under the car if he dared appearing. I’m not sure.”
Great.
“What if I beat you at Mario Kart?” Cardan asks, pointing at the console resting next to the tv.
Oak squints at him. “Are you challenging me?”
“It’s not a challenge when I know I’m going to win.”
Turning to me, my brother grins. “I like him.”
-
I know this is the first time I’ve brought someone home, but still I don’t know if I should be offended at my parent’s surprised faces. Oak had to tell my mother twice that Cardan is my boyfriend before she nods in understanding.
On his side, Cardan is being the full gentleman. To be fair he always is, but I notice the extra effort he’s doing today. It warms my heart. The only sign of nervousness I notice in him are occasional deep breaths he takes when he thinks no one is watching.
We get to meet Heather too, who is adorable and I honestly don’t know how on earth she fell in love with my lunatic sister. In a matter of minutes Cardan is already friends with her which helps with her evident tension. Vivi seems to relax as well.
Christmas music plays on the background as we eat. This is probably my favorite part of the evening. Don’t get me wrong, I love gatherings with my family but food calls me on a spiritual level. Cardan knows it too, chuckling at my excitement while I’m serving us mashed potatoes.
“So, Cardan.” My father starts, serving the wine. My heart leaps in my chest, oh no. “You met my daughter at work?”
He nods. “Yes sir, I arrived there about two years ago. I teach preschool and first grade.” Winking at me he adds. “Jude used to hate me.”
Madoc turns to me, frowning. “What happened?” I roll my eyes, classical worried dad.
I take a long drink from my wine and shrug. “Nothing, he stole the ‘best teacher award’ from me, on his first six months. I’m pretty sure he bribed the students that year.”
To my surprise, my father barks a laugh. We all stare at him wide-eyed.
“Keep repeating that to yourself, love.” Cardan teases. “It was a clean triumph.”
“You’ve always been competitive Jude, that’s no secret.” Vivi adds. “It’s nice to finally meet someone who can pull up with that.”
I turn to glare at her. You and I are going to talk later. She sticks out her tongue at me.
“Do you guys have sex?”
“Oak!” My mother shouts as my father and I both choke on our wine.
-
When Cardan parks the car outside my apartment it’s already past midnight.
Surprisingly, this turned out to be one of the best Christmas celebrations I’ve ever had. My boyfriend somehow managed to not only avoid any uncomfortable moments around my family but also to wrap them up around his little finger. With jokes and tales about us the night had passed incredibly fast.
Toasts were made, hugs and gifts were given. By the end, we were sprawled on the floor wearing silly sweaters and watching the merciless Mario Kart match between Oak and Cardan. It ended up in a tie. Rematch was already set for New Year’s Eve.
It was everything I never thought it would be.
“Well, did Vivi’s plan work?” Cardan asks.
I turn to find him already looking at me with a knowing smile on his face. Still, it doesn’t reach his eyes.
“C’me on, you weren’t really planning on inviting me to your family’s dinner. Something was surely going on the day she gave me the invitation.”
Sighing I whisper. “I’m sorry.”
He knows me too well, more than I even know myself sometimes.
“Don’t be, it’s not a topic we usually discuss.” He shrugs, reaching my hand with his. His thumb makes slow circles on my skin “Still, I should’ve asked if it was ok with you. Forgive me if I crossed a line.”
“You didn’t. I just wasn’t planning for you to meet my family yet.” I regret those words the moment they leave my mouth, knowing how they sound. Cardan doesn’t let go of my hand but he stops his ministrations. “Wait, that wasn’t…”
“Jude, it’s ok.” He says, turning to the windshield. I know him well enough too, and notice the touch of sadness behind his words.
“No it’s not. Please listen.” I insist, my heart is beating fast now. That look on his eyes is exactly what I tried to avoid the whole night. “The reason why I wasn’t thinking to introduce you to my family is that they’re ridiculously hard and annoying with every new person that visits. And this is the first time I took someone home and…I don’t know, I-”
“You thought I’d leave?” He turns his gaze back to me, warily.
At the beginning of the day I did. But I don’t find the words to admit it, so I don’t answer.
After a moment of silence he asks “Do you want to know why I agreed to go?”
I swallow and nod. Cardan inhales deeply..
“We’ve been together for some time now. And you know, you must know, I’m not playing around Jude.” I start to say something but he silences me with a soft finger against my lips. “I love you. If I agreed to whatever scheme your sister had in mind it was because I wanted to show you that I’m not going away. No matter what.”
“My family…”
“They love you. It’s only natural for them to ask what my intentions are… and maybe tease us about it too. I’m willing to admit your dad is a little scary. But not enough to make me run away.” He winks, cupping my face.“There is nothing on earth that would make me want to run away, Jude. That’s how much I love you.”
Feeling my eyes sting I blink. “I love you too.”
We’ve said those words before. But I find that they acquire a different meaning, somehow deeper. My chest is suddenly too small to hold everything I feel for this man. He’s not going anywhere. He loves me. I’m grinning like an idiot and I’m proud of it.
I lean to rest my forehead against his. “Since it’s our first Christmas together… and you already met my family.” His smile widens at that. “Would you like to stay the night?”
“There’s nothing I would like more.” Cardan angles his head to give me a kiss that I accept gladly, coiling my arms around his neck. “I usually spend Christmas alone, I guess it’s time for new traditions.”
We remain entwined for some minutes, it fastly turns into something hotter and desperate. I’m already straddling his hips when I pull back a few inches. I bet my lips are as swollen as his. He is looking at me with hunger… and love.
“How about a tradition in which we spend Christmas night undressed and watching some crappy Netflix movies?” I suggest.
My toes curl when he leans to bite my lobe and purrs. “Yes, please.”

Hey, I was wondering if you have a book rec
!!
Okay so in full disclosure, I have a really hard time reading books. My brain sometime around six years ago just decided that wasn't its style anymore, so I don't read a TON. A lot of these aren’t going to be recent releases. However, here are a bunch of books I would absolutely recommend checking out! I tried to include a variety of genres but I have uh.....five bookshelves in my apartment so if you're looking for more of a certain genre let me know!
Theatre:
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead - Tom Stoppard
Waiting for Godot - Samuel Beckett
These are my two favorite plays - they're both absurdist, humorous, and have some fun things to say. They’re both by old white guys but like....I love both Tom Stoppard and Samuel Beckett DEEPLY and they have all of my love and respect.
Non-Fiction/Educational:
Why are all the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria by Beverly Daniel Tatum - this is considered a 'classic' on the psychology of racism, and was particularly helpful for me as a white person in arming myself against 'reverse racism' thoughts and in dissembling my own prejudices. This is mostly a rec for other white folks, but Tatum also addresses 'having the courage to sit at the black table' as a way of claiming your own identity outside of the stereotypes the dominant society expects of you.
Daring Greatly by Brene Brown - Okay listen I just really REALLY love Brene Brown, she is a therapist most famous for her TED talk about Vulnerability and this is just...listen I really like to read this book when I am sad and feel like shit because it makes me feel strong. I reread this book at least once a year.
Imagined Communities by Benendict Anderson - This is an absolutely fascinating read on the rise of nationalism. It’s a bit dry and wordy, but the ideas and use of history as propaganda, spinning the story of a nation to pit it against or on the same side as other nations, and the ways in which these tactics shaped cultural history is just!!!! Amazing.
Gay New York by George Chauncey - This is just one of the most informative and interesting reads of queer history in New York that I’ve ever come across. It’s one of the ‘must reads’ of queer history and has so many interesting tidbits that I have to recommend it. It’s a bit old(published in 1994) but I still find it relevant and interesting to read.
Personal Fiction/Autobiographical Fiction
White Girls by Hilton Als - I went to a reading of this book when it first came out. It was so much fun and so eye-opening for me as a baby queer in NYC that I bought the book there. I wanna be really clear that Als does not pull punches and a lot of people don’t quite like it, but I love Als’ style of writing. The stories and essays in this book are amazing and funny and heartbreaking and informative of queer experience - particularly black queer experience - that I always feel like...honored? to experience through writing? This is one of those ‘you’re gonna suffer but you’re gonna be happy about it’ reads - it can be hard to face because of how very hard the pills are to swallow but like....gosh I just love this book and it’s interesting and hilarious and great.
Confessions of an Economic Hitman by John Perkins - this is my tin hat favorite. It hits....ugh. This is one of those books that came out and like every government agency freaked the fuck out over it. It’s an interesting look into the quote-unquote dark underbelly of capitalism; how and why countries manipulate each other through economic policies. Super interesting read with a nice style of prose.
The Know-It-All: One Man's Humble Quest to become the Smartest Person in the World by A.J. Jacobs Okay so full disclosure I have not finished reading this, but I’m far enough through to rec it. This book chronicles the author’s attempt to read the entire Encyclopedia Brittanica from front to back, and it is just as kooky and hilarious as it sounds. I am very incredibly and deeply offended this author stole both my schtick and my initials, thereby preventing me from doing this exact thing. I read through the phone book in its entirety when I was three. I had it in me. Anyway, this is basically the author just listing weird interesting facts he’s read about and connecting them to his daily life, but it’s a fun read, and you learn a lot of totally useless facts, which is absolutely my jam.
When Skatboards Will Be Free by Saïd Sayrafiezadeh - HI I LOVE THIS BOOK. I’ve read it maybe three times over. It’s so fun and interesting. You may notice that a lot of the books I rec are very absurdist in their humor, and this is no exception. This book is full of the dry wit and just weird goddamn shit you could only expect from the child of a revolution that never came. You want to read a book about someone who Went Through Shit? Read this book. It’s funny and heartbreaking and just. AHHHH. Seriously I cannot recommend this enough.
Hyperbole and a Half by Allie Brosch - FIGHT ME ON THIS. I love this book.....so much. Yes it’s technically a comic book but the stories are so INTERESTING and hilarious and full of exactly the dry absurdist humor I eat the fuck up. Also! Allie Brosch recently released a sequel of sorts called Solutions and Other Problems that I recommend without even reading it.
Poetry
Pansy by Andrea Gibson - IF YOU ARE NOT READING THE POETRY OF ANDREA GIBSON WHAT ARE YOU EVEN DOING WITH YOUR LIFE. I cried seven times reading this book. There are only like 14 poems. Please please read this to break your own queer heart :)
Bloodsport by Yves Olade - This is a tiny book full of absolutely devastating poetry. Most of it has to do with the grief of relationships, but like....gosh I love all of Olade’s stuff. (Also!! This is available as a pay-what-you-wish pdf!!)
Bright Dead Things by Ada Limón - This book focuses a lot on the author’s experiences of loss, and knowing that loss is going to happen. I’m completely devastated every time I read this.
Science Fiction/Fantasy
The Bartimeaus Sequence by Jonathan Stroud - So what if I am a dumb millennial I love this series. It’s another dry and deadpan humor, with weird additions and Stroud’s use of footnotes to absolutely crack me the fuck up means I gotta rec this. I just gotta. Four(I think?) books following the deeply unlikeable Nathaniel and his Djinn Bartimaeus, who just wants to eat humans and have a deeply enjoyable enemies to lovers plotline with his arch rival.
The Magic's Price Trilogy by Mercedes Lackey - Okay I know I’ve recced this before. I will rec it again. This was the very first series I ever read that featured a gay protagonist and I was. Devastated? Reformed? I latched onto Vanyel Ashkevron and I am never letting this depressed emo boy go. Try me, I bite. Seriously, this book was released in the 80s and yet it is still relevant, I still cry - god i LOVE this series SO MUCH. And, MERCEDES LACKEY actually invented unbury your gays, sorry I make the rule on that one. :) Also there are magic talking horses??????? Seriously please read this series I love it so much.
Fire Bringer & The Sight by David Clement-Davies - This is another series that was absolutely formative in my baby lexicon. These are books about magical animals and their inner societal workings and both books address the ideas of good, evil, darkness, compassion and good will, and destiny. I am obsessed with these books, they are some of the most interesting of the genre I’ve read, and so incredibly intricately written. LOVE these books.
Vampire Earth Series by E. E. Knight - The Witcher before it was cool. Sort of but like...there are schools of Cat, Bear, etc and it has COOL VAMPIRES I LOVE THSI SERIES. Basically, earth has been taken over by a race of alien ‘Vampires’ and follows a human involved in the resistance. The writing in this series is...wow. It’s so intricate and interesting and involved. I own the whole series because I love it so much, including the after-series hardback novels. I’m so messy and I love it.
Kindred by Octavia Butler - You know how people are like ‘YOU SHOULD READ OCTAVIA BUTLER!!’ ? You should absolutely do that. This novel is mindblowing and interesting and the pace and narrative are so so so interesting. Heartbreaking, god, horrific. Butler is an amazing writer and this novel, while my personal favorite, is not by any means the only of her books I would recommend. STORIES. STORIES!!!!!!!
Fiction
The Ballad of Barnabas Pierkiel: A Novel by Magdalena Zyzak - This book is so fucking good. It’s imaginative, funny, intelligent....it’s honestly one of the best fiction novels I’ve ever read. Again, dry, absurdist humor, this book sort of reminds me of Terry Pratchett’s style of writing.
The Call of the Wild by Jack London - This is a classic, a true classic. The social commentary of this book is so so good, London’s style flows and, personally, as a dog and animal expert, the anthropomorphisation of Buck and his fellow animals is just so well done. I love this book, it’s quite an easy read, and I reread it at least once a year.
Rolling the R's by R. Zamora Linmark - Okay. Okay okay!!!!!! I gotta take a deep breath about this one. This book is. Yuh. This is a bit younger leaning than the other fictions, focusing almost entirely on high school level characters, however the experiences and commentary is just so so good. Focusing on a diverse group of characters growing up in Hawaii in the 1970′s, this book addresses the intersectionalities of gender, sexuality, race, immigration, education, and how we define who we are. I’m obsessed.
A Separate Peace by John Knowles - A heartbreaking novel about war, innocence, adolescence, and how we hide from our truths. It’s...so good, this book hurts me a LOT okay. The prose is phenomenal, the story is poignant, and it feels like I’m ripping my own heart out with a fishhook every time I finish it.
The Toss of a Lemon by Padma Viswanathan - This is one of those books I half recommend because it’s so good, and half because of the deep wealth of knowledge it presents the reader. The author’s use of her own culture is just....goddddddddd. Intricate and interesting and so delicately included in the narrative that you can feel the love the author has for it. It’s a long read and it took me almost a month to get through reading every day, but god. It’s so soft and amazingly written I both wanted to read it all at once and take my time with it. This is another one that deals with the duality of humanity and how we connect with one another. Ahhhhhhhhh!!!!
P.S. Your Cat Is Dead by James Kirkwood Jr. - I love this book I love this book I LOVE THIS BOOK. It’s fucking hilarious, entertaining, I literally laughed out loud at every single chapter. Hilarious and poignant and surprisingly deep, this book literally follows the journey of a man in which literally everything that could go wrong does. It’s fucking hilarious.
I hope that helped and gave you some new books!!! <3

Essays in Existentialism: Stud 9
Previously on Stud
“It’s been awhile.”
“Near a decade?”
“Well there was that convention in Prague. Maybe six, seven years ago?”
“And the reunion at the Hargrove Estate.”
“The presentations in Oslo?”
“I think… I think that was right around when m mom--” Lexa furrowed as she tried to place the time that seemed to slip away from them. “I guess Prague was the last time.”
“Five years then,” her old friend from college nodded thoughtfully. “Time is a dangerous thing. I hate it.”
The lounge was intimate, dimly lit and clean, freshly modeled despite being an ancient and ritzy institution in its own right. Dark woods were illuminated by soft lights, large paintings covered the walls in dark gold frames. The chairs were velvet and the drinks were perfectly crafted from the best labels. The clamor of the familiar crowd in suits and ties and diamonds and dresses was just a murmur behind their secluded table
Maggie James hadn’t changed a bit, just matured into a fulfilled version of herself, or so Lexa liked to imagine. She still had deep brown eyes and a heart-shaped face. Still had a soft smile. Her hair was cut shorter now, above the shoulders and wavy. Her demeanor was more assured, more herself, than the unsure girl in college, or even the graduate assistant at a presentation in Prague.
“I have to say, I hadn’t expected to hear from the CFO of one of the largest companies on the planet after reading my lowly article and research.”
“I don’t know about lowly,” Lexa smiled after sipping her drink. “I thought it was a good article. And your research was thorough.”
“I just observe and postulate. Those other companies were the ones doing the hard part.”
She was naturally demure. Maggie was not someone who had to work for a living. Her family owned an ancient merchant conglomerate and she was vaguely related to a Kennedy and a Duke or something. And though she had her phases, Lexa remembered her from school as someone who wanted to do her own thing. She didn’t cut up her black card, but she sure didn’t care to rely simply by biding her time. Lexa always liked that.
They hadn’t been especially close, just gravitated to similar circles and were in the same degree program, naturally leading to an affiliation that boarded somewhere between acquaintances who knew too much and friends with no actual ties.
The real surprise had been when Maggie actually returned the phone call Lexa gave after a few weeks of obsessing over the research and generally annoying her girlfriend with facts and tidbits, filling up a notebook with her own questions, ideas, and things she’d read. She’d garnered a lot of attention with her article and research. It almost wasn’t worth it for her to return the call of a somewhat acquaintances, somewhat friend that she hadn’t seen or heard from in upwards of six years. But Lexa’s last name was on buildings in almost ever major city, and regardless, she got a return call.
“I did call you about the article, but also to catch up,” Lexa promised.
“And remember those good times in college?”
“We did have a few of those, didn’t we?” she grinned, looking over her glass, earning a shaking head and heavy sigh and smile.
“Much to my girlfriend’s chagrin.”
“You actually told her some stories?” Maggie raised her eyebrows and chuckled. “And she let you come tonight?”
“Encouraged it actually. She’s sick of hearing me rave about your work and research. I’m allowed to have an intellectual crush on you, and that’s it.”
“She’s a saint.”
“You have no idea,” Lexa agreed and signaled for another round. “Last I heard, you were engaged to some Lockeridge. Didn’t work out?”
Maggie held up her hand and wiggled an empty ring finger.
“He didn’t particularly care that I was interested in anything other than the usual marriage retirement activities like kids and needlepoint or whatever.”
“A shame.”
“I heard you decided to go outside of the pool or acceptables,” Maggie shrugged. “I only have a few questions: How, and how did your father take it?”
“You know my dad. He wouldn’t know acceptable if it shook his hand. He actually adores Clarke. And it was sheer luck. She just happened to be best friends with a mechanic I use to fix up old cars.”
“Kismet.”
“How did your parent’s take the loss of a Lockeridge hyphenation?”
“Mom went into full mourning, black outfits for a week and three weeks in Italy,” Maggie recited as Lexa laughed. “Dad complained about his lost deposits on venues.”
“And now?”
“Now, I research sustainable and ethical management in corporations.”
“I meant--”
“I don’t even own a car, so I haven’t run into any mechanics, and I was almost hoping you’d broken up with your saint and that’s why you’d called.”
“It actually our three year anniversary next month.”
“Disgusting. You’re buying the drinks.”
They both shared a smile and shook their heads, amused at themselves and the situation of their lives, both wondering how they hadn’t taken the time to be better friends, although a few drunken make outs had certainly ended any hopes of that back then.
“I’m assuming you want to talk to me about the article and your company?”
“I was having fun catching up, but I take sex off the table and now you’re all business.”
“I know your time is valuable, and I don’t want you to think you have to waste it catching up,” she explained, leaving Lexa slightly baffled.
“Your time is valuable too, and honestly, I am kind of having fun catching up. I kind of fell out with the old gang after Mom.”
“I heard you did the falling.”
“Probably,” Lexa nodded in agreement as she swapped out her empty glass for a new one. “I worked myself raw for three years straight.”
“But you still hear some of the rumblings from the old guard?”
“Some. Care to fill me in on more before I proposition you?”
“Intellectually?”
“Strictly.”
Maggie took a large sip from her drink and eyed the girl across from her, at ease and amused at their conversation, ever charming and wildly sexy without even meaning to do it, Lexa was someone who made her attention feel like nothing else mattered, and anyone would want to be within her company to experience it. All were welcome, but it was a blessing to hold her focus for an extended period of time, in any capacity. Maggie remembered making out with her in the bathroom of a club. She remembered making out with her at a party on the Lower East Side. She remembered Lexa’s messy waves, leather jacket, and fiery eyes that remained, even a decade later. But they weren’t for her anymore, and she was alright with the disappointment if it meant working with her.
“Did you know Emma Hunton-Blather?”
“Not biblically.”
“I wouldn’t imagine so. She’s an ultra-religious mommy blogger now.”
“Yikes,” Lexa winced.
“And Francine Christenson already divorced twice.”
“I think I saw one of those.”
The evening was easy. The drinks flowed and the two caught up with their previous acquaintances. Lexa was grateful that it was going well considering how nervous she was about approaching an almost stranger.
The drinks kept coming and before she could talk shop, Lexa was drunk and just enjoyed having fun.
XXXXXXXXX
“I love her.”
“Oh god, not this again,” Clarke groaned, rolled over, and tugged the pillow with her over her head.
“Not like I love you. I just am fascinated by her research.”
“Is that what you call her boobs?”
“Oh no,” Lexa shook her head, wobbling slightly as she plunked down on the edge of the bed and began awkwardly tugging off her shoes. “I can’t even seen boobs that aren’t yours boobs. I am boob-blind now.”
Despite herself, Clarke smiled at her drunken girlfriend. It wasn’t often that she came out, and when Drunk Lexa did, she often enjoyed it. There wasn’t any jealousy against Maggie James, just that Clarke liked a little more attention than she was getting with this new project. She also wished this old project hadn’t made out with her girlfriend, but that was neither here nor there. She’d feel the same way if Lexa was obsessed with recycling. She’d hate it and vote for global warming to make her stop fixating.
Before she could finish with her shoes, Lexa flopped backwards, fully clothed and half on the bed.
“Clarke. Hey, are you sleeping?”
“No, darling. I’m up.”
“I wish I’d never made out with Maggie, because I think we could have been have friends.”
“Good. Keep not making out with her and you can be.”
“Ahhhh,” Lexa pointed at Clarke and laughed before letting her arm fall back down.
“Plus, you could use more friends.”
“Nah. I don’t.”
“You do.”
Clarke moved, putting the book she’d fallen asleep reading on the night stand and moving her way around the bed to help the pitiful thing that couldn’t get undressed. She stayed at Lexa’s strictly because it meant sloppy drunk needy Lexa. She also expected her about two hours earlier.
“You need more friends. It’s good to have them.”
“I have Gus,” Lexa listed, counting on her fingers as her girlfriend tugged off her shoes for her. “And Aden, and Anya, and Dad, and Indra, and um. And Maggie. And, um… uh…”
“Only one of those are age appropriate, not related to you, and not salaried.”
“And you! You’re my best friend. Who needs more than that?”
She didn’t mean to, but Clarke smiled at that as she moved to unbutton Lexa’s shirt, earning a smile and laugh despite already closed eyes.
“Oh, are you getting me naked, Ms. Griffin? Naughty naughty.”
“How much did you drink?”
“A little bit.”
Clarke just shook her head and pulled Lexa up so she could pull off the shirt. She moves to the pants next, instructing her to lift her butt so she could tug them off. Lexa remained fairly still as Clarke searched for a spare shirt for her to sleep in.
“Hey, hey, Clarke. Hey,” Lexa called in a whisper.
“Hm?”
“You really are my best friend.”
Clarke smiled, her cheeks growing warm as she slid the shirt over the drunk’s arms and head, careful not to poke an eye or pull hair. Tenderly, she got a rag from the bathroom and wiped her face as best she could, earning almost purrs of contentment with the treatment.
“Are you ready for me to fuck you?” Lexa ventured, wiggling her eyebrows. “I’ve been thinking about it all night.”
“You’re drunk.”
“And you’re beautiful.” Clarke pushed her girlfriend’s shoulders so that she fell back in bed easily. “Perfect. You can be on top.”
“Get under the covers. It’s time for bed.”
“Fine, but you should know that I am a good lay.”
“I’m aware,” Clarke grinned as Lexa climbed in obediently.
“I’m like really good at giving you orgasms. And you seem to like them.”
“Oh, I do. But I’m tired and you’re drunk.”
“Those are two true facts,” Lexa nodded and yawned, rolling into her usual spot. Her arm was held open until Clarke joined her in bed.
The lights off and the pair finally ready for bed, Clarke snuggled into her spot and felt Lexa’s warmth, enjoying the feeling of having her back.
“Hey Lex?” Clarke whispered as arms held her tightly.
“Change your mind about sex?” Lexa returned. “I’m still down.”
“No. I just wanted to tell you that you’re my best friend, too.”
“Good.”
Her arms pulled tighter and Lexa kissed Clarke’s shoulder before falling into a very contented drunken slumber.
XXXXXXXXX
Lexa loved her office. She loved that it was quiet and that even though she had taken a smaller role in th day to day operations, it was still there for her to work, uninterrupted and unimpeded. She loved her desk. She loved her view. She loved the certainty that came behind sitting her name plate, as if it told her who she was. There was a certain power that she took from it all.
“Thanks for coming down,” Lexa offered as Maggie took a seat across from her desk. “I think i forgot to explain what interested me most about your research at drinks the other night.”
“Yeah I think the fourth round of whisky made it a little difficult to keep track of complex ideas.”
“I had a good time.”
“Me too.”
“My girlfriend let me know that I need more friends. The problem being that I don’t particularly like or trust most people.”
“Or you’re too busy to put the effort into it. I get it. Trust me,” Maggie nodded, relaxing slightly as Anya brought in some coffee and placed it between them. “Thank you.”
“I was told that all my friends work for me or are related to me,” Lexa explained as she sipped her coffee. “And even though I would consider us friends, or potentially friends. I want to hire you.”
“I already have a job.”
“Yes, but I have lots of money.”
Maggie snorted at that, smiling, amused at Lexa’s candor.
“I have lots of money too.”
“I knew you would say that. I also knew that there wasn’t much I could offer you to sway you away from a fun research and doctoral position at a great university. I’m sure you find teaching rewarding.”
Lexa stood from her desk and grabbed a folder from the corner, carefully looking it over in her hands.
“The interesting thing I found in your report was that you were advocating for a system that not one single major corporation would even contemplate putting into existence.”
“I’m sure some--”
“Free housing? College tuition? Four day work weeks? Work from home? Private insurance? Officer salary cuts? Who in there right mind is going to do that?”
“I thought you were interested in my research.”
“I am. Because my job was killing me. And I have a hypothesis for you.”
“I think that’s my job.”
“You haven’t accepted yet,” Lexa reminded her as she leaned against the front of her desk. “If I implement your suggestions, will I not hate my job anymore?”
“There’s no way for me to measure that.”
“True. Will I feel better if we are a more ethical and knowledgeable company?”
“Yes.”
“Will we turn a profit?”
“According to my data, yes. Although the scale of your business,” Maggie shook her head. “I wouldn’t even know where to start hypothesizing on when.”
“Hypothetically,” Lexa continued, smiling at how easy it was to get her interested. “What would you need to start testing your hypothesis? In real time. At this company.”
There was a quiet that settled as Maggie stared at the CFO. Long and tall, Lexa crossed her arms over her chest, the mystery folder tucked under her arm. Her shirt was folded precisely up to her elbow, her collar pressed and pointy, her glasses perched perfectly and her hair coiffed with enough effort to look like it wasn’t trying at all. She didn’t betray a thought though.
“Off the top of my head, I’d need access to everything. I’d need months of internal research and auditing, plus at least a handful of accountants and assistants. I don’t think you understand what you’re asking.”
“I do.”
“You can’t.”
“In this folder,” Lexa grinned, and held it in front of her friend. “Is one of our middling branches based in London. I want to give it to you.”
“A company?”
“Kind of. I want you to hire your team. I want you to help me implement your changes. I want to create a better world. I had to think of something that no one else could give you, to entice you. Is it working?”
“Consider me enticed,” Maggie nodded, slowly accepting the folder and flipping it open, her mouth slightly agape.
The buzzer on Lexa’s desk sounded and she pushed off, walking back to her chair.
Ms. Woods, the car is here to take you to the airport.
“Thanks, Anya. Give me a few more minutes.”
“Going somewhere?”
“Three year anniversary weekend,” Lexa smiled. “I had a bit of a rough year last year, but it’s all coming back around.”
“You are incredibly good at multitasking. You’re pitching me while planning an epic event and doing how many other things.”
“Take the week to think about it. Everything you need is in that folder.”
“I’m going to need more than a fifteen minute meeting with yout see if this is even for real.”
“It’s real,” Lexa promised. “We can figure everything else out together, when you accept.”
“If.”
“I’ve been told I’m very persuasive. Take the week. I’ll be back next Tuesday and we can talk more then, if you’d like.”
“I thought maybe a consultation, but this is…” Maggie shook her head and stared at the folder before shutting it quickly. “Hell of a friend.”
“Come on, I’ll walk with you out,” Lexa offered as she grabbed her bag.
XXXXXXXXXX
The ranch was still slightly visible in the sunset, the timing only slightly off with their arrival for the romantic weekend escape. Tall pines and cedars eclipsed it while the mountains stood tall and purple in the distance against a firestorm of clouds in the fading summer light. The cabin was one of her favorite places on the planet, and she couldn’t think of anywhere more secluded and perfect to hide away from the world with her beautiful girlfriend to celebrate three absolutely life-changing years.
“I would have been happy with just a hotel room downtown,” Clarke chided as she entered the giant house. “This is too much.”
“I figured it was a good excuse to use this place. It’s been years since I’ve been out,” Lexa explained as she dropped their bags in the foyer.
She made sure everything was stocked and prepared and the staff wouldn’t be around. The caretakers didn’t mind a week off, and she was just excited to be away from the city and back somewhere quiet.
“Is this the ranch your mom liked?”
“Yeah, she’d make us spend a lot of spare time out here.”
“I can see why. It’s beautiful.”
“She designed it. Found an old hunting lodge and decided to convert it to a modern home. It was her labor of love.”
“Thank ou,” Clarke smiled and hugged her girlfriend before kissing her cheek. “Show me around.”
Lexa wasn’t particularly good at feeling so good, but she’d been excited and planned everything for the past month. So she took Clarke by the hand and showed her the grand room, the high ceiling and giant windows that looked out at the trees and the mountains as far as the eye could see. The fireplace was already roaring and inviting, but she took her toward the pool and hot tub area that went from outside to inside. She excitedly told her stories about being a kid, and all the stuff her and Aden would do.
By the time they made it to the bedroom she wanted, Clarke flopped onto the bed and gave up trying to figure out where she was in the maze of a house.
“So we get this whole place to ourselves for the next few days?” Clarke asked as Lexa gracefully slid beside her in the giant bed.
“Mhm, so go ahead and just take your clothes off now. I actually should have told you that at the door.”
“But I brought very cute lacy things you like me to wear.”
“Oh, wait, yeah,” Lexa nodded eagerly. “That’s all you can wear.”
“You’re ridiculous.”
“I’m yours.”
“And sappy.”
“Incredibly.”
But it was perfect, and Lexa didn’t care that her girlfriend was mocking her. She leaned forward and kissed her. She pressed Clarke into the bed and went about the task of celebrating.
XXXXXXXXXX
“I need you to carb up because I have a few more things planned for you,” Lexa explained as she reached forward and took another slice of pizza.
“Shut up.”
“I mean it. Dad keeps the W stored in the garage and I have waited three years to--”
“You can’t be serious,” Clarke laughed and shook her head, pressing her palm over her chest with how amusing she found it.
They were tangled in the sheets. They were tired and sated and happy and now nearly full from the dinner of pizza and beer.
“That’s the real reason I decided to come here,” Lexa grinned. “The romantic, candlelight bath and fireplaces, and privacy were all a ruse. You’ve been ruse-d.”
“I can’t believe I’ve kept you around for three years.”
“Me neither.”
“I should get a medal.”
“I agree completely,” Lexa decided as she hopped up from the bed. “Wait right there.”
Nearly tripping over herself, the CFO took the corner out of the room so quickly, Clarke was certain she hit the wall. The sound of padding bare feet could be heard in the bed, and for the life of her, Clarke wasn’t sure why it made her fall a little more in love, if that were even possible.
In a flash, Lexa returned, hopping into the bed, quick to hide whatever was in her hands.
“This was supposed to be a year of no gifts,” Clarke chided.
“I’m terrible at following directions. I don’t know if you knew that or not yet, but it’s a harsh truth you should start to understand.”
“You should listen to me.”
“I should,” she nodded and held out a velvet box. “I’ll start tomorrow.”
Clarke eyed her girlfriend warily and frowned at the blatant lie. But Lexa shrugged and smiled, nudging her to open the box.
“Oh, Lex, this is…”
The keychain was a tiny logo of Lexa’s company. It was plain and simple and cost exactly $2.95, and now it was dangling from Clarke’s finger as she furrowed and smiled at it despite all else because it was certainly not what she was expecting.
“It’s too much. You shouldn’t have.”
“You deserve the best,” Lexa explained, scooting closer. “Last time we did this, I wasn’t read. You weren’t ready. It wasn’t right. But now...I think it’s right. I think I want to be with you all of the time. I want to come home from business trips and see you. I want to cook dinner together. I want to sleep with you every night. I want to live together.”
Her hair was a mess, and when she was nervous, she talked with her hands. Clarke watched the entire thing without moving a muscle, because she might scare Lexa if she did. Instead, she looked at the key chain in her palm and listened.
“You’ve been making a lot of moves lately, Woods.”
“Well, the girl I love keeps pushing me to do better.”
“What if you get sick of me?”
“I won’t.”
“What if I get sick of you?”
“We’ll get a big place, so you can ignore me when I bug you,” Lexa promised.
“You’re ready for this?” Clarke asked, giving her a hard look.
“Very. Are you?”
“Very.”
Before she could say anything else, Lexa launched herself at her, and Clarke was tackled and kissed happily.

La La(chimolala) Land Chapter Eleven: May Finally Come True
jimin x reader genre: fluff word count: 1.5k warnings: none
[Inspired by La La Land]
Read on Wattpad
Read on Ao3
A few weeks later, you find yourself at the Porto’s Cuban Café in Burbank, half sipping a guava smoothie and picking at your Cuban pork—but mostly dialing Jimin’s number in a rush of excitement.
After a few rings, he answers: “Hi Jagi, what’s up?”
“JIMIN YOU’LL NEVER GUESS WH—”
“Is that Y/N?” You hear Jungkook ask. For some reason, you must be on speaker. “Would you ask her if she’s down for some Mario Kart this weekend? I’ve been practicing Rainbow Road and I swear this time I won’t let her beat me.”
“Shhhh, Jungkook-sshi, be quiet,” Jimin pleads.
“Oh, tell her I have some tips for that guitar player character of hers!” You hear Yoongi shout from a distance.
“And that I’m more than willing to choreograph anything!” Hobi chimes in.
“Does she like Jazz?” Tae asks.
“WOULD ALL OF YOU SHUT UP?” Jimin screams over his hyungs. “She’s my girlfriend. Let her talk to me, please.”
“Dang, Jimi,” you say.
“Sorry if that came off a little . . . possessive.” You can practically hear the expression on his face. Apologetic. Unsure. A little pouty.
And endlessly adorable.
“It’s ok,” you laugh into the phone. “Have they been driving you nuts?”
He sighs tiredly. “You have no idea.”
“Hey!” You hear Jin protest. “It’s you who made us drive all the way up here and organize this par—”
“SHUT UP, JIN!” You then hear what is most likely a minor physical altercation between the two. “Y/N has important news to tell me.”
“I’d tell you to hang up and go spend time with them,” you start, “but I do have important news, actually.”
“Well?” He raises his voice in anticipation. Cute.
“I SOLD RED WRITER TO AN INDEPENDENT FILM STUDIO!” You practically yell into the phone for all of the café to hear.
Cheers of celebration erupt on the other line.
“AHHHH! THAT’S MY JAGIYA!” Jimin is jumping up and down—you can tell. “I knew you could do it. I knew you were a genius. See, guys? I knew her meeting would be a success, and that she’d get the deal, and that all this party planning would be for nothing—”
He stops himself.
“Whoops.”
“What party, Jimi?” You ask.
“Did she already eat?” You hear Jin move closer. “It sounds like she’s at a restaurant. DID YOU ALREADY EAT, Y/N? Cause Jimin’s been forcing me to barbecue for the past two hours,” you hear him click together a pair of tongs, “in this ridiculous ‘Congratulations Y/N’ apron, and my God, if you already ate, I will be livid.”
A giant laugh almost escapes you, but you maintain your cool. “I’m at Porto’s, Jin, but I’ve barely touched anything.” You fight to keep your voice level—not too obviously excited and overjoyed. “What party, Jimi?” You ask him again.
“WHAT NOTHING NO PARTY HERE. WHY WOULD YOU THINK THAT JAGIYA HAHA YOU’RE SO CUTE SO WHAT ARE YOU UP TO—”
“Rambling ain’t gonna get you out of it this time,” Namjoon says in the background.
You hear your boyfriend sigh. “I just wanted it to be a surprise,” he groans. “Oh well. Just get in the dang limo when it pulls up.”
_________________________
Half an hour later, you’re standing outside of a modern-style house in the hills—the venue Jimin must have rented for this “surprise” party. It’s made of glass and steel, and it's illuminated by the blue and purple lanterns that have been placed on the lawn. You can see more glowing inside. The limo driver had given you a dress to change into—it was an expensive one, obviously Jimin’s taste—and with it on, you fit in perfectly with the color scheme. You’re just admiring how the light from the lanterns dances across the sparkly, midnight blue fabric when you hear the front door swing open.
Unsurprisingly, his outfit perfectly complements yours. His tie seems to be made of the same material as your dress, and the numerous silvery rings on his little fingers match your shine. His hair has been dyed a light shade of lavender, and, as his eyes grow big at the sight of you, you notice he’s wearing a little more eye makeup than usual.
He stands there for a few moments, then wordlessly runs to you, sweeping you off your feet and spinning you around in his arms.
“I . . . Jagi . . . there are no words in any language to describe how proud of you I am,” he says, settling you into a firm hug.
“Believe me, I understand that,” you helplessly grin. “I’ve had the hardest time trying to describe how I feel about everything. When I called my parents, I could barely get the words out!”
“How did they take the news?”
“Well . . . let’s just say that they’re finally proud of me.”
“As they should be. As they always should’ve been. YOU’RE A PROFESSIONAL SCREENWRITER! MY JAGI’S A PROFESSIONAL SCREENWRITER!” He yells, his voice booming through the hills. He picks you up and spins you around again, and you both erupt into laughter—laughter of glee and amazement and anticipation and joy.
“Now,” he smirks and starts loosening his tie.
“What?” You panic at the thought of something . . . risqué happening. “Now? Here?”
He follows your eyes to where his hands have started undoing the knot. “What? No!” He steps a few feet back and holds out his hands. “No, nothing like that. I was just going to use it as a blindfold.”
“A WHAT NOW?”
“Oh, Lord, no! Again, not like that.” he repairs, “Nothing Fifty Shades of Grey-ish. I was just going to tie it around your eyes and walk you through the door to preserve at least a little bit of the surprise party I had planned.”
“Oh,” you relax. “Ok. I’m sorry I freaked out.”
He laughs. “No, it’s okay. Really.” He ties the fabric around your eyes and starts guiding you up the path. “The guys are going to get a kick out of this later.”
“Don’t you dare tell them!”
You hear the door creak open, and just as the jazzy tracks from the La La Land soundtrack reach your ears, a crowd shouts: “CONGRATULATIONS Y/N!”
Jimin lifts the blindfold, and you see his six bandmates and your three roommates holding champagne flutes, party poppers, and balloons. J-Hope lets a confetti cannon loose and runs through the debris. Jessenia and Jungkook run to hug you. Diana and Tae smile, standing suspiciously close to one another.
In these past few beginning months of your relationship, Jimin has consistently surprised you with his versatile skillset. You knew he was a dancer and a singer, but over time you grew to know him as more: a doodler, a reader, a connoisseur of ice cream, a shopper, a cuddler, a fast driver, and a bit of a homebody. Never did you expect to add “party planner” to that list—but tonight, you do.
The entire house is lit vibrantly in blue and purple. Twinkling Christmas lights are suspended from the ceiling, and candlelight flashes from within the old wine bottles that rest on every surface. There’s an array of some of your favorite foods—pizza, sushi, watermelon, and more—and you can smell Jin’s promised barbecue wafting in from the backyard. Yoongi’s stationed at a sort of DJ booth, looking a little bored (but happy for you).
It’s funny, you think. Just an hour ago, I got the news I’d been waiting for—fighting for—for six years. But it would’ve meant virtually nothing if I didn’t have these people to celebrate it with.
The party goes off without a hitch. Jimin reluctantly lets go of your hand so that you can go talk to everyone, grab plates full of food, and gab on all the details of your success. You sit with Tae and Diana and tell them all about the meeting. You overhear Jimin gushing to Namjoon about how much of a prodigy you are, how much of a success your movie’s going to be. You watch as Rachel leans up against the wall near Yoongi’s DJ setup, blinking shyly at him—and you watch as he does the same. You bite into the ribs Jin has painstakingly prepared and assure him that their smoky flavor is perfect. You witness Jungkook practically chasing Jessenia around the entire night.
And you find yourself very, very grateful that you met Jimin.
Your heart, and your stomach, are full.

AHHHH! I’m so sorry this is so late! Here is one of your (belated) birthday fics! Happy birthday my dear @geekandbooknerd! This is my first time writing for Finan, but I hope you enjoy it….it’s a lil’ long...and a lil’ spicy for ya to make up for the lateness and cause its your birthday ;P
Based on the prompt: “If you wanted me to rip my clothes off, you should have just asked.” From the City of Bones by Cassandra Claire.
First Time - Finan x FReader (characters are eighteen years old and in their senior year of highschool)
Six months. That’s how long they’d been together. She couldn’t believe it! When Finan had first approached her she thought it was a joke. Haha get the geeky girl by publicly asking her out knowing full well that she’s into you just to turn her down. But...there was no punch line. No rejection. Just a sincere twinkle in the rumored playboy’s eyes that was begging her to agree and give him a chance. And so she did. Everyday happier than the last, but something was missing. They had already dropped the big L-bomb a couple months ago, but apart from some intense making out in the back of his camaro, they hadn’t really been all that physical. She had been prepared to stand her ground and make him wait, but he never pushed. Never even attempted to make moves either. ‘Maybe he’s just not that into me...’ She thought. She couldn’t help but compare herself to his previous girlfriends and how he was all over them all the time. And it stung, not knowing where she stood in that regard and how she could make it clear to him that she was ready..or atleast figure out if he even wanted her that way. It was always difficult to get a clear point across in person with his whole….everything. He was so sweet, always buying her flowers and snacks (she loved snacks, snack time was a certified meal in her opinion). And their dates were so considerate and thoughtful, the only thing lacking was sex if she was being honest. She’d never wanted anyone more. And he seemed not...interested. She’d always been teased about being too shy and not forward enough, not really going after what she wanted and all that. Maybe that’s what was wrong. He wanted someone more outgoing...she could do that. Or she could try anyway. His birthday was coming up, and if porn and romance novels had taught her anything, it’s that men loved birthday sex. So she devised a plan, and hoped she wasn’t too awkward to pull it off.
It had been three weeks and it was time. She was ready. She had gone shopping and purchased a silky nightgown. Her period isn’t expected for another week, she bought condoms (totally guessing at what the sizing meant but knowing that they stretch) and she had convinced Finan’s mom to vacate the house so she could surprise him with a romantic dinner. The plan was to make sure dinner was ready, eat together and make small talk and then she would escape up the stairs to “fetch his present” when really she would be lying on his bed waiting for him and calling out to say she needed help. It was perfect.
Dinner went off without a hitch, they talked about school and how his day had gone so far. ‘Now for part two.’ She looked at Finan and told him that she had hidden his present upstairs and she wanted to surprise him. So she excused herself and ran up the stairs. Barely able to contain her excitement. She changed in his room, lit the candles and laid on his bed, with one leg over the other and one arm holding her head up while the other rested across her stomach. “Finan! I need your help!” She called out, making sure to sound like she was struggling. “Are ya alright lass?” He sounded concerned, she felt bad for making him worry but she hoped what he was about to witness would make up for it. She heard him bounding up the stairs and she closed her eyes, unable to actually face him when the time came. “What did ya need my help - wh...what are ya doing?” He sounded confused...this wasn’t good and definitely not what she had imagined. She started to stammer as she opened her eyes and realized that he wasn’t looking at her. She couldn’t tell what stung more. “I just...I thought it would be a nice birthday present for you…” He turned to look at her then, his eyes wide and guarded. “I dinna want to upset ya, but what exactly possessed you to come up with such a scheme?” She could feel her eyes stinging like she was about to cry. She knew it, she knew that he didn’t want her that way. He was probably just waiting for the right time to end and go about his merry way while she faded into the background. “I’m sorry, it was stupid. Just forget it and I’ll go home and it’s fine.” She wasn’t sobbing yet thank god, she started to get up off the bed and gather her things. She felt hands on her waist and he turned her around and she went to push him away not wanting to hear his farewell speech. But her bracelet got caught on the buttons of his dress shirt and ripped it open. She felt her eyes go wide and she panicked. Suddenly feeling like an even bigger fool than before she tried to wiggle her way out his strong grip but he wasn’t letting up. He pulled her in tight to his body and lifted her chin to meet his gaze. “Oi! If ya wanted me to rip my clothes off, you should have asked. And secondly where is all of this coming from? You gotta help me out here lass.” How he managed to both be cheeky and concerned is beyond her. She stuffed her face into his neck and mumbled out the whole story, about how she remembered him being with others to how she felt he didn’t want her that way. By the time she had finished they were snuggling on the floor of his room with the quiet slowly closing in on them. “Listen my darlin’, I’ve waited because I didn’t want to pressure you and because you’re worth waiting for. Your first time should be special and you should be sure. Not rushed. I appreciate the thought that went into this, but it’s not necessary. You don’t have to push yourself to try and be like everybody else. That’s what I love so much about you. How you stay so true to yourself. I love you for you, not for what I think you can give me.” She paused then, really trying to let his words soak into her bones. All this time she thought that she just wasn’t enough or that his love didn’t run that deep. Never really understanding what he saw in her. The science nerd with social anxiety and poor communication skills. But here he was, still being his amazing self and praising her for….existing, essentially. And her wants didn’t change, which was surprising. She knew that she wanted him but she thought it was also a backwards way of her needing to have him wanting her. The fact that there was no weight to be lifted off of her shoulders, no immediate relief that she didn’t have to go through with it just reaffirmed that this was really was for her. She wanted him to be her first because of who he is and how he loves her. And how much she loves him. “Finan...please don’t wait anymore. I don’t want to wait anymore. I love you and you love me and yes I wanted to surprise you for your birthday...but more than that I just wanted to feel wanted by you. That hasn’t changed. Please, I want you. And I want this to be with you.” She felt so silly basically begging her boyfriend to have sex with her on HIS birthday. But it felt important to you, and it felt important to do tonight, you just hoped he understood that. “Why is this so important to you? I’m a patient man, I can wait.” She couldn’t believe how dense he was being. “Because I want you and I love you. Is it so wrong to want you to want me back? To physically feel how much you love me and experience a new way of loving you? To be closer to you than anyone else and just...be together?” His arms tightened around her waist. He looked like he was struggling with something in his mind, but she stayed quiet and just waited. Knowing he’d speak when he was ready. Grumbling under his breath, he whispered out “...you could drive a saint to sin, do ya know that?” almost like it wasn’t meant for her to hear.
Finan didn’t say anything more, just helped her off the floor and kissed her long and hard. Like he was committing it to memory. Taking her by the hand and leading her to the bed he gently pushed her down to a seated position, sliding her white negligee off her shoulders kissing the newly exposed skin as it appeared to him. Working his way down her body until he reached the line of her silk panties, he laid his hand on her belly and pushed her down, giving him enough access to remove said obstacle with his teeth so that he could get to what he really wanted. Seeing her fully laid out before him in all her glory he could barely contain himself. The things he would do to this woman, he relished the thought of the long hours it would take to completely fulfill his desires and unravel her. He couldn’t wait to see the look on her face as she was driven to new pleasure filled heights. He began by kissing and nipping up her legs, lightly tracing his fingers over every invisible mark left behind, until he reached his target. He was gently kissing her folds, dipping his tongue in ever so slightly until her first breathy exhale reached his ears. He then greedily dove in lapping at her slick heat and smearing her juices all over his face, he couldn’t get close enough, she tasted so sweet and smelled so intoxicating. They had only just begun and he was already being driven mad by his need for more of her. His hands began roaming her body, aching to touch and tease her out of her shell and into a wanton mess. He found purchase on her breasts, pawing at them and rolling her nipples between his fingers. Her breathing became heavier and he delved his tongue deeper inside her, silently begging her to give him more as he applied pressure. She was so gloriously wet, he never wanted to stop, he wanted to hear her moan and cry out his name. To fill her with a passion and satisfaction she had never known. He could feel her body starting to tremble, unused to this particular brand of torture. He slowed his pace ever so slightly and changed tactics. Pulling her body closer to him, he withdrew a hand from her breast and started to trace her outer lining before thrusting into her, first with one and quickly progressing to two fingers as she became louder. Instead of merely lapping at her folds he decided the sweetest ascent would be to suck at the top of her apex, her most vulnerable area becoming exposed to him. At the first tug she cried out and a hand shot to his hair, grabbing a handful and holding him as close as possible. He quickened his suckling, becoming too impatient to wait for her to slowly release. Her juices were flowing more heavily now, dripping down his face and onto the sheets below, her breathing more rapid and shallow than it was before. He thrust three fingers inside her, hard and fast, while dancing between trying to suck her dry and creating more fluid by lapping at her. It was during one of these exchanges that her legs began to shake, her cries more desperate, she was almost there. Soon he would taste her sweet climax, swaying her down until he brought another. He continued to sweep his tongue over her, speeding up as much as possible, he felt her inner walls clamping down around his fingers and her legs tense around his head. She shouted her orgasm, thrashing her head about while he continued his ministrations, his pace lessened to a caress. Once she had stopped shaking, he swiped a hand over his damp face, and crawled up her body leaving more kisses and bites in his wake until he was lying beside her. Tangling his hands in her hair he kissed her full on the mouth, diving his tongue in to meet hers, making her taste her own fluids from his mouth. The moan he received was encouragement enough to keep going. He drifted to her ear, pulling the lobe between his teeth and murmured “That wasn’t quite a scream, but I’ll get one out of you before we’re through.” And in one swift movement, pulled her on top of him and finally thrust into her with his aching member, she whimpered at the sudden intrusion and a few tears slipped free. He was much bigger than his fingers and the stretch burned. It felt like something had snapped inside her. “Now, the fun really begins.” As he let her adjust, he stroked her hair and wiped her tears, reassuring her that she was so good and took it so well. Finan was a firm believer in ripping the bandaid off and he didn’t want to prolong her pain. He tried to distract her by peppering her neck with kisses and gently fondling her breasts. Hoping his ministrations would make up for the lack of preparation and that the chosen position would provide her with the greatest pleasure and control. As her discomfort started to wane he felt her making small movements with her hips, testing the waters so to speak. He decided to try and help guide her by putting his hands on her hips, gently circling them around his cock. She started to get the hang of the movements on her own, raising herself up and down creating friction between them and causing a delicious feeling of wet tight heat around him. He knew they didn’t have all night but by God did he wish they did. The room was filled with their heavy pants and the sound of skin slapping on skin. Finan watched her ride him, her skin glistening with sweat and her thighs quivering with exertion. She was so beautiful and he was so lucky. He lifted her off of him and raised his eyebrows and the whimper she released at being dislodged. “Relax love, just switching angles.” As he flipped her back onto her back he inserted himself once more. Able to set the pace, he started thrusting harder into her. Wanting to make sure she could feel his absence the next day. He sucked love bites on to her collar bone and whispered sweet nothings in her ear about how much he loved her and how he wanted to see her fall apart on his cock. Her breathing was getting more breathy and her moans louder. He himself wasn’t fairing much better. Feeling a heat pool in his lower abdomen. Knowing he was getting close he wrapped her arms around his back “Hold on tight lass, and don’t worry if ya leave marks.” He kissed her hard then as he started pistoning his hips deep inside her. Fast strokes bringing them both closer to the edge. His moans matching her own as he chased both of their climaxes. He angled his hips differently so as to cause a little bit of friction on her sensitive bud as he pumped in and out of her. She herself didn’t know how much longer she could last, all she knew was that she felt so good and that she never wanted this to end (cliche teenager she’s aware). But it was honestly perfect. Being able to rake her hands through Finan’s hair and down his back. Kissing him for all she’s worth and feeling him all around her. It felt like both hours and mere seconds had passed when she screamed her release into his neck crying out his name. Clutching him tightly while he thrust a few more times, groaning his own release with her name like a prayer on his lips. They collapsed together in a heaping sweaty mess on the bed, still intertwined exchanging lazy kisses while they came down from their high.
Never in a million years would she have pictured this moment. But here it was. Perfect, with the perfect guy and she had never felt more….just more in her life. She could feel everything he felt about her through his movements, how much he wanted her and how hard he’d held back all these months...how much he loved and cherished her. She only hoped now that he knew it was entirely mutual. That she was so hopelessly gone on him, it might even be funny. “Finan...that was amazing.” He looked at her then, with droopy eyes and a goofy grin. “Aye lass, it was. I love you.” Her heart swelled as she repeated the sentiment back to him. “Happy birthday Finan, I love you too.”

Gallifrey Relisten: Lies
In the chaos of.....all of November....totally forgot I meant to relisten to this episode sooner! Which is odd because Series 2 is definitely one of the high points of Gallifrey for me (apparently listening to everything slowly collapse into the civil war is super engaging and interesting? idk Series 2 just does a lot of solid character work and storytelling and good narrative progression to the “ahhh everything is very bad” finale...and I’m not sure how to feel about this, given *gestures at the world these days*). But anyways, now for some thoughts on the series opener:
Fun fact: From the TV show alone, Romana I was my favorite. (This had something to do with her having more character growth in season 16 than season 17, since her early days on the TARDIS involve the “wait my academic success does not necessarily translate to the real world” realization and learning about worlds and people different from her own and growing from High-Achieving Student to Adventurer in her own right. Also I loved the grudgingly-working-together to actual-friends arc with her and the Doctor. I was a bit less interested in her character when she was just going around being a capable adventurer, although I did become invested in Romana II in her last episodes, as she quietly grapples with the issue of what she wants to do next in life and eventually chooses to go off on her own. Also to be fair, I appreciate the fun times of Season 17 a lot more now because Romana being happy and having a good time traveling around the universe? What a concept.)
All this to say: me on my first listen of Gallifrey was very excited about Romana I being in this episode. And even though it’s not quite as much of a !!!!! thing for me these days (the Gallifrey audios have long since solidified Romana II as my favorite), I do love the (sort of) multi-Romana interaction that happens in this one.
Brax essentially going “yeah the education system is supposed to be shitty and take an emotional toll on you” sir.
“I am not xenophobic” — Oh yeah, this scene is Narvin at his most unlikeable. “I’m not being bigoted, I’m just trying to protect Gallifrey, the fact that I assume that people who aren’t from here inherently can’t be trusted, and also go on about how they’re too loud and disruptive and don’t belong is definitely not a bigoted worldview nope.” Yikes. Very glad he’s going to see the error of his ways.
The Narvin and Darkel rant session does actually do a good job at explaining what’s been happening and establishing the primary conflict of the series while not feeling like it exists solely to be an info dump to catch up the listener. Like, it’s definitely a setup scene, but it is an interesting setup scene.
“But she is my President, and it’s my job to ensure that she gets what she wants and needs, efficiently and without question. Well, too many questions anyway.” Okay this moment and Darkel and Wynter’s conversation later about Narvin’s weakness (“Loyalty. An unswerving loyalty to his office and his precious CIA. And above all, loyalty to his president.” “He despises President Romana!” “Oh yes, of course. But it’s the position, not the person, he places that trust in.”) are really setting up some key Narvin Character Theses that we’re going to see play out this series (and also that the narrative is going to push in really interesting ways later on..... “position not the person”.....just you wait....)
Darkel and Narvin being indignant that Romana changed the law is just....hilarious in a kind of horrifying way? Oh no, the President worked with the legislative body to actually get a law passed. The horror.
“She has a temper. And a very long memory.” This is definitely about the CIA trying to overthrow her in Neverland but uhhh also it’s about Etra Prime and the Powers That Be on Gallifrey never making a serious effort to save her (at least from her perspective).
Yeah Darkel as antagonist is a bit abrupt (not that I particularly mind, she’s a good enough “love to hate” character that her not being set up as an antagonist from Series 1 doesn’t really bother me). But yeah, not sure what was going on behind the scenes, but it doesn’t seem like in Series 1 the plan was for her to be the primary Series 2-3 antagonist.
Darkel to Narvin: “You will let me know when you’ve decided.” Ooh yeah, this moment is quite a good setup of Narvin’s arc throughout this series — he has to decide where his loyalties truly lie.
Wynter is really interesting as far as character dynamics go, because he breaks the whole “Romana and Leela are the youngest people in the room” vibe — and it is just really interesting to see Romana interacting with this quite young Time Lord and specifically compare/contrasting it to how she interacts with young Time Lords in the later series when she’s older and a bit more emotionally mature and has more of the “mentor figure” vibes. (There isn’t really a conclusion to this thought, it’s more of a “huh, I’m thinking about this now” thing.)
“It’s been seven weeks, Andred. It’s hardly a lifetime.” Romana: please you have not been in a cell for that long, calm down.
“I thought you two were friends.” “A president of the High Council of Gallifrey cannot allow herself the luxury of friends.” Ahhhh, where it begins!! I’m extremely weak for the arc of Romana opening herself up to friendship and love, what of it.
Honestly, Andred’s politics have always been very confusing to me? And it probably doesn’t help that the show is all “he’s fully Andred now” but also “he lived as Torvald a long time and that’s still influencing him.” Like both of those things can be true, but it’s a bit unclear what Andred’s true priorities and motivations really are right then — and honestly, it just comes off like his primarily desire is to be useful to someone, and be granted some form of autonomy/power/respect in return (aka he doesn’t have any real clear principles that are motivating him). Also complaining about Romana opening Gallifrey up to aliens is such a bad look dude.
Romana to Andred: “I control your future. I control whether you have one.” Umm???? The foreshadowing?????
Andred, no. Andred, the free time pun was too much.
“I wish I had databanks. With a flick of a switch I could turn myself off, become unaware of all that has happened.” Leela ahhhhhhhhhh. (The desire to give Leela all the hugs and emotional support is very very high throughout these next couple seasons especially.....her mental health is in such a rough place ahhhh.)
Andred regenerated “nearly six months ago” and it’s been six and a half (or seven, depending on which character is speaking) weeks since A Blind Eye, which took place an unspecified amount of time after The Inquiry, which took place two weeks after Square One...(don’t mind me, just taking some notes on the timeline math...)
I believe a couple times in the Gallifrey audios, they reference the position of “Vice President,” which is very weird because that doesn’t seem to be a position that exists?? Chancellor is definitely seen as the #2 spot?? Idk what’s going on here.
“You are appreciated, highly regarded, and were I to lose you I would be...disappointed.” Romana, you started strong and then you got a bit emotionally repressed there.
“Torvald was a fool, but he was my fool.” .....I am not saying anything.....I will not be commenting on the Narvin and Andred scene......I just.......you know. There are some fics you cannot unread.
Romana does really trust Brax here, doesn’t she. And she really doesn’t trust easily post-Etra Prime, so this is a big deal — making it all the rougher when she (in the short term) finds out he meddled with her memories and (in the long term) has to deal with him doing things like temporarily betraying her for the greater good of protecting her while not explaining at all what’s really going on.
Okay, yes the whole pearl-clutching about Romana changing the laws is kinda silly and horrifying in a “how dysfunctional is your society if passing one (1) law is drastic change??” way, but also the flip side of this, aka “we thought these things were entrenched as norms in our society and would not change and then here comes along one president who’s trying to undo all of these things and threaten the whole system”.....y’all that hits differently now in the month November in the year 2020. In the Gallifrey audios the context is different — they are for sure overreacting to Romana’s very mild idea of “perhaps....we could change some things about society” but the way they talk about her political changes in the episode — feels a bit too close to home!
Romana’s voice right when she sees Leela....she missed her.....
Pandora being the “first female president” is a very weird and very unnecessary bit of misogyny? Ah yes, we must specify that this ancient president of Gallifrey who was wildly power-hungry and cruel and went too far and almost ruined everything Gallifrey had built was a woman?? Why was that bit of dialogue needed?? Tbh early Gallifrey does have a problem in general with characters played by women tending to be power-hungry....which is partly down to the fact that they have so so few women in the cast in general, it’s Romana, Leela, and Villains, mostly. (The lack of women in the supporting cast in early Gallifrey is going to be an ongoing complaint.)
“You should not be afraid of your feelings, K9.” / “Yes, thank you, if we can move on from the emotional support group session.” Pffffff
I do choose to ignore the implication that Romana returned to Gallifrey and became President because of the subconscious influence of Pandora/the Imperiatrix Imprimatur nudging her towards power. Tbh it’s simply not interesting to me to have such a pivotal character choice reduced to genetic/subconscious manipulation. Yes, Romana ended her TV run insisting she didn’t want to go back to Gallifrey (and even staying in another universe to avoid it), and yes, it creates this initial emotional dissonance suddenly jumping to stories where she’s President of Gallifrey. But I already did the headcanon work before I jumped into Big Finish to make it work for me, I didn’t need this weirdness.
Elaborating on this a bit more: There is something interesting to me about a person who left home and slowly ended up rejecting the narrow worldview she grew up with, cutting herself free from the place she was born — and then eventually choosing to return because she genuinely wanted to make that messed-up world better and believed she could. And it also creates a really interesting contrast with the Doctor: two Time Lords who came to realize that Gallifrey was pretty terrible actually, and one of them kept running away from it and rejecting Time Lord society, and the other came back and said maybe I can change things. Because both are understandable and complicated reactions to have to a messed-up home world, and there are different ways of trying to do good. And regardless of how her choices turned out, I always liked the idea that it was Romana’s own choice that brought her to Gallifrey again, and I don’t think Pandora needed to be shoehorned in to explain her actions.
Okay, I want to hear the follow up where Leela insists Romana tell the whole Key to Time story after hearing all of these random out of context bits and pieces.
Why does Brax admit to breaking the Laws of Time? The fact that he’s in contact with his past/future selves isn’t actually relevant to what he needs to tell Narvin? He literally could have just said that he hypnotized Romana, without mentioning that it was his future self who did it? (Also, it’s implied in this one that he pushes for Romana to use the mind wipe on Narvin because he wants the memory of that reveal erased, but somehow that’s the one thing that Narvin keeps because he uses that information against Brax later? Aka: how did Narvin remember that Brax told him this?)
And final thought: general internal monologue during this episode is just: Pandora arc Pandora arc Pandora arc here we go!! Because the Lies through Warfare run is really one of the more interesting bits of Gallifrey for me (Imperiatrix specifically ranks very high on my favorite episodes list), and I’m excited to be re-listening to/thinking about/hearing other people talk about these episodes!
Next Episode Reaction: Spirit

the secret history live blogged
forever mad that i got spoilered so much on this book.
anyway hello! and welcome to this … shit fest of the secret history by donna tartt aka the biggest letdown of my life
enjoy! i didn’t
ok whaatttt the fuck. he was walked over?? he was packed and squished under ice?? WHAT DID THIS BUNNY GUY DO TO MAKE Y’ALL SO MAD????? istg what the fuck. cruel cruel fate
four against one, i knew y’all were assholes. you sounded like assholes before i even knew what your names were.
i have to say, i’m not a very big fan on the beginning: hello, my name is richard, i am 28, this is my story. makes it sound like he’s in an AA meeting, but i’ll let this one slide.
years at home dispensable like a plastic cup? fictional history and upbringing tales? [*clears throat in relatable*]
my father was mean, my house ugly, my mum didn’t give me attention, must kill someone to cope and serve the aesthetic™ of rejected, unloved child, brooding and mad at the world. got it.
if richard, plain and poor is the one who kills the rich asshole bc he’s a rich asshole, i might relate to him more than i thought.
[*slams book shut*] okay. okay. am i gonna have to google every other phrase in this godforsaken history book or is donna gonna go easy on my ass?
sounds like a university i would love to go to. oh, pardon me, CoLlEgE.
wait, they’d pay him back for the plane if he GOT IN??? and if he didn’t well then what, soz dude, tough luck , such is life, see ya never? makes a lot of sense. should pay him back regardless imo but hey, i had to pay £50 six times to audition at universities who, all six times, rejected me, so.
three days on a bus and arrival at six in the morning? i cannot fathom a worse scenario.
this prof conducts his selection on a personal level rather than on an academic one, said with a note of sarcasm? is he … you know … ?
ahhhh these saucy saucy tea spilling french people, gotta love em. ‘listen, i know i’ve only met you three minutes ago, but i’m bout to spill some serious tea which i must ask you to keep to yourself and never mention for i have some formidable enemies in the literature division, yes, my very own department, but we all actually love each other. you know, in a very shakespearian ‘i shall murder you at the end of the play but for now, let’s make sweet love under the stars as a witch friend of mine who will later murder you watches’ way. all very platonic. but don’t say a word of it.’
who do you think was with morrow when richard came to see him in the lyceum and what were they talking about? GODDAMN IT, this french bastard put me in a gossipy mood.
bunny — short for edmund…….
god, i love a redhead.
richard and me being whipped by francis and his long, flapping black coats, love to see it.
‘pseudo-intellects and teenage decadents abounded and black clouting was de rigueur’ can I enrol ~now~????
francis talks to cats and bunny yells from his window down at the incest twins to stop snogging in the garden. i can’t wait to see which one am I at the end of the book
henry and julian driving off together? do i smell something…. gay?
THEY WRITE WITH FOUNTAIN PENS????? [*flashbacks from my childhood intensify*].
i do not understand most of these references or sentences and if the whole book is like this, i will throw myself out the window in attempted suicide even though i live on the ground floor.
i have absolutely no idea what they’re on about.
hwhat
francis in black cashmere and cigarette smoke brushed past him and almost touched his arm. how bloody delicious is this??
‘give him some flowers and he’ll enrol you.’ ok, julian is definitely the gay prof everyone falls for.
at this stage, i would rater have voted we kill henry, not bunny, but we’ll see.
‘i was tired of being poor.’ [*buys a tie with pictures of men hunting deer on it*] ‘that’s better.’
‘i believe that it is better to know one book intimately than a hundred superficially.’ donna tartt gave me the book and the reason both.
constantly chuckling at the way richard is so completely mesmerised and intimidated by francis to the point that he’ll duck into a doorway to let him pass even though they’re going to the same lesson.
I don’t know how a ‘bostonian voice’ is supposed to sound like so francis will be slightly british in my mind for the rest of the book.
cubitum eamus? cubitum. eamus? CUBITUM?? EAMUS????? OH! GOD! HELP ME! THE SWEET SWEET HOMOEROTIC FORESHADOWING OF IT ALL!!! throwback to when, in a much too similar vein, boris, upon being asked by theo to say something in russian for him, he said ‘fuck you up the ass’. my heart is racing with yearn. i can’t fucking believe i just read this. it’s time to bust out the annotation tabs again.
oh my gooooddd whAt is henry’s problem????? he reminds me slightly of number one from the umbrella academy, but in a meaner, more show-offy, bastardish way that’s supposed to showcase his superior intelligence over all mortals like fuck you, go read harry potter and chill.
‘meke (s.p.) you Wear it’? i take it meke is actually make but what on earth is (s.p.)? google gave me 238 possible definitions for that acronym and, needless to say, i didn’t bother.
i love how donna’s main characters are funny essentially bc they’re bitches towards other people they deem inferior to them in their internal monologues.
if you were drunk and ‘slam-dancing’ at a party, i don’t have to be stuck up or elitist to judge you and hate on you. even less so if you throw your beer in my face.
‘love that jacket, silk, isn’t it?’ ‘yep, my grandfather’s. totally not from that annoying girl in my dorm whose mate your mates beat up at a party last term for shoving camilla and throwing a beer in her face and who probably only gave me the jacket because she wants to fuck me, nope.’
‘let me get that door for you.’ that’s it, that’s the tweet.
when bunny said they should round up the ‘officious fags and burn them at the stake’ i yelled the loudest what the fuck i’ve ever yelled at a book. i can see now why they killed him. and i bet that’s only the tip of the iceberg.
okay, his true colours are starting to show. it’s even more unnerving when i think about the fact that like half of this stuff is supposed to be true.
called it, they’re boning.
i can’t wait until francis locks lips with richard. i am simply tingling for it. i hope he and camilla have a threesome with richard at this country house. oh wait no, they’re all here. eh, maybe another time.
oh, we finally get some juicy inside gossip
if francis and richard don’t fuck in that gorgeous immense library, i will riot.
okay, what’s henry’s deal? he’s nice now? and he’s oddly … interested in/caring towards richard? like who the fuck says ‘i hope you slept well’ without at least a little affection towards them.
AHAHAHAAHA, NOW I GET ALL THOSE MOON LANDING QUESTIONS ON THE TSH RELATED UQIZZES I STUPIDLY TOOK. I CAN’T BELIEVE THIS IS REAL. imagine them lot in present day completely bewildered and confused at the fact that the whole world is in lockdown for some weird fucking reason. this is the funniest shit ever, swear to god.
dogs get heart attacks?
wow they’re being dicks. that shady shit they’re doing’s so fucking rude aajksdhfkfh and to think i had initially thought richard was the ‘leader’ of their group...
okay, they’re either all into bdsm or they’re some odd breed of late vampires who don’t have much of the traits/qualities of ‘classic’ vampires as they have possibly diminished over the centuries as the species was becoming extinct. maybe witches. hm. or occultists. I REALLY DON’T KNOW!!
richard be like ‘what should I tell you?’ well—and this is merely a suggestion—, how about you start with what they’re actually doing when they’re not hanging out with you?????
i can’t wait for bunny to figure/find out richard’s not actually rich and be a dick about it.
two months??? what kind of bonkers winter vacation between terms is that???
is being constantly cold part of the dark academia aestehtic? cos it certainly seems to be.
what the fuck are these (sp)s bunny keeps putting in his letters??
i hope somebody (henry, or maybe francis? as something that would bring them together?) is fake rich too.
ouuuuu here comes the dark, mental stuff.
richard dropped out of drama to study the classics. if we were villains is a group of people studying shakespeare. coincidence? i think not. it is with dread that i think at the possibility that i might like the other more because so far, i can’t say i’m heavily impressed with tsh.
now i’m all for weird, fancy names, but marchbanks is really an odd one. who the fuck looks at their newborn baby and goes ben? nah. tom? no. MARCHBANKS! perfect.
henry winter saves richard from a piping cold winter. ah, don’t bother, i’ll do it myself [*jumps out the window*]
henry dislikes electric lights? smokes cigarettes without filter? reads milton translated into latin ‘just to see if a language with no noun cases could possibly support the structural order he attempts to impose’? can this dude be any more pretentious?
BUNNY! IT’S BUNNY! HE’S FAKE RICH THE BASTARD! ALL THAT ‘oops, forgot my wallet’ BULLSHIT, I THOUGHT IT WAS A TEST FOR RICHARD OR JUST RICH PEOPLE LEECHING OFF OTHERS (why spend yours when you can spend theirs?) BUT NOOOO, HE’S BROOOOKE! AND AN ASSHOLE! WHAT AN ASSHOLE!!! serves him right, the asshole (that gay people being burnt at the stake comment really bothered me despite the fact that i laughed). and not only is he broke and leeching off of henry, he leeches in the most shameless, greedy, extravagant and ignorant way, ordering the most expensive thing on the menu fuck out of here.
ha! he got fat the bastard. found some sugar daddy to sustain you during your last month in italy or what?
this rabbit dude sure has some big balls for a broke ass bitch.
‘let me see your head wound.’ vs ‘your arm.’
‘that sort of tension which i, being rather more disinclined that way than not, am quick to pick up on. i had caught a strong breath of it from francis, a whiff of it at times from julian (…)’ sounds like we got another one boys, a straight dude with the best gaydar in the world. that being said, julian is the fakest bitch in the book so far.
this secrecy is killing the ever-loving shit out of me. argentina one way?? whY
lol if you’re gonna steal his book with the intention of having him come back to the apartment and see all that shit, at least don’t put it in such an obvious place where he couldn’t have possibly missed it. for such a smart guy, you sure are dumb, dude.
francis’ mother be like ‘give that bad boy a kiss from me’ and i’m like HE BETTER.
richard the worst liar. just say your mum called for fuck’s sake! you could get your boyfriend in trouble!
cheesecake cover: ‘please do not steal this, i am on financial aid.’ bunny: [*steals it*] the cheesecake: [*sucks*] me: serves you fucking right, pig.
THINKING ABOUT HIS HANDICAP. I’M YELLING. funniest thing donna tartt ever wrote.
i bet they’re all there sat at the table like nothing happened and weren’t supposed to leave anywhere at all.
called it! motherfuckers.
what the hell is going on. are they a gang of assassins or something?
richard: ‘you killed somebody, didn’t you?’ henry: [*laughs as if it was the most ridiculous idea in the world and how could you possibly suggest such a thing*] yep
bunny: gays are weirdly obsessed with food, don’t you think? also bunny: [*gets excluded from the bacchanal because he couldn’t stop eating*]
okay. i can see now why this book started the whole dark academia aesthetic
aight, that’s all good and great (far from it) but WHERE IS MY FRANCIS CONTENT????
going through the motions of hating and liking henry every other chapter.
everybody: [*burning clothes, cleaning the car, running this way and that to get rid of evidence*] francis: aight y’all imma take a power nap real quick cool? cool
there is hardly anything in the world i hate more than loose-of-tongues. bunny and that bitch ass hely from the little friend. god, i want to sock each and every single one of them in their stupid bloody loud mouths.
i want to know, i really want to know if there are any bunny apologists or … s…. s… [*grits teeth*] stans out there. don’t worry, nothing will happen to you, i just wanna talk.
if it’s henry and richard and not francis and richard,,,,, i will riot.
boy this henry guy smokes a lot…. more than me in my prime.
as if this dude reenacted the murder he wasn’t even present at in the lobby of a hotel just to torture henry. i can’t believe this character is still alive and has been for so long.
FINALLY! one francis moment that indicated there will be no more francis moments…. .
funny that, reading the secret history put something into perspective about the goldfinch for me.
i love how richard just casually throws it in there whenever he happens to mention camilla that he loves her and wants to kiss her and that she’s so beautiful and blah blah blah and then it’s never brought up again ever because he’s constantly going on and on about henry.
wait, don’t tell me it’s happening now, in the middle of the book! that would be most unexpected as there’s a whole entire book following.
henry is such a stone cold bitch, i wonder where they put his heart when they made him, in his ass?
don’t tell me henry went boxer dogs on JULIAN?!?!?! he wouldn’t. … would he?
i don’t know. i get it, obviously, the gravity of the situation, but going as far as killing him to silence him is a bit … extreme in my opinion.
thank you, charles, for being the only voice of reason in this madness.
okay, i understand it’s in richard’s best interest not to be involved, but they called him there to what, make him listen to all this and then send him on his merry way?
charles: well, if you wake up intending to murder someone at two o’clock, you hardly think of what you’re going to feed the copse for dinner. [*crickets*] francis: hey, how about asparagus?
henry: someone’s coming. quick! act normal! richard: [*turns to inspect the trunk of a tree*] [*footsteps approach*] richard: [*inspection of tree intensifies!!*]
you’re a bit late, bunny, just saying.
and now what the fuck is the rest of the book about? what do we do, let’s run, let’s stay, let’s go to the police, what do we do with him?
i love how richard describes himself as part of the process: we dwelt on it, we convinced ourselves, we devised plans when in reality, he was only there as an attaché, he wasn’t included much, almost at all in the actual planning process of it other than to give his insight on the poison route because henry thought it was his area of expertise so to speak when, really, it wasn’t and then was told about the other plan because they simply thought he should know. even then henry tells him ‘you can go now, if you like’ because there wasn’t anything they sort of needed him for anymore since he wasn’t going to be there, he was just a pair of ears. i like to think he was there in hopes to maybe dissuade them, try to stop them, tell them how mad it is, tell them there’s another way, but he didn’t do much of that either (not that I think he would’ve succeeded anyway, had he tried, henry’s one stubborn motherfucker). he didn’t come up with shit, he wasn’t supposed to even be there, i think, much less contribute in any way. had bunny not told him about the bacchanal, richard would have probably found out about it after it was already done, he was only included for the fucks of it and yet, he talks as if he was right there in the room with them, brainstorming ideas how to kill him. and i get how it only comes from a sense of obvious guilt because he knew about it, he was there and didn’t do anything to stop it, but he’s by far not one to have agreed to the whole thing or condoned it in any way from what he’s told us in book one. he himself says in the very same paragraph that he only watched. he’s very much a dark academia nick carraway type of character and i hate it. because i like him. he deserves better.
i’m pretty sure that the reason that serial killer autobiography you picked up in an airport was bereft of details is because no publishing house would allow such lurid specifications that might shock, disgust, enrage or give ideas to the reader in their book, not because the author is shy, richard, but ok, let’s move on. actually no, let’s not. you can’t expect the autobiography of a killer to only tell you about the murders, especially since in this particular instance, he was caught and went to prison. of course he’s going to tell you more about that than the killings, have you any idea what prison life is like? how much it eats away at your soul? how it crushes your spirit if you have one and how hard it is to get over? the time he spent in jail is going to haunt him forever and after such a long time in there, however long it was, you hardly think about your crime as anything but a huge mistake that was not worth the torment if you’re not a downright psychopath which, since he came out and wrote a book about it, doesn’t seem to be the case here but i guess you’ll find out all about it soon enough.
OH! a francis moment???? could this be it? please dear god may this be it.
it wasn’t, but there’s another one!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
‘it’s fun, i promise you.’ [*dies*]
if this is it, if that’s all, i am not forgiving this book.
‘i tried to pull him out but it was no good; his head lolled back uselessly’ YEAH. BECAUSE HE’S DEAD, RICHARD. [*scoffs*] ‘uselessly’
i wish i held any of my teachers and professors in at least half the high regard henry holds julian. i also wish they were half as competent and passionate about teaching as julian.
I DON’T BELIEVE ‘HE WAS JUST THERE’. IT’S BORIS AND THEO AT 6 AM IN THAT NEW YORK BAR ALL OVER AGAIN. HE’S ONLY SAYING THAT BECAUSE RICHARD WENT ALL ‘YOU’RE NOT HOT’ ON HIS ASS AND I REFUSE TO BELIEVE OTHERWISE. if they don’t kiss again—
i can’t help but admire the way they communicate sensitive information to each other in ancient greek, they sound like characters from jane austen novels while talking about drugs and saving face from tabloids and gossip, it’s rather amazing.
quite pointless to go through all that trouble to hide the cigarettes and deny having been smoking when the smell will be there no matter what and she’ll know for sure. i swear, all these seemingly smart ass people are actually idiots
my question is why would anyone, drunk or not, for any reason, leave the top down in the rain? why? what possible pleasure could one get from driving in the middle of the rain with rain actually pouring down on them?
isn’t linoleum a bit tacky for a house that looks like it’s been in architectural digest?
why is charles so on edge? why are they all always hiding??? camilla and her late night 3 am phone calls, her secret phone code with henry, charles mysteriously going out for cigarettes so brusquely without a word in the middle of the night and refusing to talk about it, what are they all always hiding?! nobody trusts one another with anything, it’s very annoying, to be honest. aren’t they supposed to be super best friends? you’d think that after a bacchanal and a double homicide, you wouldn’t keep secrets from one another, but i guess not.
ah, shame. was kind of hoping for some sneaky richard/francis basement action, but alas. what’s their ship name anyway, richis?
i just spoilered myself again, twice, by going through the tsh tag on tumblr and then looking for francis/richard fanfics on ao3 and finding out that francis marries? gets with? a girl who’s apparently called fucking priscilla. donna tartt really has a knack for weird fancy names, huh? i’m here for it tbh
richard you fucking snitch! you had one job!!!!!!
why the fuck are they still keeping him in the dark about shit? henry and charles quarrelled and charles is in jail and henry still won’t tell him what’s so bad about it and why he wants richard to handle all this shit instead of him and why bunny’s murder still matters and why why just why are they still using him as their pawn??
seriously, this exchange was about the worst they’ve had so far. he himself knows it: ‘there was a silence during which I felt acutely the hopelessness of ever trying to get to the bottom of anything with henry. he was like a propagandist, routinely withholding information, leaking it only when it served his purposes.’ THEN WALK AWAY. SAY NO. PUT YOUR FOOT DOWN. FUCKING—UGH!!!!!!!
they’re all so shamelessly using him… i can’t read. it’ll kill him, one way or another.
these ungrateful little shits i swear to god. richard bails him out, he’s all thankful and sweet when he wants him to do ‘this one little favour’ of taking him to his francis’ house so he can break in and when richard’s like i don’t have a car, he immediately turns sour and passive aggressive like you know what?! richard hasn’t slept all night and all morning waiting for your ass to go to court cos you were a drunken idiot and decided YET AGAIN that driving in that state is a great idea so he can bail you out and when you are finally out, you start being fussy and then it’s all ‘right. thanks a lot’??? richard doesn’t fucking need this shit! y’all are horrible friends. he’s not your bloody servant. how about you take that stick and privilege out of your asses and start treating him a bit more kindly, huh???
‘henry made me swear not to tell.’ WHAT. WHAT. BITCH, GET THE FUCK OUT.
this is by far the most toxic friendship i’ve ever heard of.
oh wow that kiss was hot. i thought it was just a speculation that they were incestuous with each other, but i-i guess not.
FINALLY it gets interesting. Mr Abernathy spilling some piping hot tea mmm
he literally just said i’d sleep with you if you got drunk enough to let me. oh dear god help me.
oh fuck it got sad. It’s patrick and brad all over again ugh always happens to the best of gays
finally richard my boy starts hating them, as he should. except francis, you’re a dick in that respect. he’s only joking for fuck’s sake, don’t get all butthurt, jesus. sensitive much?
uuuuuu tunts Tunts TUNTS! shit is hitting the fan. henry, henry, henry, our ‘golden boy’. nothing but a crook himself, the motherfucker. i’ve been waiting for this reveal since the beginning of the fucking book. if they gang up on him and kill him, i will never stop laughing.
it’s as if he’s begging to be excluded and hated, i swear. why is he being such a prick? does he love her? is that it? then there are a BILLION other ways to go about it, he doesn’t have to be such a shady bitch!! besides, wasn’t he in cahoots with julian?
‘i was depressed, i thought if i slept here it might make me feel better.’ that’s so precious tho….. funny, but precious. such child-like innocence in this grown ass intoxicated man, i melt.
clever, luring him out of the playground under the false pretext of a drink when he’s had plenty. think like a drunk
the only consistent, recurring and ever-present elements in donna tartt’s books are the hors d’oeuvres.
it’s so cute how charles needs him, i—
girls be like: watching a film, listening to a podcast, talking on the phone, having dinner, figure painting, filing nails, writing an essay and doing their makeup all at the same time
this so called love he feels for camilla is so unfounded and feeble and just … it seems so out of the fucking blue every single time he mentions it, i can’t read this shit. IT’S SO SEE-THROUGH!!
okay WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK DID I JUST READ. WHAT. THE ACTUAL. MOTHERFUCKING. FUCK. one second he’s ‘i love her so much’ the next he wants to strangle and rape her?????????????? i have zero goddamn words. i am fucking speechless. i don’t think i have ever been this confused at something since i watched the turning. i don’t think you realise quite how done i am with this fucking book at this point.
i think i do hate henry more than bunny and i’m afraid i’ll like if we were villains better.
richard: [*takes sleeping pills*] also richard: [*surprised he can’t keep up with the film he started watching after taking sleeping pills*]
‘look,’ said francis. ‘let’s just go, if we leave now we can be in montreal by dark. nobody will ever find us.’ vs ‘well, i’m not going,’ said boris serenely. ‘fuck that, i’m running away. do you want to come?’
this henry bitch is the most difficult piece of shit i’ve ever fucking encountered. ‘you mean, it’s something you need to tell me in private?’ oh FUCK OFF AND STEP OUTSIDE, FOR FUCK’S SAKE. IT’S ONE THING I ASK OF YOU, YOU TWAT.
huh, i thought he was doing this shit on purpose, leaving the page face down on the table so that julian could see it, i thought it was some sick twisted plan of his.
lmao called it. everybody saw through julian’s façade except richard and the others and i completely understand. in a fashion much like julian’s, i think he knew that, he saw it, but just chose to ignore it because the image he posed and richard himself constructed of him in his mind was much more favourable to what he really was. i mean, fuck, who the fuck says ‘i hope we are all ready to leave the phenomenal world and enter into the sublime’ with their whole chest and mean it?
if you think he’s not coming, why sit in silence staring out the window, ignoring everyone and wasting everybody’s time instead of telling them from the very start this piece of information you have on hand that could save everybody a lot of trouble, time and overthinking? why be all mysterious and enigmatic about it? just tell them from the start, you’re not in a film for fuck’s sake……..
charles, one of the four of them (henry, camilla, julian and himself) might be the one i despise the least, almost like had he not been so brutal towards camilla,,,, but i don’t know if i can trust her, that whole scene seemed … staged somehow. i don’t know. i don’t know
didn’t expect henry would turn on julian too though. first real thing he’s done all book.
agatha
christie
writes
good
mysteries.
richard does seem like the type of fellow who would grow up in a household where his dad would strike his mum for no fucking reason.
okay so did henry punch him for that comment or not? what was all that father beating mother bit for?
#boysweekendinthecountry! 🤪 #partytime! #ignoringourproblems! #woooo!!!
oh my fucking god chARLES!!!
yes, henry, great, brilliant, fucking splendid idea to antagonise the man pointing a gun at you.
MY PAUL SMITH SHIRT!!!!!!!!! AHAHAHASFSHDGFDK
i love how absolutely nobody noticed fucking richard BLEEDING RIGHT NEXT TO THEM
‘expected everyone to stop and look at me. no one did.’ and they never will. that’s your whole friendship summed up in two lines. you don’t matter to them, you never did, you’re absolutely unimportant. just a tool, a pawn, a nobody. sorry you had to get shot to realise that.
‘’he shot me.’ somehow, this remark did not elicit the dramatic response i expected. before i had the chance to elaborate—’ ELABORATE WHAT? ELABORATE WHAT?! THAT’S ALL YOU NEED TO SAY!! GOD, this hurts to read. this angers me beyond words, but it also fucking hurts so bad…
nothing, not even getting shot can make richard lose his wit
disGUSTING henry and camilla moment. I HATE THEM
oh shit. did not see that coming. well, glad that’s over.
ugh, time to read how francis got hetero married :\
[*chokes*] DUE TO THE VERY EXCELLENT EXCUSE OF HAVING A GUNSHOT WOUND IN THE STOMACH I DIDN’T TAKE MY FRENCH EXAM YAY!!! god, i fucking love Richard.
the thing is, right, i read that line, ‘i managed to get out of taking my french exams the next week’ about three or four times and somehow, the following line or even the words ‘gunshot wound’ never made it to my eyes! i don’t understand how! but i’m completely happy about that given the fact that i spoiler myself on every single book i read by reading ahead like an idiot..
how much do you want to bet that it was the inn keep who called the ambulance and not those fuckers? because of course henry, dead henry’s more important than slowly dying, almost dead but not quite richard.
despite everything, it sounds like he had a nice summer in brooklyn. good for him. god knows he deserved it, the poor guy.
yeah no, fuck henry’s post-mortem hero narrrative.
lol, at least he got a nice car out of it. this book shows me once again that things happen just the way they should happen.
OH MY FUCKING GOD NO. NO. NO. NO. NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! I CANNOT READ. I DO NOT SEE. I REFUSE TO COMPREHEND THIS PIECE OF INFORMATION.
i will not say a WORD on this, much less his letter. i am hurt, i am wounded, i am grieving, my head is full of thots and i cannot speak. i died on this bed.
ugh [*rolls eyes*] this fucking guy again with his sudden, out of my ass declarations of love towards camilla. JUST GIVE IT UP ALREADYYYYYYYY!!! TELL IT TO SOMEONE WHO CARES!!! (francis) i wouldn’t be surprised if she was married or engaged and just didn’t bother to mention it ‘because he never asked’ or some bullshit excuse like that.
I HATE HENRY I HATE HENRY I HATE HENRY I HATE HENRY [*deep breath*] I FUCKING HATE HENRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
he’s telling me about all these people and where they ended up after graduation but not only do i not give a single solitary fuck, i actually don’t know who the fuck he’s talking about?? like who the fuck is bram guernesnesnica? rooney wayne? what the fuck do i care what jack jud and frank did?
the only people i do remotely care about are the professors (the saucy french teacher and the boring, senile dude who wouldn’t shut up and who kept referring to richard as ‘jerry’ in his grad school recommendations letter ahahah that is the content i signed up for, not dumb and dumber’s bar or whatever) and the cat charles left at francis’ country house who lives in a ten fucking room apartment in boston.
love how ionic the whole marion storyline turned out to be. marred another corcoran who looked just like bunny and had a daughter who, despite having her and his mother’s name ended up being nicknamed also bunny. i’m sorry, i just—i have to laugh.
[*slams fists on the table*] THE AGENTS??? YOU’RE GONNA TELL ME ABOUT THE BLOODY FBI AGENTS???!!!!!! CAN THIS BOOK PLEASE JUST FUCKING END ALREADY??????!!!!!!!!
a dream. a dream. if it’s a dream of henry i will personally shoot you and make sure i aim a little higher than your abdomen this time.
[*shoots the book*]
oh, you died and suddenly you have a sense of humour?
‘that information is classified’ [*shoots a torpedo at the book*]
‘are you happy?’ / ‘not very.’ vs ‘are you happy here?’ / ‘not particularly.’
okay. so. final thoughts: fuck this book.
good night
