An average (?) woman, who upon inheriting her great-grandfather's house, finds an ancient-looking pocket mirror in the attic. As it turns out, the pocket mirror is a gateway between two realms.

Upon being transported into another realm, she meets Yuan Shoucheng, who has foreseen her arrival centuries ago. The pocket mirror sports few cracks now and is not usable until it is fixed.

Oz also gets a crash course into her family history - she is a direct descendant of an immortal that served the Celestial Court as a [Bloodbender]. Her ancestor escaped her clan's massacre by using the pocket mirror to escape into another realm. As it turns out, Oz may have inherited more than just the unusual eyes and hair color from her ancestor.

In this world, there is no such thing as coincidences. Every event has been foretold in the stars. Fate and destinies have a funny way to catch up to you, and for Oz, it is time to fulfill a long-forgotten promise...

Oz is available as a permanent companion upon meeting Yuan Shoucheng on the Black Wind Mountain.

After Oz joins, her personal side quest << I Take the Long Way Home >> automatically unlocks. Several other hidden quests can be unlocked after meeting certain requirements.

As you travel through the different lands, with each new chapter and optional side-quests completed, Oz stats can be upgraded, and new abilities can be unlocked. Oz acts as a support role in the Destined One's journey. Completing secret-quests and uncovering Oz's family history, it may unlock special abilities for the travel companion.

Role Being the Destined One's travel companion, Oz is in charge of documenting their journey and on gourd duty. This includes, but is not limited to:

Gourd refilling duty

Retrieving wills and yaoguai spirits

Testing brews and soaks [unlocks in upon rescuing Shen Monkey on Black Wind Mountain]

Foraging and gathering ingredients for pill making [unlocks upon meeting Xu Dog in Yellow Wind Ridge]

Gathering seeds and foraging [unlocks upon meeting Chen Loong in the New West]

Abilities

Strength (9) [ We're Getting Stronger Now ] Coming from a world where combat skills are not needed in order to survive, the Travel Companion would not last long in combat against enemies. Do not stray too far away from the Destined One. While climbing up high walls is not much of a challenge for Oz, she would not last long in a battle.

Dexterity (14) [ I'm Still On That Tightrope ] Well poised and balanced and crafty with her hands, the Travel Companion does not have much difficulty traversing through difficult terrains. Has a good aim at hitting stationary targets upon successfully sneaking up on enemies. Has a 30% chance of hitting moving targets too

Constituion (15) [ Drank My Poison All Alone ] [Bloodborne] Inherited abilities from her ancestor, the Travel Companion has immunity against most poison. Poison damage may sometimes temporary stagger her for a few seconds. Cannot get drunk from alcohol. Almost never gets sick. Injuries received heal at a much faster rate.

Intelligence (15) [ Trying to Solve the Puzzles In My Head ] Escape room and crime dinner enthusiast, Oz is able to understand new tasks and ideas quickly and is a fast learner. Fairy good at "Explain this to me like I'm five", a skill that has proven to be useful when explaining modern-world things to the Destined One. Learns from her own and other people's mistake.

Wisdom (15) [ All the Wisest Women Had to Do It This Way ] The Travel Companion is able to read people and situations well - a very useful skill when Oz is traveling with the Destined One. He may not talk, but Oz is able to determine his moods or what he wants to communicate by his body and tail language. It's the little things and hints to look out for.

Charisma (12) [ Oh, We're Invisible ] While more introverted, the Travel Companion is not a stranger to social cues and knows what to say to the right people or how to push someone's button. She stands out with her unnatural hair color, but has a knack to disappear in the background and go unnoticed.

Skill The following list are skills that Oz has from the start

Acrobatics [ Climbed Right Back Up That Cliff ] As an avid rock climber, the Travel Companion is able to scale dangerous high walls and cliffs without protective gears. By scaling up high areas and synchronizing with at focus areas, Oz is able to unlock area maps. Can be upgraded later to have higher chances of performing a perfect dodge.

Stealth [ We Snuck Into the Circus ] Light and fast on her feet despite the platform boots, the Travel Companion is able to sneak around undetected, or approach enemies from behind to lower their guard and enable the Destined One to land critical hits. Can be upgraded later to steal things from enemies or slip things into their pockets during combat.

Perception [ Had to Listen to All This Drama ] The embodiment of "I don't want to be part of this drama, I just want to know all the details", and coupled with her [Stealth] skills, the Travel Companion is a good asset in eavesdropping and listening into conversations from a good hiding spot. Sometimes lesser yaoguai may drop useful hints and information that may be helpful in completing our objective. Can be upgraded later to spot hidden spots, secret doorways or important objects that are quest relevant.

Spells Oz does not have a [Mana] bar, the spells usage are tied to her [ Health ] bar. [Health] bar can be refilled by giving her food.

Bloodbending [ Marked Me Like a Bloodstain ] An unnatural ability that laid dormant inside Oz until she started journeying with the Destined One as his Travel Companion. For more information on the ancestor's bloodbending, please refer to this post. Spell unlocks when finishing the hidden quest << Poison Blood From the Wound of the Pricked Hand >>

Can manipulate her own blood to use as weapons. Takes a % of her [Health] to turn into small sharp weapons and can throw it at enemies to take them out from the distance. The lower her [Health], the higher the corrosive nature of her blood, and can do more damage. Spell can be upgraded to turn wounded enemy's blood into weapons and use it.

Can control other living creatures blood and use them like puppets to do your bidding. Does not cost Health, however, leaves the Travel Companion vulnerable to be attacked by others. Only able to control smaller creatures at first. Can level up skills to be able to control bigger creatures.

Each time Oz bends blood that is not her own, it raises her [Bloodlust] level.

Stardust Tears [ Eyes Full of Stars ] Tears that resemble stars and stardust with incredible healing properties. It is said that drinking [Stardust Tears] can heal any illness patch up even the worst cuts and injuries in an instant. Highly sought out by immortals and yaoguai alike. Can be upgraded to being able to see through transformations.

After meeting Xu Dog, he can use [Stardust Tears] to craft elixirs for the Destined One that will boost his Health, Mana and Stamina by 25% for a long duration. The amount of elixirs he can craft depends on how many << Hidden Memories>> have been unlocked.

✦ Inventory ✦ Oz starts out with 5 inventory slots. Upon completing a special quest in the New West, the Travel Companion can obtain a special blue bag that seems to be bigger on the inside...

Moleskine Journal and Fountain Pen: Perhaps a fountain pen might not have been the best choice of writing utensil to document their travel, but for some reason it seems like the ink will not get wash away upon contact with water. Curious indeed.

Gourd: Yuan Shoucheng claims it belongs to her ancestor.

Broken Pocket Mirror: Very pretty exterior, the mirror itself is cracked and cannot be used to travel between worlds. Looking at the pocket mirror gives Oz a sense of deja-vu...

Sunglasses: The Destined One wishes he had shades like this. Perfect for traversing through the desert, or the snowy landscape.

How do the girls deal differently with anger? If it's too much, I'm mostly interested in reading your thoughts on Ami, Rei, Makoto and Minako.

I REALLY love this question! Srry it’s taken me so long to answer.

First of all I’ll say for all of them, it depends! Is it something out of their control? Cause if not, mf REI HINO does not stay mad about it, Her ass is sprinting to kick the problem’s ass in milliseconds, right along with Mako! But for simplicity sake, I’ll say the reason the girls are angry is something out of their control and they can only sit there and find way to deal with their emotions.. ok. GO!

Ami. Ami stresses, Ami stresses way more than people think she does. I genuinely see Ami being an extremely stressed person, to the point where I can easily see her being the one with the shortest life span. Stress is scientifically proven to have adverse effects on your health.

How does Ami deal with anger? In most situations I think she suffers in silence. She doesn’t ponder too much, she just tries to keep on going like nothing happened, cause the second she starts taking a moment to think about herself openly is the moment she catches herself “being selfish”. People around her don’t need to see this.

Ami is meant to be that one pleasant person you come across. The one to be always kind to you, no matter the day. A silent yet strong and resilient symbol of strength and comfort.

This is obv a very unhealthy mindset, which I can see Ami getting better at as she get older, but not all the way.

She HATES crying, she always has. The lowest moments in her life is where she just couldn’t cope with all her emotions and just broke down and cried, so she associates crying with “This moment is REALLY THAT BAD”, it’s almost a coping mechanism where she sees herself brimming with copious amounts of anger and emotion, yet she’s not crying, so it’s fine, it’ll be ok. The moments where she cried never ended up ok and still resonate with her.

I think Ami also finds small, yet meaningful ways to destress while coping with anger. Reading is a simple one, I think laying on the floor and taking a moment to decompress helps her too, perhaps while cupping her ears and just depriving herself of as many outside factors as possible. Listening to specific genres of music, going through her father’s sketches, and even sharing an intimate physical moment with a loved one. With Ami for me is a wild pendulum between “I need to feel as much as possible RIGHT NOW!” To “I don’t want to feel anything right now”.

Rei. Oh, boi.. Rei, when has Rei ever been angry? LOL Rei is pretty much always angry.. angry at what? EVERYTHING! Angry at the chickens for spreading the feed to the porch, angry at Yuichiro for using the wrong china for tea, angry at the man down the street, angry at the spicy noodles for NOT BEING ON SALE ANYMORE, angry at the nearest pole for standing in REI HINO’s way! EVERYTHING! But she’s right, why? Cause she’s Rei Hino!

On a deeper level, Rei’s anger is mostly directed at herself, it’s like a 70-30 split of Rei holding herself and the world and people around her to such high standards, it eats her alive. She is her biggest critic and that’s honestly why I see her having such a significant ego.. she kind of earns it. She’s so extremely diligent, yet when she messes up or the people around her do, it kills her cause she knows she should do better, she NEEDS to do better and the others need to do better too. Tho their names aren’t Rei Hino, so she can’t expect them to be perfect all the time. Rei Hino though, she’s fucking perfect, so she better not make ANY mistakes and shit, Rei never makes mistakes!

Also Rei lacks the most basic functions of self reflection.. or reflection in general, as well as self-awareness. She doesn’t have high standards on herself to please anyone but herself, so her emotions are more often heightened by the fact that they are not really based on “normal human decency/shame/standards”, but rather based from her own ‘flawless’ logic and standards. So, something so extremely insignificant can be the irrational thing to tip her over the edge to a breakdown.

Her biggest outside source of consistent pumping uncontrollable anger is her father. I really see them as two peas from the same pod, they are both arrogant, head asses who can’t get over themselves to meet the other person half-way. (even tho Rei is way more justified! Cause fuck him fr)

With all that rambling said, how does Rei deal with anger? If Rei is in a situation where she can’t genuinely go and solve the problem herself, I think she meditates. She spends sometimes up to double digits of hours just meditating. In a way the least Rei-like thing to do, but there’s just something so extremely comforting to Rei about it. She can finally detach all of her worries, her judgments and just exist, peacefully.

Mako. Poor baby.. she has dealt with anger issues since such a young age and her coping mechanisms aren’t great. In the best of times they result in: smashing someone’s face open, but if the problem can’t be solved that way… it gets way more complicated. Mako is a very reactive person: you hurt me, I hurt you. That’s her logic, but in a world so complicated how does such a simple creature manage.. poorly I tell you.

Mako does not like being angry, It’s almost shameful for her, especially around her loved ones. She doesn’t understand why she’s so frequently angry and it eats at her, to the point where she’s literally yelling at herself “why can’t you just be happy?!”. Concepts like trauma and mental illness are so unknown to her.. smart people stuff she’ll call it. get this girl a therapist RN!

How does Mako deal with anger? There are many moments where I see Mako being unable to control her anger. Taking it out on objects around her is out the question! She simply cannot afford it, if Mako grips that phone too hard is goodbye to having a phone period… so I see Mako reactively reaching for a cigarette instead. She’s not proud of it, but what can she do? She can get out and go for a run til her muscles ache, but that would expose her to so many outside factors that could risk heightening her anger. A cigarette always helps.. maybe 2 sometimes.

If her anger is not to that destructive level quite yet, she may reach for her mother’s cookbook and set her mind to a nice relaxing baking session or she can reach to that unfinished crocheted scarf and work on it a lil more, perhaps clean the whole living room instead! All activities that bring her comfort, but which are also ways to deal with her anger that would not put her into further trouble.

With her very unstable financial situation I actually don’t see her working out almost at all. She frequents the school’s sport clubs, but outside of that, she can’t just go throw weights around any time she wants. She has school, sailor business, work.. she has no time. Though this is something I see her start doing as she gets older and possible gets engaged into a better financial situation. Outside of physically fighting someone, I don’t see her wanting to let her anger manifest into physical actions (later she’ll learn that’s actually rlly healthy along with speaking about it, but this Mako has never heard of therapy of self-help.. she can barely afford a doctor, let alone a therapist that can tell her how to deal with pain).

Mina! Man.. Mina’s kinda tough. She’s really hard to read and is excellent at masking her emotions. Doesn’t matter how angry she is, if she doesn’t want you to realize she’s angry, you have a very very very low chance of figuring that out and even a lower chance of getting any readable confirmation of your theory.

Much like Rei, Mina is also very self-critical, but not to Rei’s unreasonable extents. Mina is, because she needs to, she’s the leader, the level headed one, controlling her emotions is not a choice, it’s a necessity. Along with that I see her being way angrier at the world around her than any other of the inners, but she’s not hypocritical about it.. she realizes she’s part of the problem. People are so fucking selfish, it’s disgusting, and yet.. she knows she’s not so different.

So how does Mina deal with anger? Ironically enough, I see Mina being the one throwing weights around. Mina LOVES working out, physical activity is her n1 stress reliever. She’s not very picky either, she most often makes do with anything she has at hand, including environments and all types of different circumstances to adapt to the most reasonable and appropriate workout at the time.

Other than that, I can easily see her openly venting to those around her. If it’s something she doesn’t care about you knowing she’s angry about, then you’ll def hear about it, willing or not! That’s the more “friend” part of Mina coming out, and less of her disciplined persona as “the leader”. Different circumstances lead to different ways of coping. There’s a lot that Mina needs to filter between “we’re friends” and “I’m your leader”, and that complex inter-dynamic of her character is one of my favorite aspects of her.

And speaking of public coping method for anger management.. Mina’s kind of a dick too, depending on the day, she’ll go openly be an ass to someone on the street to destress, or encourage Rei in similar behavior. Entertainment is a kind of minor, yet significant way Mina uses to keep her emotions at bay, a form of temporary distraction, and hey.. Mina is pretty shameless after all. She doesn’t care. Also I can see other types of ‘activities’ that are def a personal fav method of coping for Mina as well *ahem*.

But, someone (specifically @androgynous-sack-of-flesh-3 ) talked about how she just genuinely doesn't think about it because it's not really brought to her attention that it matters, she's busy with being a terror on society basically

Which, made me think. Both of my parents are greygender. Both of them. Both of my parents were also indoctrinated into a christian cult, into which I was born and lived in for over a decade.

So, here's my first official queer Grace headcannon. Grace is greygender. She doesn't understand gender stuff, and just follows her agab because that's how she was raised, that's how she was directed by God.

So part of the issue I'm running into with The Godslayer Project is that it is a post-canon story, and therefore wholly original. It takes place a year after Daughter of Disgrace, but most of the characters this time are OCs.

Save for the canonical plot thread that inspired this entire story, I'm essentially expanding the world of JJK, including introducing a sinister new villain I'm excited to unveil. I think my two or three readers will love them, actually. I think this is the longest I've spent on an outline for any story I've written, including my first novel [I don't even think I outlined that really god...but I was 17 it's whatever].

I even have a section specifically highlighting the major conflicts in the story and how to puzzle it all out. I've been inspired by a lot of other talented writers in the JJK fandom [see my fic rec tag] with regards to building tension [both sexual and non-sexual]. So in a way this fic is me sort of testing some new writing abilities, trying some new things, etc.

Uuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh *awkwardly stares at my little OC closet*

Okay so two things about me: 1. I am not typically an OC maker, and 2. I thrive better on bouncing ideas off of other things instead of trying to create characters from scratch. Both of these mean that I don't make OCs particularly often, and the ones I do make mostly end up being antagonists or villains (as I find it easier to make a foil to a protagonist than a protagonist that everything will be bouncing off of). Soooooooo with that preface, allow me to show you my tiny, tiny, tiny collection of TS OCs ^^

The first one is a guy who was made for a concept where the girls go to China for a student exchange and have to deal with China's.... cutthroat education system, to say the least. This character was cooked up by me and my friend @starlight-4eva, and the name he's most known by is "Yi", or "one" in Mandarin. (He does have a proper Chinese name, that being Wáng Wěilóng (王伟龍))

Now, Yi is essentially a product of the aspect of the Chinese education system where everyone is publicly ranked so there is a motive to excel (but also to be super-toxic to those in lower ranks). He is extremely cocky, arrogant, and unfortunately very intelligent. He was in the same school as Violet in China, and he competed extremely fiercely with her for the position of top-ranked student in their class (if this sounds like two kids fighting over a video game leaderboard yeah it is, just imagine it in a school setting and the score is their grades). The rivalry is very one-sided but also not really kinda, since Yi is actively trying to mess with her in their competing, while Violet is mostly just trying to survive in school (and by that I mean bringing her A-game to everything). No cheating in exams though-- Yi is way too good for that! Besides, why cheat when you have psychological warfare?

For the longest time, Violet dominated her class's leaderboard with Yi hot on her heels, but the entire time, Yi wasn't bitter. Named "Er" at the time, he knew that all it took for him to take the top spot was a single screw-up. A single mistake. A single millisecond where Violet let her guard down. And it happened.

Violet fell from first rank to second, and he, now taking the rank "Yi", was ruthless in letting her know all about it, giving her the name "Er", which in Chinese means "two", but also has connotations of inadequacy, worthlessness, and lack of intelligence. He never failed to gloat about it, and as a rattled Violet attempted to regain her top rank, Yi was more than happy to watch "Er" struggle and fail, all while holding an iron grip over his new title.

Violet was able to recover from her fall, but she was never able to regain her top rank. Even in her gaokao, the infamous college eligibility exam, she missed the chance to overtake Yi by 0.1% in score. 0.1% too short.

Mouseford was a good place to heal and open herself up to new people with different ideologies, but in this student exchange, some old wounds burst back open as she finds to her horror that she is not only having the exchange in the same school Yi is studying in for university, not only is she in the exact same class as Yi, but Yi is just as arrogant and smug as ever. He is a walking, talking red flag (a male green tea bitch, if you will), and he does everything he does to make Violet as uncomfortable as possible (down to mild sexual harassment. Nothing too crazy, just him being an unfortunately smartass delinquent who constantly says he and Vi are "tied together by Yue Lao's Red Thread of Fate and flirts with her, knowing full well how uncomfortable Violet is with it. Hey, anything to throw her off her game even by just 0.05% of her 100%. A small number like that is enormous in an exam that's worth 33% of their entire grade in a single subject, right?).

(Here's some old doodles I did of him and Violet in 2021, something something I headcanon that Violet is Year of the Steel Dragon while Yi is Year of the Steel Serpent, something something Chinese dragons are unable to fly when injured on the crest of their head according to some site I don't remember rn, something something allegory to how Chinese communities is basically like playing socially political 3D chess constantly)

The second one is a bit weird, but you're gonna have to hear me out on this one. If you've seen him in my Artfight, then yes, he technically originated from a Thea Sisters fic concept.

Du Yaoguai/DYG is a snake demon (Chinese demon, not Western), and while his Artfight profile says all, I do have to give a little bit of extra context.

He was supposed to be an antagonist in a fic scenario where the girls, in a Seven Roses Unit thing, crash-land into a fantasy world based on mythical China, and because it's not supposed to be kid-friendly and because the Heavenly Court put a "VIP pass, no VIP no entry" sign in front of the world's barrier, outsiders are to either be killed or kicked out as soon as possible, whichever happens first. DYG, being a human-eating snake demon monster, has his eyes on the girls and would like to have them for dinner, and he's willing to use every trick in the book to get them to fall into his trap. Mansplain, manipulate, manwhore, if you simp I'm not stopping you, but my Artfight rules do apply to him even outside of Artfight

i think what rubs me the saddest way about the 'pen ghosts colin and makes him grovel for her forgiveness' narrative playing out on screen is that it would just be heartbreaking from Colin's perspective in such a pointed way, but i don't know if it could conclude with any real satisfaction when he's a fleshed out character

i look at colin and i see a lost, lonely person who is trying so hard to fit in and be loved and understand himself, trying to learn and come into his own, never really clicking with much of anyone in a meaningful way, not completely. how so much of charm is people pleasing, wanting to be wanted. how he told Pen that he was starting to really believe that she 'would never forsake' him, how he praised and admired her loyalty, her friendship, how he started to really open up to her. how he told her she inspired him. how grateful he was that she tried to keep him from heartache. how she was one of the few people who didn't talk down to him about discussing his travels, who would listen to him like he listened to her.

and how she will forsake him in that narrative, for one comment, for one action in all the entirety of their friendship. how she will show him, truly solidify, that what he thinks of himself when he's feeling particularly low, that he's empty inside, not worth taking seriously, just a charming mask of a person, that he's not even worth keeping around if he isn't always being as perfect as he can be, is true.

i think this narrative could absolutely be done well! or it could be light if it's played for the bit without delving into colin's character and really only focusing on penelope's. but i want to delve into his character. i crave his perspective, want to know more that shaped him into being who he is. and exploring that, looking into it, the more it feels like that narrative couldn't be played for laughs. it could be gut wrenching, poignant. but it would take time, would have to unfurl. because when someone does that to you, when they decide you aren't worth the effort, the time (for a returned letter, for an explanation or any familiarity, stripped even of a nickname) it's so hard to heal it all. even more so when you were so close.

how he'd always worry about saying anything wrong to her from then. how he'd always have it in the back of his head: is this the one she leaves me for? again? because what if she decides he isn't worth it? she decided once, why not a second time? and, worse: what if she's right to? what if he really never had anything of substance worth holding onto in the first place?

any narrative can be a good narrative, a satisfying romance, if it's written well, if it explores and deepens a character, a connection, if it opens a new facet or shines light onto old ones so they reflect new colors. but i want to know Colin, in it. i don't want it just to serve half a ship's story. i want him to have a perspective, to have a background.

no matter what direction it all goes, what's gonna be done, it should be done in a way that serves the betterment of both their stories
