#help a theater kid out

Attention, Theater Kids of Tumblr!

I am an amateur theater kid looking to cement myself in the culture before I graduate high school. I have participated briefly in theater due to a lack of opportunity, so I need your help. Basically, I need a starter pack. I've already seen Be More Chill, Heathers, Hamilton, and The Greatest Showman, and I plan to see Beetlejuice eventually, but I would like more recommendations (Dear Evan Hansen and Wicked sprung to mind as I wrote this). I would also like to know any superstitions I may be missing. Everyone knows the break-a-leg thing, and I know that, for some reason, we're not allowed to mention McB- *ahem* -the Play That Shall Not Be Named (though I don't know why). If there are any others I'm missing, let me know. That's pretty much it.

ok so.. it might’ve been like 3 months, I am sincerely sorry. I should’ve never taken AP classes, my fault 🤧

-we’ve had a few ideas (atleast of what I’ve seen) of what NY would be, as NJ is a devil, but I’ve whole-heartedly taken in the idea of him being some sort of angel creature. like one with a lot of eyes. (hc for this idea: when he gets embarresed, more eyes appear on his face)

-this was from a real life inside joke, but I think it would be an on going joke in the NE to just say things like “New Jersey is New York of the stupid variety” or “Rhode Island is Massachusetts of the even smaller variety” (does this make sense 😭) also it has to end with variety, no synonyms

-York loves to kick geese (of the Canadian variety)

-I also believe New York has a small speech impediment but since he is usually silent nobody even knows (and he’ll keep it that way.)

-this isn’t a specific HC, but I believe the states could die, but they are forced to return after a specific amount of time. I could either see them like completely unconscious or being stuck in this weird room for like weeks. The length of the death depends on what happened to them. (maybe there’s another other-worldly being in there… maybe it’s a country..)

-Florida truly believes hurricanes are sent by the blue states to destroy red states. no one can tell if he’s joking or not, but they all hope he is. (especially because he has been experiencing hurricanes even before the US existed)

Massachusetts— overall instigator

New York— “ladies, ladies, please” (usually ends up as the one who is the most injured)

I need advice... again. this time it's a theater thing for all my musical theater performers out there who wanna help a girl out 😔🙏

🔮 I'm having an internal crisis.

So i've been into musicals for FOREVER and I love singing songs at karaoke and getting into character and stuff whatever THE POINT IS recently i've been considering actually trying out for a musical?? the last time i didn't theater was elementary school if that counts and i've never been apart of a choir so no i can't read sheet music or know what it means sos the closest i've gotten is orchestra. I'm just nervous because i've never done THEATER before and i would have no idea how to prepare and i feel like id make myself look stupid at any auditions if i did; now im here on tumblr again asking for advice!!

i don't think i'm a BAD singer but i'm not anything out of this world, i think i'm anywhere from an alto to a mezzo-soprano?? (my most comfortable songs to sing are JD's songs from heathers or ngrom from waitress, i can also sing from like deja vu to 505 if that helps to any music nerds anywhere! thanks) anyway i don't even know my voice range and whether im a good singer; also i think that 99% of the time im singing with my head voice and idk how to belt or sing with chest voice so if anyone has any vocal advice on how to sing better and warmup my voice for stuff like this it'd be greatly appreciated i'm literally clueless when it comes to singing so if you think any piece of advice is stupid and common knowledge it's probably not for me and i'll gladly take it

one I found a new verison of Sweeney Todd I love way more then the movie verison (the singing voices fill me with huge amounts of serotonin-)

two I now headcanon azure would be a huge fan of the Sweeney Todd musical

yesterday at 29.5 years old I watched as many videos as I could find from my high school marching band, choir, and theater run crew days and realized I barely have any memories of my junior year of high school (13-14 years ago btw) other than feeling bad™️

the rational part of my mind: see the thing about ieytd roleplays is that actually building a community would be a very difficult affair. it would be very hard to establish continuity, and most levels of the game don't really ever feature any more than you and your handler, which doesn't leave much room for other people to be included, and it's a complete and utter toss up who at any given time controls the set dressing or triggers important events. also since the game is mostly revolved around puzzles being able to actually get established scenes that all parties can participate in in equal measure would be a challenge. also you've only watched one james bond movie, and outside of the netflix reboot of carmen sandiego you haven't actually consumed a lot of spy adjacent medias, so you don't really know the tropes- good or bad- to use or avoid in your portrayal of pretty much any of the characters. also you haven't roleplayed in months.
