Headcanon that the Cod Council was responsible for the end of the world, and the CodFather (& Fwhip) were merely a means to an end.

Jimmy never really did anything wrong to the council, and there was no reason for him to really have the codhead taken away. But the council knew Jimmy would grow desperate and that he'd do anything to get it back. They wanted him to team up with fwhip.

There really wasn't anything wrong with the forge, nor what they did. Fwhip knew this by heart, he build the thing himself. It simply wasn't possible. But what he didn't know was that by putting the Cod/Salmon in the forge, they basically lended the council full control over it. And the council was out for blood. And they succeeded.

In fact, the council started the war in the first place. They purposely egged Fwhip on to take action. They told Jimmy lies and exaggerated everything that Fwhip did. They might've even been the ones to suggest to Fwhip to hide the codhead in the End Dimension (of course not as cod. No, they put on their salmon disguise for him).

So when the world burned, Jimmy fled. He believed he'd never be able to redeem himself to the council. But in reality, he did exactly what they wanted.

But, that's not the end of it.

See, when Sausage brought the Cod Statue from S1 to S2, something went allong with it.

And the council, having spotted the new and improved Jimmy, who now has not only gone into a villian arc but also has control over all gunpowder farms, have decided to do it again. (perhaps under a new name. "Fae".)

EPIC has a character arc dynamic I can't explain in a succinct way, but it's one of my favorites and I want more media to do it. It's like...every character is simultaneously absolutely at fault and completely innocent. like, okay.... Odysseus sacrificed his own crew BUT he wouldn't have had to do that if Eurylochus had listened to him and left the cows along BUT Eurylochus wouldn't have disobeyed him if Odysseus hadn't betrayed the crew BUT Odysseus wouldn't have betrayed the crew if Circe hadn't sent him on a crazy mission to the underworld where he realized he needed to be hashtag Ruthless BUT Circe wouldn't have sent them there if Hermes never given Odysseus the power to stop her leading to him gaining her trust BUT Hermes wouldn't have needed to do that if Odysseus had just listened to Eurylochus and ran away instead of helping their friends BUT they wouldn't have needed to abandon their friends if Eurylochus had done better at keeping them out of trouble BUT they wouldn't even be on Circe's island if Poseidon hadn't attacked them, BUT Poseidon wouldn't have attacked them if Odysseus had just killed Polyphemus BUT Polyphemus wouldn't be blind if he hadn't attacked the crew BUT he wouldn't have attacked the crew if they hadn't killed his sheep BUT the crew wouldn't even be in Polyphemus' cave if the lotus eaters hadn't sent him there BUT they wouldn't have gotten the idea to go there if Polites hadn't been so insistent on being kind and asking for help BUT can you really fault a man who just got out of a ten year war for not wanting to see anymore bloodshed? But the most interesting part about it is that I don't think there's an alternate path. In any other story, you can say "what if x just hadn't done y?" One simple mistake in any other story could turn the tide. But the thing about greek mythology is that there's a heavy belief in fate. No matter what you do, you will always end up in the same place that was written in the stars. The inbetween doesn't matter. Odysseus doesn't have some sort of lesson to learn. In fact, none of this would have happened if Polites hadn't put the idea into Ody's head that he needed to be merciful. Now, again, I am NOT blaming Polites. I could write a whole essay on how every important member of the crew seems to have a different coping mechanism for how they dealt with the horrors of war but we don't have time for that right now. The point is; this was not preventable. Odysseus' journey involves getting from Troy to Ithica. Everything else is just a pit stop as someone ELSE's journey concludes. Polites is fated to die on the journey home. Elpenor is fated to die while drunk. Eurylochus is fated to be betrayed by a close friend. I suppose that's why The Odyssey is a tragedy

I think part of it is this increasingly common phenomenon where these fans need to think project moon must completely have the same progressive political leanings as them because they enjoy consuming the works and they consider themselves progressive, therefore the reverse must be true, that the media they enjoy must also be ideologically progressive because they enjoy it. it’s why they’re so shocked when someone completely different from them in political leanings enjoys PM’s games, we saw this as well when Arknights KR engaged in feminist ideological verification. these high earning gambling games can make all the vague political statements they want but it doesn’t mean jack shit if they’re engaging in antifeminism and harming employees in reality. in the past decade (and especially 2020 until now) “fandom” and “consuming content” have evolved into integral parts of these people’s personalities (especially those who are gen Z and younger) and have significant impacts on how they interact with others and how they see themselves. they wrack their brains coming up with excuses for project moon’s antifeminist actions and this genuinely gets fanfiction tier at some point.

like look at this example from that “PM masterpost” a user here on tumblr made. this is the same one we were discussing earlier that reposted rumors slandering the youth union.

beyond the ridiculous untrue claims (this is nothing like the hays code, what PM did was not normal, Mihoyo isn’t the only company that told incels to fuck off, they also have offices in SK and had literally dealt with a bomb threat at one of their SK events, etc…u get it, I’m not going thru every word) you can see this wild conjecture regarding the actions taken by the 2 studios. To me this is an example that shows how much these people defending Project Moon warp their thinking in order to keep believing this company is “progressive”. The company Mihoyo that did not respond to incels’ increasingly ridiculous harassment, blocked their livestream chat then deleted all their misogynistic comments in the next livestream and was one of the only (if not the only) targeted companies that did not take Studio Ppuri’s work for them down - this is presented as essentially “whatever” and further downplayed by saying “I personally doubt [this] was a part of any deeply held opinion on women’s rights.” And Project Moon, the company that folded to incel demands immediately, fired a woman at their behest, sued unions and condemned them in their later statements while saying absolutely nothing about the incels that caused the incident, put memes in their gacha game from the very community these incels came from, makes sure to dutifully censor any🤏 in their gambling game, worked the Leviathan artist so hard she contemplated suicide frequently and had to get IVs? These things are presented as just inevitabilities of operating in South Korea and PM is lauded as “I can’t believe PM is fundamentally misogynistic.” The editorializing is absurd. imo there also comes a time where you compare your “poor little South Korean gacha game who just got caught in the crossfire and actually they are totally progressive and feminist 🥺” to the “Chinese company Mihoyo who does whatever to keep getting the most money and has no morals about it” that at some point starts to lean heavier on sinophobia. I’m not here to blow smoke up Mihoyo’s ass but I do think their action regarding the korean incels’ harassment was significant at a time when companies were falling over themselves to kiss incel ass. And, as has been discussed before on this blog, Project Moon’s capitulation to incels was also significant just in the opposite, misogynistic direction. idk it just gets so unbelievably frustrating to see English speaking users who believe themselves to be “progressive” or “leftist” making excuses because they want to keep playing videogames without feeling guilt meanwhile the Korean fanbase has consistently mobilized digitally and irl to spread info, protest, raise money, etc. like how are you not feeling any shame whatsoever after seeing how principled they are?

Lady is a cold-hearted scientist who would do anything in the name of science even if she has to commit horrible actions. After all, in the end, this is for the better of the world even if she has the break a few hundred eggs to get the results she wants. Who else would sacrifice the things she has to get to this point? Who would go to such extremes to the point of the only thing you have left is your work and your name? Well. Lady would even from a young age this was the case her whole life pretty much leading her to the point she is now. Her twin sister didn’t even get in the way of her goals. Being one of the first to figure out how to use science to manipulate magic due to this headset of hers

This pretty much led Lady to be ‘respected’ or feared more then anything in her workplace with the actions she has committed. Lady being responsible for hundreds of documents, subjects, and scientific discoveries to be made. While also being responsible for hundreds of families to be torn apart.. Lives to be lost… people being driven insane due to her experiments… Obviously, this has bitten Lady in the ass many MANY times. With subjects escaping and attacking her when they get the chance, but of course, they never go far and just end back in Lady’s grasp.

it's a tragically common pattern among fgo players (and i'm sure many other series too but type moon is my house) that they'll see a design that deviates from what I'll unfairly generalise here as "common anime style" and immediately dismiss it as ugly. i just mentioned oberon but limbo is another example, a lot of people hated and still hate limbo for being "ugly" and a lot of the ones who don't anymore only turned around because of their fourth ascension. they're not ugly they just have an eccentric and unconventional design, one that the artist blatantly put an incredible amount of thought and care into. i've seen people call nightingale's art ugly. I've seen people call quetzalcoatl's art ugly. it's not, it just doesn't look like fucking genshin.

it's a shame because not going for a unified artstyle like idk love live or granblue (the only two mobile games off the top of my head that were relevant at the time of initial fgo development) was a conscious decision that, when you look at things like how epic of remnant was all guest writers with minimal supervision, or just the way nasu talks about his fellow creatives in interviews, was pretty clearly because he wanted to show off all these different artists that he loves. fgo is very deliberately a collaborative effort and artist showcase and maybe this is just a hashtag artist opinion of me but i think you're missing out on a lot if you're unable to deal with a game occasionally having a character in a slightly more unusual artstyle.

i feel like it's related to the more general dissonance between what fgo and fate in general are perceived as versus what they're actually like. it's got a titty game reputation so people who came in expecting generic titty game feel betrayed when it's like. not generic. it's definitely titty though. but like you know how the impression reddit gives you of every single fgo character is some generic waifushit trope and then when you look at her actual characterisation there's literally always something interesting going on? for some reason a lot of fgo players just hate when it does something interesting.

Also lotad can also help out Bennet with his job :3 extra but I think lotad would evolve the quickest out of all of them

Polteageist: at first I added them for the vibes. But then I read their story/lore and was like “hell yeah this is definitely a Pokémon Bennet would have” so yeahg. It helps out Bennet , and also bc they trust Bennet, Bennet gets to have a nice sip of tea 😎😎 I think Bennet found them forgotten in a basement when he was little, and kept them ever since :)

Hatterene: also added her for the vibes. And kinda lore too? Bennet probably ‘rizzed her up’ with his epic cosmetology skills 😎 also he’s a very chill guy so they can chill together :) he doesn’t overwhelm her (most of the time) also she can lazer beam his ex and that’s funny to me. I think that she was a later addition to the team

Steenee: I added her bc she’s a grass Pokémon and sooo very cute :) and bc I think she and Bennet would get along. Also bc steenee helped mallow in sun and moon , I think she would be helpful for Bennet as well ^_^ also probably a later addition ? But earlier than hatterene.

Okay now technically he doesn’t have a gulpin. But I added it bc the people he works for would never allow a gulpin in their home, so Bennet just takes care of this random one that shows up near his work place. He thinks their cute :)

Alex DMs bc it was one of his favorite games from the 80's and it's a great way to Bond (and also it was his turn to pick the game for family game night).

Dot doesn't play a character directly but does play a few NPCs and helps to describe some of the scenes sorta like a co-dm (Alex talked about the whole campaign he's planned to her bc That's His Wife and so she knows too much to actually be a player).

Robbie doesn't want to at first but didn't have a choice (on the grounds of family game night). But eventually he realizes that the buffs/weaknesses/stats aren't that different from the video games he plays and he has fun!

Mo has a great time and whenever the Maltoparty spends 30 minutes trying to figure out how to escape a room she is the first to suggest to try opening the door. It works. It was not locked.

Twitch isn't particularly interested in the explanation of the game mechanics but when it comes to NPCs (improvized by Alex & Dot) she is IMMEDIATELY asking questions and getting to know them all (and gets gutted when one of them ends up betraying her and the rest of the Maltoparty. It happens five times.)

Thrash doesn't wanna do "boring number stuff" (he was also dragged into it bc it's family game night) but his interest is piqued when he hears he can do cool fighting stuff but then it dips again because "come on I have to do MATH before I get to do cool stuff?"

He does not land a single hit in combat.

Hashtag the bard gets INCREDIBLY into the acting/improv aspect of the game and without a doubt more than likely pulls out the voice she used from the "VILLAIN SCHOOL!!!" bit.

It scares Jawbreaker.

Jawbreaker is in a perpetual state of mildly-to-moderately confused about how the rules work and at one point gets a nat 20 and says "...is that good?" when everyone starts cheering. He also took the longest to pick what he wanted his character to be (there were so many good choices!).

Nightshade is delighted when they realize how much of the game is based on math and calculation, but also on fantasy lore like in their books!

They play an artificier and they may or may not have to be stopped from making the gadgets they make in the game in real life.

Bumblebee is reluctant at first but then he gets into it.

He makes The Most Epic Paladin Ever.

He gets killed in a level one fight.

They promise there'll be a point in a bit where they can find a way to bring him back or introduce his new character (he changed one letter of the name).

Until then he's stuck playing Borf the Dwarf for an hour.

Mo tries to cheer him up while he sulks.

It's a little effective.

...also the entire time GHOST agents/rogue decepticons are trying to attack the Maltos but somehow they end up failing without anybody really noticing.

Apparently Daryl and Carol in season 3 wind up accidentally sailing to Spain instead of America via London. I just feel like we could have had two seasons of Carol finding Daryl and the two of them discovering love was there between them all along as they journey home, then it would provide an epic conclusion to their story arc. Instead we have nun ship baiting, rumors of Beth being rammed in as a lost love memento mori with the nun echoing her as a copycat Beth (Emily Kinney is reputedly recording Walking Dead songs why I don't know but it is heavily causing me to side eye with scorn because Beth was a teen and we have Carol a beautiful mature woman who is his equal) , Daryl negative to Carol and now Zabel shitting where he lives. People want Caryl, AMC has been baiting us with hashtag Caryl and artistically it makes absolute sense. Instead we have middle aged white men EPs who can't accept love interests don't have to be attractive blondes of childbearing age.

I saw the post about them "accidentally" ending up in Spain and granted if the o.g. source was an extra, then they aren't a reliable narrator, but at the same time, I don't underestimate Zabel's carelessness, so let's discuss briefly (S3 is the furthest thing from my mind right now tbh). What's frustrating is that there's a perfectly logical reason for Caryl to sail south first instead of west to get home, but because he doesn't bother doing any research, Zabel chooses something convoluted and hokey that also makes Caryl look incompetent. Which, as we know, they most definitely are not.

To me, Bethyl conspiracy theories are just that, so idk if there's really anything to talk about there, but as far as AMC should be concerned, even just suggesting the idea of Daryl having romantic feelings for a teenager or a nun is not a line they want to cross. Case in point, fans calling them out on multiple platforms right now for Zabel's comments.

Daryl and Carol don't need to discover they're in love. They are in love and the EPs insisting that they can't be is a reflection of some really deep ageism like you said. A relationship with a nun Daryl barely knows makes perfect sense to them, but a gray-haired woman he's shared a deep connection with for 14 years? Well, that would make their non-existent dudebro viewers run for the hills, and they certainly can't have that. I want to talk more about the ageism and misogyny in a separate post though. The other reason for such a definitive stance is their resentment over Carol disrupting the story they were trying to tell in S1. Contrary to what they say, they did not "always" plan for her to be involved. I know some people don't want to trust me, so then trust your eyes. Go back and watch how Carol is positioned in the trailer. Pay attention to how Zabel and Nicotero talk during the SDCC panel and in their interviews. Again, some of the things they say are nonsense, but they also give themselves away quite a bit. I'm not comfortable with either of them making any decisions for Caryl's story.
