Anita Sarkeesian did her Master's Thesis in Social and Political Thought in 2010 on the trope of the "Strong Woman" in fantasy and science fiction TV shows, and produced Tropes vs Women, a series of online videos breaking down her work in a way that was accessible to a lay audience. She found a ready audience in geek feminist circles, since this was exactly the kind of thing we wanted and needed right then.

Tropes vs Women was extremely bog-standard cultural critique, what you'd find expressed in discussion between scholars of literary theory or media analysis anywhere, and exactly what 99% of feminists were saying at the time. It certainly talked about patriarchy as the complex system of sexism fused into our cultural matrix, so it's not like it wasn't radical feminism from that viewpoint, but it wasn't "radical" by way of being especially militant. Sarkeesian frequently pointed out how individual occurrences of a trope weren't harmful in themselves, but that a media landscape completely saturated with only that trope and nothing but that trope is, in the aggregate, a big feminist issue.

Like, geek feminists got flak a lot anyway, especially when we wanted things like properly enforced policies against sexual harassment at science fiction conventions. And yeah, there totally were toxic keyboard warriors who said stuff about all men being scum - but Sarkeesian wasn't one of them.

It's probably because of her succinct, matter-of-fact, "this is not a debated issue, feminists have decades of theory and research to back this point up, sources abound if you google for thirty seconds so I won't stop to baby you through all the fundamental concepts" approach that she got such a big reach. She was calm, concise, coherent, and rational, everything feminists are told we need to be.

Unfortunately that just made her seem... attackable, I think. A good target, not actually scary or impassioned, unlikely to respond to violence with violence. The perfect kind of person to play five seconds of, and then spend the next five minutes yelling into your mic because IF ANITA IS RIGHT ABOUT VIDEO GAME SEXIST YOU MIGHT AS WELL SAY THAT EVERYTHING IS SEXIST AND SEXISM IS SYSTEMIC AND ENDEMIC TO ALL OF WESTERN CULTURE AND OTHER CULTURES TOO, WHICH IS CLEARLY RIDICULOUS, ANITA LADY BAD.

She literally spent five solid years as Enemy #1 in online geek spaces. It was completely insane. I am so sorry she had to take the brunt of it, and yet grateful that she did. She held the line and took the shit and kept doing good decent feminist work for years after, though she did admit to burnout and closed up shop on her nonprofit org Feminist Frequency in 2023. I hope to hell she's having a good day.

But even now, more than a decade later, dudes talk about her as though she were Geek Feminist Godzilla, the biggest baddest woman in the universe, off to lay waste to downtown Video Games and cut everybody's balls off.

When people (mostly dudes, but not all) talk like this, it's just very funny and unintentionally revealing because of the absolute averageness of her third-wave, trans-inclusive, western-centric, intersectional feminism. It makes them look absolutely pathetic.

Because it just makes it clear that she is probably the first and last self-described feminist the speaker has ever paid attention to.

Little tid bits about the Modern Epic PJO Au

• Luke is only "big brother" to half the camp, he is the other half's DAD in all but blood. Yeah, he has been parentified to hell and back.

• No one outside of Hermes Cabin carries cash on them at camp. Because it will be stolen

• Luke and Chris see "your money" as "our money". They see any thief off cash as borrowing—they'll pay you back by the end of the week

• Travis and Connor see "your money" as "my money". You will never see that cash again

• M.E Hermes is basically the unclaimed's foster father and he takes that role very seriously. He glares hard at anyone who's left their child with him longer than a month. And if you don't get that kid by the end of the sixth one it's his and you aren't getting it back.

• On that note, when Percy made the other gods start claiming their kids M.E Hermes nearly killed a couple of them—as stated above, anyone who stays in that cabin longer than six months is HIS. At that point "your child" is either "our child" or "his child". (God of thieves indeed, out here stealing custody)

• Annabeth and Malcolm have a giant flemish rabbit—M.E Athena didn't understand that the Easter bunny is a mascot the first year they celebrated and yeah, the Athena Cabin has a rabbit now—name suggestions would be appreciated. (Hermes hasn't let Athena live that mistake down)

• Any message (say a happy birthday, a card, money, gift, etc.) from a god to their claimed child has to go through M.E Athena because M.E Hermes refuses to send them. His visitation is already shaky and he's just not willing to risk when he's got his own children to think about.

• Whenever the Ares Cabin wins capture the flag M.E Ares sends enough money for his kids to go out to eat and/or to the arcade.

• When the gods were given the go ahead to see their kids M.E Ares kicked the cabin door down and rounded his kids up to go make up for loss time. He also got Clarisse a motorcycle.

• Clarisse has a greek warrior teddy bear that M.E Ares got for her when she was eight. The bear's name is Madea (after the witch) and Clarisse will kill you if you touch her.

• When Luke starts college Chris takes over as the camp's "contraband kid", the torch will then be passed to Travis, who will then pass it to Connor.

the chain goes to gerudo town and they stop at the kara kara bazaar where wild explains that they need vai outfits since they don't let men in (or if TOTK has happened, he can't let men in with him, even if he has clearance) and the group has varying reactions, from sure whatever (legend, hyrule, twilight, time), HELL YEAH/sure, that sounds kinda fun (sky, wind, four,) and the captain just stares at the outfit for a second an quietly nods. in fact, he's weirdly quiet the whole visit to the female city. Time seems in tune with whatever is going on with captain, and gives a tiny "don't" sort of gesture at one point when twilight tries to talk to the captain.

Legend, who wears skirts all the time, who's worn dresses and cheerleader outfits and you name it, gets worried for a different reason. while most of his hyrule either wasn't there or didn't care, he's run into quite a few people (creatures? beings?) who don't hold the same values, and legend thinks the captain has finally snapped and has secretly been a raging homophobe the whole time. (no, legend does not have trust issues wdym)

legend takes warriors out on a "night patrol" after seeing him pace and fidget and pick at the outfit for the 16th million time. they walk pretty far out, far enough that the lights of the city no longer dim the sparkling night sky. legend stops dead in his tracks and turns to warriors like: "dude if you're really gonna be a hateful piece of dookie then i will make your life miserable again because i will not let you hurt my brothers like that" and warriors, who's dealing with awful dysphoria rn, whos super uncomfortable because people kept staring at his burn scars, who hates the hot sun and the itchy desert and is super overstimulated just breaks down bc he thinks he's been betrayed by another brother.

Legend is very surprised bc he was expecting to fistfight a bigot not consoling his brother who has planted himself down against a rock and his melting down in front of his eyes. warriors awkwardly explains whats really going on, and legend feels supers guilty and embarrassed for thinking so poorly of his brother. blah blah feels, cheesy stuff, they talk, then they start making there way back to the inn, after a promise from legend to keep quiet. to make it up to him, the next day legend decides to go drinking with wars since time and twi are needed for something else (up to reader what that thing is) yada yada hurt/comfort, the end

(Bonus: warriors helps legend pick out skirts and dresses because he has a much better eye for fashion -though legend would never admit it- and knows how the sizing works and what pieces go where, and they bond over the lack of pockets)

I'm scared that I'm going down some weird ass classism alt right pipeline.

I'm queer and trans myself, I've always been what ppl mockingly call a "social justice warrior" and I've always stood up against racism, classism and homo-and transphobia of any kind as much as I could

The problem is, that I'm currently being bullied and I have been for the last five, six ish years.

My bullies come from low income immigrant families, and I know rationally that the way they were raised contributes very greatly to why they're like this now why they bully me

I also know that they are also just reacting, to their own jealousy towards me... But lately, every time I'm angry at them, when I've had a particularly bad day, when they've been proper bitches again, smth inside of me thinks "Oh but it's okay because they're never gonna make it anywhere in life cus they're poor" or "Oh but they're less than me anyway, that's just how it is." or "they deserve that their families suck, because they hurt me so much" (there's more examples of it tho)

And i rationally know that all of that is my own trauma talking, that this is a somewhat natural reaction to someone pushing me down like that, is to push back, no matter how bad it may seem, because to a point they've destroyed my self confidence (or tried to) and this is a way for that to recover. It's not a good one, ik that

Anyways, my point is I'm scared. I'm scared that one day I'm gonna hurt someone who hasn't done anything wrong to me, just because they're similar to my bullies, or jus because it triggers that same reaction in me. I'm scared because ik of myself that I'm a rational person and know that these prejudices are not real or true. But the thought of saying these things and yelling at people for it is still there, when I get angry.

I wanna try going to therapy this year, but I'm not sure if this is something I can explain without sounding insane

Any advice would be rlly appreciated, I just don't know what to do about this, like at all, and you're the only person I can think of who I can trust with this

I think this is honestly a really complicated situation, for all the reasons you listed. But the important thing is, you're constantly questioning your biases and prejudices, which is really important.

I think all people with privilege (it sounds like you have class privilege) have biases, right? And because you're being bullied, it makes it even more complicated. But it's our job to question them and you're doing that. Honestly, you can't be expected to treat your actual bullies with a hundred percent graciousness...that's not human. but if you find you're treating OTHER people in ways that are bigoted, that's a red flag and you might need to take some time to think about your actions.

I think therapy is a really good idea, regardless. Like everyone should be in therapy, but especially people who have been/are being bullied.

I also am wondering what the hell the school is doing about this? Because yeah, bullying happens for a reason, people have their own issues, blah blah blah, but you still should NOT have to deal with it. You don't deserve it. Does the school know? Are they being helpful at all?

Okay so it's prly way too soon to be thinking about who the companions of the next Dragon Age would be (if we get another one, of course), but I would like to make a case for a few characters who could appear as companions.

Elek Tavor - I'm trying to think of characters who would be alive at the end of Veilguard and from what I can tell, Elek would still be alive either way. I think he'd make for an interesting companion, especially as he has connections with the shady criminal underworld of Dock Town. He also has connections to the Veilguard via Neve Gallus, especially if you choose for her to be protector of Dock Town and therefore the new leader of the Threads. It would provide opportunity for Neve to make an appearance as a contact ir advisor for the new protag if she's still alive at the end of the game, and the banter between her and Elek would be fun.

Tarquin - Undecided on whether he and Elek would both be companions or whether I would pick one over the other (guys you know I would pick Tarquin in a heartbeat, he's got my heart in a chokehold). Tarquin I think would be a great way to explore the trans male experience like we had with Krem in Inquisition, and he also has great potential for a personal quest where he finally finds the courage to leave the Templars and do what makes him happy instead of being stuck in a job he hates for the sake of survival. He's also another character who has connections to Neve, so there's opportunity there too for a Neve cameo. Also potential for a Viper cameo, depending on if he survives Veilguard or not. With Tarquin being a templar as well, it could be a cool way to bring back the templar specialisation from Inquisition.

Qwydion - Give us a qunari companion who isn't a warrior Bioware you cowards!!! I was disappointed when she didn't appear or even get a mention in Veilguard. Like what was the point of Absolution if literally none of it had anything to do with Veilguard whatsoever? Bringing her in as a companion I think would be a great idea, not only because it would help to make Absolution feel more relevant to the games but because I think we're sorely lacking in important qunari characters who aren't warriors. That element of coming to terms with your magic and seeing what happens to qunari mages under the Qun (are they called Saarebas? Or is that a different word?) would be an interesting way to further explore qunari culture from a different, magic focused perspective.

A spirit or abomination - This character isn't fully thought out. Hell, this character is just a concept of a concept at this point. But I kinda like that we have this pattern of having a spirit or abomination as a companion in the games. I'm not sure what kind of spirit I'd have as the companion, however. A spirit of adventure, maybe? A wisp of curiosity that's possessed a body, similar to Manfred? If Manfred himself is the companion, that's even better.

This is all I got right now. But yeah, I'd like to see these guys in the next game if they do decide to make a fifth one

Day 1: Heterochromia I’ve come to the revaluation that my sona is already cringe as hell considering not only can his entire body change color but he also has differently colored eyes as a staple of his design. They’re usually yellow and blue but this time I color picked the blue from the trans flag and the mint from the Vincian flag for this color palette, it turned out really pretty :)

Day 2: Self Insert Now she isn’t my self insert anymore, but back in the day when I was at “peak cringe” she definitely was. This is my warriors OC Icypelt and I have a post going over part of her story on my profile somewhere. She’s been through a lot and I think her modern design is very pretty :)

Day 3: Unnecessarily complex fit/design Spider scene is kinda infamous in my brain for having wayyy too much detail but I love them and I think this might be my favorite one out of this batch, super cute, the pose is really cute and the colors are nice and fits her really well :D

"They were," Alisaie acknowledged, then took a deep breath. "But this new Raha..." Her voice trailed off, and she shook her head, obviously unsure how to finish the sentence.

"He's like a fusion," I offered. "With the best qualities of both of the previous versions."

"Yes!" Alisaie's eyes flashed with relief as she looked up to meet my gaze. "He's... he's experienced. Confident. Not so desperately, irritatingly eager to prove himself, because he's already done it! And being able to set down the Exarch's mantle has made him so much more open and... trusting. He believes in everyone, and trusts people to do what they're good at." She sighed and scrubbed a hand over her face. "Hells, I don't think I'm doing a good job of explaining it."

"Believe me, I get it," I said, putting my hand over one of hers. "The new G'raha is walking competence porn."

Completely caught off guard, Alisaie burst out into loud peals of cackling laughter. Finally, she was able to wrestle back some control and gave me a conspiratorial grin as she wiped her eyes. "So what would you think of maybe making our V into a triangle?"

I grinned. "It would make my life a lot easier, honestly. It's been a bit awkward trying to juggle separate one-on-one time with everything that's been going on." I paused and leaned forward as I lowered my voice. "And assuming he's on board with it, I'd love to see that pretty cock of yours in his mouth while I fuck him."

Alisaie actually blushed. "So how should I... you know. Talk to him?"

"Wow," I drawled, grinning teasingly. "Look at you not marching up to him and flat out demanding to get your mouth on his junk. You must have it really bad."

"Shut up, you," she growled, turning an even brighter shade of red.

I widened my eyes innocently. "I thought you were looking for advice?"

There was a loud thunk as Alisaie banged her forehead on the table. "I hate you. I hate you so much."

"Too bad. Guess I'll just keep him to myself then."

Alisaie lifted her head and glared at me in a way that promised I would absolutely pay for this later. "Fine. Please. Give me some advice."

I smirked. "Offer to help him do research."

It was a struggle not to laugh at the dismay on her face. "I hate research."

"So do I. And yet, my advice stands."

Alisaie scowled at me suspiciously.

"You'll get to impress him with how many books you can carry," I teased.

"You're holding out on me," Alisaie hissed, poking me hard in the shoulder. "What aren't you telling me?"

I leaned forward and held her gaze as I dropped my voice to a whisper. "He always gets horny when he's really onto some hot bit of research, and he claims that getting fucked helps him put the pieces together faster."

Alisaie's face lit up like a Starlight Tree. "Really," she breathed.

"Oh yeah," I whispered back. "It sounds wild, but several times now I've fucked him over his desk, and then he's filled an entire blackboard with notes. Clearly something about it works for him. So I help fetch and carry the books he needs, which saves him time, and I bring something to work on when he doesn't need me. After a few hours, he starts babbling about something it would take three Doctorates to follow, and that's usually about when he starts begging me to fuck him."

Alisaie's was practically salivating by the time I finished. "How do I get myself invited to one of these sessions?" she asked, enthralled.

7,000 Followers Milestone

Hello everyone! We’ve hit another milestone, and I’m here to celebrate. :D

I’ll be honest - I have nada in the way of plans or funny ideas for this one. The terf-begone post SHOT me past 7,000 way before I’d expected it to happen (which, hell yeah, trans rights!) so I didn’t have anything sophisticated, like a song cover or an image selection, to commemorate.

I know I'm EXTREMELY late but I have my reasons -cough- fuck you Netflix from a Warrior Nun fan -cough- for holding back on too much of Netflx; I'm mostly binging from time to time and Arcane is coming soooooo yeah, binge time. Anyway just went through Alice in Borderland s1-2 and got some thoughts which include obviously spoilers below:

I know that it comes with an asterisk (namely the actress playing her isn't trans) but love that one of my favs is also a trans characters, just cause LGBT+ YES! She's so badass

Also I ship them so much and all it took was like 2-3 episodes cause chemistry and care they show towards each other; like I would NOT have thought I'd be shipping them at first (then again I didn't expect Ann or Mira to go the routes they went) xD Was so happy to see that her come back in the real world, cause ngl I'd have been really damn pissed off if Ann stayed dead but fucking Niragi lived. Kuina/Ann all the way.

Y'know at first I wasn't a huge fan cause "hot badass girl" x loner nerd (I guess in this case gamer) guy as a means of the writer making up for irl is eye-rolling; but this case actually earned my loving them. I'm not anyone's babysitter.

I've already mentioned in a reblog or two that I do not approve of her RPFing, and to tone down the language when talking about Wenclair. I don't like it when she goes and uses negative judgemental language like "disgusting" when it comes to the ship itself.

What is disgusting is the insane objectification and projection going on with the Wenclairs. It's a behavioral issue, not an inherent "this ship is {insert whatever negativity you've seen/heard}".

Whenever someone says that the ship itself is disgusting, I have said that it isn't. LGBTQIA+ ships aren't disgusting. If I thought they were disgusting I would not write the Nightshade ladies in as I have (Tanaclay, Yokovina). Or write Moira!Chancellor/Larissa Weems (I started the 🔥, almost trans-centric post-Walker Wake deleted scene, it's in my files along with an unfinished Pink Bubblegum (Donovan/Wednesday/Enid) AU fuckfest...I haven't finished either because I'm just too busy with 8, Miller's Girl Universe stuff, and other non-fandom writings). Even ABW getting railed by Donovan while at the same time psychically experiencing a male orgasm counts as queer.

But I digress.

Again, I'm not her babysitter, and no one has any obligation to listen to someone you are just acquaintances with (I would only call people whose faces I've seen in long chats over multiple weeks/months "close"), but it would be nice if those who weren't Wenclair would be reasonable and not behave like a fucking homophobe who hates the ship "because they're gay", just as the more psychotic Wenclair people should back the fuck off when it comes to Ortega herself and her friends and co-workers. Bitches are already complaining about "the age gap" between her and Glen Powell under this post:

ETA: While editing this post, I glimpsed at one of her later posts and comments. Does this work for you? FTR I didn't do it for anyone, I did this because it pissed me off when I read it.

Also FTR, I supported Trio Sandwich (Harry/Hermione/Ron), Drarry, Dramione, Snamione, Wolfstar, Gin & Tonic, Lucmione, and Weasleycest. My ex wrote a gnarly McGonagall/Lucius short before. Neither of us cared WTF was written, so long as it was written well. I wrote the first shorts/drabbles for certain rare pairs that no one would touch. We all wrote something like that because there was no lacking in creativity with the Potter people.

Jesus, I never thought I would ever say this — given how shitty JKR is — but I miss when that fandom was a big fucking family where we had our Weird Uncle Johns/Aunt Janies (like me...people from Pornish Pixies and Parry Hotter on LiveJournal) but we still understood that fiction is fiction and that we all loved the same canon. That all went to fucking Hell once this place became popular for fandoms and people started behaving like the goddamn Warriors for Innocence.
